I didn't see another thread (unless I missed it), so I figured that I would start one.

I just booked last night, sailing in one of the SPH rooms (the last one said the DCL rep).

My cast of characters will be:
Amy - myself - celebrating my 42nd birthday on 7/18
Chris - DH (44)
Emily - DD (9)
Madison - DD (7)
(ages at time of cruise)

We've never been to Alaska, so I'm looking forward to this cruise as a first experience. I'm sure that we'll want to go back in the future!! This will be DCL cruise #9 for us. We have sailed 4 times on the Magic and 3 times on the Wonder, and we're scheduled to sail again on the Wonder on 3/28/10 over Spring Break (we couldn't pass up kids sail free offer).

We're FL residents, so Alaska will be QUITE a change for us (not so much for me, since I'm a Chicago native), but definitely for the rest of my family, as they're definitely Florida natives (DH moved there when he was 2).

And, I'm hoping that a bunch of my DISfriends will be joining us for this cruise!!

This was going to be our 2nd choice cruise. I wish I had known you were going on it. The 12th is Coleens birthday! I hope you have a great time. We go about 5 weeks before you so I will do some reporting.

Oh no Steve - are you sure you don't wanna switch?? Julie, Erin, Diana and Stacy are all considering this cruise. Not sure if everyone will be sailing, but there's talk.

I am going to join you here, and hope on 9/28 I can officially join!! This is our first choice, also looking at August 30, but over Labor Day so I think it might be more. We will likely be:
ME (will turn 34 shortly after cruise)
DH (36)
DD (will turn 6, 7/17)

And possibly FIL and his wife. We hope my parents will think about joining us too.

We are hoping for a Category 11B, hopefully a sideways. FIL is getting a Cat 5 and T quote, we shall see.

This will be our first DCL. We live in Seattle, so the lack of need for airfare made this too easy!! We plan to take Amtrak up to Vancouver the day before and stay one night. Amtrak back is a late departing time, so should catch it the day we return.

Fingers crossed. A higher deposit might be the deciding factor for us, we shall see!

Hi Marsha - since we're coming from FL, we looked into airfare, and I think that we're going to end up going up a few days early and flying into Seattle. Then, we were also considering Amtrak up to Vancouver. I was laughing with my kids that we'd be doing "Planes, Trains & Automobiles" + a ship, but since they're so young, they didn't appreciate my "humor".

Amy,
You guys will have a great time checking out Seattle!! DH and I did a short overnight trip to Vancouver on Amtrak, and ride is absolutely awesome!! You gotta sit on the West side of the train, you will have the best view. Much of it runs along the water.

I really hope we can get on this sailing, to spend DD's birthday with Disney would be awesome!! We took her to Disneyland in February and had thought about a return trip for her 5th or 6th birthday, but this is too perfect!

I will be happy to provide any feedback and ideas on things to do in Seattle!

Hey hawaiian mickey - which SPHs did you get? We have sailed in 5024 several times, but this time we're on the other side of the ship in 5520.

I LOVE the SPH rooms!!!

hi - just confirmed our cruise - we've got two rooms

5013 & 5014

it's me, dh, dd (21 at that time), ds (19 at that time), & ds (6 at that time)

we can't wait -

it looks like the dis cruisers know that deck 5 is great - all the spr's were booked by the tiime we called - but we got 5013 - the first room that we had when we did the inaugural magic & wonder cruises - so it'll be like 'home' in our special room on this inaugural cruise to alaska

but we can't wait - it's going to be great -

mrsmoore
09-25-2009, 01:06 PM
We are hoping for Deck 5 too! Hopefully one of those sideways 11B rooms, which looks like 5013 is? Is that room roomy??!! It will just be DH, me, and DD (6), so figure that will be perfect!

kiddisney
09-27-2009, 06:33 PM
5013 is the sideways room - it's on the front end of the ship - so it's not so crowded - we were going to get two i/s staterooms but thought that the porthole would be good to look out as we cruise since we'll be closer to shore than on a full open ocean cruise - hope to see other dis'ers on this special trip

Add three more to the July 12th sailing.

We are in Cat 7a #7620 (Secret Verandah cabin)

Our cast includes:
Myself: Veronica - 35 at the time
DH: Also 35 at the time
DD: 8 at the time of sailing

I would be more than happy to set up a logo for our sailing. I see the 7-26 folks are using Donald. There is a cute Mickey picture on a floatplane. What do you guys think about using that?

We are waiting on DU to get our official notice of a quote, but we plan to be on board, have deposit ready!!

Can I make a cheesy suggestion for a name?

One of my favorite rides at Disneyland is Big Thunder Mountain. When you are waiting they say, "hold on to your hats, this is the wildest ride in the west".

What about a name like that, "Wildest Cruise in the West".

Okay, that probably sounds totally cheesy, but just an idea!

I do not know how I am going ot make it until July of 2011!!

DH - Rich - 41
DS - Nick - 12
(ages at time of cruise)

My sister and her family will be joining us as well
They are in Cat5c 6616

Got us a new room, now 6511. I had read on wdwinfo that 6019 was next to a crew room that did not show on the deck plans. 6511 sounds like it will be perfect!

Hi!

I'm Jen, and our group of 9 (so far) will be joining you all....including my sister and brother in law who live in Anchorage. We've been trying to convince them to cruise for years, who knew the Alaksan one would get them aboard!

We visted them this past July. It's a BEAUTIFUL state. I can't wait to see from the Wonder!

Ohhh this is so long to wait. I think it may just kill me. I was so excited last night that Wayne and I went to the book store and got a book on cruising Alaska. I have read every page to chapter 2...even the ones that I didn't need to read. LOL.

Us being a family of 8 I like to know everything well in advance. Well this is a bit of a long time to wait. Atleast I haven't started packing yet. I have to get through our May trip to WDW and then the Member cruise in September. (I'm hoping that isn't as big of a dissapointment as the 2009 one). If it is I think that will be the last member cruise for us.

I'm so excited to get to know everyone. By the time we all get to the ship we will all be like good friends. I'm trying to talk my sister-in-law into comming, but she will just be finishing up nursing school and I know how big of a pain it is to get a vacation when just starting a new job. =(

Let me tell you all a little about us =)

Wayne-the dad: works full time for Coca-Cola. Seems funny because he only drinks Mt. Dew. He just loves that they only offer coke products on Disney cruises. He is also the family taxi driver. (you will see why down below) I tease him that he needs to paint his truck yellow and add a meter so he can make a few bucks for gas money.

Stephania (me)-the mom: I work full time plus as a 3rd shift nurse. Don't be surprised if you see posts at 1 am. I'm doing them from work on my cell phone trying to stay awake.

Amber-oldest daughter is in the 9th grade now. On varsity cheerleading and has a ton of fun with her cell phone texting up a storm. Boy am I glad that we have unlimited texting. Playes the flute and absoloutly "loves" school. (I say that with sarcasm)

Mitchel-oldest son: Is in the 7th grade and on the football team. No clue how that works seeing how I have no physical talent at all.

Ashley-daughter #2: is in the 5th grade and thinks that she is just as old as her highschool aged sister. She is in chior and playes the flute also. Girl Scouts keeps her busy.

Maggie-daughter #3: Is in the 2nd grade and loves to play with the baby. Brownies keeps her learning fun new things.

Mason-son #2: is the comic of the family. He can always make everyone laugh by burping on command. (it must be a boy thing). This is his first year of school. K-is just the best thing on earth to him.

Abby- daughter #4: is the monkey of the family. Constantly laughing and being found in the oddest places. I don't know how a 2 year old can get on the fridge, but this one can.

As I sit here and type this I wonder if its too soon to ask if anyone will be doing the fish extenders??? I know for sure that we will. My kids love finding the surprises every night at the room. Wayne seems to think that its too soon, but being the organized one I like to know sooner than later. =)

I hope everyone has a wonderful night. Its now time for me to do the mom thing and get some homework done before dad comes home and has to start playing taxi.

Hello,

We booked yesterday for Cruise... Can't wait, we are sailing on DVC points in cabin number 5514... we discovered Deck 5 this summer on West. Car cruise and loved how quiet it was.

We are
Ron

This will be our Fourth Cruise... we love it...

Would love to get involved in the Fish Extender, we loved coming back to our cabin and finding little gifts.. I don't know who loved it more me our RJ.

Happy Planning

We also didn't think we would like crusing, but boy were we wrong. We love it!

The Alaska cruise will be our 4th, crossing my fingers that it is our 5th. I'm trying to convince my husband that we need to do the April 10 day Mexician Riviera as an adult only trip. Hopefully that works out.

As to the fish extenders...my over organized self has already started a list of who is thinking of doing them =)

Today has been hectic for me. Got done with work at 7am and had to be back to work at 11 am for a meeting. Not a lot of fun. I have been up now for close to 18 hours and the baby finally fell asleep so I think I will steal a little nap before getting the kids from school and then off to games and practices.

I hope everyone has a good Friday night =)

We will be participating in the Fish Extender gift exchange as well.
We had a kids board for our last cruise - it was not too busy - all depends on the ages of the kids

One other thing we did on our last cruise was a Scavenger Hunt - It was a lot of fun. I still have the "hunt" list. It was for the Magic. I am sure I can make one for the Wonder. This was a family event. Just another "event" we can put on the options list.

The scavenger hunt sounds really fun. I think the kids would love it. What kind of things did you have to find?

It has been a really busy week for me. Working and then multiple days of manditory meetings. Makes it really suck when the meetings are during your nap time. I went to bed at 8am and didn't get up until just now. This is the most sleep that I've had all week. =)
Ok I'll start keeping track of the fish extender list. =)

Everyone have a good rest of the day. I'm going wake up with some morning coffee. And figure out my plans for the day. Which probably include absolutely nothing.

Anyone hear that we were over charged points for the Alaska cruise? Wayne looked at the points chart and it seems that we were over charged by 70 points a room. I think it will have to look into this monday for sure. I will let you know what I come up with. 140 points would be a nice room the night before in Vancouver.

We didn't get picked for the house party either.

Just wanted to check in. I'm busy now focusing on my upcoming cruise. We'll be on this cruise and would love to participate in the FE as well. Our gang:

Judy(me)
DH-Ray
DS-Michael 11 at time of cruising (wow-had to stop for a minute & think about that)
DS-Zachary 9 at time of cruising
DS-Christopher 7 at time of cruising

DH and I are doing the Baltic for our 40th birthdays and 15th anniversary.

We're planning on flying into Seattle a couple days before. I have an aunt there. Then maybe taking the train to Vancouver. Haven't started looking into that yet.

Everyone have a great day.

We are going!
However- my wife doesn't know yet. She will find out on Feb. 14th (our anniversary). I booked while we were on our New Year's Eve cruise. Most amazing trip I have ever been on. The forcast was really bad the night we left Castaway Cay so the Wonder was coming in to dock and wait out the storm so we got to pass her and have a little horn battle.
I am also suprising her by booking out parents on the cruise. They are all in on it. So we are a group of 6 for now.
I would love to get to know you all. How mahy of you are on facebook? at!Let's chat!

Did someone start a facebook page for this cruise? I'd join. We're on facebook.

If everyone can wait until Feb 14 I can make a facebook page. I did it for our last cruise and it worked really well. We just didn't have a big group to start with. I'd make one right away but I am positive my wife would see it and she would figure out we are going. If someone else wants to make it I will join after the 14th. Otherwise I will have it all ready to go then. Just let me know.
Anyone who wants to chat there sometime please send me a friend request. Brian Marx, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Can't wait to meet you all!

We did the 4 night Bahama cruise a little over a year ago. We had the girls with us and we did a walking tour: http://www.frommers.com/destinations/newprovidence/0251010008.html

It was nice to be able to do it at our leisure. You can find the same type of trip on a tour bus. It was interesting.

Hi everyone! We booked on the first day, but first some strange reason I forgot to look at the meets section. Too busy concentrating on my disneyland trip in December and my upcoming baltic cruise (my fourth disney cruise).

This will be my families 5th cruise with disney. It will be 5 of us...dh, moi, and 3 sons, 15,12,9 (ages at time of cruise!).

I grew up in Vancouver and my parents still live there so I go there often. My family and I currently live just across the water in sunny Victoria (Vancouver Island).

Any Vancouver questions anyone might have, I'll try to answer.

Great to meet you all.

Anyone going to the baltics too?

I am curious if anyone packaged their cruise with one of the Fairmont Hotels and what the price was. It looks like Disney has added some information to the website about transportation and I am thinking if it is worth booking one of those hotels the night before to have the transfer to the port and sounds like they might take care of baggage at hotel, before get to port?

Just curious what the hotels were going for!

Good Morning everyone!!! I miss posting here so I will post here and on the FB site - just so if anyone NEW comes along we can get them involved.

It is May 2 and we are 435 Days from Sailaway.

I have begun to research things to do at each stop. There are some fun events to be done on our own - so I wonder what Disney will set up?

I have been following the Mediterranean cruise going on now. We were originally booked this summer on that cruise...

Hope everyone starts drying out in the Mid South today... we are in for a wet afternoon here.

Just a reminder - Join us on Facebook!

As far as weather - it can be ANYTHING. I have been on an Alaska cruise before. One day we were in parkas, sweatshirts, and bundled in blankets on deck. The next day we were in the pool looing for any way possible to cool off. It is usually chillier on the water tan on land and the further inland you get the warmer it is. We his 95 degrees up in Fairbanks actually.

My biggest suggestion - bring raingear! It will rain while we are in Alaska. Most of the Alaskan coast is a temperate rainforest. The funny thing is Alsakans are proud of it. They call it liquid sunshine.

Hello - we are originally from Middlesex County so I feel comfortable with all of the NYC airports and Philly. Right now it is alot cheaper to fly to Seattle. I have looked at AirCanada out of Newark and the prices never seem to fluctuate. I think it is $327 per person each way. We would like to head to either location around Thursday/Friday the week before, and spend time exploring the Pacific Northwest.

I need to book airfare before 10/30 (hoping to alot sooner than that) to take advantage of my 3X Disney Rewards for Airline on my Disney Visa.

Needless to say, I'm feeling sad that the Baltic cruise is over. So now, I'm going to focus on this cruise to Alaska to make me feel better, LOL! The Alaskan cruise will be our 6th Disney cruise.

(This list is taken from www.cruisecritic.com)

10. Hiking Boots -- You'll need a sturdy pair of hiking boots or shoes to tread upon Alaska's mountainous terrain.
9. Alarm Clock -- You wouldn't want to miss wildlife sightings or be the last off the ship in port, so it's important to rise and shine early on port days.
8. Collapsible Backpack (Gym Sack) -- Many of our members suggested taking a backpack that folds up and can be stored in your pocket until you need to use it (to store extra clothing layers that are peeled off or souvenirs bought in port). The sacks are very lightweight and have a drawstring to keep your belongings safely tucked away.
7. Motion Sickness Medicine -- The waters along the Pacific Coast and in Alaska can be particularly choppy, so if you get seasick, be prepared with a remedy.
6. Sunscreen -- Don't let the chilly temperatures fool you -- the sun's UV rays are strong in Alaska. Cruise Critic member UT-Volsfan says, "Definitely don't forget the sunscreen if you are going on a tour to one of the glaciers. The sun off of the ice can be very intense. On our first Alaska cruise, a couple came to the dinner table beside ours and had very red faces. They had not used sunscreen and had gotten cooked."
5. Memory Cards for the Camera -- Make sure to bring plenty of memory for all of the beautiful scenery you'll encounter in Alaska. Not only should you have back up memory cards.
4. Repellent -- Cruise Critic member Fl_Star says, "You must remember to bring insect repellent in the pump bottle. We brought the spray, only to have it confiscated by Alaska airlines. It cost me $9.75 to replace with another spray only to have it taken again. The mosquitoes are huge, so bring the repellent and make sure it's the pump."
3. Rain Gear -- Things like umbrellas, ponchos, raincoats with hoods and extra socks are advisable in case you get caught in a downpour. Member sue450 advises using a "waterproof rain jacket with a hood and a fleece jacket that zips up with a high collar (then you don't need a scarf or any turtle neck shirts). Wait to buy these in Ketchikan. They have excellent quality jackets for much less than I paid at home, and they have nice, simple Alaska logos on them. There are tons of stores right off the dock."
2. Binoculars -- While many members suggest taking binoculars with you on your Alaska cruise, the quality of them is the key. Cruise Critic member cantw8togo says, "Take the strongest binoculars that you have. You will see so much more of the wildlife that is farther away."
1. Layers -- Take light jackets, fleece clothing, a warm hat and gloves for layering in unpredictable weather. Cruise Critic member spirlene says, "Since weather varies even if you get the best, bring all possible options from short sleeves and shorts to long sleeves and rain gear. The coldest we were was on the ship looking at the glacier for hours. That's where I wore the earmuffs and hood for wind." Member marysb chimes in, "Don't buy fleece and windbreakers before you go. All of the ports sell jackets and fleece very inexpensively. They are nice souvenirs, but remember to leave room when you are packing to bring them home."

I don't think anything has been set down. Mark has traded this cruise for another cruise. He was looking for someone to be an administrator for the facebook page, but I don't know if some one has stepped up or not.

Maybe we should ask for volunteers as to who wants to head up certain things such as FE, personalized lanyards (if we want them), a group meet for a group pic, a group excursion (we have 2 group excursions on our Oct 30, 2010 cruise), a Palo brunch date, a PJ breakfast. There's a lot of things we can plan for. I know how the planning bug goes. This cruise is less than a year out and we don't have any plans!

Whose up for what? It's all open for suggestions and discussion.

We have flown Cathay Pacific to Hong Kong and it was great. There was stopover in Vancouver to pick up passengers. I just flew China Airlines back, and to me, the Asian airlines have much customer service on board and the flight attendants were always cleaning the restrooms.

It looks like we will be flying to Seattle from Tampa($400 r/t pp) instead of Vancouver ($750 r/t pp). The Amtrak train to Vancouver for all 6 of us one way is $140 total. DH wants to look into renting a car. I need to make up my mind fast regarding flights since there are so many of us.
Looking into using Marriott points for the Renaissance Harbourside.

Hey everyone!! Can we please get in on the fish extenders, scavenger hunts, etc??!! It all sounds like a lot of fun!! There will 4 of us in Cabin 7022...
Ages as of next July...
DH 53 (Gary)
Me OTD (Linda=Older than dirt)
DD 17(Elora)
DD11 (Faith)

We actually booked back in June but I have been totally obsessing about our trip to WDW this :santa: December, I fear I am now behind on planning for the Alaska cruise next year!! THis will be our 5th cruise on DCL, our first on the Wonder!!

When I found this thread I got so excited!! Looking forward to "talking" with all of you!! :goodvibes

Welcome to you and your family!

I know what you mean about the planning. We are going next month and that is all I can concentrate on. We were GTY and just got our cabin assignments yesterday on our October cruise. We are GTY for this cruise also.

Still trying to decide if we will fly or drive to Vancouver for this cruise...

Talk soon,

We're still going...thanks for the PM. I prefer to post on the boards rather than facebook. I'm not much of a facebook person.

There was so much planning for our baltic cruise, but this cruise is pretty easy for us, so not much planning happening. We sail out of Vancouver, where my parents live...so no hotel, no airfare.

The cruise is only 7 days long and only 3 ports to worry about. Waiting for the excursions to be posted. So far, nothing has excited me too much in the ones I'ved previewed. I'm excited to see the glaciers, that's our main priority. Since I'm from the west coast, totem poles, log shows and gold rush shows are nothing new to us.

I've taken the inside passage from Vancouver Island to Prince Rupert and it is gorgeous! Can't wait to see Alaska!

If there is going to be a disboard brunch, I'd love to be part of it. We missed out on our Baltic Cruise.

Otherwise, its a waiting game for us for the excursions.

(I'm also super excited for the 2012 itinerary to come out. Can't wait!)

It's time to throw all our energy into planning this cruise! We booked a year ago, but were too focused on planning the med and WB Transatlantic
B2B to even think about it...We are soooooo sad that trip of a lifetime is over, but happy we have Alaska to look forward to.

There are 10 of us booked...including my sister and brother in law who live in (and LOVE) Anchorage, AK.

I'll do my best to check in here every now and then.

Hi Wendi and :welcome:

Sounds like a nice group of people you are going with. My DH has been to Alaska many many times on a ship just never a cruise ship if you know what I mean.

You should check with Erin, crzy4dals. I believe she has started a FE list. She can also hook you up to the FB account.

We are doing a Western on the Magic later this month. I just finished boxing up our FE gifts for that cruise this morning...so I am very much in the FE mood today! It ended up taking 3 boxes! Thankfully, we are flying SW and have the extra luggage room. :lmao:

I was just at Target and they had all kinds of Disney Princess and Cars stuff in the $1 section. I picked up a princess white board to put on our cabin door, just have to add magnets to the back. They had journals, pencils, pens, card games, socks, all kinds of stuff!

I've been checking out airline flights.... Is anyone staying at one of the Disney hotels before the cruise? Yikes, I looked them up online :surfweb: at the Fairmont hotel site & was shocked at the prices. Has anyone sailed out of Vancouver before and could tell me if staying at the Waterfront is worth it because you can walk to the ship? (at least I think you can by looking at the map). One less taxi ride for us & all our luggage would be great.

Our plans this far are to fly out of Chicago into LAX. I will be able to book rooms at Disneyland tomorrow using DVC points. We will be staying 4 nights. After our Disney stay we will fly into Vancouver the morning before we cruise. I hope we have a little time to do an afternoon of sightseeing. We are staying at one of the hotels on the pier. I can't remember the name right now, just that it was pricey and convient. After the cruise we fly back to Chicago. Believe it or not it was cheaper to fly from Chicago to LAX then to Vancouver rather than fly from Chicago directly to Vancouver. Who'd a guessed it? I can't wait to be able to book the excursions. Oh, and how do you guys get all of your FE stuff to the ship with you? Do you just pack it and take it on the plane? I have been on 3 other Disney cruises, but this is the first with FE's. Thanks

We've always just brought ours with us but we usually fly SW so the extra baggage doesn't cost anything. Last trip, it was 4 paper boxes full of stuff, including our door magnets and FE. It was a very large FE list, over 30 cabins and we brought for each person, not just one per cabin. I was able to tape 2 of them together and still be under weight and dimension requirements and it only counted as 2 pieces of luggage. TSA did want a peek into the boxes! They retaped them somewhat, but not as well as I had them taped. Some people mail them to the ship. I'm sure there will be an address, if there is not one already, posted somewhere on the boards. If you decide to mail your stuff, post a message on the main cruise thread and see if anyone has an address yet.

Linda,
Thanks for the quick reply. I am wondering if I could come up with something cloth and use space saver bags? That way I could just pop them into the luggage. As long as I stay under the weight limit. I am not flying SW, so every bag counts!

Oh Erin! How sad for all of us that you won't be going :-( . I know the feeling. I just closed my business 11/8/2010. I don't know how we are going to afford this trip, let alone the other cruises I have deposits on. I will wait until the very last minute and cancel if I have to. Not a fun economy out there. Even the most carefully laid out plans can go awry. I wish you a speedy recovery from this economic downfall :)

I'm not a good FB person though so I won't be able to pick up the slack there, I'm sorry.

I hope things turn around swiftly for you and hopefully we'll meet another time on another ship.

Best of luck.

Booked a Skagway tour for a 2 mile hike in Gold Rush national park and then a float tour back down the river.

And by the way, Skagway Float tours age limit is five years old, If you book through Disney cruise lines you have to be 10 so if you have kids in the middle best to go directly through them

Hi everyone.

We were really up in the air about whether or not we were going to be able to make final payment date on this cruise and we were really thinking we were going to have to cancel altogether.

Disney announced today KSF on selected Alaska Cruises through 6/7/2011. Our kids get out of school on 5/26 so we switched over to the 5/31 Alaska cruise. So we will be able to go to Alaska after all, just not with this group.

I am sure you all will have a great time sailing together.

Thanks for the chat.

Welcome Jonathan!

I think as we get closer a few more people will join in the discussion. Must be a lot of newbies on the Alaska cruise. Has anyone here cruised Alaska before and could give us a hint of how cold it will be and how the seas are (calm?). It looks so tranquil when you see pictures, I'm hoping that will be the way it is. Are we always close enough to see land, or is just when we're pulling in or out of port? I thought about buying a new pair of binoculars but not sure if I should spend the money. Our other ones are quite old & heavy.

Good morning,

Final payment due soon. We booked our flights a couple of weeks ago. Glad we did since the prices have gone up.

Us too! I am so glad we got our airfare booked about a week before the fares went up. We decided to fly directly into Vancouver instead of Seattle because the cost was only $300 more for all three of us plus it allows us to spend more time in Vancouver. We'll be flying in on Saturday and will have until Tuesday to explore.

I am considering getting the trolley pass. It looks like the second days is free if purchase online so we would use it on Sunday and Monday. It looks like the loop is 2 hours and you can depart as much as you like with a new trolley coming every 40 minutes. We are probably staying in Canada Place so it sounds like it would be a great way to see the sites around Vancouver without renting a car. Anyone know much about the trolley?

DH and I are still trudging through every single excursion on the DCL site. It is so hard to narrow down the choices. We have 15 saved and we are only half way through! Our DD is 8 so that limits us somewhat. Plus it is important to us to do uniquely Alaskan excursions.

Well, doesn't look like to much is happening on this cruise with the Dis boards. It would be fun to at least have a little get together on board. As it gets closer, hopefully some new members will join in & some of the old members will come back & post.

Thanks for the thought about the Trolley. Haven't heard of it. We are flying into Vancouver about 5 days early to explore. Still haven't booked a hotel yet. Waiting to see if a friend comes through with a discount! :cheer2:

I too have been looking at all the DCL shore excursions. There are so many that sound similar... too many choices! I know many people say that its much cheaper to do it yourself and not through Disney, but we've never had a bad experience and don't want to ruin the vacation by picking the wrong vendor.

I haven't booked the hotel yet either. I need to though! I think we will stay at the Pan Pacific.

I have always booked excursions through Disney directly. I have priced out both ways (in the Caribbean not on this cruise) and at the end of the day, the small savings wasn't worth the peace of mind - for me. Everyone is different though. :flower3:

You are right-really no activity on this thread. I need to look at excursions since the 120 day mark is so close. I haven't researched Vancouver yet. I feel so lost. When we were on the Baltic, at this time frame I had everything reserved and researched. I feel so lost. I have the hotel book through Mariott points. We come in the day before and stay 2 days after. I haven't book a van yet.

Any news on a roster or FE exchange?

Any help from those who have done some research, please pass along good tips you have found.

Thank you so much.

Paid off our cruise & now I get to book shore excursions but there are soooooo many to choose from! I thought I did my homework, but now I'm in a panic. At least I know this cruise is coming up soon. It's been a long time since we made our reservation (2009, I think). Getting excited.

We are paid off too but our booking window for excursions doesn't open until 90 days, I think. We are silver members. I am so lost on what to book. We are on page 6 of the 10 pages of excursions in the three ports. We already have almost 20 excursions saved. :rolleyes1 We have to keep researching so we have our choices ready to go by April. :surfweb:

Well, our reservation window opened up, so we booked.... everything was still available.

Takshanuk Adventure in Skagway
Mendenhall Glacier & Float in Juneau
Misty Fjords (for DD & I) & Bear Creek Zip line for DH & DS in Ketchikan.

Hope we chose good ones! I actually let the kids pick, that way I'm off the hook if they aren't fun. The helicopter & float planes all look so amazing, but expensive once you times it by 4, so we opted for a little less adventure.

I didn't know that the harry potter movie comes out during the cruise; that would be great! Also, I think the new pirates in the caribbean will debut while we are cruising too - I am sure they will show at least one of those - that should be a lot of fun!

I wish they would screen the last Harry Potter movie as I am a fan, but I think the answer is no. I don't think they screen anything other than movies distributed by Disney or their partner companies. I am pretty sure the Harry Potter franchise is not affiliated with Disney.

So glad you were able to get the excursions you wanted! Since you are Platinum, I was wondering if you could do me a huge favor. I have called DCL and they can't tell me if the Neets Bay Bear Watch by Floatplane (Seasonal) is available to book for our cruise. The DCL site says Mid-July but when I Googled the two vendor sites I found said the excursion begins July 20 and 22nd. DCL could tell me if it would be available on Juuly 17th when we'll be there. They initially said yes because July 17th is mid-July but then admitted they did not know for sure. Hoping you can help!

Hope that helps! Happy to look up anything.

The only thing with "bear" in the title is the bear creek zip line adventure. Then there is the "Alaskan Coastal Expedition" which is a boat trip that mentions wildlife viewing and lists bears.

i have only been on one cruise and never ordered room service. I know that it is not entirely free, but I am confused. Do you need to pay for ALL beverages (soda, juice, coffee, etc) or just soda? Are the prices insanely high or reasonable? And then how do you know how much to tip - a dollar or two or five or ten? Thanks!

I booked Cathay last July for this trip for $340 pp roundtrip. Loved the 2 bags for free part! We are heading out on Friday then staying at the Pan Pacific until the cruise on Tuesday. I also made a car reservation at JFK to leave the car parked there.

I can't wait to get the excursions booked next week!

If you request soda in a can, there is a charge. Not sure what the price is per can. Also there is a charge for snack items like candy and popcorn. I usually tip a couple of dollars. Room service is the best in the morning if you have early tours.

We moved our dummy cruise to a New York to Canada cruise today. It would have been nice; however, if it was a 7 day cruise with a stop in Maine. Maybe another year. I looked at adding the 2 day cruise to complete a B2B, but decided against it.

I would have loved to book Hawaii, but the kids are still in school. I have a few more years to wait on that trip.

Same here-already have Hawaii booked, but going to try to see if I can rebook it onboard and just transfer the reservation to my TA. That way I keep DCL discount and OBC as well as the TA's. My friend tried reserving Friday for Hawaii and there was no availability for what she wanted.

Still need to work on a car reservation for Vancouver, at least flight, hotel, and excursions are booked. I would like to research if it would be worthwhile if I book our excursions on our own.

Do we have a FE list? I rarely go on Facebook, but I don't think I have access to the page.

Anyone on the thread a gold or platinum member and willing to check and see if the Bear Country and Wildlife Excursion (Ketchikan) is available to book for our cruise? BFF is joining DS and I on the cruise in place of DH, and one of the only things she's consistently talked about is seeing bears. The information about this excursion says it's seasonal and operates from mid-July to September.

I'd love to surprise BFF on Thursday morning (the 90 day mark!) and tell her that I was able to get us this excursion.

So what excursions did everyone book? I think it will be interesting to see if any of us will be on the same trips.

We booked:

Palo Brunch the morning we are in Tracey Arm. :cloud9:

Skagway: Alaska Nature and Wildlife Expedition

Juneau: Sled Dog Discovery & Musher's Camp

Ketchikan: Back Country Jeep and Canoe Adventure

This is subject to change because we are hoping to do one of our excursions with my brother's family (first time cruisers) but if it sells out before that point we may have to juggle some things around. I made all my reservations right at midnight but I was pleasantly surprised to see very little sold out this morning. :cool1:

Hi All!

We're also booked on this cruise since last year- our 3rd Disney Cruise and can't wait. Haven't made any plans about excursions yet. When we got the reminder that we could start booking it was impossible to get on the site- whole thing kept freezing and by the time we could actually book all the Palo reservations I wanted were gone so my enthusiasm was a little dampened when it came to booking excursions.....was also more than a little horrified at the prices! I also realised that my dd(6) can't do a lot of them as she's too young and that my ds(10) is suddenly considered an adult at age 10 and will be charged the full adult price for most of the excursions. Not impressed!!

Need to do more research and book some excursions of our own, methinks! We did a mixture of our own and DCL excursions on the Med cruise last year and while I liked the security of being on a Disney bus in some of the bigger ports I also got a lot of satisfaction from organising our own trips too and not feeling ripped off or too tied to a schedule.

Would love to hear anyone else's plans for DIY excursions. Let the planning begin!!! :)

I found the same thing with booking through Disney. Disney does not like booking real young kids due to liability. I found third parties to book through and now my five year old is going on a rafting trip in Skagway among other things. I did Frontier Excursions in Skagway, alaskatours.com in juneau and sourdough tours in ketchican. I found recommendations for all on places like fodors and trip advisor.

I wanted to book through Disney in the carribean too but in Alaska where I could check Better Business Bureau rankings and such it did not make much of a difference.

Hey there.
I haven't been on this thread in a while. We pretty much have everything booked and are now just planning what we will be doing before and after the cruise.
I can't wait for this cruise. This will be our 3rd Disney cruise.

I keep changing my excursion for the day we are in Ketchikan. What is everyone else doing that day?

We had wanted to do the bear one, but it is too early in the season.

We also wanted to do a bear excursion but couldn't. Instead we booked the Jeep and Canoe excursion. I think the minimum age is 8. I can't recall how old your kids are. My DD will turn 8 one month before the cruise so we eeked by with that one.

The Misty Fjord boat ride was our second choice.

Thanks for posting this. Picked up 3 tickets to use the day we get back from our cruise. We booked a night at the Pan Pacific and I see that there is a HOHO pick-up spot right at Canada Place!

Sojourners can soak up the sun or dip into the ship's two interior decks, where a fully licensed bar and snoring beat boxer keep travellers entertained. Not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but when I tried to book an animal encounter at the Vancouver Aquarium the weekend before the trip, the girl told me that weekend at the aquarium and surrounding areas will be extremely busy. The 100th celebration of Stanley Park is going on. They weren't even doing the animal encounters either.
