Well I'm not a drinker but DH likes the virgin ones. If you like the taste of a CC he suggests the new V8 Smoothie (Colado flavor). He says it comes real close to a Konk Kooler.

Last time we were in Alaska, the curtains were plenty, but that was also a different cruise line. I would expect the curtains here would be fine also.

Just making sure that I was not missing something that I should pack. We stayed at a hotel recently and the curtains had 1 spot that would not close completely so I woke up before I was really ready to. LOL!
My treat is Mickey Ears. I remember going to my local grocer (in a town of 350 having anything was a miracle!) and buying Mickey Ears so it is such a nostalgia thing for me.

It's fun talking about our favorite treats while on board. My boys are already stategizing about how to get their "All Hands on Deck" fruit and cheese platter.
What are others looking forward to indulging in?

Good morning everyone! I have a hint for you creme brulee lovers that you might not have known.
Since Parrot Cay and Tritons share the same galley if you are in Parrot Cay on the regular rotation dinner night you can ask your servers nicely for creme brulee and they will more than likely be happy to get it for you. That's because the night Parrot Cay is on regular rotation so is Triton's :) That way if you love creme brulee you can have it two nights of your cruise. We've done this on a number of our cruises. Just remember to ask nicely. :)

Double checking all my reservations with DCL and found out that our rooms at the Fairmont were not exactly what I wanted, so made some changes to our hotel stays and transportation. You think you have everything arranged just so and find out that you could have gotten a better deal just booking it yourself is not fun. I am so glad that I double checked, was able to cancel hotel and transportation with DCL and just book it myself. It really worked out in the end because now we get to rock a limo from the airport to the hotel. We are still taking the DCL transfer from port to airport post-cruise though. Cannot wait!

I'm half way there now, but just need to get through the 5th grade family night, then awards night, filed day and the student faculty kickball game (can't believe I signed on for that one!) Started picking up things at CVS today, and am ready to make piles. too bad I still don't have the luggage tags - travel agent said cruise line said they were on the way. that was Tuesday - we'll see.

Good information. From what I've been told by friends the key is to layer. So we are planning on long pants, short sleeve shirts, fleece hoodies, and a waterproof windbreaker jacket. We'll most likely wear all layers for our whale watching excursion but maybe just one or two layers for days when we are in port but no on the water.

Finally got a hold of the travel agent, documents are in (I think they've been in for a while and she just didn't tell me), she's going over them this weekend and I'm picking them up Monday. At least I know they aren't still floating around somewhere, I feel better now. Starting piles in earnest this weekend. Thanks for the forcast, it will help me decide quicker what to pack. well with 5 of us i figured a taxi would be not very comfortable and might end up having to take 2 if there wasnt something big enough for all of us which is why i was doing the cheaper route of the sky train. will see what the reply is and see which way it really ends up being.

I know that this may be useless information, but I just got back from a british isles cruise that went to Iceland, and the temperatures looks almost the same as what I just got back from. In some places more north, and if there was a breeze, it was COLLLLLD!!!
The things that you are packing sounds perfect and was what everyone was wearing. I saw alot of people also wearing scarves and gloves too. There was a point where I wish I would have brought them. I am planning to pack for us the same things. Even on the excursions they were recommending people to wear a waterproof windbreaker of jacket of some sort.

Hi y'all!
I've been floundering in other sections of the DIS forum, clueless that there was a very busy group of people in the "meets" section. I am computer skill-less, really. So I have a bit of catching up to do...
There's me and my DS(15) and my parents on the cruise (2612 for us and my parents about 30 rooms away - they booked with an agent after the cruise was sold out!). Michael and I are doing the Adventures by Disney package. Is anyone else?
We live in Campbell River, which the ship passes by twice-weekly (albeit at midnight or 2 AM). We also have a place in West Vancouver. I've scanned the posts and you're all making great hotel choices and you'll love the city...it is beautiful, despite the recent negative media coverage. Everything will be peaceful when you arrive for the fabulous cruise we're all going to have!

I saw your forum activity and am very impressed. I thought I was organized and rarin' to go, but you guys put me to shame!
I am still reeling from the ABD cost, but really didn't want to be bothered with the details, as I've been battling aggressive breast cancer since December (just finished chemo two weeks ago) and am looking for a completely hassle-free vacation with my son and parents before surgery 2 days post-cruise and 5 1/2 weeks radiation thereafter.
Michael and I did ABD Italy in September '09 with my husband (he's sitting this one out) and we absolutely loved the pampering and magical touches...so I'm in for the excitement again!
I'm looking forward to seeing the green ribbon group at the terminal...we're getting there at 11 (you can recognize me because I have no hair!).

yeah dad told me not too long ago that he has another chemo the week right before we leave so our trip out might be draining for him.
the email i got back from the company said a 6 person stretch limo was 65 and then a possible additional 50 for a trailer for luggage depending on how much we had. so i am going to set that up as i think with dad having chemo right before we leave he deserves to ride in style to the hotel. :thumbsup2

I don't know if any of you subscribe to Debs Allears newsletters but they always have good tips in them. A recent one had this tip from a reader. Even though it talks about Florida it is something I do before our cruises. In fact I just called our credit card companies yesterday.
I recently read a tip about notifying your credit card company if you are going to be using your card outside of the country or state. I would add you need to do the same for your local bank if you are using a debit card. On our recent trip, our card was denied the first time I tried to use it in Florida. Because of recent debit card "skims" our bank does not allow any charges from certain states without the card holder's authorization. Florida is one of those states, and I didn't think to call before we left. As soon as I did, the hold was lifted for the duration of our trip and to be on the safe side, I called as soon as we got home to put the hold back on.

Welcome MiceRNice and KitteNsAlaskanbunch!
2 weeks - wow! Finally picked up the documents and luggage tags from the travel agent - now I understand what you all meant by the neat book Disney put together! The agent also had a little suprise for us. Her business is based out of her home, but she still gets the promotional materials that Disney puts out. She saved the promotional poster of the Wonder in Alaska for us, It has a picture of the ship with it's name, Alaska and the year - it's really cool. We're going to frame it and hang it in the computer room.
Today was the last day of school for the kids, tomorrow I just need to check out, and then I'm in full vacation mode. I pulled out dress clothes this weekend, and am slowly working on the the day time clothes now. My hsuband pulled out the suitcases this morning, so now it's offical, vacation is close!
Here's the last call for green ribbons, PM me with your address if you still need or want them. Have we finalized a time for a get together the night before the cruise?
Before you know it, we'll be enjoying the Wonder and beautiful Alsaka scenery!

Hi everyone! How exciting.
We are going on the Alaskan cruise on Wonder in July Yay!!!
We are traveling as 2 adults and 4 kids.
what are some fun things you guys as a group are planning to meet up upon the wonder?
I have tried reading through many pages but there are so many I don't think I can catch up before we set sail LOL
we are ziplining, horseback riding, gold panning and much more... oh and mommy is definately booked in the spa for alone time.
Where are you guys ziplining? We're going the Bear Creek in Ketchikan.

I booked an Alone Time, too...on the last cruise day. And my bedroom is covered with clothes as I pack for warm and cold weather, dry and wet, windy and calm...expecting any kind of conditions makes for a full suitcase...and of course there's the formal wear as well. Thank goodness I don't have a pirate costume to worry about!
I'm getting my son to make some door magnets for my parents and us. I am amazed at the lengths some passengers go to decorating their doors!
I'm also wondering what kind of bug repellent I should bring?

He will have 2 more when we get back. and then he should be done. i have mentioned to him the number of people in our group that are cancer survivors and some that have recently went thru chemo so i think he is looking forward to knowing that hes not alone and havin others to talk to.

As far as the pan pacific one the night before. I think we was going to play that one by ear. with dad having chemo that week and us travelin all that day not sure how jet lagged we will be. But if anyone is interested let me know and I will give you my cell phone number before we leave so we can try to get a time frame that day.

That's original! I'm assuming this is the vintage version of the mouthwash, not the whitening or blue-coloured varieties? Do you spray this stuff on your skin? That sounds sticky!
My son's father just bought a 1946 fishing boat. They're picking it up this weekend. He's hoping to boat out to Disney Wonder as we're passing Campbell River and say "hi" to Mike. Unfortunately, it will be about midnight. But it will be rather neat if it all works out.
I'm rushing to Vancouver right now for stuff. My side trips there always land on a Wednesday...missed the Wonder in port again!

We have started packing and trying to prepare for the possible variety of weather is quite daunting. I think that I may have to re-pack a few times, but I will probably still not have it right. LOL!

I had a barbecue on Sunday. My guests were complaining about mosquitos bites. I remember reading about the Listrine on the boards a few days before.
I quickly found a empty water bottle & filled it with Blue Listerine ( I didn't delute it) I then sprayed it under the table around our leg area & outside the sourrounding picnic table. I sprayed about every 10 minutes, since the table was filled with food. I was shocked it kept the masitos agway. No one was bitten after I sprayed. :dance3:

I like them, they are very colorful. I hear that next year some of them will be polymer.
Haven't been on much as we've been without power since the storms rolled through on Tuesday night. I was able to post a bit from work and now Mark has a generator running so we can get basic tv, our computers and of course keep the fridge and the sump pump running.

No Loonies or Toonies for us, but I plan to get some before leaving the airport. We can always buy some water before leaving the airport. I think someone else mentioned this, but my husband's comment was "monopoly money." He also said that trying to counterfeit Canadian money would be quite difficult. Are there any Canadians out there that can comment on if they have people who actually try to counterfeit? Just curious.

Yes, we get counterfeiting all the time. I don't know how people do it, but they do!
By the way, I still haven't received my Welcome Package for the ABD portion of my trip. I wish I could connect with some other ABD passengers to find out what they received. Because I'm in Canada, I have to receive this stuff from my travel agent, and I have a pretty lame fellow I booked with on-line (allseasonstravel) who can't get it together to send me the package he apparently has in his clutches. I am a little stressed out being constantly told I have no port adventures booked and not having any of the magical milestones to help me anticipate the vacation ahead! Frustrating!

The computers and TV would be 'essentials' in our home too! Our old generator configuration didn't run much besides our sump pump, furnace, fridge, and freezer. Sounds very nice, but you're going a little fancier than I am. I've got a little black dress (short) with two different "jackets" for it that I'm using for Formal & Palo dinner. I'm also bringing a couple of pair of nice black slacks and a number of dressy tops to go with them. We also have pirate t-shirts we may or may not wear on pirate night. That's still TBD.
With 3 nights in Vancouver before the cruise and needing to pack hiking boots, sweatshirts, and jackets I'm trying to keep things as multi-use as possible. :)

You are also a bit fancier than I will be. Not that I have a thing packed but I'm bringing one formal dress, one other dress, and capris and blouses for the rest of the evenings.
Just purchased a new pair of dockers for one of my sons. The men in my family will be sporting dockers and polo shirts for dinner all but formal night. Got to get a little use out of their suits. (Much to their dismay)

one week from today and we'll be in Vancouver
I finished making our FE gifts yesterday and am 1/2 way through our door magnets. We're most of the way packed. Like many of you, we're going less fancy this cruise and will be wearing most of our clothes twice. Trying not to go over 1 bag per person. I'm going to send a box with our FE gifts and other miscellaneous items directly to the Pan Pacific. They said they'd hold it for us until we arrive. I can then stick a luggage tag on it and have them deliver it to the ship with all our bags.
cruisenow01
06-27-2011, 10:31 AM
I did not know if there would be enough time to send the box by mail, so we are just packing ours. We tried to keep it to 1 bag, but it is impossible for us. My husband and I are sharing a larger bag in addition to our carry on suitcases while my son has his suitcase plus a rolling duffel (he may be 9, but he is almost as tall as me so his clothes take up as much room as ours does!). My daughter is still small enough that 1 suitcase is more than enough for her. I am trying not to over pack. I put everything in the suitcase then took it out and removed 1 item (probably needed to remove about 5), but I am sure that I will add something else. I ALWAYS over pack no matter how hard I try.

I'm always running around like a slob at home, so I enjoy dressing up a bit when I travel. I have the time to gussy it up and nowhere else to wear the clothes (our small, northern town is very casual). Also, I hate to be too economical about my luggage when there's no air travel involved. If you're taking planes and trains, it doesn't make sense to lug a bunch of dress wear around.
The Wonder is reported to be passing our house at 5:00 PM tomorrow. I'll try to get some pics! That's good news. I thought it would always be midnight and I would be struggling to stay awake to see home. Hopefully, on our cruise, we'll pass by Campbell River early on, too.

I update them a lot as I think of things for the weeks before we leave (and from suggestions from the boards) and then the day before I put everything in a suitcase. I start from the packing list from the previous year, so I have a good head start.

Good morning my fellow Alaskan cruisers!

We sail in 1 week!
This is our last countdown!
Next week we board the Wonder for our Alaskan Adventure.

I focus on packing lists. I do them on Excel, one sheet for each person. I update them a lot as I think of things for the weeks before we leave (and from suggestions from the boards) and then the day before I put everything in a suitcase. I start from the packing list from the previous year, so I have a good head start.
Boy, you should see the trouble my family gets in if they cross stuff off the list before they pack it, and then they are missing it on the trip...
I'm big into packing lists as well. The challenge this time was that we were doing so much different. Many of our cruises have been 4-5 nights (we did a lot of DVC Member Cruises) and we drove down to FL. This time we are on a longer cruise, flying international and had to replace our snorkels and masks with hiking boots, jeans and jackets. Everything fit with some room to spare to bring back some souvenirs. :)

We are definitely going to see lots of snow! My packing list is including a little bit of everything, but I am going to try to stay warm. I hate being cold.
Packing is also a great way for me to get my son to clean up his room.
Here we go, guys! Less than a week now:dance3:

WOW did we pack a lot of stuff.....Never really packed jackets AND fleece sweat shirts for a cruise before. We may end up paying an over weight fee for our luggage on the way home :scared1: As for my feet I have a pair of Birkies, Tevas, flip flops, and I'm wearing my tennis shoes. I'm no help am I belle26?
Walt and I are mostly packed. Still have to add some cruise casual items for dinner (that happen to also double as business casual for my last 3 days at work before vacation ;)) Guess what I'll be doing Friday night?:laundy:
Will work on packing our carry-on which will have all our electronic devices and chargers.
Have loaded a few good movies on my new iPad2 for the flight. Toy Story 3 for one. I made the mistake of watching the last 10 minutes and then needed to find a tissue. I love that movie.
One son is packed. The other is not motivated.... It's like pushing a rope to get these guys to pack...:rolleyes1

We are each wearing tennis shoes on the plane. We each have a pair of lightweight hiking boots packed that we'll be wearing in the ports, and each have one pair of black dress shoes (of which mine are a slip on closed toe crocs).

Shoes are always a tough decision. I usually pack too many, so I'm trying very hard to bring just what we need. Hiking boots for ports/hiking, running shoes (my plan is to exercise each morning - we'll see how long that lasts), black dress shoes for dinner, flip flops.

A suggestion for the trip...grab the cardboard beverage carriers from Starbucks, Caribou etc. to bring on the ship to carry multiple cups from Deck 9. I save them up just for cruises. I think we will be doing more than normal treks for coffee and hot chocolate.

I did a huge shout-out to the boat as it passed by about 9:45PM heading north. I bought a pretty lousy camera for the trip (it's super small and our ABD is supposed to cover the photos anyway), so my pictures are too dark and blurry to post (O.K. I should have bought the better camera).
Anyway, the ship looked amazing!!!

I got a text message for DCL yesterday. It was really fun! Reminding me to pack my cruise documents in my carry on luggage. Thanks for the tip Mickey :goodvibes
Mary,
YAHOO, hope this set of cruisers takes good care of the Wonder for US!
Printed out our door magnets last night, working on finishing up the FE gifts, got suitcases all over the house. I divided all the tip money into envelopes and tucked them away so we didn't have to worry about that on the cruise. ;)
Tonight I WILL finish the magnets and FE gifts!

Our suitcases are all over the house also, the clothes still in the clothes baskets that we use for the preliminarily packing or hanging on the back of the bedroom door. Walt's still got quite of bit of packing to plan for, but I think I'm good! Just have to call the credit card company, airline and cell phone and then I think I've covered everything.

Teresa,
I called the cell phone company because I just got this new smart phone and was unsure about dat charges in Canada an Alaska. I just wanted to prevent an large unexpected phone bill next month. I think I'm just going to turn the data feature off until we get home, 69 cents a minute would add up, and it's not like I need to get email or anything while on vacation.

Hey everyone! A little late to the party, apparently, but I'll be sailing with all you guys on the July 6th cruise next week!
This is our 7th cruise with DCL and it looks like it's gonna be a great one! The weather looks kinda iffy but hopefully we'll still have plenty of sunshine headin' our way.
In years past we've had the fortune of being onboard during movie premieres or other special events. Anyone know if something like that's going on this time?

Thanks Sue!
I called my cell phone company this afternoon and for 4.95 a line (per month if I forget to change) we can all call and text in CA for no extra. Figured it is $20 well spent to be able to communicate for the 3 days we are in Vancouver. We'll be turning off our data wi-fi there as that is really pricey!
Alaska rates are the same as if we are in Michigan on our plan. Good thing those boys won't have to suffer for days without being connected with their college friends!

Now is the time I admit that on our previous cruises we've never missed our dinner seating. :rolleyes1
In Ketchikan our excursion is proported to be done at 7:45. If my calculation are correct this is the night that lobster tails are served.
Here is my question. Can you get the lobster if you go up to the buffet? I think I read, but didn't pay much attention since we never have eaten dinner there, that you can get items off the main dining room menus there.
The men in my family are disappointed at the thought of not getting lobster.

Teresa - can't answer the question as we've never done the dinner at BBB before. I did read somewhere on the main boards that if you talk to your serving team/head server they might be able to get you late seating for that night in one of the main dining rooms. We're doing Palo that night (since we were getting back late) so you could ask for them to find you a table for 4 and I bet they could do it.

I'm not bringing my uber-winter gear...I'm packing very light long underwear (Wintersilks), then a T-shirt over cargo pants, a jean jacket or fleece jacket, and then a rain jacket or windbreaker. I'm stowing a travel umbrella in my backpack. I think this will suffice for any glacial activity. The weather is prone to change at any time and you will probably experience all types of weather in a single day.

Teresa, here we go with that name Walt again - 2 Walts, both celebrating 24th anniversaries - what are the chances?
Coming down the home stretch, Walt just left for his last day (or night I should say) of work, and I've only got a couple things to iron. Tomorrow, we put everything in the suitcases, do 1 last load of clothes, weigh the bags and get to bed early so we can get up at 2:00 am for our flight to Vancouver. Did I forget to add we also have a family picnic in there somewhere also? It's going to be a crazy day, but it's finally here! Looking forward to meeting everyone on Tuesday!

It will be really freaky if your anniversary is 7/11! Walt isn't a common name that's for sure. You sound like me Sue. I'm just about to leave the office and then will be throwing in my cruise casual clothing (i.e. work clothes) to finish our packing. You have a family picnic too?? :scared1: I plan to sleep on the plane tomorrow!
We are planning to meet around the family pool at 3:30? We'll have to see how my men folk are doing. ;)

:cold::cold: Hope I packed warm enough! Walt's a little disappointed, we had to leave out our pirate outfits, just couldn't get them in without paying for another bag. Guess we'll just have to take another cruise so we can use them!
Well, bags are packed, house is clean, laundry is done, carry on is ready with documents and snacks. All that's left to do is wait for Walt to pack the camera stuff, :scared1: go to the family picnic, and then come home for 1 short night's sleep. :jumping1:

Greetings from warm and sunny Vancouver. Out heaviest bag was 3 pounds under weight. We are exhausted from our travels and just walked to the water for a bite to eat. Tomorrow Stanley Park and the aquarium. We are at the St. Regis hotel and it's a nice little boutique hotel.
Sue, our 25th is next summer and I think another cruise is warranted! See you in a few days!

Greetings from Vancouver as well. Teresa what time did you get in? We got in a little after noon and the line to get through immigration was an hour long. Found out some planes from Asia were delayed and got in the same as a bunch of others.
We had a great ride over to the hotel, have a great view (we have a Hal ship right out our window) and now we are just relaxing in the room.
Teresa we went right past your hotel on our ride over.
Tomorrow is Victoria for us and then on Monday we are doing the hop on hop off bus.

Hi Mary,
We got in around 10:30 am and also had an hour waiting through immigration. We took a town car (actually a Chevy Tahoe) from the airport.
Walked to Gastown. Went past a yummy looking Spaghetti Factory ended up eating at an Irish pub, Blarney Stone, which was just OK. We were too tired to shop (the shops on the cobblestone street looked intriguing). Walked back through Chinatown. We all decided we didn't need to return there.

Hi, double quoted but couldn't figure how to scroll in my new iPad :confused3
We flew into Vancouver International Airport.
Little rain tonight after a beautiful day. It was fun seeing a Princess cruise ship in port.
Our hotel is very nice and a ten minute walk to the port.

We flew into Vancouver International. Tracy let me tell you Black Gloves Transportation was wonderful. I was so afraid that with us being in line so long that they might have left but once we exited baggage claim and went into the meet and greet area there was a sign with our name on it! The gentleman introduced himself and escorted us out to our car. Our driver was very nice and we got to have a nice quiet ride to the hotel. When we were first met I apologized for being so long but he said they are used to it.
Even though we waited a long time the line was very fast and efficient. In fact I mean to say this yesterday but my brain was friend. So far we feel we've been at Disney. First we had one of the dreaded Brazilian tour groups on our flight. They weren't as bad as some we've encountered at Disney through. Second was the wait through all the zig zag lines. A couple of people mentioned they thought they were in lines at Disneyland. :lmao:

You are more ambitious than us. We just chilled last night. Of course there was a Nascar race so we got to enjoy that and watch the two cruise ships sail away and under the Lions Gate bridge. Tuesday that will be us!
We booked a tour through Landsea tours. It is a 13 hour tour but includes a ferry ride there and back, a couple of hours in Victoria itself, tickets to one of the local museums (you have 5 to choose from and you get one set of tickets), a couple of hours at the Butchart Gardens and touring around Victoria.
We got our tickets for the Hop On Hop Off bus to use Monday.

we wont even be sleeping tonite here. we leave about 2 hours after the local fireworks. have a roughly 2-3 hr drive to the airport and then a 2 hour kill time at the airport for checkin and all.. we may end up leaving earlier and stopping for coffee along the way (dad is a big coffee drinker). i stayed up later last nite and slept later today so i could make it to drive. should be no problem as i am a midnight shift worker anyways so falls into my normal time frames of being awake on sunday nites.

Looks to be a beautiful day in Vancouver today. Yesterday was amazing. We were picked up at 8 am in a small 24 passenger bus. Drove south almost to the US boarder to get on a ferry. Then had a 1.5 hour ride over to Victoria. We went outside for much of the ride and the scenery was breathtaking. We saw seals on a small bouy island and an otter in the water. Once we got off it was another great ride around with our guide giving all kinds of great info. He was amazing and very very personable. In Victoria we were dropped off, given tickets that would let us into one of 5 museums and told our pick up time. We had about 3 hours to explore. We stopped at an Irish Pub for lunch, did some shopping, and spent about 2 hours at the Royal BC Museum. After that it was a half hour drive to Buchart Gardens. Words can not do it justice. Those of you who have eaten at LeCellier have walked through gardens inspired by Buchart. We had two hours in this paradise. Back to the ferry and then back to the hotel about 9:30 pm. A long day but an amazing one. Today is the hop on hop off bus. Looking forward to seeing more of Vancouver.

Welcome home! What a cruise, it was perfect! Can't believe the great weather we had! I wish we could just turn around and do it all over again! but this time, I would leave out the zip lining. Man, it's so much harder than it looks! I'm glad I did it, but won't be trying it again any time in the future! I'm still so sore - I don't think our having to run through 2 airports with heavy carry ons yesterday helped either! but we made bot our flights and got home around 12:30 am. Being this was our first exchange, I left our gifts next to the doors of the two rooms on 8 - I really hesitated because I didn't see FE, so I learned my lesson!! Darn it - would have rather given them to our ABD friends.

I cannot believe what a wonderful cruise. The weather was PERFECT! We took so many pictures. Thanks for all the FE goodies. I wish that I could be as creative as some of you are. We were tired and it is going to take a few days to get back to Central Standard time. Unfortunately, my husband was sick the last day with a stomach bug. He is blaming it on food poisoning from the mayo on deck. He spent the whole day in bed at the hotel after we disembarked. The next morning he felt much better, so thankfully it did not last long. Thanks again for helping to make our cruise wonderful!
