Thanks Jack and everyone else for the kind words!

I am now officially registered and am booked at the All Star Sports. It's going to be insane with arriving on Saturday morning/early afternoon, running on Sunday, leaving Monday afternoon, but it's worth it.

As far as a workout 5 miles in 40 minutes. Easy and short.

Just in from a 5K, was nice to come back from a vacation and not have to get used again to Altitude, so travel at 10,000 feet plus is a god thing.

Jennifer is that RFTT???

Hi guys, sorry I have been absent a lot. With the house full of baby, training and working a bunch of 12 hr shifts I feel very out of touch with the world.

Not happy about everyone going to Disney this month without me. Pout Pout.

Scott and Lynn glad you enjoyed your trip.

Margie I have no idea where summer went, but maybe I won't have to mow many more weeks.

Connie, hope everything is ok.

Denise, baby kinda consumes the whole house don't it?

Everyone have a restful evening.

Good morning Team!

It has been one of those weeks that you kinda wish you could have skipped. First, we had to go after MORE tractor parts on Monday. When we got home we found the Natural Gas Guy looking for leaks around our house. After about an hour of investigation, we discovered all of our gas lines had to be redone. We started digging and working on it. The following day, we started looking for the pipe to replace it. We ended up making two trips of 80 miles to get the right pipe! On Wednesday, while some friends were helping with the gas lines, I had the dishwasher rapairman come in and look at my dishwasher. The new part would be $110. Thursday, I got the flu and went to bed. Friday, I got out of bed and worked on laundry for the entire week and altered my DD wedding dress. I am still not feeling 100% so I don't have any miles this week. The good news is the dress fits and I am getting better!

Margie - How did the Brooksie Way go?

Jennifer - Great job on the miles and races!

Lynn and Scott - Glad you made it home. Hope your knee is great, Lynn.

Everyone, let's get those times and miles in!

Where is everyone, anyway???:grouphug:

Good Morning Team!

Connie - WOW! what a week! I promise I will add up miles and get them to you sometime today!

Knee did not fare well hiking up and down ruins in Peru! I went to the PT and asked for miracles, I was given a new set of exercises that are torture - but if it gets the knee so that I can walk, then I will endure the torture! I have a feeling that I may be walking RFTT on pain killers! It is only 10K - how hard can that be??????

I so not know where the summer went - we may have mowed the lawn for the last time also - will be turning off the sprinkler system shortly - all my outdoor potted plants frosted in our absence - no more tomatoes - but the rasberries are still going fine.

Have a great day all!

Yes I posted to the September thread.

Here's what I wrote:

Hi Everyone. Many things going on here but the family including Josie went out for 3 miles today. It was just a walk - nothing to write home about but it was a beautiful day here in NH. Even Nick joined us. Josie is now awake a bit more than last week and is looking at my big fat face. She likes my quilts and is not too sure about Mark and all that facial hair.

I will go to my profile and update my miles, hours and PM them to Connie.

Thanks for sticking with me.

Scott the facebook photos are awesome.

As of today, I am glad it's October. I leave for Houston next week (weds) Mark was suppose to come with me but his friend passed away so we canceled portion of the trip and booked Disney for us in March. With the economy the way it is, our winter get away will be inexpensive, ap, DVC and airline credits. Thank goodness we bought DVC when we did.

Dave, yes the princess does bring with her some stuff but aren't they precious. I could kiss her face all day. Yesterday she had the hiccups and gets them often. My grandmother always thought a sip of sugarwater would help. So Miranda and I gave it a try, on sip and she looked at me like I was an alien but it also made her hiccups go away.

Well Monday again but it is a beautiful day here in New England.

Sun shining - all seems right with the world, well at least my corner of it for now.

PS - Connie - you can only go up from here, Pixie dust to you!

Good Morning Team!

Kim - the trip was fantastic! We had a great group (it is hard to get a tour group of 20+ people together and have not one abnoxious person!), we ate great food (including guinea pig and alpaca), and learned a lot about the Incas and Peru natives.

At the moment, the knee feels good, but I am sure that will change when I start the days exercises and walking. Yesterday was cold and raining all day, so the dogs and I did not get a walk in. PT later today also.

Have a great day all!

Jack are you going to Denver for the IACP???

Unfortunately, this being my first year as the COP, I didn't have the nerve to put in for it. My roomate Ray Fleer is the undersheriff at Jefferson County CO and had asked as well, I'd have loved to go just to hang out with everyone. I'd like Chipolte and a tour of coors as well. Next year the NA National is in Boston!!! I did the IACP two years ago in Boston so this will be easier only an hour drive. I miss getting all the free stuff :goodvibes

Brooksie Way Half Marathon Sunday, October 4, 2009:
It poured on Saturday but the rain held off on Sunday until the race finished and then it rain the rest of the day!

I met a young lady, Janice (only 33yrs) who recently moved to Kalamazoo who is doing the Goofy! I invited her to join the WISH group. Our pace is much the same. I walked with her most of the way. We are on the same training program and she is willing to do the long training walks together! I am so excited. I so dreaded doing those long walks alone.

Oh My Gosh - hills, hills, and more hills- Yes, Connie these were Real hills! I do not know why but the hill just before mile 7 was a real cardiac workout. I am thinking Detroit October 18th (13 more days) will be a piece of cake after the Crim & Brooksie Way!

I was way happy with my Chip Time and pace ::yes::
The section on the dirt road was terrible...wet, slippery, with lots of pot holes, but the other two sections on the trails were pretty good.

Marathon Recovery: the First 24 hours
Coach Jenny, I am running a marathon this weekend and then flying Sunday night to an early morning business meeting Monday. Do you have any magic post-marathon recovery tips that might help me avoid walking like John Wayne into that meeting? - Meg

Good luck in your marathon this weekend Meg! Yes, there are plenty of recovery strategies you can implement post marathon that will help you walk softly Monday morning.

~Timing is everything, and recovery begins the minute you cross the finish line. Get your photo and your medal and keep walking. You've just asked your body to run for hours and stopping abruptly shocks the system and encourages muscle lock-up and blood pooling in your legs. Try to walk at least 10 minutes post race to allow your body to gradually return to its normal resting state. Get up and walk around 10-15 minutes every few hours for the rest of the day.

~Within 30 minutes of finishing, refuel with carbohydrates with lean protein and salt. It doesn't have to be a full meal, but research indicates that recovery rates are faster if you consume carbohydrates and protein at a 3:1 or 4:1 ratio. If you can't eat post race, pack a recovery drink in your gear check bag. It can be easier to digest and aids in re-hydration.

~Put yourself on ice soon after the race. Many elite athletes like Paula Radcliffe take advantage of the miracles of ice post race and take a cold bath because it immediately begins to reduce inflammation in your legs. Ice bath recipe: Fill a tub with lukewarm water -- enough to cover your feet, legs, hips, and waist. Wear a shirt or towel to keep your upper body warm. Add ice cubes until the water is cold. Sit in the cold tub for five to eight minutes. The colder the water, the shorter the time you should sit in the tub.

~Sip fluids throughout the day to replenish losses. Use the "pee" test to monitor adequate hydration levels. If your urine is pale yellow like lemonade, you are adequately hydrated. Continue to replenish fuel and electrolyte levels (sodium, potassium). A bowl of soup is a great recovery meal. Hydrate adequately on the flight as well.

~Take a normal dose of anti-inflammatory one to two hours post race with food.

~Consider scheduling a massage if you have the time but wait at least two hours post race. Getting a massage at the finish may sound like a great idea, but it can cause more soreness, which is not going to help your goal to walk normally Monday morning. Massage can have a dramatic effect on post-race recovery times. You can also perform your own self massage with some of the products on the market like The Stick and foam rollers. They are a convenient way to give yourself a deep tissue massage on your hamstrings, calves, thighs, ITB, and hips.

~Once you're checked into the gate at the airport, walk the terminal long enough to warm your muscles and do some stretching to keep your legs loose.

~Continue to eat small meals every few hours to continue to re-stock your muscles with energy and repair muscle damage. Pack a meal for the flight and bring a few snacks for the night.
While on the flight, move and stretch your legs every 15 to 20 minutes. You can do this in your seat (if there is turbulence) or get up and walk to the back and stretch while standing.

~Skip the alcohol and go for a tomato juice as it is filled with vitamin C and sodium which will continue to aid in balancing your system.
Get up early Monday morning, take a warm shower, and do some light stretching to loosen your muscles. Wear comfortable shoes and clothes (and still stylish!) and wear that marathon medal to the meeting. Remember you have 26.2 days of bragging rights and this would be a good time to use those rights! You never know...you may inspire someone in that meeting to run a marathon next year!

Good morning:

Just a quick drive by my computer at home is being fussy so I have to post from work.

Did 1/2 hour on the ellip Monday night

Last night Mark and I went out for 3 miles. We had gone to the good feet store on Saturday and purchased some shoe inserts and they really seem to have helped Mark a lot. He had almost no pain during the walk so that is a huge improvement. I figured since we're not training this year and we both have a lot on our plate right now 3 miles would be sufficient for our well being and the team.

Dave, happy b-day, your facebook post is excellent.

OK, now to earn my keep.

Very funny Jack!

It looks like it will be a nice day here today, before we get the cold tomorrow, at least we are skipping out for the weekend and missing the snow, I hope! Last night we got the sprinkler system blown out and turned off, and winterized the camper - I am not ready for winter yet!!!!

Yesterday was not a good day for exercise, I was planning on 6 miles, but both my knees hurt so much that I barely made 3 miles. Hopefully today will be better, but I don't have time for 6 miles today.

Today has been awesome so far. It's my 58th birthday, I feel 20 so I good with that.

The day is cool and clear with warm sun, untill you get in shaded areas then it's cilly. I met my walking group and we did a strong 10 miles. The last section One of the walkers saw a poor little stuffed panda on the side of the road, we rescued it and I carried it stuck in my shorts in the back, just it's little head sticking out, Pics coming.

So a strong 10 miler, baby panda, great weather and good company. Life is good.

Hi guys.

No Captain Connie I didn't do anything for my birthday. I will take my self to Disney in January though. Happy birthday to you to princess.

I had a nice walk this morning, I've been having motivation problems lately and today helped. Did manage 19 miles this week.

I'm sure wanting to be at the WDW with the rest of the group but I'm not so time to get over it.

I did manage to learn something this week, a new way to look at the walking motion. I concentrated on it this week and it has made a difference. When a runner pushes off with the balls of his/her feet he pushes UP, a walker needs to push FOREWARD.

Good morning Team,

Got my 3 miles in yesterday. Hoping to do 7 when the ice melts so I don't have to do the TM!!! :scared1:

Vicki, Yup, it was the Swine Flu (H1N1). It's really not so bad.....but then, I had it while I was pregnant back in the 70's! Don't get me wrong, I was sick and spent plenty of time in bed, but it wasn't any worse than most of the other varieties. My main concern was the ongoing fever which kept me cold! I was in my bed, under the sheets and the comforter wearing capris, sweat pants, a t-shirt, a sweat shirt and socks and still freezing. I couldn't help but notice everyone else was wearing shorts!-- :cake::bday: I hope the Cake for breakfast was simply wonderful!!!

Panda Us too...no Christmas, no Birthdays just a long trip to WDW!! I will be celebrating my birthday while we are there! Well, not really, because my birthday is at the end of January! But I WILL celebrate there!

Jack LOL I am back to my old self! I don't think I'm old, though....although, my kids seem to be old! :cloud9:

Jennifer Hope you are feeling better! No Poomba flu for you! You're too young...no immunity!

Lynn and Scott Stay warm and safe! Hope that knee is feeling great!

okay, I'm outta here! Connie Happy Columbus Day!

Connie, No Poomba Flu! Just a cold that occured with an allergic reaction and knocked me out for a day or two.

Race report: Good news was I'm happy with how ran. It was bettered than anticipated seeing as I was slightly undertrained and just recovered from illness. (Has me wondering what my time would have been had I been healthy) It also keeps me on track for my marathon goal.
Splits were not as even at 7, 7:30, 7:30, 7:45, 7:45. In my defense the only hill in the race was very steep and for the last 1/2 mile to the finish. I probably could have run even 7:15's had I been healthy and/or paced better. The event was well organized and had a nice medal for winning my age group. I was 5th female and 55th overall (out of over 300).
I'm also getting to be considered a real competitor in the area, which makes me feel well. In fact, according to the president of the running club, there are five women that are competitve at every race and I'm one of them. Who wins will just depend on the day and who else is there (we're all within a minute of each other usually)
That being said I really want to win an overall by the end of the year or by June of next year at the latest. It's a lot easier thinking age group win when its rare than when its usual on the local scene.

Oh and today was 10 miles in 1 hr 28 min. Tomorrow's my first 20 miler, wish me luck!

I really need to be at Disney with my buds. The stress of daily life is rather high right now and the break would be nice. We are at odds about what to do about getting our daughters family out of the house and on their own. By January we will be blithering idiots I'm sure.

Erica is taking on lots of extra work days, I think to get out of the house and away from the situation. I don't blame her but it will affect her training in a negative way. We are pressing on one day at a time right now and our love for each other and personal strength will hopefully be enough to get us through this.

I'm meeting Erica for breakfast today after she gets off work and we will talk about a battle plan. She is unemployed, he works part time at Kroger and of course the baby makes it hard for her to get employment right now. That and this area has 14% unemployment.

Training wise I'm hanging on with about 20 miles a week but the stress makes it hard to stay motivated. I'm leaning on you guys hereto keep me pumped. My wed walking group has become a good spark for me also. Sorry to dump on y'all but I needed to vent a little.

Oh Connie, I so understand how you must have felt with the flu! While I didn't have the H1N1, I have been battling some sort of bug for almost a month now. Started with diarrhea the day before my granddaughter was born (this is still going on....going to have some tests run this week). Then DH and I ran in the EEC and got soaked. I guess my immune system was week and I ended up with some sort of flu that just sapped me of all energy.

Today was the first day that I have run since the EEC. I did about 30 minutes walking/running on the TM and it was hard! My energy is coming back slowly but not as fast as I would like. My training for the half should have started the week of EEC, but I have done nada!

Hope I can get to feeling like my old self again soon!

What a difference in temperature! In Toronto today it was about 1C (34F) ... compared to the hot Florida weather of 33C (91F). I guess I'll have to bring out the running tights soon. Went to the gym and worked out today. I was able to get in earlier since it's a holiday here. Did the usual the lunges, weights, burpees and stretches but went a little harder today to burn off some of the vacation eating. I don't even want to step on the scale right now. I'm trying to get back into eating healthy and exercising regularly. I have a 10K this Saturday at the zoo which should be fun but I have no expectations about time.

Mary - Don't push yourself too hard if you're still recovering.

Kim - How's the Goofy training coming? How about Pepsi? Are you still staying away?

Dave - DD is really blessed to have parents who are so generous. Is there any kind of at home work that she can do? Maybe a virtual personal assistant or telemarketing?

Jennifer - How did your 20 miler go?

Connie - SIL had H1N1 too while we were on vacation. She basically said the same thing as you did - lots of chills and just general exhaustion but no worse or different than the regular flu. I didn't know your birthday was at the end of January. We should have a little early birthday party for you at the WISH meet :)

Lynn - How's your knee? Did it hold up for RFTT?

Jack - Thanks for the tips! I didn't know about waiting on post race massages. I usually get mine the next day.

That's all for me! Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hi everyone,

The 20 got pushed back a day due to weather. I did 3 before it got too wet and thundery to be safe. Weather's supposed to be better (not good, but at least safe) tomorrow.

Best,

We had a great time at RFTT, Lynn did fantastic, considering, she is a real trooper. I'll let her fill ya in, it was a very hot one and that slowed me down big time, not bad but noticeable at mile 4.

Anyway, I am in Jacksonville catching up on stuff and work, Lynn is currently stuck in AtTL, she will get to Denver at 12 ish or so and spend the night.

My Garmin 305 has real issues with my leaking (sweat) I need one of those water proof one's, Someone mentioned I have a birthday coming up....of that someone was Lynn...

I miss her already...

I made some decisions and did some counselling and got some things resolved. We have a battle plan now that will satisfy me and get them out of my house.

Unloading the extra baggage made a huge difference in my training today. I did 5 miles on a hilly course in 1 hr even and it felt like a stroll.

Hi TEAM! :wave2:

:hippie: :grouphug: Glad the Battle Plan is working and life will be less stressful. btw I am glad you like those hills! The last two races I did were extreme hills for me-I was happy with my time and pace, but I sure would not want to do on a regular basis! Actually I found it to be more of a cardio workout than leg muscles. :sad2:

Lynn pixiedust: Hope your knee is better.

Connie- pixiedust:

Scott-hope you get that Forerunner 310XT for your B-Day! It sounds like it has some really great features. I have the Garmin 305 too, but it sounds like this one would be the one to tempt me to upgrade-if money wasn't an issue.:goodvibes

Happy Thanksgiving Kim, Sue, and Vicky!

Good Evening Team!

I made it to Denver about 7PM, I did get on standby the 4PM flight (which left Atlanta about 5PM), I am spending the night in Denver and will continue my travels tomorrow.

My knee did hold up for the race, it was not unbearable, I did manage an average pace of 16:12, which is much better than I thought I would do. I am still living on Advil, but not as much as I needed the last few days.

Connie - glad to hear you are feeling better.

Dave - glad you resolved some stuff at home.

Have a great evening all!

Lynn~Glad your knee is mending well. Sounds like you and Scott had a ball. Sorry about your travel woes. I hate getting stuck somewhere I don't plan on. Got snowed in, in Chicago once coming from WDW. How we went from Florida to Chicago then to Providence I don't know. From now on direct flights if possible. I once tried to upgrade to first class for the return from Wyoming, Vegas to Atlanta (again trying to get to Providence.) When I asked how much the guy tells me $2,000. :scared1: Yikes! I explained I did not want to fly the plane just have a comfortable seat!
Hope your home by now.

Wish me luck, have to go to the DMV and register three new G-cars, Dealing with the RI DMV is like having a root canal with out the gas.....:headache:

Good morning team! I missed my 6AM run this morning but will try to get out this afternoon. I'm hoping that the sun will make things a little warmer.

Lynn - Glad to hear your knee held up! Any pictures of the medal? I can related to the airplane woes. I got stuck coming back this time at MCO due to electric problems on the plane. As our plane started to back out, all the electrical systems died. We were delayed by 2 hours and a good portion was spent on the plane without A/C. Ugh!

Jack - That's one expensive upgrade! I've noticed with all the conventions that now take place in Orlando, it's hard to get those business class seat upgrades :( Good luck at the DMV today! Think happy Disney thoughts if you get frustrated!

Dave - Glad you got the at home situation worked out!

Scott - When is your birthday? Hope you get a new Garmin :)

Ugh... getting this 20 miler in is like NASA trying to launch the shuttle, I keep having to reschedule due to weather.

10 miles on the treadmill. Easy in 85 minutes.

We're on a week long fall break so I can keep rescheduling (which may actually be part of the problem)

Jennifer - sorry the weather is not cooperating for your 20 miler, good luck for the weekend.

Kim - have fun on your Alaskan cruise, we are doing one May 2011, so would like to hear what you have to recommend for a May trip to Alaska.

Dave - how are the workouts going with Erica?

I managed a short walk yesterday with the dogs - 1.26 miles - then some leg exercises, today I plan 3 miles and a trip to the gym. Had an appt with my Orthopod yesterday, he was surprised I was progressing as fast as I was with the extent of damage to my knee - so I guess I am just being too impatient expecting it to be "fixed" by now.

Have Fun to all those going to the ToT at WDW.

Scott- let us know how the Garmin 310XT early Birthday present works out!

Vicky, Lynn, Jack - My Little Hagen: His Mom had to be in recovery before he woke up-They had to tape everything down including the mittens they put on him. He did not wake up good and tried hard to pull everything out. He is is doing some better today - Chocolate Shakes are his now favorite thing, but he even turns them down sometimes. It hurts my heart when he hurts.

Jack & Vicky - thanks I much appreciated the well wishes on the race today!

I did the Detroit Half Marathon this morning. It was cold and windy. The sun coming up over the water while way up on the bridge was beautiful, but cold. The drive home was just as pretty the trees are very colorful this year. I got home about 5:pm; stiff from being in the car so long, so I soaked in scented Epsom Salts. I have a few unhappy muscles.

Happy that I beat my last year’s underwater mile (tunnel back into USA from Canada) by just a little bit with a 14:12 – that was my only goal. ::yes::

Lynn - How's your knee doing? Are you going to be doing TOT?

Margie - Congrats on your 1/2! Sorry the weather wasn't cooperating. pixiedust: for Hagen! I hope he's doing better today.

Kim - Try a food journal for a week or so and see if that helps. It's hard this time of year - I find I crave carbs and with fall comfort foods there's never a shortage :( If you're doing cross training, try adding in a weight routine and some core exercises. I've found those helpful for me.

Jack - Enjoy your golf game!

Jennifer - Congrats on getting in your 20 miler! Hope your body isn't too sore today.

AFM - ** Sorry for my laziness I cut and paste this from another thread ** My 10K was on Saturday. The course went through the Toronto Zoo, there were a lot of little hills (totally manageable) but a lot of turns which I don't like. Even though it was cold and it was early, I only saw the zebras and elephants out. I talked to some of the other runners who said they didn't see many animals either. It was a chilly morning - I think about 40F. I wasn't brave enough to wear shorts but I ditched my jacket before we started. I got a PB at 1:00:24 and ran negative splits. My last 3 miles averaged 9:35 m/m so I'm closing in on 9:00 m/m :) Actually I wasn't expecting anything on Saturday because I hadn't been training as much as I could have during my vacation. I do wish I had looked at my watch once at the end, it would have been nice to get my time under 1:00. So a little more speedwork and maybe I'll be able to do that on my next 10K.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Good Morning Team!

Back from a wonderful vacation. Stayed at VWL. What a great location for running. Loved the trail from WL over to Fort Wilderness. Lost count of all the wildlife we saw. So many cute deer. Loved being greeted by the horses & ponies every morning.

Took DD over one afternoon for a pony ride. We spent $$$$ on annual passes & going to the parks. Best part of the trip for her the $5 pony ride. :rotfl:

Haven't had a chance to catch up on all posts but pixie dust to all with colds/ flu & injuries.

Margie, Great job on your race!! I also heard about the weekend tragedies. Very sad.

Good Morning Team!

Thanks to all who have expressed concern about my knee. Doc's say races are fine. Yes, I will be doing TOT race, the pace is slower than the RFTT, so I am not even concerned about being swept. Knee still aches most of the time, I guess it is to be expected, there is still bone on bone, since they took out so much cartilage and so much of the meniscus. I guess a different kind of cartilage will grow back, but that will take several months. There is also arthritis, so they said the knee will ache with changing weather conditions. It does not hurt as much as before the surgery, and they keep telling me that it may take another month to 6 months before I really see the benefit of the surgery. I will see where I am for the WDW half marathon in January.

Sue - glad to hear you enjoyed your vacation!

MaryJ - sorry to hear about the flu, hope you are feeling better!

Vicky - sounds like a good race! My personal best was also on a cold morning, I guess I walk better in the cold than in the heat.

Have a great day all!

Good morning team! I went out for a 3 miler this morning. It was dark - even at 7AM. I ordered a blinking light so I hope that comes soon. I saw a couple other runners wearing them this morning but there definitely aren't as many people running anymore. Not sure if it's the cooler weather or because the fall races have wrapped up.

Went to the gym last night and worked out with a different trainer. We did speedwork exercises and plyometrics. It's a lot different than the weights, core and deadlifts that I normally do. I got a good butt kick! I also managed to knock the medicine ball into my chin - ouch!

Sue - Welcome back! The pony rides sound fun - are they just for kids :) I saw some deer on my trip too! The funny thing was they were in MK - have you taken the train past the tribe of Indians (in between Frontierland and Toontown)? The deer were hanging out there with the fake deer :)

Scott/Lynn - Enjoy TOT! I wish I could have gone. Make sure you post pics of the bonus medal!

Margie - Make sure you're drinking your fluids too! pixiedust: that you don't catch anything. I heard about the deaths at the Detroit marathon, very sad :(

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

A long day (is it really just Tuesday?) but a great run. Aren't those days the best? 5 miles in 41 minutes in perfect weather. I have my first ever 15k on Saturday.

Vicky, I feel you on the being dark at 7. That's about when I leave for work and it gets to me too.

Mary, Is it pig flu or reg flu? Either way, Get Well Soon!

I didn't get tested, but I think it was just regular flu and my temp never got above 99.2. I also am have some problems with my colon on top of that which makes running very far from home difficult.

Good Morning Team!

We did not get the snow forecast for last night, but it is cold and windy here so far today, hopefully it will warm up a bit so I can get the dogs out for their walk before they go to "puppy camp" (kennel) later today. We did not get a walk in yesterday due to rain all day long. We will be off tomorrow for WDW, TOT Race, and Scott's extended birthday celebration!

Hi team! It's rainy here :( I had planned to go out do some speedwork on the track - figures. I haven't used my TM in a year so I'm not sure how it will run. Hopefully it will stop raining by the time work's done.

Lynn - Yay for no snow! I know it's almost November but I say it's still too early. Good luck at TOT!

Scott - Happy early birthday!! I hope you and Lynn have a great time at WDW! Good luck at TOT!

Jennifer - It's a little creepy running in the dark by myself. I'm sticking to the major roads so there's a little more light and I'm not completely alone. Good luck with your 15K this weekend!

Morning team! Well, the rain did stop - it was kind of a misty drizzle which wasn't too bag. So I headed off to the track for some speedwork. I thought the 5K pace was a little boring so I thought it would be fun to see how fast I could go if I just went all out. I got in a lap at 8:30, one at 8:11 and my fastest lap was 7:47 m/m. Now if only I could do that for 13 miles! I wish! I also got out this morning for an easy 3 miler. I saw a lot of raccoons out and about since it's garbage day in my neighbourhood. I'm planning to go to the gym tonight for a 1/2 hour workout. Will ask my PT to have a look at my shin? - the side of my right leg between my ankle and the front has been kind of achy since Monday's workout.

Have a great day everyone!

Jack you keep score in golf the way I do.

The weather is back to rainy here again, guess I really can't complain though, we have had a lot of rain but not all at once the way Atlanta did this year, at least it was spread out.

Margie and Connie are you princesses saving a place in your agenda for January for hugging pandas? It will be the high light of my trip. You guys are doing the Goofy right? I still haven't got Erica training much.

Scott and Lynn, I'll get us some DVC points one of these days. I was hopeing for next year but probably not now.

Vicky, good morning little warrior, are you doing the Goofy in January also?

I had a nice pool day today since it was raining. Hard pool running for an hour.

Good morning, Team!

Got my first LSD in this morning. Mornings like this are kinda hard. I started out at 38 degrees and finished mid 50's! The heat came up fast! It's supposed to be in the mid to upper 70's for a high. I was peeling clothes about an hour into the LSD!

Jack! I always thought that the high score won! But, counting by recovered balls works for me too!!!

Dave! We will be saving some time for Panda hugs. As a matter of fact, Jona and I will have 12 nights in Disney! I am not going Goofy! It was determined that I WAS Goofy when I registered!!! :rotfl:

Vicki! I don't have any pics of the cake, yet! My daughter has them all. But when I can get one, I will post it!

Margie! Yup, dishwasher fixed. Check. House getting cleaned up. Check. Workouts getting done. Check. Looks like I am on track! Hope Hage is leveling out by now.

Lynn and Scott! I did the inaugeral ToT race and I have to agree. Doing a race after lights out is the hardest part!

We hit MK early, and got on several rides before it got busy, then headed over to check out Kindani Village -! it looks great! We are taking is easy today, because of race tonight. We are taking lunch break at our condo, then will hit the pool for a bit. We have a get together for dinner later this afternoon, then we will just have to stay awake until race time. Hi everyone! Got out for a 5.3 mile run this morning - it was overcast but at least the weather was mild. I started off my run fuming a little bit about the NY Times article (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/23/sports/23marathon.html?em) about plodders. Got to the first mile and realized that I had run it in 9:40 mins ... Continued on and saw another runner ahead of me and decided to try and catch up to him. I passed him and then he passed me and then I paced him for a good chunk of the run. Finished with a pace of 9:45 m/m - not bad :)

Lynn - Good luck to you and Scott tonight!!

Connie - Your DD looks so beautiful!! I tend to overdress as well. I'm always reading that you should dress as though it's 10C warmer than it is but I really don't like starting out cold!

Margie - I've stayed off the TM for about a year now. I may use the one at the gym for speedwork once the high school track freezes up. I wish there were some indoor tracks that were closer to my house.

Dave - I'm doing the half again this year. I didn't feel like I was ready for the marathon yet because I'm just starting to get comfortable with the 1/2 distance. 2011 I'll do the Mickey! So another couple of years until I'm Goofy! Save me a Panda hug or two :cutie:

Sue - The week we came back from Disney was in the 2-5C range but I know what you mean about the temperature shock! How was was your spin class!

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend so far!

Update from race...
15k 1hr 13 min 44 out of 250 overall; 2nd age group (age group first was overall female 2nd by less than 30 seconds so there was no question she deserved it)

Did it as a tempo-type run trying to simulate marathon pace (I wanted to take it easy as I have a half-marathon next Saturday) and lost 30 seconds to tying shoe (when your in the top quarter especially those seconds count)

Hey everyone! It was a gorgeous day today but I skipped my 3 miler. I think I might have pulled my achilles yesterday. I felt a little bit of a pinching sensation during my run yesterday but it didn't last very long. Went shopping and when I came back, the part of my leg just below my calf and above my ankle was really sore. It hurt to put pressure on it going up and downstairs. DF's friend was over last night, he's a doctor and I tried to ask him about it but he wasn't very helpful (as in their card game was more important) :( I'll have my PT look it over tomorrow - though it does feel somewhat better today. On the brighter side, I did get to sleep in today and I think I really needed that.

Mary - Prayers and pixiedust: headed your way. I hope everything turns out okay.

Connie - Keeping your DGD in my prayers as well. I don't know much about the gallbladder but it sounds scary, especially since she's so young. Please keep us posted.

Jennifer - Congrats on your race! Sorry to hear about the shoe lace. I had that happen once and now I always do double knots!

Good Morning team!

:grouphug::grouphug:pixiedust:pixiedust:to all those that need it - and it sounds like there are several who are in need today.

I didnot do as well as I would have liked in the TOT race, but I did get thru it. My average pace was 16:50, so a bit slower than the last race, but my knee did hurt more at the beginning of the race. Because it was at night, the temps were tolerable. The "mystery" part was fun, but I never did hear the solution - I finished too late, and apparently no one else was interested enough to get the solution. I did get the extra medal. I do not have pictures of the bling - I am sure there are pictures somewhere - maybe Scott can transfer them.

Foggy here this morning, we are meeting cruising friends for breakfast.

Good Morning Everyone.

I have not been MIA just out of the state. I was in Houston for a time and now back and into the working groove. Mark and I went out for 3 miles with Nick yesterday. The city built a paved trail that we had never tried. What a beautiful walk. No traffic and we cross 1 street in 3 miles. We do cross the bridge over the river and that was a beautiful spot. There is also a bronze steer that was donated by a meat packing business on which the trail ends up. It was a beautiful day here in NH yesterday and today is a repeat of it. We may go out for another walk on the trail tonight. We probably won’t go as far as the bridge as Mark isn’t thrilled with the height and it is Monday ..my early start at work.

My little princess Josie is now 7 weeks old and smiling at her queen mum. What a joy she brings to us.

I do have some miles to record because our convention in Texas was 8 blocks(big ones) from our hotel so I did get in a lot of walking, and the George R. Brown arena is rather large too.

Have been keeping up with most of your adventures and do love hearing all the news. I’m not going to do any of the Marathon races this year but it was funny yesterday, I wore my 08 ½ Marathon shirt from Disney and we met someone wearing the 09 one on the trail. I said, Hey I have one of those too.

My best to all and Scott, we can’t wait to see pictures. Hope mine below can be seen.

Good Monday Morning Team!

Jen/ Scott/ Lynn, Congrats! on your great race results.

Vicky, Take care of that Achilles. Did this happen after your speed work? This is also an issue for DH. He really has to monitor his running pace & take the time to thoroughly warm up before heading out on his run. He has to rely on his Garmin to keep him at the right pace. If he pushes too hard this results in injury again. Oddly enough it's because the hamstring is too tight.

Connie, PD for your DGD.

Mary, PD for you.

Hectic weekend as usual. Went to spin on Fri/ Sat. Long run on Sun. Still able to run in shorts. :thumbsup2 so I was happy.

Good morning everyone! Wow lots of postings already :) Hope everyone had a great weekend! Anyone have plans for Halloween on Saturday? I have a massage scheduled during the day but no plans for the evening. I bought a winter coat on the weekend - hopefully that will get everyone a couple more weeks of mild weather. When I came back from WDW, I bought a bunch of sweaters because it was so cold and as soon as I did, it warms up. Heh!

Scott - Glad to hear you're enjoying the birthday celebrations! Can't wait to see the pics :)

Lynn - Thanks for the race report! Congrats on finishing ToT! Glad to hear your knee held up!

Kim - I saw you posting on the Buffalo marathon thread. Are you thinking about doing that one? I missed the early registration for the TO Women's 1/2 by a day so now fees have gone up $10 ... now I'm kind of tempted to do Buffalo and make it a running/shopping weekend.

Margie - WTG on your b2b!! :cheer2: Yep I'm registered for Donald again. I can feel that I'm ready for Mickey in 2011 though. I feel like I should have progressed to a marathon by now but slow and easy wins the race :) (Or so I keep telling myself)....

Sue - I think I pulled/strained the Achilles on Saturday but I didn't think I was running that fast. I felt a little bit of pinching, slowed down and then it went away. I actually didn't notice any real pain until I went to the mall later on. It seems to be doing better today but still feels tender. But yeah, it seems like I tend to get most of my injuries when I push to go faster. But then how do I get faster if I don't push myself :confused3

Jennifer - Good luck with the parent teacher conferences tonight!

Denise - Josie is soooo cute!! What a cute little outfit :) Is that snow in the picture with the cow?

No, it's granite. We are known as the Granite State and we do have plenty of it around.

Actually it did snow when I was in Houston 2 weeks ago. It was up north but the got a few inches. It's a beautiful day here in the 50's, perfect for me.

It's finally fall here, without rain, for a change. Good training walk in the 36 degree, sunny morning. Two tech shirts, hat and gloves, as well as running pants were just right. I didn't go fast but it was still a good effort, 5 miles on my hill route in 1 hour 3 min.

Mark, Miranda, Josie and I went for 3 miles on the trail again last night. Sun was setting but it was still a beautiful evening. Josie slept through it all.

We are heading to WDW in about a month, so we need to get our legs in shape for all that walking.

Off to put on the warpaint, start my day.

Hi to all!

Hi everyone! I had my leg checked out my PT yesterday - he says it's nothing serious, I just tweaked the soleus muscle. Phew! :thumbsup2 He said if it was a tear or something more serious, I'd definitely know (and probably not be walking very well). We did a couple of leg exercises and weights and it felt fine by the end of the session. I gave myself one more day off and I'll be back out tomorrow morning for a temp run. I got my blinking light in the mail yesterday so I'll open that up tonight and figure it out.

Jack - Sounds like there's a bit of a story there... Are you allowed to share? :)

Dave - Wow! That's chilly! Keep warm :)

MaryJ/Connie - Any updates? Hope all is well pixiedust:

Kim - :wave2:

Have a great day everyone!

Hi guys, today was basicly a rest day for me. I have been having problems with a tight left hammy so I did 2 and a half on the treadmill and then a major good stretching routine with a lot on that hammy. It feels better now.

Denise we bought a jogging stroller so as soon as Erica gets a day off and it's not raining we will take baby on our training walks.

Scott are you and Lynn home now?

Everyone have a super day.

Dave, I hope you and Erica can get the baby out in the stroller soon.

Jack, I hope your case of the mondays gets better soon.

Rainy day (at least it was today and not saturday) so I went to the gym. 5.25 on a treadmill in 40.5 minutes (a little slower than HMP)

Goals for saturday's race are as follows, 1. maintain PR (sub 1:43), 2. new PR (sub 1:40), 3. NYC Marathon Guaranteed entry standard (sub 1:37). Goal 2 is the most realistic in my opinion.

Still have two more runs.

Best,
Jennifer

Hi team! Did a 3 miler this morning. It felt good getting out after skipping two runs! I wore my new blinking light and ran on the road. There weren't too many cars but I think the ones I passed definitely saw me. I noticed they slowed down and moved over a little more than usual. Did a slightly slower pace (11 m/m) and everything seemed okay. I shower and get ready for work and as I'm walking into my building my leg starts up again ... Arrggh! Depending on how it feels tonight, I might skip my run tomorrow morning. Very frustrating. :headache:

Hi all,

I'm in a weird part-taper/part-peak weak. 8 miles in 1 hour 8 minutes (8:30 pace). 3 days to the 1/2 that will help me decide my marathon goal.

Best,

I have a tight IT band today - It's always one thing or the other. :confused3 I feel like Mr. Bump (http://www.amazon.ca/Mr-Bump-Roger-Hargreaves/dp/0843178388) some days.

Kim - They were giving out lights? I missed a freebie :laughing:

No I ordered this one from RoadID. Jeff gave me a $2 off coupon code.

Did I tell you that I forgot to register for the Toronto Women's Half and now it's full? Whoops - I guess I can do the Sporting Life 10K now. I didn't register for that one last year because of the half.

Scott - Have fun on Dumbo! That's still one of my favourite rides :cutie:

That's all for now! I'll check back in later! Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Good Afternoon Team!

We had fun with our Dumbo do or Die - got thru Fantasyland, headed to Tomorrowland, just to learn it was not open, it was Frontierland instead (because of the rehab of Space Mtn) - so we also got in Splash Mtn and Big Thunder Mtn and Haunted Mansion before the park opened! We are currently chilling in our room - came back for lunch - it is really hot outside! We will shortly be heading out again into the heat!

Have a great day all!

My 10K classic is a memory. It was one to remember to. The morning was horrid, wind, cold ocassional mist of rain and thunderstorms threatening. But as it turned out the rain never came and since everyone had the wind and the cold it wasn't an issue.

I was first walker in the 10K and one of my walker students was second right on my shoulder. So total team panda results was first and second in the 10K and 3rd in the 5K race. Unfortunately there are no awards for walkers so we have to just treasure the memories. None of us won the cash from the drawings either.

The only real down side was since it was about 3000 entries we had a large crowd standing around for 2 hours waiting for the awards results and the cash drawings. I was frozen to the bone and stiff by the time it was time to go.

Captain Connie-will PM you my October miles & time- it is so hard to believe that October has come to an end already!

Congratulations, Dave! Nice races-Bummer on the lack of recognition of any kind. I've never been in a race where other than the top finishers earned the money and that always seems to be a runner...:rolleyes1

Scott & Lynn-Safe Travels and hope the flights are on time. I seen where several flight were canceled. :rolleyes1

We had lots of cute little Goblins stop by! ::yes::
It did stop raining afternoon. But still no sun, high winds, and a bit chilly for the little ones.

Did get my walk -the wind was breathtaking! :upsidedow
