Hi HaileyBoo
We are tossing up between this one and the October 2nd one. At the moment though, this one works better for us with school holidays. We did out first DCL cruise this September which was a 7 night Western Caribbean. I'd love to do another Caribbean Cruise especially with Castaway Cay being our favourite port, but its so much cheaper for us to go to the West Coast.

I hope you can go! Our DD's will be the same age, so that would be great! When we booked this I told my DH that we would miss Castaway Cay, but we are meeting my in-laws who live in CA & going together, so we're doing this one. We are actually cheaper to fly to FLA, but I'm hoping to get lucky with some decent flights. We'll see.

I am thinking of booking this cruise. What do all the DD and DH stand for? is that Disney Husband? It would be me , hubby and two kids, boy 12 girl almost 5. Got a price today $3102.92 secret porthole rooms. What do you think? This not not include transfer or insurance. We live 40 minutes from the port.

DH = Dear Hubby; DD = Dear Daughter.

Lucky that you live that close to the port. We are flying from MO. We paid around $2900 before insurance for a secret porthole room, but we booked it on our last cruise to get the 10% discount. Hope that helps.

We are thinking of booking this cruise too.

We live in Orange County and I love not having to book airfare. My boys are now in college and this will be just me, DH and DD 12. She was 4 on our first Disney cruise.

I'm wondering about the weather.

We are down to two dates: April 10 or Sept. 25. We want warm hot weather.

Does anyone have any opinions with regards to the weather in April vs. September? I would appreciate it :grouphug:

We'll be onboard when you all arrive since we are bringing it down from Vancouver. A 5-night cruise is too short so we're making it a 12-night cruise.

The weather will be warmer in September. You have to think it just starting to warm up in April and it contiunes all summer. Wish we could go earlier in September. Went in June and Cabo was cold.

Hello to everyone in this group. I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Monica and I live in Mazatlan, Sinaloa Mexico. For anyone on a future Disney cruise to the Mexican Riviera, I am pleased to make myself available to you for any questions about the city of Mazatlan or country of Mexico.

As for myself, I am a resident of both the United States and of Mexico. I speak both English and Spanish fluently and I have sailed on DCL numerous times and have been a lifelong fan of Disney. Let me say right upfront, I am NOT selling anything nor am I affiliated with any business or tour company. I am only here to help and give honest information and opinions in an attempt to make your time in Mazatlan or Mexico a positive experience.

I hope that everyone will welcome me to the discussion and that I can be of assistance to anyone who has a question about my city or country. I will attempt to check the boards once per day, but should I miss a question, please do not hesitate to send me a private message. I look forward to getting to know everyone!

Gracias,
Monica

We may be joining you!!!! We are considering transferring our reservation from the WB TA on the Magic in 2011 to this one. Flights are just too expensive and cost-prohibitive for that cruise.

I have a price of $4200 for the 6 of us. That's good, right?

Nice to meet you Monica!!! I'm sure I'll have more questions as we get closer to our cruise date.

Well, we did it! We're officially on this cruise. We'll be driving out from MI and staying for a week in Phoenix with the in-laws. Then, driving out to LA. Anyone know where to stay in LA and get free parking? I need to put together a detailed budget!

Anyone have kids my kids' ages? They will be 15 - boy, 13 (almost 14) - boy, 11 (boy), and 5 (girl).

I'm SO psyched!!!

Wanted to introduce myself to all who will be cruising this week. I'm Kimberly And I live about 30 minutes from the port and I'm an AP holder for Disneyland. I live in Huntington Beach. So I do know the area pretty well if you have questions. Long Beach port is a great place to do some sight seeing before hand. Also if your traveling as a family there is a great Dockside bed and breakfast. You sleep on beautiful boats that sleep 6 and you look right out at the Queen Mary. Let me know if I can help in the location department. Looking forward to a great vacation.

I am so sad that Disney offer for "kids sail FREE" does not include us. I was more dates. I am thinking about switching to March 20th. I put a hold on a cabin. But I want September. Such better weather. I wish I knew if Disney would include us. We will probably pay our final payment and then it will be offered. What to do.

We will be there! Myself and my DS who will be 10 by then. I have never booked a trip so early! I have no idea what I am going to do with myself for the next 14 months. By the time the cruise rolls around I will be twitching from all my pent up excitement. Maybe this is why I don't book until the last minute, it's not procrastination... it's instant gratification!

My first Disney Cruise! (4th cruise though)

Well... found something to do since I booked the trip two weeks ago.... spend more money! :rotfl:

I purchased a super cute fish extender from Etsy and put $100 onboard credit on our reservation. I figured that whenever I have extra money I am just going to call DCL and have them add more $$$ to my onboard account. This way at the end of the 7 day cruise I won't :scared1: when I see the bill.

I live in Huntington Beach California so only about 45 minutes form the port.
Again it will be me and DS 12, DD 5 , and its a toss between bringing my mom or hubby. We will see if hubby can get work off.

A couple days ago we switched our cabin to a GTY because I love to roll the dice (I never actually gamble, I just like a bit of extra mystery with my cruising). Also, moving from an 11B to 11C (ex-category 12) saved us $120. We just went to Europe a few months ago and are taking another trip next week so we are doing this cruise on the "cheap." (Who am I kidding? We will use all the money we "saved" on the ship and on excursions.) This will be our first cruise in 8 years without a window, balcony or suite. We'll survive... right? We live near the beach in California... I am trying to reason with myself that I see this ocean everyday... I'm not missing out on anything special :rolleyes1 (this logic isn't really working... but maybe if I chant it "mantra style").

I imagine we'll be without a room number for awhile but I'll keep you posted for the FE as we get closer.

Welcome aboard!

Well, we just added another night at the VGC for our stay at D'land after this cruise so 5 nights total there. We were planning flights home to MEX yesterday and I realized I had some Alaska Air points that could be used for a late-night flight (11:20 PM). We decided we didn't want to check out of the villa at 11:00 in the morning and then just "hang around" for the day so we booked an additional night so that it will be a relaxing last day of pool/spa/food before we have to head to LAX that evening.

Not only are we getting excited about the cruises, we're now starting to think of restaurants in the area that we've missed and NEED to get to all the way from Hollywood down to City of Orange - include our favorite DLR spots, too!!

There never is enough time, is there?

Just a *bump* note but I am expecting all of you repo cruisers to still be ready to party on the September 25th cruise! Last cruise I did was after a TA (we did not do the TA) and everyone was tired and whiny when we got on. There were tons of complaints about having to eat the cruise food again, seeing similar/same shows, no one showed up to the alcohol tastings, no one participated in the activities... it was like showing up to a party after everyone was ready to go home... or going to a depressing nursing home. I'm not a wild girl (at least not in many years ;) ) but I like my fellow cruisers to be positive, excited about cruising and ready for some adventure! It's a tall order... can our repos handle it? :cool1:

That is crazy!!! :headache:

We booked our pre-cruise stay @ The Doubletree in San Pedro today:yay:. Booked post-cruise stay at Villas @ Grand Californian at the 11 month mark, all that is left is flights and Disneyland tickets. Anyone know how Long Beach airport is I have only ever flown into Burbank?

I live her about 15 minutes from Disneyland. Not sure about Burbank
Airport

Santa Ana ( Orange County) SNA Airport: Small nice airport expensive to fly in. 15 minutes to Disneyland, 10 minute to Huntington Beach, 30 minutes to Ports
Long Beach LGB Airport : Small, not run as well as other. 30 minutes to Dinseyland, 25 to Huntington Beach, and 10 minutes to Ports
Los Angeles LAX Airport: : Large airport but can get cheaper flights. I find it runs great and is totally worth the savings. 50 minutes to Disneyland, 45 minutes to Huntington Beach, and 30 minutes to Ports. It is worth flying here for a DIRECT flight.
**All times are without traffic**

I am flying from JFK in NYC on jet blue they fly into burbank, LAX and Long Beach all are direct flights and cheaper than the big airlines plus first bag is free. I love Burbank its a nice small airport. I have been to LAX to pick someone up and I hated it took over 45 mins to get to them once I got on airport property. I may fly into burbank or long beach just haven't decided yet if i want to drive down from burbank or get a service to pick me up at long beach.

If you can give me your names, ages of the kids and cabin numbers, I can add you to the roster!

FYI... for those of you not following other threads... Mazatlan has been canceled for all Wonder cruises through March. It is a wait and see what they will do for our cruise. Currently they are doing two days in Cabo. Just thought I would post in case someone was planning (and paying in advance) for any private tours. I wouldn't go that direction as port days are changing (as well as ports!)

and...

WELCOME LimoFam5!!!! So jealous you were just on the ship!!!

Yeah, a bit disappointed with this change. Granted it's still some time before we head out but I'm not to optimistic on Mazatlan being on our schedule. I was really looking forward to getting off the ship in this port.

Now, I do love Cabo - will be there at the end of February so we'll get to see the Wonder two days - and I'm happy about that, but.....

Ah, well, life is still good!

While there are many shore excursions I want to do in Cabo, I think I'd rather stop at another port too... welllllllllllll... I should qualify that... I wouldn't be thrilled with Ensenada. Really, I am mostly excited to try out the Disney Cruise no matter what we do! If we are being honest, I'm just in it for the food :lmao:

I feel awful for the people of Mazatlan who lost an unfathomable amount of money from tourism because of the gang problem.

Hello Staffieri.....So you are right down the street from us. We live in Los Al. Nice to have a neighbor onboard.... it's cool not having to fly to go on the Disney Cruise.........:yay:

Staffieris offer from above applies for myself as well. I live 15 min away from port and 20 from Disneyland and I work in the Port of LA so I would be more then happy to try and help any of you if you had any questions.

Am I not reading this right? I'm only seeing 3 or 4 port adventures for Puerto Vallarta and Cabo. And, of those, there is only one that is family friendly (ie will include all the ages of my children).

Also, is there no beach excursion on either of those stops???? My kids all want to go to the beach one day and we can't find an excursion! Ugh. Makes me want to change cruises.

Well dont change cruises just yet......I have the shore excursion booklet that I received on the 15night Panama Cruise and in there it list plenty of shore excursions for both of those ports.
When I was onboard I did speak to the shore excursion desk and they advised me minor if ANY changes would be made to the excusions listed for the MR cruise.
In both ports my family and I did beach adventures.
In PV we did a Paradise Beach Adventure which was nice. Hotel right on the beach, big pool with two HUGE Crocodile slides my kids had a blast. That beach day included all you could eat and drink, Juice, soda, beer, wine, cocktails....anything. The beach also had boogie boards to use and my girls had a blast with those. The resort name is Paradise Village Beach, you can look it up online. It was about a 20-30 min drive from port. Cost was $69ad and $34child. I would do this adventure again but this time around I think we are going to do a day trip to Las Caletas.
In cabo we did Cabo Resort Beach Getaway. I cant remember the name of the hotel at the moment but it too was right on the beach and had a nice pool area. Let me warn you the water is lovely buttttt the beach is crawling with vendors some of which just stand and stare at you laying out......made me feel very uncomfortable and because of this we spent little time at the beach and more time in the pool, which also had a nice slide. This trip included two mamosas and one afternoon mexican buffet lunch. For me I would NOT do this on this upcoming cruise. NOT WORTH it......$75.00 adults, $55 children

For us in Cabo I would feel ok with paying to take a taxi to the local beach and just doing that port on our own.

Hope this helps!!

Glad your coming. What a fun group. Did you see anything about the boat adding a club for 11 -13 year olds?

How old are the kids in your group?

There are four youth clubs onboard the ship.
Oceaneer Club - kids 3 and up
Oceanee Lab - Starting at age 5 kids have the option to hang out here if they want......my girls chose to hang out here the entire time as opposed to the Club.
Edge - Kids 11-13
Aloft - Kids 13-17

My kids will be 6 and 7 when we go in September. My sister has a son who will be 2 and our brother is going who is 15, my friends kids are 8, 10, 15.

I am glad we are not going to a safe port, but add something else. Like Manzanillo, Catalina, something. Not Ensadena. It is horrible and not safe. Too many vendors after you. But I don't want to go to Cabo twice. I hope Disney thinks of something before our cruise!!!

OMG I would not leave the ship if we did Ensenada, way to crazy and I hated walking down the street there the last time I took a cruise down that way. There were very very young kids like 3 and 4 asking you for money while there mom was sitting on the sidewalk holding a newborn. It was soooo depressing. We did Manzanillo on the Panama Cruise and it was just OK.....town that the boat docks in is sketchy looking and I would not walk the streets or anything with my kids. We did a beach adventure with Disney and it took us high up into the hills to Las Hadas resort which was pretty ok....nothing AMAZING....
and Catalina.....well I guess even though I have been there to many times to count I would rather go there then any slightly unsafe mexico port.

Don't get me wrong I'm glad Disney is playing it safe but maybe they know something we don't know about the latest happenings in Mazatlan because from what I can read it just say escalating violence but does not list an exact occurance.
I remember a while back a teenage tourist was on a shore excursion in St. Thomas and was caught in gang crossfire and died.....Disney did not stop going there..........

In the end I would rather be safe then sorry:)

How funny! That was an AMAZING cruise. I wonder if we have some pictures of you guys?

I'd have to agree with you, a port day in Ensenada Mexico would be considered a sea day to me. With the drug war violence still going on (and even escelating?) in Mexico, I would stay away from the border (and "border adjacent") hotspot towns.

However, I am really looking forward to the Mexican Riviera again...we had a good time in Cabo and a most excellent time in Puerto Villarta. In Cabo, we didn't even book an excursion...we took the tender to the dock, bought some ice cream, and just meandered through the trinket market near the port entrance. We found quite a few items to gift to friends back home, and a nice set of 3 mexican wool blankets that we are putting to good use on chilly movie nights here at home. Afterwards, we sat down to lunch at a local "roach coach", but featuring some really yummy (and non-greasy) food, and had a nice chat with a couple that was staying at a local resort. Then it was back to the ship to offload our booty, and sun and swim at the goofy pool. Very low key, but it was just what the doctor ordered.

And yes, this is the famouse BINGO cruise! (to the other cruisers reading this, I got REALLY lucky in BINGO one night, and won a 7-night MR cruise for 4!)

Super*Mum, thanks! I really need to put together a real trip report, but, failing that, maybe LimoFam5 and I can post our impressions of Cabo and PV?

Short answer is that we loved them both...we did the "Outdoor Adventure" in PV, very well run operation, and very adventurous and fun! DW, DD(12), and I had a blast taking a zodiac to a secluded harbor, taking a converted military transport truck into the forest, and taking mules to the first set of zip lines! There were, what, 8-10 zip lines (some down waterfalls), and 2 rappels (sp?). I'll post photos sometime soon.

In Cabo we just shopped, walked, and ate, and we had a blast as well!

And don't worry, at one moment the PC cruise for us was A YEAR AND A HALF away, and then I blinked, and it was just a week away!

The name of our cruise has changed... it is now called:

"7-Night Mexican Riviera Cruise - Alternate Itinerary C"

You can find this when you view your itinerary or if you pretend to book on the DCL site.

Just because speculation can be fun... It could mean "Alternate Itinerary C(ruise)" but I prefer to think Disney has Alternative Itineraries "A" and "B" they are still considering... hmmmm.

Well just checked it out on Disney Cruise Line and although all ports seem to be the same as when I booked the cruise onboard I did happen to notice a change in onboard times for each port
Originally when I booked the cruise the onboard times were as below...
PV - 7pm
Mazatlan - 6pm
Cabo - 3:30pm

NOW the onboard times are.....
PV - 6pm
Mazatlan - 4pm
Cabo - 2:30p

Kinda bummed about the time change:sad2: But I'm sure Disney had their reasons. I wonder if there is a cost drop due to the change..........

I kinda expected this cruising to be full but how full is yet to be seen. When we did the Panama Canal cruise although the ship was sold out it was not full. We talked to several cruise staff who advised us that this was due to the fact that the cruise staterooms were usually ocuppied with a family of 3, 4 and 5 and this cruise a large percent of the rooms were being occupied with 2 adults NO kids. Several staff told us that the kid count was around 400-500 tops. I can tell you that the cruise itself did not feel full at all.......there were several dining room tables empty, at times my kids were the only ones in the Goofy pool and at other times they were joined by just a few other kids. The kid couslers were placed in other working post due to the low number of kids on the ship.
Now the 2 day cruise to no where was the complete opposite, we were told there would be over 1,000 kids onboard.
Soooooo I am very interested in seeing what the kid count on this ship will be seeing as how this cruise is taking place in the first month that most kids go back to school here in So Cal.
Either way it's a Disney Cruise so it will ROCK!!!

Super*Mum

We are on the the Central Coast and all of our schools go back in August. We will be over a month in when this trip happens. Not sure how LA schools do it...

Anything is better for my DS than our cruise last year of the Greek isles. From memory there were 16 "kids" on the ship. Six of them were over the age of 16 and two of them were toddlers. Out of the 7 in my son's age range there were two brothers who didn't speak a word of English except "idiot" and "stupid" (which they called everyone, including the kids' club staff, all day). The rest were girls. He still had a blast though!!! The low kid numbers had a lot to do with the cruise being during the school year, increased flight prices to Europe, the US dollar vs. Euro/Pound and the nightmare volcano :scared1: (we were the first flight able to make it to Italy.... so lucky!!!). Those whose flights were earlier than ours had their flights canceled so there were definitely some empty seats on the cruise for that reason.

We will be the only "summer" cruise so I am sure that will raise our numbers quite a bit from those in February or March. Also, this is the first round of DCL cruises out of CA in a long time and many people who were holding out due to the cost of the flights are now booking up a storm. Reasons it may not be as full as Disney hopes would be that school is in session and the media reports of violence in Mexico. Should be interesting to see how this all impacts the numbers.

No matter what, the ship was built for maximum capacity and can accommodate all of us. It always amazes me when I cruise and they announce how many people are on board. It never seems like there is ever that many (except when tendering). ;)

Now that is just TOO FUNNY. Where on the central coast are you? We are in Arroyo Grande, near Pismo Beach and just south of San Luis Obispo!

(On the PC cruise, the family in the cabin next to us saw our "Arroyo Grande, CA" door magnets, and told us that they were from Los Osos and Atascedero!)

Either way it's a Disney Cruise so it will ROCK!!!

You've got that right! (It took us quite a few days of withdrawal to get back in the groove of real life after that PC cruise...so looking forward to being back on the Wonder!)

Is anyone worried about how full our boat is getting. I was so surprised. Ive cruised before (Western) and the boat was not crowded at all. In fact we got bumped up to a better room. Just wondering thoughts of those who cruise a lot.

Kim, I'm not too worried, like LimoFam5 said, many schools will be in session, so there will probably be a less than "normal" percentage of kids on board. I kind of like it that way, as my kids don't feel so overwhelmed and make friends easier that way. In addition, it means a ship at less than full capacity, with more space at the pools, shorter lines, and a more attentive cast/crew.

We are in AG too.... now that's strange! AG is a pretty small town, for those of you who don't know, and we are used to explaining where we live by mentioning Pismo Beach (to orient those from the valley) and San Luis Obispo (for everyone who drives the 101 from SF to LA or parents who want their kids to go to Cal Poly).

Please let me know if I have left anyone off the list or if your information is not correct. Let me know your name and cabin numbers when you get them and also if you will be doing a FE.

:yay: Count us in for the FE. What fun!

I vote for A!!!! I much rather have two straight days in Cabo and a sea day between our last port and our arrival back in LA

I'd choose "A" too. I like having a sea day right before LA, so we can take our time packing and lounging the day before LA.

Ports, schmortz. I don't care! I just want to be on a disney cruise!!! Sounds like we won't have much time in the ports though.

We just upgraded to a cat 5C. I'm not sure where yet. But, I'll let you know ASAP for the fish exchange list. I was surprised that there were connecting 5C's left!

We just decided to upgrade to a cat 5C!!! Our new room numbers are 6620 and 6622. I cannot WAIT to have a verandah!! (Actually TWO of them! I wish those connected too!)

So, for the FE list - it'll be:

Steve
Jennifer
Sam - 15
Andrew - 13 (almost 14)
William - 11
Margaret 5 1/2

COOL!!!!! I've been looking at pictures of our room category for an hour! What I can't tell is if the room part is actually any bigger than our other staterooms or if the increase in sq footage is the verandah.

We've actually had a verandah room before and no I don't think there is a difference in room size. I believe the sq footage difference is only the verandah.... From having stayed in both I can say I noticed no difference.
Either way I'm sure you will enjoy the room. Having your own private verandah can be nice for sitting back and relaxing in the morning enjoying coffee or a nice glass of wine at night!
Enjoy!!

Thanks. That is what I figured. It looked so similar in size. I absolutely cannot wait to sit outside watching the sun rise with coffee and set with wine! You have me pegged!

Problem is, we're looking at cruises for 2012 and now I don't want to book anything that doesn't have a balcony!!

I wouldn't worry about that so much, Afterall you are on a Disney Cruise!!!! Like I said before we have had both and enjoyed both. The last time we had a balcony we did not spend that much time out there so on this last cruise we booked a deluxe oceanview stateroom and loved it soooo for us as long as we are on the ship we are happy!!!!
Don't forget if you are looking at booking another Disney cruise you get a 10% discount and onboard credit when you book while you are on a cruise.

What dinner seating does everyone have? Usually we pick "late", but that's when we sail out of Florida. However, sailing out of Cali, we may want to pick early as I don't know if our kids can wait until 8:15 Cali time to eat dinner.

We also usually pick the late dining when sailing out of Florida....and this cruise will be no different. I figure with all there is do and snack on waiting until 8:15pm for dinner won't be that big of a deal. Also if you notice we are in some of the ports until 6 / 7pm and I dont want to feel rushed on a port day. I want to be able to take our time and come back to the ship relax and get changed for dinner, afterall we are on vacation the last thing I want is to rush around! I have found that dining time has always been a personal choice.

Super*Mum
02-11-2011, 07:06 PM
We are choosing late as well. I can't bring myself to eat before 6:00. I did this on my first cruise (a huge family gathering and the grandparents chose the early seating) the ongoing joke between all of the cousins was, "Time to eat again?!?!? We just ate!" It really did feel like we were eating every hour. Also, the time it takes to get dressed (out of flip flops and bathing suits) we would need to be back on the ship too early. I'm sure my DS can hang until 8:15 to eat (especially with popcorn/snacks at the show) and he can always do the "dine and play" option if he is starving and wants to get back to the fun.

ETA: Home from work sick with a fever... thinking about my trip is helping me feel better!

Super*mum, hope you feel better soon!

I'm thinking we may keep our late seating, good points about the port times. Plus, all of us like having the Dine and Play option for the twins. Thanks!

mamacrumbcake
02-13-2011, 05:49 PM
We're also at the second seating for dinner. Although my kids usually eat early, we know they won't starve. They probably will grab a snack at Goofy's or Pluto's before the show.

OOOooooOOOO! New thought about late vs. early dining! Is the ship on Pacific or Central Time? If it is on Central than late dining makes even more sense to us Californians.

Thanks wideeyedwonder! I am finally feeling quite a bit better today (day six of this horrid thing). I made it through six hours of work today... I think it must have been the flu as I never get this sick. Opted out of NICU rounds tomorrow just to be safe. Everyone else I know who has it has been sick for about two weeks and most people end up with a secondary infection. Fingers crossed that it runs its course quickly and that it doesn't make it to you!

Glad you're feeling better. We had this last year. ALL of us. It was horrible. and, we all ended up with secondary infections. One with pneumonia.

Has anyone thought about shore excursions? I'm just starting to think about these details. It's SO cold and yucky here in MI right now. I need to think about our warm vacation!!!

I found something new to obsess over for a bit. We are headed to Disneyland in April! Frankly, it was just too long to wait to get my vacation (and Disney) fix. We used to go to DL every two months and then stopped after I realized that six DL trips a year = a trip to Europe. It has been awhile (18 months? more?) and we finally get to see World of Wonder!!! :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

Okay... back to obsessing about the cruise...

At this point we are hoping for Las Caletes in PV, swimming with dolphins in Cabo and ???? I guess I am holding out on the third since I am unsure if we will end up in Mazatlan or not. I was thinking of Salsa and Salsa so I can grub on salsa and drink... followed by making a complete :crazy2: out of myself by dancing. My son was not thrilled about this one, to say the least. :rolleyes1
My Zumba skills have to be shown off! (Actually it is just a sad mess)

The wife and I will be on this cruise after bringing it down from Vancouver. We had hoped, like others, to do the last Alaska cruise and stay on to come home (we live in Los Angeles, about 45-minutes from the port), but alas that did not happen and a five-day cruise is too short. (We've done the Panama Canal twice.)

The 7-night Mexican Riveria will be our first as Gold members, but we know we might have to wait until we get on board to get our Gold lanyards since the computers might not update quickly for the back-to-back folks.

It will be myself, DH, 1 year old son & my 4.5 year old DD. Plus my mom & her husband (still working on the other set of Grandparents.)

I'm really looking forward to following all this information & getting all that I can out of this board to help me prepare for our cruise the best I can.

Can't wait to read more & see all the pics!
See you on the boards!

Welcome luvbnmom! It is our first Disney Cruise too so, while I won't be able to help you with info, I will be super excited along with you to experience DCL!

How exciting for your little ones! My DS will be 10 so he won't have the same magical experience (although he is going to have the time of his life no matter what.. he's that kind of kid). Not sure if you have been as obsessed as I am with finding out everything... however, you may want to look into signing your 4.5 year old for Tea as soon as you board the ship. From what I've read it is a blast for the younger ones and they get a ton of character interaction (for free!). I understand that it "sells out" within the first couple hours after boarding so you may want to work on your sprinting skills. :yay:

We are scheduled for the 04/03/11 Mexican Riveria cruise. Disney deleted one of the ports (Matzatlan) due to "safety reasons". Should we be concerned about the other two ports and safety also? Obviously there is unrest anywhere in the world, but everyone keeps telling us we are "nuts" for going on this cruise. We disagree and figure we can always just stay on the ship if we are not comfortable going ashore at one of the ports. Any opinions?

This is our fourth cruise - three on the actual DCL ships and one in AK using points from our vacation club on Holland America. We LOVE cruises.

:cool1: It is official....We are booked on this cruise!!
Has anyone started a roll call and FE list?? If not, i would be glad to get one started. I am looking forward to getting to know you all better over the next few months! I have never been to Mexico so this will be a first for us.

As this is my first Disney Cruise (and my first FE).... are there going to be "guidelines" in place? I'm just wondering when the date is that we will stop adding people to the list. Also, will each stateroom do deliveries just one day of the cruise or will each stateroom be delivering every day?

The only reason I ask is that I have already started buying gifts and am trying to figure out the logistics (I'll buy fewer more expensive FE gifts if it is just one delivery or a larger amount of less expensive gifts if we are delivering 7 days). Also, I am thinking I may get creative and make something but will wait until the final count is in before I special order the pieces needed to make the FE gift.

I am such a procrastinator with everything in life except things like this (shopping) which I feel the need to do daily. :rotfl:

Cabo San Lucas and Puerta Vallarta are very different ports from Mazatlan. Cabo is very touristy and any unrest in Cabo would end up crushing the town. There also are tons of time-share places in Cabo, many built by U.S. companies.
Puerta Vallarta is a family-oriented town and there is a Wal-Mart right across from the port that you can walk to. You also see many families walking around town.
We've never had any problems in those two ports and we've been there a few times.

You become gold members AFTER you have completed five cruises.

The repo from Vancouver (just before this cruise) will be our fifth cruise so this cruise will be our first gold cruise, but we might have to wait on our gold lanyards since the computers might not be updated when we do the back-to-back march.

We have had to cancel this cruise......I need someone to take over the roster and FE list. Usually there is not any type of guidelines. Feel free to give what you feel comfortable with. I usually just give 1 or 2 gifts per FE and usually pass them out on a sea day. Deadlines are about 1 - 2 months prior to cruise to give last minute additions time to join in.

If someone can take over the lists for me, I would really appreciate it.

Have a great cruise!!!

Kim and DS, sorry you won't be joining us on this cruise.

I'd be happy to take over a FE list...I'll use the names and ID's posted in this thread to compile the list for now, but if it starts getting big, I'll have to think of a better way.

Everyone, for now, please re-post if you want to be included on the FE list. Please include your DIS name, your party information (for kids, please include how old they will be when we sail), and your cabin number (if you have it).

An example would be:

wideeyedwonder
Me-Greg, DW-Sheri, DD(13)-Rebekah, DD(9)-Jojo, DD(9)-Olivia
8092

If you have to cancel the cruise, or otherwise can't participate in the FE exchange, PM me.

If you change your cabin number, please PM me as well.

I'll try to put the list (and keep it up to date) using google docs, so we can all see the latest version.

I'd like to close the FE list 2 weeks before sail date, to give people enough time to shop for the FE gifts.

As some of us may be changing/upgrading cabins at port, I'd like to hear any ideas on how to get updated lists to everyone on the first day on the ship.

Thanks everyone. We are looking forward to September...it looks like we will be staying at the DVC Villas at the Grand Californian for two nights after the cruise, and the parks should be decked out for Halloween! Haunted Mansion Hollidays and "Ghost Galaxy" Space Mountain! Woot! :thumbsup2

Hey Jennifer! We are from Arizona, so we can just drive to LA ... This is our first Disney Cruise! We are so excited! I saw that our kids' ages match up so well! That will be so fun for them to have automatic friends!

Right now, we have 2nd seating for dinner, but would like to try and change it to 1st seating ...

We are already starting on our FE gifts! Have you done that before on your other cruises? I think it will be so fun for my kids! My kids are also wanting to do some pin trading ... do they do much on DCL?
Any other advice for us first timers would be great!
I'm not sure how I am going make it 6 more months! :)

Hi!!! We're going to be in AZ before our cruise and we'll be driving to LA too! We have first seating, but quite honestly, I wouldn't mind second seating. On our other cruises, we had to be back to the ship earlier because we needed to get ready for dinner. And, dd couldn't stay awake for the show after dinner. I think I'd rather feed her early, take her to the show, and then go to dinner. She'll fall asleep on the chairs. So, we may be up for a trade!

Yes, we've always done the FE. It is SO much fun!!!! My kids LOVED coming back to the room to see if there was something there. We're gathering ideas for our gifts. They have to be small because we'll be driving for a month before the cruise and it can't take up much room!

Three of mine do pin trading. They have certain times where they have it on the ship. It's really fun for them!

Advice? Have fun!!! Don't try to over plan. Be ready to go with the flow. I tried to plan WAY too much for our first cruise and had a hard time relaxing for a couple days.

Things we enjoyed:
Wine tasting
kitchen tour
Kids' clubs (the kids are helping me come up with these)
FREE pizza
FREE soda
FREE ice cream (Can you tell the kids are still helping me?)
Photos (we got some wonderful pictures of our family all dressed up - we never do that! They are expensive though, so bring money!)
All the deck parties
The shows
Golf with Donald in the atrium (Ds13 won!)
Kite making (we then used those kites on Castaway Cay - of course, our cruise doesn't stop there!)
Bingo

Things I want to do next time:
martini tasting
Beer tasting (notice a theme? Ds 10 just said, "Mom! She's going to think you're an alcoholic!" No- I just like to taste nice drinks!)
Tea party

There's more, but we've got to get started with schooling (we homeschool!).

Making it through the next six months - HOW DO WE DO IT!? I am seriously obsessed with traveling and we have nothing planned until this trip! We usually do a couple of smaller ones during the summer and we don't this year because this one will be so long for us. So, I sit here and keep planning THIS trip. It feels WAY too far away.

I think I may make up a calendar for my fridge with cute Mickey heads to put on each day. My two youngest love that kind of thing. Once baseball season starts here, we'll be so busy I won't have time to think!! Two of mine are on travel teams and one is in Little League. My 13 yo has been practicing baseball 5x/week for the last three months!

Anyway, that's how I'll stay busy! How about you?????

With 5 kids, there is always something to keep us busy, but I'm sure it is going to be a LONG 6 months til this trip though!
I've got some projects going. I'm working on making our fish extender ... trying to decide if I should make one big long one with 7 pockets, or make 2 ... one for the boys and one for the girls! :)
Found some fun gifts for FE (at our Disney Store outlet)
Ordered some pins for pin trading, and my kids are already having fun trading them. We heard that one night the officers come out and trade with the kids. My DD (6), can't wait to "trade with the Captain" :)

Awesome!! My two oldest run too! My oldest ran the Disney half marathon this past January (I ran the full!!).

The fish extender question!! That's a fun issue to solve, for sure! We opted for one pocket for dh and me and then one for each child on one FE.

I need to order pins for my dd. She just started her collection for her birthday in January.

My biggest issue right now is CLOTHES!!!! I've been working out HARD for the last couple months and I've lost a lot of inches. NONE of my clothes fit anymore. It's a fun problem to have, but I went shopping today with our vacation/summer in mind. Tried on 90 things. Walked out with 3. I want to wear cute clothes on our trip!!! But, I have to find them first.

So excited to come home today and find a package filled with kids FE gifts! I think shopping for FE stuff (and our trip to DL) will help me get through a few of the days but I booked this trip back in June or July... I don't think I've ever waited this long for anything! Usually if I want to go somewhere I book it and in a couple months I'm on a plane. Perhaps this is teaching me a good life lesson.... I'll let you know what it is when I figure it out :rotfl:

This is the first year my DS didn't play baseball since preschool. It was a tough decision for him but his team had been together since kindergarten and this was the first year all but two players decided to stop. They have a pact that they will start back up next year. For this season we are a water polo family (though I do miss watching baseball and getting a tan instead of sitting in the freezing cold at night by a pool!).

FE gifts - what a FUN box!!! Makes it all feel more real and closer! We always book way ahead because we need connecting rooms, so we're used to waiting. But, because this trip is more expensive, we aren't doing two trips this year, so this feels WAY too far away.

We figured out what we're doing for the FE gifts. Now to make them . . .

How old are your kids again? I don't know what I'd do if my kids decided not to play!! Baseball games are my social life during the spring and summer!! Water polo sounds fun though!!!

It's feeling closer!!!! I just made our reservations for the night before our cruise! We'll be at the Doubletree San Pedro. Free parking, free shuttle. $149/night for 2 queen beds!!!! I'm still deciding where to stay in LA for the couple days before the cruise. I'm thinking the Residence Inn in Burbank. We'd have enough points to get two free nights. It's in the middle of everything we want to do in LA (Disney, Angels' game, Hollywood Blvd/Sign, etc). Anyone stayed there?

I also made our reservations in Las Vegas for the night after our cruise!! We'll be two nights at the Venetian. If you've been there, let me know what you think. We liked it because the rooms are all suites and when you have 6 people in the family, we need room!!!!

I have one DS9 (will be 10 in a couple months). I know what you mean by it being your social life! Especially since we have had the same team for years it is always a party on the field (we are the team everyone is jealous of... though not for skill.... we've got food, drinks, a bbq, cakes, amazing photogs.. and we can SCREAM!). We are always doing sleepovers, beach days, bonfires, etc. after the games. It is such an odd year.

Oh well... at least with water polo I don't have to keep a sharp eye on my DS in the pool during the cruise. He can tread water for at least an hour-and-a-half!

Sorry! No info for you on the hotels you are staying at. Have not stayed at the Venetian but it is a very nice hotel (from what I remember :scared1: )

I was going back and forth about staying at the Doubletree or Crowne Plaza before the trip but am now thinking we might drive down the morning of just because I don't want to unpack at the hotel and have to repack. If you factor in the $12 a day savings by leaving your car at the hotel that is quite a deal for the Doubletree!

What a sad, sad day for Japan. My prayers go out to them.

Here on the Cali central coast we got to experience a much much tamer version of a tsunami:

wideeyedwonder... I saw the same footage that morning.. including the two idiots who kept jumping in front of the camera guy waving, causing a scene, and taking their sweatshirts off. Couldn't help it but all I could think was, "Darwinism at its finest." (For the idiots who had hours of warning to get away from the beach... not the victims of this tragedy)

As for Japan, that is truly terrifying. They are all in my thoughts. We took an "emergency trip" up to San Fran this weekend. I called my closest friend on Friday morning (who now lives in SF) and she was hysterical as she was unable to reach her family in Japan. We went there to take her mind off of everything. Luckily they are all accounted for and well. My heart and thoughts go out to those who aren't and fear what long term effects this will have (radiation in the water, etc.). The photos that wideeyedwonder posted are less than a mile from a nuclear power plant where we live. Terrifying to think what could have happened here and what others are experiencing there.

Supermom - thank GOD your friend's family was okay. Were they anywhere near the quake/tsunami?

Hi Karen!!! Welcome! (Sorry if you posted before - I need to print out a list of everyone so I can keep track!!)

So, I decided that I needed to know when our next trips were coming and I've booked two more!!! We'll be back at Disney in Jan to run the half and full marathon. We'll take our niece along too. And, I booked Oasis of the Seas for next August! Anyone been on that ship? My boys are SO excited. Meg is sad because there aren't princesses there.

My kids met and loved ALL youth counselors when we brought the wonder over from Florida...... My prayers go out and I hope they find her.

"LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A search is underway for a Disney cruise ship crew member feared to be lost on the high seas.

The woman was last seen on Tuesday, hours before the Disney Wonder docked in Puerto Vallarta. According to passengers on the cruise ship, the missing woman works in the ships youth program."

Forgot to post a couple weeks ago but wanted to mention, for all you locals, that the gallery in Disneyland is featuring boat and ship themed artwork. Mostly art related to the Dream but there were a couple Wonder pieces. We happened to walk in there on our last day at the park and it was completely meant to be. Normally when we leave Disneyland (even when we went every couple months) we be bummed. This time, when we left, we were excited about experiencing DCL for the first time!

It was an excellent (and BUSY) spring break. Didn't realize that there were a ton of schools with the first week of April off. Keeping that in mind for next year!

Welcome DVC Corrys!

australiankaren - No new news on the itinerary. My reservation still shows Mazatlan (in multiple places online). However, based on the increasing violence (don't Google... it will only make you want to cling to the ship in fear) I can't imagine Disney stopping there any time soon. If the Wonder does stop there, I would imagine there will be quite the party on board that day!

When do you think they will change the itin?I'd rather go to the same place twice than stay on the boat if its not safe.
Is there an email address we can write to ,to ask for the change???Who do we talk to??

Hi Karen.

No, you will not be the only couple on board. My DW and I will be there as well and we will be bringing the ship down from Vancouver first and then staying on for the MR. After sailing with Disney on two 15-day cruises, a five-day cruise was too short.

According to the website (I just looked) they have us listed on Itinerary C, which is: Board, sea day, sea day, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, Cabo San Lucas, sea day, Los Angeles.

The change they have been making is to remove Mazatlan and have another day in Cabo San Lucas. However, since the ship tenders in Cabo San Lucas, you cannot get off and on during the night. (We were able to, however, in Aruba, on the PC cruise and the crew loved that more than the guests did since many do not work at night.)

Just found out that our school board decided to change the dates of our fall break, back a week ... so my kids won't be out of school until Oct.1
We have 2 weeks, but originally fall break was supposed to start on Sept 25, so this cruise was going to be perfect.
Now, i am looking at the Oct 2 or Oct 9 cruise, and the prices have gone up! Boo!
Also, I am sad that we won't be sailing with this group, as there were so many other kids that were going to match up with my kids' ages.
Anyway, you will have to remove the 7evans from the FE and we will have to figure out when we can go.
so sorry, but at least glad that we found out now, and not later.
Have a great cruise, and I look forward to hearing all about it, as we will probably be getting on as you are all getting off! :)

hi there,

good to see that there will be a few DINK's on board....we love to chat to people, but it can be a bit awkward sometimes if they have kids as we dont want to give off "that" vibe.....

looking forward to hanging out at the adult pool, doing the spa, sipping cocktails at the bar by the pool and trying to master running on the treadmill whilst at sea:yay:

this cruise we intend to NOT get every morning breakfast room service and surface before midday from our cabin [ok, maybe thats a bit too much].

re itin, i dont know whether to book excursions for mazatlan, as everyone is saying how dangerous it is, may not be worth the risk...so another day by the pool:dance3:

counting down the days til we fly out, so i only have, according to my calculations 53 days to sort my excursions......PANIC

have a great day

I have no idea about the FE either. I keep searching all over the internet. I think I've worked out how to make my FE although I've discovered them for sale both on Etsy and Ebay but think I'd like the challenge of attempting to make one myself. Then with regards to the gifts I'm not sure if we provide one or one for each person in the cabin based on the information we have. I think my countdown now says 156 days. I can't wait.

Hi! Info for making a Fish extender are in this link-even instructions on how to make a no sew one. Not being at all crafty, I did order one from ebay....

We did this cruise in March during spring break-there were two stops at Cabo and one in PV. We felt safe in both those ports. Did a city tour in PV and really enjoyed it, however, I probably would avoid going during spring break again. Next time in PV, we hope to do the Pirate Ship excursion.

In Cabo, we did a catamaran excursion-it was just okay. However, some of our table mates did the Dolphin Swim and really enjoyed it. On our second stop, we just got off the ship, and wandered about on our own.

Sorry, haven't been on this thread for a very long time.....so I'm Janice and will be sailing with my DS Trevor.

Hi

Thanks for the FE link.

We're looking at doing the city tour in PV. We are more interested in tours that include culture, art and sightseeing than beaches and swimming. We are lucky we get to go to the beach any time we want in Australia.

yukongirl123

We live pretty far north, so the few beaches we have are for the very hardy-they don't get warm enough for me.

I like the city tours also, it's the best way to see an area when your time there is limited.

Thanks for the link on the no sew FE. I'm going to use it as a help to try and sew one too. How do the gifts work. Do you provide one gift suitable for everyone or try and provide a gift for each person in each cabin?

As for trips we will have our 4 year old daughter so we really just want to be able to get an idea of each port.

There really are no rules for FE gifts. Some people give a gift for the entire cabin, some will give gifts for each individual, some people give just to the kids. It's really what you're comfortable doing.

On our last cruise I gave out a cabin gift earlt in the cruise, then later in the week, we gave out age appropriate 'little treasures' to teens and kids.

If there are a lot of cabins, some of these FE lists can be a 100 cabins or more, you probably won't want to spend all your free time wandering the ship to deliver them.

If the list is smaller 10-20 cabins, I don't mind delivering gifts more than once. Sometimes, I'll do a floor per day. We do enjoy walking around and looking at how other folks decorate their doors.

It's all meant to be just a bit of fun...

Hi everyone!
We just put down our deposit for the 9/25 sailing of the Wonder and we're SOOOOO excited!! :cool1:

Three of us are traveling (so far -- I'm hoping to convince a few other family members to come along too!). My DH and I will be with my DD who is 9 years old. This will be my third Disney Cruise, but it will be their first. We are all Disney fanatics, so I'm so excited for them to have the DCL experience!

I just skimmed through this thread and it looks like there are a few others who will be traveling with girls around my DD's age.... although a few people have backed out so I'm finding it hard to figure out exactly who is still in and who isn't. Since she'll be the "only child" on this cruise (she has a step brother and two half-sisters at home, but they aren't coming), I'm hoping I can help her meet some kids her age she can hang out and have fun with.

Anyway! Just poking my head in to say hi! I was so excited to see a thread for our sailing since the boards make it seem like everyone's sailing on the Dream lately!!

I am planning on calling in a favor from one of my 4 friends I helped move this year...

We have booked to stay at the Doubletree San Pedro for the night before and leave our car there using their "Magical Cruise Package"

I wonder where everyone else is hiding out? I must be the only one obsessing about our vacation FOUR MONTHS AHEAD OF TIME!!!

We're trying to decide if we're going to drive down a day ahead of time and spend the night on Saturday... or just drive down Sunday morning. It's only about 5 hours so we should have plenty of time, but I'm afraid I'll be stressing about getting a flat tire or something ...lol

So far I've only seen people mention the Doubletree as having a park and cruise deal. Have any of you seen any others?

Oh well I'm also obsessing. This is our first cruise and our first Disney cruise and I want to make sure we get the most out of it. I have a disney countdown going on my Ipad and tell my husband every evening how many days to go. We live in Phoenix so have decided to drive across the day before and have booked into the Doubletree. We are actually then staying on for 6 days after in Dana Point and have rented a condo for the week so we can have a trip to Disneyland too. I'm starting to work out how to make my own Fish Extender and have all these fantastic ideas and I want to try. I have also started finding gifts for the FE too. Don't worry I'll join you in all the obsessing!

Yay a fellow obsesser!! I actually think half the fun of a vacation is planning it. Makes it last longer! :)

Are you planning on making door decorations? I love looking at the pictures of everyone's cute doors and I think it would be a fun little project for my DD and me to work on while she's home from school this summer. I REALLY love the Mickey Ears/Goofy Hats people put around their door numbers, but I guess I need to do some more research into it because I can't figure out how they know exactly how big to make them.

At the moment we are making t-shirts. I found some disney t-shirts at Jo-Anns that you fabric paint. It has taken me almost 3 weeks with a little bit every now and then and we've almost finished the first one. I found the fumes from the fabric paint pens just a little too much. Next I plan to start working out how to make my FE and then, yup, I'd like to make some magnets to go on the door. I suspect I will cruise clipart etc and see if I can add something into "Paint" before printing off onto large magnets. Hats on door numbers...I'll have to try and find pictures of those.

Fun! We haven't told my DD yet, so I can't really start working on anything until she knows. We're waiting to be 100% sure my DH can get off work for that week. Her birthday is June 20th... which is right around the time we need to pay in full... so we're thinking of telling her on her birthday, wrapping something in a gift box or something like that.

I would link you to a picture of one of the Mickey-Head-over-the-room-number thingies but I still can't link...lol

It's OK after reading your note I did a search and found a thread that included links on how to make all the various hats. I'll take a closer look at them later and I think it is coming up time to go out and buy myself some magnetic "paper".

I surprised my son a few years ago with a Disneyland trip for his Birthday. Made a special card using a design I had found on the DIS, and using my best Mickey Mouse handwriting, wrote a note inviting Trevor to spend his birthday at Disneyland. He was pretty excited to receive that invitation.

Only 8 rooms doing FE? I may have over bought. Not shocking.

I was ridiculously excited about this cruise for the last 10 months and lately I haven't been checking these boards as much. I am sure there is a correlation there (and the crazy increased stress at work).

I need to start obsessing again... this will help:

8 more weeks until I can book my excursions/Palo ressie!!!! :cheer2:

I am actually excited about doing Palo alone. At first I thought it may be weird with all the couples having a romantic time but the idea of reading on my Kindle while someone stuffs me full of (what I imagine to be) wonderful food sounds too good to be true!

How fun!! I need to get creative and come up with a fun way to spring this on her.

And Supermum... That's great that you're gonna take the plunge and go to Palo's alone. I'm sure you're gonna get A LOT of attention from the servers and you'll have a great time!

I actually think we're gonna skip out on the Palo's experience this time. We don't get many chances to enjoy dinner together all of us as a family so I'd hate to miss out on any opportunity.

I hope we get decent table mates. I've had a few pretty lame table mates in the past so I'm always a little anxious about that!

Did anyone else receive a phone call today about our cruise? They've revised our itinerary - two stops at Cabo. They cancelled Mazatlan. Gotta say - after they cancelled it in the spring, I didn't see how Mazatlan could improve things enough that it;d be safe for us in the fall. So, I'm glad!!! Plus, I hear Cabo is beautiful!

They may be others that join the FE group as the cruise date draws closer, that happens a lot.

I think Palo w/b great to do alone. The staff is veryy attentive and it has such a nice ambience.

We are thinking of zip lining in PV and I know we're going to do a snorkeling catamaran trip my DH and I did on our honeymoon cruise a few years back in Cabo. Not sure what we're gonna do with our 2nd day in Cabo, though.

I'm kind of annoyed with the DCL port adventures because most of them say "ages 12 or up," but if you book the same exact tour NOT through DCL (zip lining in PV for instance), they allow 8 and up. I don't know why they do that, but it has given us no choice but to book our excursions on our own.

We received the telephone call yesterday. I suppose I ought to sit down and start looking at trips to do. We're a little more/lot more limited as my daughter only turns 4 on May 30th (currently running round the house on a food high). She finishes school tomorrow but have her signed up for Summer school starting June 1st.

I'm also just starting to pull together bits and pieces for FE exchange and also things we're going to need knowing that if I see them now I ought to get them because I know when September rolls around and I want them they won't be there.

Looking forward to meeting more of you on the trip!pirate:

I am subscribed to this thread so when I received an email on my iPhone about the call from Disney I rushed home.. sure enough we got the recorded message too. (I am thinking that I want to give them my cell number now just in case anything else pops up.)

According to the website we are "Itinerary A" now:

Day Port Ashore Onboard
1 Los Angeles, California — 4:00 p.m.
2 At Sea — —
3 At Sea — —
4 Puerto Vallarta, Mexico 7:30 a.m. 7:00 p.m.
5 Cabo San Lucas, Mexico 11:15 a.m. 7:00 p.m.
6 Cabo San Lucas, Mexico 7:15 a.m. 1:30 p.m.
7 At Sea — —
8 Los Angeles, California 9:30 a.m. —

That second Cabo day is pretty short.

So now what I am obsessing over is what day (assuming I have any choice) to do Palo. Since this is our first cruise I don't want to miss the Animator's Palate show, Pirate's Night (or any other of the themed dining nights). Any thoughts?

Thanks for posting the itinerary. When we were on this cruise in March, we did Cabo, PV and Cabo again... You can still find lots to do in Cabo, even on a short stay. Water taxi are readily avaiable at the pier, so you could always take one to the beach, take a mini cruise to the arch and sea lion rock. Also, there is a market right at the end of the pier.

I'm not sure if you can find out your dining rotation beforehand or not. You could get in touch with DCL and request a specific rotation, and at least let you know which nights are formal, semi formal and pirates night. I know that you will be in each restaurnt at least twice, but Animators will have the show only once during any rotation. If you wanted to try Palo, brunch could be a good option for you instead of dinner. Then you could be in the dining rooms every night.

You could also check with Palo once on board to see if they can fit you in. Often there are empty tables, because people who have previously booked don't show up.

Hmm that itinerary sure changes things up for me! The snorkeling cruise we were planning on doing in Cabo leaves at 11AM, so that's not gonna be able to happen. Bummer! :sad2:

yukongirl: I didn't realize you were just on this cruise in March. AWESOME!! Question for you (or anyone who might know) ... I really want early seating and we were told it was full so we are "on the waiting list" now, but assigned late seating. I can't remember what the procedure is for trying to change that. Do you have any experience with that?

yukongirl123
05-21-2011, 07:20 PM
While we prefer early seating, the cruise in March was kind of last minute, so we were assigned late seating. We went to Rocking D Bar when we boarded, and asked to be moved to the early seating. The first three days, the restaurant manger and said that nothing was avaible. On the fourth day, he called again and said something had opened up. By that time, we really had gotten to know our tablemates and wanted to stay with them.

The March cruise was really busy, lots of famities and kids because of spring break. This cruise may not be as crowded though....

Yup. 10 minutes!! We stayed at one of the port hotels even! We told them it was on our way home from WDW (we'd just spent a week there) and I had booked it on points. Heehee. It was great!!!

Excursions - In Cabo we were thinking of a couple things -
1. Beach Getaway for all of us
2. Split up - Canopy Adventure for the older and the Dolphin Swim for the rest of us.
3. The teenagers want to do the surfing one. But, I'm nervous about them going off themselves.

PV
1. Canopy (if they didn't do it in Cabo)
2. Paradise Beach
3. City Tour
4. On our own - Crown Paradise Club Hotel. i wrote to them and they said it is $35/day for adults and kids 6 − 12 are $18. All-inclusive!
4. On our own - Las Animes Adventure Park Beach Break. They have ziplines for the younger ones and things to do for the adults too, so we wouldn't have to split up.

I'm a little nervous about doing things on my own though. We did it a number of times in the Caribbean, but all the press about Mexico has me a little nervous!!!

On our MR cruise in March, we had tablemates that did the Dolphin encounter and just loved it. Our other tablesmates did the zipline in PV and had a blast. We did the Land's End Coastal cruise-it was a bit boring. On our short day in Cabo, we just got of the ship and wandered about on our own.

We did the City Tour in PV and really enjoyed it, it gave a good overview of PV, and our guide was very knowledgeable. My son really enjoyed the Pinata Party at the end. This cruise, we are hoping to do the pirate ship encounter.
I would love to do the zipline, but my son has some physical & developmental issues that prevent him from this type of activity.

I'm the same. We have always booked things on our own (and saved lots of money doing it!!), but now I'm kinda thinking it might be worth the extra money to have a little bit more peace of mind. I don't feel too concerned about Cabo, but I do worry a little bit about PV.

If we had to choose excursions today, I think we'd do the Las Caletas Hideaway in PV and the Beach Resort Getaway in Cabo. Although, I emailed Cabo Saling (cabo sailing dot com) yesterday and they got back to me right away with a really nice email and a good price for a 3 1/2 hour snorkeling sailboat cruise. I've read some great reviews, so after we find out for sure about DH's time off work this week, we might just go ahead and take the plunge and book it.

On the short day in Cabo we'll probably just roam around on our own. Maybe we'll rent a waverunner or something. We'll probably just play that one by ear.

It's easy to do Cabo on your own. Ther's a market at the end of the pier. Also water taxi are readily available-you could go to the beach near the Arches ( forget the name) and/or take a mini cruise to sea lion rock. I felt really safe doing this port on our own.

Therefore... still trying to figure out Cabo. The short Cabo day I am thinking we will just walk around and go to a restaurant. Nothing major.

Doesn't that look great!?! I have read mixed reviews, but looking over their website and their YouTube video, it looks perfectly awesome to me! My daughter just went on a cruise last month with her dad and they went on the Los Veranos canopy zip lining tour and she absolutely LOVED it, so I know she's gonna push to go back and do that again. But I keep thinking about Las Caletas and everything about it looks like something I wanna do, so mommy might have to win this one. ;)

We'll be there too! My DH and I are celebrating my 40th bday. We are big Disney fans and love DCL so it's the BEST birthday gift!!!

We also have 2nd dining...looks like we'll have a lot of "friends" in the dining room. :thumbsup2

We looked at Cabo excursions a few weeks ago and decided we wanted to do B.O.B (underwater "snuba" on moterized scooters). When I looked at the Disney Cruise website this weekend and it's no longer listed. Do you think there's a chance they will add it back? We were really excited to try this. If not we'll probably do the Discover Diving tour.

On our short day in Cabo we plan to book Parasailing on our own.

In PV we're planning to try the zip lines.

We haven't decided if we are pre-booking the parasailing or not. I really want to make sure we get to do it. But since Disney doesn't offer parasailing so I have to book on our own and I'm not confident that DCL won't make other changes to our itinerary I don't want to book and then our cabo day change. I did come across one site that offered parasailing and have a refund policy if your ship doesn't dock. So that may be an option.

yukongirl: I didn't realize you were just on this cruise in March. AWESOME!! Question for you (or anyone who might know) ... I really want early seating and we were told it was full so we are "on the waiting list" now, but assigned late seating. I can't remember what the procedure is for trying to change that. Do you have any experience with that?

We rebooked this cruise in March and ended up with late dining, so I asked to be on the waiting list also. When I checked my reservation this morning, I saw that it had changed from late to early dining. Maybe you could send them an email and inquire about your dining?

Oh how lucky!! I am SO praying we get ours changed.

Who would I email at DCL? I just clicked around the reservations area and I didn't see any contact info. I just sent a quick note to our TA asking if she has any suggestions for getting us moved to early seating, but I'd probably have better luck contacting them directly.

I imagine that plenty of main seating options will open up in the next couple of days now that DCL is offering Kids Sail free on MR cruises from 10/30-12/18. I am sure quite a few families will be "jumping ship" to save money a month later. Since I am just a party of two it won't save me anything... plus, I am hoping to catch that summer beach weather!

Keep watching for main dining to open up!

...and we'll be bringing her to LA for this cruise right out of dry dock!

We will be doing the same thing. We find that 7-days is too short to cruise after our first cruise was the 2008 Westbound Panama Canal. We did it again this year and stayed on the for the Cruise to Nowhere, but that was too much. Besides, I was sick for both of them and spent most of my time in the cabin.

This is a make-up cruise for me and, more importantly, the wife. We also will be celebrating our 11th wedding anniversary on semi-formal night, so that will be nice. Trying to get Palo for that night.

This is silly but I have to share with yall cuz I know you are the only ones who might understand my excitement!

DH and I have been trying to figure out how we're going to tell our DD about the cruise as one of her birthday presents on her birthday in a couple weeks (She still doesn't know). I was trying to think of some little cruise-themed trinket I could wrap in a box... maybe stick a note in with it that explains the surprise.

So Friday night we went to the Disney Outlet store we have here in town. I LOVE going there because it gets me in the Disney mood! They get all of the cast-offs from Disneyland/WDW and sell them for 50% off or more. Usually it's their old t-shirts... Hannah Montana and stuff that's not really popular any more... but every once in a while you can find a gem. I thought maybe they'd have a Disney Cruise themed t-shirt or something I could wrap.

Well, we found these great Pirate-themed Mickey ears!! (Don't you love the hoop earring? lol)

http://photopost.wdwinfo.com/uploads/105721/MicEars.jpg

So we bought three of them (one for each of us) and we're going to wrap those with a note that we'll be wearing these on PIRATE'S NIGHT on the ship in September! I can't wait to have her unwrap them! She's going to totally freak out. :yay:

She knows we usually try and plan some sort of vacation for September, and the last 2 Septembers we went to WDW to take advantage of their Free Dining deal... so the other day she said "are we going to go to Disney World again this year??" I said "Hmm I don't know... we've done it twice in a row now. Maybe we should try something new." She thought for a while and said "Wouldn't it be so cool to go on a Disney CRUISE??!!! They showed it on Disney Channel and it looks AWESOME!!!" She went on and on about how fun it would be. It was so hard to not say anything! I know she's going to be so excited. I can't wait!!

Thanks for listening to me ramble!

You are better than me! There is no way I could keep that secret so well!!! My son always knows when I have a secret trip planned... I always talk around or about things related to where we are going (I am completely obvious but I try so hard!). When I finally tell him he is thrilled and jumps for joy but always says later that he had kind of figured it out already. This trip I am making him "pay for." Which means he is doing weekly chores (for inflated wages) and putting a couple birthday twenties towards it. He already has it paid off and now is working toward paying for excursions and souvenirs. I wasn't sure how I would like this... sure, it is a good life lesson but I was worried he would eventually say, "Forget it! I don't want to vacuum... let's skip the trip." but luckily that never happened! He has worked harder and has been happy to do it! Probably will go back to the surprise trips from here on out as they are much more fun to plan (like finding cool pirate ears!) but it was a good lesson for him (age 10). I get the feeling I will book our next cruise on board and I will do my hardest to keep it a secret... though I may crawl out of my skin.

I love the pirate ears!!! Another fun thing you could do is make an old treasure map (soak paper in tea to yellow it... maybe burn the edges... safely of course) and make her hunt for the treasure chest that contains the ears. And I completely agree with Jennifer... you MUST get her reaction on tape!

I love that he's earning the cruise! When we went to WDW last year, our DD had to earn her spending money. I've never gotten so much work out of her in my life! It was great! lol

The treasure map idea is so great! I love it! We actually did a "treasure hunt" to tell her about our first trip to Disney World a couple of years back but it didn't go so well (more on that below). Maybe we should re-try it! Ha!

She'll be turning 9 on her birthday. I'll definitely tape her reaction. As I mentioned above... we actually did a "treasure hunt" when we booked our first trip to WDW and I taped the whole hunt and her reaction. It was quite a let-down!! She was 6 at the time and she didn't quite "get it" when the final thing said we were going to Disney World. I was so excited to tape this AWESOME reaction and instead I got a really confused look and silence. I think she thought we were playing some kind of game.... We had to explain to her that we were actually going to Disney World!! It took a good minute or so for it to sink in, and when it did, it was adorable... it just wasn't quite the Kodak moment I had hoped it would be ... :rotfl:

The cabin number is 7610. How many people are participating as of right now? Do you have an official list (number of people/ages of kids, etc.) going? Are you going to have a cut-off date that people can add, just so that we can plan quantities easier?

Ok... I have a secret. I am literally shaking with excitement and can not make eye contact with my son or I'm sure to spill the beans. (From my previous post about how I do with secrets ,you should know that I am near a coronary and suppressing the word vomit).

My DS and I are going to Kauai the week prior to the cruise! I bought the tickets a couple hours ago. I had been going back and forth about this for the last week. My mother is going with us to Kauai.. and possibly on the cruise (I put a hold on a room for her but she doesn't know yet). I am waiting until we are all in one place (my mom, my son and I) to let my DS know and sort out the details... and there are a lot of details to sort out!

One detail you all may be able to help with... particularly those who are flying in to LAX. We will be arriving back to LAX from Kauai on 9/24 late at night. I am trying to decide what to do as far as a hotel goes. Here are a couple options... does anyone have any thoughts? Is there another scenario that may be better?

- Stay at a hotel near LAX that offers a "park and fly" option and leave my car at the hotel while on the cruise ship. I could take some sort of taxi, Disney Transfer, etc. to the port.

- Take my car from LAX to a port hotel that offer a "park and cruise" option and leave my car at the hotel while cruising.

What are my fellow flyers doing for pre-cruise accommodations?

SoccrMom I'm not the official FE person but I'm new to cruising, new to Disneycruise and I'd probably call myself Obsessive compulsive when it comes to organisation so I spent a little while working my way back through all the feed and putting together my own list.

At the moment I have:

Adults x 18
Children x 19

Split over 8 cabins I think. I don't know if that is any help. A few pages back in the posts (not long) I did put my current list up. I think I've added 2 families since then (yourself included).

I say go for it ;). Of course, I would love to help you out with anything you need (I would volunteer to take it on, but I tried that on the last cruise, then started back to school, got overwhelmed right before the cruise and had to pass it on to someone else).

My biggest suggestion: a date in which no one new can add to the list. This makes it much easier for those of us who are making homemade FE gifts to plan for how much we need.

OK so this is my list as it stands today:

M4 Travels: Michael & Marc

Super*Mum: AD (Heather) & DS (Slater, 10) - FE Awaiting Cabin No

Yukongirl123: Janice & DS (Trevor) - FE Awaiting Cabin No

Kawigirl: Tracy, DMom (JoAnn) & DD (Stephanie - FE Cabin 7122

Mikmouse: 2 x AD

PrincessBelle39: 2 x AD; 2 x DD (9 & 6)

Jennifer_in_MI: Steve & Jennifer, DS x 3 (Sam 15, Andrew 13 & William 11), DD (Margaret 5) - Cabins 6620 & 6622 Are you doing FE?

Johngar: 2 x AD

LimoFam5: 2 x AD; 2 x DD (Carly 6 & Maile 5) - FE Awaiting Cabin No

Wideeyedwonder: 2 x AD (Greg & Sheri); 3 x DD (Rebekah 13, JoJo, 9 & Olivia 9) - FE Cabin No 8092

Mamacrumbcake: 2 x AD (Karen & John), 2 x DD (Madeline 13, Tina 11) - FE Awaiting Cabin No

Australiankaren: 2 x AD (Karen & Tony) - Cabin No: 6580

Luvbnmom: 2 x AD; DS (1); DD (4); DMom & DDad

DVC_Corry's: 2 x AD; Baby

Swx72 (Me): 2 x AD (Sigrid & John); DD (Kirsten 4) - FE Cabin No: 6632

Aussiefan: 2 x AD (Cathy & David); 2 x DD (Brittany 14, Sarah 11) - FE Cabin No: 7562

Lostinyonkers: 2 x AD; DD (9)

RJLechner: 2 x AD

SoccrMom: 2 x AD; 2 x DS (Mark 14, Drew 11) - FE Cabin No: 7610

Please let me know if I have missed anyone. I think we need to set cut-off for the FE to be 2 weeks' before which would make it 09/11/11 for that reason alone I hope people don't mind but I'm going to make it a day earlier so cut off is: 09/10/11.

Thanks RJLechner I have added you both to the list and Jennifer_In_MI I have also added the confirmation that you are doing FE. OK as this is my first cruise and first FE do I need to also ask you who is going to be in which cabin. Are you going to have an FE outside of each cabin or just one between the 2 cabins?

I can't believe countdown is now finally at almost 100 days!

Thank you for volunteering to organize!!! Just want to note that at one time I know WideEyedWonder was organizing the FE. He hasn't been on here in awhile. Perhaps you should PM him to see if he is still interested in organizing.

Can I put in a request of making the cut off earlier than two weeks before? I know that some people are doing other things before (parks, touring CA, etc.) and it would be stressful and, in some cases, impossible to accommodate someone who joined that late. Just a thought. Discuss amongst yourselves.

We are starting our vacation a week before this cruise starts, that isn't enough time to organize any last minute FE participants. On all our other cruises the cut-off date was at least a month before......

Thanks I just contacted WideEyedWonder about the FE list as I certainly don't want to step on anyone's toes. As you will have seen from previous posts this is my first cruise and, therefore first FE too, so I'm looking for as much help, so to speak as I can get. Would those of you who are travelling prior to the cruise be happier with a date such as Saturday 27 August as a cut-off?

Ok... I have a secret....
My DS and I are going to Kauai the week prior to the cruise! I bought the tickets a couple hours ago.

I'm a little late on this... just had gallbladder surgery on Friday and finally getting back to being able to sit at the computer.... but WOW I have to say I AM SO JEALOUS!!! In fact I am so jealous of so many of you who have vacations starting before our cruise!! How fun!!!! I wanna come along!!

Sorry I can't help with the pre-cruise hotel situation. We still aren't sure what we're going to do either. :confused3

Hey we're almost down to the double-digits! 99 days sounds SO much better than 100... don't you think!?

We'll have one FE on one of the doors. I don't think you can miss it - it's five pockets long! LOL

I agree - 99 days sounds MUCH better than 100!!! Close!!! Our family leaves for our cross-country drive on 9/11, so technically, I'm under 100. But, really the vacation is the cruise for me!!!!

That sounds awful! I guess the positive of this is that it was dealt with, and manifested, before the big trip! Who wants GI problems with all that delicious food waiting to be eaten? In all seriousness, I truly hope you are feeling better!!!
