We will also be on this cruise to Alaska! It's our first cruise and we are sooo excited! Disney vets but new to the DCL. Hope to see more people here soon! :cool1:
Hi Fig, nice to see your post. Let's hope that a bunch of others join us on this thread and we get to know each other before the cruise.

I have added a link to your thread on the main index page. Have a great cruise!
DH and I will be joining you on this cruise as well. We just cruised Alaska in August of this year and can't wait to go back!! We have cruised Disney previously as well.
Hi Tracey - nice to see you join the thread. we have never done an Alaska cruise and are looking forward to it. does Disney follow the same route as other Alaska cruises? What do you think of their route?

Just booked this cruise. My plans are up in the air at the moment as final date depends on the ABD dates as doing both...hopefully it all works out.

Hello. We booked this cruise a few weeks ago.
Where is everyone? :confused3
I wasn't on the boards much when the Alaska cruises were announced because I was too busy looking forward to the Christmas/New Year Celebrity cruise (big mistake, sorry Mickey :sad2:).
I've had a quick look back and gathered some people think the Alaska cruises are too expensive and/or are put off by the large deposit. But surely DCL haven't got it so wrong that they're not getting bookings?
We used DVC points so I'm not aware of the costs or deposit amounts. I too am wondering about the lack of posts. Maybe things will heat up as we get closer.
Tell me what happened with the Celebrity cruise.

Long story short, we didn't like our fellow passengers!
Ship was spotless, staff were excellent.
Food was okay - buffet was much better than DCL, main dining room not as good as DCL mainly because it was very inflexible which came as a bit of a shock.
We were concerned we might find Celebrity too 'snooty' for our taste. But our fellow passengers were far from the clientele featured in Celebrity's marketing. Large family groups (but not young children), pushy, unfriendly and inconsiderate of anyone other than themselves. Didn't speak or make eye contact; wouldn't move to let you into the elevator or out of it, or to let you pass on the stairs, or in the corridors; shoved their way in front of you to get at whatever they wanted in the buffet; rarely said please or thank you to the staff; demanded things from the staff even when they were already serving someone else.
And as for Celebrity supposedly being strict on their dress code, what a joke! Couldn't really tell formal nights from any other and although t-shirts were supposedly not allowed in the main dining room at any time, it appeared that Harley Davidson singlets (showing off a middle aged man's many tattoos) and similar attire were perfectly acceptable!
We're not the most sociable of people but our overwhelming impression of the cruise was 'unfriendly'. (Except the crew who were universally friendly - one of the sommeliers chatted to us every evening even though he knew we wouldn't buy any wine - in fact he never mentioned wine after the first night!) Maybe a holiday cruise was the wrong time to try another cruise line, but then again I would've thought the holiday season might make people more friendly not less so.
We've analysed every aspect of the cruise to see where we went so wrong (we did a lot of research before deciding to try Celebrity) and all we can come up with is that Disney cruisers are just much nicer people!
The cruise did serve its purpose in that we wanted to see whether it was cruising we like or only Disney cruising, and we certainly know the answer now. It was just far more disappointing than we expected.
sorry to hear about that. Was that your first Celebrity cruise?

Yes. We had only cruised Disney (3 times) and decided to try another cruise line. Did a lot of research and narrowed it down to 2 or 3 lines, then picked Celebrity for a particular itinerary (visiting Belize, where DH was once stationed).
From now on I think we'll just go wherever The Mouse decides to take us!

My mom and i are booked on the May 17,2011 cruise to Alaska. I am so excited. I have not cruised yet but am going on the Jan.21-23 2011 weekend getaway out of LA. Would love to get to know others on this cruise before we go. As for it not selling real fast we may be blessed as a small group.
Hello and welcome to the Dis Boards !!!! I see it is your first post. The forum can be allot of fun and I'm like you, I want to meet my fellow cruisers before we get on the boat.
We are traveling with a family of 5. We are coming from South Florida. We have been on a bunch of Disney Cruises already.
Hope to hear back from you soon.

Randy,
It was nice to hear from you. We are from Sacramento Ca. and am so excited about the cruise. I have started to look into different things to do because there is not much up on the website yet. My mom thinks I am a bit crazy to be planning so early but I just can't wait. :woohoo::woohoo: Kris
before our last cruise, I met a bunch of people on the Dis forum and we formed a group, made group T shirts and all got together for during the cruise. I still email a couple of them.

I would love to get to know others that are going. I heard, am not sure about this but the cost of passports may be going up as much as $60.00 each. If you don't have one now would be a great time, I was told that it could be in a couple of weeks.
I have learned that Pirates of the Caribbean will be opening on May 20th 2011, I think that it will be very cool to be able to watch the new Pirates on opening night out at sea on a Disney ship.
Hope that we get more people soon. Have a great day.
OK folks, our cruise is now one year away!

After being an occasional "lurker" on the boards for a year or two, I've finally registered so that I can join in the 365 day countdown to setting sail for Alaska!!!
The hubby and I have cruised DCL twice before (4-night Bahamas honeymoon and 7-nights Western Carribean a year later). We enjoyed ourselves soooo much that when we heard the Wonder was coming to our hometown Vancouver, we took it as a sign that we just have to cruise again! This time we don't have to fly all the way across the continent and... we're bringing our 9-month-old babe (I guess he'll be 21 months next year)!
We chose this sailing in hopes they'll do something extra special for the Pirates opening night... ;) Regardless, we're super excited to cruise with Mickey again!

Welcome to the cruise and the board. This will be a great trip. I have never been to Vancouver so I am looking forward to seeing your hometown a little before the cruise. We plan on getting in a day early so that we can explore.

This question comes from Kris, who asks: “I just learned that while I am on my Alaska cruise, Pirates 4 will be having its opening night. Does the ship normally do anything special for opening nights?”
Kris, thanks for your question and for reading Chip and Co. Disney will premier the movie at midnight the day it opens, so you’ll see the film a good twelve hours before people on land. It’s a festive but relaxed atmosphere. People bring snacks, blankets and pillows, since it’s so late at night. You can also purchase snacks outside the theater if you forget to bring yours. Since you’re seeing the film in a theater with fellow Disney fans, expect a fun, enthusiastic audience. Disney occasionally gives away some trinket or momento at premiers.
If you’d like a list of other movies playing while you’re on your cruise, call DCL at 888-325-2500 and press the number for reservations.
Hope this helps. Enjoy your cruise!
Have a Disney question? We have answers! Write us at Chip and Co. We answer every question.

This post seems to be very quiet. I just booked a whale watching with Harv and Marv on May 21st in Juneau. They use small boats, up to 6 passengers and have great reviews. We will be leaving the ship around 8:30. They do have an age limit unless you have a full boat, my mom and I enjoy kids so we let them know if a family wishes to go we would be more than willing to go with them to fill the numbers. If you interested they are on line.:cheer2:

This is a very quiet thread. Maybe there won't be a lot of people on the ship and we'll have it all to our selves. :-))
Where are people staying before and after the cruise? I thought I read on another thread about styaing at the pan pacific, but the prices seem high.

We are staying at the Best Western Downtown. They have a free shuttle to the docks in the morning and are close to the trolley pick up so that we can play a little before.
I also have been watching on how our ship is selling and it is a very quiet sail, I hope that it means that we will be getting great upgrades on our rooms.
The excursion list is now out on line and it has been fun to see what we can do.

I had a very hard time finding this thread. Maybe that is why not many people are on here. Is there another thread somewhere on disboards? Is there any way this thread can be made more visible?
kris3kid, where are you watching how the ship is selling? I cannot believe it wouldn't be sold out for such a new route for Disney. We have been waiting for 3 years for this trip. When Disney stopped offering Holland America through DVC, we figured that when the new ships were cruising, that they would add an Alaskan cruise.
I have to start looking at ressies for hotels. Does everyone have their plane ressies? Prices are atrocious from Philly.

My DW and I are also cruising with you.
We finally sat down yesterday and booked air and hotels for pre/post cruise. After watching airfare from Dallas, TX to Vancouver BC for months, we finally decided to book air to Seattle. Our roundtrip to Seattle total for both of us was less than the roundtrip to Vancouver for one person.
So, we are staying in Seattle for a couple of nights, then catching the Quickshuttle to Vancouver for a one night stay at the Pan Pacific before the cruise. Then we will stay one night in Seattle post cruise.
Overall, we save alot of money from the roundtrip airfare to Vancouver. And we get to explore Seattle and Vancouver.
See ya on the boards and onboard

Wow there are more people out there. I was told that to watch the selling of your ship to see when the cheapest stateroom sells. Like for the inside staterooms the cheapest is 11c which has 13 rooms in the block, this is normally the first to sell out and still has not. When the block sells out then it no longer is shown on the website. The 2 porthole block is 9d with 25 rooms also still open. The one large porthole cheapest is 9c with 86 rooms and then the cheapest verandah is 7a with 30 rooms also open. If you look at the cruises around us they have some sold out and not listed, also they have large cruise meets.
For anyone interested we are going on the Bering Sea tour in Ketchikan (if you book on your own you save $20.00 per person) then we are being picked up at the same dock right after to go on a seaplane trip right after. I found Seawind Aviation which is a family owned business and they are willing to come get us there. It would be fun to have a group all from the Disney ship. If you book before Jan 15 you save $30.00 per person. It is a small plane and we lad on a remote lake as well.

We're flying direct to Vancouver but after the cruise are doing a bit of a road trip and eventually flying home from Denver. Can't seem to rent a car from Vancouver to Denver so are planning to catch the Quickshuttle to Bellingham Airport where we can pick up a car.

I've been thinking for a while that the prices might start to go down after the paid in full date. Which would be irritating but we wanted to make sure we were on this cruise as it sails on our 25th wedding anniversary.

Hello - I'm on the May 31st cruise but wanted to pop on over here to give you guys a heads up. DCL just announced later this afternoon a Kids Sail Free promotion for certain Alaska dates depending upon the room booked. Dreams Unlimited just sent me this email and my total on the cruise is no q$2000.00+ cheaper than it was this morning.
I hope this helps - > http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/special-offers/kids-sail-free-alaska/

Okay, so you must be a level higher than I am. A few questions how is Palos for Brunch on the 19th? Is it sold out or are there still spaces, we really want to do that day. Also do you know the times for the mushers camp and dog sled adventure in Skagway? This is one that I want to book next week. I am getting so excited for the cruise. I did a two night cruise on the Wonder last month and can't wait to spend more time on the ship.
Is there anyone that wants to do the fish extenders?

Let's see...there are currently brunch slots available on the 19th.
For the Musher's Camp and Sled Dog Experience in Skagway, there's three slots: 7:45 AM - 11:15 AM, 11:45 AM - 3:15 PM, and 1:45 PM - 5:15 PM.

Yes from California. Big Disneyland fans and becoming Disney cruise fans quickly. It will be interesting to see how full our ship gets, seems to be a bad time for anyone in school with graduation, finals and all the end of school activities. Do you have a cabin number yet or are you a GTY. We are GTY.

We booked through DVC and are also GTY. We are hoping for an upgrade - fingers crossed! The timing of the cruise worked out for me because I finish up my master's degree the week before, and I decided to cruise instead of going to graduation. My traveling companion has a pretty open schedule while my husband does not so she could take off work and come with me.
My husband and I did the Alaskan cruise through Holland America four and half years ago and had a ton of fun. I'm very excited to go back!!!!

I'm still wondering if there's only the few of us on this cruise!
Has anyone else noticed that we're either stalking, or being stalked by, the Carnival Spirit? They set off from Seattle rather than Vancouver, but then every day of our cruise is the same port as ours, even Tracy Arm.

If anyone is looking to stay at the Pan Pacific Vancouver, the best price I could find (by a good margin and after much checking over a long period of time) was through skoosh dot com. I actually found them through trivago dot com, a comparison website. I've booked a Harbour/Mountain view room for less than I could find a City View anywhere else. And although it's a pre-pay rate, the cancellation policy is good whereas all the next best prices were non-refundable.

Yes, I did notice last week that we will be traveling with carnival on this trip, I just hope we are far enough away that we won't see them all the time. I have been watching and still none of the levels for the rooms have sold out and the board is still quiet. I am hoping on a great upgrade and a Palos Brunch. I can't wait to check in tomorrow night.

It seems that all the excursions are okay, if there are spicifics that you want let me know and I will look them up. I have done most of ours on our own, smaller groups and a little cheaper.
Depending on where you live you can check in at midnight, Eastern time, the day that booking opens for you, I live in Calif. so I was able to sign in at 9pm the night before. If you really want to make sure you get Palo do it first instead of your paperwork, just go to the planning not check-in.
Good luck and hope to get to know you before the cruise.

Thanks for the information. We are really looking forward to our first Disney cruise. Our first of many I am sure we have a young child who loves Disney.
We live in ca too. So I will try the night before like you suggested Can you give me any other suggestions to get the most out of the Disney experience.
My wife would like to know if the spa is worth it. Or do they charge too much like charging 4.50 for a soda at Disneyland :)
I am planning on booking a coupple of excursions on my own. I was really hoping to get a reservation at palo on may 18 since it is our anniversary Believe it or not I wrote a letter to Disney cruise and was told that palo was completely booked for the entire cruise.
What is the high tea? Am I really missing anything?
Thanks again

I just looked on lline and there are time slots for dinner at Palo's every night of the cruise. Brunch is offered on day 2,3 and 7 which are full days at sea, and they also still have room each of those days. My mom did Palo's on her last cruise for dinner and said that it was awesome and the service was the best. We decided to do a brunch because the room is set up where everyone has a view and we are doing the day of Tracy Arm where we want to watch the view anyways.
As for making the most of the trip, I have done alot of research before my first cruise and getting on early is a great thing and having lunch. The pool is a bit quieter at that time, but may be quiet the whole trip as we will have cool weather. I studied the deck plan alot and it sure helped when I got on so I did not always feel lost. I hear the tour of the ship helps as well.
Where in Cali. do you live? How old is your child?
Let me know if you need times or costs for the excursions and I can get them. I have not done a spa day myself so I am not sure on that one.

If you join entertainment.com, I believe that I paid $30.00 for the year there is a coupon for half off the quick Shuttle. You still have to pay the full amount up front and then when you do the trip give them the coupon and they will refund you back. Worth saving a little money. You may also find a coupon for somewhere to eat dinner in Seattle.

First fot the entertainment, you are not too late. After you join you print out the coupon within two weeks of using it. When you board the bus you give a copy of your reciept and the coupon to the driver and you will be refunded.
As for the fish extenders this is where the groups are made and put together. I am not sure how to make a list and add on to the list myself. I would love to be able to do it but just not sure how to put it together. If there are others who wish to do it I can ask the May 3rd cruise how to do the list, they have alot of different groups and activities planned so I am sure that I could get help with it. Lets see who is interested.

I just looked on my entertainment account and the coupon is good for half off for two people fro the Quick Shuttle. They can only be printed within two weeks of using and must be given to the driver with your confermation number. We have reservations on the 9:15 shuttle on May 24 back to seattle. I also checked for coupons for restaurants and there are several on the site, it may be worth the savings.

Glad to see there are others going on this cruise. I just found the Disney discussion board. Been on Cruise Critic and only one other couple had said they were on this cruise. We are a half-retired couple from Tampa, Florida area going on our 3rd Disney cruise. We will be flying into Vancouver (did get a pretty good price on American Airlines, a Tuesday sale) Staying at the Best Western on Monday night then at a time share for a couple on nights after the cruise. Hope to catch up with some of you. We would love to do the Fish Extenders also. Will get my daughter to make us some.

Hello fellow cruisers!! My mom (MomofCTurp), DH and I booked this cruise about a week ago while we were on the 3 Day sailing aboard the Disney Dream (March 10-13), although we have been planning on going on this cruise for the past year or so (so needless to say- we have been lurking on this cruise meet thread).
While on our March 10th Dream cruise, we participated in our very first FE gift exchange, and had a blast! It was always so exciting to come back to our stateroom and find a little something from a fellow DISer in our fish extender.
My husband (nick.turpchinoff) is keeping a list of everyone who is interested in participating in the FE for our May 17th Alaskan Disney Cruise!!
All he needs is the names and ages of the guests in your party, and stateroom number.
And last but not least, do you think that we need to decide on a cut off date for joining the FE, so everyone can be well prepared for our FE gift exchange?

My wife and I are booked as well. She is from Evansville.
This is going to be our 4th Disney Cruise and 3rd on the Wonder. How was the dream? We are booked for the 5 day cruise on the Dream in January. We can't wait.
We will usually found at the Cadillace lounge before and after dinner.

Fish Exchange:
Here is a thread on an overview of what an Fish Exchange (or "FE") is all about:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1219607
By joining the FE, you will give a gift/note/something to another cabin (one gift per cabin or one gift to each member in the cabin, it's totally your choice)
March 10-13th we went on the Dream and participated in an FE. We had made small gift bags filled with a little bit of candy. Then we wrote names on Mickey heads and attached them to the bags. We made one for everyone that participated. Others made magnets that were Disney Dream themed, or gave other small items. It's totally up to you what to give.
The other part of the Fish Exchange is having a "Fish Extender". It could be small, or large. This is what the other cabins will put your gifts into. The thread above has examples of what they are. Some make them and some buy off eBay [click here (http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=Fish+Extender&_sacat=See-All-Categories)]. My MIL made ours!
Also, a lot of DISers find a place to meet on the first day. I would be willing to plan a time and place for us to meet! Let me know what you all think about meeting some where.
Let me know if you have any questions! :cool1:

Okay I am going to do it. My mom is not too sure but it is a small group and I will talk her into it, haha. We got our cabin number today it is 7623, we were looking for a good upgrade because the price went down so much but I guess the little upgrade will be fine. It is Kris and Jackie both adults. It looks like we are two doors from eachother. We are going to try and get an at port upgrade but not sure if that will happen or not, it depends on what the cost is at the time if it is worth it or not. I am planning on booking another cruise while I am on the ship so I need to budget for that as well. K

Does anyone have any idea how full the ship will be on this cruise? Does anyone know if they are doing a Pirate night?
I did a search on the Disney Cruise website. There seem to be staterooms available for "Inside Staterooms", "Oceanview Staterooms", "Staterooms with Verandas" and "Concierge with Veranda" and there were many Categories still available for each type of stateroom. I think it would be safe to say that there still is room in any category, but it does seem to be going fast. This could be a pretty full cruise come the end of April.
Yes, there will be Pirate Night! After calling DCL and inquiring about this, they told my DW and I that it will be on night five (5).
Here are other nights:
Night 2: Formal Night (Golden Mickeys)
Night 5: Pirate Night
Night 6: Semi Formal Night
Don't forget: that Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will Premier while we are on the ship Friday morning at 12:01AM. A DCL representative has confirmed this with us when we called to ask questions regarding our cruise.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask us! :thumbsup2

We are pretty tight on cash but we booked the IGT cat because after thinking about it I decide that I have not idea when I'll get to go on a trip to Alaska again.
We are really looking forward to it!!!

Welcome to the boards and the Alaska cruise.
I know that the only catagory that has sold out as of this morning is 9D which is the cheapest window room. For four people in a room 9D-9A (all windows) and 7A (cheapest verandah)are all sold, but for two people they are open. I am not sure how that works out. All the others still have space. But also the 9D that is sold out has only 25 rooms in that catagory which is a small number.
I am surprised that for our sailing they would not do the pirate party on the night of the pirate movie.
Do we know the other movies yet?
I am so glad this board is picking up it has been a long quiet wait.

The issue with 4 in a room vs 2 in a room and what is available is that the muster station are fairly full so DCL limits those rooms to smaller parties only. We based our decision to sail on the 17th rather then the 31 on the fact that the new Pirate movie will premier at sea.
This will be my DW's 2nd Disney Cruise and my 9th. The Magic is my favorite of the 2 classics but that's because I've sailed on her more.
We will be staying in Vancouver Monday and possibly Sunday night as well.:yay:

I was just thinking that how our sailing does not have a nick name like a lot of other sailings. Since we will be on the Pirates 4 cruise then how about naming our cruise

Well, we are flying out of Atlanta on Sunday using buddy passes so I'm not going to book a room until last minute. I know that some on the others on this forum are going to be staying at the Best Western near the pier. Maybe one of them can let us know which one and how much. Hotwire works great if you don't mind not knowing 100% which hotel you will get. There is a forum site call bidderbidding.com I believe and it we help give you an idea of what you might get. You can save about 75% on the 5-star hotels.

Just got off the phone with DCL.
I wanted to confirm once again with another Cast Member what is set for each night.
Here is what I was told:
Day 2: 18th: At Sea
Formal Night (Golden Mickeys)
Day 5: May 21st: Juneau, AK
Pirate Night
Day 6: May 22nd: Ketchikan, AK
Semi Formal Night
All other nights are "cruise casual".
About Pirate Night: I mentioned how Pirate Night is set for Saturday night. I mentioned to the CM that Pirate night should be on Friday, or as my wife had mentioned, on Thursday night. Since the movie debuts at 12:01AM on Friday! However, the CM told me that Disney is known to move Pirate Night based on an event happening, like the movie debut.

hey everyone,
I sent a message to a mod to see if we can have the threads title edited.
Also I'm think about designing a shirt for my DW and myself. It would be an iron on with a navy blue long sleeve shirt form hobby lobby.
I figured navy because that the main color of the Wonder. If anyone didn't know that ship is actually a really dark navy blue, red, white, and yellow.
Let me know if you're interested and I'll send the photoshop file to who ever wants it.

Hello Everyone!
We booked about 2 months ago and I just found all of you! This is our first Disney Cruise, but I have a feeling it will not be our last. I am cruising with my husband, and 2 boys, ages 22 months and almost 3. Anyone else out there traveling with small children? I have learned so much on this thread, and now am more excited then ever!
I just got my room assignment 3 days ago, we were on a guarantee, and got moved from a cat 9c to a 5a, so the cruise must not be full.
Cant wait to see you all!
We just moved from a cat 9 to a 6. There are lots of rooms open. DCL is now offering restricted reservation for verandah rooms for only 280 more than a ocean view. We have been upgraded before the week of the cruise so you still never know.
Surprised the packets still haven't come.
Nick - sorry, we still haven't gotten into the FE festivities. We usually veg out on these cruises.
Does anyone know if they are doing a high tea at all or if it is really just sold out?

I am cruising with my husband, and 2 boys, ages 22 months and almost 3. Anyone else out there traveling with small children? I have learned so much on this thread, and now am more excited then ever!
I just got my room assignment 3 days ago, we were on a guarantee, and got moved from a cat 9c to a 5a, so the cruise must not be full.
Cant wait to see you all!

hey everyone,
I sent a message to a mod to see if we can have the threads title edited.

I'll begin working on it later today... if anyone has any suggestions let me know. I'm thinking a small mickey pirate head on the maybe with a name on it and then somehow having the wonder and some snowcapped mountains around it. Maybe add a pirate flag to the ship.
I would love to see it

Hello everyone,
My husband and I are booked on this cruise - we are celebrating our 30th Wedding Anniversary (although by the time we sail we will be married 31.5 years - our daughter got married last year, took us this long to save up!). We are looking forward to a wonderful trip. The only other cruise we have been on was for our honeymoon - we sailed to Bermuda!
We are from the Philadelphia area, we are flying out to Vancouver on Sunday 15th, sightseeing for a day or so, then staying overnight in Vancouver when we return. Everything is booked except our hotel in Vancouver, guess I need to get on that! I haven't had time to read the whole thread yet, how many are we so far? I suspect the ship will not be full, since it is early in the season. I am also hoping it will not be too cold!
I'm looking forward to trading tips and sharing plans!

hey, I've been busy lately but I will get to you this week. The mickey head would go on the front and either of the wonder pics would go on the back of the shirt. We are still trying to decide want color shirt would look the best. Any opinions? You would have to print the pics on iron-on paper and transfer it to a shirt. PM me with your names and email. Plus I need to you if you have a way to print the images in mirror mode. If not I will have to to edit then prior to sending them to you.
@Nick - We've never done the FE before and are thinking about doing it. I'll let you know.

I've responded to you, but don't have enough posts to be able to PM yet! Have to work on that later today! I have the ability to mirror print, no problem. I have made shirts for our family events before, so I am familiar with what has to happen.
As for shirt colors, what are the choices? Given your designs, I think they would show up best on white or heather. I would be interested inwhat others think, though.
Thanks!

I would love to do the shirt, I will check with my mom and ask her. Kris cabin7623. If you decide to do the shirts on colored shirts make sure you get the iron-on sheets for dark colors. I did some for the kids on my "Cruise to Neverland" on white they were great then tried on red and it did not look good because I had the wrong sheets. Also watch JoAnns craft store the shirts go on sale every few weeks. Thanks for doing this, it is alot work.

We went on the Dream back in March and did this with two other families. It was wonderful because we had something in common -- the DIS! We had a splendid time and didn't have to worry about who we would have as table mates! We also requested a server / assistant server on the Dream -- and got them! (Jayson and Adriana -- amazing team!) If anyone knows a great server on the Wonder, please speak up and let me know so that we can request them!

Skagway we are doing the summer camp dog sled with Disney
Juneau we are whale watching with Harv and Marv and the Mount Roberts Tram
Ketchikan we are doing the Bering Sea tour and then being picked up at the dock by Seawind Aviation for a float plane trip both we booked on our own.

Disneycruznrn: We are still going back and forth about where to stay! We are flying in on the Sunday before and hope to do a little sightseeing on Monday. On the flip side, we are not getting back to the port early enough to fly out the day we dock, so we are staying over near the airport that night to fly out early the next morning.
This Tuesday sailing is my only complaint - it means giving up 3 more vacation days than a Saturday to Saturday or Sunday to Sunday cruise! But, I've never been to western Canada, so I am looking at it as an opportunity. We are cruising to celebrate our 30th anniversary, so we are indulging ourselves with a more expensive cabin and hotels than we otherwise would get!
I'm looking forward to meeting everyone!!pirate:

I kind of like the Tuesday sailing because I work everyother Friday/Saturday nights and this way I so I can leave on Monday and only have to take one week end (which is my week-end off).

Yes they do provide free transportation to the port, have you done your online check in? We picked the first time slot of 10:30 for our port arrival time. We were goiong to ask about upgrades as well it all depends on the cost of them. Have you ever done a port upgrade and know the average cost?

For those that want to do the shirts for this cruise, it looks like white t-shirts will work the best. It will be your choice if you want a long sleeves or not.

For our last cruise on the Dream on March 10-13, we gave each person a little goody bag of candy and each room received a mixed CD of tropical music along with some Disney classic songs. The CD cover had the DCL logo with the cruise date and on the back was the list of songs and who created the CD.
We choose to do something for the whole stateroom to share AND a personalized goody bag of candy for each individual person in the stateroom. Now, it's totally up to you if you give per stateroom, per person, or both. Kids definitely like getting their own little gift.
As for when you distribute the FE gifts, is totally up to you. It's really fun to come back to your stateroom to find that surprise in your Fish Extender! We had noticed on our last cruise that others were waiting a little bit later because several other FE participants were giving our their gift that day, so they waited until the next day. I would suggest not the last night as baggage will needed to be set out by 10:30. We did ours on day 2.
We just felt crafty, generous, and generally excited about our cruise on the Dream! We even decorated our stateroom door! And will be doing the same again on the Wonder cruise! It's so much fun!
Deanna, if you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

We did a Night cap theme since we were on the Dream. We went to Jo Ann Fabrics and bought the foamy sheets. We printed out the Sorcerer hat a our template and conformed it to look like a sleep cap for the "Dream". You can put in requests and the DIS member creates new ones, however, the night cap still has not been got to yet.
They are fun to do! I believe we were the only cabin on our Dream cruise that had actually done one of these. Maybe they'll be others for our Alaska cruise.

I have saved off a number of these from that thread, they look like so much fun to do!! I hope I have enough time to actually make them! In reading some of the other threads about door decor, I noticed that some have had trouble with their door decorations and Fish Extenders being tampered with or stolen. Have those of you experienced sailors had this happen or know of this? :confused3
I'm wondering if it's related to idle young people who, while generally well behaved, sometimes get bad ideas and act on them without thinking! I'm hoping that the timing of our sailing means that most teens are still in school. (I love the kids, not trying to bad mouth them, but I'd hate for anyone to lose something they've worked hard on!!) :headache:
It won't stop me from decorating my door, but it will stop me from putting anything irreplaceable or valuable out there! That stuff will go on our side of the door! :thumbsup2

Hi there!
I'm Cordelia's mom and the mom who is blessed to be able to call Nick my new son, now that they are happily married! :bride: I am so glad to be going on this cruise as well!
We found the Mickey Ears for the door number very easy to make. Once we had the design cut out of paper, it only took one short evening to trace it and cut it out of the foamie sheets and, using a glue stick, glue the pieces together. As Nick said, we altered the Sorcerer Hat to make it a Sleep Hat, but it really didn't add much time at all!
To protect items from being stolen, we put our names on all our items. We also personalized the mickey balloons and labeled everything. To keep our Fish Extender from 'wandering off,' I used fabric paint and wrote our names on each pocket. And lastly, we used an electrical tie to firmly attach the Fish Extender to the metal fish hanger outside the door. There were quite a few FE's on our cruise and I didn't hear of any of them disappearing! We really enjoyed our venture around the decks of the Dream delivering our FE gifts and spent lots of time enjoying the ways others decorated their doors too!
Have fun with it and if you have any other questions, just let us know!

Our fantasy cruise is on June 23. Will you be going on the Fantasy in June as well?
The fifteen year old in me remembers Common Grounds fondly. However, I really prefer the Cove Cafe. My husband and I play Scrabble in there for hours and hours and hours.

Who does anyone recommend for trip insurance? I know it is not always advised, but we think we want to purchase just in case. It was offered from my booking agent for around 60 dollars per person and our son was free. Is this reasonable?
Thank you

I Didn't get trip insurance this time since Canada and the US are not Mexico or the carribean. If you have fly home on a medical emergency or get treatment it should be very easy.
The one thing to note isnif Disney loses your luggage they limit liability. The insurance bridges that. So in my head the real risk is lost luggage.
I got it when we went to the Carribean and Mexican Riveriera. Will get it again when we to the double dip cruise in Jamuary on e Dream.
My Mom twisted her ankle on the Wonder in 09. It cost about 250 to see the ship doc and get an X-ray.

I can do that, the DISers who responded back with a celebration (completing masters degree, birthday, etc) will need to respond back with who is celebrating the event. Thanks!

We are sailing to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary, and Steve specifically asked to have a verandah so we could sit on it and enjoy the scenery. I am so thankful we were able to change!

Yes, there should be a cut off date for the FE. It gives everyone an official final count and time to finish up FE gifts before they take off. Everyone has different departure times from their respective cities, some will leave sooner than others. By setting a date, it will make sure everyone has sufficient time to complete their FE gifts.
What does everyone think of May 1st by 11:59:59 EST? That allows 16 days to complete all FE gifts. Too soon or too late? Your opinions, please!

While doing some research online for the cruise, I came across a book that is just awesome. I ordered it from Amazon and just received it yesterday (in 3 days by normal shipping). The name of the book is "The Alaska Cruise Handbook. A Mile-by-Mile Guide" by Joe Upton. It includes a 22"x34" illustrated map, with easy to use navigation system for following the ship's progress (all words from the cover). It was printed in 2007, this one is 2008 edition, it has 286 pages, tons of beautiful colored pictures and information I have not seen anywhere else. New it is about $13 but I got a used one (looks in perfect condition to me) for $6.82!!! I don't think you will be disappointed if you get one.

I believe it was about two weeks before our cruise.
I've read somewhere they do dining assignments a week before.
Just call DCL and request the server by name (and country helps as well).
We had requested Jayson/Adriana as we heard they were a great team.
Our first night after arriving at our table, we were ecstatic to see them! :cool1:

There are some stylistic differences. The bow of the Disney Magic has Sorcerer Mickey; the bow of the Disney Wonder has Steamboat Willie. The stern of the Disney Magic has Goofy painting, while Donald Duck and his nephew Huey are painting the stern of the Disney Wonder. The interior of the Disney Magic is art deco, characterized by slender forms, straight lines and a sleekness that expresses modern technology. The interior of the Disney Wonder is art nouveau, characterized by an "art from nature" feel, with whimsical, swirling wave designs. And the statues in each lobby are different: Helmsman Mickey in the Disney Magic and Ariel from Disney's The Little Mermaid in the Disney Wonder.
The Magic has Beat Street and the Wonder has Route 66. The Wonder also has Outlook Cafe.

Besides the theming (art deco or nuvo) I don't think the magic has the expanded quiet cove bar. They expanded to the second floor on the wonder. Moved the tween area to deck 2. The adult areas are basically the same with different names and decor. Same thing though. They even rearranged the Cadillac lounge to match sessions with the piano in the back. On has funnel vision (magic) one has aerial vision but are the same thing. Believe it or not they charge different prices for wifi though.
Anyone think of anything else?

Also, is anyone in this group scheduled for Main Dining? We are, and I am wondering if we will miss out by having the earlier seating? We find ourselves running out of steam earlier than we used to (before we turned 50!) (Oh, heck, before we turned 30!) :rotfl: I know we will be able to see all the shows, etc., just don't want to miss out on anything else.
We have an excursion one evening til 6. Will we be able to still go to dinner that night, or should we expect to eat elsewhere? :upsidedow
I've been ordering supplies and goodies for our FE gifts, they have been arriving. I have to confess, I am having a hard time focusing at work! I'd rather think about our upcoming trip! Good thing this is a bit of a slow time for me in the office.......:cool1:

I am booked on the Aug 30th sailing, but can't resist the IGT price and might switch to this one and save $750 - I live locally and its easy for us to come hop the ship - I am seriously thinking about it - only thing is my daughter is in high school and not sure I want to pull her, but it does land on our long weekend, so its easier to pull her. Also I have one of my fave rooms booked on our Aug 30th, so have to decide if I want to give that up and have no control and possibly be in on the deck 2 dungeon....

My mom and I have the late dinning. There are a few excursions that we wanted to make sure and have the time for.
The trip seems so close yet so far away. I have started to gather my odd things for the trip and can't wait to begin to pack.
My mom and I give out tip cards for people that help along the way and for tipping. We got most of them made, we ended up making 15 of them. We were surprised how many that we needed for the trip. It is nice to have that done and set aside for packing. Now it is time to put the fish extender things together and get them ready for packing.

Promenade lounge before muster drill. I saw it in one of the threads. Its a good spot to meet and a great time for people to hand off any room number changes if you happen to have one (if you upgrade at the port or something).
I think I have checked my reservation 40 times in 2 days hoping to see a stateroom number -I know it probably would not go on during a weekend, and more likely a weekday, but I can't stop peeking and hoping!
I guess my docs might show up this week via courier!

I just wanted to pop up and introduce myself and say that I am excited to be joining all of you on the Wonder in Alaska on the May 17th sailing. :cool1: DH and I decided last night to book and we are excited! This trip is a big celebration for us and we are really looking forward to it! :cheer2:
We sailed in November on the Wonder in the Bahamas pirate: and cannot wait to get back onboard "our" ship. We LOVED it so much for the four night cruise - here's to seven beautiful nights with her in Alaska!

Welcome!!! Did you book one of the gty specials? I booked the interior gty special on Friday. I was booked to sail on Aug 30th, but the deal for this one saved me lots of money, and we live 30 mins from the port, so its very easy and doabole for us.
I am anxiously awaiting our stateroom number - if you are gty, please post when you get one! You should join in on the FE! We don't have a huge group and could use a few more!

when do you typically find out your room number with the gty?

I found out in about 3 days from booking... got a 10c. I plan on trying to get moved forward at the port. I don't mind the 10c room but would prefer a 10a on deck 7

I thought the transfers were pretty pricey. What hotel are you at littleprince?
No room # for me yet! I am hoping for deck 5-6-7. We had deck 5, room 5131, on our last cruise and loved the location. I like aft - if I get aft I will be happy!

Dreams,
My wife and I were on the same cruise back in November! We were on our Honeymoon at the time and you had asked us if we were on the DIS. Hope you remember us! Glad to have you on board for the AK cruise!

Yes, The Promenade Lounge is where we will meet at!
We still need to come to a census of an exact time to meet at.
It really should be before Sail Away, because after that it gets too busy.
I did see someone had already suggested a time. Anyone else?

Editing to add - I have NEVER noticed that little mini-buffet in the corner there until I saw this photo! lol
