View Full Version : If you could ask for one Perk from DVC

I am very glad we bought into DVC. We have been members since 2003, when we bought into Saratoga Springs resort and honestly have no regrets. We did not expect any extra's from DVC - so the dining discounts and other little extra's are fine.
But I have been wondering, if I could have one BIG perk from being a DVC member - what would I ask for?
1. Our DVC Member Card could be used to get in Fast Pass lane. You would not need to get a ticket, just show your card and walk in.
2. DVC Lounge in each park - a place to go and relax, that might have some places to sit, less used bathrooms etc...
Off the top of my head, I like those two - what would be your wish list for a DVC Perk?

I do not think it would be unfair or cost more to allow DVC'ers to book 5-10% restaurant capacity a few days earlier (A larger percentage might be nice, but you know here are other groups that may want similiar perks (AP, Visa, Deluxe..)

I'd like to see a discount on park tickets too, we won't be going every single year from the west coast but will be combining points to go every other year or so so it would be nice to get park ticket discounts, or free park hopper when you buy x-days of tickets or something like that. Once Hawaii opens we'll really utilize that so WDW may be a 1x every 3 or 4 years as we alternate between hawaii and wdw

My wish is for something more basic - clean rooms! But, that is probably too cost prohibitive since they would need to hire many more mousekeepers to be able to deliver an actually clean room to the next guest on time. Oh well, one can still dream ;)

Dh and I were talking about this last week while sitting at the Main Street Bakery.
We would like to be able to buy TIW card without having to buy an annual pass.
We would like to buy an annual pass that is good for WDW and DL. The cost of airfare from the east coast to CA is much higher than flying to Florida and when you have an annual pass or left over passses for WDW, that's where you go. We have not been to DL in 13 years.
DH said he would be willing to buy a lifetime annual pass, or a pass good for 10 years to be done with deciding what park tickets we are going to get for awhile.

I agree with the suggestions listed including...
- TIW
- More frequent housekeeping
- Park ticket discounts
- 30 day window for ADR's prior to standard time
These perks would help retain the value of DVC membership, boost resell prices and increase membership as well. Come on Disney, it is in your best interest to do these things and the cost is minor compared to the revenue generated!

Those requesting more frequent housekeeping - you can have that now. The only way automatic increased housekeeping is going to happen is through increased dues. It's an operating expense, that's the way a timeshare works. I'd prefer to keep it the way it is, only those wanting it pay for it. I really don't need any housekeeping during my stay, between guests is enough.

Keep housekeeping the way it is, if you want more just pay for it. Even though I am a DVC member, I'm not in favor of the fastpass idea. I think it should be equally accessible for everyone. I would like to see a comparable discount for park tickets like we have on AP's and more dining discounts.

Horrifying, isn't it? Not ALL the bedding is changed between guests. Just the sheets. So you get to use the same blanket and bed spread that someone may or may not have done who knows what to before you got there. I have never specifically asked at DVC but I did ask at Pop Century and they said they wash the bedspreads every few weeks. Gross! It would be SOOOO much better if they at least would use duvet covers that can be washed between guests. When we go we request extra sheets and pillow cases and fashion a make-shift duvet around the blanket.
I also do not want housekeeping every day (but that's fine for those that do). I just want a thorough cleaning of the room before I get there and that DEFINITELY doesn't happen - pretty much anywhere so not just a DVC problem...

Okay, if I'm reading this right... it is the standard operating procedure. As long as sheets are changed, I'm fine. I'll throw the blankets and comforter off anyway! I thought the comment meant that SHEETS were not necessarily changed between people.

Yeah, they don't change the bedspread just like they don't clean the couch cushions or the carpets. Everything is not sanitized. There is an assumption you won't be having close contact with those items. Just the towels and sheets.

Great prices on DCL in off season as well as the option to purchase a 3 season passport (that's what it used to be called) that gets them into WDW parks for part of the year and excludes them for the high season.
another thing that would be nice is the option to purchase a 18 month pass. Since we only go 1 a year at the same time, the annual pass doesn't help us.
And a special Dining discount too just for DVC members thats included for the lenght of our stay like 10% off all our dining no matter where we decide to dine. I only go 1 once a year so the TIW card doesn't really give me a great discount since you are only talking 5 or 6 table service restaurants.

The ability to use our AP's on BOTH coasts!!! Like one size fits all. Buy an AP and use it at DL or WDW. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 We would love to be able to switch up our trips every 2 or 3 times but it's cost prohibitive to have to buy new tix for the left coast. Even if they made that a 3rd type of AP. Right now they have the reg. AP and the Premium AP. They could make a 3rd type that is bi-coastal!!

The ability to buy a Tables in Wonderland card. Florida residents can, why not those of us who own a piece of Florida Disney?
Instead of doing that they could just give us more dining discounts to start with. Right now the list is pretty shabby. They could increase the limited number of participating restaurants that give the 10% and increase the discount from 10% to 15%. I'd rather they do that than me have to shell out another $75 to buy the TIW. I'm for anything that doesn't require me to open my wallet any more than I do now! LOL...and include alcohol of course!:rotfl2:

My first thought was the TIW card. I assume that many DVCers have APs though.
I wouldn't assume that. We don't; we fly from the west coast and while yes we made a few trips the past year, we don't actually PLAN to go more than 1x a calendar year. We'll probably go every other year or alternate once Hawaii opens up to even less than 1x ever 2 years or so as we;ll head to hawaii instead. for some of us, and probably more than you think don't have annual passes and don't go every year.

09-26-2009, 01:11 PM
As far as I can tell, all DVC member "perks" exist to increase our total trip spending. Yes, there are a few instances where members are getting a discount when they would otherwise pay full price, but the perks are supposed to help DVC members spend more as a group.
So, when you want a park ticket discount, ask "what incentive would I need to spend more than planned" It might be advantageous to have a combined, discounted ticket and DDP..
The only perk that does not seem to be tied to increased spending (yet) is the free Internet. But they could be thinking the free Internet could be used for more ADR's or "bounceback" trips once online reservations startup... Or the "free Internet" was prompted by the sales people saying they were getting "killed" selling a premium product with paid Internet..

I know many people "overlap" two trips to get the most out of APs. For instance your last trip was Aug/Sep of 2009. If you had an AP you could plan your 2010 trip for mid-August and get two trips out of the AP even though you're only going once per year.

I just got off the phone w/CR. I asked if all the bedding including blanket & bedspread was changed in between guests at CR & BLT. I expected the woman to say "Yes, of course" but she said "Let me send housekeeing a message to be sure. It will only take a minute." I heard her typing and we had some small talk. She said it will be around 90 today! Nice for all the folks there on vacation. Then she said the response is back & yes, all bedding including blankets & bedspreads are changed in between guests. I like the discount on park tickets as well.
For us - we usually get a 1 bedroom, and stop and get groceries. We still eat dinner out, but we do breakfast in the room and often get through lunch with something simple like a pretzel to hold us over. We even cook dinner a night or two, so we dont feel like we spend a ton of money on food.
But - thinking about food and our trip in the next few weeks - I would love to be able to eat around the world at EPCOT with my DVC member card. That would be a nice perk :goodvibes

Believe me, up until last year when I saw the discussion here on DIS, gullible me thought that all hotel/resorts changed the sheets/blankets/bedspreads between guests. I was horrified to find out that it wasn't true. Since then, I have been bringing my sheets on our vacations. Believe me, it takes up a lot of room in the luggage. As someone who first purchased DVC in 1992 when OKW was the one and only DVC, I miss the perk that we got when we first bought - which was free park admission until the year 2000. I know it is unrealistic, a lot to ask, and will never happen. But, it was soooooo nice in those first seven years, not having to pay for any admission. I miss those days!!!

Yeah - I wish it were true what housekeeping told you, but I am also suspicious then about the lack of bedspreads being carted around the hallways. I think it's more realistic that DVC does what Pop Century does - changes them out every few weeks. Also, based on the condition of some of the blankets/bedspreads I've seen in rooms I've been in, there is no way they were cleaned before I got there  Anyway, thanks for checking. The next time we stay I will try to speak to a housekeeping manager and see if maybe someday they will add duvets that can be changed after every guest. Carnival cruise lines had that on a ship I was on - it sure made me sleep easier!

Lower the required number of points to do Adventures By Disney.

DCL, Adventures by Disney, and other Disney Properties should be more fairly priced from a DVC points perspective.

How about DVC paying for each member to have one complimentary Owner's Locker? We don't mind paying for this great service but that would be a nice perk - and helpful for most members, I would imagine.

I would LOVE to have lower prices on all MYW tickets, and regular AP's!
A close second would be a WDW & DL annual pass option. I seriously think that with the opening of GCV, that should be a no-brainer, but, whatever :lmao:

I thought about this one day too. If I were in DVC management I would look into the actual logistics of this option. Think about it Disney already has a pretty sophisticated system that would enable them to implement something like this on their own. Disney has the access to all of its own hotels, a large pool of repeat guests and their information, most likely they have the storage area, the transportation would be all onsite, etc. Of course there would be overhead but a lot of the system needed is in place. I am surprised that they have not looked at this yet as another source of revenue/guest convenience.
I know one criticism may be that Disney would not do this because it would cut into the profits of the products they sell to guests. However I feel that many people who use the Owner's locker do not buy the majority of whatever they store from WDW itself, they either bring it and leave it or use a service to bring them these home consumables. Or the things stored in the owners lockers are things that could not be bought at Disney such as special clothing, toys, appliances, etc.
Sorry, back to the topic, this would be a great DVC perk, I am just surprised that this system has not been implemented by Disney yet.
