Yes but they are going to have new ones near the entrance to the park.

Pixie Hollow is going to be a massive hit as the fairys are extremly popular, people queue for hours to meet them . It is easy to move Mickey & Minnie. This is a fantastic idea for Disney updating to the currant market, aslong as they keep the classics in like Peter Pan.

Oh wow, part of me quite sad, part quite happy they're re-developing.

Sad because MY childhood Fantasyland will be gone, happy because it all helps with continuing to make Disney bigger and better and will hopefully help compete with HPW at Universal.

I think the only time I'd see the new area though is when I maybe have my own price or princess, as after next year's trip, I can't see anymore in the near future at all :sad1: I shall have to live it through the pictures as they emerge! :)

yeah I think they need to be careful still apeal to the nostaligic guest as alot of older people like the rides that remind them of their childhood, so hopefully it is done to appeal to the new disney generation as well as keeping some of the well loved classics.

Well I would do Disneyland in 2012 when the California Adventure refurb is done, then maybe WDW for this the year after!!

It will be 2013. It is our silver wedding anniversary that year and we planned on doing New York, Vegas and California. WDW will be 2014 or 2015. Can I wait that long? ;)

looking at some of the pictures looks like a very DLP fantasyland fairytale look which should be fab. I never warmed to Fantasyland at MK so I think this is going to be a massive improvement.:thumbsup2

It does looks like they will be keeping the old rides too?

Ooh looks like they're moving Voyage of the Little Mermaid over from DHS, wonder what will replace it there...?
It all looks really exciting! I like the idea of 2 Dumbos (should ease the queues a bit!) and areas for each princess :)

do little boys not like meeting princesses?:goodvibes

Maybe they have plans in the studios with the Marvel characters, though I would prefer Pixar characters.:)

Apparently there are plans to have some of the Disney villains there as well.

Chris Beatty, a senior concept designer with Walt Disney Imagineering, said a goal is to make the company's iconic princesses appealing to a wider demographic. For example, some villains from the princesses' movies will also be incorporated to help the area appeal to boys.

I interpreted "Mickey and Minnie will find new homes near the entrance to the park" as meaning they would make appearances there, rather than having bespoke houses built. I can't see where they would do that. Even if there was space, it wouldn't fit the theming in that area.

Apparently there are plans to have some of the Disney villains there as well.
Yeah, but it sounds like an afterthought. The merchandising power of Disney Princesses and Disney Fairies is clearly huge and I can see why that alone would be a strong factor in the decision-making process. Why not devote the new Fantasyland to those and Disney Villains in equal measure, though? They certainly fit the fantasy theme.

Fantastic and just in time for when we take DD for the first time - she will be 5 and hopefully will love the fairies/princesses... great news and great news that Star Tours will be updated by then too. :goodvibes

Hope Star Tours isn't closed for refurbishment in April 2010! My DBF is a HUGE Star Wars fan, and this ride was a big factor in him agreeing to go! :scared1:

Disney villans doesn't seem to be something that is marketed even at boys, Villans just seems to be somthing added to the princess play set figures.

Looking in the Disney store they have mostly Pixar stuff for boys like Cars & Toy Story. I think they could do something with this at the Studios & have a pixar land or something.:confused3

Also in response to that this is to compete with HP at US, I just don't see it as HP appeals to a wider audiance than princesses, for example younger kids, teenagers and adults where as I can't see a Harry Potter fan like my sister being wowed by Fantasyland.

Well with two little girls and no tripto WDW planned until 2014 this sounds great to me. Will go have a look in more detail after dinner!
