Enjoy your time off!!!

I've decided to have a healthier new year... even if it kills me... :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I've got a Dr's appt on Monday and PT after that and then I think I deserve to find some palm trees somewhere and park my little behind under one and soak up the sun...

2009 was just such a strange year... I'm glad it's over... :upsidedow

:thumbsup2 Sounds like a great plan! I'd like to find some palm trees to park my butt under too, we should actually be getting some in soon at our store for our January sales, that's about as close as I'm going to get for a while

Happy 2010 everyone!

Trying to figure out what to do today, whether or not I am going to venture out.

I need to take a set of sheets back to the department store. This will be the first time I have attempted to return sheets, but can you believe it ... they shrunk in the wash!

I don't have the receipt. Never thought of keeping it because I've never had to return sheets I've used before.

Good Morning Friends....Happiest of New Year's Ever!!!

I was alseep last night for all the fun and festivities that I recorded on my TV. John fell asleep early too. So much for us party poopers.

The ear still hurts. I have to eat something before I take the antibiotics so I'll be in the kitchen soon. John just put the megadrops in my ear so hopefully both meds will kick in and do their job very soon.

We have no plans for this weekend....although it is the last one at home before heading out of town next Friday. YEAH! John has laundry to do and packing. I have last minute packing to do. John is outside right now cleaning up some snow that we got. Not a lot....just a few inches.

Now that we are finished with all the holidays....I know that the cruise is the next thing on the list. I'm anxious to get that part started. One more week and then we leave. I hope it goes quickly.

Watching NYE countdowns as I'm taking all the decorations off the tree. I forgot that I have to take down all the Christmas stuff this weekend. I won't be here next weekend and they have to come down before I leave. No time like the present. Getting it done slowly. I'm resting in between ornaments. I'm not in a rushing mood.

Hi Deb. Sorry your ear is still sore. I hope it soon improves. Pain like that is very wearing.

I took the Christmas Cards down today and will do the tree etc on Sunday. Everything always looks so tidy when they are all down doesn't it?

I'm rather bored sitting around now and watching tv! I think I need to get some jigsaws.

I did a little ironing earlier as the pile was going to reach the ceiling soon!!! Doing a little more each day - soon be all hunkydory.:)

Hi Marilyn, I'm glad you're doing a little at a time too. I'm just not up to speed with this ear thing. I can't even concentrate on taking care of the leg until this ear improves. I have to give it a couple of days on the new meds and then we should see some improvement. I hope!!!

I'm bored too. I have lots of recordings to watch, but everytime I try....I just fall asleep. So the only thing left to do is take down the Christmas decorations. John just came in from outside cleaning up the snow and said....now I can do laundry, cook or play with my camera. Guess which one he opted for. haha.

Well, I'm not thinking laundry or cooking!!! We have just got tea on, so we have that to look forward to. We had snow overnight which hasn't gone before another snowfall a while ago. We have had so many winters without snow I thought we might never have any again.

We have the final appearance of David Tenant as Doctor Who tonight and it looks a cracker of a programme. That is something to look forward to.:thumbsup2 Otherwise there hasn't been much on to keep me from boredom.

Thanks....whoever heard of cellulitis in the ear.....John said if it's a rare disease, I will get it. I only have vicodin for the pain. I have ear drops too, but they are to kill off the infection not the pain. I'm being very careful with the pain meds. I only take half and I watch the clock before taking another half. It should start feeling better soon so I can get off the pain meds completely.

I'm back from the department store. Quite frankly I'm surprised at how many places are open today. I seem to remember everything being closed on New Year's Day.

The streets and store were pretty empty, but then it's also very cold outside. It's 19F/7C.

I returned the set of sheets without any problem. I've never done that before, but then I've never had a fitted sheet shrink either.

I also did a little housekeeping and took in a slew of video games to Game Stop to trade them in.

What a boring day. But Oh so cozy inside.

Hi Marilyn, ::yes:: I will be starting a new job on Jan 18th. My last day here is Jan 15th. I have been with this current company for almost 25 years. So I am excited and scared at the same time. It was a long thought out decision to make the switch, but I know that once I get into my new position I will enjoy it. It is a step up in my automotive career. I'm currently an office manager for a Volkswagen dealership, and my new position is with a Chevrolet/Cadillac dealership as Controller.

Congratulations :banana::cool1::banana:

Update on Sukie.

No surgery today. Listening to his abdomen on there's been some developments that are causing them to wait to because surgery may not be needed. He's on antibiotic drips and that may have helped. The intestinal block may be infection related.

They now have him on a liquid diet. Of course there is drama about the liquid diet, because some of the staff speak questionable English. However he is eating some of what he's been given.

He's also a bit irritated with his roommate's family. They seem like nice people but are under the delusion that the hospital room is a clown car and are trying to see how many people they can cram into the room. They have very loud conversations, frequently involving the phone on speaker so everyone is shouting and the people on the phone are shouting.

I think his favorite part of today was when people crammed into the room for a prayer meeting. The only thing that might have made the event even more complete for him was if they started passing back and forth sausage rolls over his bed.

I would have preferred if he was in the hospital that our doctor is associated with because it's one of the best in the Chicago area, but unfortunately it was just too far away given the state he was in last night.

However he's very pleased with the staff and the quality of the care he's getting.

He's in very good spirits. I'm exhausted and not going back tonight. I didn't sleep last night and it's snowing now and I really don't want to be driving in the snow when I'm this tired, even though the hospital is not far away.

I guess we'll see how he is tomorrow. Right now I'm preparing to spend New Year's Eve in the hospital.

I brought Sukie back home and very happy about it. What a big scare that was, but we are so relieved that he did not have to go under the knife.

He's resting and is on some antibiotics and some other stuff for infections.

The good thing is that he came home on the 31st. We had hit our deductible for 2009 in the fall, so if there's any thing good about this, it happened on the "right" side of the year, before our deductible resets at midnight and we start all over again!

That is great news!!! :cool1:

I'm hoping the ear is better by Monday. If not, I'll be calling my doctor and asking if it's okay for me to fly. We may have to drive down to FL and back after all. I have to see if it gets better and if I can fly. I think it is getting better because I'm taking less pain killers so that's a good sign.

John is going to ask the Pharmacist today if I can take my steroids while on all my other meds. We'll see what he says. Fortunately it's a relaxing trip so I won't need a lot of energy.

Hi All!!

We are quickly making up for not having much snow before Christmas :scared1: We've been under a snowsquall warning for two days now and could be getting more gusty snowy conditions tomorrow. Holly, you want to come for a visit ;) I am so glad I have been off work yesterday, today and tomorrow! I have no plans to step outside my house until Monday! Hopefully it will have calmed down by then.

We took down the tree and decorations today. It went SO much faster this year having the three of us adults instead of just me :thumbsup2 I thought Serenity would be sad when she found the tree gone, but I found an old child's size rocker downstairs today that used to be Sara's and brought it upstairs and cleaned it all off, boy was it dusty! It was waiting for Serenity when she woke up from her nap. She loved rocking in her new chair and didn't even seem to notice the tree was gone :confused3

Deborah, I'm sorry you felt sick after your night out, but am glad you are feeling better.

Deb, I'm glad your ear is feeling some better. Hope it improves enough that you can fly.

Hi Shannon. Love the pics.

Does Ken have a graphic of a formal Tink? We're doing door signs. We need the tink that laughs when you want her to get off the ship but since we're in a suite, John wants one in formal attire. Do you have any like that? You can email directly to John at comanch@ptd.net Thanks for any help you can give us.

He's working on a formal tink and will email to John :thumbsup2

Hello Shannon, Ken, Deb

It is heavy SNOWING here...

I was watching the programme Casulty... oh what a sad ...

wish I never watch it as it make me upset...

Scottishwee35

Enjoy the pretty snow :) I have to go shovel ours in a little bit. It counts as exercise ::yes::

I see Ken has another career???

& add some snow and you guys are all set!!!

the snow's outside. The kids like Ken to pick them up from daycare with the tobaggon so they get a ride home, so hopefully the snow stays right until Friday.

Hi All!!

Kids are funny with what they react to.

We did lobster last night. The kids aren't bothered by the eyes or anything.
We had a fish tank when Shaelyn was little. The first time a fish died, we thought she'd be sad, but she just wanted to cook it and eat it :lmao:

Deborah, I'm sorry you felt sick after your night out, but am glad you are feeling better.

Deb, I'm glad your ear is feeling some better. Hope it improves enough that you can fly.

Shannon, LOVE the pics :goodvibes You always take such good ones :thumbsup2

Ian, Deb is right....buy the camera already!!!

Michelle, you're starting to sound like your old (meaning healthy :flower3:) self again :goodvibes

Thanks Kathe..

And if you don't mind... can you please keep Canada there... It's so windy that I'm afraid that it might blow right over the line and move in up here... ;)

Ken/Shannon, love the toboggan picture!

Well, tomorrow is the last day of my vacation (though Di is still here through Wed AM). Then it's three long weeks till the next one....:rolleyes1

Looks like folks are starting to feel better....slowly but surely. I've been sneezing and blowing my nose all day, but feel fine.

Went to mass and a funeral/celebration of life today. It had been a long time since I attended a Catholic mass. When I was a kid, I'd go with my friend's family and probably went to mass more than our own church. I was suprised I remembered some of the responses during the service. I think it was a hang-over from some of my past lives! :lmao:

John is puttering around doing laundry and packing a suitcase. We leave in just 5 more days. I'm so excited. I know it's going to be short, but it's a week total away and most of the trip onboard we'll spend in our suite. I can't wait to stay in a suite. John should have a very happy birthday this year.

Today I woke up and saw some positive results with the ear getting better. I can't say anything about swimming with the leg, but I think I'll be able to fly with the ear. This round of meds is having an affect on the ear. The redness is less, the swelling is less, the pain is less. These drugs are working. YEAH! Five more days of treatment and we should be ok to fly. I'm so happy about that. I really didn't want to have to change plans at the last minute. But now I shouldn't have to.

Great news about the ear. But I'm going to be different than everyone else and quote this part. This sounds like a good day to me. And I will probably be right there watching with you today. Except I'll have to throw in a little hockey at 2pm. Canada is playing the Swiss in the World Junior Hockey Championship today for the right to go to the gold medal game.

The World Juniors here in Canada are treated much like college bowl games are in the US. It is huge here and a Christmas tradition (the tournament starts on Boxing Day). And I actually prefer this tournament over the NHL.

But I still gotta get my football fix!!

Our receptionist at work went through 2 rounds of different kinds of antibiotics and is still sick. She's been sick for 6 weeks now. She's mad that her doctor won't give her a 3rd kind of antibiotic to try, but I'd think it's viral if the antibiotics didn't do anything for her. Awful stuff.

Holly, I've been thru two rounds of antibiotics for the leg and now I'm the first round of a different antibiotic for the ear and leg. I have seen some improvement, but not enough. I expected it to be almost gone by now. It's not. The ear is just a little better and the leg is the same.

I have so much to do to get ready to leave in just 3 days and all I can do is sleep because I'm in so much pain. This is not the way I imagined going on this trip.

Brrrrrr, 6+" of snow here and still snowing. Looks like all the country will be covered by the end of the day. Most schools are closed here and roads a mess. Councils are running out of grit and salt so things are not going to be good if it continues. The footpaths were treacherous before this new snow and it is going to freeze again.

I'm staying inside, though I am getting a little fed up now that I can walk more and could do with a brisk walk.

Weather here - awful more snowing last night...

and told that this Sat will be freezing... brrrrrrrr

Kids are going back to school tomorrow horray but I have to check on internet to see if school open or not because of bad weather...:confused3

My car engine is fine but very ice on top window, etc, I try to put engine on but I give it up and took the bus to work...

We got quite a bit of snow and gusty weather over the last few days too, although yesterday wasn't bad. Tonight we had freezing rain, I got off work and had to scrape my car windows for what seemed like forever :headache:

Seems the whole country is white now. We have a blocking high bringing arctic weather and it should be around at least for another 10 days.

The snow must be having a big impact. As I recall, the country is just not equiped to deal with snow. When I lived there in 1991 there was a big snow and the spread grit, which was pretty worthless.

This not being able to use the Internet at wark has been a real drag. However as we are monitored, I think it's best to avoid it. Besides, I'm really too busy at work anyway, but it sure was better when I could hop on in a spare moment. Now I try to use my iPhone during while I'm eating lunch.

I checked our flight and there's no delay at this time. We're set to fly out of here around 5pm out of our local Allentown airport and arriving in Orlando MCO around 7:30pm. We've been doing that for years... works every time!!! :thumbsup2

Have a wonderful time!!! (and see if you can cut the pill down to 1/4....)

Michelle and Shannon, I ended up taking a decongestant and a half a vicodin. I did fine. Thanks for your great suggestions, they really helped.

IT'S FREEZING HERE and supposed to be even colder tomorrow. FL is just not equipped for this frigid weather. The hotel room is not warm enough and we only brought light jackets.....not heavy duty jackets. I hope it's warmer on the ship.

I'm using the netbook and it takes a little getting used to. It's got a very very small keyboard and screen....very strange.

Monica, Lisa, Darrell I think we'll be sitting inside Fishlips tomorrow. NO outside in this weather. It's way way too cold.

Good Morning and Good Saturday All!

Sort of rough having a full week back at work. Things are also being ratcheted up a bit by our new company in NY. We are all suffering from culture shock. The only way to describe it is to think of oneself as a refugee who suddenly has to live in a new strange country.

The culture of the new company is very odd and often quite dysfunctional. It is exacerbated a bit because we are all here in Chicago and looking from the outside in. To them in headquarters they're behaving normally. We, looking inside see things differently.

It's going to be a very rough adjustment for all of us. There are things going on for me that are just so damn odd, but I don't want to go into them here. However, by comparison, I have it very easy, there are others in Chicago how are experiencing things much worse.

-------

Here we are on a very cold and frosty day in Chicago. I went to bed after 1:30 am and did not get up until 7:30 am! I feel like the entire day is gone.

Sukie and I have our normal errands to run today, Costco and the supermarket. We did some shopping yesterday evening and I got a new ceiling light for my office that I have to install today.

Some good news here is Chicago is that Sukie had some good news from the newspaper for which he writes a column. They have asked him to become an associate editor for their entertainment/what's on section. It means covering club events, and will also mean that I need to start looking at buying that new camera because he will have to be out taking some photographs.

-------

For me, I am starting on my new year's resolution today. My goal is to launch a blog in March. I don't want it to be on someone else's blogging site, such as Blogger. I want it to be on my own domain (site). So my goal is to spend 2 hours a weekend learning Wordpress and get ready for a launch.

I have a domain name that has been unused for many years, Oz Has Spoken, which will finally be getting used, but I've got a lot to learn, since the software will be on my own domain.

The plus side is that I don't have to worry about anyone else's rules and will be in complete control.

So, busy day ahead!

It's great to see a teacher thinking out of the box for his students :thumbsup2 win-win in my minds eye. The icing on the cake is that he is your's Marilyn  moms never get over having the best job in the world, do they ;)

Ian as Willie says "sucks to be me right now" Work is just the means to an end. Keep it in perspective and don't let it get in your head. It's a shame that the old exec team didn't seek a better fit for you guys in corporate feel, but I'm sure it was a numbers decission, as M&As usually are.

Work for me is intense, in that when I'm there I'm engrossed from the minute I walk in ~9am until I head home ranging from the earliest of 6pm latest of 10pm. More work this weekend, going in within the hour. I never get to my forecasting and planning role during the week, so that's the late hours and weekend work. If it doesn't get done I could find myself in a bad spot as the weeks/months roll on. Lots of growth for us, we've gone from brand new in Nov up to 11 people today adding more as I tell everyone we can afford them. I'm missing my life as a mom - I see the kids for an hour or less and have been replaced (gratefully) by Paul. He is scheduling playdates and making sure they get homework done and to scouts and rehersal on time. Paul also is doing a bang up job of making my life easier. When I work late he brings me a plate of dinner and lugs his laptop into our conference room and works on his contract work stuff. I think our roles have reversed for sure and figure it will be this way for a few years to come. I'm feeling okay about it for now. But working full time is a hard gig in Silicon Valley that's for sure :sad2:

We've been back a week from the Alps and today is the first day I have been able to look at the laptop screen for more than 10 minutes at a time as I caught a horrid cough/cold which made my eyes so sore and has led to excessive nasty sinus pain. I really haven't felt so bad in a l-o-n-g time...

But enough of all that - I just wanted to drop by and say "hi, I'm thinking of you all..."
Nighty night... xxx :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

Not many people outside, so I have to assume that the sail away party is going on inside. We had snow today while at Sandi and Joe's. Hard to believe this is FL.

Then John played with his birthday toys....Lisa and Darrell brought John a Mickey bottle stopper and a Mickey bottle opener....both are adorable and really came into good use already. Here's a few pics that John posed Webster and miniWebs with his new gifts.

Now that's a sentence one doesn't expect to hear around here.

You never know what kind of disease you're going to catch from those damn Von Trapp brats!

(Karen! Don't touch that Von Trapp! You don't know where it's been!)

Just letting everyone know that we are now in the middle of a warm spell. It's been getting up to 41F here today. We even decided to go and wash the van today. Hard to believe that we have had such a huge temp swing here the last few days. From -30C to +5C...

Crazy. The only danger now is that all the melt will turn to ice once the temps drop again. And you know they will.

Any how, just thought I'd make a quick post before heading off to bed. Busy day tomorrow. Manic soccer Monday and all that...

I just wrote a LONG detailed message and lost the whole thing. I'm so sorry. No pics until Thurs when I get off the boat because my netbook secuity settings hates the internet satellite on the boat. It keeps kicking me off. That's how I just lost everything.

Too tired to try and repeat it all tonight. Besides, it will just kick me off again. You'll all have to wait until Thurs. Sorry.

Von Trapps are very deadly, primarily because they look so cute, which is their camouflage, hiding the fact that they are riddled with deadly disease.

You can read all about it in the Pulitzer Prize essay I wrote, "Nature's Deadly Trapp."
