I am looking for a new camera. My husband doesnt really want to spend the money for all the bells and whistles right now.
So we thought we would compromise a little.
He suggested a Nikon D40, based on what someone at work told him.
Is that a good place to start? And then maybe in a couple years upgrade?
The D40 doesnt have the changeable lens, right? If not, that is what I would upgrade to in a few years.
What do you think?
Also, does anyone have any pics taken with a D40?
Thanks so much!!

That's what I use and I'm very happy with it,and yes it does have interchangeable len's.You might want to go to dpreview and their you can do side by side with the different camera's on the market today. The Nikon D3000 is going to take the place of the D40 + D60,so I've read.Nikon Canon Olympus are all good camera's it just depends on want you are going to do with it and how much you want to spend.:thumbsup2 Good luck and if you have questions this is the place to come for answers

You really cannot go wrong with any DSLR. When cost is a big issue, then you should probably go with the one that feels the best in your hands. For me it was Pentax. If he has large hands, then the D40 might not feel right. I do not have huge hands or anything, but it and the Canon Rebels just do not feel right to me.

To answer your question.... A good starter camera is any camera you feel comfortable with and you will use.
The D40 is a very popular starter camera. The D3000 is its replacement in the market. Go to a camera store and play with several brands and figure out which one fits your hand and the controls seem natural to you.
We can then get you addicted to buying more and more stuff as you get experience!!!!!!!!!!!

If you want to see some photos from a D40 click feel free to browse my Flickr page.

Here is a link on Flickr that brings up all images created on a D40

Keep in mind the camera is just a tool to take a photograph. No camera made will take perfect shots and cheap platic camera in the right hands can produce some amazing shots.
