As you can see in my pics, the seas were very calm when we were there in 2008. That's not unusual; you are in pretty protected waters. Anything can happen, I guess, but we found the entire cruise to be easy sailing!

I wanted to introduce ourselves. I guess we are the only ones in this group traveling with young kids, who will be starting the school the day after we return, but we couldn't pass up the opportunity. Sorry, we just switched our cruise to the Dream on August 2, 2011. It works our better for us. We still want to do an Alaskan cruise, but it will have to wait. Plus I want to see the Dream. It is a double dip with 2 stops at Castaway Cay.

We just got off an 11 day Mediterranean Cruise on the Magic and are now looking froward to Alaska. Our DIS group was very active and involved before the cruise and while on-board, we had over 100 staterooms which ment over 260 DIS'rs. We ended up with a web site, sharing lots of information and excursions. Looking forward to meeting all of you. :cheer2:

That's a great size group of DISers you had on your Med cruise. My DH and I are on the August 28 one and our meet thread has been super-quiet. It's the luck of the draw, I guess. So far this thread has been pretty quiet too - hopefully things will pick up once we get nearer to the sailing... :thumbsup2

Needless to say, my husband and I are planning to make a reservation on this cruise. I have always wanted to do a Cruise, but my husband was worried he would be bored, so he said the only way he would do a cruise was if it was to Alaska, and now Disney has the Alaska itinerary... it seems like fate! :yay::yay:
I am a Disney fanatic, trying to get to WDW every other year or so... Just got DH to WDW in December of last year, and he still hasn't caught the bug, but I am going to keep trying!
Anyway, I have gotten all the way through this thread this afternoon and I am more excited than ever to make this happen!
Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

I booked with the Disboard's sponsor Dreams Unlimited, and while you don't really save any money, you do get a bit extra on your on-board account. I did some research into the "sale fares" on some of the big internet sites that have "low, low fares" from all the cruise lines, but they tend to not include everything in the price like the Disney site does (Disney quotes the total price, not "per person, double occupancy", and includes trip insurance, fees and taxes IIRC). When I added everything up, the price was virtually the same for Disney's site, Dreams Unlimited and the impersonal big internet site. So for the extra service I got from Dreams Unlimited, it was certainly worth clicking through from Disboards to them.

We are on the 2 day cruise to nowhere!

Cindy - it is a 2 night cruise out of Los Angeles... it is the 2 nights between when the PC cruise arrives and when the 1st MR cruise leaves. Jan 21-23, 2011. It is almost sold out. A few cabins pop up occasionally...if you are interested, I would watch the site to see. When I checked for a client this morning, there was a Cat 11, a Cat 5 and a Cat T available still.

Not much participation yet guess there are not a lot of people looking a year ahead. I have seen a couple of logos so far on other dates using the route map as a base, have not seen anything very exciting though - any ideas ? :artist:

No unfortunately it opened a few days after I got back from WDW in June so we just missed it this time. I'm spending a day there before my Dream Inaugural cruise in January so would love to hear your opinion if you go in December.

There will be 7 of us. Myself Vicki (40), DH Marty (43), DD Adriane 13, DS Zach 8, DD Stephanie 7, DS Isaac 4, and DS Vincent 1.

We were originally on the June 7th sailing, but had a conflict during that time so we decided to switch to this cruise. It turned out to be cheaper for us too--which is always a good thing :goodvibes This will be our 9th cruise on DCL.

We would love to do the fish extenders game too. My kids, as well as us adults :) enjoy playing it too. :thumbsup2 We are in connecting rooms 2622 and 2624 and have 2nd dinner seating.

We are looking forward to this cruise! It is my husband's dream cruise to go to Alaska. It should be fun! I am looking forward to getting to know everyone!

My parents are gifting me this trip to Alaska on Disney (they didn't want to do WDW) for an early 50th ~ I have wanted to go back to Alaska since our last family trip on Princess in 2009. So instead of four of us (my sister can't make this one) it will be just the three of us. My Mom and Dad and me. We are on deck 6 and have 2nd Dining but what is FE?

That should be "Tracy Arm Fjord" on the map! Note the "j" in the word "Fjord". Haven't been there, but I hear its spectacular!

I still haven't convinced the hubby how exciting this will be, but luckily he is willing to do this for me! :love:
I will make him happy since we are going to take the train (Amtrak) from CHicago to Seattle. We did that train as part of our honeymoon and it was our favorite of all 6 or 7 different Amtrak trains we took on that trip. I am hoping to work out some kind of return trip via canadian rail, but am not sure how to get back to northern Indiana that way... Oh well, we have LOTS of time to work on it!:cool1:

Sorry - we won't be cruising with you on this cruise, but we are switching our cruise dates from this cruise to the week before - Aug 23rd to Alaska. This week works out better for us especially since the kids will only miss 1 or 2 days of school instead of a week or more.

Yes, we did a 7 night Western Disney Cruise and we loved it! It was our 1st 7 nighter, all the rest have been 3-4 nights. we really enjoyed Cozumel. We are really looking foirward to Alaska too. I have heard positive things too from people who have been there from other cruise lines.:goodvibes

We just returned from WDW, wanted to do the Panama Canal but the end date was 2 days too late for DD's college return for Spring Semester. :sad1: Hoping they find reason to do another one in the future.

We are looking at Whale watching in Juneau as well. We are also looking into putting custom excursions together in the other ports to be sure and hit the Fjords, the Rainforests and the Glaciers. Hoping to include boats, rafts, hiking, float plane and vehicle. Would like to include a train just have to see if we are going to have enough time to put these things together.

Not sure which rainforest she ment, but if she ment the Glacier Gardens in Juneau then yes I would say skip it. We did this tour on our 2009 Alaska cruise and it was not a big wow thing.

I have read there is a rainforest tour in Ketchikan now that one I don't know what it is like. The Ketchikan one talk about the wild life you will see too where the Juneau one is just plants (trees, flowers, furns and stuff like that).

Now, I can start planning and getting into this cruise. We just got back from the 2-day cruise to nowhere and had an absolute blast!!! I am glad to finally start on this cruise.

My DH is trying to decide when we should leave for Vancouver. We have family and friends in both Washington and Oregon that he wants to visit while we are up that way. Just have to wait and see what he decide. I would like to be in Vancouver on Sunday and spend the day Monday sight-seeing.

The Dream was AMAZING!!! It really didn't feel crowded at all--except when the shops opened and everyone wanted Maiden Voyage stuff (Sadly some people were just plain rude). Other than that...the ship was amazing. Here are a few of my highlights:

-The art around the ship was really cool. A lot of the art is electronic, so it moves when you walk past, it changes every day, and when you walk past the art it doesn't always do the same thing.

-The attention to detail in everything! From the tablecoths and napkins to the iron work and chandaliers.

-The Aqua Duck was really cool! If you're sitting in the back of the raft you get soaking wet, but it's a blast!

-The mini golf game up on Goofy's Sports deck was neat. There were tees for Max and Goofy, so you could change up the game if you wanted.

Overall, all I have to say is WOW! I could keep going with highlights! I was really surprised at how the ship didn't feel crowded, and I think that's partially because it's huge compared to the Magic and Wonder. I highly recommend a cruise on the Dream!!:cool1:

The train is more because you have to pay a one way ticket for the train. I think the ticket is $80 or something like that.
