Does anyone else do this?

We have had Tracey's Mam over for dinner and she just happened to ask roughly how much it would be to visit DLP. She kept saying just roughly as I pulled out the laptop and fired up Disneys, RS Transports and Easyjets websites up.

"Okay so when do you want to go?"
"I am not sure"
"Okay we will make it the end of January as it's cheap then"
"Errr i just want a rought price"
"So you will want to stay on property, I will price the Santa Fe"
"Err cant you just give me a rough price"
"Right so you will need a to get from CDG to SF, I will pirce a shuttle"
"I err, err"
"Right travelling 25th comg back 29th with transfers it will be £675"
"That's expensive
"YOU WHAT!!!!"
"Is that each?"
"Oh, no that's for 2 of you"
"That's not bad"
"Oh and it looks like you get free dining too"

If she had a debit card on her it would have been booked.

Yep, I'm pretty bad for that, especially at work.
I have to try really really hard not to get overbearing about it. I know when they start talking about going in school holidays or at weekends, and my face starts going :scared1::scared1: all on its own, that they just don't get me at all :lmao::lmao:.

Shhhhhhh, don't talk about school hols/weekends. ;)My eldest goes into top year Juniors next year so we only have two offpeak years left, this school year and next school year, I reckon as once he's into Secondary school I don't feel I'll be able to pull them out of school for a holiday. I'm :scared1:at the thought of it, even now!

Josh just went into reception so we have a few more years when I will be happy to pull him out for a week.

I am taking the kids out for 2 days in November to do the Christmas season for the first time, and yesterday I booked a week in Feb (during term).
I am excited and thrilled and yet at the same time there is a slight sadness because it is the last time we can go in term time. My daughter starts secondary school in September and so thats it. Dont know if I can afford the school holidays and even worse we will have to queue! :sad2:
In the summer I am going to try out camping near and see how I fair with the crowds.

maybe im a bad mummy but a week out of the whole school year at secondary school wont affect them if they keep ontop of their work all through the year and get good grades anyway during the year

i took my sister and her friend out of school to go to dlp and to be honest the school were not happy about it and they felt like they were being picked on after that. i dont think i would repeat that again. it was quite stressful getting the school to agree.

I totally agree that taking kids out of school for a few days wont kill them, but where as the primary schools round here allow upto 2 weeks, the secondary schools wont allow any time off.
I could now start one of my rants about only rich people being allowed holidays but i will spare you all:rolleyes:

I agree and I dont agree. My mums a teacher and hates it when parents take their kids out of school because it really disrupts her class. Shes a secondary school teacher and she says at the end of the day she has to take holidays when its school break and makes its expensive for her and kids are there to go to school so should take holidays during breaks.

I dont completly agree with her as I can see its very expensive during school holidays. I guess we will see my opinion once I have my own children.

Yes, I do this all the time at work. Thinking of setting myself up as a Disneyland Paris travel consultant - I reckon I'd make a fortune :lmao::lmao:

Going slightly o/t - i agree in general about not taking kids out during school time. I certainly won't be doing it for my eldest ds as it's exam year for him. For younger kids it not such a big deal. And a day either side of a holiday isn't a big deal either. But - the reason for me doing this previously is not because of the cost entirely - for years I really struggled to get leave from my work during the standard school/summer holidays. We can only have a certain amount of people off at the same time, and need to book a year in advance to get holidays in the summer!! It's not as bad as it used to be, but I've gone quite a few summers without a holiday in the past.

So if the government want to get picky about this, then they should ensure those with kids get priority for holidays during school times - not a popular suggestion with those at my work when I said this - but you can't have it both ways :rotfl::rotfl:

exam season i wouldnt no but the rest of the year. if teachers pick on a child becuase of it i would be reporting them

i wont get into 1 of my rants, but they are our children, its is our loves so . .

if it gets such a big deal when dd is at secondary school then i think she will have chicken pox, flu etc for a few days ;)

As my eldest (final GCSE year) is off to the states on an educational (yeah right !) school trip in January next year, I don't feel so bad about taking my youngest, final primary year out for the same week and if it happens to be snowing I'm sure the school will close anyway.
I'm really fed up of doing weekends at DLP because of the kids and school our last 3 trips have been weekend ones and they've been manic, crowds just a nightmare.
Surely DLP has to be a little less crowded mid week in January.
