How great, a birthday cruise!
Is this your first? My name is Lisa and my 17 yr old is Katlyn.

I'm SO glad you posted, this meet board has been more than alittle slow, lol. It should pick up about 2 months before we leave though...hopefully. Or not, wouldn't that be a great b-day present, a ship all to yourself?!lol

Tooth Fairy 68 - Nope, it's not our first cruise. This will be my 12th cruise on DCL and my daughter's 10th on DCL. Our favorite was a 15-day Panama Canal cruise in August 2008. I was worried about such a long cruise, but it was great! Trouble is, now a 3-day cruise seems like it is over in a flash.

My DD happens to have a couple days off of school 3/4/10 and 3/5/10 and I had a free companion airfare that needed to be used by June, so it seemed like a good excuse to book this cruise. Since both our birthdays are right before the cruise, we decided to make it a birthday cruise.

We actually were on DCL and in Nassau on DD's birthday a couple years ago. Believe it or not, she wore a tiara and a birthday pin she got at WDW. We went to the straw market and had a blast. All sorts of people working in the straw market wished her happy birthday or sang happy birthday to her. Once lady even gave her a bracelet she had made. DD really enjoyed that birthday.

Hopefully, we'll pick up some more DISers on this thread who are cruising with us. I would love to do a fish extender gift exchange!

My name is Sue and my daughter is Alysha. She will turn 18 just before the cruise.

"Talk" to you again soon!

I was thinking that since this was spring time, there would be more people going on this date. I hope some more join us soon!

They released great Florida resident rates so we just upgrade to a cat 6 room

I am not going to tell my husband or the kids. They will be so excited!

We are considering going on this cruise. It will be my first cruise ever, and my husband and mother in laws first time on a Disney cruise. We would be bringing our 2 and half year old daughter with us.

We are waiting to get our rewards visa card before we book the trip so we can get the points from it.

I am so excited but I am debating taking this cruise or a four night one. either way hopefully we will be taking our first Disney cruise in March.

I've been on a 3 day and a 4 day I can tell you I prefer a 4 day , but for the price of this cruise I couldn't resist. I definitely enjoyed the day at sea. Either way you decide to go you will have a great time. I can tell you once you go the Disney Cruise Line it will be hard to go on another. I will prob. be 60 and still sailing Disney.

With all the cold weather around the nation, I figured people would be booking vacations like crazy. Maybe 3 days isn't enough of a getaway from the cold weather. I thought I would check our thread and thought I would find lots of new people who had joined us, but I guess we have the ship to ourselves! Good deal.

I am especially looking forward to Castaway Cay on this trip. I was on the Wonder for a 3-day cruise with my sisters in November and became ill. I think it may have been H1N1. I was sick in bed and missed Castaway Cay.

I would definitely prefer a 4-day DCL cruise over a 3 day. But the 3-day fits in with days off school and I have to take less time off work and it is cheaper.

At least the temps here in MN are finally moderating. We have been below average all year (2010) and finally may go above average this week. Our average temp so far for the year has been zero. We are looking forward to a January thaw with temps possibly above freezing by mid-week. Been some crazy weather all around the temp and the world this winter!! STAY WARM!

Thank goodness we are not going now. We had snow flurries/sleet in Florida this weekend. It was a cold and windy 20 degrees!

I gave my hubby a great present for Christmas: A Disney Cruise. We have not even been away for 24 hours since our oldest dd was born. He was ecstatic! We had it scheduled for last week, but on Tuesday morning I received a phone call from my brother in law telling me that my sister (age 46 and the one who actually hooked me into Disney) had died suddenly. Needless to say, I'm incredibly sad and my first thought was, "There's no way I'm going on this cruise at all. Forget rescheduling. Who cares!" However, over the last couple of days, I've decided this is probably the BEST way to honor her as Disney was DEFINITELY her thing. So, we have rescheduled for March 4, 2010. I have it on hold and have to make payment by tomorrow, but I wanted to make sure our credits would go through for our airlines before paying for the cruise. I know this trip will be wonderful, but it will be bittersweet. Really though, I can't think of a better way to honor my sister. Thanks for listening and I look forward to cruising with you all!

I am so sorry to hear about your sister. What a great way to honor and remember her! I hope you will be able to join us. It's finally starting to warm up in Florida.

rn wannabe - I am so sorry to hear about your sister. I am the Disney fanatic in our family, and I agree, going on the cruise would be a good way to honor her. I certainly understand the cruise will be bittersweet, but hopefully you can still have a good time. I hope you join us.

I noticed your screen name - rn wannabe. Still true? My DD17 wants to be an RN. She is a senior in high school. A couple days ago, one of her medical classes took a field trip to the University of Minnesota. They watched a heart transplant on a pig. She was very excited about the experience and especially since she got to touch the beating heart (with gloves on). Maybe she is destined to be a nurse anesthetist or work in a surgical or emergency room setting. She definitely has something in her that I lack. I can't even stand to take my pulse! :)

Thank you MFaieta and MickeyMagic. We booked and got our credit to pay for it so we're all set. Now I just hope nothing else horrible happens before this trip.

MickeyMagic...it's not true because I'm no longer a wannabe. I am! :yay: I've been an RN now for two years. I work in one of our local hospitals on pediatrics and pediatric ICU. I love it! I'm sure you daughter will end up doing something in healthcare. There are soooooooooo many options!

I've actually been wondering lately if we can change our username on here, but I haven't really looked into it. Anyone know?

MFaieta

I keep logging on to see if we got our cabin # yet, so far nothing. I see the cruises before us have theirs already. It's driving me nuts!

01-19-2010, 03:33 PM
I keep looking too. We got an upgrade for our first reservation to a Catgory 9 and like I've said, we didn't get to go on that cruise. Now that we have rebooked our trip we somehow have a Castaway Cay member number (even though we never went on a cruise). I've heard time after time that first time cruisers get upgrades but you're not as likely to if it's not your first time. Now with having a Castaway Cay number I'm thinking it will look like we've been before. ARG! LOL

You might want to check. We got our assignments. It's strange. It still shows us as category 6 but when I look up the cabin numbers, they come up as 5's. But....from what I understand, there is no difference other than we are up to the 7th floor.

We didn't get connecting rooms but only a few away from each other. We are in 7060 and my parents in 7072. So clear verandahs! and midship which should be good for my mom's worry about sea sickness. Also, I hear that a lot of people that were getting sick lately were on the 6th floor.

rn_wannabe
01-20-2010, 02:05 AM
We got 2519 which is still a Cat. 12. Oh well. Maybe we'll get upgraded later. One can wish.:upsidedow

Also, they still show your category the same as whatever you booked, but the room number is what really tells you if you got your upgrade. Your right you got upgraded to a Cat. 5. I'm not sure why on the reservation they don't show it as a Cat. change, but your room number definitely says you got one. Woo Hoo!!!!

We will be booking this cruise this week!!! My husband, my daughter and my mother in law will join us on our last hoorah before my hubby leaves us for a year. This will be my first cruise ever, and their first time on a Disney cruise. We are excited to do a Disney cruise as we live for Disney.

MickeyMagic

Welcome MPwifey!

We got a great upgrade. Booked Cat 12 guarantee and we were upgraded to a Cat 9 on Deck 2. Large porthole and split bath. Yahoo!

We've had a reprieve from winter for the last couple weeks. Comfortable temps with highs in low to mid 30's. But alas, it is coming to an end. Today it rained all day. What's going on? Rain in January in Minnesota? They had to cancel an outdoor hockey tournament on the lakes because it was just too wet. Seems there is very strange weather everywhere this winter! Next week we go back to more typical January weather. High's in the teens and lows around zero or a little below zero.

My countdown clock went under 40 days until we cruise! :hourglass

Does anyone want to do a Fish Extender gift exchange on our cruise? I have participated in a couple on previous cruises and they are a lot of fun. I would be happy to put a list of participants together. Let me know if you want in.

For the Fish Extender Exchange, so far we have:

Hopefully, we will get more to join. Otherwise, we can still have a small FE exchange.

I read through my docs that I received yesterday. I LOVE the new doc style. It is cool and so personalized. Way to go DCL!

Hmm..we haven't received any documents yet. We did just rebook last week though. So I guess they're coming!

I am very excited about the FE exchange. I already have a couple ideas of gifts and tonight I picked up material to make our FE! This is just what I needed!

01-28-2010, 10:52 PM
Do you guys think it would be okay if I included my kids in the FE exchange, even though they aren't going? This probably sounds weird. I was just thinking maybe a general pocket for all five of them and just maybe each family participating could give one item to us instead of one for each kid like they probably would if the kids were on the boat.

They ALL think they never want to do a cruise and I keep trying to tell them how awesome it sounds. I think this would be something cool to take pics of everyday and then bring them back the stuff to share. Plus, I think it helps me to know that we'd be doing a little something for them, while we are gone. If you think this is completely or even a little inappropriate, just say so - no biggie! I appreciate your honesty. Thanks!

MFaieta
01-29-2010, 01:25 AM
That's fine with me. I'm a little sad your kids are not going. My 11 year old daughter would have loved to have people she already "knew" on board.

MFaieta-This is our first vacation ever without kiddos in almost 17 years of marriage. We've done an overnight here and there, but not even gone for 24 hours so it's definitely time. I am really nervous about leaving them for so long, but my mom will be taking care of them so I know they'll be okay, but ....you know...

MickeyMagic
01-31-2010, 11:29 PM
rn_wannabe -- Fine by me, too. It sounds like it may be a pretty small FE exchange, so the more the merrier! I am VERY excited to be getting January over after today and on with February. That means our cruise is getting closer and closer!

rn_wannabe
02-03-2010, 02:41 AM
Woo Hoo!!!! I am soooooo excited. I went over to my mom's house tonight and she basically made my whole FE for me. I was trying to follow the no sew method, but just couldn't do it so I put it together and then she did the sewing! It looks so cute - basic, but cute!!

I have started making the gifts. I sure hope you guys like them! I am personalizing them so I do need last names. If you want to PM me those it would be great, but if you're not comfortable doing that I'll just do the text a little differently. This is so much fun. My sister would have had so much fun with this. She actually didn't do this on any of the cruises she went on.

Anyway, talk to you guys later. I hope a few more people end up signing up and I STILL have not received an upgrade.

rn wannabe - I thought you may be interested in this blog entitled "Disney World After the Loss of a Spouse" posted on Deb Will's webite (AllEars.net):

http://land.allears.net/blogs/allearsteam/2010/01/disney_world_after_the_loss_of.html

rn_wannabe
02-05-2010, 12:08 AM
:rotfl2: I'm not crafty AT ALL either, but I'm 'borrowing' some ideas off disboards. Hopefully you guys won't think they are tacky since I know my creations won't be near as good as those I saw pictures of on here. Well, at least you guys will know the thought is there and that counts for something, right? 1:thumbsup2

rn_wannabe & MFaieta - Please PM me with your stateroom numbers and names for the FE exhange. I'll get the list together. Looks like it might just be the 3 of us, but it'll still be fun! I'm looking forward to hanging my FE on the fish by the door. ;-)

Has anyone given any thought to packing yet? I should be able to get by with a carry on, except then my snorkel fins won't fit. I can pay $46 (roundtrip) to check a larger bag or pay $50 to rent snorkel equipment on CC for DD18 and I. I guess part of it depends on the weather forecast. It needs to be warm and sunny to be going snorkelling.

Are you planning to dress up for pirates night? We usually just wear black capris and a white top and put on a sash and bandana. Nothing too elaborate and it doesn't take up too much room for packing.

Every winter I start to get spring fever earlier and earlier. This year, I had my fill of winter by the end of January. I am so done with winter, but it's not done with Minnesota. It is supposed to snow the next 3 days, but at least it is only supposed to add up to about 6 inches and then the temps are going to drop below normal again with a high in the mid-teens.

Bring on the cruise and bring on the sunshine! :beach:

rn_wannabe
02-08-2010, 11:50 PM
I haven't really thought too much about pirates night yet. Before my sister left us, I had asked her about that. I was surprised that she said she never dressed the part and figured if she didn't, then it was good enough for me! ;) Who knows though, maybe I will.

I'm actually one of those crazy people who love winter!!! However, I am looking forward to our nice and hopefully sunny cruise.

If we end up getting an upgrade at the port, how will you find out and pass that info along?

MickeyMagic
02-09-2010, 11:16 PM
I'll have my name and stateroom number on the FE list. You can call my stateroom and let me know your new stateroom number, probably by leaving a message on the voicemail in the room since I'm not in the room much. I will then pass the information on to the others in our FE, which will be very easy since so far it would only be one other stateroom. :rotfl2:

ToothFairy - Sure, you can join; the more, the merrier!. There are only 3 families so far, so with you, it will be 4. It will be small but still fun.

If anyone else want's to join the FE exchange, let us know very soon. Our cruise is fast approaching. So far we have:

I'm watching the weather like crazy. I am sure it will be warm enough for northerns but for us Floridians, it's been COLD lately. We went to Hollywood Studios on Saturday and we were so cold. It think the high was only 52 and it was very windy.

MickeyMagic
02-19-2010, 05:27 PM
MFaieta - I'm watching the weather closely, too. I was in WDW in late December/early January and I was cold, too even though I am one of those "northerners." I am hoping for warm (even hot), sunny weather!

Wahoo - One week from now we will be on the Wonder heading towards the Bahamas. Since I have late seating, I will be eating dinner right about now.

I hope to find time this weekend to figure out what I will be bringing for clothes. I also have to get my FE gifts in order.

MFaieta - Please let us know if you are still planning to participate in the FE exchange. If so, please send me a PM with your stateroom number and the participants' names (first names is fine) and ages of any children.

MFaieta
02-26-2010, 12:50 AM

I just got my fish extender in the mail yesterday and went out and bought a bunch of cute stuff. I can't wait.

02-26-2010, 12:56 AM
I guess I was really confused about the whole PM thing. I see I have a bunch of unread messages. I promise I wasn't trying to ignore you guys! :lmao:

I think I answered all of them. Yes Patric (my oldest) is without a K. I know teen boys are hard but he's not picky.

My ticker is off because we were going to spend 2 days at Disney before the cruise but we did that this last Monday instead. I'm too lazy to change it.

rn_wannabe
02-26-2010, 02:24 AM
So excited!!!:cheer2::yay: We have the late dinner seating too. I am so stinkin excited I can't stand it!!!

I am kind of bummed about the FE gifts though. Some of them did not turn out as I had hoped, but I have NO time to redo them. So please know that I really did work hard to try to make something memorable (I just realized the ones that I worked so hard on are only for them women LOL) and I hope you guys end up liking them anyway (even if they aren't looking near as good as I wanted).

Are each one of you going to have your own pocket on your FE? I'm trying to decide if I need to label the stuff that doesn't already have a name on it so that everyone will know which gift belongs to whom.

MickeyMagic

The FE exchange is all set - I sent new PM's to everyone with the updated info.

The countdown continues! A week from now we will be in Nassau. Then it is onto Castaway Cay. I am so excited for CC since I missed it the last time (sick in bed on ship). Did someone say "Konk Kooler?" Hopefully the weather will be warm and sunny!! :beach:

Wow,only 5 MORE DAYS!!!!It's crazy to think about. Getting our fish extender stuff together right now and packing. Hope you aren't too dissapointed with your fe gifts, I am in no way crafty, so all my stuff is from the store! I wish I was, but I'm just not!:rotfl:

Sue, I thought this was kinda neat, on our last cruise, we had your cabin! I have a question, is alicia going to participate in Aloft? I'm sure Katlyn would like to meet her if she is.:goodvibes

Tooth Fairy 68 - Funny that you had the same stateroom before. How did you like it? We were upgraded from a Cat 12, so we are very excited to have the porthole and split bath. Alysha has always gone to the Loft in the past, but she will be 18 and I thought the age limit was 17.

I better get off this computer. I am supposed to be trying to get some things ready to pack. Only a few more days!!!!

Loved the stateroom and the service! It was in a good location and we never heard any noise....except for my husband's snoring, lol.

IF Alycia is still in high school, she can still go to aloft.:thumbsup2 Last year Katlyn met an 18 year old who went even though she graduated...... You just have to talk to the councilors to make sure its ok.It's whatever she wants to do tho, lol.

How funny Mindy. I saw that post about the good deal through Priceline. We already book at Pop Century. We wanted to try it and we love being AT Disney so we figured why not. We are going to Downtown Disney on Wednesday night anyway after we get in town. WOO HOO!!! :woohoo: Cya soon!

Tooth Fairy 68 - I talked to Alysha and she is looking forward to trying some of the "adult" things this cruise (ie adults pool area, Match Your Mate show, late night shows), so she is thinking she probably won't go to the Teen club this trip since it is so short.

We leave later today and I am still not packed! I have most everything laid out and need to get it into a suitcase. I always say I am going to pack early, but it never seems to happen. We will be staying at the Hyatt at the airport tonight and heading over to the port in the a.m. on the DCL buses. So excited to finally be going!

Hoping for nice, smooth sailing!

I hope you guys all had a good time! We did. I did find out though that I'm not a friend of the high seas. Anytime that ship was moving I was dizzy! :-( Oh well, at least now I know. We had a lot of fun anyway and relaxed a bunch! Thank you guys for the awesome gifts!!!! Bryan and I had so much fun with that and my girls were so excited when we came home and dumped everything on the table! :cool1:
