Boma lacking???

I guess I am in the minority on the forum. My family did NOT like Boma's.

All the food was sweet. The broccoli had way TOO much garlic.

The only thing we liked was the humus and bread and potato bacon soup.

Zebra domes didn't do a thing for us. We didn't like them but hear so much raving about them on here.

I'm also in the minority. I don't eat any meat, so I was really looking forward to it since I read that it's great for vegetarians. I have to agree that the food was all sweet. The rice had raisins in it, and the food was only lukewarm. I also read that the Zebra Domes were not to be missed. I didn't think they were very good. My friend ate the Prime Rib and liked it, but that's about it. So I guess there are some of us out here that didn't really care for Boma. I read that the breakfast is really good, so I might try that sometime.

Count me in also. It just wasn't my kind of food. I am a very adventurous eater, but I don't like everything sweet. That was my main problem. I would have really liked the carrot and ginger soup if it hadn't been so sweet and had more ginger. I want to try making it at home. There were a few salads I liked. I liked the zebra domes okay, but I liked the mango panna cotta more.

Also, I have to say we didn't wait but 5 minutes before being seated. Our reservations were 5pm. So that is a plus . BUT a person had to wait in a long line to get food. The server said we could start at either end but everyone would line up near the meat and wouldn't let you in if you came in the opposite direction. :confused3

My son will not turn down salmon any way it is cooked except for Boma's. he said, " fish is not meant to be sweet." LOL

Both myself and my DGF loved Boma both times we have been there. I do agree there is an abundance of sweet food in the buffet line, but certain things like the pork shoulder, potato and bacon soup, seafood gumbo, falafel, hummus, zebra domes and the upside down pineapple cheesecake really are worth my $30 bucks. I know it's not for everyone, but whenever I hear people complain about Boma, it just puzzles me.

I am sure there are restaurants that you dislike and I love. Many people dislike LTT and call the food microwave meals but I find it quite good and "down to earth" compared to the extravagant food I ate all week.

DH loves the soups!! Absolutely loved the experience, dd loved the setting, walking around, so much in the Lodge as well as the trail to see the animals -

DD didnt try the zebra domes- shes 12 and didnt want to try anything labeled "may contain alcohol" She couldnt believe that Disney would have alcoholic desserts! :rotfl2: I told her she couldnt (or I couldnt) taste any "burn" or any "alcohol" she just shook her head...:sad2:

I was also disappointed to find that I didn't enjoy Boma. After reading so many reviews on here, I was so excited to be going and I couldn't believe it when I realised I didn't like it! I felt like a failure. I think, like others have said, it's to do with the sweetness of the food there. Never mind, you can't like everything I suppose! We are open to trying the breakfast out on our next trip so I'll see how that goes. :)

You are not alone my friend...while we love breakfast at Boma dinner did nothing for us. The only items we enjoyed were the falafel balls, the prime rib and the bread pudding.

I am so glad others thought the food was sweet. At first, we thought our taste buds were playing tricks until everyone at the table began making comments.

While it wasn't awful, we won't go back. It is something we didn't enjoy other than walking around the resort. I would LOVE to stay there one day.

We went back in 2002 and hated the food! Everything dish we tried was either cloyingly sweet or just had a weird flavor. Plus, nothing was hot. The prime rib was so cold, the fat on it was solid white. :sick:

Last trip, one member of our party wanted to try it. We considered it, but after reading many reviews here in which the "sweetness" of the food was talked about, we decided against it.

I went there a couple years ago and I didn't have a good time either. I had to wait forever to get a seat due to overbooking. And by the time we sat down to eat, we were really trying to see if the food was going to be worth it.

It wasn't. I think I liked about 2 or 3 items on the buffet. The rest was either OK or not good. The desserts were just OK. In other words, it wasn't what I thought it was going to be, and not worth the hype, IMO.

But this thread got me thinking: What WDW restaurant pleasantly surprised you with good food? I guess I would go ahead and start that thread...
