Hate spending money on luggage when you know it's gonna be ruined by the baggage handlers.
That's the reason I needed to buy a new suitcase. Our "big" suitcase was ruined after our May 2008 cruise. It was beyond repair. There really aren't that many trip where we take the "big" suitcase though. Now that the weight limit is 50 pounds, we go for the smaller suitcases anyway.
I'm going to have to climb down into the bag room and take some video of the baggage handling system diverting bags. This arm come out a "whacks" your suitcase to divert it to another path. The suitcase gets weighed just before getting to the arm and the amount of force is adjusted according to the weight of the bag. Still, you will never pack anything breakable again! :scared1:
Angie - We'll just have to decorate our suitcases differently.

Every time I'm on a plane, I think of you guys and all the stress and stuff you have to go through every time you fly :sad2::scared1::hug:
On my flight back from Wisconsin in July I almost peed my pants when they handed me peanuts as a snack!!!!!!! Even though I was a little snackish I told her no thanks!!
For WDW too!! :goodvibes
HI!!! :wave2: My name is Cass and I am going to Walt Disney World tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!! :cool1::woohoo::yay::dance3:
Hard to believe that tomorrow night we will be at the Animal Kingdom Villas Pool!!!:cloud9::lovestruc
Have a safe trip. We'll be at AKV after the cruise for 2 nights.
Just an overnight in the great city of Portland. We fly out on JetBlue the next day. I'm curious to see what our Blue aircraft is named. I know, I am crazy like that!
When we drove to Georgia we avoided South of the Border. The last time I stopped there was in 2001 and all I could smell was garbage everywhere I went! In its heyday, I am sure it was quite the place though.
Watch your speed in North Carolina. It changes from 70 to 65 and the cops like hanging out in the 65 mph zones. I had a few seconds of sheer terror having a cop trail me while going 75 or so. He pulled over the guy in front of me!
Here's hoping that Dan & I aren't still in the great city of Portland waiting to take off!!! Sure sounds funny from this end to hear you talking about coming to Portland to go to Florida!!
Gonna post it? ;)
I am also still worrying about how to get all the luggage to the airport. We'll have 4 people plus cases in a (smallish) station wagon. I think before I start packing I'm giong to put all the empty suitcases in the car and see if we're even close to fitting!
We do that when we go to the beach in July. We have to take much more stuff like linens, beach chairs, etc., so it's pretty tight, like putting a puzzle together.
Hate spending money on luggage when you know it's gonna be ruined by the baggage handlers.
That's why we're still using the one with the busted whell. As long as it still rolls we'll use it!

OK, the excitement is really starting to kick in now. :cloud9: I picked up a new suitcase set from Costco (1 suitcase to check and 1 carry on). I also just made an impulse camera purchase. For me, it's all about the pictures. Memory will fade over time, but pictures keep them alive. Sony has a new camera out that has exceptional low light performance and can produce panoramic pictures "inside" the camera. You sweep the camera in a smooth arc up to 256 degress and, voila everything fits in the picture! :thumbsup2
Matthew
I meant to comment about your "memories" comment. I TOTALLY agree with you about that! Most of the souvenirs that we have gotten on our past Disney trips are scattered around the house (or at the bottom of a toy box) but our picutres are the most AWESOME things we still have.
That's why we decided ahead of time to spend the $$ and get the Photo CD from Shutters. That way I KNOW everytime I see a photographer, I will grab them and make them take our picture!! Then, I can bring the CD home and get this printed in the sizes that I want to (at COSTCO!!)

It actually is something like that. :lmao: Only the bags aren't suspended from above.

They come from the ticket counter through a maze of conveyor belts, changing levels along the way. All of the bag basements are underground (hence the name). The bags end up in one of several "bag rooms". Once there, there are routed to specific carousels depending on the airline and flight. TSA checks them, then they are loaded onto bag carts and driven out to your plane.

I've been thinking about the photo CD also....since we're linked with 3 other rooms we should be able to get pictures from all 4 rooms with 1 photo CD, correct?
I didn't spend too much at Shutters last time, but we didn't get a lot of character pics either. We got Mickey and Minnie at port, Chip & Dale on CC, Pluto on CC, and I think Minnie on CC. We also got a formal night picture (DH and I)....

Is the photo CD from Shutters a flat price no matter how many pictures? I don't recall that from our last cruise a year and a half ago. Is it new?
I have our digital photos pretty well organized. Whenever I start looking through pictures, Megan and Sarah are just captivated. They especially like the pictures of themselves when they were little.
This is still one of my favorites.

I went to the DCL website and looked under photography services. All it said was to check while onboard for package prices. I couldn't find anything about the CD. Do you decide to get that in advance, once onboard, or can you choose it at the end when you see how many pictures you have?
I heard that they went to the photopass concept. Do they still print them out for display like before?

Things are looking up that we will definitely make it for the cruise. I had mentioned previously that there was some doubt. My Father was recently diagnosed with a serious condition and the outlook is not good. I flew to see him right away. The short term good news is that he is doing a bit better and should be coming home today or tomorrow. He just sent me a photo from his iPhone showing his hospital room and saying that he is feeling pretty good today. :)

It's a wet day here in Quantico. another day that real life is getting in the way of cruise prep. I am doing some house cleaning this morning, then I have to take Emily to find shoes for Saturday night's Homecoming Dance. Her dress came in yesterday and fits her to a "t". We also have to go and buy lots of the food/candy for the concession stand for the game Friday night. The junior class is in charge to raise money for prom. Emily is class Treasurer, so many of the kids are bringing in money from their parents, so we take that money and go to Cosco and buy what they need. Whatever they profit in the concession stand goes to prom, so not a bad deal.:goodvibes

Chuck's saving grace was when he was hired in August of 08, he told them that he needed this time off for vacation. It was a caveat for him taking the job.

Doesn't it seem like everyone is more in NEED of a cruise than the last one (KK1)? Even if you haven't been on KK1, were you this "ready" on a previous cruise? We are definitely more stressed in our daily lives and more "in need" of a getaway.

We have a weekend full of house work and yard work since we will be gone for the next two week ends. The last few days have been rainy so the grass is grwing like crazy!!
Us too. We are cleaning the house and doing yard work on Saturday until late afternoon when we are going to Stacy's Halloween Birthday party. That'll be for the rest of the evening though. Then on Sunday Chuck has to work all day and I'll be spending some time with our dog sitter going over Cabo's needs. Some more running around to do but then it's done. :)

Good morning, Bobers....
Glad homecoming is this Sat & not next, so you can be there.

Teresa is going to the salon tonight to have them look at her hair. Since I got fired, she wanted to try to color her hair at home, since the old color was fading, and her roots were showing. BAD IDEA! She normally is a medium brown, and she used a medium mahogany to try to go a little darker. It came out JET BLACK! :scared1: She freaked out, spent about 2 hours in the shower, washing it with shampoo & dish detergent trying to strip it. Didn't work, so she's gonna have to go to the salon & pay them anyways. And no, I didn't dare take pictures; we were all scared for our lives (literally). :rotfl2:

Hello, I am leaving for my cruise on Saturday and a wonderfully generous stranger is leaving some things for us on the ship. All she asked is we do the same for someone else. So if anyone is interested in a surprise send me your family name and cabin number. I plan to leave behind our clear over the door shoe organizer, halloween window clings that I think will stick on the metal doors as well, any leftover glow necklaces and anything else that does not fit in our suitcases on the way back.
PM me if you want it. My son is 3 and on his first cruise so would love to pass it on to a family in a similar situation.
*****I have a family to leave things for. Enjoy your cruise!

wow I found this late. I (24yrs) will be cruising with my mum and her partner Geoff. This is my 4th cruise and I will be celebrating graduating from Norland College in Bath (England) and am now a fully qualified Norland Nanny!:cool1:
We got a letter from DCL saying that they would be Halloween celebrations on the cruise - so on the night they do it look out for a girl wearing a tutu and pointe shoes.

Oh I love it!:yay: - I want one:yay: - I agree though - we'll need a sad faced Mickey:sad1:
Then anyone who see's it will think we had a bad time on the cruise. :goodvibes
I trust he was only kidding cuz that's not a possibility!
N
No, she wasn't kidding at all Nancy. :sad2:
Love it!!! But I agree with Joanne, Mickey needs to be sad! :sad2:
No sad Mickey's on this cruise. Or....sad Angie's, or sad Karen's, or sad Joanne's.....or......
Do you at least have internet access during the down time?? If so, you can Dis and chat with us!! :lovestruc
Playing on the internet during normal work hours would certainly secure me a spot in the unemployment line Angie. :scared1: When everything went bad around here last June, my personal emails were even being routed to the boss first before I could see them. I don't even use my email for non-business things anymore. In much better times I would be emailing BOBers all day long. :yay:
Hello, I am leaving for my cruise on Saturday and a wonderfully generous stranger is leaving some things for us on the ship. All she asked is we do the same for someone else. So if anyone is interested in a surprise send me your family name and cabin number. I plan to leave behind our clear over the door shoe organizer, halloween window clings that I think will stick on the metal doors as well, any leftover glow necklaces and anything else that does not fit in our suitcases on the way back.
PM me if you want it. My son is 3 and on his first cruise so would love to pass it on to a family in a similar situation.
What a nice thing to do. Hopefully someone with some little kids will take you up on your kind offer. :littleangel:

We have snow falling in various parts of our state! It is going to be a very cold and damp weekend.
As for closing the thread, a lot of us that aren't leaving until the last minute can be pretty chatty. I don't think it is unreasonable.

I may pull out a couple of costumes for Becca to wear when she's on the boat... she LOVES to dress up and she will still do it (Abby's too "cool" to do it now...)
[COLOR="Red"]WOO HOO!!!![/COLOR:banana:
I'm getting my hair done on Saturday. Still debating if I want to get it cut, because it's a good length. Getting it hilighted though - I love the volume/texture it gives my hair (I have Thin/Baby Fine hair!)
Love the idea about the Mickey Heads - I'm totally going to get that done too!!!!!! Abby and Becca coming to get their toes done too (going to do that on Wednesday as well!)
:yay: We'll all have Mickey toes!! :yay: Rhee is as stoked about the pedi at the salon as she is about the cruise..:rotfl:

Doesn't it seem like everyone is more in NEED of a cruise than the last one (KK1)? Even if you haven't been on KK1, were you this "ready" on a previous cruise? We are definitely more stressed in our daily lives and more "in need" of a getaway.

I hope Becca likes it. I myself have extremely ticklish feet and I always jump! I've almost kicked her in the face a couple times!! :lmao::rotfl: (I think that would probably end our relationship..)
