Goofydadeo, could you please tell us first-timers how your kids liked the kids clubs. Did your younger one go willingly? Let us know about your experiences!
Thanks,

Hersh - both of our kids loved the clubs, during our first cruise our DD3 and DS7 had a great time - they were both in the Oceaneers Club. They felt right at home from the start as all the counselors are fantastic and they met several friends the first day or so. There were so many activities they loved, the visit from Snow White (DD3 idolizes her), the Goofy PJ Party (DS7 loves him hence my login name), trips to the movies and seeing Disney Dreams, etc. Take a minute to check out the Navigators on Dave_From_Marietta's site dcltribute.com, they are loaded with activities. We used the clubs extensively on our second cruise too. My DS was 8 by then and went to the Oceaneers Lab - video games, science experiments (they made flubber!), lot of computers, sports deck games, etc. The kids clubs are the #1 reason we go back because our kids love it and we (me and DW) get lots of quality time alone!!! Plus on our most recent cruise we had some of the same counselors, and our kids remember them from the first cruise and they remembered the kids. They're great!!!

Thanks for the quick reply. My DH and I are hoping for some quality time too. I hope our DS (5) makes a connection with someone, he tends to be shy in new situations. Maybe starting Kindergarten will help. Hersh

This will be our second cruise - DS 12 (almost 13), DD 10. We had a great cruise in 2001, and are looking forward to returning to the Magic!

Hey Wenpop = would your older kids want to email my kids a couple months leading up to the cruise? My daughter was able to make a connection through the DIS Boards before our first cruise - and that was a great thing for the kids club - my kids "knew" someone already!

Supposed to be a hot 92 degrees here in MI tomorrow, now if I only had a little ocean to go with that heat and sun.... although Lake Michigan will do!

We will also be on the April 5 Magic Eastern. This will be our second Disney Cruise. We will be celebrating our anniversary. Our first cruise was in December of 1998. I'm sure there have been a lot of changes since then and we're really looking forward to the 7 days. We have had nothing but good to say about our first cruise so I know this one will be GREAT!
What will the weather be like in April?

wenpop....only 180 days!!!! I hadn't started counting yet. Now I'm getting really excited. This time of the year usually goes pretty fast with Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I've been putting away my summer clothes etc. and keeping out the things I want to take on the cruise in a separate drawer. Is anyone else doing that or am I just pushing things. I guess I really am getting excited!

I will need to get the countdown clock under my signature so I can keep track! Is there any way of putting the countdown clock on the computer screen when not on disboards?

I just called DCL (Castaway Club#) to give them the new expiration date on my Disney Club card for onboard credit ($50.00) and while I had them on the phone I asked what the remaining availability was. The CM told me that throughout the ship it looked like they only had 30 - 40 rooms available. He said it would probably be a sold out cruise. I think I counted 5 familys so far... is there anyone else?

:Pinkbounc Hi April 5th cruisiers ! We are getting very excited ! We have had a mild winter so far in VA, but we are sure looking forward to some warmer weather. Any recommendations on Eastern Excursions with a five and eight year old?

90 days and counting. Yeah!!!

01-03-2003, 06:41 PM
zbuddy sorry we'll miss you - it being Spring Break in Atlanta I think that's why several of us Georgians are on this sailing. Let us know how you like the Wonder - we've always done the Magic but constantly keep thinking about a 3-4 day escape on the Wonder!

Good to hear from you again Hersh! On our first trip to St. Thomas we did the Island Tour and Coral World. Our kids were a bit younger than yours, DS7 and DD3. They loved Coral World (it's like a marine zoo). On our most recent visit we went to Trunk Bay (on our own) and snorkeled. There is an underwater trail and National Park lifeguard which made it reasonable with small kids (Castaway Cay is even better for kids snorkeling although the marine life is more colorful at Trunk Bay). In St. Maarten we have gone to Orient Bay two times and loved it (Kakao Beach Club is excellent). Both times we did it on our own as well (with a rental jeep). We can't wait to go again - it's sooo relaxing... the first two days at sea are wonderful... and the kids love the clubs (so do we! HaHa!).

Now for the prices to drop to get us to Orlando. Usually from MI we can get air for about $150 - so far no luck. I'm hoping the next round of price wars opens up some possibilities here.... We plan on flying down the day before. Anyone else?

And hey, I notice there are 8 DU families sailing, so we qualify as a "group"!

Goofydadeo - we are thinking about St. Johns this time around - we did Coral World/Coki beach on our own also on our last cruise. Tell us more about Kakao Beach Club on St. M too. How does jeep rental compare to taxi? We did the Golden Eagle catamaran - kids loved that one. We may do it again, not sure. DS wants to kayak - we'll see.

Happy New Year all!

Kendall,
Please tell us about your experience on the Golden Eagle Catamaran and Coki Beach and Coral World. Our kids are 8 and 5, will they be afraid on the catamaran ? We are also considering the 5 star St. John adventure. We may just end up doing things on our own too !
We have our reservations at the Radisson the night before as we are driving down from VA. We are leaving our car at the hotel.

Hi Hersh!

Golden Eagle: Our sea was quite calm that day. On our first cruise the kids were 8 and 10, and both loved the catamaran ride. It is a large catamaran, with room to sit on the front netting and get wet from the splashing waves - this was a big hit. Kids enjoyed watching the crew handle the boat, too. Snorkel equipment was in excellent condition, and we snorkled right off the catamaran. Kids also swam from the catamaran to the beach at the island we sailed to (there is a small boat available to take you to the beach as well). I understand that if the seas are rough, the catamaran ride may be wetter and wilder than what we experienced. Nice crew, great excursion. Both my kids would love to do this excursion again, but we are going to go to Anguilla instead. Will your kids be afraid of the catamaran? My 10 year old wasn't, my 8 year old quickly became enthralled with riding up front. There are also ample places to ride off the netting, both up front and inside the catamaran. I imagine as long as the seas are relatively smooth, your kids will be fine unless they are simply afraid of boats.

Coral World/Coki Beach: we did this on our own, no problem, and definitely less expensive than Disney, and less rushed. Plenty of taxis available when you get off the beach to take you. We packed our lunch from the previous evening's buffet and took our cooler and day bags with swim suits and towels. We went to Coral World first because there are lockers available there. Coral World's website is http://www.coralworldvi.com/ (http://www.coralworldvi.com/) there was a discount coupon on their website - it is still there in the "events" area. I see it expired in 2002, but just email their marketing office and I'm sure there will be a new coupon for 2003. We stored our gear in lockers at Coral World, and then enjoyed the exhibits - your kids will probably like this if they like fish. At Coral World there is also the opportunity to SNUBA - check their website - we didn't snuba, but other DISers who have enjoyed the experience. I also see Coral World has added many activities/excursions - they may be worthwhile checking out. After lunch we went to the locker rooms in Coral World and changed into our swimsuits for the afternoon - Coki Beach is literally steps away from the front gate of Coral World. We spent the afternoon at the beach (crowded, small beach), and then returned to Coral World to shower, change and head back to the ship. Taxis were in abundance at Coral World and Coki - the taxi that takes you there will want to pick you up too - but don't fret if you decide to stay later as there were many taxis available. Many people rave about Coki - unfortunately the day we were there the water was murky from a storm, and the snorkeling was not good. The beach was crowded during the afternoon, but we found room, no problem. The locker rooms and showers at Coral World were very convenient for the day! This trip we are considering going to St. Johns.

Happy planning!

for 4/4, but I probably will within the next month using priceline. We are arriving at 11:30 pm Friday night so unfortunately we won't be in a position to meet! If you are driving down, I would check out Dave's site www.dcltribute.com (http://www.dcltribute.com) and stay over in the Cocoa Beach area if you have time. Then again, stay in Orlando and take in Downtown Disney Friday afternoon/evening if you have time!

Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't posted lately. We are busy trying to figure out our excursions since the 60 day mark is this Tuesday, 2/4 (if my calculations are correct). We are planning on driving down on Friday morning, 4/4 and staying near Downtown Disney so we can enjoy it on Friday evening -- we are even toying with the idea of coming down Thursday and spending the day at MK. We are traveling with another family (their first Disney cruise) and this will be our 5th (can't believe it -- it's so much fun every single time). Our kids are DD5, DS9 and our friends have a DD7. As for dining, we have been very fortunate on all of our cruises to have had a table for 4, although we have quickly made friends with those dining at tables adjacent to us. I wouldn't worry about this at all!

Tell us how your last cruise went? We will have to have your DD meet our DS. He's still not to sure about the clubs and needs someone to show him the ropes. I know if he would just relax, he would have fun. He tends to overthink things and stress' himself out. This is our first cruise and he just doesn't know what to expect. Do the counselors make the shy ones feel comfortable?

Very handy! Another suggestion - if you all have electronic photos of you and your loved ones, I would be glad to put together a photo directory of our group so we may recognize one another - I'll put in in Word and send out to everyone.

If you would like to participate, you can email me your photo and information to me at ckendall@msu.edu - include:

Ages (of kids, adults optional ;) )
Mailing Address
email
room on Magic

This is entirely optional - if you prefer to maintain your privacy, that is fine too!!!

Hersh - We did the Eastern at the last minute back in Nov. 2002 and it was great! That was when we went to St. John and snorkeled at Trunk Bay for the first time (on our own - not an excursion). It was great (in a National Park, with a lifeguard, calm waters, underwater trail, kids loved it, etc.)! We plan on going back again this time via the ferry from Charlotte Amalie(sp?) instead of via Red Hook. This time we might try Cinnamon Bay too! As for St. Maarten we'll go back to Kakao Beach Club on Orient Bay for the 3rd time - great food, nice beach, etc.

As for the kids clubs, both of our kids simply love them! I'm sure our DD would love to meet your DS and help him feel at home. The kids activities are super and so are the counselors. They go out of their way to make the kids feel at home, especially those who might be a little unsure at first. Sometime after you board on Saturday take your DS down to visit the club and meet the counselors (and some of the kids too). That will give you a chance to walk around and look at things together. I think they open for the first evening around 7pm. Take a look at the 5-7 YO Navigators on dcltribute.com to get an idea of the activities you can get him to look forward too.

Kendall - I'll have to dig up a picture and scan it and send it to you. Thanks for your offer!

One other thing we have done with our fellow dis'ers is to try and meet each other in the terminal while we are waiting to board on Saturday am. We usually get there early and are near the front of the line. On our first trip all of us who posted wore lime green ribbons pinned on our our shirts. It worked! We met 4-5 of our fellow dis'er families. Perhaps we should consider something like this. Anyone else have an idea?

skeegan

goofydadeo,

Now that you mention it I remember 2 years ago when we cruised, we wore lime green ribbons and kept running into each other in the terminal. Bought the ribbon at Walmart.

That sound like a good idea to me, it worked before. How about everyone else?

RachelTori
02-26-2003, 09:38 AM

Also, still haven't received our docs. Should I call our TA?

goofydadeo
02-26-2003, 02:30 PM
Ribbons it is!!! Lime green is hard to find.

RachelTori - We usually try to arrive/unload/park around 10am. BTW my DW's name is Torey too! I think they start letting folks through the initial security screening around 10:30am, however I may be wrong. Most times the boarding line starts forming as soon as people are checked in (after security screening). Actual boarding usually happens between 12:15-12:45pm. Most times it's around 12:30pm. Of course as soon as you board you'll want to make those Palo and Spa ressies! I'm not sure what to do about your docs since I have always booked directly with DCL. Anyone else know?

Also, for those of you in cat. 11 it appears that DCL has dropped the price to $799/pp to fill the ship (for more info check out mousesavers.com). Same for the 4/12 Western. Wouldn't it be great to do a Eastern/Western back to back? Imagine a 14 day vacation!

Thank you for the info, Goofydadeo!

Are we going to use lime green ribbon or should we try another color that's easier to find, but still distinctive?

We are staying at Radisson and had planned to leave our car there, take the shuttle to port. Do you feel it would be wiser for us to park at the port?  BTW - I think your DW has a GREAT name! Tori's Mom, Laura.

goofydadeo

RachelTori - We have stayed at the Radisson once and we chose to park at the port ($10/day currently) instead for security and peace of mind -- and to make it easier to get to/from the terminal (you have to make a shuttle reservation at the Radisson when you check-in - first come/first served). Parking at the Raddison is in a general unsecured hotel parking lot in front on the hotel (near the check-in area). It is on a main street in Port Canaveral which is well lit. Parking at the port is in a fenced-in attended lot. It's up to you as to what you feel comfortable with. The good news is that you can make this decision when you check-in based on how you feel about what you see, and what shuttle times are available for your party. Good luck!

Hi All!!
Just a quick poll of the group, if you don't mind. How many of the group with children, will be on the early sitting for dinner? Of that group, will all the DH'S be wearing Tux's or Suits for the formal nights? I haven't made up my mind yet, and would welcome any suggestions. Thanks in advance

Are some rotations preferable over others? Just when I thought I had it all figgered out! ;)

We have early seating. Our party is eight adults, girls 8 and 3, and boys 6 and 1.

Not all of us are doing the formal night; we can't bear the thought of hauling formal attire all the way across the country. For us, trying to pack for two little ones and ourselves as efficiently as possible is trouble enough! Besides, DH almost freaked out when I said he couldn't wear jeans to dinner. You'd think a guy who wears his jammies to work every day (OK, they're scrubs) would want to get dressed up once in a while!

I'm sorry to miss out on dress-up, but he and I have both said if we ever do a cruise by ourselves, or when the kids are a few years older, that we'd DEFINITELY participate.

On our first cruise we had LAP - it was great! Each rotation has unique advantages (when to see the Animator's show, when to dress up or not dress up due to the theme, etc). In fact, we liked that rotation with the way the themed nights worked out. In my best Carribean accent, "don't worry, mon".:) When you check in at the Port, you will see your dining rotation on your Key to the World card - so you will know immediately where you will be eating that night! Also, check the Navigator prior to boarding for the ressie times - very useful!

Well, we're almost down to 1 month! Today DW and I discussed getting out the suitcases to start the preliminary packing.

Also this weekend we met two other families at my DS9's roller hockey game that are on the cruise! What a coincidence!

I recently read about the Magic tendering in St. Thomas instead of docking at the Havensight pier. We tendered in Grand Cayman and although it was relatively painless, it does take a bit longer to disembark! Since we are going to St. John on our own and want to get off early I am watching www.ships.vi for the schedule. I hoping we don't have to tender as it makes it so much easier to get off the ship when you have not booked a disney excursion!

Off to get the suitcases out of the attic!

Skeegan,
I hope we can meet also. Our cabin numbers are 5644 (mine and my daughter's 26) and 5642( I think is my sister's cabin) The children are my sister's grandchildren and my great niece and great nephew in every way. Both children are very friendly(after their initial shyness). We are hoping they will want to participate in the kid's program. They like making friends and enjoy school and camp so I don't think it will be a problem. I know she would love to meet your daughter.
I think my daughter would like to meet someone, but I guess a Disney Cruise is not the way to go(LOL). She would be so angry with me if she knew I said that. Its a good thing she doesn't know about this board;)
We haven't gotten our cruise documents either, but we booked through Travelocity and were told not to expect them until two weeks before the cruise.

Thanks for the welcome to the boards. This is just the nicest group of people!:)

Hi guys. Wish I were going to be with you, but I wanted to let you know about a DISer CM that will be on your cruise! Remember DisneylandDarren and his posts from a back to back cruise a while ago? He liked the Magic so much, he got a job onboard! He's a riot. His first working cruise is that of this week so you all will be his 5th. He's starting out as a server, so if you see a tall, brown haired English chap with a big wide grin, that would be Darren. Tell him that Lori and his DIS family say HI!

I've been working on my packing list most the morning. It's times like these that I miss my single days when I packed for ONE instead of FOUR! ;)

I think I've mentioned before that my mother-in-law has handled all of our reservations, and as I've found useful info here I call her and she passes questions on to the travel agent. This TA has been very UNhelpful from day one (don't get me started!), but this last thing was just too much...

The more I read about transportation options to and from the port, the more I realized that there were lots of methods cheaper than the 12 Disney transfers we'd purchased. Last week I suggested my MIL ask the TA about cancelling/returning our transfers so we could handle transportation on our own. The TA told her it was too late, we had already paid for them so we were committed. I said I thought that sounded odd, and encouraged my MIL to call DCL directly. Of course, someone there told her that NO, we could easily cancel the transfers and find our own transportation. We're saving more than $400 doing this.

Guess what TA isn't getting a big fat thank-you from 12 irritated clients???

Having our own transportation makes the whole packing thing a little easier since we don't have to feel guilty for hogging all the cargo space ourselves. Of course, now we'll just fight amongst ourselves and stew over it the whole week long... ;) :)

Going through the Calgon packing list I discovered that I still have lots of shopping to do! Off I go...

We have cruised before, but never w/ Disney.

Hey there!

I'm also new to the Forum - GoofDad1 (his post is above) is my dad! I'm his DD(17).

I was just wondering if any older teens will be on the ship during the 4/5/03 cruise. I'm kinda stuck in the middle -- not 18 til August, but a senior in HS. So I can't get into the "adult" stuff, yet I'm at the upper end of the 13-17 group. Just hoping to meet some people my age! E-mail me or post a reply!!

Anyway - so excited for the cruise!!! I've been reading the PassPorter guide and posts and web info for the past few weeks now, and I cannot wait!

Also, we're from Marietta, GA too, going during our spring break.

Hope to chat with some people before we leave!

Kaitlyn, where do you go to school? My daughter, Rachel, is a senior at Lassiter. Unfortunately, she will not be joining us on the cruise - just her 9 yr old sister (sorry!). If you don't meet any older teens on this board, don't despair! From what I've heard, we have a pretty full ship and I know there will be other teens your age; you'll have a GREAT time!! Is your family driving down? Will you be @ a hotel the night before? There will be a group of us at the Radisson. :D Rachel & Tori's Mom, Laura.

Hey Laura,

I'm a senior at Walker. Too bad your daughter isn't going - does she not want to go or does she have other plans? I would NOT want to miss out on any Disney cruise (even if it's with my family ;) ). But again, that's just me, hehe (my friends don't always seem to get my Disney obsession -- "You're going to Disney World AGAIN?!?")

I'm trying to convince my parental units to let us (me and my 13y/o bro) skip the whole day that Friday before the cruise so we can have a leisurely drive down (can you say senioritis?). So yeah, maybe we'll stay at the Radisson if we don't stay with family down there.

Hey Kaitlyn! Rachel loves Disney and Cruising, but felt she got a better offer with 6 or 7 of her friends! Guess I can understand!! If your family does make it down to the Radisson, you'll probably find many of us by the pool! Otherwise, look for the families wearing lime green ribbons at the Terminal on Saturday (don't forget to get ribbon for yourselves!). If I remember correctly "ladypam" from Atlanta, will be wearing a shirt covered in Disney pins (I can't wait to see that!) :) I look forward to meeting you and your family; it's going to be a GREAT week!! RachelTori,

You are right that will be me with the Minnie Ears and the pins all over my shirt. I will also make room for the green ribbon. I am just hoping I will be able to walk by the time of the cruise. I had a serious surgery to reconstruct my foot(my arch collasped) in May. I had to have another surgery last week to take all of the metal and hardware out of my foot. I don't know why I thought this was going to be a breeze:confused: It isn't quite as painful as the operation in May, but a breeze - NO:( I may have crutches or a cane to go with my Minnie ears, shirt full of pins and green ribbon. I should be very easy to pick out in a crowd!  I AM GOING! :sunny: Even if I have to crawl onto the ship! I am so glad that I have had my passporter and this board to keep me excited. I love reading all the information and everyone's posts.

To everyone who wants to meet my DGNE:earsboy: (9) and my DGNI:earsgirl: (7) and I hope my sister (29), my daughter (27) and me (29) (my daughter will soon be older than me:p ) we have changed cabins. I happen to agree with you about skipping school on Friday. That's what we're doing! Trust me, attempting to leave town on the Friday afternoon before Spring Break is a nightmare. RachelTori and Skeegan,

Thank you so much for your prayers, good wishes and offer of help. My sister may ask you to carry my purse. She is really tired of carrying it for me !!;) My daughter, Rachel, attends Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY. Neither one of our daughters would go to school in Georgia no matter how much we begged and pleaded. The older one who will be on the cruise with me went to U. of Michigan and now teaches Art in DeKalb County. They both went North. The older had to come back to get out of the cold and snow. We'll see what happens with the younger one.

I am concerned about goofydadeo's post about the traffic. We don't have any choice about leaving Atlanta Friday afternoon. We were going to try to drive straight through. I guess we will have to rethink that:eek:

Can anyone tell me where I can get one of those neat counters that most of you have and how to install it in the posts?

Pam, tell your sister we'll be happy to help carry your purse or whatever else we can help with! Hope you're feeling OK.

I happen to work for the University of Michigan! I work for the Institute for Social Research; interviewing Atlanta area Study participants! (our current study is NSHS - National Survey of Health & Stress funded by NIH. We're in the final stages of the adult interviews; also doing an Adolescent Study, which is fascinating!) Ann Arbor is a really neat college town, but winters are endless!!

We plan to leave Atlanta Friday morning. Since we're up on the north end (near Woodstock), it can take forever to get thru the city. If I remember correctly, if you're not south of Atlanta before 3 p.m., you'll be sitting in traffic for quite awhile. Any chance you can re-work your plans? If you can head out shortly after the Friday morning rush hour, you should be to Port Canaveral by dinner time. If it still has to be Friday afternoon, the earlier the better!

I don't know how to do the "countdown" -- but has anyone else noticed the clock on this site is hours off?!!!

Wow, what a small world. I know my daughter will love to hear about your job. She loved Ann Arbor!! I was born and raised in Michigan and my oldest(she will be on the cruise) was born there too while my husband(he won't be on the cruise:( ) was in law school at U of Mich.

I don't think we can do anything about changing the time we leave. My daughter is a teacher in Dekalb County schools. Even though the kids only have a half day of school that Friday she has to stay the whole day - teacher meetings and staff development. She doesn't think she will finished until 3:30 which puts us right in the middle of the mad exodus out of town. Unless by some miracle she can leave early. We will probably drive part of the way Friday and then get up super early on Sat. to make it to the ship at a reasonable hour.

YES!! Hard to believe it is only about a week away! We'll have our green Mickey Ears stuck on us w/double-sided tape! Since I have lime green ribbon, we plan to bring that along too - just in case!

Any of you who will be at the Radisson Friday evening, we should try to meet (maybe by the pool?) - 7:30 or 8 p.m.? Just a thought!

Well I found them at the Town Center (Marietta) HD. They aren't stickers but we'll make 'em work! I liked the Alien Green ones the best! We won't be at the Raddison on Friday evening but we'll be looking for everyone Saturday morning at the terminal!

We will be at the Radisson Friday night but probably won't get there until around 10 - 11 p.m. That is when we made it last time. So maybe we will see you on the shuttle or terminal Saturday.

I still need to get to Home Depot to get the Alien Green Mickeys.

DisneyGalKaitlyn, thanks for the great idea! I went to Home Depot tonight and picked up several bright green Mickeys. I think I'll laminate them and punch holes to wear with our KTTW cards.

If anyone out there can't get the green Mickeys, let me know and I can mail you one or two (laminated if you want)... there's still time!

Can you believe it? We're in the single digits of the countdown!

I am so glad that Home Depot could be of assistance for this cruise. I work at the corporate office and I think it is great that we have these Mickey's available. Now when I see you all I will be able to think about work! We are counting the days!!

I found my Alien Green Mickeys at Home Depot today. I felt guilty stopping just to get the stickers so bought other items that I may have time to use after the cruise. Thank you kdldbd.

Skeegan, thanks for shopping at Home Depot! ;) I picked up a few myself today. That was really a great idea and I can't wait to see how many people are on board with their green Mickey's.

I made a Word-format roster of the DIS folks on this cruise. If you emailed me your information, I emailed the roster to you this morning. If you would like a copy of the roster, PM me with your email address and I will send you one. The file size is 767K with the embedded photos, FYI.

PM - "private message" button is at the bottom of this message - that will send me a message through the boards and you won't have to post your email address on the boards.

So everyone has their lime green aliens or ribbons for the terminal, right? We plan on arriving at the terminal by 11 am - we fly in late Fri night and are going to the port with ******** in the morning. For those able to meet at the Radisson Fri night - enjoy!

Safe journey everyone to Port Canaveral!

Cindy, thanks for doing this--it'll be nice to have some reference of who we'll be meeting. I think I'll print it out to take along and maybe fill in details as we get to know our new friends!

Kendall,

Thank you for doing the roster:D
I can't believe we have 4 days till we leave for the trip. Yesterday, we had snow here in Northern Virginia. So much for spring time:(
We have a question. We are presently filling out the paperwork that comes in the booklet. Our TA told us that on the page for the Bahamas we need to put the ship as our address. Is that what everyone else was told? If someone could pass on info, that would be great. We are looking forward to meeting everyone with "green mickeys". Have a safe trip down, and cya on friday:cool: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsboy:

A few weeks ago I posted about tendering:
I recently read about the Magic tendering in St. Thomas instead of docking at the Havensight pier. We tendered in Grand Cayman and although it was relatively painless, it does take a bit longer to disembark! Since we are going to St. John on our own and want to get off early I am watching www.ships.vi for the schedule. I hoping we don't have to tender as it makes it so much easier to get off the ship when you have not booked a disney excursion!

I just checked http://www.ships.vi and found out we will be docking at WICO instead of tendering. Yes! This will make it a lot easier to get off the ship early (for those of us who are not a Disney excursion)!

good news indeed - thanks for checking! We to are thinking of heading to St. Johns on our own that day.

And speaking of snow - we woke up to 1.5" of it this morning. It is pretty much gone at this point. It was a beautiful scene out the window - a last farewell to winter. OK, bring on the heat of the Carribean - we're ready!

Went to Home Depot today and found Kaitlyn's Alien Green Mickey Ears as well as the paint cards. What a nifty idea!

My pleasure to do the roster - hope you all find it useful and we all find each other on the Magic!

I can hear that horn now....!

kendall - how do you plan on getting to St. John?

On our last Eastern we took at taxi to Red Hook, then the ferry to St. John follow by another taxi to Trunk Bay. This whole process took about 2 hours. This time we were planning to take the St. John ferry from Charlotte Amalie. Do you have any insight to share on this?

Thanks!

Goofydadeo

PS - Sorry I never got you a photo (my scanner is not working)

There are Bahamas Immigration cards in our cruise documents. We don't need to fill them out, do we? I don't see any of our ports-of-call listed.

With 12 in our party, we'd prefer not to fill out any more forms than necessary!

Thanks.

JLSM97 - you do need to fill out those cards because Castaway Cay (aka Gorda Cay) is in the Bahamas!

There is an interesting link to an article on dcltribute.com about the history of the island. If you are interested read try this link:

Jennifer, I'm pretty sure the immigration cards need to be filled in (sorry:( ) I believe you check the box "other island". We were instructed to fill out/sign every form EXCEPT the form for minors travelling without a legal parent/guardian since that doesn't apply in our case. Good luck! See you Saturday!! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc Laura

Thanks for your quick responses!

I did think it was odd that they would include a form in our documents that didn't apply to our cruise... and that's exactly why I just wasn't sure what to do! I appreciate the clarification.

See you soon! :)

You asked about St. Johns - I've been watching your other thread asking that question. If we go, we plan on taking the Charlotte Am. ferry rather than fight the traffic on the way back to the ship in the afternoon.
I say "If", because we are having a family discussion about if we want to spend the day at the beach on St. Johns or do a deep sea charter instead. We have also toyed with the idea of renting a private boat w/captain to do some fishing, snorkeling and beach combined.

We obviously have to decide soon...!

Hi,
DVRCraig, I plan on getting a cruise line lanyard, but you can buy them at walmart in the jewelry section. I bought the ones for the kids there.
Well Dis members, the time is almost here. We are packed and ready and will start driving down Thur. PM. We will be at the Radisson on Fri. Hope to meet some of you then !
Everyone have a safe trip!

dvrcraig - instead of lanyards we purchased the thin (credit card size) waterproof DCL boxes which can hold your KTTW card, picture id, credit cards, etc. They come in several colors (red, blue, etc.) and have the DCL logo on them and a cord to go around your neck. My son purchased his on Castaway Cay (and it has the CC logo on it!) We wear them everywhere; at the beach, pool, snorkeling, etc. and since they are watertight you don't have to worry about the contents getting damaged, nor do you need to carry around a wallet or purse. Ironically my DW purchased one (non DCL) at a local dive shop before our first cruise and it was more expensive the DCL logo ones sold on the ship!

Everyone please have a safe trip down - we look forward to meeting everyone Saturday morning at the DCL terminal.

safe journey all - here in MI we have a severe weather alert for freezing rain/snowjust north of us...we should be OK to fly out by tomorrow night down at Detroit...I can't wait to leave winter behind! We had some nice weather in the 50s this week - but now until next week is supposed to be miserable. Time to go on a cruise!

See you at the terminal Saturday morning!
