Hey everyone,

I found this website, www.survivethedrive.com ,that has a tv/vcr that can be safely secured to a van's center console.

Has anyone had any experience with this company? I tried to send them an email & they didn't reply (which makes me very nervous).

Update: apparently they are updating their website & it's temporarily unaccessable.

I don't have experience with them, but I know some people have recommended them before. you might do a search for "survive the drive".

Just an FYI, I looked into them, and it was 99 to rent for a week, I think, and you can buy one for around 250. I was just at Walmart last night and they had a 9" for 168. And at Target they have these triangle type things you can put the tv on. Just please make sure that they are securely fastened-in a wreck they could be really dangerous.

Good luck!

We were going to use them last year. I contacted them and was VERY pleased with my experience. About a month before our trip, we bought a new van with a tv/vcr combo built in, so we cancelled. But we did find that they were slow about answering email. I just called instead when I had a question. They answered immediately and knew what they were talking about. I checked them out as thoroughly as possible when I thought we were going to use them. (Emailed a few people who had used them and described the process on this board, checked out Better Business Bureau, etc.) They checked out nicely. I think it's a great idea.

Disynut - what exactly are those triangle things you were talking about at Target? We strap our TV/VCR to a milk crate, but it's not the greatest of fits, and I'd like something more designed for this purpose. Do you know its name, or if it's available on target.com so I can take a look at it?

Thanks!

I used them last December and was very happy. The shipping was very easy to send it back. I would use them again.

Were were going to rent from them but were able to buy the 4 inch one at Best Buy for $177. You can get the 5 inch one for around $250.

Wiggle,

You can buy the bag for the 9 inch tv and than secure it properly around your seat. The usually run around $50.00. You can also find the on ebay.

I've seen the triangle type thing at Target. It says several places on the box that it is not meant for use in a moving vehicle.

Well, I thought the triangle thing was for the tv/vcr for the auto, but maybe I am wrong. It was in the automotive section, but I haven't ever used it, I've just seen it, and I remember before when I was researching these that people on the boards had said they had used them.

Also, people do say to be sure that you have the tv very securely strapped in-in a wreck that tv could be a danger. A lot of people swear by the tv's in a bag-that might be safer. We broke down and bought the one that flips down from the ceiling, but it was expensive.

Sorry it took me so long to post back!!

Hope that helps-

I saw it in the automotive department, too. I looked for it after people had posted about it, because it didn't sound very safe to me. It's meant to position a TV so you can see it better, but it said on the box that it is not for use in a moving vehicle.

Wow. I can't believe they are that misleading! I guess anything to sell it...

Anyway... sorry!!
