Yay for the Mitten state :yay:

I got to eastern michigan university. What colleges/universities does everyone attend?

And also, who plans on driving down? I know I'm flying for sure. That 16 hour drive isn't easy I've heard! Although, I kind of want to experience driving so far south. Who knows...

I recieved my thank you email. Now only 4-6 weeks left, but HOPEFULLY SOONER :littleangel:

I will be driving down there- the drive isn't bad at all- my bf and I plan on leaving around 5 or 6 in the evening and just driving all night- smooth sailing and no traffic- he's done it once already.
I flew down for my first CP but drove back up and it was pretty awesome going through the mountains!! :cloud9:
Oh and I go to Schoolcraft in Livonia :rotfl:

I've heard Michigan's are similar in temperature but snowier (or at least they are in Kalamazoo).

I've actually heard that Chicago's are colder, but that's based on what people have told me, not actual facts. In Kalamazoo, you're probably going to get some lake effect snow. We get snow on over here on the eastern side of the state as well (it probably snowed 5-6" 3-4 times last year, plus a whole bunch of 2-3" days), and there's a ton of it as you get further north (especially the UP). I'm just glad I don't have to drive in it this year :cool2:

For those thinking about driving... driving through the Smokey Mountains is really pretty. But you'll also spend a LOT of time driving through Ohio, in which there is nothing to look at. We used to drive to WDW, and I remember that the first half (we spent two days driving; after one, we'd be in Kentucky/Tenn.) seemed to drag, and the second half flew by (probably 'cause I knew we were getting really close!)

Yeah. It was pretty pathetic. We'll see how they do Thursday against the Kings.

So, my laptop died (after 6 years, boo), and now I feel like I HAVE to drive down to Disney, so I can bring my desktop. I had wanted to drive anyway because I just feel like it'd be easier to move stuff there that way, BUT, I really don't think I can keep my car down there (can't afford it), AND, nobody wants to drive with me. So, now I am not sure what to do!

I live in South Lyon, MI but work and play in Livonia. Gotta love those Wings. I love how everyone is freaking out already because they havn't had the best start. ITS OK EVERYONE! THEY'RE THE DETROIT RED WINGS!

Anyways, Driving to and from WDW is awsome! :rotfl: The sceneary is amazing if you go through the mountians. I love driving to begin with so I do have that going for me.;) If you can't stand the 20 minute drive to work every morning youre not going to like a 16 hour drive to Florida. For those who are driving I would suggest driving at night.:thumbsup2 As DisneyPrincess89 said we will leave at night, im thinking about 8 pm and drive through the night getting us there around 12 noon the next day. I find this the best way because not only do you miss rush hour there are very few people on the roads that time of the night/ morning. Something to consider. :confused3

Are you planning on driving straight through or stopping halfway? I've done both (never alone, though) and I'm not sure if I'd make it all the way without stopping overnight around Georgia or so.

We are thinking about driving straight through but playing it by ear- i'm not a long distance driver so we might have to stop halfway

That is what I am worried about as well, making the drive alone. I'm so not a long distance driver if I am by myself.. eek!

Anyone going to the Wings game on thursday?? I'll be there!! :cool1: Yay for 9 dollar tickets lol :rotfl:

AHH! I was offered (FREE) tickets to Thursdays game AND Saturdays game and I can't go to either one because I have class on Thursday and have to babysit on Saturday. I'm big time bummed! Have fun at the game!!

Though, apparently, Datsyuk and Kronwall didn't skate at practice today because of injuries. YIKES!!

And, on a computer-y note.. I want a macbook as well.. My computer that died was an ibook and my desktop is an imac. Mac all the way!

I'm a Michigander at heart ... was born in and lived the first 22 years of my life in Ann Arbor (although went to school in upstate ny).

The drive from MI to FL isn't too bad, except for that time that you have to spend in that state immediately south of Michigan. Took me about 22 hrs of driving the first time I did it (in a 24 foot rental truck), and about 19 the 2nd time (with my family)

There's a LOT of Michiganders working for WDW ... at one point, when I worked in Toontown, we had enough Michiganders to completely run the Barnstormer.

But I'm nervous for check in and getting around for those first few days. I haven't been without a car since I turned 16! :confused3 Anyone need a riding partner maybe??

It always takes FOREVER to get out of there! We park at Hard Rock cafe now and take the shuttle over. If you go inside Hard Rock, they will validate your parking so it is free, and the shuttle over to the Joe is free as well. We got out of the game and home MUCH quicker this way!

Don't worry at all. I'm sure you'll be fine. I actually just talked with my advisor about it for the first time today, and it went way better than I was expecting. She was totally supportive and thought it sounded good and like I would be able to get credit for doing it one way or another. And she thought it would not prevent me from studying abroad at all. It was so not what I was expecting, but I'm glad it seems like it'll work out. I'm sure it'll go well for you too, with K's emphasis on experiential learning (studying abroad, internships, externships). Good luck!

Yes, I was extremely worried. Pretty much I envisioned walking in and them laughing at me, so this is much better.

You should definitely be okay if there are currently students on the CP. It means someone there was willing to help make it happen!

I just got accepted to attractions the other day, and I'm crossing my fingers that my interviewer was able to get me into AK.

Hello, fellow Michiganders! :yay:

We are in Manchester, which is a small village southwest of Ann Arbor. We drive down to Florida because plane tickets are just too costly with this many people.

To us, it's Georgia that seems to drag on and on. God bless Tennessee for being such a narrow state! It's a morale boost to get through an entire state so quickly.

It's beautiful here right now. Lots of pretty leaves on the trees... although they are rapidly falling off from this rain.

I hope that everyone has safe travels! :drive:

Well, I decided to move down to FL early! Staying with family right now.

The drive down was great...it took me only 18 hours to get from Detroit to Orlando. I left home around 3:00am and had planned to stop around the middle of Georgia...but it was only 4:00pm by the time I got there so I just kept going. So, just a tip for anyone driving...get to bed early the day before the drive and leave in the middle of the night if you can...you'll beat the early morning metro-Detroit traffic and, if traffic is pretty light, you'll miss the downtown Atlanta traffic. I was shocked that I was able to get to Orlando around 9-10 pm.

Ah I actually don't start until February 1st, because I just recently applied and got accepted and that was the only day available. Cedar Point was amazing! But I'm pretty sure Disney will make CP look like the ghetto as far as housing or whatever.. but wait it's already like that!

I actually used to work at CP in 2005 and 2006 in rides. I left at the end of my contract to work for Disney in August '06 and now I fully plan on pursuing a career with Disney....if that tells you anything.

You worked at cedar point this last summer? I worked at Michigan's Adventure, which is much worse than CP, I've heard. (everyone I know seems to have LOVED CP, whereas MA wasn't that great.) I just considered it prepping for disney, haha

hey, I'm from the Flint area but now I go to school in Ann Arbor. I'm going to apply for the fall 2010 program. Can't wait!

lol, so many Michigan people probably do the CP to escape at least part of the cold months. :cold: we're supposed to get about half a foot of snow here in the next couple days.

Half a foot?! wow... Lucky! I like the snow!

We have a Blizzard warning here in Kalamazoo. We're going to get 2 inches of snow per hour every hour until tomorrow afternoon.

I just started at Kalamazoo College, so I've got awhile yet dealing with blizzards and such.

Yeah, in the 3 years I've been at WMU, this is the only one that had a snow day that was relevant to me. They had one February of last year but it was a Friday when I didn't have class anyway.

This one actually benefited me because it got a final turned into a take-home open-book exam and some extra credit assignments due that day got bumped to next Monday.

Hey michigan people, I'm driving from Muskegon, on the west side. I'm hoping I can find someone else who's going down for the 11th too? My dad won't be able to come with so convoying would be a good plan I think.

I was hoping to see a good snow before we leave for Florida...

I know right! I was hoping to get a sledding session in before we go. And also I'm really hoping we all have safe flights/drives down there. January is a dangerous month! We can always go up north to ski/snowboard. Mt. Holly before I leave for sure!!:yay:
