I was discussing all things Disney (again) with my family last night. They are interested, but don't share my great love, or obsession as my DM puts it;)

The topic of TOT came up and my Dad started talking about how he worked on the motors and brakes for the ride.... WHAT??
I asked him to elaborate (he is a soft spoken guy with not much too say. I mean really, who could get a word in with myself and my mother around!). While he was working with GE Canada he was part of the team who built the motors for the TOT as well as the braking system. He explained to me that he also had to be part of the test team. Turns out that to ensure the braking system works beyond the shadow of a doubt they had the construction team take the first "Test rides". Hows that for incentive to get it right the first time!
I vaguely remember him taking a business trip to Florida in the early 90's. I can't believe he never told me this story. And he mentioned it like it was just another day at work.

I now think of my father as royalty!

Wow, great story. :goodvibes Sounds just like my Dad, a few ago he finally told us why we were at Disney for opening month back in Oct 71, turns out he worked for the company that supplied the pipe for all the plumbing. In return the company had given thier employees tickets to this "new" park. It just so happened my sister and I were having birthdays that month. I was 2 and Disney world is my first memory (Mickey Mouse Balloons in the sky). Funny how he never said anything before. pirate: Dads!
