We just changed our cruise from Oct 16th, 2010 to THIS ONE.

Our school calendars for 2010/2011 were released yesterday. When we were on the ship last week and booked this for Oct 16th 2010 we were guessing that some fall break days would fall in there. Well we priced the Spring Break week and it is only $50 more than the Oct 16th cruise if we got the same room. So...no brainer...I'm going to have the kids stay in school and we'll do this Spring Break cruise instead.

Just changed it this morning through my TA. We'll be in a secret porthole room. She said all the secret porthole rooms are avail currently but one! I'm kind of excited about it being out of LA (San Pedro) going to the Mexican Riveria. Something different after 7 cruises out of Port Canaveral. I haven't been to LA since I was about 20.
Pumped to be going though. Wish it wasn't so far away.

It will be:
Myself (Nita)
DH (Michael)
DD (She will be 11 then)
DS (He'll have just turned 6)

melsherard
10-25-2009, 08:04 AM
Hi Nita!
I also couldn't believe how inexpensive this cruise was! The last 2 cruises we have gone in January and taken the kids out of school, so I am so happy my kids won't have to miss any time :)
My daughter was talking about getting a kids thread going if your daughter is interested. I told her to wait until there were a few more people.
I can't wait to set sail! It will be here before we know it, though...

TexasGirl
10-25-2009, 01:50 PM
Yes, very inexpensive. My TA said she thought DCL was having and would prob continue to have some problems filling the Mexican Riveria Wonder cruises. Prob the crowd will end up being mostly West Coasters.

Drawbacks to me are no castaway, slightly higher air, higher port expenses prob. Big Pro is price and NOT MISSING SCHOOL.

So looks like only 3 DIS families so far on this thread. I'm sure that will grow.

Anyone thinking of going to Disney Land before hand?

PaigerPoo
10-29-2009, 05:49 PM
We signed up for this one on board too!! Couldnt resist the price & I already knew we'd be in good company!! Had the best time with you all on the 10/10 Magic EC!! Pirate night was AWESOME! pirate:
Not sure about our kids missing school or not. Our district hasnt put our calendar for 2011 out yet. Hopefully we'll stay where we're at!

I am very excited! I mentioned the cruise (and the great price for the secret port hole room) and he was in! Only thing he is not excited about is the $1,000 deposit amount due right now. Not that we would not take the cruise, but that we are trying to trim costs overall.

Think I will need to explain that the overall price more than outweighs the deposit amount. ;)

We are taking our first cruise in March 3-night Bahamas and I was looking for something the next March that would be warm, but different! DS always has March Break the first 2 weeks of March and the cruise is over my birthday, so I know I am good... just need a way to win DH over about the deposit.

I will keep you posted on my progress with DH...

Hoping to say I will be sailing with you soon!

Me, DH, DS (then 7), and DD (then 3)

Yeah Paige!!!!!! Bring some Dramanine to this one too. Ha Ha.

JDBlair...3 of us from our recent Oct cruise!!!

We just booked another Disney cruise today too. Obviously addicted to DCL! We booked the DREAM this morning (YES!!!) :cool1: for August 16, 2011.

We are excited. We're booked in a Sideways room...Virtual porthole.

We've been calling it

"Double Dipping Dreams before the School Bell Rings" all day today. This will be the last week before school commences in Texas so that will be our big 'send off to summer' prior to School starting the following Monday.

Very reasonable price I thought. It will be the same four of us as on this Mexico cruise. Very blessed that, God willing, we'll go on this cruise in March and then 5 months later go on the Dream.

I just booked today and we're so excited!! It will be me & DH, and DS 13 & DD 11 at the time of sailing. Like Traci, I'm hoping the school calendar will cooperate. This should be our spring break, according to the draft calendar that's been put out for comment --- it's the same week we are usually off so fingers crossed!

This will be my 4th Disney cruise... We did a 4-night in January of 2007, we're scheduled on a 7-night Eastern on the Magic in March 2010, and I went on a 3-night with some friends in 2008. Needless to say, I'm hooked! Working on my Castaway Gold status, LOL.

I look forward to meeting everyone and counting the days together. 481 of them to be exact ;)

We just signed up for this cruise today. On the trip will be me, DW, DD12 (at the time) and DD5 (at the time). This will be our second DCL cruise having been on the Magic in February 2007 in the western Caribbean. It was on that cruise that we decided to buy DVC, so we are using points for 3 out of the 4 of us on this cruise. DW and I are quite excited about another cruise, although March 2011 is a ways off. Thankfully, we are spending 9 nights at BCV in March of this year to get our Disney fix.

I will be very interested to follow this thread as we get closer to our cruise.

Hi Chris,

Welcome to the group. It has been a slow start since the cruise is so far off. We are also DVC members and are going to disney this summer and this cruise the next year. Just can't wait to go. We just went on a cruise this past nov so we are already ready for another one.

More people will join in when the cruise gets closer.

Traci,

I am not surprised the thread has not taken off because when DW called DVC yesterday it seemed like most of the ship was still wide open. I am surprised it has not started to fill up since the price is most certainly right.

Which cruise did you go on in November? Did you buy your DVC points on the cruise? Our Feb. 07 cruise is what hooked us on DVC and we have now been to WDW 5 times since then with number 6 coming up in a month. We are doing this cruise as a change of pace.

Hi Chris,

My family and I just went on the 7nt eastern on the Magic Nov 7-14 2009. We had such a blast. It was a complete surprise for my sons 10th birthday. We did buy into DVC on the cruise. We will be doing our first dvc stay this june and we r so excited about it. I am even more surprised this cruise isnt booked bc that week is spring break for a lot of people and that time usually fills up. Hmmm.. who knows. I am just excited to go and hope to meet people along the way. I still talk to lots of my previous cruise mates on face book every day. We had a blast.

ONE year away!

In honor of the one year mark I went to Cruise Critic this morning and spent an hour at least on the Mexican Riveria board. Didn't post...just reading info.

Sounds so fun. I AM worried it will be too chilly...esp the water temps.

The only thing I've decided for sure is that in Mazalan (sp) I want to book Randi's Horses and enjoy Stone Island.

Prob will an AI in Puerto Vallarta and some sort of tour in Acapulco.

Will miss Castaway Cay though! :cloud9: Sigh.

ONE Year Away!!!!

(We did book a Carnival cruise for this June :cheer2:. It will be our cruise for 2010.)

Spring Break starts this Monday. This year....I'm working and doing nothing special. Next year during Spring Break...hello DCL and Mexico.

:flower3: hello everyone. We were orginally booked for the Eastern for Nov 6th of this year....but our oldest DD decided she wants to attend a private Christian High School instead of continuing to be home schooled. Sooooo we had to shift gears and move our date to her spring break. We have always sailed the Magic in the past [4] cruises, but hopefully the Wonder will be just as nice. :upsidedow We have actually sailed this exact Iitinary 4 other times, twice with Disney. We are very happy  that Disney will have a ship closer to home. The air fare for 7 of us to Florida was killing us pirate: The cast of who is sailing is Me "Rebecca" 44, DD "Earl" 43, DD "Jennah" 13, will be 14 when we sail, DD "Macy" 11 who will be 12 when we sail and twin DS's "Kaleb and Kasey" 8 who will be 9 next month, and DB "Uncle Mark" 52 :goodvibes We currently have connecting verdanaha cabins on Deck 6, but are considering saving close to $1000 by switching to connecting Ocean view on Deck 2. We re-booked while on our last cruise so we do have $250 OBC per cabin which the allowed us to carry over :yay::yay: and we will transfer to Dreams for additional OBC as well. :dance3: I hope to get to know all of you and have an awesome time :cheer2:

Looking forward to following this thread and getting to know you all.

Yes we would LOVE to. Our last cruise we had over 79 cabins participating. :scared1: But it really was fun :dance3: Literally had to bring one FULL extra suitcase just to bring all the FE's with us :rolleyes1 Does anyone know what excursions they are looking at doing? We usually don't get off the ship in Cabo..NOT our fav port. :sad2: We usually do excursions on our own...but am gonna look for an ATV group if we can..We did an ATV tour in St. Marrteen and had a BLAST :cheer2::cheer2: Our girls still talk about it :woohoo: Can't wait to hear what everyone else is doing. We really like the places that the 5 hour tour goes. And it includes lunch..so the actual ridding time is only 3 hours on and off. But if alot of us wanted to go and everyone else only wanted to do the 3 hour one..then I might be able to change my family's minds. :rotfl::thumbsup2

Hi Gang! I am still in post cruise mode that I did not think to come over here yet.

My wife and I just returned from a 3/13 Eastern on the Magic. While on board, we rebooked for this cruise on the West Coast.

Oddly enough, we asked for the lowest level with a split bathroom and voila we ended up with a secret porthole room in 5520. I was pleasantly surprised at that. We walked by the cabin on the Magic and I thought something fishy was up with the "Inside" cabin on the outside of the ship. After consulting the deck layouts and some reviews online, I confirmed what I suspected. Nice surprise.

My wife will be 32, I will be 40 (that's hard to type!) and daughter will be 9 (her birthday will be the day of embarkation!). We live in Texas and this will be a Spring Break cruise for us as of course school is an issue for my daughter, but my wife is also a kindergarten teacher.

We too are considering an ATV excursion as we just did one on St. Maarten as well. It was a fun ride and since our daughter missed out, she will love it this time I am certain. I was kind of hoping to do that in PV, but Cabo does seem to have a nice one.

We were thinking of taking a water taxi over to Lovers Beach and the arches at Cabo, but we'll weigh the pros and cons. Sara and I took a cruise on Princess with this itinerary a while back and know the cold water temps that time of year, so swimming is not likely on the agenda, but boating can certainly be fun!

I am looking forward to getting to know all of you as time progresses. It will be here sooner than we know!

Now back to finishing that latest trip report!!

Hi Scott and family - welcome to this meets thread. I see you are in Euless. We live in South Arlington (right at Arlington/Mansfield border). How cool that we will be on the same cruise. Our daughter will be 11 at the time of the cruise.
I think we have one of the SPH rooms too....I'll have to check with DH on that one to be sure. And it is our Spring Break cruise as well. Didn't feel comfortable pulling DD out of school like we used to since she will be in 5th grade. And I work for the school district so it is better that I go during Spring Break as well.
Looking forward to getting to know you and the other March 13, 2011 cruisers.

:welcome: Scott and family to the Fiesta party: One of our DD's would have just turned 12 rigjt before the cruise [day after Christmas to be exact] and would love to get to know your dd before the cruise. It will be cool if she can join the ATV tour...why didn't she go on the one in St. Marrteen? Our girls :lovestrucLOVED:lovestruc it, they still talk about it. I was telling DH that you guys are tossed up between the two and he asked "well, what are we doing in PV?" And I was like "not sure" and he says "is there an ATV tour there?" I tell him yes..so now he wants us to do both :rotfl::rotfl: told my girls and they are soooo on board. :cheer2::cheer2: In Mazitlan we will most likely rent an open aired :car: taxi for the day and do our own tour. :woohoo: We are getting so excited. School is almost out, then the whole summer..then next thing you know school is back in, then the holidays..when they are finally over..Whamo the cruise will be here :yay::yay: Well, i've got to go finish some laundry. :laundy: enjoy your evening all :goodvibes

Aliron - you ARE close! I used to live in central Arlington and grew up in Burleson..so I know the area reasionably well!

My wife too works as a Kindergarten teacher (this year - she's hoping for a new position next year that I won't mention and jinx it!).

As for why our daughter did not ATV in St. Maarten is because she did not cruise with us - so she gets her turn this time!

We also found ATV adventures in Mazatlan as well (Stone Island) so if that sort of excursion is what we want, I am sure we can find a suitable scenario.

It is a daunting countdown number - but it will go quickly. I am convinced that the older I get, the faster the clocks run.

Happy Easter weekend all...

Please count us in for the FE as well. We did it on the last cruise and had a ball other than one box that was sent down with FEgifts in it went to the wrong people (cruise before us).

We have been really busy and havent been on so can someone point me to the kids thread for our group so my son can join. TIA

Well something got me to thinking maybe I might move this trip to another time. Sadly the price is right for this cruise and the time but then thought Hello we r going to be in mexico during spring break. Not sure if I want to deal with drunk partying college kids. Has anyone thought of this or have any ideas. I'm getting a little worried.

I thought of this too... But I am really not concerned. If I dont like it, Ill move and go back to the ship... It is worth the price to me, and the time the kids wont miss school. Pros totally weigh out the cons on this one. IMO. :goodvibes

Allison. Scott,

We are your neighbors as well. We live in Euless, TX. Small world huh?

My daughter is currently in 4th grade and 10 years old, but will be 5th grade and 11 at the time of the cruise.

My son will be 6 and in Kindergarten.

Yep, it is our Spring Break as well. That is why we picked it. We also are in a Secret Porthole Room!

I'm a little worried about the weather being cool and the water cold....but it will be nice to try some new ports. Plus, I haven't been to LA in about 20 years so that will also be something different!

Sounds like there will several girls my DD's age for her to play with. That always makes the cruise go better!

We went on a 7 day Magic cruise in October to St. Croix. We decided it was a poor decision to have pulled her out of school. We decided to stick with school breaks from now on. Spring Break fit our needs and the price is good.

Wow - now this really IS a small world!

Another cruiser from Euless - to put it in terms most would understand, Euless is a small city of about 40,000 - so not a lot of us out there! What are the odds that this would occur.

OK - at the risk of boring the rest of the board - we are in north Euless - near Mid Cities and Fuller Wiser streets.

VERY unique!

As for partying in Mexico - I would only imagine we run into anything in Cabo. PV and Mazatlan would not be very Spring Break friendly I would not imagine. My only concern about this itinerary and time was cold ocean waters. And that is just something we figure we won't get to utilize. We've cruised February on the west coast before. Very cold ocean water - but the pools are quite usable on board the ships with pleasantly warm weather!

I was really surprised to read you were from Euless as well Scott!

We live in South Euless..not too far from Euless Main and Trinity Blvd. My son's preschool isn't far from you.

That is wild!

I'm sure my daugher will love meeting your 9 year old.

-----
I don't think partying Spring Breakers will be much of a problem in Mexico. Now, I cruised about 3 yrs ago on Spring Break (Celebrity) and the college agers on Spring Break WERE definitely a problem but we were all confined together on a ship...no escape. (After that we swore we'd never cruise again on Spring Break unless it was Disney)

In Mexico, we'll be spread out. If you go by a Senor Frogs or Margaritaville type....well sure...but on most of the excursions we'll be doing...I don't think it will be an issue.

This is exactly why we normally NEVER get off in Cabo. But I figure the party crowd will not want to spend there extra drinking dollars on an ATV family tour. And with this tour allowing our girls to drive..it is a big deciding factor to get off in port This will also be our spring break. I have home schooled for the past 3 years, but Jennah will start a private Christian High School this coming August and we don't want to pull her out during school. :goodvibes

As for all the Texas people :thumbsup2 I grew up in Fort Worth, my sister was born there. Her dad was born and rasied in Euless, both his parents are buried there, and he now lives in North Richland hills and put in 35 years at Bell Helicopter. Very small world :lovestruc

College students are strongly discouraged from traveling to Mexico for breaks any more due to the violence in the country. I believe a great deal of the students, if they do go, stay within close proximity of the border since they tend to travel down via vehicles and not airplanes.

I'm not worried about spring breakers in Mexico, personally!

I haven't been around on the boards too much these days. Kind of been busy with school :surfweb:. I did pour myself a cocktail last night and drank it out of one of our DCL drink glasses from the ship. For a moment, I felt like I was back on the ship!!!

Well thanks for all of the responses. We too are in Texas. We went on the Nov St croix cruise as well. Also took my son out of school. It was a surprise trip for his 10th birthday. Will not do that again!!!!! Our family has decided to still take this cruise and not worry about the partying. I dont think that much will be going on during the day while we r at port and the excursions disney will be offering. It has been discouraged for spring breakers to not go to mexico but they still go anyway. They sure did this spring break. If we dont feel comfortable we will just get back on the ship. There is more than enough to do there.

Hope everyone is doing ok.

Wow...I think the SPH rooms have been taken over by TX residents:-) We do have one too. TexasGirl, Our daughter is 10 and in 4th grade now too. She turns 11 on January 9th. Maybe when it gets closer we could meet somewhere so the girls could get to know each other before the cruise. My daughter loves that she has someone her age/grade on the cruise.

Ok - this is starting to get real scary with all the connections!

It sounds like we might need to have an Arlington area meet sometime this Summer or Fall.

Did a little planning yesterday on our pre-cruise planning. We are hoping to fly into CA Friday night. Ideally we would visit Disneyland Saturday, but one day tickets are priced obnoxiously high to encourage multi-day visits. We may end up driving to Laguna and Orange County for the day as well as an excursion north to LA or Hollywood and an evening stop at Downtown Disney. Who knows - lots of time to figure all that...

This has been a very busy week for us...And we are currently in the middle of getting ready for the twins birthday party::bday: tomorrow. They will turn the big 9 :woohoo::woohoo: We rented a BIG bounce house, a snow cone machine, and a cotton candy machine. We will have hot dogs, sodas, chips and pop corn. Sorta a carnival theme going on, but not really since the boys are "not babies..and 9 year olds don't have carnival parties" :rolleyes1 Soooo its a Start of Summer party :rotfl2: Well, I should get back to doing :laundy: Have a great weekend all. Hello everyone! Well I had a most interesting week. I spent 4 nights in the hospital.

When all was said and done they figured out it was gall bladder related and had it removed. I was dismissed yesterday and am on the mend.

I'm just glad they figured out why I was so sick.

My kids have been great and DH helpful...and friends, family, church, co-workers awesome.

This is going to force me to be healthier...eating small, lowfat meals throughout the day. I'm glad it happened now, was discovered and is behind me.

Take care all!

Euphscott

Wow - sorry to hear you had the gall bladder issues.

Oddly enough - we are headed to the Dr. this afternoon to see if that might be what is going on with Sara - she's had some issues lately and the doctor saw her last week - but they tried acid reflux and and bladder infection meds first.

We are crossing fingers!

Happy birthday to the twins - sounds like a big party is ahead!

Just back from the Eastbound Transatlantic and we booked this cruise on-board. The price was great and we got so addicted to sea days that I really don't care too much about what ports we go to. Anyway, we're from Ohio and will be me (39), DH (38), DD8, DD6 (at cruise time).

Hi everyone! And WELCOME to the new posters!

What a busy time! School wrapping up. Spring is here. Working on the yard, swimming lessons, etc. I can't believe it is almost Summer break. (Although no break for Mom and Dad!)

We need a cruise sooo bad. 50 days to go until our Summer cruise on Carnival Conquest (out of Galveston.)

Then I can really focus the anticipation to this March Disney Cruise!

Hope everyone is having a great May. Happy Mothers Day to the Mommys out there!

Hello to everyone in this group. I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Monica and I live in Mazatlan, Sinaloa Mexico. For anyone on a future Disney cruise to the Mexican Riviera, I am pleased to make myself available to you for any questions about the city of Mazatlan or country of Mexico.

As for myself, I am a resident of both the United States and of Mexico. I speak both English and Spanish fluently and I have sailed on DCL numerous times and have been a lifelong fan of Disney. Let me say right upfront, I am NOT selling anything nor am I affiliated with any business or tour company. I am only here to help and give honest information and opinions in an attempt to make your time in Mazatlan or Mexico a positive experience.

I hope that everyone will welcome me to the discussion and that I can be of assistance to anyone who has a question about my city or country. I will attempt to check the boards once per day, but should I miss a question, please do not hesitate to send me a private message. I look forward to getting to know everyone!

Gracias,
Monica

Just read on my Facebook that they are offering Kids Sail Free for this cruise. (Jan 12-Mar 20....just in time)
DH is working with the reservation right now to get us some savings. Hopefully we can add another kid to our reservation and take a friend along for our daughter.
Hopefully you all can take advantage of this too.

Hi Alison,
I just saw that too and now have a stateroom on hold for this sailing! The funny thing is, we were originally booked on the May 30 Alaska cruise and just switched to the March 13 cruise on the Dream just last night. We have that one under deposit and this one on hold and have 5 days in which to make up our minds. :confused3

So, who wants to sell me on this cruise versus the Dream?

Obviously 3 extra nights for $200 less than a similar stateroom on the Dream is a HUGE plus. And my kids really wanted to do all the activities they mention on the DCL planning DVD as "only on cruises of 7 nights or longer." But airfare for 4 (we're in Alabama and can drive to Port Canaveral) is a HUGE minus.

:cool1: :banana::cool1::banana::cool1::banana::cool1:

Just saved $335 on the Kids sale free promotion and kept the SPH. Well, actually maybe just over $100 because I knew I lost the 10% but then I lost the $200 OBC. Thanks DU for still giving me the $75. Now I have more time to save money for tips.

So now I have a little more money for the plane ride into LA.

And a lot of time to decide if we need to bring a friend along.

My TA called back and we saved about 800 dollars as well. :cool1: We also lost our 200 dollar on board credit for booking aboard :sad1:...so really we only saved about 600 dollars. Still...we came out ahead. Not to be greedy, but wish we could have kept our on board booking bonus.

We thought about booking a dummy date to keep the discount for when the 2012 prices come out in Oct...but finally decided against it. We'd had to put down another 500 bucks for the dummy date plus release our MR booking and rebook it. Would have most likely mean losing our SPH cabin.

Mindy, That is awesome All Seasons already adjusted it for you. That is how we found about it too. We have used them several times, although not for the bookings of the last couple of years.

We officially have an FE Gift exchange underway! So far, the following 7 families are participating:

Melsherard
Goofytracy
Jump4joy
Stfnslky
Aliron682
Mindy327
Millissa

If anyone else would like to participate, just reply to this post or send me a pm, I will update the list periodically. You don't have to have kids to participate, and the rule is, give as you want. In other words, if you'd like to give one gift per cabin, or gift to children only, or gift to adults only, or gift to each person individually, then thats what you do. We will in the future need # of adults, # of Children and ages as well as cabin numbers.

As we each find out our cabin number as our cruise approaches, post or pm that info along with the deck number and prior to our travel time, I will get a list to each of you.

What Is An FE Gift Exchange?
FE gift exchanges were created by fellow Dissers a number of years ago. Outside the stateroom doors there is metal FISH Hook for DCL or others to attach important notes or such for you. As part of an FE gift exchange, participants hang a some type of hanging organizer, commonly known as a FISH EXTENDER. Some people make elaborate ones, others hang decorative bags ect. Participants in an FE gift exchange then secretly leave a small gift in the pockets of others Fish extenders. The gift exchange add's more magic to the cruise and It's a real treat to come back to your cabin to find a surprise in your FE! :goodvibes

We officially have an FE Gift exchange underway! So far, the following 9 families are participating:

Melsherard
Goofytracy
Jump4joy
Stfnslky
Aliron682
Mindy327
Millissa
Williamson_ja
Krazy4cruising

If anyone else would like to participate, just reply to this post or send me a pm, I will update the list periodically. You don't have to have kids to participate, and the rule is, give as you want. In other words, if you'd like to give one gift per cabin, or gift to children only, or gift to adults only, or gift to each person individually, then thats what you do. We will in the future need # of adults, # of Children and ages as well as cabin numbers.

As we each find out our cabin number as our cruise approaches, post or pm that info along with the deck number and prior to our travel time, I will get a list to each of you.
:goodvibes

List has been updated.

We are sooo excited to get to know everyone.

I'm really excited to cruise. I am disappointed Disney doesn't have their excursions on the site yet. I've been reading Cruise Critic and really want to zip line in Puerto Vallarta.

Is anyone going to Disneyland before the cruise?

She is a teacher in the local special school district, and I am an industrial facilities supervisor. We are twisting some friends arms to get them to switch to this cruise with us. Look forward to meeting everyone!!

Hey everyone! We are on this cruise as well. I am so excited. We were not even looking into going on a cruise so soon. We were on the Magic on Oct. 10 St. Croix trip as well as many of you on here. Unfortunately, we never made it to any of the meets. We were traveling with my sister and her kids along with my mom. They were not into meeting others as much. That was our kids first cruise and mine and DH's first Disney cruise. We loved it!

For this cruise it will be myself, DH (Carey), Hannah (just turned 13 at the time of travel) and Dalton (9). I would love for Hannah to get to know some other kids her age before the cruise especially since the Wonder does not seem to have as good of a set up like Ocean Quest for this age group. Last time she had her cousins which are her same age.

We are also interested in doing some zip lining and maybe a dolphin swim somewhere if at all possible. I have been looking at cruise critic a lot as well. I am excited about these ports and having more adventurous activities for the kids. The Eastern Caribbean did not have much to offer especially due to Dalton's age. The port days were the kids least favorite. They loved the ship and all the activities.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone over the next several months!

Meredith

I can't believe how fast this cruise filled up. I feel lucky to have gotten the room that we did!! We got the last GTY cat 11~. I love having GTY rooms. I like not knowing until closer!!

I will check this thread as often as I can, but since we aren't telling our dd's until Christmas....

My DH was on a business trip when I booked this trip. He had no idea until he called last night. I told him that he should not leave me home unsupervised!!

Have a great day!!!

So, apparently all the kids sail free rooms have been sold out for this cruise already. Can you believe it? 9 months away and sold out. Incredible.
Anyway, I'm hoping we can get a cruise meets thread set up for the kids/teens going on this cruise so that they can get to know each other before we go. Anyone ready to set something like that up yet? I heard that there were quite a few teens going from the boards here. It would be great for my kids to know some of them. :)

When we sailed for spring break this year, I set up a facebook group ahead of time and a lot of the teens got to know each other through that group. My DS is so psyched that a few of the teens that sailed this year are going to be on the same cruise in 2011! :cool1::cool1:

I think it may be easier for the teens to connect on facebook since there are restrictions here about age (I know my 13 year old isn't allowed to have an account here!)

ANYWAY! I'll set up a facebook group for this sailing. It will be called the same thing as this thread. If you or your children are on facebook, search for the group and we can connect!

ABDMOM.......you have the flights booked already???? WOW...didn't know they went that far. I would love to book mine. Who are you flying with?
I will probably try Southwest first and they are only booking through November right now!!

I really hope some people let their holds go off their rooms tomorrow. I am trying to find a room for my parents!! They want a CAT 10, 11 or 12.

The problem I am having is that we usually drive to PC to get on the Magic. Well, driving I can take as much as I want. Flying I won't be able too!! I will need major packing tips!!

My flights are through Delta. The non-redeye flights were quite expensive, but since I'm paying with miles, it didn't really matter. If I were paying cash, and not flying from Toronto where everyone flies out for March break, I'd wait a bit before purchasing.

I just read on another thread that the Wonder will have a Tweens' Club, called Edge, by the time we sail. Woo hoo! :cool1:

OK cruise fans, Mindy sent me the list of Dis-names she had on the cruise with FE info. I am putting that into the new list. :surfweb: The new list has more info on it. If you would like to add the rest of your info to the list, here's my generic how to instructions:

This is how the list thing works….. You may provide any, all or part of the following:

Dis Name-
Email address-
Adults name, age, occupation
Kids first names & ages
Early or late dinner seating
Stateroom number
Hometown
Where you are staying night before the cruise – (in case we have several people @ same place, we can have a dis-meet or pool party the night before)
Participating in FE Exchange

It is up to you how much information you choose to provide. The list is in MS Word format. If you don’t have MS Word, I can send it so you can view it in Adobe Reader. It will be a jumbled up mess if you try to open it in Notepad or Wordpad. If you would like to be on the list, PM me your info. Once the list is made, I will send it as an attachment to the email address you provide for the list. The list will be updated as I receive changes or additions. (once a week or so as needed) If I get something wrong, please don’t hesitate to let me know. I will try to fix it on the next update. If after you see the list, and you have any ideas or suggestions, let me know.

ALSO, We need someone who is artsy to come up with a Mexican or Fiesta style Mickey to put on the list!!
If anyone has any questions let me know!!!

The link above lists several stateroom reports. They give great info about the different staterooms, noise level etc..

The Wonder and Magic are pretty much the same in terms of noise etc.. due to the identical architectural layout of the ship.

I hope it goes well on Carnival, would like to hear about it. I have been trying to talk DW into a cruise on Carnival or RC and she just won't do it. afraid she will be disappointed....

We have cruised Carnival before. Wasn't too bad. We caught ourselves walking around saying things like "Disney would never let that happen!" Normally on CCL we can afford a balcony. On Disney we can't. Our first CCL was on The Glory...yuck. Too big. The next was on the Legend....loved it.

I am in the process of trying to find plane tickets. I am trying to talk a guy out of his Southwest vouchers. I think he has enough for my whole family. I would have to pay the $50 to have them issued in our names and then he wants $100 on top of that....so for the four of us it would cost $600 to fly from Nashville to LAX....that is a steal!

I don't think we will participate in the FE. My dd's aren't interested in that anymore. I hope everyone has a great time.

Off to work for me......have a great day!

Hope

I have created a Closed facebook page for the tweens & teens on this voyage...please, no one over seniors in high school, and no one that is not on our voyage. It is a closed group, so all members must be approved first, and content can only be seen by members. Parents are allowed, but as observers not participants:)

FYI on the Kid's facebook page...since there is no way for them to send me a message when they request, it works well to post here or to send me a PM like another parent just did, that way I know. If anyone sees someone that shouldn't be on, please let me know...I have added another Dis mom as an admin so she can keep an eye out too. So far there are 19 and the kids have started chatting...seems like there will be several 11 and 12 year olds!

Yep, that is us. DH is still aliron and I became aliron682 when he got tired of me posting on his account.
I am a Parrotheads daughter. I grew up with everything Jimmy Buffett. It rubbed off on me though too....love, love, love Jimmy Buffett. I need to let my dad know about the live performance (he's probably already listening).
We'll have to hit up one of the Margaritaville restaurants in one of the ports (hope there is at least one along the way) and help you find your last shaker of salt.

Hello~

Wow, there are quite a few people here that have booked this cruise. Like many others, we jumped on the KSF promo. It is our first time cruising, so we are excited about all of it. I am looking through various posts and see lots of things to make it super-fun. One question though...what's a fishhook (I think that's what it's called...) Looking forward to all of your tips/suggestions/etc. as well as fun and friendship next Spring!

Now, I still don't get all of the "category lingo" being a cruise noobie, but I can tell you we're in a Cat. 6A and are on the 7th deck...

Talk with you all later!

I just booked a night at the DoubleTree in San Pedro. We are driving down from the Bay Area the day before the cruise, and the DoubleTree has a park and cruise special for $189. We get to keep the car there for the duration of the cruise and there is a complimentary shuttle to the port, as well as a free breakfast the morning of departure and drink tickets for the adults for Saturday night. Parking at the port is $15/day, so it's a push, but at least we have lodging and parking taken care of (with breakfast and drinks as a bonus.)

We plan on flying in Friday night and go to DL for the day on Saturday. I want to stay at the Port on Saturday night so that when we get up on Sunday we can just make our way to the ship and start the party!

Do you guys think we can do both DL and California Adventure in one day? They don't seem that big but I am not sure...

What are other people's plans?

You would not be able to do both parks in one day if you were trying to see and do everything. If you wanted to see the very top highlights, it's do-able but you will definitely miss out on some stuff, for sure.

Our plan will be to go to Disneyland/CA Adventure from open to close on Saturday. We're staying in Anaheim and will drive to the port Sunday morning. I'm not trying to be at the port at opening this time but we'll definitely want to be on the ship around lunch time.

We are planning DL too on Saturday. We have Annual Passes to DL, but were blocked out on Saturdays. :( We stay at the Del Sol Inn across the street from the entrance. Quiet, Affordable and very CLOSE! 4 minute walk to the gates. We'll be heading down on Sunday around 9am and find somewhere to explore. We were thinking if possible to tour the Queen Mary for a couple hours before. :confused3 Who knows. I just know I cant wait. I went out and got some items for Fish Extender gifts yesterday. Soooo, excited to start making them!!! I assume our Diser group will be quite large, so I really have no idea how to prepare on the number to start buying. Any suggestions?

We will probably fly in on Thursday evening or early Friday. The kids are out of school on Friday as well as the week of the cruise for Spring Break. DH and I both have family in California so we may try to visit some of them. My family is in San Diego so if we go that direction, we may try to do Sea World and Legoland. Dalton has been asking to go to Legoland for several years and I feel he needs to go soon before he will be too old. I am told it is better for younger kids. I would love to do DL but the cost of a one day ticket is crazy. Plus, we are headed down to DW in Sept. for free dining for 9 days. I would like to try to stay near the port for Sat. night so now I have to do some research.

I have an assigned, although a bunch of my clients have GTYs. I have heard that some people already have cabin numbers, but none of mine do. It can be so random on when it is assigned. Last time I had a GTY I received my cabin number on March 9 and the sailing was April 24th, if that helps anyone anticipate.

I just found this board today. Can't wait for next spring. My wife is already lamenting the fact that we cannot find any Pooh stuff related to the cruise. She is a major Winnie the Pooh fan.

Newbie question...what does DW, DH, DD and DS stand for? I figured out who they refer to, but not what they mean.
:welcome: Aboard!!!

Since DCL main page isn't showing the kids sail free promo, do you think they pulled it early? It was suppose to go through the end of July. I am trying to get my friends a quad room with no luck. Right now they are in a GTY 11 B that only sleeps 3. Guess I will just keep trying.

You may want to leave it as it is. I may be wrong, but my TA explained it to me like this. If you get a GTY room that only sleeps 3, and there are 4 in your party, DCL automatically bumps you to a room that will accommodate your party. SO, you pay a cheaper price but get a room that will accommodate you anyway!

It's nice to see a few other Zonies in the mix. It'll be so nice to get away from the horrible early spring/late winter weather. :thumbsup2

Anyone talked about a pre-cruise meet & greet somewhere in the Valley?

While we were on board the Barcelona to Dover. We have been home less than two weeks and are ready to go again.

DH - Chirs
DW - April
DD - Avery 8
DD - Lily 5

We are late dinner, can't wait to meet some of you. I guess I have to start working on my door magnets, my wife puts me in charge of that although I'm not really the creative one.

We also have a 5 yr old dd that will be going on this cruise. How fun. Actually she will be turning 6 on the cruise. She is very excited that she gets to have her birthday on the boat! She'll be thrilled that there is another girl her age. Will you be joining the FE exchange? Also, come join our facebook page! We have 2 pages set up for our cruise. One for everybody and the other set aside just for teens. :)http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=118797338163729

For those interested in cruise baskets, it's not looking good..... This is the response I got from Shirley:

Hello Allen,
thanks for the note - I sure wish I could help you, but since ALL of the cruise ships now have banned alcoholic beverages and port badges have escalated on cost (over 250.00 per person per year), most of those that I knew that did gift baskets have quit - As far as I know, I am the only one on the east coast from key West on up, still doing the gift basket stuff and far as the West coast, again the same stands -
Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but if you do find someone, please let me know
Always
Shirley

I couldn't pull off the FE last time. I need to pay someone to make me a FE and then maybe I can put my "very uncreative mind" haha together and come up with some items.

We did the Magic Med cruise in May. We carried on 1 bottle of Port and 2 bottles of wine. We also bought wine in France and carried it on. Maybe it is a USA deal but we had no problem:mickeyjum

We'll have to find people on the February cruises to see if they're allowed to bring alcohol on board. I'm hoping it's a restriction they placed on the vendors arguing security or whatever. I searched the main forum and don't see anything about people talking about no alcohol. I'm pretty sure that would create quite the stir!! We don't carry on a great deal, and we certainly give the bars on the ship their fair share (Hey! We're on vacation! ;) ) but having a couple of bottles in the room makes things a little nicer!

That's what I was thinking. Time will tell. We are the same, we spend our fair share also! There are a couple of things we like that isn't available on the ship. You would almost certainly find us in the Cadillac Lounge winding down the evening!

We were on the Magic out of Port Canaveral in October. DH had a 6 pack and a bottle of rum in our carryon! No one said a word to us. The Security people smiled and said have a great trip! There was a huge sign there that said no brining alcohol on board, it will be confiscated etc... but they didn't hassle us.

That being said LA is a different port so the staff may be more stringent... We will just check the DIS and ask our earlier cruisers what they experienced.

We've never hung out in that part of the ship. This will be our 3rd cruise and if our 2nd was an indication of anything, we won't do things the same way. So, maybe this time we'll hang out inside more - especially since it'll be "cold" to use Zonies. :rotfl2: On our cruise in October 2009, DH and I spent a lot of time at the adult pool but on our first cruise in Sepetmber 2007, I think we went there once. Good times!!! :cool1: I cannot wait to go on this vacation. I'm so glad we booked it for 6 months earlier than we normally do!!! :woohoo:

The six of us will be flying for $200 each roundtrip!! Phew, I was afraid I would have to pay $1500 - 2000 for four tickets!! I am so happy now!!!

Have a great Monday. I have started making signs for my door!! I just need to laminate them when my boss isn't at work!!

It's so amazing that in 2 cruises, we still haven't seen everything there is to see on the ship. Just goes to show ya!

That is amazing. :cool1: One of the reasons I was so excited DCL brought the Wonder to the west coast is I no longer have to pay $1200+ in airfare to sail with the mouse!!! We can drive to the port from here! I can appreciate the savings on air fare!!! For sure!!!

We haven't decided if we are flying or driving. It's kind of a long drive from here, but we've done it before. We'll have to see what the money situation is like when it gets a little closer. Flights from Utah usually are not bad to California. I'm sure it will be less than $100 each way. Thing is that we have 8 people to get there. Flights add up pretty quick when you have that many!
