Can you believe it?!?! After all the 15 million posts and messages- its almost time!!! :thumbsup2 Its gonna be so cool! Tell Piper to trade pins with the people with green lanyards a lot too- Aleks got some really cool pins from them! They only trade with kids, no adults- so they tend to have some cooler ones since the advanced traders don't have access to them. I remebered this while looking at the pics of Piper's pins. She has lots!! Lucky girl!! :hug: And great job on the packing..... finally! :rotfl:

OMGracious!! Not to send you in to "freak out mode" but it's less than 48 hours now!!! Oh, how I wish we would be there too but it's going to be wonderful hearing about all the fun she has when you guys get back. :cloud9:
No one will hold the boat thing against you...I did something similar with Mikayla. She really wanted to ride some of the bigger coasters but is scared to death. She was really pumped about Space Mountain (my fave!) and bummer...it was closed for renovations & didn't re-open until a week after we left. She's psyched about doing it next time.
Tell Miss Piper to have TONS & TONS of fun, take lots of pictures and enjoy GKTW.

So, it would appear that my "one bag plan" has been foiled. I just weighed our duffel, and it's already over 50lbs. The limit is 40! :headache: I don't know whether to use a smaller duffel as a carry-on and try to get 10-20 lbs of crap in it, or just give it up and pay another $25 for a second checked bag. (They're $25 a piece, none free.) I have to be honest and say the frugal part of my mind is having a real problem thinking about paying for another checked bag..LOL. I think I'm prob going to try to do the carry on thing, I was just trying to avoid that when we already have:
Oxygen concentrator
Pulse oximeter
meds & nebulizer
My backpack
Piper's backpack.

While I am used to hauling lots of stuff, I only have so many arms. Hmm..unless I see how much I can shove into Piper's wheeled vest duffel...AHA! Moment. I can probably get everything in there except the O2, and have the two wheeled things. Truth be told, the O2 concentrator can prob go in there as well since she's not actually using it in flight, we're taking more as a "just in case" thing. I may have to mess with that stuff in the morning, it would make my life a LOT easier than trying to schlep everything!

OMG! My DGS Myles went through that last year at DL - he was 3 1/2. He decided that he wasn't going anywhere near anything that moved, even if it was stationary! He very happily stood with Papa and watched the rest of us ride, waving at us as we rode by! :rotfl2: He did like "Otopio" (autopia) which we had to ride about 6 times! :goodvibes We later learned it is okay for kids to feel that way, because they have a hard time separating stories from real. I think maybe at Piper's age, it might be about being old enough to know what happens in the real world, and going through so much illness and hospital, she has gotten a little fearful of things outside her own little world. :confused3

My suggestion for WIWM, Start with IASW!!! really nice boat ride on tracks - for a little girl, not to be missed! :thumbsup2 Save Splash for the last day! :eek: POC will be fun as long as she understands it's pretend! Actually, I remember DH's uncle telling his daughter at age 6 that everything at Disney is pretend, and we will just pretend with it and have a great time! Peter Pan will be really magical, then maybe you can graduate to Goofy's Barnstormer and to Buzz. I think Piper will start having such a good time she will forget about her fears! I know how you feel about Pipeer and the rides. Before we went Jonnie was terrified of practically every ride but diden't want to be left out of any ride eigther. :confused3 I handled it kinda similar to how you plan to. I took him on the smaller rides first (Goofys Barnstormer, Peter Pan, etc) and really played up how good he was doing on those things. I also reminded him it was just pretend. We talked alot about movie magic. I reminded him of special effects in movies he loves that coulden't be real and then reminded him that Disney makes alot of those movies and the rides are the same type of thing, pretend. I also downplayed the scary parts of rides and played up the parts I know he would love (i.e. Brehr rabbit and music in splash,lights in space mountain, etc.) He called me on it a few times "You diden't say that hill would be so big" but by then he had ridden it, had fun, and had decided it wasen't so bad and I was able to point out if he could ride that the next thing shoulden't be so scary. Of course he was so intrigued by the Yeti in EE that he rode that the second day so every time he would get scared after that I'd tell him if he could ride EE he could ride anything and if he diden't like it we'd move on to something else. By the end of the trip he had ridden almost every roller coaster, some multiple times and had had a blast, but if he had decided he diden't want to ride any of them then like you said, there was plenty of other things to do and he would have still had the time of his life. I'm sure it work out fine once you get there but I know what you mean about not wanting her to be disapointed later. That was my main concern with Jonnie too.


As for the bag. Ugh I understand that too. I somehow got confused about my luggage allowance and figured out that I diden't have any free (I thought I had one pp) the morning we left:scared1:. The frugal side of me woulden't allow me to pay for the whole eight pieces of luggage I packed so I repacked that morning and still had to shift things at the airport. At least you figured it out now and it sounds like you have a pretty good idea for how to shift things. Sounds like you've got things under control. You only have a few more day and your going to have so much fun!

Ugh! That stinks about the bag policy. I'd rather pay a porter $5 than 25 for another bag fee.

Don't forget that you can always get in line for a ride and then chicken out if she wants to. Maybe seeing happy people exit, some of them bound to be little kids, will give her courage. Since you won't have to spend much time in lines, this would be the time to try some of them out.

When we took DS (5) and DD (7) last year we told them it was all "Mickey Magic" and that seemed to help. DD refused to go on Space Mountain because it was dark but DS LOVED it, got off, did a fist pump "yeah!" and ran back into line. "Mickey Magic" seemed to make it safe for them to try new things because they knew Micky wouldn't let them get hurt.

I have decided to say frig it and just pack two bags..bite the bullet and pay the fees. In the past whenever we've gone on trips, I've been able to get away with one bag, but that just wasn't in the cards this time. I've moved all of Piper's outfits and the shoes into the second bag. I had already decided to ship a box home, so we may be able to avoid it on the way back. :goodvibes: The limo picks us up at 8:45!! Which means we need to be up and moving at 6am to get meds done. While she does meds, I'll shower. I'm going to put our checked bags into the car tonight, and prob the carry-ons. The limo is picking us up at Gram's, so we need to leave here by 8:15 or so. My plan is to do a fast food breakfast on the road. On the positive side..all her meds are packed except what absolutely can't be, and our clothes are all packed also. I have our outfits laid out for the morning as well. Believe it or not, this is 100% more organized than what I would usually be at this time.. :rotfl2:

Thanks, Dan! My mantra is going to be "relax...relax" LOL. I know we'll have a good time, and I plan on taking lots of pics, just not so many as to interfere with seeing things without the camera lense! That's the disadvantage to it being her and I most of the time..when we were doing Big Give packages, even though I saw her opening them, I felt like I was missing a lot because I was too busy snapping shots to be able to really "watch" her opening them, if that makes sense. I don't want to come away from this trip with the same feeling.

Don't worry about the rides! She will be fine. Last time Brian rode the Goofy's barnstormer and loved it....lets go on Thunder Mountain RR!! OK he finishes and asks if he ever has to ride that again!! I tell him NO. and brought him back to Goofy, while my husband rode again with the other kids. Well this time when it over He says,"That's it? That was lame, can we do the other one again!!!" Don't use tea cups for comparison to any roller coaster, Cosater I can do....I will never get on the tea cups!!!! NEVER!!!

First off..to assure everyone..I'm done packing!!! :lmao: After speaking with Piper's Dr this afternoon, and thinking about it for most of the evening, we will NOT be taking her O2 tank or pulse ox with us. Before this past yr, it wouldn't even have been a question..she was only on O2 when she was in the hospital. The past six months were what really made me think about it. She's doing excellent right now, and our thought is that she is not going to go into a full-on exacerbation in the space of seven days..and also..if she does get that bad within that time frame, she's going to have to go to the ER anyway. And now, onto the wrap-up that I promised. After I post it, I'm going to head to bed..I may check in the am if I have time, but we'll see how it goes!

When I started this PTR, I had no idea what I was getting myself into, and what kind of nuts I was going to end up calling good friends! ;) Piper and I had talked about her making a wish when she was 12 for a long time. I wanted her to be able to make a good decision, and not one she would regret later on, or worse, not even remember experiencing. The past two years though, changed my mind. She has been through so much with her lungs, I couldn't justify putting it off, especially when I knew she wanted to go to WDW, and that she was the perfect age for it. (Although..is any age not perfect? If someone had asked me a year ago, I would have said it was mostly for kids, the boards have changed my mind on that, among other things.)

I had no idea that our little PTR would end up with over 36,000 hits, and over 1,000 posts. The response to Piper and our story has completely overwhelmed me. I am so grateful to the people who "pimped out" our PTR..yes, Jordan and Maroo, I mean you! It means so much to me to see how happy she's been for the past few months planning the trip, commenting on the thread, and being involved in the Big Give. Her wish trip is still a wish trip, but it's come to mean so much more than that. An experience that I'm sure we would have remembered with joy, will be remembered with joy, awe, gratitude..so much more than it would have been without the boards, and all of you who have followed along with us, and became what I consider to be a part of our extended family.

I honestly started writing this update thinking, okay, I'm not going to make anyone cry this time..lol..I was wrong, I'm sitting here crying again as I type, but I have to say I haven't minded it so much the past few months, because all the tears have been good tears. Instead of crying where she can't see me because I just had to access her port and I know she hates it.. instead of crying as she came out of some procedure drugged up and inconsolable.. instead of crying that her lung functions had gone down again. It is such a wonderful change! I could never ever thank anyone who has been involved in our story through our PTR enough. We will be thinking of all of you over the next week as we experience her wish, and as I said before, all of you will be with us in spirit. I had commented on my first post that I wanted to be able to make this the best trip possible..little did I know that it would be partially me, but mostly you guys that would make that happen. Thank you all again! :grouphug:

Im so excited for you guys and that was beautifully written! I think of you and Piper often and am sorry that I have not been able to spend more time on the boards. Alyssa has been dealing with a lot and my step father has been very ill and it just eats up my days. I just feel blessed that I too found this board and "met" the amazing people here and shared stories with you and so many others. Alyssa asked me today if I had heard from you or Piper and i had to hang my head and tell he how rotten I was for losing track of all that was going on. I peek in when I can. But what you did...how you poured your heart into this - posting on so many other pre-trippies, spending time on the DIS, making those friendships - that was all you. All just an overflow of who you are.

The DIS can be anonymous - we can hide behind a user name and post things we would never say in real life to someone and there are times when I think that some DISers do this - but when we get on the DIS and start a pretrip report, post pictures of our family and post about our life - we lose the user name and become a person. Who you are was evident in what you were posting - and same with Piper. Piper is the first wish child, that I can remember, who got a user name and started talking to us. She stole our heart. :hug:

:goodvibes I talked with Amanda earlier this evening, she called me once they were settled in, the flight into Charolette could have posed a serious problem if they had any more of a lay over, it would have been a for sure grounding because of the snow. Amanda said they were kept on the ground for thirty minutes once they left the gate because of de-icing the plane. :eek:

Whew! God was really looking out for them! :goodvibes Amanda said Piper was thrilled with all the attention she was getting from the limo ride, and when they boarded the plane 10 mins. before everyone else they got lots of attention from the flight staff including the pilots who showed her the cockpit. :thumbsup2

It was a good flight and they were pretty tired. It was 10 their time and they were wipped but Piper was still doing meds. (poor baby) and Amanda was still waiting for Piper to finish up and go off to bed so Amanda could make a run to Wal-mart for a few things they needed in the fridge. She thought there would be milk, but instead they had soda and water. :confused3 Sounds good to me, but kids don't usually do so well on soda for breakfast....or so I hear. :laughing:
She will be one worn out Mama, so please be praying for her. Also Amanda mentioned Piper has had sniffles and a mild cough since they were off the plane. Amanda feels it's only because of the plane air , but I would feel more assured if we were all lifting them up while they're gone for illness. I'm sure most everyone is any way. :goodvibes

OK! I spoke to Amanda right after my last post and since it was late and I was way tired I decided to post when I had some time and wasn't so tired. I've been working really hard on going to bed much earlier than I have been in the past (I usually average about 4-5 a.m.). Very bad I know.
Since I've had some crazy days over the last couple of days, I had to post late any way and decide better now than who knows when since tired has been a constant state of mind around here with me! :laughing:

She said the schedule she "thought" they were going to keep and what they have ended up doing have been totally two different things! :rotfl:

She said their first day at MK ended up being to much to keep up with and decided they would bring it down a notch or two, this way they don't wear themselves down.

They are still pretty tired, but having a blast! I can't wait to hear all about the Sea World day they had today, she said she may call me Sunday to let me know how everything is going.

She sounds good, but tired, tired, tired. When I called, Piper was still doing her meds and vest, she actually fell asleep doing her vest. :hug: Bless her little heart.
I think since they slowed down they are having the time of their lives. :yay:

I'm tired, so I'm hoping this is making sense. :laughing:

Okay...we are back...you all caught me..my light is on.. :lmao: I couldn't resist. Going to go to bed shortly, but let's just say the majority of the plans went out the window and cruise control took over, it was a very good thing though! I'm not sure when I'll start doing the TR, prob not for a week or so (if I can stand it that long!). Our week was a lot of ups, and very very few downs! I have gotten one bag unpacked, going to work on the other here in a few minutes. I'm dreading getting it out of the car..it's the 48 lb one!! Piper has also decided to start her own TR, so we'll see what happens with that!

Melissa..I have a title in my head, believe it or not, but I'm waiting to see if another one comes to mind..the one that keeps nudging just sounds too negative to me!
