View Full Version : How do you avoid CC charge when making on-line ressies?

This may have already been answered, but I'm looking for a quick answer. I made all our ADR's on 8/27 and got most everything we wanted. Then we decided to extend our holiday by adding 2 days on the front of it because flights were so much cheaper. Since we got 2 extra dining credits doing this I thought I try to get a CRT ressie. Of course there haven't been any, but today I found a late lunch one on the day that I wanted to go. When I put it in my cart it said it would charge my CC $193. We have eaten at CRT before while on the DDP and our CC was not charged but just used as a hold. I called Disney Dining and the CM I talked to said she had never used the on-line system and didn't know. She asked someone else and he said he had used it once and thought there was a box to check that you are on the DDP. I couldn't find it anywhere. Does anyone know how this is done without charging your CC?

Thanks,

You may not be able to.

There is no box online to check that says you are on the DDP. That box appears only on the system the phone agents use, which is not the same as the one we use online.

If the online system will not register that you are on the dining plan even after you entered your resort reservation number while booking, you might have to do your booking for CRT by phone, or pay the full price and have it refunded when you arrive at the restaurant.

This cannot be avoided online. It is to ensure you show up due to popularity.

We do have reports that some people booking online were able to do it, because the system recognized from their resort reservation that they were on the dining plan. However, apparently nine out of ten times the system apparently doesn't recognize the plan even if you have it on your resort reservation. If it doesn't, you really don't have any alternative but to either pay and refund later or book by phone.

I tried closing my shoppping cart and then seeing if CM could pull up the ressie time and she couldn't. So I thought I'd lost the ressie. I went back into the system and played around with it and after about 15 minutes got it to bring it back up. This time I did attach my ressie number and I still had to pay the guarentee. So I guess this is some glitch in the system.:confused3 I also gave a guarentee when I booked Akershus, but my CC was not billed.

So what is the process for getting your CC refunded when you are on the dining plan?

Thanks again,

When you get to the restaurant, tell them you will be paying with dining plan credits and your payment should be refunded.

Akershus is not a prepayment. They always require just a credit card hold. CRT, however, requires full prepayment.

Thanks so much for the helpful info.

I would call Disney and have them book CRT for you with your dining credits then have them cancel and refund your old reservation. You shouldn't have to pay in full for any of your ADR's when you are on the DDP. We have ADR for Hoop-Dee-Doo and didn't have a pay anything up front.

Thanks for this good advice. I just wanted to send an update on how I resolved this if it might happen to someone else.

According to the CM that helped me today, if you attach your resort ressie to your dining ressie before you put it in the cart, the system will recognize you are on the DDP and not charge your CC. It is possible that I didn't attach my resort ressie since I was going in and checking for a CRT ressie a couple of times I day I didn't bother to retrieve my ressie and got so excited when I saw it I just added it to the cart. The CM was able to cancel the CRT ressie I made on-line and immediately retrieve it and note that I was on the DDP. She said doing this there was a small chance that the ressie might be taken during the process but it took less than a minute so we had no problems.
So now my CC has been credited for and we still have the ressie at CRT with CC being used to guarentee the ressie and noting that we will be using dining credits.

Thanks again for the help resolving this. I was not wanting to pay the $193 up front and then get it credited at the meal. This seemed like a pain so this was a much better resolution for us.

This is actually not true. I know because I tried to avoid the charge this morning and definitely had all my ducks in a row as far as having my resort reservation number attached etc. and I still got charged. The CM this morning had to cancel mine and rebook it. It wasn't a big deal because I caught it early otherwise there probably wouldn't have been other times left and I could have risked losing my ressie. FYI!

From what I understand, this is an ongoing issue with the site.

It seems to be a problem with CRT.

We had no problems with HDDR. Even had to do it twice as we had to add another person and then cancel the first ADR at HDDR.
