View Full Version : Private Verandah?

Can anyone fill me in on what the private verandah is like with the category 7 rooms? We had a 6 last fall and had a very nice patio with a view. They say it's an "enclosed" verandah.

Thank you in advance for any answers!

I have never had a navigator's verandah, but when i have read other folks views, I can only think of all good comments on this verandah type...

We did Category 5 on our first trip and have done Cat. 7 on the next 3. I'd only go for a 6 or 5 if there were no 7's left, and I absolutely had to sail on that date (or if I could pay for a 7 but get a 5/6). We usually try to book category 7 on deck 7. That way we get the deck we like, but don't have to pay for a category 5.

The verandah does have a partially obstructed view, but I felt you could still sit out there and see plenty. It's also open enough for you to feel the breeze. One of the pluses is that it's more private than the full verandah.

Say - how private IS the private verandah? DH and I have a navigator's verandah & toddler - we're kinda hoping to pull the curtains and have a little private mommy and daddy time out on the verandah during the DD's afternoon nap, know what I mean? ;) Or should I just not get my hopes up and count on sending DH out for a shore excursion while I curl up with a good book during naptime? :)

Cat. 6 and above is not very private, but the Cat. 7's are VERY private. We've only had one once, but we really enjoyed it.

Oh, I think it is that private. And that would be the only type of verandah that is that private.

I disagree about the privacy. We had a category 7 on the Wonder this past May and loved it (so much that we booked one for next May). Having said that while I was sitting out there I could look into our neighbors veranda through a gap. Not that I was intentionally looking, but sitting on the bench if I looked up I could see onto their veranda.

So I wouldn't do anything you might not want someone else to see (or at least check for gaps first) :)

heehee I'm loving this thread! My DH-2-b asked the same thing..."just how private is this deck" with a big grin on his face! :) Hated to let him down!

OK So are the categaory 7's THAT private or not. Just curious. We have a family of 4 so we will never know.

I was under the impression they were sufficiently private, but I'll defer to WDWLVR's judgement on this one.

Oh, my goodness!:earseek: ;)

Thanks for posting that there is no glass in the porthole. I was under the impression that there was.

ROFL!! OK, it sounds like with a modicum of caution, DH & I MAY be private enough since we have a category 7 - room 7626. Between the toddler and DH's teenage daughter from his first marriage who seems to ALWAYS be hanging around during naptime :( we have definitely learned that parents have to be willing to take a few risks sometimes, lol!!! Just keep a blanket handy for a quick coverup! :)

The Verandah Club!! This is too much!! :smooth: I'm sending this post onto DH-2-b...I'm sure he's gonna love it!

Denise...I know what you mean. With 6 kids, creativity and a certain amount of risk taking is a necessary evil! ;) Ah, well, a little spice in life never hurt anybody!

Denise, I definitely think that you should go for it! If you are concerned about someone seeing you, do it (no pun intended) at night. DH and I took a cruise for our honeymoon and just HAD to give the verandah a shot!!! We figured anyone who really wanted to watch that badly deserved what they saw (not a pretty sight, I'm sure!!!).

Have a fantastic time!!!

I was on the same cruise and deck as WDWLVR, also in a Cat. 7. She is RIGHT - There IS enough of a gap for your neighbors to see what's going on . . if they happen to look!

ROFL, yeah, and does it get us any discounts? ;) I think a discount for the Surial bath would be appropriate!!

Well, we will definitely have to investigate this matter further when we take our vacation end of September, and I promise to write back with a full (but PG!!) report on the suitability of Cat. 7 rooms for, uh, fresh air activities! (wink, wink)
