Hi Ladies!
So Mum asked if we had one going on and I think it's a good idea. Anyone wanna play??
Lets see......
how do we want to do it?
send 4 bags get 4 back?
do we have to say they all have to be the same size?
(target has 2 types. i regular size and a big one that folds up and snaps?)
groups or no groups?
they don't weigh much so do you want to send 6 get 6?
mail to me and i'll mail back to everyone?
ideas/ comments?

I would have a set send in _____ and get back _____. Maybe do 1 group for small and 1 for large bags. I would have everyone in each size in the same group and send them back a random assortment.

I'm in, can I hand-deliver them to you? ;)
party of 3
09-12-2009, 08:10 AM
ok that will work! thanks Rebecca.
of course you can hand yours to me!
now how many 4 or 6?
i myself vote 6. they are usually not much money and they should not be too heavy to mail back out.
and i like rebecca's idea of 2 groups. large and small.
morgansmom2000
09-12-2009, 08:21 AM
4 or 6 is fine, they are inexpensive. I like the idea of small and large too. But think I'd prefer groups of 4 if there are two different sized groups. I've got a very small one, about 6x8? Is that the small you are thinking of? Or, is small the regular size from Target, Kohl's, Stop & Shop, etc., and large is the mungo hugo ones from Disney Store?
party of 3
09-12-2009, 08:30 AM
i thinking the small is the regular one and the large is the one that folds up and snaps shut.
so can i open this swap up in this thread or do i need to start a new one?
where is the very small one from??
rlovew
09-12-2009, 08:38 AM
Go ahead and use this thread- just add open to the title so people know to sign-up. Due date can be within a few weeks as it doesn't take work to do these. If the person asking for the swap doesn't come back by Monday you may want to send her a pm.

party of 3
09-12-2009, 08:47 AM
ok i'm going to host this and do 2 different size groups.
small/regular-
which is usually the ones from the grocery store
and
large.
sometimes the fold up and snap and some don't but are clearly bigger. they don't have to fold and snap.
you send in 4 bags for either or both groups and get 4 back @ random.
how about a due date of Oct 1st?
does this work?
just let me know which group you want to be in.
this sounds like fun. i hope we have some more people join in!

So, the small is the regular one from Stop & Shop and Target (and the same size from The Disney Store), and the large is the snappity one from Kohl's? Am I reading correctly?
I got the really small one as a freebie from...Nature's Bounty I think. It's like a lunch bag size. Doesn't really hold much.
party of 3
09-12-2009, 08:59 AM
yup the small is the one that is usually $1.00 and is at stop and shop, target....
and the large one is clearly bigger than that one but does not have to snap up. just bigger. it is ok if they do snap but the don't have to. like my jo's one is bigger and does not snap.
make sense?
i have a really small tote bag from the xmas tree shop that i just love. not the same as these, but oh so darlin'.
morgansmom2000
09-12-2009, 09:09 AM
Okay, put me in each group then. You may want to change the due date to say, October 15th, so our overseas friends have plenty of time to shop and mail. Just a thought ;)

So Target & Walmart ones are out right? Since everyone can find those kind? Local grocery stores should be okay?

glad to have you with us AWM. which group would you like?
i think that's a good idea about walmart and target. i'd like to see different ones also. yes local grocery store one's will work. i'd like to get some at shaw's ( a local grocery store) because they are pink and have the breast cancer ribbon on them. -not sure if they are still using that one. i know mom had one of them.

I "sew" too. I say "sew" because it's nothing fancy or special, just basic basic stuff (I have no idea how to even read a pattern). And, I can guarantee none of the seams will be straight.
I'll keep an eye out for fun clearance fabrics (anyone know if Joann's is having a half off clearance fabrics sale?). I can usually get two totes out of one yard. I do need to go to Ryco for the webbed handle stuff...Now that I think about it, I may have two already cut and mostly pieced, just need the webbing.
You all make me

I'm a sucker for a swap!!!!:rotfl2: Sign me up!!! :thumbsup2 I found some really cute cloth bags at Petsmart. They are cloth, bigger than the grocery store ones, and cost more too so I think they would be considered large. Hopefully they will be a good swap for Jennifer's homemade ones. Those are awesome!
I'm still trying to find something for the small category. The ones from my grocery store are plain and dull - green with the store name across the front. Is that what you want or do you want something cuter?
When are you closing sign-ups? I'll keep looking to see what I can find.

I picked up the van tonight and DH will go over in the morning with the credit card to pay the mechanic...I don't want to know how much the new brakes will cost...
I'm up answering DIS PMs - I posted several coupons that I'll mail out to folks - and then took a break to watch some tv and then couldn't log back in to the DIS, and the messages piled up! It just isn't my day...

Me, you, AWM, Mum, and DIT send in 4 bags each. I would get one of yours, one of AWM's, one of Mum's and one of DIT's, but not one of my own.
But, I guess it doesn't matter how many are in a group, just you don't get one of your own :lmao: Clear as mud?

Have we decided how many bags/groups? (Plus an extra one for morgansmom if she can find her fabric;) ) And those bags which are basically just a slightly stronger carrier bag are definitely out - we're looking for some sort of gusset with webbing or strengthened handle and generally robust construction (seams!)

MM2000, how large does the fabric need to be? I have some that I have been saving that I can send to you. I have some Clifford. :rotfl2: Don't ask. I have no idea why. None of my boys liked Clifford that much. :rotfl2:
OMG! Bubba loved and still loves Cliff. Our Cliff has been to WDW twice, Sesame St.Place, New Hampshire.....he goes on every trip with us. Ma bought him a big GIANT one that I managed to throw away.....ssssshhhhh
Good idea AWM. I have a bunch of fabric too. Some are small (fat quarters), but some are bigger pieces. I know I have Mickey Mouse fabric and cats and I'm not sure what else. I can send you some too.
Mickey Mouse fabric! cool!

Let me measure what I've got and let you know. I generally use a thicker (home decor) fabric for the outside, so it's sturdier, and a thinner fabric for the lining. Clifford would make a good lining, I bet ;)

Okay, I measured the pieces I had cut out already. I need them to be about 18 inches wide by 32 inches tall. I could work with smaller pieces, but it would probably take me longer and I don't know if I'm *that* good ;)
Oh, and here's my "regular" sized bag.

Love those bags!
I bought my charity bags yesterday - not sure if they're small or large, you could get a big box of cereal in plus some other stuff. [I've taken pics but need to post them - currently looking for my battery charger (can't find eIther one - one camera has a rechargeable battery, one takes normal batteries but I have rechargeables in). I thought I'd used them since I fgot back but DH is going to check in the bags in the loft.]
They're green, and fold up to the size od a Cd case (or maybe slightly larger). I'm going up the High Street tomorrow - Superdrug had some nice fabric ones with a sort of 70s girl on in aid of Breast Cancer, or Morrisons have some with apples (I think) on them.

 No go on the pink denim. I put things away and don't remember where.
I did find this awesome Waverly print. I think I have 4-5 yards of it.
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q179/alexwyattmommy/100_4541.jpg
It is nautical charts and stuff in shades of blue on a wheat color background. It is a medium weight. I was going to recover some cushions with it, but my sewing machine wouldn't cooperate.
I also have these lighter weight cotton prints.

Ann, if you won't use it, I'll take the heavier weight fabric. I can get 2 bags out of each yard, so I'll take as much as you want to send.
What does everyone think of that with DIT's Mickey fabrics as the liner? Or, I can go find something plain to line them with.
You guys are so great! :grouphug:

I just measured the Mickey pieces. Each piece is 20 inches wide and 43 inches long. They'll work great for the liners. If you wanted to use them for the outside, could you put that interface stuff on the backside to make them stiffer and stronger to use as the outside fabric? I don't sew and no next to nothing about it so I don't know if that would work.
I found some more. Here are 2 Pooh fabrics and some pretty flowers.
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s191/sadsadler/DSC00002002.jpg
Jennifer, just tell me which fabrics you want to use and I'll send them out to you. I've already set the Mickey ones aside for you.

All one direction patterns are hard for me to work with, because I'm really a basic sewer. I love love love Pooh Bear, but don't feel as though you have to send them to me Stephanie.
As for the interfacing, I don't know. I suppose I could "quilt" them with some batting and make them puffy, like Holl was talking about the other day...

Sounds like you're letting yourself in for extra work there:scared1: Kicky would love the dinosaur fabric! Pity he's not in the swap :rotfl: I'll have to see if I can find something similar as he needs new curtains.
DisneyIsTerrific
09-17-2009, 09:21 AM
The reason I mentioned the interfacing is because on the cross stitch board I'm part of, we stitched quilt squares for a sick child. I was collecting the stitched squares to give to a lady who was made a quilt out of them. She had me iron that interfacing onto the back of each square and it made it stiffer. Because of that I thought that might be an easy way to make this thinner fabric be useable as the outside fabric.
But, these fabrics will work great for the inside of the bags. So, if you can use any of these for the bags, I'm happy to send them to you. You will just have to use Pooh on a bag for me!!!!!!!:rotfl: Is that what you want from the fabrics I have - Mickey & Pooh?

If you won't be using them, and don't mind sending them to me, I'd take the Mickey and Pooh fabrics.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but I really have had that fabric for quite a few years (more than 6 years). I purchased it at Walmart. But, I just looked on Ebay, and if you put Mickey Mouse Fabric in the search box, I saw 1 piece (19x24) for sale. There may be more, but I only glanced at the first page. I hope that helps and good luck in putting your room together!!!

the ? has been asked about sizes.
there are 2 different sizes. there are small ones that you would get at the grocery store and are the size of a regular grocery bag.
then there are larger ones that are clearly bigger than the small. i really don't want to put measurements out there, in case someone's bags are not that exact size.
there is a clear difference between them. so use your own judgement as to if it's a small or a large.
now another ? is whether they are cloth or plastic? the ones i have are that reusable cloth kind. but at toys r us this weekend i saw the kind i have but w/plastic on the front and back and cloth on the sides. :confused3
so again they just have to be reusable. all cloth, cloth and plastic either way.
hope this is ok with everyone and i made some kind of sense. i've been up all night so if this if foggy ask me to clear it up!

I would suggest adding in an extra dollar in stamps (or cash) in case the bags someone else sends are a little heavier unless you are using flat rate in which case you just send the amount for the size box you would need.

Holly, I have a question. I was trying to package up my bags and realized that one set of the large bags I bought are too long to fit in a priority box (they are probably about 4-5 inches too long). The cardboard at the bottom of the bag is causing the problem. I'm thinking this is going to cause you a problem with mailing them back since they are so long. Would you like me to just not do that 2nd set of bags (I can take these back to the store)?
party of 3
09-27-2009, 07:52 AM
too long? huh? what to do about that?
i'd kinda like them to fit in a priority box so that i can send them out to everyone that way. is it cardboard or plastic? i have one from kmart that has a plastic piece on the bottom. no way to make it fit? i'd hate for you to have to return them.
DisneyIsTerrific
09-27-2009, 07:56 AM
Nope, I can't make it fit at all. I even pulled the piece of cardboard out thinking I could put it in diagonally or something, but the only way to make it work is to fold the cardboard. But, that will make the cardboard useless when you put it back in the bag because then it won't be very supportive.
So, drop me back down to 1 group and I'll take these back. Unless I find another bag somewhere, I'll just stick to the 1 group! :goodvibes

Glad they got there safely:thumbsup2 (I was beginnig to think they'd decided to walk part of the way:rotfl:) I was getting worried - we've had postal strikes and I always think the longer something is hanging around the more chance there is of "tampering".
Don't feel you have to use that huge box to return if you can fiund another way which works for you - whatever is easiest:thumbsup2

Oh, no, it's not a big deal, but where Pooh is a bear of little brain, I don't want him to be upside down for the rest of his life (I use one piece of fabric folded in half, so half would be upside down :) ), as that would give him a really big headache. It's not that it's more work, it's just that I need to figure out how to do it. I'm a very bare bones seamstress.

My bags are done! I even got Stephanie's Pooh lining done, it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.
Ann, I have a lot of fabric left, do you want me to send it back to you? I am happy to keep it, but if you want it back, I'll send it to you ;)
Stephanie, I only used one of the Pooh fabrics and none of the Mickey stuff, do you want it back? I know I can find something to do with them, but again, if you want it back, I'll send it to you.
I'll take pictures. I do have to say, I was unsure of Ann's fabrics with what I got for the lining (because taking it with me would have made far too much sense), but they really came out nice. However, the Pooh one is my favorite.
Please note that they are *hand*made, and very very far from perfect, but should be useful!
Holly, can I get these to you tonight or tomorrow or this weekend? I forgot we are going to the Harry Potter exhibit on Sunday, but Saturday is pretty much open. Just let me know if you want to meet at ACM, or Mike's or whatever!

I haven't made any yet, myself (hope to on Thursday, I have to work Tuesday this week), but here is the pattern I am using. Click me (http://www.houseonhillroad.com/coffeecozy.pdf). I'm going to get some empty (clean) Dunkin Donuts to go cups and put a gift card and maybe some candy or goodies in it with the cozy 'round it, and give them as Christmas gifts (with my awesome - yes, I can say that!) cut out of the to go cup from the card swap.

Thanks for doing this for us. I have to start putting the tree up tomorrow and then the presents go in the bags. I bought two parents each for my boys, well really three if you count the *****CRUISE****** I booked last week for the end of Jan. Now I have to figure out where were staying and book airfare when my check gets here. Anyone know of a great hotel to stay at in Fort Lauderdale for the night before the cruise? Thanks again MUM
Love the 3 potato ones from Morrison's, (my step daughter is so going to love it, she is into farm stuff and is a firefighter and first responder- she couldn't find any bags she liked last year so she took animal grain bags from work and made some. she is going to be thrilled) the purple star ones from publix and the breast cancer one from there also, The earths pride organics (love the mesh on the sides and great color keeping that one.) I also think the bibliomaniac one is cool looking-I am putting my brother-in-laws stuff in it as he is a minister and they use the bags already. I think my fave one is the one I have to give up to my 10yo son It came from the bulk barn and is shiny and covered in CANDY, then on the other side it is nuts, chocolate chips, smarties (like m&ms but no M's) dried; cranberries, bananas, mango's, peaches. who ever sent this so rocks thanks he will love getting his puzzle in it that tells him we are going to see his best friend in Florida. thanks again this was fun.

It wasn't for paper bag albums - I don't think we had one of those this year though we did one a couple of years ago. It was for reusable shopping bags - buy a selection and get different ones back IYSwIM

I don't know why my mail seems to take a day longer than everyone else's. It's so NOT fair! I can't wait to see what bags I got. And, I'll be looking for that Pooh one made by Jennifer!!!!!:thumbsup2

Just wanted to clarify .. the thread title says this is an OPEN swap .. but it doesn't look like it is .. but wanted to make sure ...
Also are these paper bag albums? If not, could you explain what they are?
Thanks!
OPEN and ACTIVE are used interchangeably. It means this swap is still going on. Once everyone has rec'd their items it will go to CLOSED or COMPLETE.
When it says SIGN UP - that means it is looking for swappers.
Hope that helps. :)
