For all you English lubbers: "10 Hot Nights in the Mexican Riviera/April 17, 2011!"

Who else is in?!

TnRobin
09-28-2009, 02:36 PM
I am booked and will be "in" as soon as the school announces next year's school schedule. (expect around Dec)

Our cruise covers parts of two weeks. I can't take DS out of school that long. BUT....I fully expect one of the weeks to be spring break. If so we will be joining for sure. But for now I am being optimistic and saying we are going.

Currently it is (Age at time of cruise)

Me - Robin (29+)
DH - Mike (45)
DS - Matt (16)

BTW - I like your title better than mine. "Adios y Via Con Dios" since DCL will be saying goodbye to Mexican Rivera for the summer

Yo no puedo esperar hasta 17 abril 2011

Hi! I like your title! Is that Goodbye and Go with God? :rotfl2:

I actually didn't think anyone would find me with my stupid title, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. ;)

No puedo esperar tambien!

OK, enough of my very limited high school Spanish .... By the time I got to college and had to take 2 semesters of it, I was in big trouble. Fortunately for me, I had two girls from Puerto Rico living on my floor, and we had a deal: I would proofread all their English papers, and they would translate my English to Spanish for me. I wonder why I always got a note back when I handed in those papers ("please see me. I have questions about your dialect.")?? :lmao:

It is me and my husband. We are Mike (early 40s) and Jodie (late 30s).

Hoping to squeeze in a few days at DL and USH after the cruise.

TnRobin

Yes, it is Goodbye and Go with God. I think it is a common phrase in some regions. Growing up, my sister's best friend was a dual-citizen - dad from Mexico, mom from TN. She spent the first 14 years in Mexico and then came to Tennessee for High School (Stayed at Grandmas). She was bi-lingual and didn't need much help except for marshmallows. We would tease her as she like Rocky Road ice cream because of the mushrooms inside. :) :)

I picked up a few phrases, but don't remember much. That was way too long ago. ( I had to look up the Spanish word for wait on the net).

We are also planning on using our DVC to stay at DL. Maybe before, after or both.

Okay for a second I was confused, but then I think I have it. Alex and Nessa are your cats?

BTW our furbabies are two siamese - Annie and Riku (Kingdom Hearts)

AlexandNessa
09-29-2009, 10:08 AM
:goodvibes We answer to Alex and Nessa. We answer to 'hey you' also. Makes no nevermind to us!

Nessa is no longer with us, but somehow I never thought of that when I picked my screen name. We now have Savannah and Alex.

But yes, they are our 4-legged hours of entertainment. :) All black DSH.

Are your furbabies from the same litter?

BTW, I am surprised there wasn't more interest in this cruise, being over Easter break and an extra few days.

And here I was all worried that we wouldn't get what we wanted on 9/28. Guess all the excitement is in Alaska and the Panama Canal.

Truth be told, I would be on the PC in a heartbeat if it were in March. But we have done this MR itinerary before and loved it. Actually, our last MR cruise in 2005 included Ixtapa/Zihuantinejo (sp) and Acapulco, but it was on Holland America.

Hoping to go horseback riding in Mazatlan again. :)

Wish I had bought into DVC at some point. Now all our discretionary funds go to DCL! I have never been to DL and don't know where to stay.

TnRobin

I am sure we will fill up once it gets closer. I am guessing a lot of people will wait to put down money until it get closer and school schedules are released.

We were hesitant to adopt Annie because she was siamese, but after a little research we decided to give it a try. She is the most loving fur baby on earth. So when our older cat Simba passed on, we contacted Siamese Rescue and adopted Riku. Siamese are not the evil cat Hollywood portrays. They are sweet babies.

As for staying at DL. Staying on site is not as important at DL as it is at WDW. Many hotels are well within walking distance. We have had experience with the Candy Cane Inn (don't let the name fool you) and the Annabelle. Both are great places. I would stay at either in a heart beat. I would probably equate them to Moderates at WDW.

As for DL, we have stayed at the Grand Californian and the Disneyland Hotel. Both are closer to the parks and to thier version of WDW Westside. The Grand Californian actually has its own entrance into Californian Adventure.

If I were paying cash and visiting other parks, I probably would stay at the Candy Cane or the Annabelle. But if you are looking for something closer to the Deluxe WDW hotels, then the DL hotels would be your better option.

Well hello there. We have not booked yet. I don't think hubby even knows that I'm looking. Maybe he will find out comming on here. We have booked the July 12th Alaska, and the 2010 Members. I think he would have a stroke if he even thought that I was looking. My goal is for the Med in 2013. He did say we would't be sailing in 2012, but he didn't say anything about another one in 2011. I think this would be a fun trip for our kids. Any tips on how to talk him into it???

Robin, let's face it: we are both owned by our cats! I can't imagine my life without them.

Thank you re: DL. Last time we cruised the MR, we sailed out of San Diego. I have never flown into or sailed out of LA, so this will definitely be a new experience for us! My TA recommended the Disneyland Hotel. Did you like it?

Hi dejnosluvmickey. I hope you decide to join us! I am very fortunate to have a husband who says, "Just tell me where and when to show up and what to bring." We also skip birthday, Christmas, and anniversary presents in lieu of vacations. Have any big celebrations coming up? Good luck!

Hoping to join officially later today!!

We are actually currently booked (as of yesterday) on the 4/16/11 Western, but then I got to looking at the Disney Cruiseline website, and realized that we can do this cruise with the same category stateroom for less!! Since sea days are pretty much our favorites, we dedided to make the switch!!

I put in an email to DU this morning, but haven't heard anything back yet - hopefully soon!!

It will be me (37), DH (37), DD (8) and DD (6) - our ages at time of sailing.

We are also looking forward to making a quick visit to Disneyland prior to the cruise - never been before!!!

I need to go change my ticker!!

It must be a thing with Mikes. We decide what our travel budget is. the better deals I get, the more we travel. DH tells everyone he just shows up.

Dejnos and my2princessgirls, hope to add you soon.

Hi there! Just paid our deposit for this cruise (Ouch!) Has anyone pointed out to DCL that the deposit was 1/2 of the cruise price??? This cruise is a relative bargain. Cheaper than the Western as someone mentioned (and longer). Just a few dollars cheaper than the 7 night Mexican Riviera cruise and includes 3 additional sea days over that one. So not a bad price for spring break and Easter!

Anyway it'll be me, DH, DS7 and DD4 planning to be on the cruise at the moment. I'm going to try to rebook when onboard in December to see if I can lower the price and increase the OBCs.

Hasta luego!

My Mike feels like he's done his part if he makes the call to arrange for our car service to the airport. :)

I thought this cruise was a relative bargain too, and I will qualify by saying it is a bargain for DCL!

my2princessgirls, did you book yet? :goodvibes

Cathleen, I hear you on the deposits. And like you we also have our deposit in for the WBTA. Ouch for us, good for DCL I guess. The deposits for longer and "special" cruises pack quite the punch. Glad you are joining us for this one (too, see you on the WBTA!).

Big celebrations....none that I can think of. Anniversary is in Feb. Kids birthdays are January, February, May, and September. Mine is July. His is January. I could always break it down into how many shifts that I have to pick up and try for that. Nothing big in April unless April Fools Day counts as something big (don't think he will go for that).

What a good idea!! My 1st grader has been teaching me Spanish, LOL!!

DH came home from work last night with some grand plans for this trip!! He wants to go to San Diego for 2 nights prior to the cruise to visit his Aunt and Uncle (hopefully his parents will come out as well!), then he wants to stay 4 nights after the cruise at Disneyland!! Here I was, just hoping to do one day at DL prior - I'm so excited (although it will be a madhouse being the week after Easter!!)!!

Ok, I think I have hubby convinced. Told him we could do a romantic get away for just the two of us. Cutting out the cost of the kids was about 6K. I just have to come up with the down payment now and book. =) Get paid on Tuesday. Crossing my fingers that Alaska took most of the cruisers for the year, and most are only doing 1 per year.

Hi guys,

Hope to be joining this cruise soon. Currently we are booked on the Magic for an Eastern 5/7/11. But we live in Northern CA, so with the airfare to Florida it is about the same price as this 10 day. We would rather drive the 7 hours with 3 kids then fly the 7+ hours with a time change with 3 kids. It is just the higher deposit that is holding us back right now. My husband choked at the deposit for the 5 of us already, and that was 50% off because I booked onboard a few weeks ago.

If I can convince him, I will be back soon. I have to tread lightly because he thinks I plan too much travel to begin with. However if we act fast, we can get the connecting rooms that I want.

Well we changed our original planned Eastern to this 10 day Riviera. Just made more sense financially. Also super excited to have more days.

At the time of the cruise will be me (Kristi), husband (Kevin), Isabelle turning 8 on cruise, Danny almost 6, and Brennan turns 3 a few days after cruise. It was crucial that we got on a sailing that my youngest would be able to use the club. I was told that as long as he is within 30 days of his 3rd birthday and potty trained he would be able to go in the club.

It will be fun to be on the ship for Easter. I hope they do an egg hunt or something special.

Does anyone know what the weather is like in April on the Mexican Riviera? We just did a Western cruise on the Magic in Oct. and it poured rain on us in every port.

JW, what part of Northern CA do you live in? We are outside of Sacramento.

Hope to get to know all of you over the next 17 months.

Kristi,

Welcome!! We also changed from a 7 night (the 4/16 Western) to this 10 night!! It was less $$$ and more nights!! We are so excited about the extra sea days (though we will miss Castaway Cay)!

My youngest was almost 3 months shy of her 3rd birthday and she was able to go in the club!! She had been potty trained for a long time and was (and still is) very independent, so she had no trouble at all - it was always her older sister who wanted us to come pick her up.

Sorry to lose you on the cruise Robin, but it looks like you will be enjoying the Dream.

JW, I am from San Jose. We moved to Lincoln 6 years ago. We are thrilled to be sailing from the west coast. Driving to L.A with 3 small kids is easier then flying to Florida. We drive to DL a lot, so we have our favorite stops.

I think just being able to drive to the ship is what convinced my husband to do the 10 day. He is a little apprehensive about a cruise that long. My husband and I have cruised together twice before. Once to Alaska for our honeymoon on Princess and we did a New England cruise out of Boston on RCL. He liked cruising but he disliked that we were some of the youngest people on the ship. Those two particular cruises have an older clientele. I sailed on the Magic last month without him. I told him he will love Disney and the families atmosphere. The Disney ships are a whole different experience. Also the kids have a blast and we can have some couple time.

I did the Mexican Riviera in 1989, but I was only 16 then. This should be a whole new experience. I am just hoping the weather is not too bad.

We booked on the 4th and can't wait! It's our 1st Disney cruise. Our DS will be 8 at cruise time. The three of us will be celebrating our birthdays on the cruise. All three birhtdays are within 9 days of each other. My DS's birhtday is the day before DH's. Trying to get my Dsister and DBIL to go too...the price is sooo good and after the deposit was made I don't have much left to pay.

I agree about having a great cruise off Cali coast. Our last one was Oct '08, a 15nt Hawaiian LA to Hawaii back to LA. The best sea days ever!! Not one day of rough sea. :cool1:

We are Disneyland vets (with only one trip to the World) and can't wait to finally get on the Wonder. I could never get the cost across for DH to want to go on one before. Now WOW! It's cheap for Disney! :woohoo:

Yeah!! Another member on our cruise.

Szubieta welcome. My daughter turns 8 on the cruise as well, April 19th. I think it is a perfect cruise with a birthday and Easter to celebrate. Also the kids spring break should be that week before Easter.

We are really saving for the cruise over the next 15 months, but also trying to fit in a trip to Dland. We just got one day free tickets for our family from the Give A Day, Get A Day promo. Maybe we will driving down there after the kids are out of school the first week of June.

I am trying not to get too excited for the cruise since it is over a year away. I still can't help visiting the boards every day and researching the ports.

I am a computer travel junkie...I watch for deals, watch the boards and dream. My DSister and I both are always calling each other with ideas for our next combined family trip. I already talked them into Christmas 2010 in Hawaii. Welcome kjwemett:goodvibes It is exciting to see more people joining our cruise.

Our school calendar is not out for 2010-2011 yet. I am hoping our spring break will be the week before Easter in 2011 like it is every year. I just sent an email to the district to see when the calendar will come out.

I am hoping this next 14 months goes by fast. It is funny it does not seem this particular cruise is that popular yet. I thought it would sell out fast.

We're not that close we're in Fresno , I know... I did check it out at the beginning of Jan and there wasn't much for a family with a 6 yr old. I am going to keep checking back. Trying to get a trip in this spring to DL.

I have been watching all of the MR info on the boards lately too. I think more and more questions and answers will come. I can't wait till a year from now when the actually cruises are in full swing. I know our cruise will be a little different then the 7 days because of the longer itinerary.

We usually do our excursions on our own and not through the ship. I love seeing and reading about the excursions that are available in the ports. We have the extra port of Manzanillo that I have not found info on.

We are going to DL just for one day the beginning of June with the Give A Day, Get A Day promo. That will probably be our only Disney fix until the cruise. I don't think we are going to do the parks when we are there in 2011 since the cruise is so long and I not a big fan of the crowds during Spring Break.

Happy Easter 2010 everyone!

I can't help thinking all day how next Easter we will be on our cruise. I am planning in my head how we will do the day. We will be in Mazatlan on Easter Sunday. Hoping to be able to do an egg hunt in our connecting rooms and then maybe a nice breakfast at Tritons. Wonder if the ship will do anything special for Easter? Maybe I will post that question for the passengers who are cruising today. I actually kinda wish it was a sea day, more relaxed. We will all have to share ideas on what to do in Mazatlan on Easter. I bet it will be crazy. I was there for Holy Week 20 years ago and Easter is their most sacred of holidays.

Hope everyone is having a fantastic day.

My sister and I were thinking the same thing yesterday, except for the egg hunt. Depending on what people are going to post regarding this Easter trip...I am prepared to celebrate before we leave if needed and on-board too. Maybe they will have something cool in Mazatlan. Can't belived it's coming up on a year out!! :thumbsup2

I cannot wait to start the one year countdown on Saturday. Then I think it will go fast down from 12 months to 1 month. I am really surprised that we do not have more people on our cruise thread. I don't understand why this cruise is not super popular.

My daughter turns 7 next Monday and I keep telling her when she turns 8 we will be on the ship. I also have a son turning 2 May 1st so it is my goal this next 12 months to get him potty trained. I think he is going to mature so much this year he might almost be pleasant to travel with next year.

We are going to Disneyland for one day the beginning of June so that will give me my Disney fix for a while. I wish we could do the parks longer, but gotta save money for this cruise. I am not sure if we are going to do the parks when we are there for the cruise. I think we might hit up Universal Studios Hollywood since my kids have never been there. We might be done with Disney after 10 days.

I know...I keep check the DCL website too. There's still a lot of time thought. Well maybe we can get pixiedust and get bumped. ;) I wouldn't complain!

Wish them a happy birthday from people they might meet on the cruise, we do have our 7 yo's, they will probably be in the club together.

I know...we are probably doing DL at Christmas instead. I have been itching for Disney.

Your children will probably love it. We just went on Spring Break this year. JoJo, DS7 really thought it was cool. They have a lot of characters, wish we would have seen Scooby though. We did do the Backlot Tour and there were a lot of things skipped. King Kong will be up and running this summer. It was still fun, but it AINT no Disney. :thumbsup2 We stayed a few blocks off Hollywood Blvd and took the Metro to Universal. It gave us time to walk around Hollywood Blvd a few days seeing things I hadn't seen in a very long time. It's not as bad a place like it was about 10 yrs ago. :thumbsup2 Would really like to do Universal Orlando one day, funny how its got a lot of rides, but Hollywood is still a working studio and they were filming Ghost Whisperer while we were there.

WooHoo!!!! We sail one year from today. :cool1:

Not sure if we are driving to SoCal on the 17th or driving a day earlier. I guess we have time to figure that out. Very excited to hit the one year mark since I booked this in Oct.

Seems like this cruise is starting to generate more interest because of it's price. Hope to have more DIS members join us.

So what is everyone's dinner seating time? Right now we are scheduled for Main, but most likely I am going to switch to late. I have always enjoyed the late dinner, I feel not so rushed in the afternoon to get ready for dinner. The kids swim longer, we don't have to rush in from port, and I LOVED the dine-n-play, where the kids eat with us for about 45min. and then the kids club come and picks them up and the adults can finish our meal. They don't have that option for Main seating yet. I am just not sure how my little guy will do with the late nights. I am pretty sure if I nap him good during the day he will last for the evening festivities.

Here's to a fun year on the boards planning our cruise together:woohoo:

Hi, everyone, we’re going to be cruising with you!:banana:

We had a Western Caribbean booked on the Carnival Dream for the same week, but when you all were talking on a thread yesterday about how relatively cheap this 10 day on the Wonder is I just had to check it out. And once I took into account the price of flights to Orlando and our DCL discount for transferring an on board reservation (just got back from a spring break cruise on the Magic), the 10 nights on the Wonder is only a few hundred dollars more than the 7 night - that made it a pretty easy decision to switch. :goodvibes

We’ve done 4 previous Mexico cruises, 2 in March/April and 2 in July. We had pretty good luck with the weather on all of them. The first and last sea days can be a little cool but Mexico is nice and warm, even though it’s much more humid than we are used to here in the desert. The water was cold in the spring, but ok once you were in awhile.

Oh, I should introduce us. I’m Dany and I’ll be travelling with my husband (Joe) and our daughter who will be 15 this summer. Looking forward to chatting with all of you over the next year!

We always drive down a day early just to avoid the stress of any possible delays. Several hotels near the port have "Park and Cruise" deals where you spend a night and get free parking at the hotel for the duration of the cruise. We've stayed at the Crowne Plaza several times and it's worked out great!

Welcome LV Disney Fan, glad your were able to join us!!

YEAH!!! :woohoo: :rotfl: :dance3: One year!!

We too will drive in a day early, we are all from the Fresno area. Last cruise we stayed at the Best Western, it really wasn't too nice. The room looked quite old, needed repairs and new carpet. But we LOVED seeing the back of the Serenade of the Seas when we opened the curtains in the morning. They too have the park and cruise deal and a shuttle. We are going to look at all the other hotels this time around.

:grouphug: We (Sandy, Danny, JoJo, my sister & BIL) have Main Dining. I would love to try late dining for the same reasons True Romance does, but I think I will wait til JoJo is a little older.

Can't wait to talk with everyone about port adventures. Wish DCL would post them on their site now. I have looked at previous navigators so I have a few shore ex in minds already.

We're all new to DCL and I really can't wait to experience the difference. :thumbsup2

A year from today we will be at our first port of Puerto Vallarta!! Does anyone have excursions or things they know they want to do here? I have been to PV a couple of times, but I was a teenager then. Need inexpensive ideas on what to do with the kids.

On a side note, I just booked the 2 day Wonder trip to No Where on 1/21/11. I thought this would be a fun weekend trip for just my husband and I. This will also get him familiar with the ship.

I've been on some great excursions in PV, but I wouldn't call any of them inexpensive (and your kids might be a little young for some of them). But, FWIW, I can recommend the Dolphin Swim, Las Caletas, and best of all, the ziplining!

The trip to nowhere sounds like fun! I'm trying to get a co-worker of mine to book that one. She probably wouldn't ever do a 7 night but she loves all things Disney so I know she'd enjoy the Wonder.

I would love to do ziplining, of course my kids are too young. Might look into it for just me maybe.

I could also leave a child or 2, or 3 :) on the ship when we go into port as well. I did that when we were in Key West. The kids stayed on the ship and had a blast and my mom and I went on the city tour. It was a win-win for us.

We are probably doing the Pirates adventure if available. Sound like fun with snorkeling to boot. :thumbsup2 If not...we are doing the Dolphin adventure. I only have a year to get JoJo to do the dolphin's though...it's one of my favs :lovestruc but he isn't ready just yet.

I just pray, since we're all newbies, that we can get a couple Palo ressies and spa treatment appointments at the 75 day mark. I am working on the OBC part... :rotfl: ...now a year doesn't seem so far off. :goodvibes

The Pirate adventure sounds fun, my kids would love it. Maybe I will look into that.

I bet you will be able to get Palo ressies no problem. 10 nights is a long time with plenty of opportunities. My mom was able to get a Palo brunch when we boarded the Magic for our 7 day in Oct. They had plenty of brunch spots still available. However, I had wanted to do the High Tea and there were no spots at all, they only do those on sea days. I think I am going to book one of each for this trip. A dinner, brunch and high tea. Maybe a couple of each.

I am also working on the OBC. Between my Disney Visa, the $200 OBC I got per room for rebooking onoboard, and a couple of Disney giftcards I got I think we will very comfortable for the cruise.

So lets see, a year from today we will be in Manzanillo. A whole new port to research. What are everyone's plans here?

I’ve read lots of positive things about the Pirate Ship excursion in PV, sounds like it’s great for families with younger kids.

We did the turtle farm excursion in Manzanillo a few years ago. It included not only the visit to the turtle farm, but a boat ride thru a nature preserve and a visit to a salt museum. My daughter was 10 at the time and we all really enjoyed it.

I’m not sure what we’re going to do this time; I haven't been able to find many choices. Maybe we’ll make it a beach day. :beach:

szubieta - I agree with True Romance; I don't think you'll have a problem with Palo or spa ressies, although you may not get exactly the day or time you want. From what I understand DCL releases the reservation slots in batches: some at 120 days out, some more at 105 days, more at 90, etc. and holds some back for on board booking. That way everyone gets a chance to book. And since we have 10 days that means more reservations available. :goodvibes We've only done brunch so far but this time we'll definitely try for brunch and dinner; Palo was wonderful!

Thanks guys...I just don't want to have to run onto the ship and stand in a big line for Palo. I would like to get ressies the PV day for dinner and if it's as good as people say get another ressie later in the cruise. Same with brunch, but I understand it only available on sea days.

The turtle farm sounds good in Manzanillo, but can't find much either online so who know. :confused3

Since there is not much information on the ports here on the DISBboards I have been reading Cruise Critique. They have a whole forum for the Mexican Riviera with good excursions and information. Check them out.

Thanks for the links! They are going to have to update the port calendar though - RCCL's Mariner of the Seas won't be in San Pedro next spring (less busy at embarkation for us :)). RCCL is moving MOS to Europe in January 2011; guess there's not enough business in the Mexican Riviera these days to support all those ships. I hope that means the Wonder will pick up some of their passengers. I've been paranoid about DCL cancelling or changing our cruise ever since I read that because of slow sales they changed the 10 day New Years cruise on the Magic to two 5 day cruises!

Glad to help out!

I got an e-mail 2 days ago and our TA called about the Mariner. Worse off I get $200 more OBC on top of the rebooking OBC for the Mariner's leaving. Oh well...it was a dummy ressie anyway. :cool1: In the e-mail it does not even give a ship replacement, so looks like DCL will have more customers. :confused3

I should say it is Cruise Critic I have been getting lots of good info on the ports, not cruise critique. My fingers type words on their own sometimes.

I am also worried they might cancel or change this sailing on us. I am praying they don't. I just cannot believe it is not more popular.

I am starting to get good ideas on what to do in the ports. However my husband is getting sick of me talking about the cruise, so I need to take a break for my planning.

Right now this is what I think we are going to do.

Puerto Vallarta--go to the all-inclusive resort of Crown Paradise
Manzanillo--the turtle farm then beach
Mazatlan--Stone Island, possibly a self booked excursion there that includes food, drinks and activities
Cabo--hire a glass bottom boat to go under the arch and then drop us off at a family friendly beach

Since our kids are pretty small and we have a tight budget we have to keep things simple. All the kids really want to do is play in the water.

Well a year from now our cruise is over. It is nice to say our cruise is less than a year away now.

Yeah, I also have been on the critic and porters site. I even started threads on them to see if we getting a full ship. Not one response, well, there's some time yet.

I'm prayin too they won't dump the cruise. I will be so disappointed I WILL CRY. (Not going to think about it...NOT GOING TO THINK ABOUT IT!!!) I have wanted to go on a Disney Cruise for the past 10+ years. Any how I will proceed as we are...

My husband just asks me "what are we doing now" everytime I'm on line. So our port adventures are currently...

PV - Pirate Ship Snorkeling Adventure pirate: :dance3:
Manzanillo - ?? but the Turtle Farm sound nice, I will have to investigate
Mazatlan - ?? Old Town shopping
Cabo - Dolphin Center & Cabo Wabo (for sure!!)

Our son just asked me about the dolphin picture hanging in the hallway and told him all about it and said he will get to do it next year and I got the usual response...NO WAY! I'm still working on him. :thumbsup2

My goodness! I hope they don't cancel this cruise. I'll be ticked too. I will also be ticked if they shorten the cruise or modify it in some insane way that makes sense only to Disney. I'm not flying out to CA for a 7-night cruise. But, I think we are getting ahead of ourselves. Everyone think positive!

Mike and I have done the Mexican Riviera before and loved it. I am trying to get Mike to do Randi's Happy Horses again in Mazatlan. It was one of my favorite excursions. There was just something about horseriding on the beach that I just found so peaceful. :lovestruc

Horseback riding on the beach is great. We did it in Jamaica and I used to do it down in SoCal as a teen. What type of terrain do you ride on or is it all on the beach? I'd bet JoJo is too young anyway.

Riding with Randi is my favorite thing to do in Mazatlan! :thumbsup2 Actually, it’s the only thing we’ve ever done in Mazatlan; we’ve been there 3 times and each time we’ve gone with Randi. :goodvibes But that’s because it is such a fun day we don't want try anything else. Randi picks you up from the port, then takes you to a nice Mexican family’s house on Stone Island where they match you to a horse based on your riding ability. And, szubieta, your son would not be too young; we had 5-6 year olds on our rides. Several of the family members come on the ride with the group and watch over everyone. The best part is that while they take really good care of the beginners, if they see you can ride they let you gallop up and down the beach to your heart’s content! I’ve been riding for a long time, but my daughter had never been on a horse til her first time with Randi, and we both thought it was wonderful.

The riding is mostly on the beach, sometimes if there are no bugs they’ll take you back through some trees. The ride ends at Victor’s Restaurant on the beach where you can buy lunch (the garlic shrimp is great!) and then play in the water or just chill until it’s time to go back to the ship. My DH tried riding the first time we went, but decided he’d rather skip that in the future ( I think it had something to do with the fact that he couldn't walk the next day :rotfl:) so the last 2 times he just came along and waited for us at Victor’s. Nice relaxing day for him.

If you enjoy horseback riding, I can’t recommend Randi enough, and it’s only $45 per person (I think it was only $15 for DH when he didn’t ride). You can get more info at her website http://www.randishappyhorses.com/
We're definitely doing it again next year!

Thanks so much for the recommendation and link. I love riding and have done so my whole life. Have been lucky enough to ride on the beaches in Kauai and in the middle of cattle ranches in Colorado. My daughter is also in riding lessons now and loves horses. I will look into Randi's. I had to laugh when looking at their site and the recommended riding wear:
Recommened attire

Closed Toed Shoes
Hat
Long Pants (but shorts are ok)
Bring sun screen
Due to the bouncing on a Horse ladys are encourged to wear supporting under garments.

I am kinda stuck on excursions since our youngest will be 2 weeks from turning 3, he can't do to much. I am considering doing Stone Island on our own and leaving him on the ship. If we leave him on the ship I don't want to be tied down to an excursion and their time tables. If we do the stuff we want to do I want to be able to return to the ship right away. I have read that we can find activities on our own there, ATV's, banana boats, horseback riding, ect. I'll have to see how he does this next year and if he is okay to be left in the clubs for a long period. He is outgoing now and loves the clubs he goes to at church, the gym, and other kid care facilities I leave him at. We also have conquered potty training this week. On our cruise in Oct, I left my 6 & 4 year olds onboard and toured Key West. They had a blast and did not even miss me.

I know it's really early (but I think all of us here have already proved we're slightly crazy over-planners :rotfl2:) but I wanted to let you all know about a good deal I found for a room at the Doubletree in San Pedro. I just booked the AAA rate for April 16 for $111.20 plus tax. Since they will let us park the car for free for 10 days and parking at the port is $12/day, we are basically spending the night for free! :cool1:

Doubletree and Crowne Plaza are the 2 hotels closest to the pier that let you park at the hotel and shuttle to the pier; both get good reviews on Cruise Critic and TripAdvisor. (Actually I think there's a Vagabond Inn too, but it gets bad reviews.) We've stayed at the Crowne Plaza twice before and liked it, but they only allow parking at the hotel if you buy their "Park and Cruise" package, which has cost us $179-$199 (it does include 2 free breakfast buffets, but the food wasn't so great). The Doubletree offers "Park and Cruise" packages too, but they let you park there for free during the cruise even if you don't buy the package.

Just FYI if you are thinking about driving in a day early!

I agree with you, anything less than 7 days is usually going to be too short! To make the flight worthwhile We'll probably add a day or 2 at universal before the cruise - we really want to check out the new Harry Potter attraction.

We're doing an Alaska cruise on the Carnival Spirit this July; first time to Alaska for all of us. Priced the cheapest balcony on the Wonder to Alaska next year and it's almost double the price of our extended balcony on Carnival! I love DCL but we've had wonderful cruises on Carnival too, and that price difference more than pays for all those expensive Alaskan excursions.

I browse and read alot, but don't participate much. I was just reading about the possible cancellation? Where does one find out about this stuff? nothing like the Disboards! Thanks for the info on Doubletree in San Pedro and great info on excursions.
We're driving from San Diego the night before, so the DT sounds perfect!
I didn't read all the logs and was wondering if the Fish Extender question had been asked yet?

There has been no real talk about our cruise being canceled. We had been reading the main cruise boards and a New Years cruise was canceled, and we were just saying I hope that does not happen to ours. I highly double that they would cancel or shorten this cruise. Since it is right before the repositioning to Alaska.

Welcome to our board! We are all very excited for the next 11 months to go by quickly.

I am all up for FE's. I have never done them before, but they sound like fun. I guess I can start a list of who is interested.

Is anyone crafty enough to make a cruise logo for us? I don't have those skills at all.

I am not crafty...so I haven't decide on doing a FE yet. I will keep you posted. :confused3

For a cruise logo, we can get them from the graphics threads for magnets. I have been watching that thread and trying to decide which ones to do for our door. I am going to make some for DSister and DBIL too. That's about as crafty as I get. :rolleyes1 Then I or we can look thru their pictures and we can do some theme magnets.

I think we should stick with the "Diez Noches Calientes en la Riviera Mexicana/17 - 27 de abril 2011". And do some with "Ten Hot Nights in the Mexican Riviera April 17 - 27, 2011" too. What do you guys think the logo should be? And does anyone have any ideas on a theme for the picture? Here's the link to the thread. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2440038 . Click on the links in Milliepie, ****** & tjbaggotts posts to see all the graphics. :thumbsup2 I'm kinda hoping to start see more MR themed ones as it gets closer to January. Like the pirates one, The Three Caballeros or something to that effect.

Count me in if the group wants to do an FE exchange!:goodvibes We've had such a good time doing it on past DCL cruises. szubieta - You don't need to be crafty at all to participate (I'm certainly not!). You can buy an FE on ebay or make a really simple one yourself. And the gifts can be anything you want; small store bought goodies are fine. It was just a lot of fun to both deliver the stuff and find out what had been left for us each day.

I've been trying to come up with a nifty cruise graphic for us but no luck so far (I'm good with the mechanics of Photoshop but not so good on coming up with the creative ideas - lack of that crafty gene again!). But I'll see what I can do. Of course, if anyone else has ideas that would be great!

Count me in the non-crafty group as well. I do have a desire to be crafty, but just don't have it. I would be happy with any logo. If I can think of some ideas or find some graphics, I will post them.

I have a few magnets made from our last cruise, that we will reuse. Also I will probably start making some more 6 months out. Can't get myself too worked up and ready for the cruise. Need to get through summer first.

Passport prices are going up, so if you need one you might want to get it sooner rather than later. I have to renew mine this summer, so I am going to do it now. Also going to get one for my 2 year old. The older kids have passport cards, but I think I am going to get them books too.

This is the information I read on another thread on DIS. The person who posted got the information from her employer

The State Department has proposed new fees for many of its passport related products and services. The total proposed cost of a new passport will increase from $100 to $135 for adults and from $85 to $105 for minors according to ASTA. Renewals will increase from $75 to $110 for adults and from $60 to $80 for minors. Travelers needing extra visa pages will soon pay $82 (currently this service is free). The State Department has indicated that these new fees could be implemented as soon as next month. If you need a new passport, if your passport expires this year, or if you are needing additional pages for your passport we recommend you take advantage of the current lower fee structure and renew your passport now before the higher rates go into effect

Hello to everyone in this group. I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Monica and I live in Mazatlan, Sinaloa Mexico. For anyone on a future Disney cruise to the Mexican Riviera, I am pleased to make myself available to you for any questions about the city of Mazatlan or country of Mexico.

As for myself, I am a resident of both the United States and of Mexico. I speak both English and Spanish fluently and I have sailed on DCL numerous times and have been a lifelong fan of Disney. Let me say right upfront, I am NOT selling anything nor am I affiliated with any business or tour company. I am only here to help and give honest information and opinions in an attempt to make your time in Mazatlan or Mexico a positive experience.

I hope that everyone will welcome me to the discussion and that I can be of assistance to anyone who has a question about my city or country. I will attempt to check the boards once per day, but should I miss a question, please do not hesitate to send me a private message. I look forward to getting to know everyone!

So excited to have more members join our meet thread. In the Fall I will start taking names of who wants to participate in the FE.

This is our last week of school and then I am heading out of town for a few weeks. Going to be at DL a week from today with our GAD promo ticket, then we are doing Legoland, Seaworld, and I am driving to Phoenix to visit friends there. 1 week of the trip my husband with be with us and then he flys home and I am on my own with the 3 kids. Wish me luck. Not a very relaxing vacation, but it is better then staying home. I will probably stress my family out with our day at DL. I want to try and get everything done in both parks just in one day. I know I am crazy. Wish we lived closer or that they offered a CA discounted AP instead of just SoCal. We would visit DL more often if we could afford an AP.

Hope everyone had a great Memorial Weekend. Just 10 1/2 months to go. It will be nice to get in the single digit months soon.

The talk of the cruise being canceled came from a NYE 10-day cruise that was canceled and split into 2 five day cruises. There has been absolutely no real talk of this cruise being canceled. We just made a statement saying we hope that did not happen to our cruise. They were just merely some statements from us posters, just disregard them.

I would no call DCL, really no reason.

I was my NYE 10 day cruise that was cancelled or rather changed into 2 5 day cruise to the same locations and yes we were . One thing I noticed about that cruise was there were lots of available rooms and our DIS meet board only had about 3 people that were active on it. At least on this one there are many people active on this meet and I doubt they would cancel it. (crossing my fingers here). So we moved our NYE 10 day to the 7 day NYE cruise (birthday celebrations for us) and then most recently they opened up Cat 12 on that cruise, so we saved more than $2K by rebooking a Cat 12 and then were able to afford this cruise. We really wanted to do a longer cruise. Plus it matches our spring break.

TrueRomance - I noticed you were on the Oct 17 cruise in 2009, that was our cruise as well. Not sure we crossed paths on that cruise.

Anyhow looking forward to getting to know you all!

If you can get two 4/5 day trips in a 12 month period, you could justify the AP cost, but it still is a big hit at once. Have you children tell Mickey we'll be there to celebrate Christmas with him (well after) and can't wait. :woohoo: Its been over a year since we were there last and it sucks. :sad1: Hope you guys get to see the new World of Color and Fantasmic. That's funny, I bet we did cross paths. I was not too involved with that meet thread because we only booked 2 weeks out and I was too late to join the FE's. We had a blast and my kids just adored the clubs, however the weather sucked. I was so tired of being rained on after that trip. We were stuck in the pouring rain in Grand Cayman, Cozumel, and CC. That was my first trip to the Caribbean and hope to return in maybe 2012. I am really hoping to have nice weather in April 2011.

For some reason it doesn't show the ports in the right order (it's the map that's on the DCL site - you'd think they'd have gotten it right :confused3) but it's still pretty cool how Milliepie put it in the Mickey ears. Ohhh Yeah! I like that one too...hadn't seen it in her files. Keep us posted if you have any new ideas. Wish I could do it. ;)

I have been working on my Disney Visa for about 3 yrs. I only got this card for the few perks and for OBC. I'd rather use my CC that gives me $2 for every $1 I spend. I use the Disney Visa to book for the $50 OBC and the TA for more and she did it on-line for more. We like to do spa treatments so a lot of OBC is very important to us. On our 15nt Hawaiian Circle cruise we had enough OBC to carry us through most all the cruise. :woohoo: RCCL's CC gives you great perks including OBC and if you own their stock you get OBC. Wish DCL gave some more perks and OBC for owning stock too. :confused3

Dany

Thank you for sharing!! I was wondering if any of the hotels offered this.

Wow.. Loomis is now Granite bay?. No grew up off Douglas blvd, just down from Auburn-Folsom BLvd. (close to where the branch library is located). We use to have free run of the woods out there. Our friends owned all the old Sheep Property between Rocky Ridge and Sierra College blvd which I believe is named after them Johnson Range. Just got back from our Carlsbad/Anaheim trip. It was kinda a whirlwind and we jammed a lot into 6 days. We did 2 days at Legoland, since we were staying across the street. Then went to Anaheim for a night, stayed at the HoJo Anaheim--fantastic place. Great pirate themed water play area and cheap rooms if you can get the Entertainment rate. DL and DCA were fun but exhausting. We upgraded our GADGAD promo tickets to include both parks. I am kinda a fanatic and tried to do everything in both parks in one day. We actually got a lot done with the 3 kids. My soon to be 5 year old (his birthday is this Thursday the 17th) finally reached 40" so he was able to ride Space Mt, Big Thunder, Soaring over CA, Star Tours--all the fun ones. He is a speed demon and loved them. I then waited 3 hours for Fantasmic, had to get front row seats. My 2 year old was exhausted and fell asleep in my arms during the fireworks. I am surprised at how much we did, and the parks were relatively crowded.

My husband is of course exhausted from DL. I told him the cruise is a totally different experience and he will love it. I told him it has all the magic of Disney, but it actually feels like a vacation and you are not exhausted by the end of the day. He hopes to be pleasantly surprised. I am the driving force behind the cruise, he is just going because I booked it and am making him go. I make all the travel arrangements and he just has to go along :goodvibes

So I was so excited when I saw the kids sail free promo, and then I saw it only went through March. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed that they add if for our sailing. If anyone notices that it gets added, please post here ASAP. However not sure if it would help us too much. Since we are a family of 5, we have 2 rooms (10A's). To take advantage of the promotion we would have to change to Cat. 4. Those are pretty pricey. I could at least price it out both ways and get an idea. I think if the 10 day is not selling well, they would definitely add it.

I love all the logos, very talented. I really like the 1st two.

BTW... when my parent bought their home out there, Douglas blvd was named Rocky Ridge Road.

This is too funny! I live right near where you used to live. I live off of Joe Rodgers Road, across from the green farmhouse; which is now a art school. The library is new. My mom and grandparents lived in Lake View Hills since the 50's, so I remember as a child driving down the long road of Douglas;which was a two lane road with cows and sheep. Johnson Ranch is a neighborhood community with an upscale (can't afford it) tennis/ health gym. I remember Jumbo supermarket was the only thing on Auburn Folsom! I teach at Granite Bay High School, and tell all the kids that Granite Bay used to a rural area. I went to Oakmont High School. Weirdly enough, Granite Bay is now very upper class, there are mansions everywhere. We just lucked out and made a lot of money off our previous homes to afford in the area, but we also bought super high, so we are stuck in our home for awhile. Which bumms me to no end because it takes us so much longer now to afford a Disney cruise!! Argh!! Our last one was Christmas 2006!! And I've been itching to go on one again ever since!!! I've talked three families in the past to go on them, so that was kind of a happy thing for me, but jealous at the same time!! (-: I like where we live, we have half an acre and ducks and geese fly over our house and in our pool all the time. I've been told by people that our house used to have lots of land until it was broken into smaller 1/2 acre lots. I was told my house was a farmhouse, but they added onto it. When did you move from Granite Bay?

Hi Kristi,

So, how did you manage going on a Disney Cruise without taking your DH? My husband loved the last Disney cruise we were on. He would tell everyone we met, that that was the only way to cruise with your family. He had the best time. He talked one of his very macho guys and his new bride to go on their honeymoon on the DCL and they did! They loved it! They got one of the top suites; which we never could afford, especially with children. I see you have to buy two rooms? Hopefully they are connected. Anyway, I was thinking that would be neat to have the kids meet ahead of time just so the kids feel they will know at least one other person that isn't family on the cruise. My daughter Londyn, is a social butterfly and very personable. She loves to make new friends. Hopefully, we can set something up in the future.

We will be joining you on this one! We are so very excited to finally find dates where school is not an issue and either are our dd's other actvities!

It will be DH and I, along with our 2 dd's, 9 & 5. We will also be bringing grandma along too.

We did the Mex Riv cruise in 2008 and really enjoyed it. Recently we just took the EB Transatlantic along with the 1st Med cruise with DCL.

We live in San Diego....any other SD folks out there?

Welcome back, Kristi - sounds like you need a vacation to recover from your vacation! We're always exhausted when we get back from DL too; I'm a "get there before it opens and be the last one out at night" kind of person (although I do let my family go rest in the room for awhile in the afternoons while I go shopping :rolleyes1); hate to miss a single minute in the parks! A cruise is definitely more relaxing.

Here's another cruise design. To give credit where it's due, the background and the character clip art is from Milliepie's shared folder (it is soooooo nice of her to make these available to everyone!). I did it once with the logo in Spanish and once in English. I think I like these best so far because of the Mexican theme. As always, suggestions are welcome!

Aww, you guys are so nice... Like I said, I just kind of expanded off of Milliepie's graphics, but I'm glad you like them. Sure, we can use one of them as a logo - maybe the Spanish one since that's the title of our thread? Thank you! I've got the original in Photobucket so it was really easy to resize via their edit menu. But if you right click on the big original graphic you can save the file to your computer and then use any photo or graphics editor to resize it down to what you want. If the size in my signature works for you then just right click on that one to copy it and post it in your signature block. If you want it bigger than the small one and have trouble resizing it I can make it a few different sizes to post here.

I have a very large folder for magnets that I will have to scale down or the boat might liste to one side. :lmao: I have a list of ones needing names and I will be making DSister's too. I WONDER what the x-ray machine people will think when I roll in with a suitcase full of magnets and FE gifts...It's Disney...they are probably used to it. :rotfl:

I can't wait to figure out how to add our cruise logo. Can't wait to meet everyone.

I did a intro a few pages back so you guys know who we are. If any one feels comfortable go ahead and tell us about you and yours. I do suggest no stateroom #'s yet.

Kristi...I changed my mind...please put us down for the FE Gift Exchange? I have already bought 15 childrens gifts.

As I typing this I realize that people on the East coast and on the DCL are watching Toy Story 3 :3dglasses...can't wait to see it. I get to go next week. Our 19yo ex-foster son works at a theater and is getting us in free. He was going to take us to Shrek and I said that would be nice, but mommy rather see Toy Story 3. ;)

I say human child because we also have a black Lab who thinks she's our child. :dogdance: We live in Henderson, NV which is a suburb of Las Vegas; this will be our 3rd Disney cruise (but 1st on the Wonder) and our 5th MR cruise. Okay, here is my intro. My name is Kristi, my husband is Kevin, and our three kids; Isabelle turns 8 on the cruise, Danny is 5, and Brennan will be 2 weeks away from turning 3. My kids are all very outgoing and love any sort of kids club or camp. They fully intend to be at the clubs most of the time. Even little Brennan likes to keep up with the older brother and sister. I was on the Magic Western last Oct. 2009 with my Mom, Isabelle and Danny. My Mom is a travel agent and got a fantastic last minute deal. So with 2 weeks notice we bought air from CA and headed on the cruise. My husband and I have been on several cruises together pre-kids (non-DCL) This will be his first DCL cruise. He needs a lot of convincing that it will be fun and relaxing, even with 3 small kids. We scored and got 2 connecting SPH rooms. We are currently in Main dining, but I will most likely switch to 2nd. I prefer it and I love the dine & play option. I was on a MR cruise as a teenager, and also traveled all over Mexico with my high school back in 1990. Hmmm, what else. Like most of you I am a Disney fanatic. Have grown up going to DL, but have never been to DW. Was lucky enough to work at DL in their College Program the summer of 1997. Dream come true.

I will start the FE list. If you are interested, send me a PM with your names, and kids names and ages. No stateroom #'s yet. I can get those closer to the sailing. How fun!! Now I need to get FE ideas. :cool1:

Hi... I am Laura and traveling with me on this cruise will be DH (Bruce) and DD who is now 8 but will be 9 at the time of the cruise. We cruised last October and were on the same cruise as Kristi  , but not sure if we ran into her family knowing they were a DIS family. We had such a great time and rebooked on board for a Nov 2011 MR cruise. But then decided that we would book a 10 day holiday Caribbean cruise over NYE and DD's and my birthday. Unfortunately that cruise was changed to 2 5 day Bahama cruise. So we switched to the 7 night NYE Eastern and got a great rate on a Cat 12, so we moved our rebooking discount to this cruise, because we really wanted to do a longer cruise. Holding out for a SPH room on this cruise and our travel agent is watching for us... Kristi, if you decide to drop one, let me know ;)

We are booked for Main dining, but not sure if we will change or not. Our DD loved the clubs and all the activities and will probably be spending her time there. She would like to make sure we do beach excursions in Mexico, she had a great time when we did one on our Cozumel trip and we will have to find a similar one.

We live in Tucson, but you might have seen that I grew up where deseriemilburn now lives (even the same street). It is very hot and dry here now and ready for a cruise in a tropical place!!!!

Haha Laura! I booked these rooms in October, so excited to get the connecting SPH's. Now if they offered KSF for this sailing, we will drop them and have to change to a Cat 4. I think that would be cheaper for us. I am totally holding out hope that will happen. If that does, I will work with you and let you know when I am changing them. Would love for another DIS'er to get those rooms.

I cannot believe you and deseriemilburn shared the same street. Same house too? That would be really funny. Her and I live relatively close by now, maybe 15 minutes away. I live on the Lincoln/Rocklin boarder. When I get around to answering my PM's I would love to get together for a play date. Laura, if you ever head back up this way, let us know.

Thanks for the PM's regarding FE's. I will start my list.

Haven't heard from Deseriemilburn if we shared the same house... Then it really is a small world.
So much has changed in that area since the last time I was back there. I am trying to picture the Lincoln area. Is there still the Big S (for Sierra College) on the hill in Rocklin. We use to get Plums from a farm beneath that hill.

Hi everyone. Just checking back in! After reading through I realized that I have to change my signature!! So excited to have more cruises on our radars again!!!

I saw a few people are on the 2 night cruise. We are also on that cruise! So excited to be able to drive and just spend 2 nights on the wonder! Then just one step closer to platinum!

I am currently starting my own buisness it is consuming all my time! I can't wait for the dust to settle from all of that to have more time for the DIS and getting to know everyone.

Anyone else book any KSF cruises? We are on the March 20th. We would have liked to have gone sometime in Feb but our dd's social calendar did not work for that! :rotfl: I sware that child is busier then we are!!!

One thing I am so excited for this cruise is a new show that I think they will have on board. It is called "The Dream Goes On". It started on the Transatlantic this year and is continuing for the Med. I know it will be on the PC and I am really hoping it will be on this long cruise! I was lucky enough to go backstage of the theatre one night on the TA and the guy told us it would be on the MR cruises. I am not sure if he meant normal 7 days cruises or just the long ones like PC, 10 Night and 8 Night cruises. So I am really keeping my fingers crossed it is on there! We would have skipped dinner to see it a 2nd time had it not been playing on both the TA and the Med. It is that great of a show! It shows the history of Walt's life. It brings tears to my eyes. If you grew up going to DL or have a love for it now you will LOVE this show!!!!

Hello everyone!!

My name is Deserie and my DH name is Troy. My DD Londyn will be 8 and my DS Logan will be 5. We live in Granite Bay, kind of near Sacramento, CA. I've been on lots of cruises, but only one other DCL; which was on the Wonder during Christmas of 2006. Logan was 1!! That was interesting with a baby. I'm a high school teacher who teaches Spanish and Dance!! So I can help with translating! Ha ha! I'm a Disney fanatic, our game room, and all kids rooms are Disney themed. I've even made several of my dance shows throughout the years Disney themed!! I am so excited like everyone else to be going on another Disney cruise. I wished I hadn't had to wait so long, but I wanted to wait until Logan could really appreciate the cruise with his sister. I'll be going to Disneyland for 3 days in mid-March, so that will be fun to grab some last minute Disney stuff for the cruise! Maybe if anyone else would like me to grab some stuff while I'm there I can.

We will be driving down the night before, and thanks to someone else sharing on this thread, I hope to stay at one of the hotels that will let us keep our car there while we cruise for "diez noches calientes"!!. I chose late seating because it seemed last time that everything was going on like character signings and other fun stuff during early seating. And I felt like we were always rushing to get to dinner on time. Is that still right? Plus, since we are used to PSTime it shouldn't be too hard to wait until 8pm to eat I think. I hope I'm right! I think I read somewhere that the times will change at some of the ports for us a few times (an hour difference or so) is this correct?

I think I'm going to buy the Passporters Book of 08" to read up on the ports of MR, and then also buy the new Passporters to see if there is any new stuff to add. I'm guessing all of you have it, right? It was like a bible for me, the Birnbaums one wasn't too great.

I discovered the disboards late before I cruised last time, but I have from time to time over the years popped in to see what new topics and questions people have had on the cruises, just so I could be prepared when we would do a DCL cruise again. But,... I have to say, it sure has changed a lot since 06' and I still have some questions! Magnets were just seeming to get started in 2006, but now it's all the craze? I didn't see one single door magnet on our cruise. What are FE's? And what is a SPH? I bought the Passporters Book in 06, so I'm guessing that that is secret port hole? Correct me if I'm wrong. I feel like I have a lot to learn on here.

Lastly, I have to admit this is all new to me. I didn't join a cruise group last time. I don't know how to add all the fancy stuff all of you have. I don't know how to add the graphics, pics, countdown thinga'ma'bobber. But, I do have to say it's really fun to get to talk/share with other people who are just as excited as I am about our cruise!! This is going to be fun to count down to!!

Hi Deserie - To add to your signature.. If you go to the top of the page, you will see a red bar. With User CP. Click user cp and that will take you to your account information for DISboards. along the side is how to edit your signature.

Then you can just start typing. If you want a graphic, you have to have an image in one of the photosharing sites or maybe you can link to one of ours. Let me see if I can find instructions on the site on how to do it.

Also when you scroll up to the top, you will see that you have a Personal message, click on that link and you can read it. (There is one from me there)

Is that how everyone put our cruise logo in their signature? I'm still trying to figure that out. Do I just open an account with Photobucket and save the graphics there? Then at some point it will give me a code for my signature? Is that all? :confused3 Sandy

Sandy, Right below or to left of the graphic they will have different codes for Sharing. .... You will need to copy the one that has the IMG "..." and past that code in your signature (cut and paste)

Sounds like a great show - hope we get to see it! The one thing I really don't like about our cruise is that it's the only one with this itinerary; we won't be able to ask previous cruisers what show is on each night, or when the formal nights are, etc. How am I going to plan Palo and such?! Will DCL be able to give us that info when we get closer to our sail date? Or maybe I'll just have to learn to just go with the flow a little more.....

-Deserie (it's pronounced like yes-a- ree)

We did move our clocks ahead 2 hours during our 2008 DCL MR cruise; I think that made ship's time the same as port time in every port.

Love my Passporter (I also have the 2008 version)! I don't think they're going to have a lot of new info on the MR cruises in this next update they have planned, but we'll see. And you are right - SPH stands for secret port hole. :thumbsup2

FEs are Fish Extenders. The FAQ sticky has a great explanation and some pics at http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=33184281&postcount=2
It's basically a little gift exchange among DISers and it's a lot of fun! It's also a great way to help the time until you cruise go by faster. Kristi (True Romance) has volunteered to organize ours (thank you, Kristi :flower3:) so just let her know if you decide to participate.

Sorry I have been MIA:goodvibes
The last few months have been busy but now that I'm done working:teacher: and our summer cruise is over so I have the next few mnths to chat:thumbsup2

I've read a few post but I'll have to go back later and read the last mnths or so.

I think I read that someone mentioned FE? My family is in. Also is there a meet and greet planned?

Also, I remembered that someone had mentioned horseback riding with Randy. Does anyone know if you can ride double(our kids our young and haven't ridden before) If anyone is booking this excursion maybe we can book a group together and see about a discount?

I'm a little bummed that the KSF offer doesn't include our dates:sad2: as it would have saved us lots of $$ Plus the dates its offered is not during our spring break. Maybe

Also, I kinda of gave myself a budget on what I would like to spend on airfare for the family(Around 1200$ rt) but I haven't booked anything yet because I still think its early:confused3 Any ideas on if I sould wait?

Hope everyone is having a great summer:grouphug:

I actually just booked our ride with Randi yesterday; she said I was her first reservation from the Wonder.:banana: (Did someone mention OCD planner? No, not me :rolleyes1) I've ridden with her 3 times before and never saw anyone riding double, but you can ask her. They are so good with small kids. Give them really gentle horses and keep them on a lead rope. But if you're concerned just send her an email; she'll get right back to you in a day or two. randi@randishappyhorses.com

I've never thought to ask her about a group discount. Not sure she'd be willing to do that since her rides generally fill up pretty well (She'll only take about 20 at a time but she'll do an early and a later ride if she has lots of riders.) But it won't hurt to ask. :)

I posted this about Randi's a few months ago:

Riding with Randi is my favorite thing to do in Mazatlan! Actually, it’s the only thing we’ve ever done in Mazatlan; we’ve been there 3 times and each time we’ve gone with Randi. But that’s because it is such a fun day we don't want try anything else.

My DH tried riding the first time we went, but decided he’d rather skip that in the future ( I think it had something to do with the fact that he couldn't walk the next day ) so the last 2 times he just came along and waited for us at Victor’s.

Oh my gosh, I knew they would add that promo. So bummed, I don't think it is going to help us much. I need to go over the numbers with my husband tonight and see what he thinks is best. Looks like we would have to move to a Cat. 4, one room, from our 2 SPH's (10A) We would only save really $300. Not sure if it is worth it. Hmmmm.

This cruise will be filling up fast.

I just called, it is valid for this date. Got the price on a Cat. 4 for us--not much of a difference because we also booked onboard got the 10% and $400 OBC--would lose all of that.

Try to call. When I was on the phone on hold(10 min) I tried to book it online and it wouldn't let. The KSF wasn't even showing on their website but I called and they were able to switch it without any problems.
It probably does make a difference on what cat you booked and how many kids you have. We have 2 kids so it was a better offer for us then the onboard booking offer.

Oh you must have two rooms so that is a lot of OBC to loose plus the 10%.
Is the cat 4 rooms any different/ better? We have never looked into these. We just use our cabin to sleep/showere and change so the room doesn't matter to us but location does.

We are a family of 5, so the higher Cat's cannot accommodate us. The Cat. 4 is a little bigger and has a balcony.

Might make sense for use if we want to upgrade. We already moved our Onboard rebooking to this cruise when they reduced the price of our NYE cruise. Hmmm if they keep doing this we might end up making Gold Soon.

FWIW- We were on the wonder in April 2010 sailing when most of the ship was able to get the KSF promo they offered. We booked last minute and had to pay full price for our two kids because the offer had expired. It kinda of "stung" a little because it seemed like we were the only one that payed full price for our kids(I'm sure there were others ;))

If they do, then I know we'll stick with this cruise!:thumbsup2
Has anyone else done that? Should I prepare myself to argue, or more likely beg for the KSF offer? Will I have to drop the OBC and 10% discount in exchange for the KSF? Will they let me keep my room?

No you won't have to beg there very nice about it . The lady I spoke to was as happy as I was about the offer. We were able to keep our same room but we did loose our OBC and 10% rebooking offer but we are getting almost 1000$ back. You may want to do the math to see which offer is better. If you have more than one child under 17 the KSF offer will probably be better. If it's only 1 child it may be about the same depending on what cat you booked and how much you paid.

Thanks!

We have been to Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta and Cabo with DCL in 2008. We really enjoyed the cruise and the ports.

In Mazatlan we did zip lining and ended at a Tequilla factory. We booked this through DCL and I highly reccomend it. The company was great. My husband and I had a blast!

In Puerto Vallarta we did swim with dolphins. We booked this on our own. It was WONDERFUL!

In Cabo we did the family beach excursion through DCL. I would not reccomend that one. We did not enjoy it. The hotel was packed, the food was "so-so" and the beach was too rough to enter the water.

SO EXCITED!!!

Thanks for the welcome!!!
We also did Cabo and Puerto Vallarta on Disney in 2008. The only thing I would recommend is the "Las Caletas Hideaway" in Puerto Vallarta. It was an all inclusive beach day. We had a blast, good food lots to see and do. Even though it rained at one point, it didn't stop my kids from having fun in the surf.
We didn't really do anything in cabo. Any recommendations?

I’m especially glad to see some more teenagers coming along! :cool1: We are cruising with our 15 yo daughter, who has never been bored on a cruise; there’s always something to do. Games and activities in the teen club, swimming, movies, hanging out with new friends; your kids will have a great time!

Hey there! I just booked this cruise yesterday for my family. These will be new ports for us...has anyone been to these ports before? I'd love to know more about them. Also, can anyone recommend a good hotel near the port?

Thanks!

There are two hotels I can recommend near the port: the Crowne Plaza and the Doubletree. These are great if you have a car you want to leave parked during the cruise or if you are just looking for a one night stay before the cruise. But there isn’t much to see or do in San Pedro, so if you are spending several nights and want to do some sightseeing I would definitely recommend you look elsewhere in LA near what you want to see.

As far as the ports, here are our experiences:

PV - We’ve done the dolphin swim, Las Caletas, and the Outdoor Adventure ziplining excursion. Really enjoyed all of them and can highly recommend them (although the ziplining is best for older kids). It's also easy to take a short cab ride downtown and just wander around.

Mazatlan - We always go horseback riding w/Randi’s Happy Horses on Stone Island. I’ve read great reviews about Mazatlan Frank if you are interested in an individualized tour of Mazatlan; he has a thread on the main cruise page.

In Cabo we’ve taken a couple catamaran sailing/snorkeling trips. They were fun, but the ocean is cold in April and the snorkeling itself was only so/so. This is the only tender port on our cruise which makes it a little more complicated to get to/from shore but it's not bad.

Manzanillo - We took a great tour to a turtle farm outside of town, also included a boat ride through a nature preserve and a short visit to a salt museum. Can't find much else to do there yet except go to one of the hotel beaches; looking forward to finding out what excursions DCL will offer.

For anyone who’d like to do some research on the MR ports while waiting for DCL to release the excursion list, check out Cruise Critic, which has a whole forum devoted to the Mexican Riviera.

Doin' the happy cruise dance. :dancer: I just put this on hold, I just need to check a few things before I plop my down payment on it. We were able to get the KSF offer for 3 kids, saving me almost $2700 dollars - YEAH!!!! Are cruising mob is: Me, Adult Daughter, DS(14), DD (7), DGD(7) - the kids will be 15 and 8 by the time we cruise.

We're going to be a bit cramped this time around in a Cat 4, but I couldn't pass up the KSF special, nor could I afford a suite this go around. We sailed in both 2005 and 2008 on the Magic when it did Mexico, so this will be our first time on the Wonder!

I just made it through reading the entire thread, and what a joy to have such an active thread. We have an Alaska (not DCL) cruise coming up in September and the meet has a post once a month. :sad2:

Just want to thank szubieta for directing me to the meet thread, I had a heck of time searching trying to find it. I never even thought about it being in Spanish LOL!!! But I LOVE it, so thanks again szubieta!

This will be our 2nd time to drive to the port. :woohoo: Make sure you come in a few days earlier and explore LA if you haven't been there before. :thumbsup2

Last cruise we stayed at the Sunrise Hotel on Harbor Blvd. It wasn't that great. I don't know if we just got the last (crumby) room or what. The lobby wasn't bad. JoJo was 5 1/2 and broke his elbow 2 days before the cruise and after spending the 2nd night in the ER getting it casted...we got in to LA after 1a...WE weren't missin' that cruise!!! The only real plus to the hotel was when we woke up we could see the back of our ship from the window. :dance3: At that point I could careless about the crappy room. :confused3

It's soo nice now that schools out, but I need a day to myself soon. :laundy: Since we have a pool...I try and read while watching the kids, but that's not too productive with 7 y/o's. 8 weeks til we go back to school.

For our 25th we did the 15nt Hawaiian circle cruise out of LA in '08 it was FAV. Wanted to go back to Hawaii since we spent our honeymoon there. I went back on our 8th anniversary and took his mother. :confused3 He wanted to take her to Hawaii and I told him that he could take her or I could take her and I would NOT go with the two of them. Thanks for catching that.. I posted to ****** to make the change... Our anniversary is this year and so we are doing the December cruise to celebrate (along with DD birthday and my birthday). DD birthday will be in the middle of the cruise and unfortunately mine is the day we disembark from the cruise :headache: So we will spend disembarkment day at a WDW resort and doing things at DTD, before traveling home the next day. Would hate to spend my birthday flying home or sitting around at MCO.

We did it this way, so we didn't have to deal with Inlaws :rotfl:, they generally like to come after the holidays and spend it with my DD for her birthday.

Hello everyone! We paid our deposit over the weekend (thanks to the kids sail free promo) so we're coming along! :cool1: This will be our third DCL cruise...we did MR on the Magic in 2005 and the Westbound Panama Canal on the Magic in 2008. We're very excitied to be sailing the Wonder. Our gang is be me (Lisa-45), DH (Mark-44) and our sons will be 12 (Ryan) and 9 (Drew). Our really good friends who we met on the PC cruise are also coming, not sure if they've posted on the thread yet.

Looking forward to it. Life is crazy so I can't say I'll be on the thread all the time but I'll try to keep up. :)

[QUOTE=LV Disney Fan(atic);37104705]I made reservations for 2. If DH comes along he'll just hang out at Victor's while DD and I ride.

Randi e-mailed me back and said we can't ride double and DH said he doesn't want to ride and were a little nervous since our kids have never rode so I don't think were going to book this excursion(unless I leave them on the ship and join your family:thumbsup2)

I[QUOTE=lucky1;37136214]To anyone that upgraded a reservation from Onboard rebook to KSF... Did you have to pay the full deposit now or did you keep the 50% deposit.

Might make sense for use if we want to upgrade. We already moved our Onboard rebooking to this cruise when they reduced the price of our NYE cruise. Hmmm if they keep doing this we might end up making Gold Soon.
Did you end up changing to the KSF offer or did you just keep what you had?

I am so happy to here you get to go to DL. :cool1: I'm assuming you have been before and love the two park being steps away from each other. :thumbsup2 We love going that time of year for a lot of reasons. We're going at Christmas if everything stays on course. :worship:

We went to disney land once 5 yrs ago. I youngest wasn't even 2 and or older DD was only 4 at the time. We only did DL for 3 days with two small kids so it will almost be a new expierence for all of us:woohoo:

I can understand being nervous with younger kids and you have to do what you are comfortable with. But you are definitely welcome to join us! :) Tell hubby you're going to leave him on the ship to watch the kids and see how fast he changes his mind about riding.

The 2008 Passporter does have quite a bit on info on PV, Mazatlan and Cabo, including reviews of all the excursions DCL offered then. Unfortunately nothing about Manzanillo since they never stopped there in '08.

Hi Amy and all others to our cruise,

That's me that lives in Lincoln :yay::yay::yay: We also have kids around the same age. My DD just turned 7 and my DS just turned 5. I wonder if we know each other? I just got another friend of mine from Lincoln to join us on this cruise. She has has a DD who is 6. I will get her to join this meet board. If you are ever up for a playdate before the cruise, send me a PM.

I am on vacation this week in Lake Tahoe with my mom and kids. Actually it seems like I have been on vacation this whole summer. It is beautiful weather here and we are having a good time, but I miss my DH. He is at a convention in Vegas this week. I just keep thinking of our fun, family cruise we will all be taking together next April.

So happy to have more and more families join our cruise and meet thread. I volunteer to do a roll-call when I get home next week.

This will be a fun cruise with so many kids.

We did the Mex Riv cruise in 2008 and really enjoyed it. Recently we just took the EB Transatlantic along with the 1st Med cruise with DCL.

We live in San Diego....any other SD folks out there?

We're not too far from San Diego...we live in Murrieta (Temecula Valley). I seem to remember you from another thread somewhere...did you plan on going on the WB PC in '08 and had to cancel? Met so many people on these threads through the years so I could be loosing my mind, lol!

Lake Tahoe is beautiful this week. In the mid 80's, it is nice to escape the Sacramento Valley of the 100's. The kids just love the lake, even though it is ice cold. Tahoe is a nice and relaxing vacation, just swimming and sight seeing. Not so much the hustle and bustle of visiting the parks. It is less than a 2 hour drive from us, so sometimes we make day trips to escape the heat.

Today we are heading to Virgina City, NV. An old wild west mining town. The kids should love it. We are planning on riding the train and a real stagecoach around the town.

Amy and I found out we live in the same neighborhood. So fun! Will be great to get to know other families before the cruise. Especially since it is a longer one.

LOVE Virginia City. Although we won't be going this trip. We'll be just up the road from you this weekend. We're visiting family in Reno for the 4th. Will be nice to get out of town. Reno will probably hit 90 on Sun or Mon. And their evenings are always cool because it's the high desert. Just 2 nights ago it was 92 at 11p here but last night was nice again. I do love our dry heat but come on...92 at 11 at night. :confused3

Is it true, there are no character breakfasts on the Wonder only 1 on the Magic? Bummer! :guilty:

There should be a character breakfast on the Wonder. It is only offered on 7 night or longer cruises. Since the Wonder does not normally do longer cruises then that is why it is not currently offered on board. I am sure that it would be offered on the 7 night, along with the 8 and 10 night Mexican Riviera cruises.

Not really. For current cruises where the Wonder is only doing the shorter cruises with 1 or no sea days, then there is not a character breakfast. Magic 7 night cruises there is one character breakfast that your family will be assigned.
(Not sure about longer cruises)

I believe is that when the Wonder starts doing longer cruises... they will be offering more of the "Magic" items that have been traditional on the Magic.
They are already doing that by offering Tween programs starting in December.
I but there will be at least 1 character breakfast that you will be assigned too.

Hello All,

My friends and I just switch our Alaska reservations to this when the KSF promotion was offered. We were able to get a nicer stateroom and more days for about the same price, and with both families living within 30 minutes from the port and the dates over our kids' Spring Break, we just couldn't pass it up. It'll be myself (40), DH (42) and DD (8) ages at the time of the cruise. I'll ask my friends to hop in and say hello too - it'll be her, her husband and two boys.

I'm sooo looking forward to be able to bring as much as we want without having to pay for the extra bags! And don't have to feel guilty about the FE gifts taking up a whole suitcase!

BTW - is there a list/roll call somewhere on this thread? Just curious how many Disers are on this cruise. On our last cruise in May, there were over 100 staterooms of Disers!

Welcome Connie :welcome::welcome:

We also just joined the group. The KSF deal was too good to pass up and the match with the kid's spring break was a bonus!! :cool1:

So I have been going back and forth the last day about changing our 2 Cat. 10 SPH cabins to a Cat. 4 and take part in the KSF promo. I just hate having to pay for the 2 kids as adults, when most of the rest of the ship is getting kids for free. Now if we did change to the Cat. 4, I would really, really want to try and upgrade at the port to a Cat. 3 (suite) I know we would never be able to afford a suite any other way.

So I would be taking a big gamble if we switched to a Cat. 4. There are only 8 Cat. 3's left on the ship. Those could easily sell out the next 9 months. I am just stuck and do not know what to do. One part of me is saying leave well enough alone and be happy with the 2 cabins and OBC we got. Another part of me is thinking we would possibly get a suite for just $1000 or so more than what we are currently paying. Again it is a total gamble.

I need to act fast if we are going to switch though. The KSF promo for the Cat. 4's is already at a GTY status.

Kristi- This is my thoughts:idea: Maybe it will help you out.
Which is cheaper? The KSF promotion or the OBC and 2 cabins? What is the price difference?

How much time our you going to spend in your cabin? On our last cruise(june) and our upcoming cruise(december) we have/had 2 cabins next door for our family of four. It was so nice to have 2 bathrooms and two showers plus all the extra space for our stuff( We can't seem to pack on the light side;)) and did I mention 2 tv's it was wonderful to say the least:cloud9: We didn't have to watch cartoons all the time. My girls are young so we didn't feel comfortable letting them sleep in a cabin without an adult(they didn't/don't connect) so when it was time to go to bed we slept 1A 1C in a cabin which was nice since that meant Cory and I had a queen size bed to our self. I have read that some family use baby monitors when there kids our in rooms next to each other.

On the other hand a cat 4 would mean a balcony and a possable upgrade to a suite( which is a gamble) Plus with only 8 cat 3 its not a huge amount of cabins to begin with but if your cat 4 is at a GTY satus you may have a chance at getting a free upgrade(I'de keep my fingers crossed for you)

I guess my advice (with your kids age)would be to keep the 2 cabins if your not going to spend much time in your cabin and want the extra space x 2,bathroom,shower and tv's. If you plan on eating in your room and spending a lot of time in it then go with the cat4.

HTH

P.S I wanted to add that even when Cory and I would just read or relax when the kids were in the clubs we would usually be on a deck,by the pool, or in one of the lounges.
Plus when we came back from the beaches it was so nice to have 2 showers available at the same time. It made getting ready so much easier and quicker!

Hello. My name is Miriam and my family and I will be on this cruise. My family consists of my Dh, myself, and my two kids. Isabella is 5 (she will be six when we go on the cruise) and C.J. (Christopher Jacob) is 1. His b-day is on July 18 so he will be 2 in April. We are very excited and can't wait. This is our first cruise ever. My main goal is to have C.J. potty trained so he can go to the kids club and in the main swimming pool.

Thanks Laura for your advice, I appreciate it. Those are all great points. I just rethink things way too much. I think I am going to stay with what I have. 2 rooms is very important to us. My DH might go nuts if we were all crammed in the Cat. 4. My kids (especially the 2 year old) is a really poor sleeper. Hoping things improve in the 9 months. Nighttime is stressful for us in hotels. At least with the connecting rooms we can close the door a little and not wake up the older 2 kids.

Hi Mirian!! Welcome to the cruise. I will add you to our roll call. I have a son that just turned 2 in May. That was my goal to have him potty trained and in the clubs too. I got him potty trained 2 days before his 2nd birthday. However we are having some accidents and he still needs my assistance. I hope to have that worked out in 9 months. For our sanity, we need to drop him off in the clubs. Nice to know there will be another little guy in the clubs with him.
