DVC Firsts
Welcome! Thank you for joining me.
Why did I choose the title DVC firsts? Well, there were many first on this trip. This was a whole new experience for us. To start off this was our first trip to Disney without our extended family. It was just the three of us. Who are we? The three of us are
DH - He comes along for the ride.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/Disney%202009/Magic%20Kingdom%20Day%202/100_2787.jpg
DS (2) - Slowly becoming a Disney enthusiast. Just the other day he told me he wants to visit Mickey again. Well, you know what that means ...
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/Disney%202009/Downtown%20Disney%20Day/100_2955.jpg
Me - I enjoy planning our Disney vacations. I am always thinking about and planning our next trip.

Us three

All three of us were very excited about the trip. We were definitely looking forward to this vacation because our lives have been very hectic. DH is in a Master’s program. He finished his 5th class right before we left. He received an “A”. That was his fifth “A” so we had something to celebrate.
The Details
Where: Beach Club Villas, MNSSHP, DVC Members Cruise, Kidani Village
When: September 11, 2009 – September 19, 2009
The Preliminaries: We became DVC Members in Feb. 2008 so, of course, we were mailed information about the 2009 Members cruise. Since we hadn’t been on a Disney cruise, let alone any cruise, since 2002, we decided this would be the perfect opportunity. I immediately jumped on the DIS in search of information and found a wonderful thread dedicated to the 2009 Members Cruise. On call-in day I was up bright and early. Phone lines opened at 9 a.m. I was anxious to get going because I read that the members cruise sells oout quickly. I used my cell phone and house phone to call in. I got through on my house phone after about an hour. I was so relieved when everything was confirmed. We were confirmed for an ocean view room (stateroom 7014).
We knew we were going to drive from MD to FL since the drive back in Feb. when we went to Disney was not bad. We decided that we would spend two days before the cruise at BCV since there would be a DIS meet prior to the cruise at BCV in the Solarium. We would then drive to Port Canaveral, board the ship, have fun, disembark, and then drive to AKV - Kidani Village. I also decided that we would attend the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party (MNSSHP) on September 11 when I discovered that DVC members get a discount on tickets. The rest we would play by ear.

We left MD on September 10, 2009. We packed the car the night before and boy was it stuffed. DH did not know where to put it all and here I thought that I packed light. :confused3 The trunk and on both sides of the DS’s car seat were filled to the brim. I am sure glad we did not fly!
We had planned on leaving at 6:00 a.m. but left at 6:30 a.m. instead which was not too bad. We decided that we would drive four hour shifts. I started the driving off and drove to NC while DH slept most of the way and DS kept me entertained for awhile but then took a nap. DH took over the driving in NC and drove to southern GA. Then I took over and drove to Orange Park, FL where we had made plans to visit our friends and spend the night. We made it to their home a little after 6:00 p.m. We had a great time with our friends.
When we woke up the next morning we were ready to head to Disney. We plugged the BCV address into our GPS, stopped for breakfast at McDs, and were on the road by 9:30 a.m. We arrived at the happiest place on earth before noon.

We went through security and by the time we reached the front of the resort, CMs were standing there to greet us. They knew our name! This vacation was off to a great start.
We were escorted to the front desk to the CCM who was doing online check-in. There was no wait. The CM welcomed us home and told us that are room was ready. We were in villa 276 – a studio. This would be our first stay in a studio and our first stay at BCV. We caught the elevator to the second floor and walked down the long hallway. It was a long trek. We finally made it to our room.

The room was very nice. It was a good size for the short stay. However, we realized that we preferred a one bedroom if we were going to stay longer. Here are some pictures of the room.

The drive went very well. DS soon is used to riding in the car, thank God. We have family in NJ, PA, here in MD, NC, and FL so we do a lot of traveling in the car on the weekends and holidays.

During our exploration, I stopped by the concierge desk to see if I could pick up our tickets for MNSSHP since the CM at check=in told us we could. We were able to get our tickets since I had the will call number. I am glad that I did. After that, we continued our exploration.

After our little exploration, we stopped by the Beach Club Marketplace looked around the store, and grabbed some lunch. I ordered a PB&J kid’s meal for DS, a ham sandwich for me, and, I believe, a turkey sandwich for DH. For desert, I picked up a Mickey shaped rice krispies treat. I also purchased a shirt for MNSSHP and for Halloween in general. Then, we headed back to the room where DH was still sleeping. DS & I ate our lunch. My sandwich was very good. DS did not eat his. It was an uncrustable. He did drink his chocolate milk and grapes. By that time, DH was awake. He ate his sandwich and said he liked it. We then put DS down for a nap around 1:30 p.m. since we knew it was going to be a late night and wanted him well rested for the party. Of course, DS did not want to go to sleep and being that we were in a studio we could not go to another room. So, DH & I just lay in the bed pretending we were taking a nap too. Eventually, DS went to sleep since he was not getting a response from us. While DS napped, DH holed up the lap top and I too tried to take a nap but couldn’t. So, I watched a little television and looked through the folder of information they gave us at check-in. Some of the activities the resort offered looked like fun. If we had a little more time, we might have participated in some.
I hope you can see this

http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Beach%20Club%20Villas/img071.jpg
I planned to leave the resort by 4:00 p.m. to get to the park early for MNSSHP. However, by the time 4 p.m. rolled around DS was still sleeping and I did not want to wake him. I decided that we would leave close to 5. I eventually had to wake DS. He was not a happy camper. It was a struggle putting on his costume. He did not like it at all. He was supposed to be Captain Jack Sparrow but DS is not into hats so we just said he was a pirate. Hopefully, he looked a little like a pirate.
Once I got DS dressed and packed a little bag for him, we headed to the bus stop. The bus to the Magic Kingdom took a little while to come. While we were waiting it started drizzling behind the bus stop but not in front of it. The rain eventually moved to the front of us but by the time the bus came it had stopped. That was one thing I was worried about. Since I had purchased discounted tickets through DVC for the party well in advance, I prayed that it would not rain that night.
Here are a few pictures from when we were waiting at the bus stop.

We arrived at the Magic Kingdom a little before 6:00 p.m. CMs were directing MNSSHP guests to the right where CMs were giving out bracelets and bags for the candy. Before we got our bags and bracelets we took a couple of pictures.

We then headed over to get our bags and bracelets. We each received a bag and bracelet. DS did not need a bracelet since he was under 2 but the CM gave him one since DS saw we had one. We proceeded inside and took some more pictures.

Before we proceeded down Main St., DS spotted a CM with hula hoops. Of course, he wanted to play with the hula hoops (something he learned in a program at school called Jump Bunch). So, we stayed there for a few minutes so he could play.

DH wanted some funnel cake and I had a hankering for it as well. DH remembered that he and his brother were able to get some near the castle when we were at MK in Feb. He led the way and we were soon in Liberty Square ordering our two cinnamon sugar funnel cakes and drinks.
Here are some pictures from the little shop where we placed our order. I believe it is called Sleepy Hollow.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/MNSSHP/100_3784.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/MNSSHP/100_3785.jpg
I have to go back a little bit. While we were in line waiting to place our order, this young man was in front of us trying to take a picture/video of the CM at the cash register. The first time he tried the video was not on so he tried again. We waited patiently and were soon able to place our order. We then sat down and he sat near us. He started talking to us and asked if we were staying for the MNSSHP. We told him that we were and that this was a first time at the party. He further asked if we were planning on riding any rides before the party. We told him we were if we were able to. He then gave us 6 FPs for any ride that used FPs and the FPs did not expire until Sept. 15, 2009. He then proceeded to tell us that the best place to watch the parade during MNSSHP was in Frontierland and the best place to watch the fireworks was on Main St. He also told us to stay for the second parade because while other people are watching the first parade, the lines for the rides and characters are usually lighter. He told us that MNSSHP had the best fireworks and parade. We thanked him profusely for his kindness. I asked him his name and I believe he said it was Ben. He was just getting off of work. So, CM Ben “thank you.” He gave FPs to two other ladies sitting near us since it was one lady’s birthday. They did not want to accept them but he told them to take them anyway. After he left, they in turn gave the FPs to us since they were leaving the park and it was their last day at DW. We thanked them as well. While we were eating, we heard a spooky voice announcing that MNSSHP would be starting in thirty minutes.
After eating our funnel cakes and relishing in the Disney Magic, DH stated that he wanted to see the Hall of Presidents. Since we were not far, we headed over there. When we arrived, the doors were opening for the next show that was about to begin. Score! DH rushed to park DS’s stroller and we all headed inside. The show was very nice. It was amazing to see all the presidents on the stage. The animatronics were great.
When we left the Hall of Presidents, we proceeded to Fantasyland. By that time, the party was about to start, the spooky voice was telling us so. CMs were also checking to see if we had the purple bracelets. By the time, we got to Fantasyland the party was starting. CMs were handing out candy. We were able to get our first candy of the evening much to DS’s delight. By the time I put my bag on his stroller, he had reached into his bag and bit into a chocolate. The paper was still on it! I wish I had taken a picture. I took the wrapper out of his mouth and allowed him to finish eating what was left of the chocolate.

The first characters we saw were Donald and Daisy. They were about to lead the crowd in dancing. Of course, DS wanted to join in.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/MNSSHP/100_3786.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/MNSSHP/100_3787.jpg
They were not signing autographs but were taking pictures. The Photopass photographer was not there though. It was very entertaining. The DJ was very good.
After running around with DS on the dance floor, I asked DS if he wanted to ride Dumbo which seemed to be his favorite ride back in Feb. He did. So, we walked over to Dumbo and were able to hop on. We rode Dumbo twice.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/MNSSHP/100_3788.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/MNSSHP/100_3789.jpg
Since DH was not able to get a picture of DS while riding Dumbo (DS had to sit on the inside of the ride), we went over to the stationary Dumbo and snapped some pictures.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/MNSSHP/100_3790.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/MNSSHP/100_3794.jpg
From a distance, we saw that Tigger and Pooh were out in the costumes and then Piglet came out. DS did not want to stand in line for their autographs. He wanted to play in Pooh’s playful spot. This was DS’s night.
Brief aside: In February, I had planned out the entire trip and was somewhat disappointed when things did not go as planned. For this trip I did not do much planning. My motto was “Go with the Flow.”
DS had a ball in Pooh’s Playful Spot.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/MNSSHP/100_3796.jpg
Once he was done there, we headed over to Mickey’s Toontown Fair. On our way, we saw all of the seven dwarfs. They were hamming it up for the cameras.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/MNSSHP/100_3797.jpg
We spent most of the evening here and in Fantasyland. We did not ride many rides. I did notice, however, that there were no lines for most of the rides. Many appeared to be walk-ons.
In February, Mickey was being very elusive coupled with the fact that DH did not want to stand in line for Mickey. This trip I was determined that we would see Mickey. But first, DS wanted to ride the train better known as the Barnstormer. At first I was surprised he wanted to ride it but then I remembered his recent fascination with trains. I told DS that I did not know if he would be able to ride since this ride has a height minimum. Well, to my surprise, he was tall enough. My little baby is growing up. DS was able to ride his first roller coaster.
I stood in the entranceway to let him watch it and hear the sound it made. He was still up for the challenge so we walked right up and hopped on. Going up the first hill was startling for him and he told me he wanted to get out. But, once we went down the hill he was fine. He wanted to ride again but Mommy was feeling a little dizzy.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/MNSSHP/100_3798.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/MNSSHP/100_3799.jpg
After the ride, we were off to see some characters. I wanted to see the fairies but mistakenly hopped in line for the princesses. The line was not too long. I believe we were the second or third in line. The CM allowed only a few in at a time. The fairies line was a lot longer but still it did not look too bad.
DS about to meet his first princess (Mommy is the queen)

DS was not in the mood to see any princesses but I was all smiles.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/MNSSHP/Image10.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/MNSSHP/Image11.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/MNSSHP/Image12.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/MNSSHP/Image15.jpg
I did not press my luck with the fairies though. We were off to find Mickey & Minnie and to get some more candy. First, we went to find Minnie. While getting ready to go into Minnie’s house, we saw Alice running around the street looking for someone. She was very animated. Once Alice disappeared, we toured Minnie’s house http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/MNSSHP/100_3804.jpg but she wasn’t inside, she was standing in her garden gazebo. We waited in line for approximately 10 minutes.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/MNSSHP/Image16.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/MNSSHP/Image19.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/MNSSHP/Image22.jpg
Now, it was time to find Mickey. He too was standing out in his courtyard surrounded by his garden. The wait was not too long, again, about 10 minutes. While we were standing in line, Mickey needed a cheese break but he was back in less than a minute. He sure eats fast.

Since it was getting close to fireworks time, we headed towards Main St. via the Alice in Wonderland trail (the trail that leads from Toontown to Tomorrowland) getting candy all the way. Now, I have neglected to mention, until now, that though it did not rain, it was pretty humid out. We had stopped to get some water since I forgot our water bottles. But, by the time we started walking this trial I was not feeling well. The humidity was kicking my butt and I began to feel dizzy. I stopped along the trail to regain my composure and to finish up the rest of the water. The water hit the stop but I knew I would need more. I was glad I was holding on to the stroller. We eventually made it to the end of the trail. I was feeling a little better when I spotted a photo op and had to stop for pictures.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/MNSSHP/Image32.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/MNSSHP/Image33.jpg
Once we made it to Main St. we realized that we were not only thirsty but hungry. DH went to Casey’s Corner to order some food while DS & I went to look for a seat. There were no tables available around the restaurant but I did find a bench on the porch in front of Crystal Palace. I called DH to tell him where we were and while we were waiting for DH I change DS since he was hot. In no time he returned with 2 orders of corn dog nuggets, fries, and 2 sodas. That really hit the spot. The fireworks started while we were eating. Turns out the benches were a great spot to see the fireworks and plus we had a seat.
The fireworks were fantastic and the castle was pretty. DS was amazed. I tried to get some decent pictures but my camera does not do any justice to what we saw.

After the fireworks were over, we headed over to Frontierland, via Adventureland, collecting candy all the way. DS was not in the mood for riding in rides. I could tell he was getting tired. However, when we arrived in Frontierland, he seemed rejuvenated. I think it was because he saw hula hoops and wanted to play. We positioned ourselves near Splash Mountain then DS and “I went over to where the hula hoops were.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/MNSSHP/100_3830.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/MNSSHP/100_3831.jpg
Once CMs began roping off the area, we moved back to our position to watch the parade. We were right near Splash Mountain. We could see people coming down the hill. We were standing near the start of the parade so we were able to see the people coming out of the gate. First, came the headless horseman. I tried to snap a good picture but …
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/MNSSHP/100_3835.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/MNSSHP/100_3836.jpg
Did you see him? He wasn’t going too fast but my camera does not do too well at night. I did not take too many pictures. Here are a few.

The parade was great. The graveyard diggers and the dancers were wonderful. And, since we were near the ropes, we received candy from the CMs at the end of the parade.
Once the parade was over, we headed towards the bus stop. Since we had only been collecting candy in two bags I started collecting candy in the third bag. DH thought we had enough and did not need anymore; but, one can never have too much candy.
By the time we reached the front of the park, the parade was winding down. We waited outside the gates on benches until the crowd headed towards the buses died down. While we were waiting, I collected more candy from the CMs standing outside the gate.
The bus ride home was uneventful. DS almost fell asleep during the ride. Needless to say, he was very tired. We headed to our room and immediately fell asleep. The next day, I took a picture of our loot.

Overall, we enjoyed MNSSHP. We had fun and the crowds were low. Once DS gets a little older, we would go back and experience more rides.

I enjoyed reading your MNSSHP report, and seeing your pictures. It's a great party, isn't it? Your DS really held up well!
We've enjoy sitting in the same area to see the fireworks. Sometimes having a seat is worth missing some of the fireworks due to trees, at least for me, it is.

This is a great TR. It brings back fond memories for me as well. We were at the same MNSSHP the same night you were there. It was fantastic.
We were also on the DVC Member cruise. Isn't it funny how there are so many people on the cruise that you never even see? With all of us on the ship for 4 days you would think we would run into each other at some point...but that is just not true!
I look forward to our report on the cruise & Kidani portion. I am staying tuned...:surfweb:

The cruise portion of my TR will be coming up soon. This was our second cruise on DCL but might has well been our first since we last cruised in 2002. We had a blast. I am sure you will enjoy your cruise. If you have any questions, please ask.

After a good night’s rest we woke up refreshed and ready for the day. DH had hoped to take DS to the pool but it was raining. After getting dressed, we went downstairs for our 10:20 a.m. reservation at Cape May Café. When we arrived, I was shocked to see how many people were in the lobby and in line for breakfast. DH wondered if we would be able to see the characters. I assured him he would be and asked the CM to be certain. She assured us the characters would be around even after 11:00 a.m. We got our buzzer and took a seat. In no time we were being buzzed and were seated.
While I went up to get DS’s food, Goofy was making his rounds at our table. DH was on the ball he took a picture of Goofy and had him sign the autograph card.

I returned with DS’s plate and my plate but he was not interested in the food. He wanted to meet more characters, especially Donald.

DS was able to visit with the characters at least twice and each time one would leave he would have a conniption. He loves the characters and the one on one interaction. One thing I did not like, however, was the interruptions. In one instance, Minnie was making her way over to a table to wish a little girl a happy birthday and she kept being stopped by parents and teenagers asking for a picture and/or autograph. The waitress had to step in and tell them that Minnie would make her way to their table. One person commented that she had finished eating and she wanted to take a picture with Minnie; but, she did go back to the table.
After a delicious breakfast, we walked around the hotel a little bit, checked out our Photopass pictures from the previous night, and then went back to our room since it was still raining. Once we were in the room we relaxed by watching a little television. We tried to get DS to take a nap but he wouldn’t. I wanted him rested before our DIS Meet at 3:00 p.m. However, that was not going to happen. While we were waiting for the DIS meet to begin, DH’s father called to see if we were in town. He wasn’t sure if he had the right weekend. Now, I had told DH to call his father to let him know we would be in town but he did not. Now, he was on the phone explaining why he did not call. After his explanation, we made a date to meet up with DFIL and DMIL between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. After getting off the phone with his father, DH took a nap. Now, once he is asleep it is hard to wake him but I had to. After some cajoling, we were finally ready to go downstairs to the Solarium.

Can't wait to read about the Dis meet! :flower3:
You are so welcome. I am glad I was able to bring a little bit of MNSSHP to you.
My next post will be about the Dis Meet.

I'm glad you enjoyed it so much, too!!!

DS certainly enjoyed himself. He was so tired afterwards. We loved the fireworks and DS wasn't afraid of the loud noise which was a bonus.

I'm enjoying your trip report. Thank you! We were at that night's MNSSHP party too. We then went on a 7 night Disney Cruise to Eastern Caribbean with Tortola. Maybe I'll get around to doing a trip report too. I always intend to but never do.
I especially iked seeing your pictures of BCV. That will be our next DVC stay in May. I can't wait to see and read about your Member Cruise! Thanks again for taking the time to do a trip report! :goodvibes

Hi Marsha,
I think Charles did a darn good job taking those pictures, especially of you and Corey. It's great that he loves the characters; so many young kids are really intimidated by their size. The kids are probably expecting them to be like the toys or something.
I know I keep saying this, but Charles is such a cutie!
MNSSHP was a good time. We went after the cruise, not the night you were there, unfortunately. We liked BCV a lot too; would almost consider getting points there.

Thank you for taking the time to read my report and leave a comment. I would love to read about your Eastern Caribbean cruise. How did you like it? I had a wonderful time on the Members Cruise.
We liked BCV. I especially liked the pool and that Cape May Cafe was right there.

I was definitely amazed at some of the pictures he took. Some were of the ground and ceiling but others were very good. He is getting a toddler digital camera for Christmas. And, thank you again.
Did you dress up for MNSSHP? If you did, I would love to see some pictures.

I was looking forward to this DIS meet since I had been chatting with the members of the cruise meet thread for almost a year. Plus, this would be my first DIS Meet. DH did not understand my excitement. But to me, it was like I was going to meet old friends for the first time if that makes sense. It is amazing how much we had come to know one another just by chatting back and forth. Plus, Mary (WDWLVR) and Mark (MarkRG) did a wonderful job in establishing the DIS thread and a ’09 Members cruise webpage with pictures of some of our fellow cruisers, plus, a lot more. Thank you.
Since I had to wake DH up, we were a little late. A lot of people were already there. But, in no time I was hugging people, shaking hands, and laughing. It was great!

After chatting with some folks, we unfortunately had to leave. We went to check out some nearby restaurants at the resort since we were having dinner with the parents. It had finally stopped raining so we were able to walk outside.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Beach%20Club%20Villas/100_3911.jpg
We went to Beaches and Cream and decided that we would eat there. We saw Sue and her family from the DIS Meet there getting some food. We then stopped by the arcade and played a few games before we headed back to the room. By the time we got back and I had popped some popcorn, the parents were calling us to tell us they were in the lobby making their way up to the room.
We sat in the room for a little bit and chitchatted. Then, we headed to Beaches & Cream. After perusing the menu, we placed our order.

While we were eating, I noticed that some people at another table had just finished eating the kitchen sink. Now, I had heard a lot about the kitchen sink and how big it was. I did not see what it looked like when it came out but I did see the aftermath and that the ice cream and all of the toppings are put in a kitchen sink.

Next it was time for dessert – what we all really wanted. And, believe me it was worth the wait. DH & I shared dessert.

After a nice time in the pool and meeting a nice guy and his children (whom we gave the FPs to), we went inside and prepared for our departure. In the words of DS – “Mickey’s ship” here we come.

Marsha, how did you enjoy Beaches n Cream? We'd gone over to Biergarten that night; it was quite good. We didn't make it to the quiet pool until that Friday after the cruise, but it was lovely.
No, we didn't do costumes for the MNSSHP, we just went as our own curmudgeonly selves ;) .

I enjoyed Beaches & Cream. It was a nice quick meal and the food was delicious. The dessert was :cloud9:. We really did not want to do a table service. We wanted a quick meal so we could go swimming. Beaches & Cream hit the spot.
As you can see, we did not wear costumes either. We admired other people's costumes and there were some elaborate ones too.

We planned on getting to the ship around 11:00 a.m. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned. DS kept waking up during the night and ended in bed with us. When the alarm clock went off all I could do was moan. It was a slow moving morning. But, we finally got dressed and called the valet and bell services. During this time my DM called and wished us well.
We were finally on the move. The car was packed, we were all buckled up, and were about to pull off. Then, I smelled something. DS had decided to relieve himself. After a quick change, we were on our way to the gas station. Once we filled up the gas tank, we were finally on our way.
It was a quick drive to the port (except for the tolls) and these sights made it worthwhile.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_3935.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_3937.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_3939.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_3940.jpg
DH drove through the gates, pulled up to the port, helped unload the bags, and then parked the car. While DS & I waited for DH to return, we took some pictures.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_3941.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_3952.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_3956.jpg
While we were waiting, we saw the captain. I would have taken a picture but DS had the camera. Finally, DH returned and we were on our way to check-in for boarding.
The check- in process was smooth. I filled out all the paperwork before we left home. So, in no time, we had received our boarding number, number 13, and had taken our security photo. Now, since DS had not slept well, he was beginning to have a major meltdown. He was not a happy camper. He wanted to board the ship – NOW! I left DH with the bags which he was complaining there were too many of and I took DS for a tour. While walking around with DS, Minnie was out taking pictures. We hopped in line but Minnie left and out came Mickey.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/AhoyMickey.jpg
Meeting Mickey pacified DS for a little while but when we left Mickey side he had a conniption. He wanted to stay with Mickey a little longer. He was crying so that the singing pirates gave him a gold coin. That helped a little. I tried to get DS to take some more pictures but he just would not cooperate.

While walking around with DS, I met Robbie (Donald is #1) and her sister. DS would not speak but it was good seeing her. While chatting with her, our boarding number was called.:banana::yay::yay::dance3::dance3:

Finally, our boarding number was called and we were headed on board. We were given our lanyards and DVC Mickey ears. We stopped for a picture and then headed unto the ship. We were welcomed home and introduced. The first DVC related thing we saw was an ice sculptor.

We headed to Parrot Cay for lunch. However, the restaurant was full. They directed us to Beach Blanket Buffet but we did not want to go there because we did not want to lug around the bags and DS. We waited in the Promenade Lounge until our room was ready and reviewed the ship’s deck plan and the Welcome Aboard activities.

It was nearing 1:30 p.m. so we headed to our room, 7014. We took the midship elevators to the 7th floor. Of course, I snapped some pictures along the way.

Wow - they gave you some really neat goodies! Do you mind sharing what category of room you had and what you thought of it?
Every mom has been there, with a kid having a melt down right at a time that you have been looking forward to as a magical moment! Surprising to hear that the dining room was full! I have been on a few cruises (not Disney yet) and never had that happen.

We had a category 8 room which is an oceanview room with one large porthole. I have since learned that category 9 rooms are the same size room but are on decks 1 & 2. They are also less expensive. The rooms on deck 1 have two small portholes and the rooms on deck 2 have the one large porthole. We enjoyed the large porthole. DS would look out of it every day.
Anyway, we liked the room. It was very comfortable and met our needs. The stateroom attendant moved the table closer to the sofa and set up the pank 'n play in that area. When it was time for DS to go to sleep we just closed the curtains. It was also good having the split bathroom. While one was in the shower, the other could be brushing his/her teeth or sitting on the throne. :rolleyes1 There was also ample closet space since we stored our luggage under the bed. The bed was very comfortable.
I was shocked when they said the dining room was full. Of course we could have gone upstairs but like I said we carried on too much and DS was in a mood. Plus, I like the fact that the dining room attendants would bring your drinks to the table. I know for next time to arrive at the port a little earlier.

Welcome to my TR. I never thought about DS possibly being a Jedi. Now that I think about it you are right. The look we (or should I say I) was going for was Captain Jack Sparrow but DS is not into the hats/wig thing.
The cruise was WONDERful. I will have another installment tonight ... hopefully.

Yep, we were late getting ready for school today. I let dd3 sleep as LATE as possible before waking her to take dd1 to school. Guess what, full blow out! Thankfully we were still on time for school.
We'll be on a three nighter on the Wonder. We have three dds so we always thought it would be a while before we shelled out the $ on a cruise for 5 people. We are going to WDW in Jan since I have a conference in Orlando. My DMom and DDad will be with us in a 2bd at Kidani. I saw the "Kids sail free" promo and viola, we can put one of the kids in their room, and the 5 of us sail for under $1000! I'm really excited, and hope the weather is nice enough to swim at Castaway Cay at that time of year.
Can't wait for the next installment.

Great report! In reference to cat 8 versus 9, I was wondering about that myself. We have been in 9 but was wondering if there was an advantage to being in cat 8 higher up on the ship? Any input would be great for future reference. Look forward to reading the rest of your report.

We've been on decks 2, 5, 6, and 7. We've been midship and aft, port and starboard. Deck 8 is the "fancy" one since the suites are all up there, but I have to say we've liked everywhere we've stayed (I personally really liked deck 5 aft). The members' cruise that we shared w/Marsha and her family was our deck 2 experience and our first experience w/not having a veranda. Our only problem w/that was that we kept getting up late since there's no sunlight to wake you up! (What do you mean set the alarm!!??? :scared1: It's vacation!). Also as Marsha pointed out, the higher you go in the ship, the more expensive the room. For me, it's so not worth it; most of the cabins are pretty much the same outside of the window/veranda status (more or less the exceptions are the cat 12, 11, 3, 2, 1, and handicapped cabins).
Marsha, your report so far is fabulous. You took pictures of so many things and they bring back a lot of great memories. Thank you so much for doing this report. It'll be great to hear about Kidani since we haven't been there yet.

Oh, I almost forgot that some cruisers say that the lower you are in the ship, the less you feel the movement, so those prone to mal de mer might be better off in the lower cabins. (We take Bonine before boarding and every morning while on board, so I am happy to say no seasickness for us...and that includes the 30-40' waves we encountered last year.)

I have stayed on decks 5 & 7. I liked both of the rooms. I really likes having the big porthole. I haven't stayed in a category 9 so I can't compare. We were supposed to stay on deck 1 or 2 but were upgraded for our honeymoon to deck 5.

Joanne, thank you for also answering goterps's question. I have only been on two cruises so I do not have that good of a reference point.
I am glad that my report is bringing back good memories.

Yep, we were late getting ready for school today. I let dd3 sleep as LATE as possible before waking her to take dd1 to school. Guess what, full blow out! Thankfully we were still on time for school.
I have had that happen too and it is usually when I am running late for work.
That is so wonderful! I am sure you will have a blast.

We did not stay too long in the room since we were hungry. When we arrived back at Parrot Cay, we put our name on the list and were called in less than five minutes. The food was so good. I was too hungry to take pictures of the food. But, everything that I had was delicious. After eating, I did manage to take some pictures, especially since DS was feeling better now that he had some food in him.

After a very good lunch, we headed to the DIS Meet in the Promenade Lounge. It was good seeing more of the people that I had chatted with online. Plus, there were “door prizes” of which I won one and prizes for the game we played on our thread. Some of the photos are mine and some are from WDWLVR.

Once we were all accounted for, the crew member allowed our family to leave since DS was having another meltdown. As soon as we got back to the room, I put DS on the sofa and he went to sleep in an instant. That meant there would be no sail away party for us. I must admit that DH did say I could go. I really wanted to go and be with my DIS friends since we had been doing our own sail away party online every week (we watched the Wonder sail away on Sundays) but I was exhausted too. I just sat on the sofa with DS and looked out the window and snapped some pictures.

DS was sleeping so soundly I hated to wake him. DH & I changed into our clothes and then woke DS up so that I could change him into his dinner clothes. DS was not happy. The only thing that would soothe his was his blanket which he very rarely wants to take with him but this evening he wanted it. So, we allowed him to bring it.
I did not take too many pictures since we were trying to keep DS entertained. Here is the only one I took of Tritons.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4001.jpg
There were crayons on the table which DS enjoyed. Plus, there was another little boy at the table. I was thankful that we were seated with a couple who understood. Come to find out the couple at our table used to live in our area and the little boy attended the same daycare that DS had just started. It is truly a small world. Or, is it just Disney?
We met our server, Arnel, and our assistant server, Deniza, who were wonderful. They were very attentive to our needs, including the children. The head server, Ali, was also wonderful and made sure all of our needs were being met.
We perused the menu (I do not have copies of the kid menus) …
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/menus%20navigators%20etc/Tritonsmenu1.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/menus%20navigators%20etc/Tritonsmenu2.jpg
and placed our order.
While waiting for our food, we enjoyed the warm French country bread with an olive spread. DH is a bread lover so he particularly enjoyed the bread selection every evening.
For the appetizer I ordered the chilled jumbo shrimp which was very good. I am a seafood lover. DH is not so he ordered the applewood smoked bacon and wild mushroom tart which he enjoyed. For my soup/salad, I ordered the tomato and basil soup which was good. I am not a soup person, except for when I am sick, but I enjoyed this soup
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_3997.jpg
DH ordered the “Chef Louis” French Onion Soup with Gruyere Cheese Crouton. He thoroughly enjoyed it.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_3998.jpg
DS’s dinner came out with the soup. He liked his dinner.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_3999.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4000.jpg
For the main course, I ordered the Three-Cheese Lobster Macaroni. It was okay. I wish it had a little more lobster and seasoning.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4002.jpg
DH ordered the Grilled Farm-Raised Chicken Breast. Now, DH is a finicky eater. He does not like anything on the bone (due to a childhood trauma) which is just crazy to me. But, he tried the chicken breast and liked it except for the bone. He ate around it the best he could.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4003.jpg
Now for the best part of the meal – DESSERT.
DS had a Mickey bar
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4004.jpg
I had the crème brulee.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4005.jpg
DH had the soufflé with vanilla sauce.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4006.jpg
The desserts were delicious!
After dinner, we headed to see the Golden Mickeys. The show was very good. DS enjoyed it. He sat through the whole show.
When we got back to the room, our fish extender had some gifts.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4007.jpg
We emptied it and went into our room where we were greeted by this towel creature and Disney Files magazines.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4008.jpg
Inside the magazine was a card with a few questions on it. Once you answered the questions, you can place it in the basket outside of the DVC Members clubhouse which entered you into a drawing where you could win 1 of 3 $500 gift cards. I did not win but someone on the ’09 Members cruise thread did.
For the rest of the night we relaxed in our room. DH ordered room service, a cheeseburger and fries and a chocolate chip cookie. I order the cake of the day which was a chocolate cake. We had a restful and relaxing evening. DS slept soundly through the night and so did his parents.

I read your Feb TR with fam and when I came across this one I was so excited!! We leave in 26 days for our first stay at BCV and are going to TRY to get in for the Members Cruise 2010. I was worried about the stateroom sizes especially the bathrooms as DH is a big guy. But after reading your report I feel SO much better. Also is getting the early seating difficult? - my girls are 2 and 5 and late dinner would put a real kink in the plans!
Thanks for sharing - I am going to TRY to do a TR for our trip to BCV - I haven't tried putting pics in yet!!!

I am gald you were able to find this one. Thank you for joining me on both trip reports. Please do write a trip report for BCV. I would have enjoyed staying there a little longer to experience the resort more fully.
As you can see, my DH is a big guy and the stateroom was fine with him. The shower was also doable for his 6'5" frame. We were thankful for the detachable shower head.
Early seating was easy to get. I think DCL tends to seat families with small children in early seating.

After a restful night sleep, we woke up and got dressed. We were not yet docked at Castaway Cay.

Our plan was to head to the Walt Disney Theatre to see Drawn To Vacation. When we arrived in our room yesterday, there were tickets to this “show” in our stateroom. We would be the first half of this ship to experience this. Now, being the naïve family that we were, we did not know what to expect. We thought it would be an actual show. The title should have given it away. We headed to the show and arrived right before it began. We were welcomed by DVC and I guess RCI reps, took our seat, and the show began. The show lasted about 1 hour though it seemed longer with DS who was not a happy camper. Note to self: feed the boy first! He liked seeing some of the clips showed, especially the one detailing the new plan for a Cars attraction at Disneyland. They also showed Deevy’s “trip to Africa” which was really some highlights of Kidani. He also liked some of the singing. However, it was not enough to hold his attention for an hour. I missed the incentives they were offering. We were given RCI pins when the show was over. Three vacations were given away but you did not need to be present to win. I wish the show was shorter and they had told us of the incentives in the beginning. Then, we could have disembarked for a day at Castaway Cay.
After the show, we went back to the room. We were docked at Castaway Cay by this time. We perused the navigator and the day’s activities to find out when lunch on Castaway Cay would begin.

While waiting for lunch time to draw near, I decided to deliver some of my FE gifts.

http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4018.jpg
My FE gift to my fellow cruise mates who participated in the FE exchange included at least one postcard with a recipe on it (either for Maryland Crab Soup or Crab Cakes), soap in the shape of a crab, a pencil detailing some facts about MD, Goetz caramel candy which is manufactured in where else but MD, and some saltwater taffy. My theme if you have not figured it out by now was a bringing a little bit of MD to you. After delivering some of my gifts, we changed into our beach attire. It was at this time that I had discovered that I had left the all important sunscreen at home. I did have the stick sunscreen that I applied liberally to DS and to DH (or so I thought). Now, we were ready to head to Castaway Cay.

It was a beautiful day.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4021.jpg
Since we were so hungry, we hopped on the tram right away and headed to Cookies BBQ.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4022.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4023.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4024.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4026.jpg
The food at Cookies was very good.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4027.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4028.jpg
While we were eating, it started to rain but, it soon passed. By the time we were done eating, the shower was over. The Castaway Cay signature drink was a Konk Cooler. Because it was raining, they offered a 2 for 1 drink special. So, we headed to the family beach. The water was a little choppy but DS loved it just the same. DH & I grabbed a couple of chairs and put them in the water and just sat. Some waves did splash us in the face a couple of times but we did not care. WE were enjoying the warmth and the water. DS was enjoying picking up the seashells and throwing them back in the water. He also liked sitting in our laps and getting splashed by the waves.

After spending some time of the beach, we headed back to the boat. Before making our way to the tram we did purchase two Konk Koolers and they were still 2 for 1. Once we arrived at the ship crew members were there with towels to make sure we were dry. What a nice touch.
When we arrived back to the room, there were some gifts waiting for us.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4043.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4044.jpg
The book included scenes that were cut from movies like Snow White.
Here is our view from our porthole:
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4045.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4046.jpg
I gave DS a bath and put him down for a nap. He was out in no time. DH & I rested and then prepared for the night’s dinner. We would be dining at Animator’s Palate and it was Pirate Night.

Marsha, your trip report is wonderful.
We were also on the cruise with you, I saw you a few times. And I enjoyed my FE gifts a lot.
Good luck on your booking of the 2010 SSMC cruise, we will not be calling in this time. Maybe we will be able to book 2011.

Marsha, just wanted to let you know that I'm following along too! Great trip report...can't wait to hear how you all enjoyed AKV, my family's home resort! Out of curiosity, where in MD do you live? I grew up in Rockville. Hope you're feeling better and I hope young Jack Sparrow had fun on Halloween!

Hi Dianne. Thank you for reading along. I wish I was able to talk with you and a lot of the people from our thread. Thanks for the well wishes for call-in day. Hopefully, a '10 reunion cruise can happen for all of us.

Outside each cabin about 5' or so off the ground is a metallic fish that is used by the crew members to leave messages for you (usually in an envelope). And then one day a DISser got the idea to hang a little banner w/pockets for people to leave notes and such, and since it hangs from the fish, it's called a fish extender. Since then the idea has flourished, and many cruise groups start collecting names of people who will be cruising together and they all exchange gifts via the FE. The gifts vary in range from candy to handmade things like bookmarks or magnets to things that relate to the state they're from. We've even gotten a CD w/DL music. It's amazing how creative some folks are.

Wow...that sounds so awesome! Thanks -- I have not yet sailed DCL but hope to do so on the Dream in 2011. I am definitely going to participate -- my son would LOVE it. Can you buy a fish extender :thumbsup2 or do I have to drag out the crappy old sewing machine and make one?

You can go either way; there is no set standard for these things. Just remember not to make or get it too wide because I think the panel where it will hang is only around 8" wide or so. I got mine on eBay but a lot of people get very creative w/theirs. I have to say we really enjoyed coming back to our cabin and finding treasures in our FE. As a reader, I love the bookmarks, whereas my DGDs love the duckies we got. And someone from Maryland gave us some great gifts :thumbsup2 . It was a lot of fun.

From dialing in to receiving my reservation number took almost two hours for me. I had no complaints about spending the extra money. Gratuity was included. Of course, if you want you can add more at the end of the cruise. I enjoyed the gifts that we received. Overall, it was worth it to me.

Sorry for the delay in my next post. I have been very busy with things for the 2010 Members Cruise. I did not get through until close to 1:00 p.m. on last Saturday but I was able to book three rooms on deck 7. My family, my parents, and my mother-in-law and brother-in-law will be joining us next year. It should be fun. We definitley had fun with them back in Feb. '09. They are all characters. Please read my Feb. TR (if you want) to find out what I mean.
I have also started a 2010 S.S. Members Cruise Thread (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2325257). Please join us on that thread if you are going or if you just want to stop by.
Alright, so next up will be Pirate Night.

Now, we are not like some folks who dress in their best pirate finery. However, we (or should I say I) did want to get in the “pirate mood.” So, I had my family dress in white tops and black bottoms. Plus, with some of the pirate items we received in our fish extender, DH was able to accessorize.

For an appetizer, DS had
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4047.jpg
I had the Black Beard’s Jumbo Crab Cake.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4048.jpg
DH had the Pirates Golden “Pot Stickers”.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4049.jpg
For our salads I had the Jerk Chicken Salad.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4058.jpg
DH had the Mr. Smee’s Bibb Lettuce Salad
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4059.jpg
At the same time, DS’s dinner came out.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4060.jpg
While we were waiting for our main course, our head server came over and made pirate hats out of napkins for the children at the table.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4061.jpg

http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4062.jpg
For our main course I had the Treasure-of-the-Seas Grilled Shrimp and Seared Scallops
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4065.jpg

http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4066.jpg

http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4068.jpg
We enjoyed it. After the parade, we had dessert. Both DH & I had the Pirates of the Caribbean’s Sweet Temptations which Shiver-me-Timbers White Chocolate Cheesecake, Rum Barbossa, and Walk the Triple Layered Chocolate Gangplank Cake.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4074.jpg

DS & I went back to the room and I put him to bed. DH enjoyed the movie. He was raving about the 3-D experience. I was happy that he enjoyed the movie but at that moment I did not want to hear about it. I decided that I would deliver the majority of my FE gifts that night which is what I did. I was able to tour the ship and discovered CMs on the ship cleaning and vacuuming. I also ran into some teens raving about the teen club. After delivering my gifts, I went back to the room and settled into bed.

DS & I were up before DH. So, I decided to take DS up to Beach Blanket Buffet for breakfast. It was a gorgeous day and wouldn’t you know it I forgot my camera. DS & I enjoyed breakfast outside. I should say that DS enjoyed breakfast outside since I did not eat. I knew that I had reservations for Palo Brunch at 10:30. I was so looking forward to the brunch since I had never experience it before. I had only seen pictures.
But, getting back to breakfast with DS, it was very enjoyable. It was great to have a mommy and son moment. And, though DS is only 2, he is a talker. He liked his breakfast. He liked sitting outside. He liked looking at the water. It was great getting a glimpse of things through his eyes.
After breakfast, we did a little exploration of deck 9 & 10. On our way back to the room, we ran into DS’s tablemate and his DF. They “played” ping pong for a little while and a game they made up for using the ping pong ball.
Once back in the room, DH & I got dressed and then headed to Flounder’s Reef Nursery. Since I had registered DS online, the only thing we had to do was to give the CM our name and DS’s bag and they gave us a beeper. DS walked right in much to our relief. Finally, it was time for our Palo Brunch.
Let me tell you, the brunch was amazing. Even though DH does not like seafood, he was able to find something to eat. The food was delicious. The company was fantastic. The view was breathtaking. The service was great. The beeper did not go off. I was on :cloud9: since I had alone time with both of my guys. I do not have much more to say about it. I think the pictures will tell it all.

You're welcome! If you want, PM me here or on facebook with your email address.... then I could send you a jpeg file.... :rolleyes1
Brunch at Palo's sounds great! Sandi & I did dinner instead of brunch and really enjoyed it. Did they give you each a DVC wine glass at brunch?

Yum, double yum, and triple yum - another great installment! The only thing I had to laugh at was that, with all the amazing creations of Palo Brunch, how is it that the pancakes are so average and boring?!? :rotfl: DH and I laughed about that on the Magic, and it looks like the Brunch pancakes of the Wonder aren't any better. :rolleyes1

10 am is not too early. Our brunch was at 10:30 am. It is never too early to have brunch at Palo.

After our brunch, we headed out on deck and enjoyed the view.

We then went to pick up DS.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4132.jpg
We headed back to our room and there were gifts waiting for us.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4133.jpg This was my favorite gift.
I already knew that I would be attending the Castaway Club event but I wanted to do something else. Once we got settled I perused the navigator.

The Castaway Club event was fun. It was held on Route 66. We were provided snacks – cookies, Mickey shaped krispie treats, fruit, water, and soda. It was a fun event. However, no one in our room won anything. It was a conspiracy. After the event was over, I went back to the room to find both of my guys taking a nap. I told DH that I would be going to Bingo. But, before I went, I had to go purchase a few things from Mickey’s Mate & Treasure Ketch. As you may remember, I forgot the sunscreen. Now, DH was paying the price. I purchased some sunscreen, H2O solar relief gel, and the S.S. Member Cruise 2009 Pin (which reminds me that I have not seen it since I’ve been home).
When I returned to the room, I rubbed DH’s arms down and then I was off to bingo. Now, I had not played bingo since our last cruise in 2002. Back then, I found it very addictive and today was no different. That is why I do not gamble. There were a couple of times I was one away from BINGO but at last I did not win. All of the players were given gifts throughout the game. We received a poster, a Jonah Brothers guitar pick, and some other things.

I met my family at Animator’s Palate. We made our selections from the menu.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/menus%20navigators%20etc/img099.jpg
DS had soup as an appetizer. Though he did not eat much of it, it was very delicious.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4145.jpg
I selected the Wild Mushroom Risotto and Porcini Twist.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4147.jpg
Again, I cannot tell what DH had.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4146.jpg
After the appetizers, I noticed a strange smell coming from DS. I whispered to him and he confirmed what the smell was. Now, I always carry a bag with us just in case of accidents so I took DS and the bag to the bathroom. When I opened up the bag (after I took of his pull-up), I could not find another pull-up. I could not believe it. I dressed DS minus the pull-up and went back to the restaurant. The salads & soups were already at the table. DH was kind enough to take a picture of his salad (I guess I have drilled it into him).
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise/100_4148.jpg
I did not take a picture of my Creamy Butternut Squash Soup since I was so flustered. I told DH what was wrong. DH volunteered to go to the room and get a pull-up. When he came back he took DS to the bathroom to put it on. By the time they came back, our main dishes were ready to be served.

I have to say, our servers were very nice. They made sure our food stayed warm and did not bring the food out until we were settled. We were very appreciative of that.

Thank you. I am glad you found the report and are enjoying it. The members cruise was so much fun. You have to do it at least once and in 2011 it will probably be on the new ship, Dream. Another update will be cooming soon.

It was another beautiful day. When we docked at Castaway Cay, the captain told us that the weather at CC was better than the first day. The view from our porthole:

The ocean was calm and there was no rain in the forecast. We already knew what the plan for our day would be. We would spend the majority of the day at Castaway Cay and then I would go to BINGO since the jackpot was $5000. You have to play to win. Here are the navigators for the day.

Hi Marsha! I just found your TR and I'm loving it!! Blessings to your DH...I just finished grad school so we know what you're all going through! There is light at the end of the tunnel and it will be worth it when it's over! If I may ask...where do you find the point costs for the member cruise? I've been looking for it and can't seem to find it. We're getting ready to do an add on and I think I almost have DH talked into it!! Keep up the awesome report!

Can you see us? We are way in the back. If I had one of those photo editor programs, I would have an arrow pointing to us. I guess we should have arrived a little earlier if we wanted a spot in the front. It was so hot standing on the sand. We were anxious to find a place on the beach to stake our claim. We were hoping that it would not be too crowded. We found our spot and DH & DS headed to the water.

The food was very good. I did not take any pictures because we were hungry. After lunch, we strolled back to the tram stop and did not have to wait too long.

It was kind of sad because we would not be back to Castaway Cay until next year (Lord willing). We already had planned to try to book the 2010 members cruise. In the meantime, I would have my pictures of which I took more.

Congratulations on finishing grad school! DH cannot wait until it is over - Dec. 2010. I am so proud of him though. He is doing so well. It has been tough on all of us but it is well worth. We thank God that the opportunity presented itself where he can go and his job would pay for it as long as he maintains a "B" or better.
Info on the members cruise can be found on the DVC website under special events. They have taken the points chart down since the members cruise is sold out. The members cruise is a great place to add on.
I am glad you are enjoying the report.

When we were boarding the ship, the CM was having a hard time checking me in. I was wondering why. I thought that maybe my card had been demagnetized. However, when she gave me the card back, I realized that I had given her my KTTW card for BCV. Neither she nor I realized it. She was able to check me back in without seeing the right card. I couldn’t even understand why I had my KTTW card. :confused3
Once back onboard, we found another gift waiting for us.

I bathed DS and put him down for a nap. I got ready to go to BINGO. Now, I was feeling pretty good, pretty lucky. I stood in line and waited patiently so that I can enter the theater and purchase my machine which held 96 cards per round. And guess what …
:rolleyes1
:)
;)
I came close a couple of times but no luck. The lady sitting two seats down from me one the jackpot which was over $5000. This was the second time she has won the mega jackpot. Oh well, there is always next cruise since I only play bingo on cruises.
I headed back to the room to begin packing. I did not realize how much stuff I had to pack. I was hoping to be done by dinner but no such luck. So, we headed off to Parrot Cay for dinner. This would be our fist time dining in Parrot Cay for dinner. When we sailed on the Wonder back in 2002, we opted for dinner at Palo so I was looking forward to dining at Parrot Cay for dinner. Our tablemates would not be joining us this evening since they would be dining at Palo this evening.

I called MS and we did get on the wait list for now. You're very fortunate to have your DH's job paying for his schooling. We had to scrimp, save and make do. Thank goodness for DVC because we wouldn't have had a vacation without it. Best of wishes to him! Thanks for the info!

Well, Marsha, more great pictures (Palo, mmmmmmmmm) and great reports. Oh, do I wish we were all back on board! You have done such a thorough report I'm in awe :worship: . Since we're doing the WBTA we didn't try to book the members' cruise, but 2011 will probably be the next target, especially if it's on the Dream (which we booked for Feb. 27, 2010).
Now I'm looking forward to your report on Kidani. We'll probably be booking there for next December when we'll have DGD (who will be 2 1/2) w/us. So any pointers you may have from your experience w/Charles would be appreciated. He is such an adorable little man.

You're welcome. We are taking advantage of sailing on the members cruise now while DS is not in school. Once he starts, I will not take him out if the members cruise continues to be early Sept.

I wish you were going on the membrs cruise in 2010. I will miss all of my friends. Two cruises planned! How wonderful! I think we will try to book on the Dream in July 2011. Our friends want to cruise on DCL but since their DS is in school we can only go in July or August. So, I do not know if we will be on the 2011 members cruise. But, if we can do it, we will be there. I have to see how the finances and points play out.
Traveling with a 2 /12 years old has its ups & downs but the ups outweigh the downs. My best advice is to realize that you are travelling with a child who is probably used to a schedule. I tried to adhere to his schedule as much as possible or you will experience a meltdown. DS had so much fun and it was great watching him have fun and seeing things through his eyes. I would not have traded my experience with DS for the world.

I hope you get to do a longer cruise. I know people worry about not having enough to do, but, as you know, there's always more to do than you can do.
DGD18mos will be just about 2 1/2 when we go w/her next year. I know naps are critical for them, so we're planning to do the "return to the room for a rest" thing in the middle of the day. She won't like it, but oh well. And like you said, I can't wait to see the World through her eyes.

I'm here. I have been tired. Charles has been waking up in the middle of the night and coming into our room. We had to put up a gate at his bedroom door. Thankfully, he is not a climber but he still can wake me up by calling for me. I finally got some rest last night as he slept through the night.
How are you? You will be leaving for WDW soon. Have a safe trip.

Oh, I'm glad you're OK. I think being tired goes along w/having a small child. I babysit my DGD18mos 3-4 days a week and I know it tires me out, too (she stays overnight, so it's 24/7 for that time). At least Charles is not climbing out yet. I dread the day when Riley can climb out of her crib.
We leave tomorrow in the snow :scared: . I just pray the roads will be clear and the planes will be deiced!

This would be our first dinner experience in Parrot Cay.

On our last cruise in 2002 we did not dine in Parrot Cay because that was our night to dine at Palo’s. So, this would be a first. We were excited to see what was in store for us.

http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise%20part%202/100_4245.jpg
We looked over the menu and made our selections.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/menus%20navigators%20etc/img107.jpg
For the appetizers I ordered the Baked Crab Martinique which was very delicious.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise%20part%202/100_4246.jpg
DS had fruit.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise%20part%202/100_4247.jpg
And, surprisingly DH had that Island-Spiced Seared Ahi Tuna.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise%20part%202/100_4248.jpg
I was very surprised at DH’s selection because he does not like seafood and anything that tastes “fishy.” Now, he will eat tuna salad but his was far from tuna salad. When it came out he knew he was not going to like it. But, continuing with his adventurous spirit, he tried it anyway. I even tasted a little. Neither of us liked it very much. Hopefully, DH would have better luck with his salad and dinner selections.
For the salad/soup selection I had the Cream of Green Asparagus with crabmeat.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise%20part%202/100_4249.jpg
It was tasty but I am not a big soup or asparagus fan. I do like grilled asparagus.
DH had the Parrot Cay Salad which he did enjoy.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise%20part%202/100_4250.jpg
Next, it was time for our entrees. I had the Mixed Grill. The Mixed Grill includes grilled beef tenderloin, lamb chop, bacon-wrapped sausage, and jumbo shrimp on mashed potatoes, asparagus (which I did enjoy), and grilled tomato with a crabmeat-mushroom sauce. Just typing this is making my mouth water again.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise%20part%202/100_4254.jpg
DS had the Mickey shaped pasta with the sauce on the side.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise%20part%202/100_4251.jpg http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise%20part%202/100_4253.jpg
DH Had the Island-Spiced Grilled Rib-Eye of Beef which was another adventurous selection for him since he does not like anything on the bone. He did like the sides but was not too fond of the meat since it was “fatty.”
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise%20part%202/100_4255.jpg
Dessert was the best part. We each had the sampler and an extra dessert. I particularly enjoyed the banana bread pudding.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise%20part%202/100_4264.jpg
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise%20part%202/100_4262.jpg
DH enjoyed his dessert as well. This was his favorite part of the meal.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Members%20cruise%20part%202/100_4263.jpg
Now, during the dinner, the servers marched around the restaurant and the chef was introduced. It was very nice. Also, our tablemates joined us for a little while. They asked us if we had been to Shutters because there was a very nice picture of DH & DS. We had not been so we made a plan to visit. However, we could not go after dinner because we had an appointment at the Disney Vacation Club Member Clubhouse. Before we went, we did stop to take some pictures.

We headed to deck 2 to meet with the DVC rep. There were some nice offers. We ended up adding on points to AKV. The price per point was better than the incentive DVC offered when we added on 50 additional points earlier that year.

After making our purchase we went to our room since DS was getting tired and we really had to pack. Waiting in our room was a swan, our luggage tags, and other materials regarding the disembarkation process. We also had some stuff in our fish extender.

Packing was a chore. With all of the gifts that we received we had to rearrange our suitcases a couple of times. We were glad we brought an extra suitcase and were also glad that we had the duffle bags that we had been given as a gift earlier in the cruise. I was glad that on the cruise thread they told us to bring an empty bag because we would have been struggling even more trying to pack everything. After packing and setting our luggage outside our door, in the nick of time, we settled down to get some rest.
When I woke up it looked like it was raining. It was still pitch black outside. It was wat too early to be up.

Since we had early seating for dinner, we also had an early breakfast time if we wanted to have a sit-down meal. We could have chosen to eat at Beach Blanket Buffet but we decided to do the sit down meal. We got a chance to say goodbye to our tablemates. We really enjoyed their company.
We had been told on several occasions that there was a really nice/sweet picture of DS & DH in Shutters. So, after breakfast we strolled to Shutters and viewed our pictures. Of course, I had to make a purchase.

http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Stealingakiss.jpg This is the picture that DH did not know the photographer was taking. It melts my heart.
After purchasing some pictures from Shutters, we headed off the ship. The process was very simple. We easily found our bags and breezed through customs. The only trouble we had was finding our car. DH forgot where he had parked. So, we and the porter walked the entire length of the two parking lots. I was not a happy camper and neither was DS who decided that he did not want to walk. Once we found the car we had to manage to get all of the bags to fit in the car. It was like playing Tetris. We somehow managed (we really had no choice unless we were going to leave some things behind). I was thankful we were not flying. I’m sure the fees would have been astronomical. Once we were all settled into the car we headed off to Kidani.

This is the RCI pin that was given to us after the Drawn to Vacation presentation.

Thank you for the fabulous report Marsha! It is great to read more.
Ya know, when little ones start to have changes in sleep( too little or too much), it usually means that they are getting ready for a major milestone or growth spurt. Hopefully that is why he hasn't been sleeping well. (i need a fingers crossed smiley here). Hope it gets better and i know how tiring it can be. Here's to more sleep and can't wait to hear about your kidani stay!

DS has been sleepiing better, thank God. I am able to get some *****turbed sleep which is much needed. Work and the holiday prep has been keeping me pretty busy.
We loved Kidani! My Kidani installment is coming.

We had an easy drive to AKV. It had turned out to be a beautiful day. We arrived at the security gate of AKV in no time.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Kidani%20Village/100_4288.jpg
We pulled up and I gave the security guard my name. She gave me my parking pass and told me to go to Jambo. Even the parking pass had Jambo on it. I wondered why she was directing me to Jambo and why the parking pass had Jambo on since I had reservations for Kidani. :confused3 I hoped that my reservation did not fall through during the time we were on the ship. But, I did as the security guard said and drove to Jambo.
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k368/Lynmae75/DVC%20Firsts%202009/Kidani%20Village/100_4289.jpg
I parked the car and told DH to wait in the car with DS since DS was sleeping. I went to the front desk and explained to the CM that I had reservations for Kidani and that I even did online check-in. She looked my name up in the computer and explained that since I had originally made reservations for Jambo and was waitlisted for Kidani that my name was not removed from the parking pass system for Jambo even though our waitlist came through. So, it was off to Kidani.

I must say, valet parking was a wonderful thing. We took the bags that we were carrying up to the room and let the CMs handle the rest including parking our car. We entered the lobby of Kidani and both commented on how smaller it was. But, we still liked it. We went to the online check-in podium and I gave the CM my name. She found the folder but there were problems with the KTTW card. I was listed as the child and DH & DS were listed as the adults. How did that happen? She did not know. So, a new card for me had to be reissued. While waiting for the cards, the CM told us that our room, 7751, was ready. She also went over the daily activities.

Once I had my corrected card, we headed up to our room. I must admit the hallways were long. I was thankful that DS was cooperating by walking on his own. He loved the long hallways. It gave him a chance to run.
Finally, we reached our room.

Marsha, as always, great stuff! Kidani looks wonderful. It was really nice to see that the rooms have a separate shower stall. Getting in and out of the tub at Jambo is tricky for me, being as vertically challenged as I am ;) . We're planning to stay at Kidani next December, so I'm really glad to have had an inside view.
I love your photographic kitchen inventory :thumbsup2 . My biggest problem w/the contents was that the coffee cups were thimble-sized (probably around 6 oz.). We like our big mugs at home (somewhere around 16 oz. or so).
How did Charles like seeing the animals? It's priceless watching them react to new and interesting things like that.

When I last left out, we had just arrived at Kidani. I took plenty of pictures. We were all tired from getting up so early so I put DS down for a nap and decided to join him after I did a load of laundry. Once we all woke up, we went to DH's father's home. He lives in Tampa. It was a quick drive. We ate dinner there and chit chatted. It was a great and relaxing evening. Our drive back to WDW took longer than our drive to Tampa due to roadwork. Crews were shutting down two lanes. It was horrible but we finally made it back.

After walking the grounds, we went back inside to see if anything caught my eye. Some things did but I did not buy anything. There was a display that we found interesting.

AWESOME pictures of Kidani!!! I love all the details they have in the rooms. I see hidden Mickeys on the carpet! Ahhh is it April yet? You have me really excited now.
Are you going in April? How exciting!
WOW.WOW.WOW - - awesome pictures of Kidani!!! I can't believe all the little details that the designers created in the rooms. Just gorgeous! :goodvibes
I love the decor and the atmosphere. I cannot wait to go back. It is a gorgeous place.
That's great; I hope you have a fantastic time in September between the members' cruise and AKV.
Does Kidani have different savannas like Jambo House? If so, which view did you have?
I can't wait to go on the member's cruise in Sept. I am so looking forward to it especially after all of this snow.
Kidani has two savannahs - the Sunset & Pembe. I believe I was on the Pembe. We maily saw okapi.
So excited to see an update from you!! Had wondered where you were but figured it was holiday's and all. Hope yall are fairing well in all the snow! Love all the Kidani pics especially since we leave for the world on Thurs.

I have been reading and enjoying your trip report. I could not agree more about hating this snow we had and that continues to be everywhere. Makes me my Disney daydreamin obsession worse. Not to mention I just started grad school this semester too so I will just say "I feel your pain". :goodvibes
Did you enjoy the BCVs more over the AKVs? Curious because we are going to be buying into DVC and these are our 2 competing resorts. Thanks for the feedback!

Thank you for reading. I am glad you are enjoying the report.
We are partial to AKV. This is our home resort. We really like the decor, the atmosphere, waking up and seeing the animals. BCV has its advantages too. You are in walking distance to Epcot, a variety of restuarants, and the Boardwalk. However, AKV is our home and nothing beats home.

When we got back to the room we were definitely hungry. We decided to order a pizza. Boy was that an expensive pizza and wings. But, we thouroughly enjoyed it.
That night I finshed the laundry and packed. Our plan was to leave early in the next morning so we would make it back to MD the next evening. However, like in my first trip report, plans are made to be broken.
The next morning we left later than planned. I put sleep ahead of travel. We needed to be well rested. And, of course, before we left, I had to take some final pictures since I would not be seeing my resort for another year.
One last time out on the balcony.

Thanks for the Kidani pictures. We just came back at the end of Jan after a stay at Kidani and then our first 3n DCL. We loved it. We're now considering a member cruise for 2011.
This seems like a silly question, but were there a lot of kids on the cruise? Just wondering if because of the time in Sept, and it being a member cruise if there were fewer kids there. My kids will be 8, almost 6 and almost 3 in Sept of '11. They loved playing with the other kids in Jan, and would be bummed if the kids clubs weren't very full with others to play with.

Fabulous job, Marsha! :flower3: We have booked our December trip at Kidani and I'm really looking forward to it. I think DGD21mos will have a ball; she's so curious and interested in EVERYTHING (must pick up, touch, poke, pull, pat and/or taste anything she can).
In response to an earlier poster, we also spent time at BCV and at AKV (our home resort, too). I love both of them, but they're both wonderful for different reasons. I think if we added on, it would be at BCV. Or Hawaii :rotfl: . Yeah, right! (Although I do think if we ever got to Hawaii, it would be via DVC.)
Our trip in December was lovely. We especially loved the beautiful castle and the snow on Main St. We brought one of our twins w/us and she just enjoyed everything. It was a very good trip.

While we were on the member cruise, we purchased additional points. Our purchase qualified us to receive limited edition artwork entitled "The Lost Soup-Eating Sequence". The artist, Don "Ducky" Williams was one of the presenters on the cruise.
From the back of the artwork:
"The "lost" image comes from a deleted sequence highlighting the dwarfs' individual personalities through a song titled "The Music in Your Soup." Walt Disney made the dfficult decision to eliminate the sequence from the finished film, believing it impeded the flow of the story."

especially the artist, one of disney's all~time best. [ based on
