Myself, Disney Mom, Disney Grandma, and Disney sister are all doing this cruise as our first. I am jokenly calling this the Escape from Hawaii Cruise, though when we get back to port it will be five days pre Hawaii 70.3. We haven't figured out transportation yet mostly because it is so dang costly to escape Hawaii. Any suggestions for cheaper airfare?
Hi everyone
Just wanted to bump this to keep it near the top of the heap..Haven't done anything else yet as far as if we are going to stay in Seattle prior to the cruise or Vancouver since we are going to stay there after the cruise.. Have a Fire/Medic friend who lives on an island off of Seattle and does EMS there at the FD.. Hopefull prices for oil will keep dropping till after the holidays for a cheaper ticket price.. American looks like they are going to drop their deal with Orbitz. But going directly to the airlines is usually the best bet anyway..
Have a great day and remember the Veterens next Thursday by flying a flag or buy a cup of coffee for a vet..
God Bless America and for what she stands..
James:cool2:
Wanted to post a few items on here which might help everyone going on this cruise:cheer2:This is from another site and I borrowed the info.. Hopefully more will join this group in the near future..:worship:

What is the best time to go on an Alaskan Cruise?
What are good side trips/land excursions for various ports?
What is the temperature on an Alaska cruise? Is it quite cold, given the glaciers and icebergs?
What will I need to wear on an Alaska cruise? Will I need to pack my winter clothes and a cold weather jacket?
What is the best pre or post cruise tour out of Vancouver?
Where is the best place to view bald eagles in Alaska?
Where is the best place to view bears on other wildlife in Alaska?
I don’t have much extra in my budget for shore excursions (and some run over $300 per person!) What are some fun yet inexpensive things to do while in port?
Is it true that not all cruise ships stop in Glacier Bay National Park? I heard that this was one of the most beautiful spots in Alaska and want to see it.
My favorite cruise line does not stop in glacier Bay. What is a good alternative destination?
What about icebergs? Aren’t they dangerous? Will we see any?
Can never get to much info.....so
1. Spend time reading the Alaska board at Cruise Critic - http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=55
2. Read books. My top two recommendations are:
- Frommer's Alaska by Charles Wohlforth: http://www.amazon.com/Frommers-Alask...4226021&sr=8-1 This is the 2010 edition coming out in December. I prefer this to the Frommer's or Fodor's "ports of call" books.

They hang outside your door and friends or DISer's will put something in them every day.. It's fun to get a little somthing different every day( magnet, shot glass, kids things, etc... We're new to the DIS group, but will be on this cruise. Yippeee!
We're on deck 7. me- 44, dh- 50, ds17, dd 9. Second cruise for the adults, but first for the kids. Hubby and I will be celebrating our 22nd anniversary!
For those booking flights (from Hawaii $149 one way direct) try flying into Bellingham. I saw an ad this week in the paper on Alaskan Airlines. Vancouver natives fly into Bellingham as it is cheaper than Vancouver because of taxes.
For those flying into Seattle or Bellingham consider Amtrak instead of the bus. It is cheaper. On the bus you have to completely unload and go through security at the border northbound.
The daily train gets into Vancouver around 11 am a few blocks from Canada Place. Take the Sky trail (exact name escapes me, it's like an elevated subway) to about a block away or a 10-15 minute cab ride.
We're either driving up and parking or taking Amtrak up the day of. Haven't decided yet.
Anyone planning on spending a few days in Seattle (and north to Everett) with questions on what to do let me know. We live near Seattle so could advise on what is good and what is a tourist trap.
There is a Seattle unit of the Klondike Gold Rush National Park and the Underground Tour that tie in nicely to a trip to Alaska. Also the Space Needle, EMP, Pacific Science Center, boats for the Deadliest Catch, Fish Market etc.
Also some nice possibilities of seeing Orcas in May out of Everett.
I recommend the Boeing tour in Everett also (The Dreamlifter is really cool to see and there are 787's all over the place for the "little" boys. Okay, hubby will be happy I gave a plug for his favorite airplane.)
Look forward to getting to know everyone.

My DH, DD8, and I will also be on this cruise. We are coming from the East coast and it is so expensive to fly into Vancouver. We could save so much money by flying into Seattle, but it may take a lot of planning. We were putting heavy consideration into flying into Seattle two days before the cruise and staying overnight in Seattle. Taking the Amtrak to Vancouver the day before the cruise and staying the night in Vancouver. Our concern is that the additional nights in a hotel may make it easier and about the same price as flying into Vancouver. Any advice?
Hi Tearem
I read your post and we live outside Dallas, TX. We are now considering driving to Seattle 2 day pre-cruise and the driving to the terminal or staying in Vancouver and leaving the car in a garage hotel and taking the shuttle to the Canada Lace terminal area for the Wonder.. Don't know anything about the area. There is so much info on the web and it is numbing sometimes to absorb it all..I will be able to book my excursions soon in Feb. We had planned on flying into Vancouver but the price of Flight keep going up with all the little hidden fees. Southwest flys out of Dallas and they don't charge you bag fees but only go up to Seattle.. I have to check insurance to see if they would cover us in a rental in Canada, they should but you never know. Welcome Aboard.

Hi everyone
thought everyone would like to hear the news of the new section on the ship.. Sounds like a good place for a meet and greet prior to sailing?
To prepare for the Alaska sailings, a brand-new venue called Outlook Café was added to the Disney Wonder during dry dock in October. Located high atop deck 10, the 2,500-square-foot Outlook Café is a stylish retreat for guests to relax and enjoy a beverage or cocktail as they peer out through floor-to-ceiling, curved glass windows at breathtaking vistas. The design of Outlook Café is sophisticated with contemporary Art Deco inspiration. An elegant spiral staircase connects Outlook Café with the existing Cove Café one deck below. The 65-seat lounge has a granite-topped cocktail bar with comfortable seating throughout the space, all providing picture-perfect views of the surrounding landscapes.

Is anyone organizing FE for our cruise. We didn't participate on the PC but our DD did, seemed like a ton of fun. We live very close to Skagway and there is a tourist information publication booklet put out for the area. I plan on picking up some of these to share with others on our cruise.

It looks like James (jrp) started a list on page 3 of this thread so I'm leaving it up to him :) Steve & I didn't participate on our last cruise either because we were too overwhelmed. We want to participate this time, but I'm a little concerned about the amount of luggage we can take on the flight. We have always driven to our destination & taken whatever we wanted to. This is the first flight I've taken in 15 years!

hmm i read somewhere there is no pirates in the caribbean party on this sailing?!! did i read that right because now i cant find that info anywhere :confused3
I spoke with DCL last week and was told they definitely won't have fireworks because the loud sounds would cause glaciers to calve. Makes total sense to me. Maybe they'll have the party minus the fireworks?:confused3
Hi Amy
Not only no fireworks but, the new Pirates of the Carribean movie comes out on the 20th of May.. Hopefully wiht an opening in the theatre on the ship.. That is their usual ,odus operandi..:happytv:

Hi Squid:dance3:
Do you think you may be new Chif of the depatment? Wow! That would be great..:worship: Do you need a worn out fire/Medic in the department.. I have been the EMS coordinator with my old department in St. Petersburg.. Hehe , just kidding.. Can't believe it is getting close.. Making new door signs now and will start on the new door magnets soon..:wizard: I will post some of them once I get most of them done.. I also had a couple of tie died mickey shirts done a couple of months age by someone who has a bussiness on the board.. I was thinking of having some made for the Alaska cruise and was wondering if anyone else is interested in getting one for themselves and their clan.. I will contact her soon.. If anyone has a disign or saying please post them. I was just thinking of having ALASKA and the date of the cruise would suffice with the green mickey head and tie died.. What say all of you..:dance3:

We just booked our cruise yesterday. (kids sail free, yippee!) It's our second with Disney and 1st 7 day. Can't wait to see Alaska. Shame about the fireworks, but understandable, and so cool about the Pirates of the Caribbean movie. We would love to participate in fish extenders. It's me, DH, DD (12) and DS (10).
Welcome Dawn and family tot he group.. Will add you in the next couple of days to the list..

Hi Everyone,
Just made our Palo Brunch ressie for May 26, day we're cruising Tracy Arm.
It was the only day left.
Cruisingly Yours
Hi all
Same here on Palo Brunch on the TRM day.. DW did not want tot do Palo anyway.. They always have cancellations after boarding so that should help maybe on high Tea? 2 excursions is more than enough for us.... Can't wait for the train trip and the whale watching.. Getting more excited all the time OCD kicking in.. Made some door signs already, just have to print them out..
Hotel which I can afford after the cruise is not available and am now trying AAA for help.. With gas prices rising out of control due to Libya we don't know if we can drive or not.. Wanted to se some of the Northwest but now don't know..Let's get the ball rolling now..:dance3:We are also goiing to get a table for 4 instead of the multitude of I don't knows.. Anyone who is wanting to share a table I can call guest services and with your reservation number we can share for sure 2md seating..:rolleyes1

We got our port adventures booked, too, but not exactly what we wanted. In Skagway, we were so excited to take the train out to go kayaking in the highlands then take the bus back along the Klondike! But the choice didn't show up on the reservation page so I called DCL and, after 10 minutes and supervisors calling vendors, we find out it's "seasonal" and not offered during our cruise in May. I REALLY wish that would've been posted in the description of the adventure like the others are so we didn't get so excited about it, but I'll survive. We booked the Yukon Suspension Bridge, City, & White Pass Railway instead as an adults-only departure. In Juneau we'll be taking the earliest Exclusive Whale Encounter & Mendenhall Glacier trip, and in Ketchikan we're just going to adventure out on our own & check out the Totem Heritage Center, etc.
We were planning to book Palo for High Tea, too, but those gold & platinum members swiped all the ADRs! :-P We'll check onboard and see if anything opens up. No big deal if it doesn't. There will be PLENTY to do! :thumbsup2

Can't find a hotel in Vancouver after the cruise as there is a convention in town and the RCI through Disney is not assuring us it wil be available until 14 days out..What up with that..:sad1:I do have AAA checking for me now.. Hi all:cool1:
I went to Hotels.com and booked a room at the super 8 the night before the cruise.. I know-super 8 but, they have free parking and we can leave our car there for the cruise.. They also have a shuttle to the cruise port all for free.. The cost was less than 90.00 including the tax.. We also booked after-wards at the Sandman suites, which are more downtown area.. Still hoping the RCI exchange comes through before the cruise but with no notification up to 14 days out and no guarantee for the suite, I had no choice but to find a room on my own. AAA didn't find anything after the cruise.. Convention in town after the cruise.. Hope there are some more DISer's coming on board soon.. Well keep the rubber on the road and carry on..

This is Lauren's first cruise! Can't wait to get to know everyone. I will try to read and catch-up on what's going on.

That could be fun, but you'll have to keep up with us! :) I don't know about you, but I am not a slow-paced person and hate sitting still. The 2-hour whale watching trip is going to kill me!!! but that is what my husband most wants to do so I promised not to whine too much.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the well wishes.. My DD ended up having her gall bladder taken out yesterday. Now I don't know about the excursions for the trip as it is
gonna be real tight for the cruise.. The hospital would not even do the surgery on her without the 20% up front, which is the balance due from insurance we have on her.:faint:. We did strike a deal as the surgery was needed asap.. Now they have called me and requested the same from me for my surgery..:confused3 They are trying to decide if I can have the surgery without all the money up front from the insurance and Medicare part A don't cover.. Boy things really have gotten out of hand these days.:genie:.Sorry 2BNDISNEY-Blake as I had already listed you in our merry crew of DISer's. All I did was update the age on the list.. In case you haven't seen it before, this post has a very extensive listing of cruise information. There is not a whole lot about the Alaska cruise specifically, but all the information about dress codes, tipping, dining, fish extenders, door decor and much more is pretty standard across all the cruises.

I believe I had looked at Cruisecritic for advice on mine which is why I picked the Rainforest Zipline in Ketchikan - the reviews made it sound like the Bear Creek was on the tamer side, and I wanted a little more adventure. But that site may help you out. My first trip to Alaska so sorry I can't be more help.

So far the whole process has been easy. Until now. The site was updating when our Port adventure window opened. Just a temporary exercise in patience.
Then we found out our very "active" 17 yr old who is just 4 months shy of being an adult at cruise time, can not do any "active" activities unless his non active parents go with him. Parents can only do "moderate" activity.
Not wimps, just on the injured reserved list right now. Those we can do our dd9 is too young for. If it were size related she is the size of most 10 year olds but Disney is inflexible on this.
I am kind of surprised there is only 1 Teen activity the whole time. No choice. So far he is handling the disappointment well.
So we are hoping that in Skagway we can find an independent vendor to let him rock climb and rappel, zipline or some other activity to burn off his energy.
So if you see ds running laps on the ship, wave and say hi!.

Anyone staying the night before in Vancouver? We booked the Pan Pacific so I think all we do is walk down and get on. Can't be easier than that I don't think.

I'm with you. I'm hoping the early April cruisers will post detailed reports before we leave so we know a little about what to expect. We've only done the 4 night Bahamas/CC cruise so this is all new to us.
We're lucky that we can just drive up the day of the cruise and don't have to worry (for once) about packing light for the airline weight limits. I've already made a preliminary packing list, but I keep adding to it. I keep thinking of more that I might want to bring as I read about the Alaskan weather and ports, but I figure as long as I remember a warm, waterproof coat, my camera and some binoculars it will be a great cruise.

We are staying at the Fairmont Pacific Rim the night before. It is so nice not to have to worry about suitcase. Our local airline still allows 2 pieces per person. Love it

Dawncala,
Thinking you are really near where I am. If we just pack for this weeks weather here, we should be good in 2 months there.
The first Alaska cruise is May 3rd, only 3 weeks before ours. I am truly hoping to learn more then.
I also repeat the offer for anyone driving from Seattle to Vancouver that is staying a few days to act as tourguide the weekend before the cruise.
In a weird twist of fate, a teacher at school for a unit on the Klondike Gold Rush had a family emergency so I am now teaching that class. I called up to Skayway to request a teacher packet and get some info- so I picked her brain.
We are planning about 4 hours just for visiting the National Park and doing the short walking tours in town.
The ranger I spoke to said that Mendenhall can be seen in an hour or you could spend all day there doing longer hikes.

ok heres the brush.. We waited too long to book the airline.. We though we were going to drive but the cost of gas and wear and tear on the car has ruled that out.. What I need is some info on the train or bus out of Seattle on the 23.. We can save quite a bit of moola by going by Southwest instead of to Vancouver.. Any help on this would deeply be appreciated..Thanks a bunch

I told the system http://soundtransit.org you wanted to go from SEATAC and arrive at Amtrak- King Street station at 6pm
You can choose arrival or depart times. I based it on being there 45 minutes before train. You might need a different arrival time at the train station
The good thing about Seattle is there is a barista on every corner so while you are walking there are coffee stands everywhere.
This amtrak station has checked luggage so you might be able to do that and go get a coffee.
Allow 45 minutes to transfer this way
5:12 to 5:45 light rail $2.50 each
plus walking .3 miles to Amtrak
or 1 hour 10 minutes
4:49 to 5:15 bus 1
5:26 to 5:57 bus 2
to get to the train station $5.25 each
Hubby did the light rail bus this summer with no problem pulling his luggage.
No idea on cab fare.
What times are you looking at for flights coming in?
We haven't decided the drive versus take the train idea yet. Our train would actually cost more than yours and would be a much shorter ride.
I dread arriving in Vancouver at 11 pm at night, but also not fond of 11:40 am and then having to do customs. It really comes down to do I want to hotel it the night before or not. Of course I could do that anyway if we drive.
Maybe we go the night before by car, get checked in and run a DISboard minivan service to the hotel? Hmmm. where are you staying? We could do train station pickup up in Vancouver.

For how to get there from the airport this gives a good explanation
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g60878-s301/Seattle:Washington:Arriving.And.Departing.html
(note: the end of the Light Rail line(LINK) is at Westlake Center.
There are hotels at Westlake and it makes a great base of operations. (but they are not by Amtrak)
From Westlake you can walk 4 blocks to Pike Street Market to watch them throw the fish. Westlake itself is a shopping mall if you need any last minute clothes items.
DOwn a few more stairs and you are on the docks. The Seattle Aqurium is here. Local species makes it unique to others I have visited.
Also from Westlake you can take the monorail to the Seattle Center----Space Needle, Pacific Science Center, Experience Music Project and the Duck Tour
Westlake is on the Northern edge of the free bus area in downtown.
How practical is it to take the free buses?
Without luggage, pretty easy. Enough that we go downtown on the commuter train for school fieldtrips with 65 plus kids and use the the buses.
From Westlake:
You can take free buses to Pioneer Square for the Underground Tour, Klondike Gold Rush National Park.
King Street Station is near this area. I would cab it from the hotel to Amtrak on account of the luggage.
There are Starbucks everywhere- the original starbucks is located here. Personally, being from the east coast I don't like Starbucks (:offtopic:) I find it very bitter. So I go to Tully's instead-- not as many but still good.
Favorite things to do:
North
Space Needle- only go up if the weather is clear. Beautiful vistas make it worth it.
Ride the Ducks- they give a great tour, even the locals like to do this one over again.
Pacific Science Center (kids)
Central
Pike Street Market- a must do, but not sure why, we always take out of towners there and they love it.
Pioneer Square
Underground Tour- kids and adults alike enjoy it. A lot of history presented in a way it is one of THE most requested field trips by the kids. A MUST DO. does involves stairs as it is all down one flight of stairs to Old Seattle
Klondike Gold Rush National Park-Seattle Unit much cooler than it sounds as a lot of the Gold rush really started here.
Things to skip:
Experience Music Project
unless you must see the guitar of some famous musician, skip it. It's a bit overpriced- I was glad I was there on field trip discount as even that was high.
One exception--you are a science fiction fan, then the free science fiction tv/movie museum makes it worthwhile.
Other exception- you have to see the outfits the Supremes wore.
Kids like the making music section and the broken guitar sculpture.
NWmom

Okay on that site you can select hotels by area. I put in Pioneer square and two came up.
The Marriot would allow you to take light rail to within a block or two (downhill walk.)
Then you are only a few blocks from the Amtrak King Street Station
For those just taking Light rail to to Amtrak use the International District- Chinatown You are trhen about 2 blocks from King Street Station
Also from Westlake you could take the lightrail to that station as well and avoid the cab.
http://www.marriott.com/hotels/maps/travel/SEAPS?scid=20110310t170101000002&pid=corptbta
Putting this link in as it shows the local of the train station, light rail(LINK), the M is the hotel. You can grab and move the map to go north to Westlake. Find the lightrail station, look for Pike Street and go west (Pike Street Market is at the end) DOwn the stairs is the Seattle Aquarium. There is elevator access, but you have to ask for directions.
Follow 4th ave as it heads north. It will take you to the Seattle Center (the gray shaded areas with the words Key Arena and McCaw Hall are labeled) This is where the Space Needle, The Duck Tours, Science Center etc are located, also an Imax Theatre.

WE bit the bullet and booked our flight into Vancouver today.. We tried every way we could to really make it work but the times just were not there.. We are flying Air Canada into Toronto to change planes into Vancouver, then on the way back we go through San Francisco and change to Virgin Atlantic back To Dallas.. This works as the hotel we are at the night before has a shuttle from the airport and to the cruise terminal.. Afterwards we are hoping to stay at one of Disney's exchange resorts in Vancouver for 4 days afterwards but, I do have a backup hotel if they don't come through.. I want to thank everyone for their help in trying to get me straightened out.. I will update the list Manana . Doing pretty good after my surgery and started today with some real food but, only very small portions..:rotfl: Hope to be back up to speed by the cruise.. I saw someone on the Passporter web site today who is on the cruise and will invite them to the website as soon as I can..

Space needle is a must see.
If you are asking about Vancouver, I have been to the Vancouver Aquarium.
Piece of trivia, many years ago The Disney Channel had a show "Danger Bay" that was filmed there so it was neat to see the actual aquarium.
I am not a Vancouver expert at all, although I do know my way from a few places in that area. There is a good thread on Vancouver that some locals started hre on the boards.

Does anyone else belong to CruiseCritic's message boards? There's some good active threads there for information and reviews that I've been picking through to try to get more of a lay of the land. I see Heard02 and two others with user names I don't see on our list - anyone else here and there too?

I was convinced by the description to do the railroad. We were trying how to work that out with Liarsville without the meal.
Then we saw they had a combo- one way train and doing the trail camp on the way back.
Too many fun things to do in Juneau still reworking that one.
Doing the Disney exclusive Lumberjack show in Ketchikan and hoping they have a log rolling contest between Donald and Goofy. (which I know will not happen as they would get wet.)
How about the meet and great? Any ideas?
Skye- lives close enough she will bring too many clothes as a sacrifice so she can leave the laundry room to others that are flying in :laundy:

Thought I would re-post the list again.. Sorry Steph as I also think that was weird of how I dropped you off somehow or another.. I was hoping that we could meet in the promenade lounge on deck 3.. it is open, it has a bar, it has table and chairs.. There is no guarantee that it will not rain when we leave port.. We could meet before the boat drill about 2 PM or so.. If we meet after the boat drill the folks on first dinner need time to prepare with the kids, and they will end up rushing.... Anyone who would like to share a table it can also be arranged.. Just send me a pm. I can call Disney guest services and all they require is your ressie number and the number in your party.. We are eating at second sitting. Hope all are doing well..

I have a question about meal seatings.
We are on second seating. What does that look like for meal times?
We have early port activities and wondered.
I know for breakfast and lunch we can opt out and do the buffet, but was curious about what the times would be for meals if we decided to just eat in the full service.
Any experience out there?

Hi All:dance3:
Yes, the second seating does start at 0830 but, I don't know if they will do anything new on this cruise or not.. Hopefully someone on an earlier cruise will post a daily program for us to give us some idea of the activities and food times.. Susan, I have tried to find you also and there are several listed.. I tried to locate through the MD but it will not show that unless you are a friend already.. Give me a hint as to the picture.. Also I play the FV and so-on..Look forward to hopefully finding you on FB..

Is anyone else GTY? If so, have you gotten your room assignment yet?
Hi All..:cool1:
I need your last name Diannah as there are hundreds with your first nameAlsore you in the picture alone?
Yes we have a room of 7136, we got a handicapped room which is in the back of the ship but also is larger than the other rooms.. I have tried to put room numbers at the end of the name post when someone post them.. We have also completed our online checkin through Disney.... I would think everyone with a room number would be GTY.. As soon as you respond back I will try to find you on FB..Alrready made my door signs through Print Shop and have most of my magnets done.. Need to bring up my signs on photo paper. I then glue a clear page holder to a larger foam pad which I put magnetic tape to the back and can change out the pics as many times as I want.. I will post some as soon as I get back into my photo account.. The area around the pics on the foam I decorate with stickers of Mickey and such.. It is fun to see them.. I also have ears and such for the porthole on the door which I can send to anyone who wants them, I put the ears on magnetic paper and then cut them out..:dance3:..

Do we have the "rules" for the FE yet? I think we're going to participate, but don't know that we can handle gifts for everyone everyday. Are we doing daily or one per cruise gifts? Or are we winging it?
Do we need one FE pouch per person and do we need to label which belongs to whom? (Haven't done this before, can you tell?:rotfl: ) I've read on other threads that some FE's have been disappearing. I'm wondering if making each pouch with a closure (like a drawsting pouch or even a buckle closure) would help with that? Just starting to think about all of this at this point.
What sort of things are the usual type gifts? We're not drinkers, so shot glasses don't really interest us. What else do people tend to do?

I know other people already responded about dinner times but, from your post, it sounds like you might need more info. Assigned seating at a specific time only applies to dinner. You are free to eat at any restaurant any time for breakfast & lunch & snacks throughout the day, provided that restaurant is open. (The daily navigator will list what time each restaurant is open each day.) If you are unable or just don't feel like making it to your assigned seating for dinner, you are free to eat upstairs with open seating instead (on the Magic, the restaurant is called Topsiders - I can't remember what it's called on the Wonder :confused3). I hope that helps! --Amy
Hi all:cool1:
As far as the FE's go there are really no rulespirate:.. My DW bought some Mickey Green material and but 2 pockets on then made a little loop at the top and we got a dowel which we then attached a ribbon to hang outside the room on the note hanger:wizard:.. We then put our DISer name on the pockets with the craft glitter inks from a craft store:3dglasses..The gifts I think are more for the kids:thumbsup2, but we did do one for everyone who participated for the adults:cool2:.. You would be surprised what all we got.. One year we got a glass Mickey serving plate, shot glasses, and I think the little things from the dollar store for the kids..Bubbles, glasses, little do-dads.. It is fun to come back or wake up to something new in your FE.The first year they had the Pirate night I had 3 bags of beads and handed them out at the party.. Kids and parents thought I was part of the Disney crew with our outfits on.. Not this time though ( We lived in Florida then and drove to Cocoa Beach):drive:.. We have to search for the FE now or make a new one soon.. Hope that helps everyone on the FE:grouphug:.. Even leaving something for your own family is fun also..
Bye for now

It looks like we only have a few under the teen age and that will be simple to gift for..:santa:If everyone on the "3 Hour tour Cruise" would please just post with a yes or nor for having a FE.,I will put it on the list behind the names.. The last group we did this with tried to bring something that pertained to their home state. Maryland is known for Old Bay seasoning so I gave sample packs to each cabin (not happening this time :)). Magnet from home. Some even went as far as to make magnets with each person in the cabins name on them. It can be as simple as you want any little thing is a nice surprise.

Hey, that's my original homestate. We've moved a lot so I claim many hometowns.
Ok, so-- would it be bad form to bring Old Bay with us for seasoning the bland (without OB) seafood?
Someone in my family really wanted to do this, lol. I've converted hubby to Maryland Bluestone, but do have to admit it is a lot less work to eat Dungeness than Maryland Bluestone. But less fun.
Hmm, off to think what we could bring.

I understand Hollow Leg Syndrome. Our youngest is a 17-year-old boy, too. You also have the option to order room service any time of the day (room service is included in the price of your cruise! - minus tips & certain drinks). In your stateroom there will even be a paper for you to check off what you want for breakfast and what time you'd like it brought to your room. Just hang it on your doorknob before you go to bed and voila!:wizard: Breakfast is served :) We did this every night in order to have coffee available when I woke up. There are no coffee makers in the staterooms and you do NOT want to be around me before I've had a cup! :scared1: --Amy

Are there any rules for the FE's themselves? Like they can't be bigger than so-n-so or can't stick out farther than so many inches from the wall? I have a few ideas, including drawstring bags or Treasure chests made out of foam core or foam sheets, but need to know if there are any limitations first. It seems from the pics that traditional FE's are flat pocket/envelope types, but I've never really been one for following tradition too closely. :rotfl:
Thanks!

I think they can only be 8 inches wide - otherwise they won't fit in the space. Other than, that I think the only thing that restricts you is your imagination!

Do you have to have a real fish extender, or can you just decorate a gift bag or something and hang on the fish. I am much more excited aobut making and giving out gifts than actually making or buying a fish extender.

I've seen pictures of decorated canvas and fabric bags... If your gift bag is really sturdy and the handle long enough, it should be fine. :)

I've been away from this thread too long. I had to catch up on the last couple of months. We won't be participating in the FE. I'll have too much to keep up with having my parents and parents-in-law along on this trip.
Oh, btw, my DMIL & DFIL are celebrating their 50th anniversary less than a month after our trip. I think the trip is their gift to each other. We're having a party for them on the Saturday after we get back from the cruise.
Between a graduation party for my son and this anniversary party, I'll be busy until the day we leave for Vancouver. I haven't had much spare time to plan this cruise but I'm going to try to book a hotel for the night before the cruise today.
See you all real soon,
Lori

Yes, Seattle!!!!!!
First though was drats!! Out of Seattle would have been so much easier this year for so many with airfare.
Second thought was one extra stop, pitty party for us.
Third thought was- they won't get the inside passage all the way up that we will travel--poor them.
For the record-- it will be a different cruise as they would have to travel to the west of San Juan Island. It would not be an inside passage cruise.
Think a wide westerly approach avoiding all the pesky little islands in Canadian waters while you head north. Much quicker which is why they can add Victoria, BC to the itinerary.
Victoria is beautiful and has a real castle for the princesses and a fantastic high tea!
And gives me an edge to maybe do a last minute cruise next summer for not so much money. But my hubby wants to go to New York.
Catch a broadway show--See the Ellis Island/Statue of Liberty (again, - his sister used to work there.)
Disney trivia connection- The long wig from Splash was left in the staff lounge- sis told off Ron Howard after she locked up the wig, holding up production as she was promised they would not go in the staff lounge. They didn't do it again!!)
Of course this is all after we catch the leprechaiun and have him give us some of his pot of gold, lol.

Sound like a nice group of FE. I will do a door magnet or two just to decorate and make it easier to find our way home!

OMG!!! I'm desperately trying to figure out how I can afford the 15-night Hawaiian cruise!! THAT is awesome! :cool1: Going on that cruise next year could off-set the pity-party I've got goin on about the Alaskan cruises sailing from Seattle next year compared to the cost of our international flight for this one. Oh well... Consider us pioneers!

I thought the EXACT same thing - would have saved a bundle cruising out of Seattle vs Vancouver! I wonder if that is why they changed it because they thought not as many people sailed Alaska since that airfare was so high. I know I almost did not. And I am only flying solo!
And the Pacific Coast cruises do sound great, ESPECIALLY Hawaii!

Hi All:cool1:
They must of gotten an ear full from Disney Customers as to the problems associated with traveling to another country and then sailing to Alaska.. I do like the thought of the inside passage as that will be great for scenery.:wizard: Looking forward to meeting everyone and have we all agreed for a 2:00pm or 1400 meet at the promenade lounge?:dance3:I just would like a show of hands or pixie dust as to your participation.. We're are really excited to be sailing with everyone, especially my mom and dad, who you have already met (disnanny). What's even more exciting is finally we get to go on a cruise so close to home! Meet and greet at 2:00pm or 1400 will be a good time as you have to be in place for the lifeboat drill usually by 4:0pm or 1600.. Not sure yet of the time on the Alaska cruise yet but we can change it if the times are different for the boat drill..Yes a second meet and greet is great, especially if someone has a concierge room. We can all decide on the time when we meet as we should think of Wednesday at sea..As soon as we can see a navigator posted it should give us more options around scheduled events..
Lets just go ahead with the meet and greet time for now.. We can always put a sticky note in your FE for the future time if unable to make it on Tuesday due to time constraints..

Let me ask your opinion. We have a reservation at the Renaissance Harbourside Hotel on Hastings. At the time I made the reservation the price was good for US Federal Government rate but now it's up, almost $200 per night. I was looking at Sutton Place and it looks like they are comparable in price. I like that it's sort of in the middle of downtown. Have you stayed there before? It seems like the Harbourside is off the beaten path. What about transporation to the port? Just wondering what others think.

I haven't stayed there before but friends have as well as many of the locals that post in the Vancouver thread.

I should clarify that we are at La Grande Residence Vancouver at Sutton Place. (full kitchen if you are staying more than a day. and only about 20 more than the regular rooms)
It seems to be in the center of things to do. One block off Robson. go to expedia.com and put in the search, you can map it to see where things are.
Ok Renaisance Harbourside is about 3 blocks from Canada Place (in the good direction) along the water. (to the left of Canada Place)
My hotel is about 6 blocks away from the water, but closer to things to do. Both are a cheap cab ride to Canada Place.
My hotel is currently cheaper than yours on expedia, but you have another way to book so check there.
Also I found that if you used www.aaa.com - put in Vancouver near Canada Place you limit the search to those closest. Then you can select 5 hotels and select Map it and it gives you a good comparison by showing you all at once.
Also prices are cheaper tonight than when we were looking this weekend.

That is what I was thinking. If anything they change yearly and that is if the per diem changes for that area.
Yes, it was one price when I booked it and now it's showing another and when I called the higher is what they told me it was.
What to do :confused3 Well, I have a few weeks to decide. Maybe I'll turn it over to the young adults.

Picked up our amtrak (train) tickets yesterday. This is what the agent told us so I am passing it along.
They do a preborder screening when you buy your tickets. You have to show your travel documents and the info is entered in the computer. Make sure they spell your name correctly for each member of the party on each direction of the tickets. (took three times to get everyone's names right on all tickets.) Next time I will just do it online, but I wanted the kids to see the station.
Make sure you have your tickets and ids on you as you move about the train, they can be checked at any time.
Heading northbound-
please arrive at least 30 minutes early.
Plan on time for customs after you exit the train in Vancouver.
Heading southbound-
arrive at the station 60 minutes early. They lock the gates, behind you before the train leaves.
You fill out paperwork for crossing the border at that time. I think he said they screen bags at that time as well.
Then the train will stop at the border for a passport check. Make sure kids are with the parent that has their id when you cross the border at Blaine. US officials will go through the train and check IDs.
They did allow people to carry in their drinks from the coffee vendor.
And most impoortantly. YOUR TICKETS ARE ACTUAL TICKETS, DO NOT LOSE THEM OR YOU WILL HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER SET.
And if you are heading north on Sunday, take the morning train- it is half the price of the evening train right now.

Hi All:cool1:
Been absent fromt he list for awhile and haven't even been on the computer as I have been laid up fpor over a week.. I had a syncopal episode (passed out) and struck the kitchen counter when I fell.. I was feeling a little weird before I passed out and was trying to get to the sink in the kitchen and the next thing I knew I woke up on the kitchen floor in a weird position. i crawled to my daughters room and woke her up where she helped me to a chair in the living room.. She wanted to take me to the ER but I would not consent.. we found both my knees bloody ( just scrapes) without any obvious breaks.. I had a terrible bruise on my left forearm with alot of pain but no apparent fracture.. My right upper arm had caught the counter top going down and had all kind of pretty patterns on it.. I also had pain on the right side of my chest and probably had some rib bruising but without apparent fractures. My head had a huge goose egg but again being an old retired paramedic I denied it all.. No hospital for me dude.... I was pretty banged up and was on pain med for 3-4 days and today is the first day of being up and around again.. Yes I have passed out before but usually have some idea of what is happening to me and sit down.. Doctors think I have Autonomic Hypotension(which means they have no idea),,lol Trying to catch up with the forum now..

We should definately cut off the FE at 30 days.. That will give us all time to focus in on getting what we need and PACKING:banana: If you don't make the meet and greet on the first day you don't need to worry as we will schedule a nother on probably the first day at sea..I think name tags are great if you want to make them for everyone.. Last cruise I go button pins from Micheals and put DIS mickey ears in them with the date of the cruise in the ears and you DIS board name in the the face area.. I had several who didn't even pick them up.. I for one would like one and hopefully others on the grou;p will join in to get one too. Please advise on the post as to your participation for a nametag so the person doing them gets a count and can do them as soon as possible.:idea:Squid no jokes abou the Kool Aid as I was at French Geana when I was a load master on a c141 in the Air force and ferried bodies back from Jim Jone's encampment..Just kidding about the koll Aid dude,:headache:as it doesn't bother me anymore.. OK 33 days out..Wish I could have gotten to you before you booked your room as we are staying our night before at the Super 8 as they have a shuttle from the airport to the hotel. We are just sleeping there that night and found out they are now owned by Wyndam resorts.:cheer2:We are staying afterwards for 4 days at the Sheraton Wall and will do the Tourist thing then.. Yes that's right a "3 Hour Alaskan Tour" (Gilligan's Island theme in the Background) lol:scared1:Maybe we should have a movie night to watch the Posieden movie (spelling may not be actual size)..:woohoo: Welcome to the newbies to the groupd and carry on..
