They won't start posting the opportunities for volunteering until January but you can start entering the sweepstakes today. Just clink on the pie plate at the top of the announcement website.

my DH & I help run a church youth group every Tues & Thurs night.. I wonder if that counts? It works out to being WAY more than 8 hours a year.

Apparently it is through Handson Network, I think it is organizations affiliated with them

oh I see so it is certain ones not all charities. Good to know.

If you read the FAQs it has info about Volunteer Canada. I believe you would need to volunteer for something through them.

This sounds good- my only concern is that I volunteer now all the time and I would feel a bit guilty helping out a specific organization for only 1 day. I'm afraid that I'll once again get involved in another charitable organization! (more out of guilt than anything!-b/c I'll see the need and I'll want to help)
