Is is possible to pay for part (or even all) of your purchase of DVC with a credit card? If so, which cards do they accept?

We put a portion of our down payment on a Mastercard. I would think that you could put the entire sum on a card if you wanted to. As for which specific cards they take, the only one i know for sure is Mastercard, but i suspect they would take others as well.

Ironically, the one they DON'T take, is American Express...."the Official Card of WDW".

Unless policy has changed in the past few months, you CAN put your deposit on AmEx. We did this when purchasing 50 additional points last November with no problem.

Yes you can. I put my whole original purchase on a Visa in '94, and they divided it into 2 months for me. I did it for the frequent flyer miles which I used for a trip to France - and even used DVC points when we got there to stay at DL Paris a few days. If you plan on paying the total up front, then it's a great way to earn benefits offered with many of the credit cards.

If you put in on your Credit Card more likely then not you will be paying a higher interest rate then financing through Disney. Also, if you finance through Disney, all of your interest on the loan is Tax deductible. If you put it on a Credit Card you can't deduct the interest.

I have heard that a lot of people are using their credit cards for airmiles. If I can ask this, could I get any recommendations for a card that gives airmiles and not a real high annual fee. Do they exist? I have US air but I don't think they fly direct from midwest. Any help on this would be appreciated!!!

Going to put the amount we have saved for a down payment on a credit card with reward points, and finance the rest with Disney. Thanks.

Very smart. We did just the same thing purchasing VWL. We put half on credit cards and financed the other half for one year, taking advantage of Disney's lowest finance rate. We made sure to pay off the credit card in full when we got back home. We got the best of both worlds! :)

I put together my own financing (mostly 401K loan), but ran it through my AOL Visa and got 6 1/2 months free AOL. DVC split it into 2 months so that I would not exceed my credit limit. There is no fee on this card and I paid it off from my financing money when the bill came, so there was no interest involved. My guide (Bruce Ladd)gave me the idea.

We did the whole thing on our AM EX card, and apid off the AM EX when we got our bill, and almost enough miles for a ticket.

We also used Amex. We used it for our first purchase for the down payment, and then again in December for the whole thing when we added on. It was great for the miles. As to the question of a low fee card that accrues miles, I am not sure. Amex is $50 per year for the first card, which we use. I am sure there is probably something cheaper, but we have always felt Amex was worth it.

We got the Delta Skymiles American Express Gold card in November. It has an $85 annual fee, but you get 10,000 miles after your first purchase, then if you charge $10,000 in your first 6 months, you get another 10,000 miles. Since November, we have accumulated over 53,000 miles. We are getting 2 free tickets for our trip to WDW in Nov. and we're getting close to another free ticket. That makes it worth the $85 annual fee for us. Also, we get double mileage for purchases at grocery stores, gas stations, post office, drug stores, home improvement stores, and Delta airlines.

I have Citibank AAdvantage Mastercard. They are out of Sioux Falls South Dakota. Citibank has a website and so does American Airlines: Http://www.aa.com. I put my entire DVC purchase on my card and then paid some college tuition on it and got enough miles for an airline ticket. As you are probably aware it takes $25000 to get a domestic ticket so this practice isn't for everyone. I think the average person would either need a business or a couple kids in college to build up milage quickly enough. I run the tuition and most bills through the card and have gained enough miles for 8 tickets over about 3 years. It can work but you need to be able to pay the balances or plan on financing your credit card debt with home equity etc. Use it carefully. My Citibank AAdvantage card cost $50 per year so you can say the first ticket cost $50. If you don't pay your balance off monthly it is not worth it. Your finance charges will probably exceed the cost of your airline tickets. Citibank partners with American Airlines. Delta with American Express and Us Air with a bank I can't remember. Make sure you apply for the "correct" card and get yourself a frequent flyer number from the airline so the milage and the charges are linked up. Good Luck Bearville.

If you are about to pay for it with a Home Equity Loan wait. First put it on the card and get the miles as stated above. Then use your home equity loan to pay off the entire purchase and get the deduction. :D

This sounds like an excellent idea for me. I've been using the GM MasterCard for a number of years (have cashed in credits on two car purchases already, one in '94 and the second in '96). You get a credit of 5% on purchases up to a maximum of $500 credit per year ($10,000 in purchases per year). I'm usually close but always end up looking for something to charge in the January through mid-March period (I have a mid-March anniversary on the card) to assure the full $500 credit for the year. I think I'll charge the annual dues next January. I always pay off my credit card(s) every month, but this 5% credit has been a really generous benefit. My DW should be ready for a new car in another two years (her's is the 1994) and likely there will be another Pontiac in her future. I should be up to $3500 credit by then (which is the maximum benefit available under this program). The GM M/C is free (and there is a pretty nice web site; you can check your account status on-line, pay your bill by direct debit from your checking account, etc.). Only useful if you buy or lease a new GM vehicle (no Saturns, however), but a substantial benefit if you do.

We have a SW Airlines VISA card. They only take 16,000 miles to make a round trip ticket. We put the entire add on points on it because hubby was out of town when BWV was about to sellout and it was simpler. We pay it off at the end of each month 'cause the interest would kill you if you let it run. I think it was around $50/year also.

I do have a business which lets us use it quite a bit. I hadn't thought about college tuition, though, and since DS starts in the fall it's a great idea. Thanks!!

When we bought our initial purchase, I put half on a visa card and financed the other half with Disney for 1 year with no interest.

Before charging my DVC membership to my American Express, I called AMEX to make sure they would process such a large purchase. They said they would only OK $12,000 without a phone call verification, etc. So I charged $12,000 on my AMEX and the remainder on a VISA.

So you may want to call AMEX first before you try to charge all on that card.

Rather than pay for our DVC membership directly out of our savings in Sept '99, we ran our entire DVC purchase through on this card. We took advantage of their rewards program...airfare on the airline of your choice. If memory serves me correctly, it was put on in 3 installments (the down payment and two partial payments). I believe the credit card company has a monthly cap on the amount of points they will credit...stretching the transaction out over three months helped us to avoid exceeding that limit. The net benefit for us on this transaction was approx. half an airline ticket.
Every little bit helps, I always say.

Forgot to mention that the annual fee is ~$50. We always pay the balance in full, we run EVERYTHING through this card. And have earned 5 airline tickets in 2-3 years.
