I've just come back from a wonderful 6 days at DLRP staying at the DCR and it was amazing as usual.

I managed to get a sneak peak at the new DCR cabins that are being installed on the Tomahawk Trail as we speak, the first of which was installed sometime on the 6th October. I don't have any pictures of the cabins as it was an accompanied visit with a CM friend of mine and out of respect I wasn't taking pictures (although the CM is fully aware that I would be posting here as soon as I came back)

Firstly the outside...the newly refurbed cabins are slightly more raised from the floor than the previous versions. They now have a large decked area with the picnic table and bbq on the decked area which is also raised.

The front door is in the same place but now has two large windows either side (kinda like patio doors that don't open) which allows loads more light into the cabin than they currently get. Through the doors you walk right into the kitchen area which now includes and oven and 4 hobs instead of the current two. The cabin I viewed also had a brand new microwave and also had a blender in the cabin too :confused3 I'm also pleased to report that they all have new cutlery etc.

The lounge is now where the bathroom and toilet was in the two bedroom cabins and no-longer (at least the one I viewed) has the double sofa bed but intead has a proper and very comfy sofa. The bathroom is now just a shower and sink which is a little dissapointing until you walk into the master bedroom...this is now the same layout as the old one but is now en-suite :woohoo:

The second bedroom now has a double bed and also the bunkbeds in them like the old style one bed cabins.

My CM friend said that this refurb will be taking the best part of a year as they are in the process of ripping out the cabins on the Tomohawk trail, transporting them off-site and then bringing them back refurbished. I do not know when these new cabins will be ready for booking however I'd imagine that they will be ready sooner rather than later as there is no way that DLRP would have most of the DCR sat empty.

As I said no pictures (I may do my own paint picture of the layout for a better idea of what's going on) and those of you who want to see this as a "rumor" are welcome to do just that...for those of you who want more concreate evuidence I guarantee that these new cabins are being installed and I will personally clean your house for a whole month for free if I'm wrong :lmao:

Here is a very childish looking picture:

Obviously it's not to scale :thumbsup2

Hmmmm....bit disappointed that there is no sofa bed anymore - on the last trip it was more comfortable than the bed (an we could split the kids up into one bedroom each).

But still, :thumbsup2 for a refurb.

I was so looking forward to this update Cap'n and I appreciate you posting this :)

But what are Disney thinking about taking out the bed settee :headache:
If this translates in all the refurbs then DCR is probably out for us and therefore any on-site experience. There is no way DD12 wants to be sharing a bedroom with DS. I am sure this aversion will increase as they get older ;)

Obviously I can join those that rave about the Marriott but frankly I think Disney has dropped the ball in what should have been seen as a good news.

Off to bang my head on the wall :badpc:

I can confirm that they do look very nice from the outside ;)

We were at DCR last week, and saw the cabins waiting to be transported away on the side of the Drive. On Friday, we saw a NEW cabin at the side, and as we got to the roundabout, I did say to my hubby that I should have taken a pic to post on here.

Obviously, we only saw it from the outside, but I can see how the cabin would be brighter inside than they are now.

I have to be honest that this new layout suits us better than last ones, as ds1 always slept on the sofa bed and ds2 has to sleep in with us as we have to keep a close eye on. These new cabins mean that we actually get a lounge area now (we could never be bothered to put the sofa bed away everyday).:rotfl: Just an after thought did you notice if the oven had a grill?:)

I thank you also for letting us in on this little rumour.;)

Thanks for that update, the layout looks great and an oven - bonus. We go in just less than 4 weeks and I have requested a cabin on Tomahawk so will post on my return as to whether we got to stay in one (fingers crossed we do :)).

Kerry xx

P.S If we do I will take pic's too.

Wow thanks for that Jon :thumbsup2 I actually loved the look of DCR for our very first trip last year but the reviews of some of the cabins being so dated etc really put me off so I'm pleased this is about to change!

It would certainly be something we would think about in the future as esp now we really have to go in school holidays. The thought of staying a bit longer (price as opposed to the DLH has to be good lol!), and maybe going on and offsite in longer summer hours really appeals :thumbsup2

Only thing I can see as a downer is if we went with Mum and Stepdad we'd have to share a bedroom with the children (but we do that now at DLH I suppose)! But on the plus side, Mum & Dad would have a bedroom as opposed to having to sleep in the lounge - also a plus as it means you have a lounge in the evening as opposed to someone wanting to go to bed when you are trying to relax etc!!

Do you know if you could fit a travel cot in the room with the bunkbeds too? I ask because I think DD2 would still be too young for a bunk next year. We couldn't really use the master as we'd need to be in the same room as DD1 in the bunk.

Tinker-ella - hope you manage to get a new cabin although it doesn't sound from Jon's thread that they are renting them just yet :confused3

Thanks for the update, we're planning on booking our first visit to DCR for early December, wouldn't it be funny if we got a new cabin :lmao: ;)
Did the lounge and TV look any better?
I must say the new layout would suit us as we're going with my Mum and it's ideal for her to have her own room with ensuite, meaning we can put the girls to bed, all stay up for a chat and chillout in the lounge. Mum can then retire when she wants and we can sneak into the double with the girls rather than pull the sofabed out everynight:thumbsup2

So the only toilet is in the master bedroom?

Hmmm....if they're anything like the existing toilets, the en-suite could soon become an en-smell!!!

The oven is a good addition....providing it gets cleaned once and a while ;)

Otherwise sounds good. Would agree with the other comments about the bed settee though :confused3

Probably not...I would imagine that I missed (or forgot as this was all done from memory) the toilet in the bathroom :goodvibes

Hello wondering if anyone has any updates on the new cabins? I am on the verge of making a booking to go to DCR in a few weeks. Is it the old 2 bed cabins that are being replaced? Or the 1 bed ones? We have always had a 2 bed one in the past and would be looking to book that again so the kids can have their own room. Is there a trail we should try and ask for? I don't want to be in the middle of a building site but if there is somewhere we should try and request then it would be good to do that. Would be appreciated if anyone had any info that might help. :yay:

It's currently the old two bed ones that are being refurbed (well it was at the beginning of October) The ones being refurbed are all in the Tomahawk Trail and the whole trail is closed off and is a building site :goodvibes

I'd be surprised if they are selling them yet and I'd be surprised if the person you book with even knows if they are being refurbed...but if you want to take a chance then request a cabin in the Tomahawk Trail and see what happens when you arrive.

Thanks for your help Cyrano and Cap n Jack. I did ask on the phone when I made my reservation today :banana:about whether they had any info on the new cabins but you were right Cap N Jack they knew nothing! Either that or they were not letting on!!! I think I may just ask customer services by way of a special request if we can be in a cabin near the centre and see what we get. I will report back after trip! :yay: If anyone visits DCR in the meantime and finds anything out I'd appreciate it!

We went on Sunday 4th Oct. I had booked a 1 bedroom cabin. I phoned the Davy Crockett the Wednesday before we left, and asked them if we could have a cabin on the Coyote or Tomahawk Trail if poss. They said they would try. When we booked in, we did indeed get on the Coyote Trail, and we were given a 2 bedroom cabin.

I used the telephone number from the Sticky Thread and when I got through, I asked if they spoke English, which they did, and they were most helpful.
