I'm an Emerald Club member, but I've reserved a compact car for my trip in October. The system switched me from Emerald Aisle to Counter service, which I expected since I wasn't renting at least an intermediate. I was thinking a few years ago, though, that at MCO they told you that you could bypass the counter and just go to the compact (or whichever class you reserved) aisle and pick out your car without going to the counter first if you were an EC member and had made the reservation ahead of time.

Am I remembering this incorrectly? Just wondering if I can bypass the counter if at all possible.

By the way, I'm fairly pleased with my deal. I got the compact car for 9 days for $184, which includes taxes. I used my DC membership and coupon. What I thought was strange, though, was that the supposedly cheapest class of car - economy - was actually going to be $216 for the same time period. I was able to use the coupon with the compact, but not the economy which makes up some, but not all of the difference. Go figure!?

I'm still going to keep checking back to see if I can eventually get Emerald Aisle at close to the same price as my compact, but there's about $100 difference right now that I just can't justify. It's just me and my mother, so compact is probably big enough for just the two of us. I think I got compact one other time and was able to get a 4 door Cavalier, which was plenty big for us.

I don't know if National's business his really picked up, or they're just sticking it to us renters. Last Nov we got a full size from the Emerald Club and it cost right at $200 for ten days. This year they're at $384...wayyy toooo high. Just gonna keep trying them and others until we find our price.

www.onetravel.com seems to have good rates, sometimes.

Good Luck
