I'm going to talk to DH this weekend, I'm going to check the sports schedules for the schools...and I hope I can come in for Friday/Saturday... it would have to be a quad as I know own a college kid! LOL

Z2H and I will be onsite during the 2010 Orlando SDV! (Celebration 25th anniversary trip/WDW family vacation/DCL cruise!) We'd like to meet up somehow (at least for a meal or two?) with you fun folks, even if we don't join you for the cropping. We'll have to see how the trip planning and budgeting works out...:sunny:
Pinball Family, that would be great. Try to earmark Saturday morning for the group character breakfast. I think Ohana's was mentioned. And you also have to see the crop room. It is amazing how some ladies set up their tables, almost like mini LSS.

The photos of the crop room from this past event were incredible! Since we'll be packing for a 12-day WDW stay, then the cruise, I think even *thinking* about also bringing crop stuff is crazzzzzy! (But that won't stop me, just slow me down a bit!)
We love Ohana's but have never done a breakfast there. Sat would be good as that's our last full WDW day before heading to the port on Sun a.m. So, we'll give some thought to doing one of the SDV local day options or maybe just buying meal tickets (it says spouses/children - but also friends?) from one of you with your reservations.

Meal tickets are outrageous- I would not suggest them- They are about $50-60 a day for 1 buffet meal- I would say that they are not at all worth it. While I would be willing to do that for you I just don't think it is worth it- planning on meeting us for a character breakfast on Saturday would be better- Friday night we will be doing tags for breakfast again I think- so maybe joining us for that.

If you can make it down I know a quad would be more afordable for me- I would also say that it doesn't make much oif a difference to add on Sunday's cropping - this year it cost $14 so we just decided to add it since it included breakfast (one of my favorite of the meals as I can always find more I like).

WOW! :faint: Thanks for the info - sheesh! Meeting up would be so fun (Z2H really enjoyed it this time) - so we'll just keep an eye on your planning and see how we can insert ourselves - nicely! - into your plans for sometime Fri/Sat.

That would be do-able... I'll talk to DH and keep you posted.. he knows I want to go; the kids also know I want to go... it's a time to do it for myself year since I have a significant birthday the month before...

Count me in! When DH picked me up this year I said "I really want to go next year" and he said "I figured" so I'm already planning! Right now it looks like we won't be traveling to Nepal until late 2010/early 2011.
Not sure about the roommate situation as of yet. If I can't convince DH to go with, then I'll need a roommate (or two).
I had a significant birthday this year, a few days before SDV - it's a great way to celebrate :goodvibes

I wasn't sure about going- as we are just at a lower income but DH asked if I wanted top go again and has agreed to help make it work. But I sill think having 2 roommates (or 3) instead of one would make it a lot easier.

That CMC of yours is such a slacker, ;) :rotfl2: especially today. Spent all day
Rooming with four people in one bathroom hasn't been a problem, heck last year we had five in our room. I have a picture of MomE, MomK and BAMB all in the bathroom using the vanities. Nancy and Stephanie, that would be awesome if you can join us.

Please add me to the list 'cause I really hope I can make it.

I LOVE Ohana so I'm definitely in for breakfast, too!

Awesome! This will be such fun! What is the ballpark cost pp for the breakfast - like $30? We've got an elaborate and colorful budget process going on for our WDW trip, so this event should be added. (At some point, I might post a pic of our savings wall - the kids love it and even DH is "into" it!!!)

Forgive me my lack of knowledge here...I'm a long time Disney Lover, but short time Scrapbooker! :goodvibes I've never paper scrapbooked, my first attempt at scrapbooking has been purely digital (I'm better at the computer, glue and sissors in my hands are dangerous weapons!) I'm just now getting the hang of it, but have been enjoying it imensely!
Anyway, can anyone tell me if digital scrapbookers are welcome at the SDV?
TIA!!

I know that Lisa did a little digital scrapbooking while at SDV this year- their is outlets available so my guess is that if you choose to scrap digitally that would be fine- you must bring duck tape to tape down any cords to the outlet and I would suggest an extension cord in case you are a little further from an outlet- at the Contemporary resort this year their seemed to be an outlet box between each set of tables but there were many less at the Yacht Club last year.
We would welcome you to join us at the Dis tables- I would check the FAQ on the SDV board (use one of the links from the 1st post of this thread) for more information from SDV itself. Most people I saw there were paper scrappers (asnd many had their whole rooms with them) but only SDV could answer for sure. My guess is as long as you put on your registration ou needed access to an outlet it would be okay but checking with Nancy at SDV is the only way to be sure (again she is not a member of this board so you would have to go to their site to do this.

I did see a few girls there with their laptops to use for the cricuts. So as long as you bring an extension cord and duct tape to tape the cords to floor I don't see why you couldn't do it.
If you decide to come, just send Nancy Bohrer and email telling her you want to digi scrap and ask if you could be seated near an outlet. We have one on either side of our table so I know there are plenty to be had.
BernardandMissBianca
09-18-2009, 10:57 AM
I added a link to dream events in the first post.
PinballFamily, breakfast was about $26, so if you budget between that to $30 pp you should be fine.
scrappy Tink, we would love to have you join us. I did digiscrap at the last SDV, I had a HUGE power outlet in the floor right behind me. I did bring an extension cord, and make sure you bring some duct tape in case your are further away from the power source. Don't want anyone tripping over the cord.

oh and do you want to be added to the breakfast list? It's at Ohana this time.
I most likely will be as I pretty much have gone digi. I do traditional only sometimes now. Typically I work on paper albums at SDV to give to teachers, para, etc at my daughters school. It is a great project to do there and I get it done before the holiday crazies.
Check out our thread from this years SDV, I posted (well New England Eeyore helped) a layout I did from pictures taken this year.
I ran into an absentee DIS scrapper today at our little pharmacy in town today. Turns out she will be in WDW the week of SDV and is toying with sending her men home as planned but she staying behind to crop with us! Com'on, Kristy, you know you want to!!!!

I bought the bind it all if we want to do another page swap for a book.

Wow, I finely finished the 2009 SDV thread! I have to say, it looks a little intimidating. I'm going to feel like a slaker, compared to all you hard-working paper scrappers! :sad2: I'm a little in awe of all the projects you guys did together, so please bear with me when we meet up in Aug. I promise I'm a quick learner, and will do my best to keep up with the group! I looked at the pics of the last meeting, it looked like so much fun! Here's some questions I thought of when reading the thread:
1. I think I read someone mentioning decorating the table? Do we do that, or just some other groups? Buffy mentioned to tell Nancy I was with the Dis Diva table. Is that our group name?
2. I noticed in the pics that there are some niffty cup holders on some tables. Do they sell those there, or can you buy one before hand?
3. A question near and dear to my heart: Did I hear someone mention brownies? :rotfl: Do we all plan a snack list, or just whoever feels like sharing something, bring it?
4. Okay, Lisa, where did your husband find hot pink duct tape? I have to get me some!
5. Do they try to group everyone's rooms together, so we can visit/room-hop easier?
6. I know the purpose of the meeting is scrapping, but do people generally take a break now & then and catch a parade or fireworks or anything at the parks? (I'm trying to figure out whether to get an annual pass or not, because me & DH will be going to the F & W Festival this year and I think an AP would be cheaper than buying tickets for each visit).
Well, that's all for now....tho I'm sure there's going to be a million other questions as the months progress, especially when we start making plans for make & takes (some of those were pretty intimidating looking, you guys look like such pros!) I just hope, being a digi-scraper (and a beginner at that!) that I can make a contribution to the group. :)
TIA!!
Kel

Well, that's all for now....tho I'm sure there's going to be a million other questions as the months progress, especially when we start making plans for make & takes (some of those were pretty intimidating looking, you guys look like such pros!) I just hope, being a digi-scraper (and a beginner at that!) that I can make a contribution to the group. :)
TIA!!
Kel
Bring on any and all questions.
Rebecca pretty much ran the make and takes. Minnie Ann did an adorable Tigger tag, and Pixie Dust did a great layout make and take. If you choose to contribute or bring a make and take that is fine, if not, don't worry about it. I myself brought some new papers that were out for distribution Sept 1st. I couldn't get my act together before SDV for much more than that. You may find one morning you are brushing your teeth and decide, wow, that would be great for us to do. This year was the first year we did make and takes.
The scrappers who are local bring in balloons to decorate the table. One year BAMB did a Mickey sillouette in green paper (DIS color). Yes, our name is DIS Divas.
Nifty cup holders can be purchased online beforehand and I believe some vendors do have it for purchase. Mine and my mother's is the CM Sidekick. I believe Memory Makers has one too. BAMB has that one, I think. The cup holders are great for keeping drinks off the tables and potential accidents. :scared1:
As far as snacks, everyone just brings something. (are you noticing a trend, we are pretty laid back, far from Divas!
My pink duct tape was purchased in CT thanks to BAMB's DH. I believe he got it at Wally World. I had a major suitcase malfunction on the way from CT to FL.:scared1:
As far as going to the parks, some people did, some did not, again, it's what people felt like doing. My Mom and Rebecca have developed a tradition of hitting the jacuzzi and water slide during an evening. Several ladies go to the parks for a lunch break. Mom and I arrive early and get our park time in before we start scrapping. You would be amazed how quickly the scrapping time goes by. There are classes that are offered, though this year the selection was limited. The rule of thumb is if you are going to WDW more than 10 days then APs are good to get.
Being that we are at the Contemporary, we can see the MK fireworks right outside the convention hall doors. :thumbsup2 Rooms were not grouped together. Some people were in the tower, some were in outer Mongolia, and some were staying at WL.

Thanks Lisa!! The more I read about the event, the more excited I get!! Sorry to hear about the suitcase malfunction! Guess the hot pink duct tape came in handy, eh? :goodvibes
I'll have to be on the lookout for the cup holders!! I'm already trying to think of ways to make my workspace "user friendly", though I won't have as much things to spread out besides my mouse and bamboo writing pad. But I want my space to be purdy too! :rotfl:

If you don't have too much and you don't gripe about your neighbors moving into the bits of space you are not working in then you'll just be a popular neighbor.
Seriously- we do tend to move into each others space a bit as we are working depending on what we are working on. I think Buffy was wanting us to have some table decor for the middle this year though- like a big sign. One of the groups had cute little flags for each member- it had their name (board name type I believe) on one side and the group name on the other.

No everyone was at the Contemporary- Lisa, Buffy, MomE, and Mom K got the furthest room from anywhere possible- they were across the canal from the Wilderness Lodge- the joke was that even though they were at the Contemporary if they had a path across getting things at the Wilderness Lodge would be closer than the Contemporary lobby.
Last year at the Yacht Club- I was in that spot as far to the far side of the building from the convention center as I could be. This year though Jennifer and I got lucky and were in a tower room. Some people even had tower rooms with an MK view- of course in the tower you get woken up at 7am by Chef Mickey's.

Thanks for clearing that up Rebecca! Guess it's just the luck of the draw how close you are. I wouldn't mind being by Chef Mickey's...I already sleep with earplugs because DH snores like a freight train! :headache:
Two of our ladies used their DVC points for lodging and booked the crop separately. That would be the only reason why someone would be at a different resort. ZtH and her beau happened to be there at the same time so she came to visit us for a bit. :)

Lisa,
I talked to AuntB on Friday and we got the ok to use the points for the days before SDV. I :lovestruc my aunt! We can book 11 months before at our home resort (Beach Club Villas) or 7 months before at any other resort. We are going to have to talk about this on Saturday. Ie: what resort, how many people (for how big a room). So exciting! :woohoo:

I'd love to get to know some of you better, before we meet in Aug. I know most of you have already met...would you mind sharing a little about yourself? I can start...
My name is Kelly...I just had my big 5.0. birthday in July (and boy was it hard!). I live with my wonderful Hubby Gregg (46, yeah, I'm a cradle robber!)We got married at the Shades of Green last May and are still on our Honeymoon
I work as a Criminal Intelligence Analysis for a federal law enforcement agency and Gregg does contract work, and works part-time with the local Sheriff's department. We have my two boys living with us...Jakey (DS-17), and Jon (DS-19), who will be joining the Army in February.
Oh, can't forget Max, my furry son who never talks back, and always wags his tail when I get home! :goodvibes Makes me wish all my sons were yellow labs! :yay:

:rotfl2: me too! Except last night his snoring was SO loud the earplugs did no good and I had to <politely> ask him to roll over a couple of times.
I think Lisa answered all of your specific questions. I brought cookies to share, and will probably do that again (now that I know MomE's favorite kind!). We were all pleasantly surprised by sweet gifts and treats from some of the other girls! I loved our little DIS break-out sessions! The only breaks from scrapping I took, other than eating and sleeping, were to unpack once our room was ready, change into jammies for Saturday night (love to crop in comfort), and I went to the gym on Saturday. For such a nice resort the gym could be better. The ceiling is so low that I swore if I went on too much of an incline on the treadmill my head would have hit the ceiling!
We live pretty close to Disney and go often so I didn't take time to go to the parks until DH got there Sunday afternoon. We stayed over and went to MK and EPCOT. Like Lisa said, you'll be surprised how quickly your time in the crop room flies by.
For introductions . . . I'm Jennifer (or Jen) and married my wonderful DH at Wilderness Lodge in 2005. This past August my odometer turned the big 4-0 and I am loving it! I tell everyone I'm 40, Fit, and Fabulous! I think it helps that I still get carded for beer at the grocery store :goodvibes I robbed the cradle a bit too; DH will be 36 next week. We are in the process of adopting a child from Nepal. It is a looooooong process and the DIS Divas have been incredibly supportive :grouphug:

I am Rebecca, I also live in Fl so I don't generally go to the parks during the scrap weekend- I just scrapped- that is how I finished as many pages as I did - well over 100.
My husband and I married in NC in 1999- we celebrated our 10th Anniversary with an amazing trip to the Grand Floridian this past June (it was so much cheaper than in July- our actual anniversary).
I taught 3rd grade until 2 years ago when we moved to a new area of Florida for my husband to start pastoring a church. I love being a pastor's wife although I am ready to find a little something more to do I think- of course since I felt that way I haven't had any time to try- I am driving a friend in the congregation around a bit this week- I head to Disney for a couple of days on Wednesday night- Dh has classes on Friday and Saturday. Next week my mom is coming up and we are heading to Disney for the food and wine festival Tuesday through Thursday. So when I have time I might look into something but right now I feel like I barely have time to keep up with my swap commitments.

That is so exciting about your future son/daughter. Do you have a information on your new child yet, or is the adoption still in the beginning stages? Congratulations!!
We're just starting. We were on a waiting list for a domestic adoption for over a year, but it just wasn't working out. We always wanted to adopt from Nepal and it all came together this year - they reopened to international adoption and we meet the criteria. I've been working on our international Home Study and Dossier to be submitted to Nepal in January 2010. It's a mountain of paperwork but will all be worth it!
Jen, I thought you just celebrated your big 3-0 birthday. Wow, you certainly are fit and fabulous. I did not realize you were 40.

My DH's birthday is next week and we were going to go on his birthday and get the gift card (since we have Passes) but he wants to wait and go to the F&W Festival in October, maybe stay over, and make it an anniversary trip.
We LOVE the F&W Festival! I don't make Disney albums anymore since we go so much. If I even take any pictures I just put them in our yearly book, but I made a specific F&W scrapbook a couple years ago. It's so much fun, and well, I love to eat!

Stephanie and I are going to be roomies :goodvibes That's cool that you honeymooned in Disney! We spent a few nights at WL after our wedding, but our families and friends were still in Disney, so it wasn't so much of a quiet, romantic, alone honeymoon time. We did go on an official honeymoon cruise. Not a Disney cruise, though, but we'll do that one once our child is old enough to enjoy it.
And yes, ZtoH is a baby ;) I met her for the first time when she stopped by SDV this year and what a nice girl. So glad you'll join us next year!
I really hope Buffy's feeling better :flower3:

Hi Lisa! I'm from Missouri (or should I say Misery?!) I've been working for the government for just about the same amount of time as you, most of it in law enforcement...isn't it nice when you hit the 8 hrs leave per pay period? Are you in NSPS? What a pain! I might be doing some training around the DC area (around Ft. Belvoir) next year.
LOL, you'll have to tell me how to get one of those 29-and-holding driver's license! I gotta get me one of those! :rotfl:
My son is going to be doing his basic training, and MP training at Fort Leonard Wood. I have mixed emotions about it, it's going to be hard to have him so close, but not able to see/talk to him. We figured it would be that way though, because Ft. Leonard Wood is home of the Military Police school. Thank you for the kind words, I'll pass them along to him!

Isn't it fun introducing new people to Disney?! It's nice that both your families are "Disney People". I talked DH (then DBF) into going the year before we got engaged. Hi Stephanie! We will be Newbies together! Everyone here is so welcoming, I know it's going to be fun. Our boys around the same age. Is your's a junior in high school too?
DH and I are actually going this week for his birthday and will be there for the opening of the F&W- we both really love it. I hope you enjoy it too.
Rebecca
Fun!! Do you guys have any special dinner ressies, or playing it by ear at the F & W Fest? I can't wait to taste all the new food!

I'm Ann. I'm also a federal (law enforcement) employee (almost 17 years now and yes, those 8 hours of leave per pay period are sweet!) and live in Norman, Oklahoma. I also converted my hubby to Disney on our honeymoon 13+ years ago at the WL. We are parents to two spoiled cats, Marius and Cosette, named after the couple in Les Miserables.
I've been a CTMH consultant for about eight years, but am just doing it as a hobbiest now to make more time for my own projects. Besides scrapbooking and stamping, I enjoy genealogy, cross stitch, playing the piano and alto sax, and planning WDW trips! Our next one is in December for all the special Christmas activities and my 46th (EEK!) birthday! I'm very involved at my church and with the OU Alumni Band, which has been a great way for me to keep in touch with my college buddies.
I had a great time at my first SDV but I was sick most of the time. Hopefully, I'll have better luck next year. Everyone I met from the DIS group was wonderful, and Lisa and MomE have converted me into a UConn women's basketball fan (as long as they aren't playing my Sooners).
I'm looking forward to SDV 2010 and all the fun planning between now and then!
Lisa, did I forget anything else? :rotfl2:
I don't think we caught your major. ;) :)
My DH's father was from Missurah. In fact this past summer we did have a conference in Kansas City which I opted out of. It was at the same hotel that collapsed back in 1980 where my DH's aunt and her husband died.
And yes, love the eight hours of AL. and no, not NSPS.

MinnieAnn, I did not know you are a CTMH consultant, nor did I realize you were a Fed, nor did I know you are into genealogy. I know of a regional genealogy conference coming in March to MA. It is free to register, and I realize that it is too far for you, but if you register, you can get the ematerials of all the sessions given, you don't have to attend. When the registration call comes out I will let you know. I'll have to remember to post it on the genealogy thread we have over at the FUN of It forum. MomK and I went two years ago, I thought it was really good.
MomE and I stand true, if our UConn girls can't win, then we want the OK girls to win!!! Besides, we love Stacy Hansmeyer. If the finals come down to the two teams though, sorry, all gloves off.:rolleyes1
This is turning into a very informational thread. Thanks, Kelli, for bringing that about.

I am a Psychology/History double major, with a minor in Government, and possibly another minor if I have time for it, which I think I will. Otherwise I may graduate in three years instead of four (I'm just that cool :lmao:).
More like that cool and THAT SMART!!!! :thumbsup2

The BEST part of all is that she is on a full-four-year free ride Honors Program scholarship - worth about $120K! No student loans (at least for undergrad) for her -- or her poor, impoverished parents who simply must spend all their extra money on scrapbook supplies :wave2: -- to pay back!
Yes, she's mine (!) and I'll post a short bio later -

WOW, it's weird how we have so much in common....profession-wise anyway! :goodvibes I don't know what CTMH is? Sorry to hear you were sick last year.
I'm so envious of you guys that get to go to WDW around Christmas, I'm dying to see all the decorations and lights....*sigh*...maybe next year! I hope you and hubby have a great visit for your birthday!

KC is a fun place to visit, St. Louis is closer to us, so that's our stomping ground when we want a little culture! That is so sad about DH's aunt and uncle. :sad1:

I just wanted to thank all you guys for sharing, it's nice getting to know you and find some of the things we have in common...from snoring husbands :headache: to professions, to hobbies, to places we live (BTW Lisa, did I mention I used to live in CT too? I lived in Madison, and worked up at Groton for 3 years 98-01.) Really miss the New England falls! I have a sister that lives in Laconia, NH, which is a wonderful place to go leaf-peeping! And as strange as it sounds Anne, I also lived in Midwest City, OK (84-87), so we were practically neighbors too! I had a good friend I worked with that lived in Norman. Her name was Donnita Dagg, it's a small world, maybe you knew her?
Well, I need to put in my ear plugs and go snuggle up with Hubby for the night...it's going to be a long day at work tomorrow. We are being inspected, and it's a pain in the patootie! wish me luck!
You'all have a great night!

Alright, I just got yelled at by my roomie that I have not introduced myself yet. So I figured I better do it before I get beat up! :lmao:
My name is Diana. I have been married 8 years. I have a dd who will be 3 end of next month and a ds who is 16 months. And my first baby, Tucker, he is an Australian Cattle Dog.
I work as a computer consultant on a Helpdesk. When people break their puters, I try and help them to fix them.
I have lived in CT all my life (I am 37). Until I was like 32 I had lived in the same square 1/2 mile my whole life, pathetic, I know. I was so excited when I moved one town over. I felt like such a hell raiser! :rotfl:
I go to Lisa's crops because they are like 10 minutes from my house. I had met her on the disboards a few years ago. Went to a crop she was a part of, not hosting. Those people at that time were way CM natzis and I could not take it so I never went back. :rolleyes1 Went to CK Hartford and noticed a bunch of noisy women in the Disney class and one had this really pretty paper. Now I never ask people anything, I am normally a very quiet person. I decided to ask this woman where she got her paper and she told me and I left the class. A few minutes later I get tackled by this woman and she asked me if I was Diana and she said she was Lisa where I used to scrapbook! I have been going to her crops ever since and she even lets me go out and play with her once in while too! :flower3::hug:
Going to Disney in December with my mom and aunt and kids. And can't wait for SDV next year. Which reminds me, I need to go do my deposit right now. I almost forgot. :scared1:
There Lisa, now you can't beat me up! :cool2:

OK, I'll be next!
I'm Marylee and I am a member of the cradle robber club.
I passed the 5.0. milestone a few years ago. My snoring hubby is 49. We've been married for 6 1/2 years and are an Eharmony success story. Before Texas, I lived in Atlanta GA & West Palm Beach FL.
The kiddos are DS16 (lives with us), DD17 (doesn't live with us), and 2 four legged princesses princess:princess: (a white/yellow lab & a black lab/border collie mix) who are both 4 years old.
DH is an IT Director and is the administrative pastor of our church.
My DH was introduced to Disney (by me!) before we married. He needed to know what he was REALLY getting into! :lmao: He fell in love with the atmosphere of Wilderness Lodge.
Good thing - since that's where I bought into DVC when single. He likes it so much that we have a room of furniture from the lodge in our home in Texas ... and we're S-L-O-W-L-Y
redoing our home to be mission/lodge like. If you see a carved totem pole, let me know! :rotfl2:
My working outside the home is as an independent contractor (merchandising and mystery shopping.) I did work full time before marriage, but DH & I agreed that it would be better that I be
at home after school for his then 11 & 12 year old kiddos. No complaining from me! :rotfl:
The 2009 SDV was my second. And I am SO looking forward to 2010!!! :woohoo:
And to give credit where it's due, it was MinnieAnn that did the layout for our Make & Take at the SDV! :thumbsup2

When Disney did a furniture refurb several years ago - it was on Ebay!
It was sold by the room and individual pieces.
So we're kinda at WL even when at home! :dance3:

That's so cool that you got the furniture! We wanted to do that too, since we were married on Sunrise Terrace and spent the first few nights of our honeymoon at WL, but we didn't have room in our house. We love WL! Even if we don't stay at WL we visit Sunrise Terrace whenever we're at Disney.

Hi all!!
count me in on the list of those going next year! I'll be there for breakfast too - I have never had breakfast at 'Ohana so I'm looking forward to that!
I live in Mass with my DH of 14 years (well our Anniversary is in 2 weeks!) and our twin DS who are 10. Our furry children are a black cocker spaniel who is just about 14 and a 6 month old springer spaniel puppy!
We are Disney addicts! We used to visit Disney 2 to 3 times a year, but now that the boys are older and my husband is a teacher we can't go during the school year. Now we are limited to the 2 weeks in August that we go down. We own DVC and my part time job is a travel agent that specializes in Disney because I just can't talk about it enough!
My first SDV was in 2004 - the year of Hurricane Charley! I have gone every year since. The crazy thing is that Orlando is the only SDV I have made it to and the New England SDV is held in Burlington, MA which is only about 45 minutes from my house!
I have been sitting with the Groovy Chicks for years at the SDV and the past 2 years I have been getting to know the DIS ladies. They are a fabulous group that I am thrilled to get to know!
Can't wait for August 2010!!!

Kelli, I worked in Groton in 2000! At the subase. The fall foliage is starting. I love the fall and the change of leaves. We know Laconia, last week was the race. I feel for your sister with all that traffic.
That is too funny! I worked for NCIS (back when nobody knew what it stood for!) at Groton in 2000! I always got choked up when the subs would come up the river with the guys standing on top with the flag waving. Yeah, my sister complains every year about the traffic during bike week.

Your family sounds lovely, it must be so nice having your mom next door too. Mine lives in Michigan, so I'm lucky to see her once a year.
I'm really looking forward to the trip in August, I have a feeling it's going to be the first of many. :)

Hi everyone,
:) I can't wait to be a vendor again next year for the SDV event. I'm so bummed that it's a day shorter though. Anyway, I'm starting to do more and more events. If anyone knows of any scrapbook retreats, please let me know. I can't seem to find much out there!
We just got back last week from Disney. I went up on Monday with my 5 year old princess, Angelina. Then on Tuesday, my in-laws, my husband and my 10 month old came up to join us for the Not So Scary Halloween party. It was my baby girl's first trip. She had fun, but we didn't get to go to a character meal though. My husband is pretty cheap and my husband's father is the king of cheap. So that's why we didn't go. Anyway, when we got back, I had to get ready for a weekend retreat from October 2 - 4th in Deerfield Beach. It was great. I'm so addicted to these things :) So please if you hear of anything, LET ME KNOW :)

Hey DIVA's....I can't believe I stumbled upon this thread....
I love to scrapbook and I absolutely love WDW :lovestruc
I wanted to go to the 2009 SDV after seeing it online, but everyone I mentioned it to laughed at me saying I could just scrap at home or at a local crop and save myself the aggravation. But to me it sounded like a dream-come-true.
See, I've only started scrapping about a year ago. My oldest child is turning 9 soon, and i wasn't sure where to start. The beginning? Impossible! Too much stuff! I'd surely never catch up! The most recent, and work my way backwards? Not that realistic with 3 kids....just too much material! So, I decided it would be vacations. I would start with our vacations. Believe it or not, Disney is the only place we've ever gone as a family. 5 times, plus 2 cruises. So, I still had my work cut out for me.
Unfortunately I don't get as much time to crop as I would like. So far I've only gotten 1 vacation done. the trips come along faster than the completed books do, but I'm still having fun :goodvibes
It's good to know that you all seem to have so much fun at the SDV event. There is just something magical to me about the idea of scrapping my Disney trips in Disney!! I really would love to attend this event. I will have to see if I can get DH onboard with the idea since we just bought into DVC this week :woohoo:
Maybe I should wait a week or two before bringing it up
Anyway, thanks for "listening" to my story and I sure hope to meet you guys next August!! Is anyone looking for a roommate at this point?? I need to really look at the price differences for the local package & the one with lodging. Maybe I'll stay on points at Bay Lake Towers since that is our home resort.

Hey there nu2dvc! Welcome and we would love to have you- I know I really need to look at a room for 3 or 4 to afford going this year myself- not all the rooming is taken care of yet.
The local packages aren't bad if you are going home but as a DVC owner I can't justify spending the points along with the money- but then I live here in FL so I can use up my points each year easily. They are not that far off the price of staying at the hotel (of course without a roomie I might think about it).

Hi Rebecca, thanks for the welcome.
Yeah, the prices aren't too far off I see. I guess it would depend on the roomie factor. I know eating up a weekend's worth of Points wouldn't be fun :scared1:
I actually plan on avoiding Fri & Sat stays on points b/c of the premium they force on you to for weekend stays. Figured I'd do split stays and cough up the cash for weekends.
I think 3 to a room at Contemporary would be perfect cause then everyone could have their own bed....
but I think I'd be happy to sleep on the floor if it meant that I could do this event!
I read over the '09 thread so I could see the pix and it looks like the Disney Diva's had a great time.
I will stay tuned around here to see how the plans shape up and if anyone is looking for a roomie :goodvibes And unlike all your husbands, I don't snore!!
And unlike all your husbands, I don't snore!!
:rotfl2::rotfl2: Let's just say out of kindness I will be considering bringing earplugs for my roomies next year.
nu2dvc, it's wonderful for you to join us on the SDV thread, hopefully you can join us at the crop. It is sooo much fun. :thumbsup2

Welcome!! You are going to love it here, everyone is so warm and welcoming!I'm new this year too, and also have a problem finding time to scrap (I digi-scrap)! I'm really looking forward to the event next year, it's going to actually force me to sit my butt down and do what I love to do, instead of finding a ba-zillion things around the house that need to get done instead!
I'm with you about the points being too much for the weekends. I think, personally, I would save the points for your next family vacation. We just bought 85 points at WLV, and 75 points at BWV (BWV was a small re-sale contract, and that enabled us to buy a small WLV contract from Disney). I'd like to extend my stay for a couple of days (Sun & Mon) and try BLT. I'm dying to see the fireworks from the Top of the World Lounge!
Hope to see you in August!! :yay:

I know it's OT, but I'm so excited and had to share!! Christmas came early at my house, and sweet, wonderful, hubby bought me a new laptop!! :yay: He got me a Dell 17" Studio, and I LOVE it!! Now I can start scrapping again without the horrible lines on my screen. (I accidently ran over my last laptop with my car :headache: .)
Can't wait to start looking for new backgrounds and embellishments to scrap our first MNSSHP!! :woohoo:

Hi -- new to this idea, altho I've read the thread from last/this year before (sorry I didn't know about that one earlier). Haven't ever gone to a crop or an event like SDV, but it sounds pretty fun. Recently started scrapbooking again, including entering the world of Cricut, and it seems like it would be helpful to attend something like this -- going to WDW for it sounds much more fun than driving over to Durham.
Do you "accept" new folks into your group, and is there a "primer" ? -- Looks like you have some of your own activities. It certainly would be better for me to have some people to hang around with, than being totally on my own (haven't found a scrapping group locally yet). I haven't looked at the rez form yet -- how do you specify that you want to be in the same area as others from DIS? (BTW, have you done lime green t-shirts in the past :) ?).
Do any of you do the local option? Would I miss out on much doing that? (I'm a friendly, sociable sort, but not a good roommate in a hotel room).
All are welcome, no one would be turned away. Several of the ladies do the local package and book their room either with their DVC points or directly thru Disney.
We generally meet up at the tables to scrap and do a character breakfast that any and all can join in.
We've done blue and pink shirts but not green, but we are open. We you book your reservation just put down you want to be with the DIS group.
It will be great to have you join the group. :grouphug:

We are happy to add members to our group. As Lisa said when you book- you just need to let Nancy know that you want to be with the dis group and also give Buffy your name (full name by pm) so that when she requests seating she adds you to our group list- we will probably be at 2-3 tables next year if everyone comes that is planning on it.
We always do a breakfast together- everyone is invited to come.
This year we did some make and takes on our own and I think everyone enjoyed that so we will probably plan on doing a few next year too.

Hey everyone,
I'm Pam - I live in Chicago. I have been attending SDV Orlando since 2005, but found the DIS group in 2007. I am a High School Special Education administrator for the city and luckily school doesn't start until after Labor day, so I am able to go with DH for a road trip the week before school starts to Scrap.
We have done both the SDV package and the Local packages. This past SDV we booked a room at WL so DH could chill at the pool while I took the boat back and forth to the Contem. I figure out what I would pay with the AP discount vs the SDV group rate since my other half is not scrapping.
I love to scrap, but since packing can be a pain, I have begun to work on cards the last few years at SDV. Birthday cards, holiday cards, and thank you cards. I give them as gifts and use them myself, so its been a productive weekend.
I look forward to seeing many more faces this year!!!

My parents live on the Eastern Shore in MD (about an hour from Baltimore) and we will be heading to visit them (after we visit Dh's parents in NC). We will be there for a few days to see my brother, SIL, and their children before my brother ships out to Iraq- my SIL and the kids are moving in with mom and dad. My borther and SIL from Boston will be down for a day or 2 of our stay as well. Mom and Dad will be here for Chirstmas and leave early the day after to get ready for all their company- Dad wanted to hear my DH preach Christmas Eve again.

I learned a lot that was really good and I have used but it might have only been great because of the complaints that Buffy and Lisa lodged.

DH and I usually head down early to hit some parks, then He and I will go for meals at the parks during SDV. WDW sells a convention ticket which is a pretty good deal if you don't have tickets or an AP. I got that for Dh last year and it worked out great. This year SDV is only for the weekend, so I don't know how much running around I will do, in the past I did a longer SDV so I had "breaks" in my day.

I saw that usually SDV is 4 days, but this year it's 3- figures the year I want to come to it- it's less time. LOL We are going to try to fly down EARLY Thursday morning and then go to a park that day- probably MK- then have dinner in the park later.
Where do I fund out about the convention ticket?? I was thinking of buying an annual pass- because I know we'll go within a year of then- and also I get DVC discount- but the convention one might be a better deal.
The convention tickets are cheaper. You will be able to get info on that when the time is closer. If I remember correctly there was a link from the SDV site to purchase convention park tickets.
I got those two years ago, you can get half day, full day, hopper or none. Just don't get more than you can use, the passes have about a three month expiration date on them.

I got those two years ago, you can get half day, full day, hopper or none. Just don't get more than you can use, the passes have about a three month expiration date on them.
Thanks so much!! I definitely am in planning mode now- we have 4 people going now- so I guess we're getting a quad- I know our room will probably be crowded- but I don't think we'll be there too much anyway. :goodvibes

Wow - that is early, but we're usually up early and ready to hit the parks at rope drop anyway! We'll have to cab it over to the Poly from POR to meet up with you guys, since we don't think the buses don't run that early. (Sob...still have our ressies at POR - can't really justify our fave YC on this trip since we're doing the cruise too....) We've already planned enough splurges on this trip - so gotta compromise somewhere. $164/174 a night compared to $450 (x11 nights) - HUGE difference. And, hey, its WDW - it's all good! (And as of today, 68% paid/saved for!) :cool1:

Actually buses to MK for character meals/tours start at 6-6:30 am so you could take a bus to MK and the monorail from there to the Poly but it will take longer than a taxi- when you get on the bus the driver sometimes asks where you are going and brings you directly there.

That's a good idea. I didn't think the buses started that early - thought it was only an hour before the parks opened... We'll check into it - thanks, Rebecca!

We could have an international flare to our tables!!!

I think pennant flags would be great. A DIS one, a Nepal one, an American one, etc. then we could tape them to thin dowels and place them strategically between shelves on the table.

I fly too. I kit everything, I also limit to a certain event, say Christmas or Disney so if I do have extra things I can use them on other pages. I carry my kits on because I would die if my pics were ever lost in the airport abyss.
I ship my sharp tools via Fed Ex (you will need an account number to ship back though). I've heard that even though they are in checked luggage things have been swiped in the name of security. But Lisa checked her stuff and it was fine so you can go that route too.
Since you are coming with Friends go through your big tools that you don't use often (hole punch, crop -a- dile, etc) and have one of each. Make sure you each have your own trimmers though.
Mom and I fly Southwest so we get 2 carry ons and 2 personal so I pack 1 bag with both clothes and one bag with scrap supplies. Then the personal item is the tote of the bag that Jen got. It holds a ton of stuff so I use that for over flow, fanny pack, and a book.
Here is what I took last year, I shipped the tote and carried on the bags.

It <just fits> or else DH would be saying "uh, that's great, but where are you going to keep it?" because it's been in the hall for the last few days. He'd want to put it in the garage - the horror :scared:
Now I'll end up buying all the accessories that go with it - maybe that was my CMC's hidden agenda ;)

I think it's 17x17x20 and has a pull-out handle and two straps for lifting, so if that will fit the carry on dimensions, it probably would work.

For a while there, it looked like I wouldn't be able to work out going -- but now I think I will be. Just waffling about lodging and dates for spending more time in the area.
Do any of the packages, or local day combos sell out? (How soon do I need to make up my mind?)
I won't be looking for a roomie (I'm not a very compatible roommate, snoring, etc.) and the breakfast at Ohana is way too early for me to get going in the morning (altho it does sound like a lot of fun).

I've never seen them sell out, not saying they can't but I haven't seen it yet. Especially in this economy, the room was pretty empty last year.
As for when to make up your mind, the final payment is due in early June. So if you book after that, you have to pay in full. Not sure how you budgeted. I made my deposit ($75) and will pay the rest along til June.
