was thinking about taking my family for just a half of a day to disneyland paris, we are going to disney world in december. so it's not like we "have" to go, but then I thought it might also let my oldest son know WHAT rides he might be interested in, etc.
what do you think? worth it? what should we do if we do go?

Difficult for me to say this but 'no' I don't think it would be worth you going just for half a day.
You don't say how many are in your party but I'm going to guess at 2 Adults and 2 Children...here are the prices on the Disneyland Paris Website (http://offers.disneylandparis.co.uk/tickets/index.xhtml)
1 Day / 1 Park Disney Ticket
Prices (valid until November 9th, 2009):
Adult: £40
Child (aged 3-11 years inclusive): £34
So you'd be looking at £148 for an afternoon at one of the Disney Parks which is not good value for money (same as at WDW)
A lot of the rides at Disneyland Paris are totally different to thier WDW counterparts so I don't think you would achieve much in that respect either to be brutally honest with you...I think you'd just be heading towards and expensive afternoon and it may sour your opinion of the park(s) for any future visit's.
If you really wanted to go to DLRP then you'd need around 2-3 days to see the best of both parks and you could probably get away with 1 day at the Disneyland Park (from open to close) to ride most of the rides however you'd be missing a great deal of the theming and what makes Disney different to any other theme park.
Just my very honest opinion, whatever you choose to do I hope you have a wonderful time in Paris.
