Walt Disney World opened!

Have any fun stories about your first visit?

I DO!

Mom and Dad decided it would be fun to hop in the car and head to Florida....and this was pre-Interstate I-75! :scared1:

(Yes, we basically came to Florida via Orange Blossom Trail!)

Mom and Dad had seen on TV that Uncle Walt was building this great new place, and we had better get down there to visit!

One small problem!

We took our vacation in AUGUST of 1971!

YEP! We missed the opening by just a few months! So instead I got to spend a few hours at the preview center (Which is now the AAU building on Hotel Plaza Drive). Just thinking about it still makes me mad! :lmao:

I just remember 2 things from our first visit to the MK...

1) Tripping as I got off of Space Mountain
2) Having to ride IASM because my sister wanted to ride and my parents didn't want to...that song has haunted me since...

I had a first visit to the Vacation Kingdom that didn't happen as well.

Thanksgiving week 1972 my mom, dad, older brother and myself attempted to see the entire state of Florida in a week. By the time we got to Clermont, I had earache and fever  so I stayed with my mom while my dad and brother went to WDW.

I remember they brought back one of the big Mickey lollipops for me.

My first trip where I actually made it into the park was the summer of 1976; I remember the bicentennial parade they had back then.

Happy 27th birthday to EPCOT as well :cheer2:

My first trip was during college with a couple friends. I remember being blown away with Main Street. We stayed at a dive hotel and took a cab into downtown Orlando to pick up a rental car! I still have pictures from that trip.

Last year when my Dad was in the hospital (one of the many times!) I ran into one of those friends - they were sisters and their father was in the hospital too, I hadn't seen them in years. The funny part was that I had to cancel a trip to Disney because of my father's health and I ended up seeing someone that I went to Disney with for the first time.

I do not remember my 1st trip as i was a newborn. However I found pictures of early trips this weekend. Anybody else have any they are willing to post? ( I do but I will not get to it until tuesday...I have friends from SanDiego in for the weekend for the game!).

Anyway my Mom likes to remind me about how I needed to be carried everywhere (I think this was my 3rd trip) and I needed her to carry me, not Dad. Unfourtunatly Mom was 7 months prego with brother! I was little I was only 1 ish.

Too true!

Bobby Brady: Mom always says not to play ball in the house!

Cindy Brady: I'm not a snitcher; I just tell it like it is.

*Carol walks into Mike's den to show off her new ensemble for their weekend vacation at a dude ranch*
Carol Ann Brady: What are you going to wear, Mike?
Mike Brady: Oh I don't know... my cowboy boots...
Carol Ann Brady: [in her best John Wayne impression] Well ya better wear somethin' else, or you're gonna get arrested!
Mike Brady: Not to mention sunburn!
