Of course! I just wanted to hear from folks over 50 how they spend their time down at WDW to get some pointers that we may have missed.

I'm 55; solo. Had my first solo trip last December (near the leave date, son had to cancel so decided to go by myself).
I had fun (first night was a bit lonely, I'll admit) while I was there. I took my time, never rushed to get anywhere. One thing I'd recommend is Park Hoppers. Since I was solo and had it, I'd spend time at one park and, if it got a bit too crowded for me, I'd head out to a different one.
A pleasant surprise for me was the single rider line at some rides (like TT at Epcot). Since in previous trips I was with someone, I never really noticed them.
I would've gone this year but the economic downturn made me rethink my budget so I've had to pass on the trip this December. :(
But I am thinking late April/early May in 2010!

I love going solo. Back in May I spent 12 days there which is the longest I've been solo and at first I thought I would get bored, but I didn't. It was a very relaxing and the best vacation I ever had. I took my time going through the parks and as pdcchris said, get a park hopper that way you have the option to hop over to another park. I did meet up with others from the DisBoards during my 12 days and I had fun meeting them all. I also did the Behind the Scenes at Epcot and the Backstage Safari tour in AK. They were both great. My next solo trip is Oct 21-27 but I already have plans to meet up with others but not every day. I like my alone time, so I can absorb the atmosphere.

I'm also planning a solo trip in Apr/May 2010. Maybe we can all get together then and call the little meet "Young at Heart Going Wild" :goodvibes

I'll be 57, DW 58 when we go in January. Daughters w/ significant others will be with us through Wednesday, then we have the rest of the week to ourselves (hooray!). We've learned to do the parks on our own as the kids don't appreciate the planning or schedules. We plan to do rope drop several days while they, bless their sleepy little hearts, meet us somewhere for dinner.
Now, what else will we do? Well, we have rented a 6 bedroom home with a private pool so we'll come home some days for a nap, dip or both.
If some of our friends can get away, we'll invite them down for the second half of the week.
There's usually a half day at the outlets, a couple of nice dinners out and a few hours at DTD.
We're open to new things... got some ideas?

hi i am 55 and planned my first solo trip this month. of course i planned the trip for months.
i had to cancel my MNSSHP vacation and boy am i glad i did. very hot(92) and torrential rains. so the trip was just not meant for me. i am again planning a solo trip in Feb or early March. i will looove being solo. i use a scooter (WDW) only due to h:cheer2::yay::woohoo:uge amount of walking. i realize scooters may aggravate some folks who may want to go with me sooo i am going by myself.

DH and I are 57 and go to WDW at least twice per year! We do anything and everything a 25 year old would do. Peter Pan syndrome. Last trip we did Kim Possible at Epcot....and while we did that (in September) we found that there were more adults playing than kids!!! Good lord I love Disney... :goodvibes

Just a p.s....and afterthought. I too thought this board was for adults -- not just solos...but I've discovered otherwise. Maybe we need an adult maried/couples w/o kids or grown kids type site ourselves?

I do go solo quite a bit, as DH does not have the time off that I do.

I believe this board is for adults AND solos. I know many solos who are married/partnered, etc.

Hey ! Who are you calling us "seniors"??? LOL ! LOL! :lmao:

Anyway, I am 56, and although I am married, I do WDW solo for one whole week !!! DH would rather stay home with our two fur babies (cats).
This December 8th will be my 11th annual solo trip. I always do all the shows and attractions in each of the parks. I make ressies for one person in some of the sit down restaurants, and also eat counter service. I eat at the resort breakfast buffets.

The only things that I am NOT comfortable with as a solo are the water parks, and any downtown night life. As far as any non-park night life, I would much rather be resting in my room, getting some sleep for the next busy day.

I dearly love Disney World, and I hope I get to do this at least once per year for the rest of my life ! :goodvibes :dance3:

Hubby (57) and I (57) both LOVE WDW. We haven't been since 2007, but will be at BCV's (1 bedroom unit) 12-12 - 12-19, 2009. We haven't even gotten there, and we're already planning our next trip in May, 2011!!

Favorite rides: Soarin' and Splash Mountain
Favorite dining: Teppan Edo
Favorite resort: Was POFQ, but it may change to BCV's!
Favorite park: Epcot

How can one not enjoy WDW?!?!?!

We are a 50's couple...we go every year ..this year twice but we generally only stay a few days...we also cruise...we would love to take our grandchildren...but first we will have to get our children married off and so far no luck, hence no grandchildren.
We go to Epcot and DHS and AK, every trip we usually only go to one park.
We never rent a car and consider the bus rides and waiting for the buses part of the adventure. Sometimes you meet nice folks and sometimes you meet overtired children.
We make ADR's and do the DDP and if possible if we have a split ressie we do the DxDDP for one or two days and this gives us enough extra table services to have a 2 TS meal or two and maybe a nice breakfast as well.
We go to the gym at SSR. ( After all those meals we need to)
This year we are going to do the Segway tour at Ft. Wilderness and a Wishes Cruise. We are also going to ICE at Gaylord Palms. We always visit Yeeha Bob at POR. In the past we have done Illuminations Cruise with friends we met on the boards. Arranged the cruise thru the boards.
We have ridden bikes from SSR to OKW and back. We have gone to Cirque. We like DTD and always spend at least 1/2 day there.
We feel like there is still a ton we have not done and that's OK we don't want to run out of new things to do. So we only do a few things , one park a few good meals...and spend lots of time by the pool. OK we spend a fair amount of time on the bus too! Occasionally we take a taxi to or from dinner. Once we got a private bus ride from a bus driver that was technically off duty but felt sorry for us because we had been waiting forever. We didn't have the heart to tell him we really were in no rush. He would not accept a tip. These are the little ( and not so little) things that make it a fun experience for us.
If you have never cruised there is a bit of a learning curve and if you can hook up with an experienced couple it really helps. We were blessed to meet some now good friends and they were experienced cruisers. They planned everything, I know it made all the difference for us.

dh & i are 53.
we go at least 1x a year, & enjoy:
mini-golf (a must do!)
having an ice cream & hanging out on the boardwalk (we stay at the bwv's)
going to the outlets
eating off-site, as well as on
tours (love segways!)
chatting with other ppl, especially on the buses
hanging out at the quiet pool (less kidlets)
walking around epcot
resort hopping

we don't spend a lot of time on rides (been there, done that ;) ), but take each day as it comes.
veeeeeeeeery relaxing :cloud9:

i'm 50 and my DH is 65. We have been to Disney about four times in the last year and are going again the first of December. I find the adult trips much more relaxing than with kids.

We LOVE hanging out in the hammocks at either the GF, Poly or Contempo. We enjoy the leisurely dinners at a sit down. We enjoy NOT feeling like we have to commando tour the parks. Our last trip (with record heat for October) we spent a lot of time just reading in our room, at the pool, and doing some nightlife. It was a different kind of Disneytrip but we loved it.

I'm over 55 years young and have been to WDW many times over the years with family and thought I couldn't love Disney more. Recently I have been to the world twice - solo - and found it was even MORE fun! Doing what I wanted, when I wanted, changing plans without a big discussion, going to three parks in a day, or no parks in a day -priceless!! I love my family and will still treasure my visits with them, but I will still wrangle a few days a year to go by myself, just for ME! :woohoo:

It seems like lots of posters have misread this. It looks to me like you want to hear from over 55 couples NOT solos.

Anyway DH and I are 60. In Sept. we took our 8th trip to WDW in 12 years. We go by ourselves, except in 2004 when DS (then 26) and DD (then 22) came along. We love going by ourselves. We know just what we want to do and see, and do it at the pace we want to. We love eating at the various restaurants and try to find a new 1 each trip. Last trip we splurged on Narcoossee's. It was great. We do almost all of the rides.

The more people in a group, the harder it is to keep everyone happy. DH and I are very happy to go as a couple.

I love all these responses! Let's keep it going. I also do not consider myself a "senior" because my heart is young. Why don't we just share some of the cool things we do at Disney? Our little habits or rituals if you will. It could be that wonderful hot tub at the pool at 11 pm with a plastic cup with wine ;)---strolling Epcot at night when the park is closing...sitting at BCV beaches watching Illuminations ... again .... best spots to stop and rest in the parks...it's wide open folks!

I qualify as both a solo visitor, and part of a couple. DH (58) and I (57) go to WDW every year, usually spring. In addition, I take one, sometimes 2 solo trips. I'm the bigger Disney nut in the family, so I go there every chance I get! For DH, once a year is plenty and even then his occasional trips tothe parks are supplemented with lots of golf.

In our 60's and have been going by ourselves since 1995, since 2002 as DVC members. Just came back from trip # 13 as DVC members. Went alone and had a great time. Just booked a trip for May of 2010. Some of our grown kids and their families have gone at the same time, but do not stay with us. On our trips alone, we do whatever we feel like doing. He spends a lot of time at ESPN. I go to Downtown Disney to shop.

Since the Villas is next to the back entrance to Epcot and that is our favorite park, we go back and forth a lot. My husband likes to walk around the Boardwalk and along the path to Hollywood Studios and back. If it's hot, I go in the pool. I walk around and take pictures. We like dinner at Shula's at the Dolphin and Il Mulino at the Swan. LOVE the Boardwalk at night. Often go for a nightcap at the lounge in the Boardwalk hotel. Some days we hotel hop and visit the ones along the monorail.

Our favorite times to go are May and Oct./Nov. This past trip, I auditioned for American Idol at Hollywood Studios. Also went to see the Princess Diana Exhibit at the West Side.

LOVE DISNEY!!

Aren't there any couples out there over 55 going to Disney, or is everyone on this thread single/solo?????

maybe the mods.. at first... thought there were so few "adults only" enjoying WDW, that we were all lumped into one big category (adults, solos, etc).
and it had become a singles, solo thread .

there needs to be a category for adults. not singles or solos. (that would be a separate category) I wouldn't "label" it "seniors". (even though hubby and I are 53 and 55) many young adult enjoy WDW without children, often on honeymoons)
but, a thread that doesn't talk about kids all the time (and believe me,I LOVE my grandkids)
a thread in which they understand that WDW is not JUST for kids, (yes,it's for kids; it's just not JUST for kids!)
yes, a separtate singles, OR solo thread is great. not the some thing.

We'll next be there for Marathon weekend. Only my DSis will be participating, but we'll be there to cheer her on! We have a Pirate Wishes cruise to celebrate 4 of our birthdays that happen in the holiday season!

DH & I (both 57) go at least once a year, normally in May for Flower & Garden. We Love the Flower Power concerts.
We took our daughter with us until 2000, when she went off to college. She whined at us last year, so did a bounce back trip in 2008 and took her with us.

We do one of the tours every trip. We've done the AK Backstage & the Segways twice. When we can afford to stay Club level, we do the special Animal Safari that is offered to CL guests.

We also eat very well when we are at WDW. We are working our way thru all the great TS restaurants. Every trip we add one or two new ones.

Our favorite resort is Boardwalk. Aren't as many children and excellent access to epcot & DHS.

We are going on the 2nd trip to WDW without family in 17 days to celebrate our 30th anniversary. . We like to walk around and do all the rides. Yes the intense ones are the best R&R Coaster, ToT, Space Mountain. etc. Love going thru the shops, which could get expensive as I like to buy for our GD princess Melody (4), bless her litte heart. We have the dining plan as we love TS dining. We actually got a table for Le Celliar in Epcot. I am looking forward to our first trip to the boardwalk too. I purposely left a day open just for that.

Well, this thread is so freaking me out. Okay, so I'm going to be 55 in May (heading to WDW in March). To quote the sticker on my fridge: I may be getting older but I refuse to grow up.

I'm going to hold off on that "senior" title for another 10 or 15 years though(maybe 20...25), I think.

We're 58 and 59 years young, retired but not Seniors yet. We may never be Seniors, just like Peter Pan we'll never grow up! We come down to FL about 5-6 times a year for about a month and go to the 4 parks about 4 days a week. The rest of the time we go to those other parks ;), to Downtown Disney, Quest, the water parks and outlet mall shopping.

Just like us WDW never ever gets OLD, no matter how many times you visit. :cool1:

* Jose Feliciano March 5-7
* Paul Revere and the Raiders March 12-14
* David Cassidy March 19-21
* Starship Starring Mickey Thomas March 26-28
* Tony Orlando April 2-4
* Herman's Hermits Starring Peter Noone April 9-11

DW is 51, I am 55, and we go 2 times/yr for F&G and F&W. Every other yr in mid Dec for DW's birthday, so we can also enjoy the decorations, candlelight processional, and Osborne lights. Spend 90% of our time at Epcot, so we purchased DVC at BWV. Last trip with kids was 1-07, but may let them join us for F&W 2011:)

My husband and I are both in our 60's but are very young at heart. We are big Disney fans and spend several months in FL. We bought a manufactured home about 1 hour from Disney and have been there too many times to count. We did the Disney Panama Canal cruise and now we are going on the Disney Eastbound Transatlantic Cruise and the continuing Mediterrean cruise. The cruise - like WDW is NOT ONLY for kids. We have cruised on other lines and once you do Disney nothing can come up to their standards.
I think there is a need for a thread for couples whose children are grown and love Disney.

guess it's boston for us. let's see.. "more than a feeling"....not exactly what I would call a "FLOWER POWER" band, but any free concert is great.

lately we like to plan non-park time. In august, we stayed 3 nights at Royal Pacific (universal) and got a free upgrade to a king suite!!. then we transferred over to Disney, and had 3 nights at CBR...get this.. without park tickets!!! just top relax and enjoy the resort! we rented bikes, wwent to downtown disney, and alternated time between the quiet pool and the main pool. then we went to pop century and free dining!!!
in late April, early May we do a split stay Riverside/FQ, with 3 no planned days. one resort day at each resort, and one "transfer day". ah! relaxation! (of course, both resorts have boat access to DTD)

We enjoy listening to Off Kilter and Mo'Rockin every visit, but the F&G/F&W concerts make the evenings even more special. When they eliminated the weekday concerts last year for F&G, we decided to replace with dinners at restaurants we had never tried before. Last year it was Spoodles, Cali Grill, and Yachtsman. This year we have ADR's for Citricos and Flying Fish.

Can't wait to see the concert lineup for F&W. We normally go for 5 nights, but this year we'll be there 10-29 to 11-7. Food booths, concerts, "the ditch"(tequila bar in Mexico pavillion), and Illuminations......"Adult Disney"!!
