Hi everyone, its me again.
We are just trying to organise what to bring with us. As this is our first Disney Cruise, we were wondering what to bring. Is there formal nights like on the other cruises? And would love to know when the pirates night is as we all have our pirates costumes on the ready pirate:
Just can not wait anymore!! Only 16 days till we fly State side :woohoo:

Check the cruise line web-site they have list of suggested items.
Is there formal nights like on the other cruises?
Yes a formal and a semi-formal night
And would love to know when the pirates night is as we all have our pirates costumes on the ready pirate:
I have seen references to pirate night being on either of two nights depending on the weather forcast: either Tuesday or Wednesday night

Formal night is the first at sea day--Monday. Pirate night is usually Cozumel day--Wednesday. There is also a semi-formal night, which I believe is Thursday.
Enjoy!

This is either an amazing list or total overkill. Since this is our first cruise I don't know. It is very detailed and has lots of things we wouldn't have brought without it

I use an even larger packing list, possibly from another cruise website. It was called ultimate packing list. Basically I use these overkill lists because I won't forget anything but I cross out any items that don't apply to this trip.
Binoculars - definitely took to Alaska, likely won't bother for this one
Duct Tape - don't travel without it
My favorite "cruise" items to pack include an over-the-door shoe hanger pocket style, pop-up dirty clothes hamper, for family a hanging shoe organizer shelf style, insulated mug for portable beverages.
Shoe pockets store all those little things that would otherwise litter the limited counter space: sun lotion, glasses, accessories... The hanging shoe shelves organize the family's shoes so they don't litter the floor, but this only works if you have more shoes than other items that need to hang in the closet. The pop-up hamper stores dirty clothes neatly. We fold out dirty clothes on trips so we can take the support out of the hamper and just pack it full of the dirty clothes for the trip home. Saves having to fold/pack dirty clothes at end of trip and no need to re-sort laundry when home.
These lists are personal choice. I don't wear make-up very often so I can delete the makeup and remover stuff from my list. Some need more clothes or shoes than others. YMMV

Whew, finally made it through all the posts. Here is my summary: I and a few others missed the FE and magnet deadlines. The DIS meet is day one (Port Canaveral, right?) at 2:30 Promenade Lounge. I don't think we have official shirts, lanyards or anything. Per other threads/posts/tradition, lime green is the DIS color so I, personally, might try to wear a lime green something somewhere on my person for the meet.
It seems there is an early crew some of whom aren't posting as much in the last few pages (they are probably organized and ready ;)) and a late-to-the-party crew who are posting more now and only just started like us. :rolleyes1
I hope to meet you all at the DIS meet on day one - sdjen, please confirm - especially those of us with children who will be together in the clubs. (Our DS is 12 and DD 10.) Oct. W.ern Navigators from previous page link state 2:30-3:15 is Walking Ship Tour. Anyone other than us want the Walking Ship Tour and would have a conflict with DIS meet? If DIS meet stays at 2:30, I'll split my party some to meet and some to tour.
Can't wait! :cheer2:

HI, glad you made it through all of the posts. I think some of the early posters may have switched to another sail date and that may be why we haven't heard from them?
I don't think there is any plan to change the meet time that wouldn't conflict with something else going on as there is always something going on. There may be another chance for a walking tour of the ship another time during the week. Thanks for the suggestion of wearing something distinctive. If you wear something green we'll all come and find you!

I haven't been posting much... you'd think now that both my kids are in school all day that I would have MORE time. That is sooo not the case.
Anyway, here are our plans (we are 2nd time Dis cruisers):
Key West - maybe an electric car, we are not sure. This is our least planned stop.
Cozumel - Nachi Cocum
Caymen - Captain Marvin's Stingray Adventure
I am busy making magnets and buying odds and ends (photo mat for characters to sign, little things for the FE, flip flops for the kids, etc)
Every morning my DD (10 ) and DS (6) wake up by giving me the countdown to cruise day! They are so excited to do this again.

Welcome to the new families - glad to have more people join!! Can't wait to meet everyone! Looks like we have a good group with lots of kids - i am sure the kids will enjoy having a friendly face in the clubs if they meet at the DIS meet first :thumbsup2 Hope everyone can join us for that = Promenade lounge at 2:30 PM before sailaway!!
We didnt do group tshirts or lanyards - sounds fun though. Maybe next time. We do have a magnet exchange and FE exchange planned for a few people but those are already closed - sorry!
I am getting more and more excited - we are flying out two weeks from today!! I ordered some tie dyed Mickey head tshirts for Amanda and I to wear on sailaway day though. Should make it easy to find us! If I can figure out how to post a pic I will do that.
I think I am going to start pre packing this weekend. Need to make a plan of what clothes to take. I am really hoping to only check two bags and keep them under the weight limit since we are flying. Hopefully my FE stuff doesnt weight too much! I have also been reading some recent trip reports and the pics show it is kind of cool some days. I am going to pack jeans and jackets and hope we dont need them ;) We are coming from South Dakota so anything over freezing will feel warm to us!
Cant wait to chat more over the next 2 weeks!

We live in Sioux Falls and are flying to FL on the Fri before the cruise.
I am a little disappointed that the stores here have not yet started carrying spring/summer items. I have a few things I want to buy but not having any luck finding them. As cold as it's been here, people probably think I'm crazy when I ask them where the shorts and sandals are. I am looking forward to a week without asking what the windchill factor is!

I'm in Buffalo, NY, and it is a near tundra like here ... ditto the windchill! I was at Target yesterday and they are starting to put summer stuff out. Found sandals for my two year old the other day. Kohl's has summer things as well. I'm stuck because all the summer things I stocked up on last summer (I love to shop end of season for the next year), my five year old doesn't fit into. He got taller but skinnier and things are hanging on him :confused3. So much to my husband's chagrin, I have to buy MORE stuff!!

Hi Everyone,
I got so wrapped up on the main boards, was sort of forgetting to check in here. We are still on this cruise (my wife Karen, son Andre (12) and my friend Gord). We know we are in 2136 down on deck 2. We are traveling with another family (Angie, and her two boys Jamie (12) and Sammy (10), all from the GTA area (Oakville and Burlington to be exact).
We may be able to stop by for that DIS meet in the Promenade lounge, unless something weird comes up. Had to pass on the FE stuff, as I have had my hands full coordinating so much between the two families(we are traveling together on the way down and back by car).
Chatted briefly with Paceyswife about Nachi Cocom day in Cozumel (Paceyswife, did your confirmation come through??) We are not sure of our arrival there, maybe before Angie and her kids get there, since they want to stop at some ruins beforehand.
Saying hi to SJden, and CanadianDisneyDad (from Calgary right?)
Yes just two weeks to go.
I had not posted this on the regular boards section, but as a unique outing on Grand cayman, I am taking my son to skateboard at the Black Pearl Skatepark which is about a 20 minute ride from the tender area I have been told. Andre is pretty nuts about skateboarding and does it competitively for the last 4 to 5 years. Not sure if anyone else's son likes skateboarding. This huge skatepark is one of the best in all of North America, so he is excited.
I have sort been "nursing" the Angie and her kids about the DCL ways and we are travelling down together. But rest assured, there will be two good natured 12 year old boys for the others to get together with in Ocean Quest (now called Edge I believe).
That sort of wraps it up I guess for us.

Hello fellow cruisers! I have been one of those people who hovered over this board since booking in summer. Have learned ALOT about the upcoming cruise and what to do. This is our first DCL cruise and very excited. Have done Norwegian and Carnival in the past but never with kids.
My husband, Mark, and two sons, Luke (5) and Aidan(2) and myself are on deck 6.
Mark and I have been to KW multiple times and absolutely love it there. This will be the first time there with the kids. Will be keeping it low key and weather permitting will be heading to a small hotel beach there at the southern end. Of course, we'd like a picture at the Southernmost point with them to boot! Since our beloved Bills didn't make the Super Bowl, :rotfl2:, I am sure we will be staying off the ship to watch sunset at Mallory Square.
As Luvstocruise previously posted, we too are doing Nachi Cocom in Cozumel. Aidan is not yet fully potty trained and he loves to swim in pools, so I want to make sure he will have that chance at least for one day. Plus we'd like the to be able to spend a quiet day at the beach without the masses. We are looking forward to Castaway Cay as well!
Grand Cayman is up in the air. I hate tendering and am almost tempted to spend the day on the ship - any opinions on that...? Mark will probably roam Grand Cayman on his own if we stay aboard.
Here's hoping the weather holds out for us, the two weeks fly quickly and everyone has a safe trip down!

I am not 100% sure what our excursions are as my wife (she sometimes post as me in here!! :rolleyes1) booked them all, i do believe Stringray in Grand Cayman and ruins in Cozumel.

What ages are your kids? I have a soon to be 5 year old daughter. If you come to the DIS meet on the first day everyone can meet so the kids will have someone their age that they kind of know in the kids club.
Cant wait to be on the cruise! I am really looking forward to some warmer weather. I can relate to the shopping thing. I looked here and in Des MOines when I was there for work. Couldnt find shorts anywhere!!

I am in the Cleveland area and like the rest of you, I am sick and tired of being cold! My husband has to travel to Florida frequently and yesterday he came home with a tan:headache: So not fair - but hopefully we will have nice warm weather for sail-away!
Last year we were cruising at this time (Eastern) and I have to admit, it was a little chilly when we left the port. Jeans and a sweatshirt were definitely needed, but once we got further South it was sunny and warm:cool1:

The Hwy 528 (Beach Line) bridge over the Courtney Parkway between I-95 and PC is down. Tanker fire yesterday under the bridge damaged it so badly that it will take a month to repair. Yes, there are detours set-up but I imagine they will be heavy with traffic on a Saturday morning going to the port with busses. Okay,
Will be checking this thread more as we are literally 2 weeks to the day we sail. :cool1: .
To CanadianDisneyDad:
Yes, you do that with the shorts, nothing wrong to show we can "grin and bear" it. For the GTA area, we are having a bit of a cold snap (-19 deg C overnight) I know, that's warm for you guys out west!!! Anyway - it has got to be warmer where we are all going!!! We are driving down from the Toronto Area on Feb 3rd-stopping in Knoxville TN and then onto Cape Caniveral to stay at the Country Inn & Suites. So we won't see you on a plane. But we will run into each other at the short gathering at Promenade if that is still in the cards.
To Paceyswife:
Yes, Buffalo is cold like where we are. And you guys normally get more snow. One of the reasons we are driving, I did not want to book a flight through Buffalo and get snowed in from a lake effect storm! This way if we have can get "Out of Dodge" so to speak, we can leave Wed evening and drive through the night to get out storms. Hopefully our planned departure time of 3:00AM Feb 3rd will be doable!
To sdjen,ready2cruz, itzol, Garrica, kompers, and others, hi again, and everybody make sure you start packing soon. At least with driving, we can fill the car but even that has its limitations. I didn't realize with all the extra stuff like pirate attire, and the little things like chargers, powerbars, etc. take up room. I may have to do a fitting of the suitcases in the trunk.
I got to get back to the family we are travelling with to make sure they have their car checked out. Got my GPS and backup maps and CAA TripTik ready to go. Been quizzing my son on the differences between screws and bow thrusters and the nautical directions like aft and starboard! If you want to give your kids something to chuck about, tell them that if they announce they need to go to the bathroom, to just say "I'm going to the Head" (toilet on a boat).:lmao:
On the movies onboard, I Tron should definitely be playing in 3D :3dglasses
Tangled will definitely be on and that new one Gnomio and Juliet. TOo bad POTC 4 won't be out yet. The trailer for Tangled looks passable for adults, not sure of the Gnomio and Juliet. I was hoping to see the Scorcerer's Apprentice but I think it has been out too long.
Looking forward to that sailaway drink at the Sailaway party.
Till later,

East on 520 to A1A *Ron Jons will be on the right
Turn north on A1A, follow the signs to the port.
This will take about 30 -45 minutes longer (It depends on the number of lights you hit) than normal.

Just had to drop by to say I am so excited to see the Packers in the Superbowl on our cruise! :cool1: I am a Chiefs fan first but the Packers are my second favorite team. (I lived close to Green Bay until I was 6)
I spent most of today getting my FE stuff ready and doing laundry to get our stuff for the cruise somewhat ready. I have to travel for work this week and next and didnt want to leave it all until the last minute. I am hoping to get everything into 2 checked bags and 2 carryons but will have to see if I can make that or not. I think space wise I can do it -just not sure about the weight limit.

Jerry Kramer graduated from my high school so the number 64 was in every locker room. My cousin was a defensive tackle fo the Steelers for 4 years. I just saw that video yesterday. It has finally started to warm up here so I'll have to wait for another cold snap to try it. I'm hoping the next cold snap hits the day after we leave though.

Packer jerseys and cheeseheads are acceptable attire in the dining rooms on Sunday, right? Who am I kiddding? We probably won't make it to dinner that night! :thumbsup2
Still having trouble finding some summer wear in the stores here. I was in Target the other day and see they have all of the winter clothing on clearance- hope they make the transition to summer clothes over the next week or so! We did get our suitcases out and start packing them up last night. Very exciting to be so close!
Funny you guys mentioned the turning boiling water into snow thing- my husband did that just the other day!
We are travelling as part of a group of 13- all adults (at least claim to be) except for my daughter who is 9. She is the Packers' lucky charm so hopefully there won't be too many distractions on the ship during the game. She's got a job to do! :cheer2:

They demonstrated on the local news the boiling water to snow yesterday along with taking a wet tshirt outside and seeing how quickly it'll freeze. Brrrrrr!!!
Thinking that DH and I are switching to Green Bay as a local boy #44 is on the team. They profiled him on sports yesterday and it was a great story. Go Packers!

Centralontfamily,
Hi From down the way in Oakville! Yes, Monday night was cold, arrghhh! I can't wait until Feb 5th either. I think I am "an accidental Canadian" I prefer milder Winters, but do like the seasons.
Just think of that warm breeze washing over your face in Grand Cayman or Cozumel. Ahhhhhhh!

Hey everyone,
I can't believe the trip is coming up so fast! We're traveling from Ottawa to Syracuse on Tuesday, then fly to Orlando on Wednesday for a couple of days in the World. That's only 5 sleeps away!!! I still haven't made my FE, and haven't bought any gifts - yikes! I don't normally wait this long to get everything together - I would normally have everything bought and packed by now. Oh well, just have to push through it all this weekend, then I can take a break.
Anyway, I just realized that I never received the PM with room numbers. Can someone either re-try it, or send it to my e-mail address (sandi.moser@gmail.com)?
Thanks so much! My sister-in-law called from Grand Cayman and said it's been in the high 80s for the last few days. Of course she called right while we were trying to thaw out a couple of frozen pipes to our washing machine! Thank goodness we'll be there soon, or I would have been cursing her out :)
Anyway, thanks in advance for the room numbers!

I am like the rest of you. Anything over 20 degrees make me happy!
The weather forecast in today's paper just said... COLD. Although I might be able to live with the cold if that darn sun would just come out. Ugh. Gotta love living under the elephant (perpetual gray skies) in Cleveland.:rotfl:
Just finished putting together the FE's so I can check that off of my list. The other family that we are traveling with has never been on a cruise before, so I was skyping with my friend yesterday as she is in a "slight" :eek:panic over the whole "what to pack" issue.
My kids are so excited that they can't hold still while they are talking about the trip. It's all jumping around and squealing while they describe what they are looking forward to the most. They have been dreaming about getting back onboard since we stepped off the ship last January! We leave for Orlando on Friday, so just 6 more sleeps for us!

Thanks for the quick reply with the room numbers! We still have to buy the gifts, but we know what we're getting - we just need to get out there and get them.
The good news is that I finished making our fish extender! It took all of one hour, so that's definitely a relief to have off the list. While I would love to have more time to pretty it up, at least it's done and I can make "pretty-ing it up" the reason for another cruise.
I can't believe that we leave in 3 days, and we'll be on the cruise in one week!

Getting a bit worried here up north...weather reports are calling for another storm with a good amount of snowfall on Tuesday night into Wednesday. A bit concerned as DH is leaving for Florida tomorrow for work. We leave Thursday afternoon and am praying that all is calm by then. I have yet to learn how to use the snowblower (only girl with five brothers and then DH to do the snow removal)!!
Looking forward to Friday in MK and then SATURDAY!!! Here's hoping bad weather doesn't follow!

We are SO excited! Feels like we booked just yesterday... although it was only 3 weeks ago :cool1:
My DD (4) talks about the Mickey Boat every day. We went to Magic Kingdom Saturday for the day and both my kids got their very first haircuts (DD 4 and DS 9 mos). DD was telling everyone who would listen that Mickey wasn't going to be at Magic Kingdom next week, because he was going to be on the cruise with us :rotfl2:
My FE from etsy arrived this week, as well as my embroidered pillowcase for the kids to give the staff to have all the characters sign.

We are hearing lots about the "groundhog day storm of 2011" too! Since we don't leave until Friday morning, I am only slightly worried, but we have definitely discussed the "what ifs". I think we would jump in the car and do our best to get out of Dodge any way we possibly could if flights got canceled...
I have all the clothes and other stuff set out in the bedroom so that I can keep walking by it to make sure I haven't forgotten anything crucial. It will all go into the packing cubes and them the suitcases on Thursday. Yea!:cool1:
I am so ready to see blue skies!

I've been disappointed that the Keys won't be warmer... that just shows how spoiled Floridians can be about our sunshine. No more complaining from me when everyone else is dealing with snow, ice, and cancelled flights.
I was thinking of keeping DD home from preschool tomorrow so she doesn't risk catching another bug... she's been sick more than healthy ever since she started school, and we don't need that on the Mickey Boat!

We're so glad we added a space themed "field trip" onto this cruise so we left before the crazy weather in time to see Stennis and Kennedy space centers. SAFE TRAVELS to all.
Didn't get the lime green decoration onto the visors I was going to force the family to wear. They bought Perry the Platypus T's on sale just before we left so we'll be the family in bright teal - 3 with platypus faces and me in similar color. Hi! I know this is a long shot but it is worth a try! There was a family of about 5-7 people on a Charlie Brown Shuttle with us last night on our return flight from Disney.... I think they accidently grabed one of our bags. They had disney dream inagural hoddies on there was a young boy about 8 or 9 (who got sick when the plane landed) a daughter, their mom, and some other older family memebers. the flight was from 8:20 out of orlando to pittsburgh. I had a disney duffel bag that was the promotional item with our daughters souviners in it.... and it is missing. it made it on to the shuttle with us, and not into our truck. I know this is a super long shot, but i figured it didnt hurt to try, just incase they were DIS members.... please let me know if anyone knows of a pittsburgh family that came home late last night!
