I leave the DIS alone for five minutes and look what happens!!! :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Nice one, Claire - I can't wait to set sail with you and Lee!!! :thumbsup2 And thank goodness you started the Meet & Greet thread for our cruise - I was getting worried I might have to take on the responsibility myself... ;)

DH (Richard) and I (Karen) booked this cruise last week. We'd made a couple of dummy bookings whilst on the Magic 2 weeks ago and promptly transferred one to this cruise on September 21st... Richard has always wanted to do an Alaskan cruise so I knew this was a done deal as soon as DCL announced it! So here we are. We opted for the last sailing (or LAST CRUISADE...?!!) as I thought it might be less busy and it certainly seems to be at the moment...

I can't believe we are on the same cruise!   How fun!

I thought the same thing that it may be less busy plus we like to travel in September as most kids are heading back to school. :thumbsup2

It's an awesome coincidence, Claire!!! :yay: I'm really looking forward to it as we had such an amazing time on the Magic - don't tell anyone but I think I love cruising more that WDW...

..I thought the same thing that it may be less busy plus we like to travel in September as most kids are heading back to school. :thumbsup2
Yes, I think so... ::yes:: September as a great time for us too - Uni hasn't returned for me and work's a little slower than usual for Richard...

BTW have you sorted list of the Pandora stores in Vancouver yet..? :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl2:

I am so excited that we will be cruising together. :goodvibes

LOL - I can see how it could become addictive. ::yes:: We had a fab time onboard the Wonder & didn't really touch the surface of all the things that had going on onboard, 4 nights was not long enough. ;)

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: That is so funny, I have only been booked on the cruise an hour & already we are talking about finding Pandora stores. :lmao: Lee was not amused with how many I bought in Orlando (along with everything else) so it will be our little secret. ;)

Well, we have to get our priorities right, Claire!!! :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl2: Actually I was very good. :littleangel: Just bought the one charm in St. Thomas and that's completed my main bracelet - which is a bit of a relief. I had honestly thought I could wear two at a time but they're so flippin' heavy, I can't manage it!!! So I think I'll just alternate... Anyway, I have the list already cut and pasted into my Alaska file so your secret's safe with me... :rolleyes1

I know it's a bit early but any pre/post cruise thoughts??? ;)

As the Wonder departs on the Tuesday, we're initially thinking of flying into Seattle the preceding Saturday and spending 2 nights there before heading to Vancouver. There's a cool-looking train journey (Amtrak Cascades) between the two cities that takes 4 hours, so that's a thought... Once the cruise is finished, we'll probably spend a couple of nights in Vancouver then Richard wants to see more of British Colombia. So I guess we'll take a trip on the Rocky Mountaineer to Banff!!! We hope to stay here overnight and I think we'll fly out of Calgary on the Saturday... Depends on the cost of the flights and whether it all fits but at least it's a start...

Just giving us a little *bump* back to page 1... Anyone else out there wanna join us??? :goodvibes

Maybe this will be the 'Claire & Kaz' cruise!!! :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl2:

Bizarrely, I'm on another cruise thread (Med: August 28 2010) and that's pretty much a 2-woman show too - maybe it's something to do with this time of year...?

Ooooo please share the list. ::yes:: I have taken some photos of the charms I bought & will post a pic when I get round to uploading some. We took over 4000 photos & muggings here is the one that needs to sort them out! :scared1:

We haven't really talked about it yet but we both want to extend our stay either after or before. I have always wanted to do the train through the Rockies so I would imagine we will probably do that.

Well if we don't get any others join then 'Claire & Kaz's Alaskan Adventure' could be our name.

The cruise I have just been on was mainly a 2-woman show, until she came along I was talking to myself a lot. :lmao:

HI :) My dsis (Amanda) and I (Annette) booked this cruise this week. This will be our 9th DCL vacation, unless we squeeze another short one in between the WBTA and this one. I told my dsis a long time ago the only way I would do Alaskan cruise is if Disney did it :)

Our last DCL trip was Sept 10 and all the crew members were very excited about taking the Wonder to Alaska.

Can't wait to get to know all of you :)

Hi everyone!!! I just returned home from the 7 night Eastern Caribbean and booked this cruise while onboard. This will be my 6th Disney Cruise unless I work something in for 2010.

I will be happy to help with any DIS activity planning if needed. On last weeks cruise I organized a cabin tour, PJ Breakfast, Fish Extenders and a Secret Mickey. I also created a group page for the cruise on Facebook. It was a great way to get to know everyone a little better before the cruise.

It will be myself, Pam....my daughter and her husband.....Leissa and Charlie (they also went on last weeks cruise for their honeymoon and will be celebrating 2 years on this Alaska cruise).....not sure who will be traveling with me, but I will let you know when I know!!:)

Looking forward to getting to know all of you over the next 2 years!! It will be here before we know it tho!

Our TA booked this for us while we were at WDW last week. It will be me, Terri, and my DH, Brett. I will PM the details. Our last cruise was the Panama Canal Cruise on the Magic. This will be our 4th cruise. Last week was an exciting week for use. We were at WDW (always exciting), booked this cruise and bought Disney Vacation Club...all in one week. We like to travel outside of the summer months when things seem a little calmer. Look forward to getting to know all of you.

The cabin tour is a tour of different categories that are booked within our DIS group....you basically volunteer to open up your cabin for a brief tour so each person can see what the different categories look like. Last week we were lucky enough to have someone in the Roy Suite so we ended the tour there and she had concierge bring cheese, crackers, fruit and drinks for us. Usually it starts on the lowest deck and goes up from there and is held on a sea day.

The Secret Mickey is like Secret Santa. You submit your information such as favorite character, favorite scents, things you might collect, favorite foods, hobbies, sports, etc....whoever is in charge of this would take all the names and assign everyone that is participating to someone and then you would purchase small gifts for your person and give to them thru out the cruise....via FE or have the room steward deliver it. Usually on the last sea day we all get together to find out who our Secret Mickey was.....it is lots of fun.

The PJ Breakfast is held in Lumiere's or Tritons on a sea day. It is held at whatever time the dining room opens (7 or 8am)....everyone comes to eat in their PJ's. This has to be set up with Disney in advance. Shutters will take a group photo for a fee.....

I am soooo looking forward to it!!! Booked our pre-cruise Barcelona hotel last week (we're going 3 days earlier) and I've been systematically stalking poor AndrewDerekUK for details of his private tour people!!! :rotfl2: ;)

...Did you have a lovely time in Paris?
Yes thanks, hun... :thumbsup2

It was a bit of a working weekend - Richard was in the office on Friday and we had the huge matter of getting rid of the 100% knackered, oversized, unwanted sofa in our 100% cream-crackered, undersized but most definitely wanted apartment!!! Sounds simple BUT the place is on the 4th floor, the lift's tiny and we were quoted a gazillion euros by a removals firm!!! SO Richard bought several saws, a 100 enormous bin bags and proceeded to cut the condemned couch into pieces!!! It took a while but it worked!!! :woohoo: We did get the chance to have a couple of lovely meals out tho'... :goodvibes

I bet you have fab time. :thumbsup2

We won't be cruising next year though, we kind of decided a few months ago that we want to go back to the West Coast next year (we've been to LA, San Diego & Vegas before) but not quite planned it yet......the rough plan is fly in to San Francisco (I have always wanted to go there) & stay for 4 or 5 nights, then drive down the coastal route to Anaheim & spend a couple of nights in DisneyLand (:woohoo: Not been here either), then drive to San Diego for a few nights, then fly to Vegas for the last few nights & fly home from there.

Sounds like a pain in the you know what but these things have to be done. That is the kind of thing Lee would have done but probably with a sledge hammer rather than saw.

IMO it's always good to mix it up a bit - there's just so much of the world to see! I find that sometimes our (OK, MY ) Disney obsession pushes other options onto the backburner so we make a concerted effort to try at least one new destination per year... This year we managed Dubai, the Eastern Caribbean and there's a chance I'll go with Richard to Dublin on business in November. Apart from that, our next one is skiing in Chamonix over the New Year - we've rented a chalet and all the children plus partners are tagging along so it should be lovely. We've never been here and we've never had a catered chalet - so all new... TBH I'm still not sure about the skiing part (I've tried and not enjoyed it in the past) BUT everyone else can ski, so I'm determined to give it another chance... ;)

Boy, I was hoping that someone would start a thread for this cruise. I was waiting until today before starting one, if one had not yet been started.

Hi, I am Brenda and I will be traveling with my DH Eric. We will actually set sail on his 51st birthday (I will be 51 at the time of sailing as well). It will also be an early 4th wedding anniversary trip for us as well (Sep 15). By the time that we sail on this trip it will be my 6th DCL cruise, but only my second 7-day cruise. I must admit, I do love those sea days. I don't know that I will be able to do another 3-day cruise.

I am the lead on another cruise thread on 10/23/2010 and that one already has over 200 people and counting :cool1:. I made a dummy reservation for this trip on my trip in August. That really saved some money, both with the 1/2 off deposit and OBC, not to mention the 10 percent discount.

We currently have GTY Category 05C with early dining and would love to participate in the FE gift exchange. Had a great time the last time we participated.

We look forward to getting to know everyone.

...Hi, I am Brenda and I will be traveling with my DH Eric...
:welcome: aboard, Brenda and Eric!!! :dance3:

Boy, I was hoping that someone would start a thread for this cruise. I was waiting until today before starting one, if one had not yet been started...
Sssh don't tell anyone but I booked on September 21st and was too lazy to take the responsibility myself - so big thanks to Claire!!! :worship:

...We will actually set sail on his 51st birthday (I will be 51 at the time of sailing as well). It will also be an early 4th wedding anniversary trip for us as well (Sep 15)...
How fab - I don't know a better way to celebrate anything than a DCL cruise so it'll definitely be a trip to remember... :thumbsup2 You've got me thinking that this will be an early wedding anniversary trip for us too (September 23rd) and OMG I can't believe it but we'll be whooping it up for 29 years!!!

...By the time that we sail on this trip it will be my 6th DCL cruise, but only my second 7-day cruise. I must admit, I do love those sea days. I don't know that I will be able to do another 3-day cruise...
It's definitely an addiction - and the onboard booking discount and OBC keep us hooked!!! :rotfl2: I love the sea days too - it's just relaxing being onboard and chilling...

...I am the lead on another cruise thread on 10/23/2010 and that one already has over 200 people and counting :cool1:.
I've seen that thread, Brenda - love the title 'serenity now!!!' :thumbsup2 I believe a pal of mine, (another Brenda plus her daughter) are sailing on that one...

...We look forward to getting to know everyone.
Likewise!!! :flower3:

I know what you mean. My DH is always looks at the Disney Visa and sees another 2 or 4 hundred dollars and wonders what's up with that. I just tell him that's just a dummy booking for our next cruise.

I've seen that thread, Brenda - love the title 'serenity now!!!' :thumbsup2 I believe a pal of mine, (another Brenda plus her daughter) are sailing on that one...

Well, that name was definitely a concerted group effort. Eric is going to come with something to put that on.

Which Brenda is your friend? I'm Sunshine Brenda, there is a Colorado Brenda from Denver and I believe we have a Strawberry Brenda from Gilroy. With me being the lead, it was decided that we give the Brendas special names to differentiate us. We may have to do that with Jennifers as well.;)

Likewise!!! :flower3:

Sounds like a fab plan, Claire!!! :thumbsup2 I love the little I've seen of the West Coast and we definitely want to see more... :cloud9:

TBH I'm still not sure about the skiing part (I've tried and not enjoyed it in the past) BUT everyone else can ski, so I'm determined to give it another chance... ;)

Thanks hun. I know what you mean about mixing it up, we both like to travel to other places but I have become a little bit too addicted to WDW lately & it's certainly taken it's toll on poor Lee.....he's been walking around singing "Boo to you" for the past week. :lmao:

Dublin is a lovely place we went there a couple of years ago. I have never fancied skiing (Lee does so I am sure we will go at some point) - well other than the apres ski. ;) I am sure you will have a fab time with the whole family. :cloud9:

We currently have GTY Category 05C with early dining and would love to participate in the FE gift exchange. Had a great time the last time we participated.

We look forward to getting to know everyone.

Maybe we could change the bottom banner to something more DCL-specific... "Cruise till you croak"..? ;) Or "The Last Cruisade"..? We could be the Last Cruisaders...

Here's a quick and rather messy idea - but I think you'll get the gist...

Welcome Brenda and Eric. :welcome:
I like the title and graphic. I already have a pirate themed FE from our Panama Canal cruise. I just realized we will be celebrating our 11th anniversary (a little late, its Aug. 5) on this cruise. We celebrated #8 on the Magic (EB Panama Canal cruise), #9 at WDW, #10 will hopefully be at AKV (club level) and #11 on the Wonder to Alaska. Let me know how I can help out. It was so nice to have an active thread on the Panama Canal cruise. I felt like I knew everyone before we sailed. We did the cabin tours and PJ breakfast too. I overslept for the breakfast, but the tour was fun. We even had a group that did a scrapbook swap. If that is something anyone is interested in I would be happy to help with that. My DH says I should be in Disney heaven with 3 trips to plan for the next 2 years.:lmao:

Hi, Terri. Thanks for the welcome. I thought that I was bad with 2 cruises planned for the next 2 years. Although, I might sneak another one in there, especially with the Wonder coming to the West Coast.

I think that it's great that this cruise is a bit of a ways out, because that will give us all a chance to become acquainted, and give us time to plan some awesome thing to do on the cruise.

I like the scrapbook idea, although I am not very creative when it comes to that kind of thing. But I am very good at executed any ideas that you all may have.

I like the name for the thread. How about "The Last Alaskan Cruisaders"? Just a thought.

Look forward to all of the planning and getting acquainted.

It's the best way to celebrate anniversaries! ::yes:: :lovestruc :cloud9: We started with our 25th (September 2007) when we sailed on the Magic for the 1st time and renewed our vows. It was so fantastic and an experience we'll never forget... :goodvibes Last year we went to DL and did the last Mexican Riviera cruise and this year we were back on the Magic once more for the Eastern Caribbean/Tortola... Upcoming, we'll have #28 on the late August 2010 11 night Med cruise and #29 will be on this one with you guys...

An active thread is definitely the way to go - we had a great one on our last cruise and it really made the trip!!! So you can count on me to chip in... ;) The scrapbook swap sounds lovely - sadly, I'm just not crafty tho' I can do computery design stuff...

When do you plan to come to DL? We are just an hour and a half away and go at least once a year. I want to back for my b-day in December while you get in free on your b-day. But I must admit, I have NEVER been to DL during the Christmas holidays. I want to go just once because I hear that it is breath-taking.

It will probably be around October time next year. :thumbsup2 We plan to fly to San Francisco, stay a few nights then drive down the coastal route to La & then stop at DL for probably 4 nights, onto San Diego for a few more nights then ditch the car & fly to Vegas for the last few nights then fly out of there back to London.

The itinerary may change though as I haven't booked anything yet. We have spent time in LA, San Diego & Vegas before but never San Fran or DL so any advice/must do's or hotel recommendations would be fab. :thumbsup2

We have plenty of time to decide how to do it, but usually it is just items related to the cruise - activities, ports, the ship, etc. The more open ended the better. Some just provided stickers and embellishments in our Panama Canal swap and others had everything needed to make a page. I have a Cricut and most of the Disney cartridges so I can make characters or titles pretty easily. I am still working on my last cruise scrapbook, but never too soon to start the next one.

I like the Last Alaskan Cruisaders. I am not much on computer graphics so I will leave that to others, but I can incorporate it into a scrapbook page for sure. I did do some pretty simple magnets for our stateroom door.

Hi Karen

We will miss you by a couple of weeks, sailing on the Aug 9 th Alaska cruise this time. You lucked out by switching from the Aug 15th Tortola cruise as the hurricane forced us to miss Tortola.

Have fun

If you keep an eye out on Quidco, they often have cashback offers for iPhone contracts, Claire. Plus they're shortly going to be available on Orange so expect something of a price war!!!

I've resisted the whole iPhone thing which is strange as I am an avid Apple/Mac consumer!!! And everyone else in the family has one... Problem for me is the shape of the phone doesn't sit comfortably in my rather small hands BUT my DD Sophie (whose hands are smaller if anything!!!) has recently acquired one and she says it's just a case of getting used to it... I'm getting better. I can now send and receive emails. I just have to get it to sync my contacts/calendar on my Outlook. I hardly ever use the phone and never text, but my company gives a discount on the service so the cost isn't too bad.

Problem for me is the shape of the phone doesn't sit comfortably in my rather small hands
CustardTart - I have the opposite problem, my fat fingers find it hard to hit those tiny letters/numbers.

SO when my current contract expires, I may well sign up as the connectivity with my MacBook would be awesome... :thumbsup2

Thanks for that Karen, I will keep an eye out on Quidco. I know they are going to be available on orange soon so will look for that too. :thumbsup2

I'm home alone this evening - 2 nights in a row which isn't ideal - who knows what damage I can do with my friend, Mr Amex!!!????? :lmao::rotfl2::lmao: Anyway, I've been taking a look at potential excursions (courtesy of A Nother cruise line...)

Anyway, here are just a few of my faves...

Alaska Bear Adventure.
Ketchikan, Alaska.
Experience the thrill of taking off from the Ketchikan waterfront in a floatplane to one of the finest bear-viewing venues in Alaska. It is then a short van ride to the trailhead, where you will hike a well-maintained trail to the viewing platform overlooking rapids where runs of salmon head upstream to spawn. It is here where black bear gather to feed and bald eagles perch in the surrounding trees waiting for the fish scraps left by the bears. This is an experience for the nature lover and photographer. Access to the area is controlled by the U.S. Forest Service to minimize the impact on the wildlife population and to protect this fragile environment. Flight includes full narration, guaranteed window seating, and an authentic Alaskan Bush Plan certificate.

Coastal Wildlife Cruise.
Ketchikan, Alaska.
Join a high speed boat ride in search of black bears, eagles, seals, sea lions, porpoise, orca and humpback whales. In early summer before the salmon arrive wildlife is on the move. Bears come out of the forest to forage on beach grass and dig for clams. Whales, seals, sea lions and eagles follow schools of herring and needlefish. In late summer see how wildlife follows the salmon toward their spawning streams. This tour is designed to give you an opportunity to see a variety of wildlife from a unique, high speed boat specially designed for viewing wildlife. Although bear viewing is the primary objective of this tour, approximately thirty minutes is allocated to viewing eagles, seals, and whales which may be sighted enroute to and from the bear viewing area.

Neets Bay Bear Cruise.
Ketchikan, Alaska.
Join a boat ride to remote Neets Bay for the chance to watch black bears feeding on salmon in their native streams and along the beaches. After a narrated drive to Clover Passage, board a high speed boat and travel 34 miles to Neets Bay where your captain will scout the shoreline and you will see where bears catch salmon as they enter their spawning streams. You will stop near a salmon hatchery where it is common to see several bears at once. Your sightseeing will be from the boat, where pictures and video may be taken of the bears, eagles and seals which are also plentiful in this area. Bear sightings are not guaranteed.

Dog Sledding & Glacier Flightseeing.
Skagway, Alaska.
Combine your helicopter flightseeing tour with one of Alaska's favorite sports - dog sledding on a snow covered glacier. After flying over spectacular glacier sites, land at the dog camp on the Denver Glacier. Experienced guides will introduce you to the world of "mushing" and the art of dog sledding. You have the opportunity to stand on the sled and mush or relax in the sled and observe the breathtaking environment. Meet professional mushers and friendly dogs on this unique Alaskan experience.

Eagle Preserve Rafting Wildlife Quest.
Skagway, Alaska.
Just outside the Southeast Alaska town of Haines, the Chilkat Valley boasts the world's largest concentration of Bald Eagles. This journey combines a cruise on the Lynn Fjord with a float trip through the world famous Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, one of Alaska's most accessible wilderness treasures.
Begin with a cruise through Lynn Fjord in a motorized and heated catamaran, viewing the scenery along North America's longest and deepest fjord. After arriving in Haines, drive through the Valley of the Eagles to the heart of the Preserve. An 18-foot raft awaits to take you on a voyage of discovery through the braided waters of the Chilkat River system. As you float silently along, your guide will explain the unique human and natural history of this special place. The guides are experts at spotting the many animals that call the Preserve home including grizzly bears, wolves, moose, and of course bald eagles, and impart a love of the land that will be yours forever! At the end of the float, a picnic-style meal is provided before the return cruise back to Skagway to rejoin your ship.

Horseback Riding Adventure.
Skagway, Alaska.
See the remains of what was once a city of 10,000 greedy stampeders as you wind your way through one of Alaska's most breathtaking valleys just as the original stampeders did...on horseback! This adventure begins with a narrated drive from your cruise ship, through historic Skagway and on to Dyea. You'll then enter the Klondike Gold Rush National Park and begin your trek on horseback. As your horses near the old waterfront of Dyea Valley, there will be time for photo opportunities and to see spawning salmon (in season). After your ride, smoked salmon pate and beverages are provided.

Musher's Camp & Sled Dog Experience.
Skagway, Alaska.
Get a glimpse of a truly northern pastime and learn about the life of sled dogs and their musher and see these powerful dogs in action as they pull you through the backcountry of a historic Gold Rush site. During your van ride out of Skagway, your guide will acquaint you to the area's Gold Rush history and the present day community. Arriving at the dog camp, you will meet the dogs and climb onto a wheeled sled that has been custom made for running during the snow-less summer months. The husky team will whisk you along a one mile wooded trail through some of the Southeast Alaska's Temperate Rainforest. Spruce and hemlock trees, thick spagma moss, glacially fed waterfalls and views of the Taiya Inlet Tidal flats surround you on this unique excursion. There will be time to cuddle husky puppies and take a guided walk through the musher's camp and learn about the equipment, hard work, and great husky strength that goes into the life of dog sledding in the wild, rugged North.

Alaska's Whales & Rainforest Trails.
Juneau, Alaska.
Whale sightings are guaranteed on this unique outing combining a small group marine exploration with a hike on a lush rainforest trail at the Mendenhall Glacier. Your naturalist guide will share stories and local perspectives as you ride out to the trailhead. The selected route is up to 1.5 miles long as it winds its way beneath a storied canopy, along a verdant marsh and out to a secluded beach. This small corner of the Tongass National Forest is home to beavers, eagles, salmon, porcupines, and even black bears. Following a short drive, you'll climb aboard an exploration vessel specifically designed for a unique wildlife experience. The customized covered watercraft puts you eye to eye with the denizens that thrive in these protected waters. Humpback whales, Orcas, sea lions, porpoises, seals and sea birds are commonly seen. Keep a camera handy as you travel from place to place or drift quietly to capture the behaviors and antics of these notable marine residents. The small group size of this tour ensures a personable and interactive atmosphere making the most of your one of a kind Alaska experience.

Photo Safari by Land & Sea.
Juneau, Alaska.
Step off the beaten path and capture the hidden places! This exclusive tour is designed to engage photo enthusiasts of all levels. Your naturalist photographer provides expert interpretation while sharing tips and techniques to enhance and share your images. By land, at the Mendenhall Glacier, you will be taken along a scenic moraine trail. This gentle walk leads to beaver dams, salmon streams, icebergs and remarkable glacier panoramas--sites to inspire your creative photography. By sea, board a covered exploration vessel for an unforgettable journey through the pristine waterways of Stephens Passage. Large panel windows open to give you unrestricted views, while your captain safely maneuvers to give you the best angle on the shot. This excursion has never had a trip without a star-studded cast--often including humpback whales, Stellar sea lions, Orcas, harbor seals, eagles, salmon or even black bears. Witness Alaska's natural wonders as you strive to capture that "magical moment" in the medium that's worth a thousand words.

Better start saving!!!

I just focused on the wildlife/animal ones, Claire - they were loads more on the *cough* Celebrity website I looked at... My only concern is the expense but it's just $$$, right??!! Maybe if that exchange rate could possible stir it's stumps just a little in our favour we could load up our FairFX cards to the max and be prepared...? ;)

Anyway, back to the million dollar question of when will they release cruise excursions!!??? The 1st Alaska cruise is on May 3 and the Platinum/Concierge cruisers get to book their excursions at 120 days out so the latest could possibly release them would be around Dec 10 2010... I guess there's a chance it may be earlier as they could release them all (including the La to Vancouver Repo) at the same time as the whole Panama Canal/Mexican Riviera shebang..? In which case, my best guess would be circa August 10th 2010... BUT who really knows - only DCL and they won't tell!!! :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl2:

Hi!
My Mom and Son and I are going to be on our 3rd DCL cruise!

:welcome: aboard!!!

Glad to have more cruisers along... :yay: :woohoo: :yay:

Yesterday I read about all the proposed expansion to the Magic Kingdom's Fantasyland - I can't believe I missed this!!! It was announced at the D23 Expo but I was soooo obsessed with what DCL were up to that I didn't pay much attention to anything else!!! How remiss of me!!??

If anyone hasn't read about it (or am I the last person in the world not to be up to speed..?) here's a link (http://land.allears.net/blogs/dnews/2009/09/walt_disney_parks_and_resorts_2.html)... ;)

I'm also excited about the changes happening to DCA - World of Color and Cars Land sound fab - hopefully we'll get to experience at least one of them in 2011 as we're planning to visit DL before the LA to Vancouver cruise... I also read that Hong Kong Disneyland is going to get 3 new lands by 2014 so looks like I may have to plan a trip there. And lets not mention the whole DVC in Hawaii thing!!!

I am having a really crappy day. I'm not 100% - God bless stomach flu!!! :faint: Also had to churn out a couple of essays with a fuzzy head - TBH I couldn't even spell criminology let alone write about it... :headache:

And to cap it all, I am now in crisis over the LA/Vancouver Repo we have booked for April 2011!!! It was all very simple, if a little tight, until I checked (again) my Uni dates for 2011. Now it seems my finals dates have come forward a week which throws the whole vacation into question... :furious:

I haven't checked in here in a couple of days. I got caught up in the ADR mess yesterday for our Feb. trip. I finally just gave up and was able to book online this morning for the only two ADRs I wanted. This is supposed to be a relaxing trip and we are going to wing it with most of our dining, but had to get a couple of TS meals. I am hoping in Feb. it won't be too bad or we will be eating at CS all week.

Can't wait to find out about the Dream schedule this week. Maybe another cruise in 2012. We usually cruise every other year and do WDW every year.

We got The Wave, Biergarten and Tusker House. I was only going to make 2, but read the DIS about reserved seats for Finding Nemo if you eat lunch at a certain time so I reserved that. I may have to try Beached and Cream. A sundae for lunch sounds great. We end up eating late lunches and snacking the rest of the day when we don't have the dining plan.

Hmmm....it would be so nice but I really don't think we will be booking anymore disney trips or cruises for a few years. :sad1:

That's a shame, hun! Maybe a Girly trip then??? ;) I got an email from BA this morning with some craaaazy Club World prices to/from Orlando in the early part of next year. I was pondering a sneaky week in early June to celebrate the end of my second year of Uni... :rolleyes1

Here's (http://www.britishairways.com/travel/business-flights/public/en_gb) the link to the flights, Claire... I think the CW prices look OK - compared to VA UC anyway for the same sort of dates - almost £600 cheaper... Anyway, it's a thought... :goodvibes

What does everyone think of the Dream? I am a little concerned about the staterooms being smaller. We usually stay cat. 10 or 11 so that 15 sf can make quite a difference. I am pretty sure this Alaskan cruise will be our only one in 2011, but the Dream may be a possibility for 2012. Can you believe I am already planning for 2012!:rotfl:

I guess I have accepted the college situation..

yesterday when I got home from work, I clean DS#1 ( Geoff's) room... put things aways, cleaned the top of his desk and dresser, ( I did notice a lot of contacts.. maybe he will have to wear his glasses) did laundry especally his blanket and vaccumed.. it looks so nice now..

so I guess he is gone at least until May..

DS#2 got his ACT results.. it was a practice one to let him know when he needs to study...although I sent the results to IA, IN, ILL and OHIO State - the real one will be in April.. already got a nice letter from IN re
garding receiving the scores..

I am home today. putting off shoveling the driveway again.. guess I'll clean and do some laundry. Tonight will be busy with BSA and tomorrow I work at both jobs..

We are thinking about transferring this trip to the Dream. We could do a 5 day double dip with a stay at WDW before and/or after for our anniversary in early August. Still haven't decided. I still want to do Alaska, but the airfare to Vancouver is outrageous. Maybe watching the Olympics will convince me it is worth it.

Helloooooo cruisers!

My name is Jennifer and I'm from Maine, if you couldn't tell by my ID. My parents, Everett & Jeanette) & I (35) will be joining you on the last Alaskan Cruise and are as excited as you can be 580+ days out. We'll be in stateroom 6550 and as we're sharing a room this time (it's cheaper and I have to keep an eye on my mother) we'll be fighting over who gets to hang their fish extender outside the door.

In 2004 we did a 4-night cruise with other family members and in 2008 my parents and I were on the 15-night EB Panama Canal Cruise with Terri & Susan, though the 15-night turned into a 10-night for us as my mom got sick and we had to jump ship in Aruba. I also did a 7-night western with my nephew in 2005.

We're already planning to fly in early and spend some time in Vancouver. After the cruise, we'll be flying to Disneyland for a couple days too as we didn't get to see or do much before the 15-night cruise.

Not sure how much I'll post for a while as I'm crazy busy with work and planning another vacation, but had to post as I FINALLY remembered my DIS password and haven't been able to get on until recently. Hope you all don't mind, but I'll be taking our ship for a spin 3 weeks from tomorrow. I'm taking my niece (16) and nephew (13) for 4-night cruise during Feb school vacation followed by 2 nights at BCV. <sigh> It's not long enough but any Disney Cruise is better than no Disney cruise!

Cheers!

Jennifer

The Dream looks fab, I can understand how it would be tempting to switch.

I'm having some doubts TBH - I have just spent a week in the Alps and had the most miserable time! My DH is desperate to do this cruise but I'm concerned I won't enjoy it... Oh well, plenty of time to make a proper decision.. ;)

Hi everyone!! I dont know when the last time I was on here was....we have had so much going on with Thanksgiving, birthdays, anniversary, Christmas and New Years.....we snuck in a very quick weekend trip to Walt Disney World on December 5. It was cold and rainy!!! I had forgotten all about it being Walt's birthday that day. Then 2 weeks ago my mother in law died of double peunomonia. So needless to say, I have not slowed down long enough to get on the DIS.

I am gonna go back and read, but looks like we have new members and may have lost or will be losing some of you.

I need to check the Facebook page to see if we have new members there.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Talk to you all soon :)

Morning Mooseketeers!!! :wave2:

Thought it was time to check in and give us a *bump* in case any others want to join the final Alaska cruise of 2011!!!

Last time I confessed that I was feeling a little concerned about the weather on this cruise, so I pulled out my Alaska guide book and an average of 66 degrees doesn't sound to bad at all - more like an English summer and certainly not what I experienced in Chamonix over the New Year!!! ;) So I'm still in!!! :thumbsup2

Anyway, hope everyone is keeping well and having a great 2010... :goodvibes

Hope everyone is doing well. I think the weekly count down is great. Remember "yesterday" when it was like 93 weeks to go :rotfl2:. And WOW, 10 weeks have gone just like that. Amazing!

Man, I thought I was really early booking this cruise, and here you guys have already been partying for MONTHS.

We (DW and I) are actually cruising with friends; both couples are mid-50's, without kids, but wanted to do Disney in Alaska. DW and I have done Alaska on Princess, and both couples have done multiple DCL cruises out of PC. We're both on deck 7, with cat 5B cabins on port and starboard, so we figure we can always break into each other's rooms for the best views.

While its still very early, I thought I'd recommend an excursion we have taken in the past (and have already scheduled for this trip in 2011.)

Harv and Marv's Alaska Whale Watching is one of those small, family owned businesses that gives personalized service. They take up to 6 people on small boats out for whale watching, so if the idea of being on a small boat doesn't appeal to you then this isn't the trip for you! The boats are enclosed with a good sized deck if the weather is good, and you can get some fantastic pictures.

We saw several whales, and had sea lions come up to the stern of the boat (the skipper stopped the engines when he saw them coming up to us; they scrupulously adhere to the environmental laws). I got a lot of great pictures, including a whale fluke and the sea lions.

I can't post links or pics yet, but you can google the company name to find their site (or maybe PM me).

Hmmm, seems I'm not loquacious enough to send a PM yet ... so here's our info for this cruise:

fshagan, 7112, 2nd Dinner Seating (no FE)
Frank (55)
Jan (54)

I notice that we are the oldest people listed so far. How the heck did this happen?

Not by too much - and I do believe 50's are the new 40's!!! ;) Or something like that, anyway... Now you come to mention it, I'm still having trouble grasping the notion that my DH and myself will be 48 on this cruise!!! :rotfl2:

While its still very early, I thought I'd recommend an excursion we have taken in the past (and have already scheduled for this trip in 2011.)

Harv and Marv's Alaska Whale Watching is one of those small, family owned businesses that gives personalized service. That sounds fabulous, Frank!!! Thank you very much for the tip - whale watching is definitely something I'm keen to do so I've bookmarked the website (http://www.harvandmarvs.com/)... :thumbsup2

I started saying that when I was close to being 50 too! Still, I do think of my parents when they were 50, and can't imagine them snorkeling or doing many of the things we do.

That sounds fabulous, Frank!!! Thank you very much for the tip - whale watching is definitely something I'm keen to do.

We already booked 4 people with Jay (not sure if he is "Harv" or "Marv" this year ... they alternate each year). They have four boats and four skippers, so there should be plenty of room for all. There are also bigger boats that take 50 - 60 people out, and those boats might be better for anyone who is afraid of motion sickness. The waters are pretty calm there, but you do get more movement on a small boat than a large one.

I haven't seen the list of excursions Disney is offering through the ship. I'm assuming they match up with the ones offered by the other lines. We took one that included a train ride up to the Canadian border, and then a bus ride into the Yukon, but it was not to our liking. Too much time on a bus for us. After that excursion, we canceled our similar excursion in the third port and did a walking tour of the town. We enjoyed that much more!

But our favorite was the whale watching with Harv and Marv's. I can't wait to go back!

Hey all, got some good news and bad news. Good news is that you may see me on August 30, 2011. Bad news is that I'll be walking off the Magic as you're all walking onto it. I'm jumping ship for the week prior to sail with some friends and got a better rate booking onboard the Wonder this past week. Have fun planning!

Cheers!

Ohhhh that sounds fab! Whale watching is definately top of our list, we did it in Sydney, Australia a few years ago & absolutely loved it.

I still haven't decided if we are going to switch to the Dream or not. DH is leaving it up to me. I am sure I will love Alaska and the cruise, but the flight to and from Vancouver is the scary part. The Dream cruise would be a double dip and during the week of our wedding anniversary (Aug. 5).

fshagan, I have you beat. I am past my mid-50's. DH is going to be 45 next month. I always say age is a state of mind.

Glad to see we have some new folks.

I think it ends up being a decision of ship vs. itinerary. On DCL, the ship is a big part of the experience, more so I think than on other lines. I'm bored with the Caribbean cruises unless there are ports where we can snorkel or do other things (we're taking a 4-day NCL cruise in three weeks that has three ports, and was about 1/4 the price of DCL). For us, there isn't that much to see while at sea in the Caribbean. After three cruises with DCL there, and two on Princess, we decided to take advantage of a sale and try another line. (We don't have high expectations of this trip, as we are going mainly for the ports).

Alaska is different. There is a lot to see, even on at sea days (the inside passage has great scenery, and there is a lot of wildlife all along the way). Being on the Wonder at the same time ... well, that is a plus. OTOH, because Alaska is so spectacular, a less expensive cruise on Princess or another line might like NCL that does a round trip out of Seattle might work for you later.

So if you love the ships, and the Dream is that much more spectacular, being on a familiar route on the Dream might be more important than being on the Wonder in a new and interesting route. I would put Alaska cruising on your list of things to do, though. It is a wonderful cruise to take.

It was our favorite thing on our cruise, but we were lucky on our trip. We had great weather, had sea lions come up to the boat, saw whales, bald eagles and a ton of other wildlife. I asked Jay, our skipper, and he said that even during inclement weather when you are inside the cabin of the boat, you still see a lot (it has big windows).

When I get up to 10 posts I'll post some pics!

There was a herd of them ... er, flock? gaggle? school? Not sure what you call a group of sea lions, but there was a "bunch" of them, about 8, that came up to the stern of the boat to check us out. Jay, the captain, cut the engines when they started swimming over toward us. Regulations require that the boats don't approach the wildlife within a certain number of yards, but if the animals come up to you its OK. We had about 10 minutes "talking" to them before they got bored and swam off.

I have more pics I'll post of Alaska.

We were close, but I kind of cheat ... I have a Canon point-and-shoot camera that has a 12x optical zoom (S3-IS, the current model is something like a S20-IS). It isn't a fancy digital SLR with an extreme telephoto lens, but I can get closer with the zoom than most digital point and shoot cameras.

It sounds like they will have a lot of Disney passengers that day! Here's another pic of an eagle we saw motoring out of the harbor ...

And some more sea lions ... no telephoto on this one, they were this close!

The ears on these guys make them sea lions rather than seals.

When we were on Princess, the other whale watching excursion sponsored through the ship was on a boat like this:

http://www.frankhagan.com/images/BigBoat.JPG

They get from 25 to 50 people on the larger boats. While I prefer smaller boats, the larger boats like this have less movement while under way, and might be a better choice for someone worried about sea sickness.

You see humpback and killer whales in Juneau; this is a humpback:
