Well, here I am somewhere I never thought I'd be...starting a planning journal for my upcoming wedding. If you asked me after my divorce if I would be getting married again my answer would have been a resounding NO!

Times change, life and outlooks change and I'm happy to be marrying my true soul mate and best friend. I have no idea of the direction this pj will take as we have already changed our minds 15 times this week. :rotfl:

Up next...about us. Hopefully I will be better about updating this than I am my trip reports. popcorn::

Larry & I have been together for almost seven years now, we met during both of our divorces. Yep, we were each other rebounds and somehow just stuck together. :lmao:

Larry has two awesome kiddos that I love dearly.

We also have fur-kids, which some of you might know from their blog...

We share a deep love of all that's Disney and have spent many great vacations together there goofing off and having a wonderful time. It only made sense that we get married at WDW and I just can't wait.

Now, if we could only decide what we want to actually DO for the wedding.

Wow, Pam at Disney ROCKS. She just sent me more photos of the locations we're trying to narrow down and it's helped tremendously.

First up is France...I love it. However, I'm wondering how teensy it will look set up with my # of people vs all those chairs in the pic.

Besides, that fountain always makes me have to go to the bathroom so I'm forever running to Morocco. ;)

http://thebratpack.zenfolio.com/img/v3/p257250782.jpg

The UK was my favorite going into this, but after seeing these I wonder again about my # vs all the people here. Will it seem empty? I only have enough for one side. ;)

I think it's gorgeous but not really feeling it for what we want. Darn it.

I'm REALLY liking Germany, bordering on love. I need to search and see other ceremonies there.

I'm not getting that warm fuzzy feeling for a ceremony...but I think I'd love it for reception or DP.

I loved the Morocco shots...it's vying with Germany for my fave.

Welcome! Isn't Pam the BEST! She's been my consultant and I met with her a few weeks ago for a site visit and she just put me at ease.

DFi and I didn't really get the warm and fuzzy's when we went to look at Italy Isola a few weeks ago.

Morroco is so pretty and I love the colors. If you haven't yet, check out Lurkyloo's Planning Journal/Trip Report she had her ceremony in Morroco and the pictures are from her setup.

Don't worry about filling a place. I've never seen a location where it looked empty. There are lots of ways to photograph around it, and they can sometimes change the chair set up to better suit your guest size.

Congrats on your engagement, and YAY for starting a PJ!!! I love reading Epcots ones, since I wish I could have had my ceremony there!

My vote is for Germany, although I think I may stand alone! We were debating a wishes wedding, just because we wanted to have an Epcot ceremony, but in the end, it didn't make sense with our small guest #'s. I really love Germany, but I have never seen a ceremony there and the background could be really busy.

Good luck with whatever you decide :goodvibes

I've been out running around all day looking for house stuff but thought I'd post what I've gotten done the last couple days.

No decision yet on ceremony or reception....or DP for that matter. Larry is out of town for the weekend to a football game. I've been browsing the web looking at invitations, I want them to be something unique and Disney so collecting some ideas from all over.

I DID have a nice long chat with Randy Chapman (http://www.chapmanphotography.com/)the other night...SUPER nice guy and funny as well. I'm bummed that he can't take the photos if we have the ceremony inside of Epcot, I really like his work. He'll at least be able to do the reception though. I went ahead and booked him for December for an engagement photo shoot at the Boardwalk. I'm excited, I hope they turn out well with all the holiday decorations.

I also booked Beaute Speciale (http://www.beautespeciale.com/) to do my hair & makeup that morning although I'm wavering a little bit. I've read such good things about LeJeune (http://www.lejeune-pca.com/) as well but wasn't enthused about paying a $50 travel charge.

Other than that not much going on wedding planning related here...except that I think I want a shorter wedding dress, maybe tea length. I'm short and big dresses seem to overwhelm me plus it's just not "me" if that makes sense. I like the look of these:

I booked Beaute Speciale as well. I had always really liked the work of Patricia LeJeune and figured if I did have a Disney wedding that's who I'd book. We did our engagement shoot in June and I didn't want to pay that much to have my make-up done for it so I booked Ana, it was only $50 for make-up and no travel fee. At the time, we weren't sure if we were having a Disney wedding, so it didn't make sense to pay $100 for my make-up since it wouldn't even be a trial. I loved the way my make-up turned out and really got along with Ana. She shared some funny stories and really knew her stuff. I know Patricia is known for a more "natural" look, but I asked Ana for a natural look and she did an awesome job, I still looked like me, but fabulous! If you aren't sure, try her out for your e-pics and if you don't like it you can always book Patricia for the wedding.

I have Pam as my consultant too, she is so awesome. And she never ever makes me feel like any of my questions are dumb...which some of them really are! She really makes it seem like her pleasure to answer any and every question I have, she is awesome!

:::warning, long rambling post ahead:::

OK, I've spent the last couple days feeling stressed about the minimum for Wishes weddings plus the 21% gratuity plus the 6.5% tax. So I've been trying to build an Escape wedding with add-ons that would still be what we want while keeping the budget a bit smaller than Wishes.
(I hope)

The biggest thing is giving up the opportunity to be married in Epcot, but I just have to think that for our situation it might not be the best route. So now I'm beating my head against the wall in the Wedding Pavilion vs Sea Breeze Point debate....I like the idea of the Commanders Terrance at the GF w/ the WP, but is it worth an extra $1k to have it at the WP?!:confused3

Then either direction we go after that do we do a lunch reception somewhere like Narcoossees or the Attic or do the cake/champagne then do a buffet/dessert party at Epcot that night? Is it weird to have a lapse in the festivities between a morning ceremony and an evening buffet/dessert party? So that would leave several hours until we'd be at Epcot, what would everyone do?

Having an afternoon wedding at SBP in August worries me with the afternoon showers/heat so thinking I would try to do earlier in day. Having it at the WP would solve that problem but again there's the 1k difference. Would I rather spend it on something else?!

The other thing that stresses me about the Escape packages is the guest limit...we would pay the extra $500 to have 23 guests but when I made our list we're RIGHT at the 23. I have a horrible time turning someone down if they say they want to come and in that case we'd no longer qualify.

I'm overanalyzing this, I know. I can't seem to help myself though. (Where's the "beating head against the wall" smiley when you need it?!)

lol, I apologize to Pam every time I send her an email too!

Okay, so on the SBP vs. Wedding Pavilion Debate. I always thought I was a SBP girl, loved all the pics of it, loved the TR's I read where the wedding was there. The WP I wasn't really that into, just wasn't my thing. I wasn't really impressed with the pics I saw of it. But with SBP, what if it rained? I didn't want my ceremony in a ballroom.

When we were there in June we decided to look at some of the locations. We walked past SBP. It was pretty but very open at the same time and DF didn't really like it as a ceremony location. Then we went to the WP. OMG, it is seriously so beautiful I actually started tearing up and knew I had to get married there.

I think it is worth the extra $1k for a few reasons: 1) A/C. It will crazy hot in August, and you'll really be thankful for the A/C. 2) it includes an organist, which you would have to supply your own music at SBP. 3) It's indoors, so you don't have to worry about the weather. 4) Don't need to spend any money on decor if you don't want to. 5) the view at the WP of Cinderella Castle vs. view of S/D at SBP. 6) more private

I think in planning any wedding there are going to be those days when you want to hit your head against a wall. We had a huge problem working out the timeline and it took a few days to figure it out. Speaking of which, I know people have had breaks between the ceremony and a DP and as long as there is enough time for people to go to their rooms and change or take a nap or whatever, most of their guests actually enjoyed it.

Thanks for the kind words...I appreciate it. I agree with your points on the WP for sure.

Personally I like the idea of the mid-day break too, it would give everyone time to enjoy themselves and rest, I agree. With it being August (ugh) the heat will really wear some of the guests out that aren't used to it at all.

OK, change of plans.

After deliberating over the weekend plus a couple days, working budget numbers, etc we decided that if we paid the $ to have the ceremony through WDW we wouldn't have the money to do the "extra" stuff we wanted.

Soo I started researching more on here and looked into the Swan & Dolphin for the ceremony. I talked to "Just Marry" that the S/D referred me to and am still waiting for a call back. In the meantime I found another wedding planner that works with the S/D and just love her.

http://www.michelebutlerevents.com/ in case anyone is interested.

Anyway...she priced out the ceremony w/ officiant and minimal flowers and I'm really happy with the budget. We'll be having it at the Crescent Terrace at the Swan as long as the availability is there.

http://www.tazfoto.com/webhtml/swan_crescent.htm

So then I call back DFTW to tell them that we changed our mind about having the wedding through them and was told then my dessert party and lunch reception would have to meet the $12,000 Wishes minimum since it's a wedding celebration. :scared1: Well, the exact quote...

"If the event is a "wedding reception" and you are going be celebrating a union it is considered a reception only and follows the same minimums."

I asked if we couldn't have the catered events like anyone else off the street can if they meet the venue minimum (ex: $1,500 food & beverage at Narcoossees) and they won't let me since it's a known wedding reception.

I tried calling WDW Catered Events to get help if it's a "family gathering" and not a "wedding" but I'm already in the system as a wedding so they won't help me. So I've put a call into Michele to see what ideas she has. To say I'm a bit frustrated is putting it mildly.

That's crazy that they want you to still pay the min! Especially considering Escape brides can hold receptions/dp's without minimums! I think there are some brides on here who had a church wedding, than a WDW reception, I wonder if they were told the same thing?

We contemplated this at one point...I would suggest contacting the restaurants at the swan and dolphin. I know a few of them have large spaces for a "reception". The only thing you might not be able to get would be a dessert party.

ITA. I was on the Disney Catered Events site and saw you could book dessert parties directly through them so I'm going to try that. I mean, if anyone else can why shouldn't I be able to just because I happen to be getting married that day? This really irks me.

One thing to consider. If you can get catering to book it for you. You will not be able to wear your wedding dress to any of these events. The Swanfin has several restaurants that I think would be able to help and several aren't open for lunch.

that seems totally bizarre, that they would rather lose your business completely than just let you have a regular party...:confused3 Unless there are THAT many people clamoring for that space on that evening...umm yeah unlikely.

i love the look of the Swolphin* terrace though! i like the tall trees. very private.

I'm off work today and even driving MYSELF crazy with planning stuff. :rotfl2:

Michele wrote back..Crescent Terrace is available for both dates I picked and she also mentioned the beach was too. I liked the idea of the beach but then thought of the sand issue and not sure I want to deal with that.

Sooooooo......it's looking like Crescent Terrace on Sunday, August 1st. At least that is what it looks like today....tune in tomorrow for another possible change of plans.:lmao:

Assuming that's a done deal the hope was to do it at 9:30 or 10 am since it's AUGUST and will be boiling hot. If the wedding Gods are smiling down on me then WDW is going to call me and tell me, "why, yes we would LOVE to have your luncheon at Narcoossees or the Napa Room!" instead of what the grumpy lady at group sales told me earlier today. ;)

If they don't actually call with that exclamation *cough cough* I'm working on scenarios at Fultons (if someone will get back to me) and Blue Zoo.

Cake is pending above plans...and I wonder if I'm the only one who craves wedding cake during this entire procedure?!

If worse comes to worse I'll book a dessert party in one of the other names and be done with it. I don't care what I have to do, mark my words we'll be having a dessert party. :rotfl:

The other issue hanging out there is some kind of "welcome" gathering the night prior. Any ideas? I looked at some of the options on the Disney Catering site but am awaiting prices which I'm sure will make me fall over.

I ordered sample "save the dates" and invitations off of Etsy, I'm hoping we love them once they arrive otherwise will be back on the hunt for those.

I've had like 7 cups of coffee today so I'm all over the place, sorry. :surfweb:

Wooohooooo, progress!

Talked to WDW today - AWESOME rep is helping me and it's taken a huge weight off. She's emailing me links to all the group event info including the Sunset Safari and Dessert parties.

Since we're doing the Swan we can't have the wedding reception through WDW so we're going to do that elsewhere...possibly Blue Zoo or Fulton's, still working on that. I'm ok with that, more so now that I know I can do the two other events with Disney direct.

So now the tentative schedule...

Saturday, July 31st - Welcome Event somewhere on WDW property

Sunday, August 1st am - Ceremony at Swan
Reception/Cake at either Blue Zoo or Fulton's or ?
Dessert Party or Other Event on WDW property

I'm so relieved to have a good contact.

In addition she's setting up our room blocks at Animal Kingdom Lodge, Port Orleans Riverside and Pop Century.

Oh and the invitation samples came in from Etsy - LOVE THEM! I'll scan and post.

Well, Fulton's sent me all of their information and I really think that's the way we're going to go for the reception. Here's the photo they sent of the area we would be in, plus we would have the outside deck as well which I really like.

We can get quite a bit more for the $ food wise as well so I think that would work out well.

I can have a cake delivered an hour prior so I'm trying to decide what we'll do for that. I had my heart set on a mad hatter cake from Disney w/ a Mickey icon theme. Since I don't know if I can still do this through WDW I'm trying to explore other routes. Any local bakery referrals would be most appreciated.

Next I need to decide on colors and work on the wording for the Save the Dates. I'm almost 100% sure I'm going to use the lady from Etsy I ordered the invitation samples from.

Shiho from Disney sent me all of our options for the welcome party and dessert party so we need to decide on that as well. I think we're going to do the Epcot DP the night of the wedding but not sure what the welcome gathering is going to be yet.

So many decisions!

that room is really nice, it looks like it will be a great location! I don't know of any bakeries to recommend but you could check out the knot boards and see who most of those girls are using. I don't post on there because they are generally not so nice to Disney brides, but it is helpful when looking for local resources.

Well, Fulton's sent me all of their information and I really think that's the way we're going to go for the reception. Here's the photo they sent of the area we would be in, plus we would have the outside deck as well which I really like.

I just got some information from Fulton's too and I am most likely going to be going with them too! That makes me feel good to know that someone else likes what they have to offer also. I think we will be going with the Bow, which was the other room they have. I haven't looked into any bakeries yet but if I do I will let you know what I find.

Just out of curious, when are you shooting for to have your wedding?

What number or email address did you use to contact Disney about the dessert and welcome parties?

Haha, I feel like I am copying your wedding, sorry, but I really like it!

I think we'll end up liking Fulton's, don't you? I haven't seen the pics of the Bow yet, but I like the lounge in that it looks "finished" and doesn't need a bunch of decorating. Geez, I sound so cheap. ;)

I think it's fun to share ideas, it's helped me tons so far to read others plans and ideas. We're looking at Saturday, July 31st, 2010. Once the Swan is confirmed today it will be concrete w/ the three main players for ceremony, reception and photography.

We're going to have some kind of welcome gathering Friday night and then an Epcot DP the night of the wedding.

I'll find the WDW info and PM you!

OK, I just faxed back the room block contract to WDW and have butterflies in my stomach. Here's what we ended up doing for the block:

5 rooms for 4 nights at each resort:

Animal Kingdom Lodge - $212
Port Orleans Riverside - $147
Pop Century - $110

WDW also sent the info for our welcome gathering...it's looking like the Grand Floridian Marina as the other locations are already booked for the date we wanted. Any input on this location for a Wishes party would be greatly appreciated.

Now we're trying to decide what we want to do for food...since we're doing the Illuminations DP the next night we don't want it to be just desserts. Hopefully I'll get some menus w/ pricing today from them.

My contract for the Swan should be coming from Michele today as well so we'll be confirmed at the Crescent Terrace for 10 am.

I need to still complete the Fulton's contract with the $300 room deposit and Randy Chapman's contract as soon as everything else is confirmed.

So excited!

So happy that you are speaking with a good rep now and will be getting your DP after all :) and I totally didn't think that Disney would allow room blocks for a wedding that wasn't through DFTW, that makes me sooo relieved to hear! yay!

I definitely like Fulton's so far, but we may actually still end up at the Swan and Dolphin for the reception (at Il Mulino). I am torn between the two, so I think I am going to make my mom do the final decision making, hehe :). I think I will be happy at either.

The bow looks the same as the lounge for the most part, just a little bigger because it can accommodate more people. And I said the same thing about the decorating, it's not being cheap, it's just knowing a good value when you see one!

It sounds like everything is really coming together for you! Excellent! Congrats again!

I don't think they do...but we booked it as a reunion. All my wedding stuff is not through DFTW since it's at the Swan & Fulton's. I just won't be wearing wedding clothes at either of the WDW functions which is no biggie to me.

I had to guarantee a minimum of 10 rooms for one of the nights. Credit card hold and there's a decent cancellation policy a couple months prior to the event. She put a hold on the Grand Floridian Marina for the evening we need, once the contract is processed she said someone would be in touch to complete the paperwork. I have no idea what the deposit situation is for that though.

Glad to hear it's all coming together! Why are you concerned about the Marina? I think the view may even be a little better, it definitely has a more centered view of the Castle, the area is also a lot more open and wider, whereas Sago is more long and narrow. I'm not sure how many people you have but there are some tables already there, so you may not even have to pay extra to have any set up.

I had just read a couple of not glowing reviews of DP's there, but the more I think about it the more comfortable I am. I mean, it's not like the GF is going to put on a bad party, right? :) I think those reviews were probably nit-picking a lot more than I would.

pezaddict231
09-23-2009, 04:51 PM
really? Do you mind sharing which reviews? I'd like to read them since we're using the Marina too. We have too many people for Sago.

Honestly, with any type of review, you'll find some really picky people out there, I read some hotel reviews and I'm like, seriously? So if you're relatively easy to please, like me, I'm sure you'll be fine. Every restaurant I have ever eaten at at the Grand Floridian has been really good, so I don't see why the food for their private parties would be any different. The food would also be coming from the same kitchen for Sago or the Marina.

I know it's not going to be the same as an Epcot Dessert party, for Epcot, you're right there. For Wishes you're outside of the park so it's not the same. If you have ever seen Wishes from outside of the park, you know what I mean. The fireworks aren't perfectly centered on the castle, they are kinda off to the side. I think your guests will still really enjoy it because most likely they are there to see you and for the desserts and the fireworks are a cool extra!

The only other downside I can see to the Marina is that it's more out in the open, so you're more likely to have regular guests standing around, but some people may like the extra attention, so it just depends.

Just checking in...not a ton going on right now.

-Etsy seller is working on the proofs for the Save the Dates. I'm still waiting on the group code info from WDW so she can finish.

-Called today and made the group discount arrangements with both American Airlines and Airtran since almost everyone will be flying in. Need to email that for the STDs too.

-Contracts & deposits are off to Michele Butler for the Swan and Fulton's for the reception.

-Still waiting to hear from my assigned event coordinator at WDW to complete the event contracts/deposits.

-Heard back from a couple of the bakeries, need to scour the cake threads for ideas so I can get quotes. Ditto w/ flowers.

-Decided on red for the main color with some black/yellow in there...Mickey. I figured why not go all the way. :cool1:

-Giving some thoughts to favors...I'm going to look when I'm at WDW next week and see if I can come up with something. Thinking about welcome bags for everyone w/ goodies but haven't gotten much further than that.

I just read through your PJ. I'm glad everything is coming together for you! I got married on August 1 also (this year though!) If you are still looking for a cake, we got ours from Publix. Everyone has been raving about Publix cakes so I'm on their site now looking around. I wonder if I can get something w/ a Mickey theme or not going through them.

I'm still waiting on WDW for the group reservations number and for the assigned event person to contact me regarding finalizing both the party plans. I know she said she held the Marina for me but it makes me nervous the more time passes. On top of that I want to find out what Epcot locations are available that night and get it settled. It drives me nuts having things just "hanging out there"!!

On a side note...I took some time to browse the Knot boards....WTH is the hostility/meanness towards Disney brides over there?!?! Wow.

The flowers are really pretty, I like the mix of roses and callas the best. I saw a pic of Stacey's cake in her PJ and it looked great! Couldn't hurt to ask about the Mickey, maybe if it was an abstract Mickey, more like a hidden Mickey it shouldn't be a problem. Just tell them you want a very specific three circle design :lmao:.

I know the worst part about Disney is waiting for them to confirm things, but I'm sure it will all work out.

I can't believe it either! I honestly don't know what is wrong with those girls. I can understand how you may not agree with someone's choices, but to be so mean about it? If you don't like it just move along, it's their day, you have yours. My guess is they really have nothing better to do with their time and it makes them feel better to bring other people down. I really pity the men they've tricked into marrying them. I won't even post over there, much better to save that for the disboards where people are nice. ;)

Wooohooo, I'm so excited I finally heard from my assigned event planner. She rocks, totally helpful and really patient. (which she needs with me) :lmao:

We've confirmed the Marina, she said she really likes the venue and that it turns out so nice which calmed my nerves about it. She said she did a party recently w/o the Wishes music piped in and it was fine, but I think I'm going to do it anyway.

If Wishes is at 10, we'll do 8-9 reception food, 9-10 desserts and then watch Wishes.

For the Epcot Dessert Party the following are available:
UK Upper & Lower
Smaller areas in Italy & France

She did mention they like to hold the Lower UK for bigger parties so I feel kind of bad requesting that since we're under 30.

Any input on choosing an Epcot location would be great!

That's so exciting!

Glad she reassured you about the Marina (since I'm using it too :)) I do like it better than Sago just because it's wider and more open and that area of the Grand Floridian is so pretty!

When we were considering an Epcot party I was thinking about the locations in Italy and France, so I think either would be great! Will you be able to visit the Epcot locations? That might help you decide.

I agree! Though I haven't been to either Sago Cay or the Marina, from the pics I have seen, the Marina looks nicer if you are going to use it more formally (like to actually sit down and eat).

Fulton's looks beautiful! I've been there, but only for a reg. dinner in the reg. dinner area, so I never knew it could look like this! and think w/all your guests dressed up! So nice! :)

Haha, you're not alone w/"sounding cheap" either. DF&I are having our reception at Ariel's, and pretty much everyone who's seen the pictures love it because it already has a theme, yet is not overwhelming so we can still add little touches. :)

Few things since last time I posted...

1. Confirmed the 3rd exterior deck at Fulton's for the ceremony today, now just have to work on the menu for lunch.

2. After much deliberation have decided to use my sister for the cake. She actually has a bakery here in the Dallas area but will be able to do this there somehow. I'm not asking, not sure I want to know details but she's guaranteeing me I'll like it. ;) I sent her the pics of the ones I like so we shall see. :::deep breath, deep breath:::

3. Save the Date's have been ordered and are on the way soon. Woohooo!
Still need to order seals, I think I'll order personalized Mickey icon ones.

4. Waiting to hear back from Disney on Epcot options that are still open, hopefully that will be today. I'd like to have dinner and dessert, she suggested doing dinner indoor somewhere at Epcot then doing the dessert party. Need more details on what's available though.

5. I had a dream that we were at the wedding and only like 3 people showed up. I hope it's not a sign of things to come.:sad1:
