View Full Version : Kim & Joe's April 2010 Wedding

Hi Disney Brides!!
I began this journal in September and kind of abandoned it. I'm back now, though, to kind of show everyone how all my little "home projects" and decisions went!
About Me and Joe!
We met at a kegger in college and have been together ever since!! We met when we were both 19, and now we are 23 and it’s been an awesome period of our lives where we were able to experience college together and now we’re in the real world and own a condo and a dog and work (yay.). We both like fitness type stuff and tv (It's always sunny..., and Lost!) I’m a full time graduate student as well as work full time so I love Disney weddings because they seem to do all of the hard work for you!! Everything else will be fun and easy (like the dress). Joe managed to find this message board when I first made it, so if he does it again, then “hi joe! Stop reading this, its girl stuff!”
The Proposal
I knew it was coming because I was there when he bought the ring. I also told some people that he bought one, which was not a good idea because they told more people and then I had family calling me etc to congratulate me and ask me detailed questions when I wasn’t even engaged yet!
Well we ended up returning the ring because the jewelers were really shady and not truthful (Shaws Jewelers), and we still hadn’t even received the ring and it had been more than a month! It was just a solid band and solitaire round cut diamond, but they said it wouldn’t be done until sometime in November. Apparently, I’m the Bridezilla type of person :chewy: and dumped Shaw’s and found a better ring with Joe. (This one is arriving next week :lovestruck:)
That same night I was pretty bummed because I felt stupid that everyone already knew about the situation, and we didn’t even have a ring, and he didn’t even propose yet. Then, I went to the bathroom and saw that he had painted “will you marry me?” on the wall with purple paint! Well, Lilac paint. Its probably an important detail at this point to tell you that we were planning on repainting the bathroom.
The Wedding
After telling Joe’s family about the proposal, I didn’t seem to get a good vibe about the Disney wedding. I began to assume it just wasn’t going to happen because I would feel guilty if some people couldn’t attend because of the economy or not getting time off work etc… And I’m the type of person who I WANT them to be there, so if they can’t go that would make me sad as well.
A few days later, though it seemed to turn a little sunnier. I think everyone talked about it and thought it over and began to get excited about the whole aspect of it!
I’m penciled in for April 10, 2010 at Seabreeze. :dogdance: I’m thinking about staying at the Grand Floridian since I wont be able to have my wedding at the wedding pavilion.
Where I’m at now
Does anyone have any pets? Did you just leave your pet at a pet boarding place at home, or what did you do? I just rescued mine last month, and even though April is a ways away, I’m afraid that she’ll feel like she was given up again. :guilty:
Well that's all!

This should help you - I have just send my LOA for my April Escape wedding. Disney allow you to have up to 25 guests but at an additional charge on the package of $500 for 21 -25 guests.
Hope that helps! Happy Planning! :goodvibes

You two are such an adorable couple! I like both of those dresses. Have you tried any on? I picked out a lot I liked from pictures and when I went to try them on, I ended up liking other ones instead. They totally look different when they are on you, but that could just be me.
I also found one I liked at Davids Bridal and then my dad found one in my size on Craig's List. I got it plus a $200 veil for less than half the price! I got an awesome deal!
Can't wait to hear more details. Good luck with the planning!:goodvibes

Princess22, I really liked your idea about trying on dresses and then finding the same dress for cheaper somewhere else!
<<Edited... moved picture to end>>
I went to a new store today at my local mall that specializes in prom and homecoming dresses. I know, it's a little corny getting a homecoming dress as a wedding dress.. but seriously, they are almost the same exact thing except for cheaper!! Luckily, I still fit into Juniors size clothing so it's perfect. I'm going to wait until next week when our local high school's homecoming is over and then shop for clearance or wait for them to have more in stock :dance3:

The Dress
Happy Columbus Day everyone! I have off of work today :woohoo: Since my grad classes are starting up next week and I'll be pissy and stressed, I went out and bought a wedding dress! There are a few alterations that I need to take on it, but here it is! Check this out.. it was only $129.00 ! Now I get more money to spend on other things.

Boardwalk_Bride.. you are totally right (I hope). After I wrote that post, I looked around and figured out what happened. Previously, on the old disney website, if you did some digging, it stated that AP were included; however, on the new site it doesn't say anything! Apparently, they are still included and it just supposed to be a surprise.
Thanks for everyone's kind words about the dress!!
Another update: I got my boss' approval for the week off in April for the wedding!! Not that she would have declined my request.. I just wanted to tell her about it! :lmao:

Congrats!!!
Love the dog, the ring and the dress!
We have had our rescue dog now for a little over a year and we got her in May and then took a trip (to WDW) for 9 nights to WDW in Sept. (only 4 months after we got her!).
We have a regular dog walker who walks her everyday, so when we are away, she is also our pet-sitter (we have a cat and a kitten too).
I think if you can find someone who your pup can get to know well before you leave, it would help. Maybe check out some local dog walking businesses, shop around etc. and have them come like once a week to walk your pup.
I don't like the idea of kennels, but I know lots of people use them. I just think even though you're gone, a pet is going to feel better in their own home than in a strange place....
Looking forward to hearing more of your plans! I was an "Escape" bride too! :goodvibes

:cool1: Yayy for the weekend! My two classes begin on Monday so I will probably just stay in my sweats all weekend and nap and/or prepare for school! Work has been a little stressful, so hopefully I'll keep on top of school. Anyone else here work in Procurement/Contract Management? That's not what I'm doing now... but that's the degree I'm getting.
Hotel Booked!
This week has been really good as far as Disney stuff goes! I booked my hotel stay! I was planning on 6, but then DM gave me her credit card information and I ended up booking an 8 night/9 day trip!!! That's pretty long considering DF doesn't get any paid time off.. heh heh.. its worth it. Anyway, I'm staying at the Caribbean resort. I was thinking about spending 4 nights at the pop century resort, and then going to the boardwalk for a couple of days, but I decided that I don't want to worry about packing up and moving resorts :yay: I've never even seen the Caribbean resort before! It should be fun.
Hey, does anyone know how close the caribbean hotel is to the boardwalk? Is it walkable? Like could I walk to my DM's room at the boardwalk the morning of the wedding to get ready there?
Sooo because I have the hotel room booked, I filled out the questionnaire and gave it to Pam at Disney, and she will e-mail me the Contract on Monday!
The ceremony is April 10, 2010 at 10AM!
Pre-Wedding "Send Off" party?
So I was thinking about having a party at a local bowling alley the week before I leave for the wedding. Yummy food, fun & games, lots of beer... pretty awesome right? Well I tried to talk to the bowling alley manager and he sounded like he was a few pieces missing from the puzzle so I might wait a few months closer to March before I try and ask them how they do parties... :rotfl:
Well in the next two weeks I should have the contract set, and I think I will order the save the dates!! :) I'll post as soon as I look at save the dates to see which ones I should choose.. Also keep your fingers crossed! My DF will find out in the next week or two whether he will become a Pilates Coordinator at his job! :thumbsup2

I think a bowling alley party is a fun idea! I'm not sure what you meant by your comment about the manager: did you feel he wasn't getting what you wanted to do, or that you didn't have enough details yet (or both)?

Sounds like your plans are really moving along now.
I wanted to answer your question about the walking to the Boardwalk from Caribbean Beach. They are not connected and would be a pretty far walk even if there were pathways so you would need to drive to get there.

Well he didn't know how much things cost, of how many people certain platters and trays fed, and how long i could reserve certain places. He said that reserving for a March party that this is far too ahead of time and he didn't understand that I was just trying to get price quotes and information so that I can at least fit it in my budget, otherwise I may not have enough money by time spring comes around! Not a big deal, though, I will probably change my mind by time march comes around anyway ;)

Thanks girl. I kind of thought that, especially since the Caribbean resort is so huge. Couldn't help but try!

Check it out, dudettes! I got my shoes today and a headpiece!
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4066/4333611824_80650b2e5a.jpg
Okay these are the shoes! Got them from Off Broadway.. like $40. If you see the clear plastic things in the shoes, those aren't part of the shoes, they're just part of the packaging. They are the PERFECT height too! and just cute enough
<<edited, moved picture to end... ended up not using this headpiece anyway>>
And this is the headpiece! About $25! I don't officially have it yet, I put a bid on it on Ebay, but even if I don't win it, it isn't a big deal because the person constantly puts them up for sale. They're made with the bride in mind as well, and not the flower girl, so it will fit me and look aweeesome.
I also bought all of my wedding makeup from my Aunt who sells Avon. Usually I don't wear any makeup except mascara. I got Mineral blush, eye shadow, foundation. Nice eyeliner, and lip gel all for $35. Its not really "wedding" makeup.. i should say that i'm going to begin wearing it regularly and just use the same stuff for my wedding! :) that way I can take it out of my "wedding" budget instead of my "fun/weekend/beer budget":cloud9::cloud9:
This thing is ROLLING! I'll probably focus on my DF's outfit now, since i'm pretty set!

Everything looks so wonderful, your ring and dress are gorgeous. I can't wait to go dress shopping myself. Also, I must say I can relate totally to your PJ so far. My DF and I just got engaged on October 9th, and are hoping to get married at SBP on April 16, 2010. I am planning to call Disney tomorrow to see if that is an option, but first I need to clear the date with my parents before I call.
DF and I have 3 rescue dogs, we have had them now for about 4 years but have always had mine, or his parents watch them when we go out of town. For the wedding we will have to make other arangements, and it makes both of us nervous.
Good Luck with everything, I look forward to reading more! :cheer2:

It was e-mailed to me! Yayyy. I'll probably have it signed and mail it back on Monday.
Other stuff
I forgot if I posted this earlier, but I decided not to do any Save the Dates. I figured that as soon as I would get those out, I would turn around and have the invitations out anyway a month later (since I want to get the invitations out as early as possible)
As weird as this sounds, I was making plans to finally go out and buy a long overdue ironing board over the weekend. My neighbor is moving out, and throwing out all of their stuff, so I got a free ironing board from them! yayy. cha-ching i love good (free) deals
Lastlyyyyyy... :wizard: I might change my hotel reservation!!! My DM mentioned maybe paying for 8 night stay at Boardwalk on the concierge level!! It hasn't happened yet, but I can't believe that I'm moving up from the Caribbean resort to Boardwalk AND getting the concierge! I feel like princess:
Edit: I almost forgot! I was looking at the my engagement ring manufacturer's website today to find Joe a wedding band, and I saw that they increased the price of my ring by over 20%! It's amazing how much better the ring seems after knowing that it is being sold for more money now!! Just kidding, I would love it either way. On the topic, though, I will probably buy Joe's band sometime this week and have that pic up soon ;) I'm going to give it to him to wear before the wedding, because he wants to wear it. And I like the idea of him wearing it! hehe

Yah the pictures kind of makes it look like I have toilet paper on my head. I slept on the idea of it, and the next day I tried out new hairstyles, and it actually looks pretty good with a curly up-do, so I am feeling pretty good about it now.
I love your dress!! Where did you get it?
Thanks! I got it at some shop (i don't think its a chain) called Glory at my local mall that mainly sells prom/homecoming/ball dresses.
Updates
So, I have not had any trick or treaters (wahhhh!), so I have some time to sit down and make some updates! I was seaweed for work yesterday, and a panda tonight.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3492/4061842369_c9da4e642c_m.jpg
Okay so Joe got his suit in yesterday and it is WAY SMALL, i mean TINY. It was actually really funny to see him put on skin tight shiny pants. Since the seller lives in Korea and it would cost me like $30-$40 to ship it back, and then spend that AGAIN to get a replacement shipped to me, I just bought an entirely new one for $90. I am not sure if I am too smart for purchasing a suit that doesn't fit.. and then instead of going to an actual store I'm doing the same thing all over again. I am pretty sure that the next one will fit. I put the first (tiny) suit on craigslist so i'll see if anyone is interested. :cutie:
I also got my wedding planner (Amy). She seems really accommodating. We have a little phone thing next week. I've been trying to search through posts for cute rhymes that people put on their invitations because I had seen some before, but then I can't find it again. I'm going to start making those as soon as I can (and then make the reception cards later when I actually know what I'm doing for reception!)
So some sad news, my grandma seems to be going downhill really fast. It seems like every few weeks she has another health problem, and it seems like she can't even bend over without passing out, and she is mostly blind, so hopefully she can attend the ceremony (and have at least some idea as to what is going on). Luckily... :wizard: [I'm going to Disney in three weeks!!! The week before Thanksgiving I'll be down for a few days! I'm visiting my grandma with my parents and then we will be staying at the Boardwalk (concierge level!) to get an idea of what it will be like come April! We'll try to look around at different ideas for the wedding, also. I don't think I'm going to actually go into any of the parks because I don't want to use my annual pass before my DF can begin his! I'll just enjoy the time off of work and the nice weather/food :)

Hey just a quick post today. I am about to begin working on my Invitations and wanted to post a "Before" picture!
<<edited, see end for pics>>
So, all of the stuff (after tax) came out to be: Supplies $105, High-quality printer and ink $105, estimated stamps $35.
The large envelope/card will be the reception/dessert party invitation. I will probably use the "happily ever after" stamp on the front of it.
the small envelope/card will be the response card, and I'll probably use the tinkerbell rubber stamp on the front of that
I am going to cut the other card stock in half and make one sheet the ceremony invitation, and the other sheet accomodation/traveling information.
The ceremony invitation will have the see-through layer laying on top, and the gold ribbon with a bow at the top.
Well... you'll see what I mean later...

Wow I already finished making my response cards! Here are pics of the front (Tinkerbell) and the inside!
<<edited, see end for pics>>
The response card says
"We look forward to celebrating with you!"
Names:
__ Oh Boy! You Bet! I'll see ya real soon!
__Gosh! I won't be able to make it. Give Mickey my best!

WOW you've been busy!
Ok... the headpiece i dont know if i'm feeling it. It could just be the way it was photographed but in all honesty i could take it or leave it.... but totally up to you.
The response cards are ADORABLE!
and i might have to hire you to make my invitations, they came out so great!
And that stinks with the allergies.... right around this time of year when the windows close because its too cold out and the heat gets turned on i have the same things happening to me. I've been vacumning up puppy hair everyday to keep the allergies to the minimum! So i feel for ya and i hope you feel better soon!

I'm gonna go against everyone else and say I like the headpiece. I think it will look a lot different once your hair is done, but I think your hair would need volume to make it look smaller, if you know what I mean. Just my opinion anyway!
I really love your invitations and response cards. I am always so jealous of all the creative brides on here :goodvibes

Hi Kim!! :wave2: I just found your PJ and am all caught up now. I'm also an April 2010 bride. (the 19th to be exact) :goodvibes First, your dress is beautiful and such a deal you got on it! :thumbsup2 Second, your ring is beautiful. So unique, I love it. :lovestruc Third, I think the headpiece is nice. I agree with Karen and think once you get some volume and curls in your hair, the headpiece will look a little smaller and not overwhelm your head! I like that it's different! Also, your invitations came out wonderful. I love that they are home made. (ours are too) Sorry you have developed allergies. My entire life I never had allergies then about 4 years ago poof... here they are. it's awful when the weather is changing.:sad2: Well, i'm so glad i found your PJ and wasn't too far behind! Can't wait to read more of your plans:thumbsup2

What did I ever decide to do with my beautiful sweet hound dog during my trip? Well my friend was so gracious enough to watch her at her own apartment during my trip, and I'm saving some $ by paying her rather than an expensive boarding place. Plus, i'm sure Ellie mae will be SO much more happy.

Everything looks great!! I love your dress!
How long before wedding did you make the initial contact and request for Brevard to do the wedding license? I just mailed in the initial thing just with our names on it, then supposedly they mail something back that we have to have notorized and then they mail the certificate...so when did you make initial contact?

Well lets see.. I sent in the very first form on February 1st. I got something back from them about 10 days later (about February 11). I resent that form with all the signitures and notary about February 15th. and then they called me later that week because I had did something incorrectly, but it was okay. Then I got the marriage license back that next week (About feb 22nd) so the whole thing was about a 4 week process.:wizard:

Hi everyone! It has been almost two weeks since I have been married, and married life is good! Our wedding was completely amazing. Although I will not be doing a complete TR, I don't mind sharing some pictures! I wanted to share a portrait session that DH and I did with David and Vicki Arndt a few hours after we got married.

And, of course, if ya'll want to see a few other pictures of the ceremony and reception, I can post those later (once I upload them to a picture website)
