So excited! I just finished making the reservations for my DS and I to come down on Tuesday 2/15 instead of Friday 2/18 as originally planned. :yay: Unfortunately, DH can't get off of work so he is still on the 2/18 flight :guilty: We have been to WDW tons of times but we have never ventured off site and I think DS and I may head over to Universal to check out the Harry Potter stuff!
Can't wait!!!
Katie
Hi Katie,
We are also flying down on the 15th... in our case, it was originally because the flight prices were so much lower, but with all this snow, I'm glad for the buffer of extra days! And the first thing my kids picked to do with the extra time was to go to Harry Potter at Universal! The second was eating dinner at Boma. :thumbsup2

Aw Rachel that stinks - I'm always worried that I'll have to cancel a vacation until I leave. Once I'm out of the office they have to find me!
I've been working such long days - and all this ice/snow - I can barely stand the wait. The drive down to Florida will seem fun in comparison!

Wicked bummer Rachel! Well at least you will get some serious "me time" before the cruise.
Almost done packing here - needed to do something on those snow days. I am having trouble finding a clear over the door shoe holder. Everyone (on the dis boards) raves about these on the bathroom door to find stuff fast and on a 7 night cruise. I can envision all my lotions and potions multiplying in the tiny bathroom, crashing to the floor and rolling around. I did get a small organizer at marshalls but it is more for jewlery and small things not cans of hairspray - even travel size! Maybe the walmart close to the port has a shoe organizer (ours didn't :sad2:)
Previous cruisers do you think we really need to bring a power strip for charging up all the electronics? (Another popular tip on the dis boards) I am hiding the kids' DSi, not using our phones and shutting down the laptop for the week. But we will need them for the trip home. The only thing I can think we need to charge is the camera battery.
Obviously I have had too much time on my hands to worry about these details! :rolleyes1

Glad to see some new names!!!! A little pixie dust may come your way..... I went a little crazy w/ FE gifts......picked up things here and there the past few months, forgot most of the stuff I bought of course and so now I have quite a bit!!!
You are also welcome to use my door #8592-- as well for rm# changes and/or to post if anyone else wants to send "bonus" gifts to the other list----"nikkitta28" or whoever makes the master list for Group 2--just make sure you label it for your group---- our FE Group 1-consists of 2 lists... the Mickey and Goofy groups so maybe - a cute similar one for yours!? Sorry if all sounds confusing now....
Speaking of FEs- I received the actual FE I ordered today- it is sooooooo cute!!!- kids got so excited!!
Waga-mama- my daughter will be 5 in June and would love to meet your daughter---just PM me and she'll write back- her big sis 7.5 has been writing back/forth with a few on the boards so this will make her happy to have a friend her age to write to also--- there's at least one other girl their age that we are corresponding with so they will have fun( also have a son 2.5)-- sis that is 7.5 will help them out in the clubs too- first cruise for all of us so they are nervous and excited about the clubs....
And I am sooooooo ready to drive to FL- all of us NYers should just get a bus!!!! We'll pick up the rest on the way!
Ice today was oh so fun....and I've been cking all the temps on my weather ch. App. of our island stops and it's looking good all.....70s, and 80s....I don't care if it's in the 60s.... I'll be happy in a sweatshirt as long as my toes are in the sand!!!!!!!!:cloud9:
Hi Denisees - I tried to PM you but because I am so new to the DISboards it won't let me. It says I need to have at least 10 posts...working on that. I will PM you soon with a message from my daughter to yours, or if you want to provide an email, we can email you!

I found a over the door organizer at Target. It's mesh & it's actually been helpful at home. I hung it on our laundry room door by our garage & the kids keep their hats, gloves, scarves, etc in it. It makes getting out the door easier when they can find all their gear!

I got mine at Target as well. Its an opaque (not quite clear but see through) one. I actually have one on our bedroom door for shoes_what a clever idea, huh?
I bought 2 more before christmas-1 for us & 1 for my sister/SIL. What an odd gift until I explained! I think they cost about $7. We are in Mass too & Ive seen them at a few Targets.
I have the tote going in our room for "stuff" boy is it getting full! Bought the wrinkle releaser the other day-its in a huge bottle. I may need to downsize it. I forgot about the floaties-you mean the arm ones? My DD isnt confident enough without them. Thanks for the reminder.
Im so done with this winter-cant wait to be in the sun & sand with Mickey & the gang!

Nikkittta28-- thanks for the mention for a bonus FE... And like I said some pixie dust may come your way for the newest FE group bc I have extra stuff--but I was offering my door ( not for gifts,) but we are using my dry erase board and door for FE people to post any rm changes or messages to other fellow "Presidents"--- so again people can visit # 8592 to look for changes and post anything they need to for all the exchanges-OK?
Waga- gonna try to PM you in a min....
Not sure if you have them where you are but here in NY we have a beauty supply type store called Harmon's( they are actually aff. W/ Bed, Bath, and Bey. And Xmas Tree Shoppes) anyway they had the travel Downy wrinkle eraser and tide to go, etc---- and my Target had the clear over the door holders.......
Packing this weekend- another 2 -4 inches of the fun stuff tomorrow--- will it ever end?

I have also added a digital (battery operated) illuminated clock to my list. I MUST be able to see a clock in the wee hours of the morning when I wake/roll over. I guess the wall clock isnt very illuminated (has glow in the dark hands that arent very easily seen).
I have also added a small night light for the kiddos in the bathroom. New place & all-dont want any midnight runs to the potty ending up in the hall!
Just went through our closet, cleaned & rearranged plus pulled out some stuff for the trip. Its getting CLOSE!
I have really enjoyed the trip reports I have read. One I found was dedicated to the food alone. Pics of every meal each person in their party ate. Was really neat to "see" it & get some feedback from their perspective. I may very well do a trip report, just because I have learned so much & it would be a great way to relive the trip & have info for the scrapbook. We shall see!
This may be post #10!! Can I be trusted enough now to PM people?

That sounds like a lot of fun! Thanks, we'll try to get there.
My girls are so excited! My 9 is named Margaret, and Lydia is 5.
We live in Georgia. Looks like a lot of New Yorkers coming down for the warm weather. Even Georgia has been colder than usual this year.
What is FE? I am trying to read through all the messages to get needed information for our first cruise. This is a great site!
Linda Farrell
02-06-2011, 10:06 AM
Welcome, Margisue!! It should be a great cruise. The FE is a gift exchange by people on this message board. There is already one that is full and closed, but another one started up by Nikitta28. You can message her to join it. Small gifts, either made or bought. The new FE is for adults and children I believe. FE stands for Fish Extender. There is a fish decoration on the wall outside the room, and you can hang things from it. You can either make or buy a fish extender. It's basically a wall hanging with pockets for the gifts, and a Disney theme on it. I bought one on Ebay a while back, and use it for all cruises. Just search fish extenders there. It's a fun thing to do on the cruise, one day you and your family walk around delivering your gifts to the others in your FE, and you find nice little surprises in your FE when you return to your room. On the cruise board, you'll see threads about FE. Look at them to get an idea of what other people have done.
Hope to see you at the meet on Sailaway DAy!

Is this one just for kids, or will adults participate as well?
Thanks for the information Linda! Can't wait for all of the fun and to meet everyone.
My 9 year old really wants to do the kids club activities too. We are hoping the 5 year old will venture out as well.

This may be a dumb question but I have not been able to find the answer on other threads ( I am still learning my way around this stuff). Are the FEs done anonymously or do people include their name etc.? I am good either way but was not sure what the protocol is. Can someone let me know? Thanks.

BOB:some people suggest putting names on gifts of both giftee and gifter....
that would keep people honest and you would know if you got stiffed by some cheap sonofagun.....
I am not putting my name on them and, since FE's should have individualized pockets, other names would be redundant..........

Hi! Just found out about this board. Have been over on Cruise Critics and wondered why no one was signing up on the Roll Call. You've been an active group, I see!
We're 4 + Grandpa: DH (John), myself (Susan) and 2 DSs (Matthew - 13 and Stephen - 11). My F-I-L is joining us as well and one of the boys will room with him.
This will be our 2nd Disney cruise on the Magic - loved it the first time and am sure we'll love it this time, too.
We're from NY (where else), near West Point. I'm a Boston-area gal transported to a Yankee environment. However, I still root for all the Boston teams. Still in misery over the Pats loss to the Jets in the play-offs. Oh well.
We're flying in the day before, will stay at the Hyatt and take the Disney transfer to the pier. As recalled from previous Disney cruise, it's a good hour to hour and a half ride from Orlando airport to the pier.
Looking forward to meeting you very shortly!!

Just wanted to mention that DCL updated their online check in. If you haven't logged into your ressie in a while, check it out. You can now pick a port check in time for arriving at port canaveral. It wouldn't give me a check in time b/c we are taking DCL shuttle, but others may be able to get one if you're driving yourself.
There are 2 threads on the DCL board discussing this. Looks like they did this due to the increase of people showing up at port for Dream cruises.

Susan-welcome from another Boston area gal! We have to root for the home teams or my DH will evict us. My son could name the team players before some of our family members! And a week or so ago when I was trying to explain discrimination to him I used Red Sox vs. Yankees. "You dont like them because Daddy doesnt-they may just be good!" Ahh! That was a tough sell! Now our DD roots for whomever DH & DS arent-just to get their goat. Yup, she is her mother's daughter for sure.
Anyhow, I am making cruise T-shirts. I need some help! A few yrs ago we had a group of 12 family members go to Disney & we had t-shirts made with "Smith Family Disney Vacation" (in walt disney font) & Mickey ears. (No, we arent the Smith's) This yr its my family of 4 plus my sister & sister in law. I want a cute phrase or something. HELP! I had thought of "It all started with a mouse" (or however that one goes). Hubby wants to use the President's one someone made on here. I am at a loss! Suggestions please, please, please!

Packing is underway and I'll be cking the 10 day forecast to see if any storms are headed our way next Friday!!!! Again driving is an option if I have to...I am getting on that Mickey Boat!!!!!!
Question for you all-- most of you know this is our first cruise ever.. So a few questions.....
Can we bring tubes or water wings for the kids for the pools? Do they let them use anything?
Also how are the temps in the cabins? on the cold or warm side? Does it get warm in those small cabins w/ 5 of us in there? I am asking bc I am wondering what kind of PJs to pack for the kids? Short sleeve/ pants or more
summery nightgowns and shorts? I know it's prob. A little chillier at night but my kids are usually warm at night......

Yes, my daughter's birthday happened to fall during our Disney cruise three different times (she's a teenager). Each time when we let our servers know, they made a fuss over her at dinner and brought her a special birthday dessert.
One time, she was actually waaay too full for a dessert. They kept insisting and she kept telling them she wanted nothing. Eventually they brought her a chilled plate with the word "Nothing" written on it in chocolate ganache. :goodvibes

I just came back from Target w/all the travel size stuff for the cruise. I found the travel size wrinkle release spray!
My DS (5) is counting down the days left.
NEXT WEEK, NEXT WEEK, NEXT WEEK!!!!

I just completed the online check-in!! :cheer2:
Getting excited! :woohoo:
I also caved and purchased travel insurance, SO we should be guaranteed a clear weekend on the east coast next week!
:cool1:
I did too! I have to say - travel insurance is one of those purchases that I hope is a waste of money...

HI Connie
We are driving to Valdosta on Friday after school and work and then getting up Saturday morning for the rest of the trip. I was scared leaving Saturday morning from home that we would be cutting it too close and miss boarding.

Have a safe trip! We are hoping not to get caught in Friday afternoon traffic coming through Atlanta.

Just got off the phone w/Disney. Wanted to know the time of the transfer from Orlando airport to the pier. We're flying in the day before, staying over at the Airport Hyatt (booked through Disney Cruises), then taking their transfer to the ship.
The agent I spoke with said all the information would be provided upon check-in at the hotel. Being someone who likes to know ahead of time what to expect, I kept pressing him (poor guy!). He then told me that transfers begin at 10:30AM to the pier, as ship boarding commences at 1PM. Also explained that there is no "appointment" time for taking the transfer.
Anyone have more info than this? Couldn't find out from him how often the buses depart once the 1st one leaves at 10:30.
Thanks for your help!!

We are flying in the night b4 & staying at Hyatt too. From all the research I've done on these boards, I have learned that the 1st DCL bus usually leaves around 9:45-10 am. The Hyatt will tell you what to do when you check in, but you can just go down to ME welcome desk & check in for the cruise in the morning. They will tell you when the next bus will be. You can wait too & go check in later if you don't want to take the 1st bus.
It's -16 here in Chicago right now. Warmer weather is forecasted though!!! 30's & 40's next week!
My little one has a slight fever & I am hoping it doesn't amount to anything. I was worried about the weather here & not being able to get out of Chicago, but now I am worried my kids are going to get sick.

Just back from the pediatrician - DS on 10 day course of antibiotics for ear infection. No fever or GI symptoms so we should be healthy enough to board the ship. Never a dull moment here!
I'm in the homestretch of packing here. They were remodeling our target here and put back out the over door shoe holders! :cool1: Scored one of those and checked it off the list. Silly little things make me happy.
Cold but no precipitation here (unless you count a few window leaks :headache:)
So looking forward to next Saturday!!! :boat:

Appreciate your quick feedback to my question.
Yes, warmer weather is on its way for us here in NY as well. Finally, our driveway may actually be negotiable instead of a skating rink!
I remember when our boys were younger, one of them would always fall ill right before vacation. For 3 years in a row when we were on Christmas cruises, our youngest would get sick and we'd be daily visiting the ship's doctor. We got to know the Medical Staff of 3 Celebrity ships fairly well!!
Anyhow, now they're older and seem pretty well immune to most things. Hope I'm not jinxing myself by saying that!!
Plans for this weekend: take suitcases down from attic and actually put some clothes in them! Funny, I cancelled delivery of our newspaper already, but haven't given one thought to packing.

My DGD came home with a note in her backpack today that strep has occurred in her classroom.:sad2: Hoping it stays there and doesn't come home with her!!!
On the up side, we are getting really excited for the cruise at this point. Haven't started packing (no room for an open suitcase for a week), but I do have a list of what to pack. I'll probably do it all next Thursday.
Looking forward to meeting you guys in the Promenade Lounge!!

Linda,
Thanks so much for this information! I did go on Ebay and our FE was delivered to us yesterday- it is a cute pink Minnie Mouse one! My girls are so excited they can hardly sleep! Me too. I guess there is something about a first cruise for us! See you Saturday.

Connie, glad I could be of help to you. The 1st cruise is always a little nervewracking, not knowing what to expect, but you will LOVE it!! I thought of a couple other things...Guest Relations has tickets to a Mad Hatter Tea Party and a Galley Tour. You should go the first or second day if you want to get tickets for those. Last cruise, I heard about a chocolate buffet in Triton's on the last night of the cruise, but had to pack and stuff, so I didn't go, but I would like to check it out this time. Something you can also do, through Guest Relations, is on the 1st day, you drop off a Tshirt, pillowcase, frame mat, whatever, a set of Sharpies, and a note with what characters you would like to sign your item, and put it all in a Ziploc with your name and stateroom on it. It will be delivered to your room the last night, signed by all the characters! I got a pink Tshirt for my DGD on the last cruise, signed by "any and all characters", as I put in the note. She uses it for a coverup, and loves it. If I think of anything else, I'll post it.

Yes, I am getting so excited!!!
This weekend we don't have a thing planned-except me who is hot on the trail of any last minute items for our trip!
The kids are out of their minds with the day to day count down, I am buying or setting aside trip stuff daily, sis & sis in law are so thrilled they can hardly keep it together & hubby is excited but oblivious to it all! I have planned Palo, Basket from Shirley from The perfect gift, pampering, all the "must haves" on the packing lists, FE gifts & FE collector pockets (the kids havent seen our FE pockets!!), excursions & simple relaxation with the people I love the most & I few new friends I have yet to meet!
HERE IS MY QUESTION: We are a party of 6-4 adults & 2 children. Do you think we will be at a table alone or with others? We have been on 5 cruises prior to having our children & the tablemates were what MADE the cruise for us.
Thanks & P.S. I cant wait....

We are at the 2nd seating.
I called Disney last night after I posted & requested that our family not be at a table by ourselves. Isnt vacationing about meeting new people & doing new things? I was hoping we could make that type of request & we can. Or you can request to be seated alone (regardless of your party size).
Yup, I'm still excited! This time next week the boarding will be about to begin!

He said the kids did GREAT ( *I* on the other hand Slept TERRIBLE worrying  about him driving straight through with 2 kids 9 & 11)
I Fly down Wednesday into orlando airport because i have to work until Tuesday night....Hubby took as Much as he could with him( OMG THE car was PACKED lol)...I just have a couple things i will have to bring down on the plane...

I know a lot of you have booked excursions already but should I wait to see if the weather will be ok? We are just planning to do the trolley tour/ aquaruim in Key West- I am hoping for the dolphin/ turtle farm-GC and going to Paradise Beach in Cozumel.... Relaxing in CC.....
Also It seems its cheaper to book ( if in advance) on my own and not through DCL- correct?

Check w/those companies you book thru if they give you a refund if the ship doesn't dock. I bought tix on our own for Boatswain's marine park in Grand Cayman, but first I contacted them directly to asked about that. I was assured I would get a full refund if the ship doesn't dock. We saved 20% booking on our own in advance.
I did not buy tix for Key West aquarium in advance b/c there wasn't much difference in cost. We will pay when we get there.
Weather looks great! It will be 40's-50's here when we leave! Also, seeing 70'2-80's at the ports! I'm not sure how cold it will be on the ship at night, but I'm not packing very much long sleeve clothes.
We are leaving this week!!! So much laundry & packing still to do!

I just finished my online check-in (I know, I'm a last-minute kind of gal!) The earliest I could get for port check-in time was 11:30 (I guess the earlier time-slots were filled?) Since we're already signed up for a 10am shuttle from our hotel, we called Disney to see if you really had to stick to the time you signed up for online. The girl we talked to had no idea that you now signed up online for port check-in times! She said we're probably fine since another family in our party is signed up for 10:30 and we could all go at that time. But my guess is that the check-in times are flexible since the feature was just added and not everyone might know about them. Guess we'll find out!
Can't believe the cruise is less than a week away! Now if only my suitcases could magically pack themselves (like I said, last-minute kind of gal...)

The last time we went on the Disney Cruise my then 9 year old stayed at the kid's club until it closed (the younger kids stayed with their grandparents so the "younger adults" could stay out late!) So my guess is that with your kids being 9 and 11 you'll be able to stay out until the kid's clubs close... at least your 11 year old will if my 11 year old gets to him!!

I booked the Boatswain Beach and Turtle farm myself. It was $150 for 3 Adults and 2 kids. We do have to find our own way there. But, it's alot more $$$ for the cruise excursion. We are winging it at Key West. I was thinking about the horse back riding for Cozumel ($35 for a two hour ride with a 20 minute stop in the middle to look at the ruins), but I'm afraid of the weather and a 2 hour ride might make be painful later <3

OUr first Disney cruise as well, can't get the kids to stop packing stuff- they want to bring their stuffed animals, lap desks, winter jammies, summer jammies, every bathing suit they own, etc...
I told my husband, Friday morning I plan to "repack" the girls bags just a bit after they are at school, so they'll never know, until we get there that some things are missing...

Are dress pants and dressy shirt okay for ladies on semi- formal night or do I need a dress? I have one for formal night...just didn't know for semi formal..
Pirates night...do most adults dress up? Or just kids? Or a mixture? We have costumes and will bring if other adults dress up as well.

My DH is wearing sportscoat and dress shirt (no tie) for formal night.
I am packing a sun dress for semi formal night but it is not fancy so I would say the equivalent of fancy pants and shirt.
From what I have read, Pirate Night is a mixed bag. Some adults go all in and costumed in pirate gear but most don't. My DS has a pirate costume he is going to wear and I brought pirate Mickey ears for me and a bandanna for DH.

Boatswain's has a shuttle at the port to take cruisers to the marine park & it's free! There are only 2 times in the morning & 2 in the afternoon though.
We are bringing costumes for pirate night. Dh keeps saying we're going to be the only ones in costumes.
DH will be wearing a tux, but it's b/c he owns one & wants to wear it.
Wow, you all can fit in one bag? Our family of 4 have 2 large suitcases, 2 small, & a garment bag. That's not including the carry ons either.

Tell DH we have costumes too!! No, it doesn't really fit well in one bag, so we'll probably do more. Just wanted to be sure that wasn't a size limit on the large suitcase.
Great news about NOT having to have a tux. My DH will be happy.

Connie, no charge for the Mad Hatter Tea Party. Just go to Guest Relations and ask for them.
We have pirate tshirts for my daughter and me, and my DGD has a pirate dress she got when she did the pirate makeover at WDW. We are not going to get way dressed up...sun dresses for dinner mostly, and a nicer one for the formal night.
Thought of another tip for you...every night in the atrium lobby, they do portraits. A nice one to do is the white background. After we knew about it, the next cruise we planned to all wear black one night and it came out great. I used it for my Christmas card that year, as it was the whole family. They have other ones too, like the ship at night. Leave some time each evening to see if you want to meet the characters or do the portraits. The characters dress differently during the cruise...sailing clothes on day one, pirate clothes on pirate night, formal clothes on formal night.

Thanks for the tip about the portraits. I didn't know they have it set up every night. I thought it was just for pirate night & formal night. I am guessing the lines are long on those nights. I would love to get a family portrait though. When is the best time to go; b4 dinner or after dinner b4 the show? (We are 1st seating)

I understand we have 2 options for lunch on Saturday. For those of you who have sailed before with Disney which do you prefer? The buffet or the restaurant?
missyone
02-14-2011, 07:14 PM
Last year we did the buffet which had a great selection of food. There is something for everyone. My kids LOVED the buffet, especially the desserts!
Question--nothing like waiting until the last minute (booked this trip 1 yr ago), and I'm now looking at the excursions. My kids want to do the dolphin encounter..since their's one on Cayman Island and Cozumel, I'm not sure which one to choose. Does anyone have any information on this, or researched this?
I see that the spa and Palo are all booked...I'm hoping I can get a reservation when we arrive.

Looks like we will all be getting out of NY- and the East Coast!!! We are leaving Friday and its supposed to be in the 60s!! - but back to the 30s for the weekend( who cares we'll be on the boat!)- I was so worried there would be a massive snow storm this week!
Almost done packing... We have 2 big suitcases, kids each have a big duffle bag plus carry-ons-- can you tell it's our first cruise??!! I know I am packing too much but I cant help it. I am not sure what the temps will be from day to night......
Like others mentioned- kids think all the stuffed animals are coming with us... Told them to pack one or 2 special ones- no doubt they will want one from the ship gift shops!!
Quick question-- what should I dress my 2 1/2 yr old DS for dinner? Nice shorts are a no- no right? or is that just no shorts for semi- formal and formal nights? Also what is the attire for all of us for the prince/ princess night? Thanks!!!

I've been following many of your posts concerning packing and can't help but be amused. I'm always in awe of the family who boards the ship with just a couple of rolling duffel bags. My family, on the other hand, brings enough luggage to hold an outfit for every conceivable weather event!!
We also are leaving early Friday morning and I am no closer to STARTING the "packing event" than I was a week ago. Probably why I'm waking up at 4AM in a panic!
While chatting with Disney Cruiseline folk yesterday, the very helpful woman told me that, even on Formal Night, men are not required to wear sportcoats, let alone a suit, tux or even tie. She said as long as my DH wore a button-down shirt, that's acceptable. I was surprised to hear that and will be curious to see how many menfolk abide by that guideline. DH will be wearing his suit, our DSs (ages 13 and 11) will wear dress shirts and ties.
Someone had asked about the temperatures on the ship at night. Pretty comfortable, but I always like to have a lightweight jacket or shrug for myself, especially if my top/dress is sleeveless. Sometimes, the air conditioning can be chilly. However, I pack summer-weight PJs for all of us. You can always adjust the temperature in your cabin and ask for additional blankets if necessary.
I can procrastinate no further, it's off to begin packing. Now, where'd I put that darn Packing List. . . ?
Vyann

Thanks for the insight, my DH is refusing to bring a sports coat. I told him the rest of us would eat without him <3 He will be glad to hear that he won't get booted from the dining room. We aren't leaving until Saturday morning. I'll be worried until we get to the port. But, we are using Disney transport. So, since the luggage goes straight to them and the weather is looking okay.... My 8 year old has grown out of everything. I have to hit the outlets this afternoon. I still have to pack. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone. Sitting at MCO waiting for our flight home :(. What a fantastic vacation. Hope that everyone had a great time, too. We loved all of our FEs and it was a highlight of each day for my son to run back to the room to see what was waiting. Thank you for the gifts! We loved it so much we booked our next cruise - Fantasy in 2012!!!

We are home to cold & snow! It feels like my house is swaying. When will this feeling stop? I am thrilled we had great weather all week. The only disappointment was arriving late to Castaway Cay. Our sting ray excursion was canceled. Does anyone know what the medical issue was for stopping in Key West?
I am willing to admit 2 moments during the cruise that brought me to tears.
1. During the sail away party, when they counted down & blew the horn for the 1st time. That made it feel real.
2. At the end of the Farewell show in the theater, I told my 2 yr old to wave good bye to Mickey & he started crying. He didn't want to say good bye. Of course I welled up.

My husband heard from a staff member the next day that the stop was for a 20 year old woman, that she was doing *much* better already, and that the stop had probably saved her life! Wow.
We had a great time on the cruise and none of us were ready to come home yet. :sad2: We are consoling ourselves by seeing if we can manage to swing one of the Mediterranean cruises next. :) Oh, and we're now officially gold castaway club members! :yay:

Congrats on becoming Gold Club members Coastingthru! Thanks for the update on the passenger - I was hoping we would hear of a happy ending.
Woke up to snow here too this morning but I'm still in cruise mode so I didn't let it bother me! :cool1:
We had an absolute blast! Thanks to all for the FE gifts (especially loved the Nova Scotia pins - made me think of my cousins!) We ended up booking another cruise onboard - the deal was too good to pass up. Now we just need to decide when and where! It will be interesting to see where the Magic will go once the Fantasy replaces her.
Now off to unpack...

Im sad to be home in this snowy/cold weather...I also dont like making my own meals :lmao:
This was our 2nd Disney Cruise ( last one was in 2005 eastern ) but we have decided to stay on dry land from now on- no more cruises for us. We are going to stick to WDW or maybe even try an all inclusive family style resort somewhere WARM of course!

Yes-you read that right! We missed the cruise!! Delta cancelled our flight out of Boston due to the lightening/thunder we had the night before & were unable to get us onto another flight that would get us to the boat in time! We thought we had a plan to fly into Key West the following morning & hop onto the boat but apparently it is a law that you cant board & disembark a cruise in different US ports unless it is a repositioning cruise. We could have met the ship in Grand Cayman-that far into the trip-no thanks!
Off to Disney we went for the week. We had a wonderful time laced with utter depression when we saw DCL buses constantly. We missed meeting all of you at the 3pm meet & the FEs-yes I have tons of stuff with other children's names on them now & an FE holder (thankfully we didnt have a date put on it). And entire bag full of clothes we didnt wear since we lived in shorts & Ts. Ahh! Such is life! Now off to plan my attack on Delta!!
Rachel-Why were the FEs a disappointment?
Please tell me all the good stuff so we can live vicariously through you all.

The meet went well and was over in a flash. It was nice to put faces with names & screen names. The rest of the cruise went just as well, good weather, tons of activities. There was a bit of drama. We had to go off course back toward Key West Thursday night so the Coast Guard could evacuate a passenger who got sick. This put us at Castaway Cay a few hours behind schedule so they extended our stay there until 6.

OMG! That's horrible you missed it! Although, I will say, that even though the cruise was pretty cool, I would pick WDW over another cruise any day. It's nice to visit multiple islands, but you don't really have time to enjoy them.
My 2 yr old loved all the character interaction. On Thursday, he spend like 15 min w/Chip & Dale. At the end, they each held his hands & walked down the hall together. It was so sweet! We had some issues w/him at dinner almost every night. I apologize to the woman sitting at table 49 who was hit by DS's crayon on the 1st night.
We LOVED Grand Cayman & would like to go back there sometime.
We may take an Alaskan cruise in a few yrs, but otherwise we will stick to WDW.

Sorry we missed the meet. We didn't get onto the boat until 3:30. I probably spoke to some of you and don't even know it. Everyone was so nice on the cruise. My girls took some Dramamine the first day. Then they got used to the boat. The shows were my favorite part of each day. I loved the food and really miss having them prepare it for me!! My kids want to go on another cruise ASAP.
The kids didn't want to do the kid clubs. So, we didn't do much adults only stuff. We did get to Palo for brunch. That was such a great experience. I highly recommend it.
The kids thank everyone for the thoughtful FE's. They loved having surprises waiting for them. Now it's back to reality.....

Welcome back everyone!!! It was so nice meeting you all and I have to say my kids loved meeting and playing w/ those they emailed( and everyone else of course) with and just LOVED the FE exchange!!! They were so excited to see the gifts every time!!!--uh oh what happened LOVE TO SHOP?
And no- no one contacted me Jonoba!!!-- and my dry erase did not stick on my door no matter how many magnets I had to stick on it!!-- can I send the gifts to you?--
Hope the shovels came came in handy at CC for you all?!-- hope you all enjoyed all the other stuff--tried to make each age appropriate .... Thanks to everyone for your gifts- they were all appreciated!!!
Overall loved the trip- tried to book again but they were too busy!!!- it's gonna be for 2013- so they said they would call this week an honor the request and discount---- agree with not having enough time to see the islands-plus my kids really did not care about the other islands... Wanted to stay and play on the boat but Loved CC--- ( spoke to a few of you abt it on the ship)--- so we are going to book a 5 day I think w/ the days at sea and 2 at CC....our first cruise so there was a lot to learn!!!- agree w/ Nemo... Best parts were the special moments when we would run into characters in the hallways, etc- they took the time and talked w/ the kids--- and seeing my Finnley just skipping around the halls just happy, happy, happy to be there!!!
Hey - we lucked out w/ weather though!!! Couldn't have been better!!
Sad it's over... But hope to book that next one!!!--- now I have to get to all that laundry!!!!

We finally got home early this morning around 1:30 am...ugghh! We left the cruise and spent one day at Magic Kingdom on Saturday. It was really crowded, but we had a blast. One last surprise for the kids, and it seemed a shame to be that close and not drop by! We began the drive home later than we wanted on Sunday (stopped by DTD and had lunch,) and we ran into several hazards on the drive home. Wildfires in Florida, 2.5 hour traffic jam in SC, deer on both sides of the interstate....we were just thankful to get home in one piece!
We had a great time on the cruise and will definitely go on one again. I am in agreement w/ the 2 stops at Castaway Cay. Kids loved visiting the other ports, but I did hear on several occasions that they wanted to go back to go to the pool/club. We loved the beach at CC, and were among the stragglers reboarding in order to get as much time as possible.
Thanks everyone for the FE gifts! The kids really loved them and were so excited to see something waiting for them! Denisees...I forgot the shovels when I was getting everything together for CC, and I certainly heard about it!!! We will definitely use them this summer though! We didn't seem to have any problems with anyone taking anything from our door or FE, but we were deck 5 forward on a hall that most would not go down unless your room was on it. Sorry to hear about your disappointment Loves 2...we delivered ours to you.
We also loved meeting you guys, and felt very fortunate to run into a few of you several times! My kids really felt a connection to all of your kids that we met, and are still talking about their cruise buddies!
The kids said on several occasions that this was the best vacation ever, and I had so many special moments. Their excitement w/ Captain Mickey saving the day at the pirate party/fireworks, the numerous character random character interactions, nice dinner, spa, and brunch w/ DH, and several gorgeous sunsets! Definitely hated to have it end!

We had a great time on the cruise, and will definitely do it again. I have to say that I agree with love 2 shop...we were disappointed with the FE too. My DGD was so excited to deliver her gifts...we did it on day 1 and 2. I think she got maybe 5 gifts total herself. She was so disappointed returning to the room and the empty pockets all the time.
Some news I heard on the cruise, from the captain himself, was that the Magic will be sailing out of New York in summer 2012. No itineraries yet, but thought that all the New Yorkers and New Englanders here would like that into.

We were told that too by a friend who works on the ship. It will be very strange for me having the Magic sailing out of New York!
We had a great time on the cruise. This was our fifth Disney cruise, and our last one was the 15 day Panama Canal cruise, which was very exciting, so we worried that we might be a little bored or jaded this time around. Ha! Everyone had a wonderful time and no one was ready to come home.
The absolute highlight of our trip was swimming with manatees in Cozumel. The four of us had an hour alone with three manatees, just swimming around with them, feeding them, playing with them and being overwhelmed by how loving and sweet they are. We had the whole area to ourselves for the whole time. There were also stingrays, nurse sharks and fish in the water but it was hard to pay attention to anything but the manatees. Both kids said it was the visit of a lifetime. I definitely recommend it. (This was the stand-alone swim with manatees and not part of a tour that included dolphins... the dolphin tour has a manatee "presentation" which still looked very cool but didn't allow swimming around with them.)
It was also great meeting everyone at the Promenade Lounge on Saturday. My son really enjoyed the time he spent onboard with another DISboard son that he corresponded with before the cruise. :)

The fish extenders are always a tough one. Last year we made pirate ship magnets with the logo of the cruise, this year we put pictures of the Magic on coffee cups and filled them with stickers, candy and Disney recipes. I was in your group Rachel but we still received your ornament, very nice. Normally you only pass out a gift to each room, not each child in our case we passed out multiple gifts per room but only received one from those rooms since we only had one child. I think most of the excitment is with receiving a gift, no matter the gift.
I am happy most of you enjoyed the cruise, like Coastingthru this was our 5th cruise and we already booked 2 more. I love the relaxed feeling of the cruise compared to the parks.
Lisa,
Spencer enjoyed Michael's time also. This is the first cruise that he spent the majority of his time in the club, next year he is off to The Vibe and I am dreading that. Hopefully they can keep in touch.

We were in the second "late" FE group and we had a wonderful experience. My kids were thrilled with everything they received from the simple to the elaborate. I think the thrill is just coming back to the room to find a surprise waiting for you. Often my kids (1 & 3 yrs old) were upset that they had to come back to the room and leave the excitement of the rest of the ship, but all I had to mention was that there might be a gift waiting for them in their FE, and they happily skipped back to the room! We seemed to get all of our gifts and didn't appear to have any stolen but our room was 2502 which is at the very front of the ship and had very little traffic so less likely for people to walk by and swipe things.
Did others in the "late" FE group receive their gifts?
My daughter had the best experience with a couple of the DISboard friends she emailed before the trip and then spent a bunch of time with on the cruise. She told me on the way home that she was so sad because she might not ever see her "new best friend" again - so sweet and heartbreaking!
What kind of discount could we have got for booking onboard for another cruise? I find it hard to plan so far ahead - is it worth it?

I called DCL today to see if I could book a cruise & get the onboard discount, but was told no. She said I had to have filled out a form on the ship to get the discount. We don't plan on taking another cruise til like 2014 though anyway.
We had one issue on the ship that was very unsettling. When we got back to our room after visiting Key West, there was a maintenance sign on our door & the door was open. DH went in to ask if it was okay for us to come in, but no one was in the room! No one came back to the room either. When we left for dinner, we told our stateroom host about finding our door open & he said he will tell maintenance. After that, we received 2 calls, 1 from guest services & 1 from head of maintenance, apologizing for our door being left open & asked if anything was missing. Nothing was, luckily we kept passports & valuables in the safe. They asked if there was anything they can do for us & we said no. We never found out why maintenance was in our room & how long our door was open for.
Then a couple days later, a woman wearing one of those white uniforms opened our door & started to walk in. She was shocked to see us, then apologized, & walked out. She called me later in the day apologizing for entering our room. She said a guest told her they couldn't get into their room & asked if she could let them in. They gave her our room # & she opened our door to let them in. All we could think was what if we weren't in the room? Was that guest trying to deliberately get into our room or was it a genuine mistake of giving the wrong #?
We felt like we had no security or privacy in our room. Not a good feeling at all.

Nemofan i would have been devestated, we have never had anything like that happen nor have I read about that on the boars\ds. you think they would have cross check the room with a name before opening the door or called the room host who would have known what family belonged in that room.

I meant to also post about the onboard discount. We always rebook while on the ship, you can always use a dummy date and just move the reservation before the final payment is due, you do not get the same rate but you keep your discount and onboard credits. For a 7 night cruise on the Fantasy you received a 10% discount off the cruise fare (not including port charges), a $200.00 onboard credit for that cruise and only a 10% deposit instead of the 20% one that is required now.

What a great trip. We were in the second FE list and just wanted to thank everyone soooooo much. My kids would run down the hall to see if there was something in their pockets. I felt kind of bad because my gifts were not nearly as good as what others gave, but being our first cruise I really did not know what to expect or what to give. One morning we got up and the FE was gone, I was so mad since I spent 2 hours making the thing. Luckily I just started walking down the hall and found it placed on someone else's door about 20 rooms down. This was one of the best vacations we have ever taken. Loved CC and was sad not to have more time there. Even though we could stay till 6:00 they were closing everything down and folding up umbrellas and chairs at 5:00, so we felt like we had to leave.
We booked for the June 30th Fantasy Eastern trip and can't wait. I do have to say that waiting to book another trip on board was a big pain in the butt! Everytime we would go up there, the line would be long. I tried to wait once, but one woman sat there for 45 minutes booking her next cruise. The sales guy was not really good either. He looked like he did not want to be there. Also, I did not like having to tip the restaurant host. All he did was come over to our table each night, say hello, and then leave, and Disney recommends tipping for that. Overall I have no complaints about the cruise. The food was good (Our servers could have been better), the weather was great, and my kids had a blast! Can't wait until the next one!:yay:

I'm glad you had a great time Lisae, we also can't wait for our next cruise!
Loved CC and was sad not to have more time there. Even though we could stay till 6:00 they were closing everything down and folding up umbrellas and chairs at 5:00, so we felt like we had to leave.
I hated to see them closing things down too, it seemed more noticeable this time but that was probably due to the 2 hour delay in our departure. There is not much lighting on the island, so they have to have everything cleaned up before it gets dark. Also, most of the staff on the island are crew members from the ship and they have to be done and back on board by 6:00 as well. And to top things off, they had new guests arriving from the Dream at 8:30 a.m. the next morning... I imagine having the island pristine and ready to go by the next morning is already pretty hard to do without a 2-hour delay.
We actually left CC a little early (for the first time ever, they usually have to kick us off the island at the last possible minute! :teeth:) because we had the early show time (6:15) and didn't want to miss the farewell show.
I do have to say that waiting to book another trip on board was a big pain in the butt!
Agreed! We actually didn't get to book on-board because we could never get the guy's time. I never remember seeing the salesperson so busy on previous cruises... I think there must be much greater interest right now due to booking trips on the Dream and the Fantasy.
Also, I did not like having to tip the restaurant host. All he did was come over to our table each night, say hello, and then leave, and Disney recommends tipping for that.
I have to echo our disappointment with this too. I think my family has been really spoiled in the past. We had the same restaurant host for the last three cruises in a row (over a span of 5 years) prior to this one, his name was Simon and he was amazing. He would go around to every table at the start of the night, do a few tricks, get the kids to laugh, and would leave the table with a riddle or puzzle to solve. He would check in over the course of the night to see how we were doing with it and give hints if needed, and again at the end of the night to see who solved it. Our family really enjoyed working on them together as a team, and Simon made us feel so proud when we got it right! He would also draw on the tablecloths, tell jokes, dance around the dining room, and was generally larger than life and a much-loved part of our trips. We were really sad on our last cruise when he announced that after 12 years, it was his last cruise.
Our host this year was very pleasant when we spoke to him but we hardly saw him. He maybe said hello three times and never asked us how our dining experience was going. I suppose he might have provided excellent problem resolution if we'd had any complaints, but we didn't. At the end of the trip we asked our kids (13 and 17) if they could tell us who the restaurant host was and they couldn't. So it was a rather different experience than we were used to. We don't take our previous experience for granted, we know we were lucky, but we still do miss that extra bit of magic.
Ok, looking back over the length of this message, I can tell that I really miss the cruise and just want to keep talking about it! :goodvibes Even though I was agreeing about a couple disappointing parts of the cruise, overall we still had a magical time!
Oh before I go, since I was talking about it being dark and Castaway Cay, I want to share these beautiful photos (http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2011/01/star-show-at-castaway-cay/?CMP=SOC-DPFY11Q2Twitter1.7.1107-01-10@0003). They were taken last month by a Disney photographer, pictures of the stars at night from the beach on CC.

Travis.....I was at the meet. Felt I should leave quickly since all the women were hovering around me and it was soooooooo distracting.
I have a pretty good photo of the kids from the meet which I will post (eventually)
our server was Guiseppe and the asst was Raquel. Guiseppe was VERY nice but never seemed to get "special request" veggies for DGD (ZuZu) which others have posted was very common (the special requests) and he didn't do any stupid towel tricks or anything.....he was VERY NICE but sort of distracted. a fine waiter for a standard restaurant......
Raquel was very new (2 weeks) but SCATTERED!!!!! She was out "sick" 2 days with either a cold or a bad back depending on which story Guiseppe remembered to tell us. On Tues Guiseppe (and all the others) ask what else they can do to be "excellent" (a subtle start of the excellent rating pressure).......I ak=sked if we couldn't have the coffee, milk and sweetners come out AT THE SAME TIME so I could have them with dessert while coffe was still hot/warm. THIS NEVER HAPPENED! I know they were at capacity (2700 people by CM info) but Guiseppe only has 2 tables on any given cruise. Total amount of people shouldn't impact his performance.
Our Head Waiter (Wayne) was VERY NICE and joked with us each night. He was very attentive.
We were among the last 3 or 4 tables out of the Dining Rooms each night. SOMEBODY else had to have dessert besides us.
OTHERWISE, the cruise was GREAT and little ZuZu did not want to leave. THAT is what makes it worth doing.
when we asked her what her favorite part was she immediately said, "I know! ALL of it!!!!!"
Can't fathom why people complain about the crowded chairs...they were always available when I was there....CAN see why they complain pools are too small. Whoever heard of a standing room only pool? CAN'T understand why people complain about CC being crowded. It was a lot better than our LI beaches in the summer. Maybe people believe the commercials where a happy couple stroll hand-in-hand all by themselves
along the shore........
Here is a teaser for all of you to consider before I post a video on You Tube........:Did anyone else have magnetic cutlery on the Magic?
As for the FE's: SOME were sooooooo small (the pockets) that it was like ADVERTISING that there were toys hanging out in front of your door ready to be taken......We LOVED all the thoughtful gifts and it seems we werwe the only ones who didn't gift wrap their booty. Did everyone find the pennies in the bottom of the pockets or are they all packed away with the FE?:lmao:
Next Trip: WDW! Cruise again? Not soon but maybe when our new DGD or DGS (due in 3 weeks) gets older...:love:
I'll let you guys know if/when I post photos to FLICKR

Bill,
It is good to know that you made the meet. It was hard to meet everyone since all of the converstaions I had were very interesting and muster was right around the corner. Sounds like you had the late seating, we had Wayne also. Our server and assistant were far under par compared to our last cruises. We must have walked out with you as it seemed like we were the last table to leave each night. For the Animator's show night we actually had dinner in Topsiders, the service was not any better though. I believe the Dream took all of the better ones. We did have a great server in Palo though the 3 times we were there, his name was Alvin.
We did get your penny, thank you.
As Lisa said for all that was wrong so many things were right that we booked 2 more cruises. It is only from past experience that we visted the cruise desk well before the end of the cruise to rebook.

We had a WONDERFUL time on our 2nd Cruise. My kids too were excited each day to see what they got in the FE (List #2). I also started to feel bad that I didn't give enough as well. I spent 3 days cutting out my magnets. I had put in a request for my server and to our surprise Putu was our server again. His assistant Tomislav was great as well. He gave extra attention to my mother who was on here first cruise ever. She loved ever minute of it. We thought about booking another cruise but decided it wouldn't be for a few more years and didn't want to sit and wait that long. I bought a very nice piece at the 2nd Art Auction. Overall, my wife and I felt that the overall experience was just as good as our 1st cruise. Just wondering if anyone had anymore details/update on the emergency stop?

Now that I have adjusted to real life again, I wanted to say thank you for all of the FE gifts that my kids (Jacob and Elise) received. Since this was our first cruise we had no idea what to expect and they were simply excited to find something in the FE when we returned to the room.
We enjoyed ourselves and met several wonderful families. We ended out switching to an early dinner seating after the first night's dinner and that worked out much better for us. Our head waiter Wira kindly took care of this switch for us immediately after dinner the first night. He also came by to check on us repeatedly during the cruise and even informed us of the next day's dining information one night because our regular server was busy. I felt that he had definitely earned his tip because switching to the early seating probably saved our cruise.
Oh, but I have one question..:confused3.. we were unable to deliver gifts to Luke and Owen which I felt really badly about. We did several trips up and down the hallway looking for the room and eventually asked a CM and we were told room 7545 did not exist.?????So I asked Love2Shop which door the changes were supposed to be posted on and I check but did not see anything. Where were Luke and Owen???We still have your gifts!:confused3

as far as emergency stop:
CM said that it was a back injury from a tumble down stairs....while it didn't seem to be serious, I'm sure they (and the insurance providers) like to err on the side of caution...........
Magnetic flatware anyone?

I was told by a CM that it was a reaction to the food earlier that night. I also heard it was a lady that broke her arm and that it was a very young boy. Not sure if we will ever know which it was.

Sorry we missed the meet, the boys were in the pool and we couldn't get them out. I did have the pleasure of meeting Bill and now that I saw the pictures from Love2Shop, we crossed paths several times, wish we knew it was you. My son loved your DH's Patriots Tattoo. The boys loved the FEs, thanks to all.
Bill, we had the same wait crew and felt they got better as the week went on, but Wayne avoided us all week. After receiving our drinks after we finished dinner on night one he sat at our table and asked how things were besides the problem with the drinks. When the other guy at my table said he thought the steak was fatty Wayne got up and walked away. The only times he came to our table is when the kids called him over, he never even came by on the last night for his tip. We did chase him down on Saturday morning, don't know why I bothered.
As for the medical emergency we were part of the group gawking from Deck 4 as they loaded the person onto the Coast Guard boat. I thought it was a woman. It was pretty amazing, it appeared like a section of the Magic's hull came down and created a dock then a 2 story staircase was set up.
As for the cruise, we loved the shows, pools were too small and hated being on a schedule. We belong to DVC so we'll probably do it again but I did the math and Beaches Turks and Caicos cost us about half and is amazing, so we may head there in 2012.

We were told that the medical emergency was a young woman, that the person was already "much better" the next day and that the stop had likely saved her life. So I thought it must have been something like an anaphylactic reaction. I'm surprised there are so many different stories out there.

We went to Beaches T & C last summer & had a blast! It is so fun & both my boys loved it. The beach, pools, waterpark, tons of restaurants, Sesame Street characters...
The beach was beautiful & the sand was amazing! SO soft! Maybe that's why I didn't like the sand at Castaway Cay as much w/all those shells. We went to Beaches right after DS was out of school (early June) & the resort was only half full. Plus, we got 55% off as well!

They loaded the Coast Guard boat from directly under my verandah. I could tell it was a young girl, strapped to the gurney, with one arm sticking out. I could see a ponytail or long hair at least. I didn't see if they let someone go with her or not...I hope they did.

We had a blast on our 1st Disney cruise! Finally unpacked and steady on my feet again. I can't believe it has already been a week since we've gotten back home.
We were in FE #2, we got fabulous gifts. My girls were so excited to get back to the room each day and see what they got. I don't think any of ours were taken. They loved distributing the gifts as well.
Rachael, we hope Madison got the gifts from Margaret, even though you weren't in our FE list, she wanted to leave something for Madison. Sorry it was a disappointment.
Thanks again Linda for all of your information. My girls enjoyed the Tea Party with Alice and getting their pictures taken with her and the Mad Hatter at the end.
One night my 9 year old got stuck on the elevator, the operator came on the intercom several times to soothe her and the others. The next day they sent both my girls a free Stitch stuffed animal with a note of apology!! We thought that was incredibly nice.
We had Slobadan and Survaci as servers for dinner (I know the spelling is incorrect). They did an excellent job. They were sweet to the kids too.
We loved CC- we did the bicycle ride around the island.
Our kids did not want to go to Oceaneers Club much at all, so we spent most of our time with them. We encouraged them to go, but they just wanted to hang with us.
We are grateful we had early dinner, as our 5 year old was wiped out each night. One night she fell asleep at 6pm, during dinner, and slept all night.
The girls didn't want to leave the ship, and want to go to WDW for our vacation in September! Looks like we'll be there.
It was great meeting everyone at the meet on Saturday.

No, she didn't have that one, and loves it! She also loved the silly bands.
I wish we had been on the same dining schedule, I think the girls would have had fun together. I just couldn't get her to venture out much.
Have fun at Christmas, that sounds like so much fun. We like to go in September and catch the Not So Scary Halloween party, we've done that 2 times now... the girls are already excited to think about it, my husband says he is Disneyed out, so I am working on him...

I was also on this cruise and found it interesting reading everyones comments regarding our cruise. We all had a great time, but comparing it to last year, it was not as 'magical' in some respects. Don't get me wrong, I would do it again in a minute, but was a little disappointed with the shows and some other stuff compared to last year. It was fine having the Argentinian dancers the first night...but the whole show the 2nd night? My kids were bored to tears after 10 minutes of the same stuff. Also, they repeated 3 shows exactly, and last year..they never showed a movie (that should have been for the theater for those who wanted to see it). Also, our server, Jimson was nothing like the gentleman we had last year (whom we told went to the Dream)...he was nice, but always seemed rushed (and no magic tricks this yr) --- he only had 3 tables. Our asst server, Annabel was very sweet. Head waiter did nothing. Our Palo waiter, Sasha was fantastic. I do believe they did pull many of the very experienced and "top" crew over to the Dream. The highlight of the trip was the dolphin encounter in Cozumel...I would highly recommend that to everyone. The other highlight was our family was invited along with only 4 other families on the ship to a special meet and greet with the entire cast from the show and every character, in Studio Sea. One of the character handlers took a liking to my son. It was truly amazing. The kids loved Castaway Cay and the new water slide (but hated the long lines). Yes, I agree the pools (and hottubs) were way too crowded. I'm very sad to be home and back in this cold weather. My kids and I were just saying how the next group that came after us are preparing to go home now. They are begging me to book the Fantasy next year!

Hi Missyone,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the cruise. It seems as if most of the repeat cruisers had the same opinion... that it just wasn't as magical as previous cruises but it was still wonderful and they would happily go again. I believe that DCL is just going through a slightly rocky growth period as they adjust to manning and operating the new ship(s) and I don't mind bearing with them if it ultimately helps them get back to where they were.
Regarding the shows, they do keep the main shows in use for a long time anyway. I have been cruising on the Magic for over 7 years and and they have been performing almost all of the same shows for the whole time. We did get one new show this year (Villains Tonight) since they replaced The Golden Mickeys with it last March. I didn't really mind so much this time around as it gave me some free time to hit the spa and take a breather between a day in port and dinnertime.
As far as showing a movie in the Walt Disney Theater, I think that depends on the timing of your cruise. If Disney has very recently released a major feature, they show it in the Walt Disney Theater as a big event. Gnomeo & Juliet came out one week before our cruise, so we knew well in advance that they would be showing it in the big theater during our cruise. On our previous cruises, they showed The Incredibles, Chicken Little, and Wall*E. If it's the actual opening week of the movie, they make a big deal out of it and give away posters and pins and other memorabilia. I was wishing that Pirates of the Caribbean 4 had come out during our cruise! I would *love* going to see that as an event on the ship on Pirate night! pirate:
It is really, really cool that your family got to meet the cast and characters in Studio Sea!
We are finally getting used to being back in the cold weather, but as my tan is fading I find myself secretly plotting and planning the next getaway! :cool2:

OK Bill...no magnetic flatware on our part...care to fill us in? I'll be the first to bite...:headache: (sorry for the pun)
As far as our servers go, they were just OK. Our server spoke very quietly and very quickly. He was always in a rush until it came time for him to explain to us the need for an excellent rating, that they would receive perks when comment card was filled out, etc, etc. They mixed up our food EVERY night!! The assistant server was nice, but almost had my daughter in tears one night when she told her that they were no longer friends b/c Katie did not want to share her stuffed animal. I know she was just kidding, but a 5 year old does not always understand things like that. She kept going on about it for about 10 minutes, until Katie was about to cry. I had to tell her that she might be going a bit too far w/ her about it. :sad2: Silly I know, but not what you expect w/ servers who work w/ kids all of the time. I thought that maybe I had just set my expectations too high, but it seems like others felt service was a bit lacking too.
Met a great CM in Shutters, Jeff, who really made the kids feel special every time he saw them. We met several CMs who really did go out of their way to do something kind.
All in all, we had a fantastic time, and will definitely go again. Kids talk about it every day.
We decided not to go to the first 2 nights shows, and I think it worked out better for us. Had time to explore the ship.
Nemofans...I would have been really upset if we found the door open, and had our privacy invaded the way that yours was. Glad nothing was missing. BTW, Katie was asking about your little guy today, and told me to send a hello your way.
Denisees...we have a few cute pictures of the kids playing in the pool together. I'll send them your way in a few days.
One of my favorite things about this trip was seeing how my son reacted to a lot of the experiences. He is 7 and is still wanting to believe in all of the magic, but will question it. Not on this trip!!! He was not trying to be a "big" kid. His reactions to Mickey were priceless, and the way he danced without caring who was watching was just awesome. I know that this time will probably come to an end soon, so I treasured every minute of it!
Hope you are all staying warm, and just want to say once again how much we enjoyed meeting you all. I may post some pics in a few days...

Oh poor Katie!:( My DS liked meeting her & I wish they had more opportunity to play.
Our servers were very good, but super busy. The server has been doing this for a long time & our asst server was new. They were nice guys & did try to make our trip special w/making origami, drawing pics on the table cloth. The problem was they had a big table that demanded their attention constantly & then would complain to the head server about them. The whole group at that table would never come in together. So when others would join, they wanted the servers to catch them up to where everyone else was in the meal by rushing thru. Then they kept changing their minds on their drink & food orders after they paced orders. Our servers were running around w/all night. On formal night, that table didn't show up & it was the best night! Our servers gave us so much attention & they kept apologizing for not giving us an exceptional experience. The annoying thing is b/c of the complaining that big table did, other head servers at lunch & breakfast would come & ask us about our servers & if we had issues. We could see them during dinner talking to our asst server each night & after a few days his mood was different. DH thought they might have put him on probation or something. It was sad b/c they both were so great. I was constantly standing up for them saying we really liked them. On the final night, I told our head server that I would ask for this team again. One rude table shouldn't be able to ruin someone's career.

We are a little late in posting but after we returned I had to travel for business and it took this long to get everything unpacked and ourselves settled in to the real world again. In terms of the FE the kids loved it - they were thrilled to come back each day and find anothe present and loved the stuff they got. We too tried to find Luke and Owen - in fact my wife and I walked the whole ship after we realized the room number did not exist. I am sure it was way more frustrating for them and my heart goes out to them.
In terms of the cruise my comments would be that it was wonderful and we had a great time but it was not so much more spectacular than the other ones we have done, which included Carnival and RCI. Cruises as a whole work really well but this was quite similar to the others. For the same price we got a 9 night out of NYC on RCI with 2 connecting rooms, where this was 1 room and 7 nights. It was not so much better to justify the money though we would do it again, under the right circumstances. The Disney "atmosphere" is worth it to some extent but other cruise work for us too.
Thanks and best wishes to everyone. To those who organized the FE, a huge thanks. It was a real highlight for our kids.

Linda,
As I stated we were gawking for quite a while, they did let someone go with her, he got on the boat with luggage about 5 minutes before they transferred her onto the boat.
