Welcome Minnie 116, jendon1997 and dvcnewgirl!

We will be staying at the Residence Inn in Cocoa Beach the night before the cruise and the Beach Club after the cruise before flying home.

I'm hoping the new slides will be open at Castaway Cay for our cruise. Looks like a lot of nice new enhancements coming to CC in the next year!

Did anyone book Alaska? We were very excited to hear the itinerary announced but when we got a quote for me, DH, ds8 and ds12, it was $8400 for a midship category 6 without insurance or transfers. We passed on that for now (that was as expensive as our Med and Baltic cruises!) and will hold out to get quotes for the Disney Dream in October when they come out.

Hi Kristen,
We will meet you by the pool! I love cruising with the kids. Its my favorite type of vacation with them. Did you choose early or late dinner?

Jen, It looks like are kids are about the same age as well. My DD will have just turned 10 3 weeks prior to our cruise. My DS will be 6 1/2 so he will be in the same age group as your other DD. This is our 4th Disney Cruise. It is the kids 3rd. This time we opted for the Main dinner seating. We usually have the late (due to availability) and my kids usually fall asleep at the dinner table. So, we are excited to try the main seating.

DD10 cant wait to cruise. She has been on a few cruises and loves the kids club. I'm not sure if DD5 will stay in club. She probably would if sister and her would be together. Doesnt bother me if she stays or not. I just dont want her to miss out on fun stuff.

Hope my kids behave well. BIL and SIL have no kids. I can see them starting to avoid us after a few days!! Dont blame them!!

Welcome!

This will be me and Keegan's 11th Disney cruise and my friend Beth/Jake's 2nd DCL cruise. My biggest advice is to just take it all in and enjoy it. There's so much to do, there's no way you can do it all in one cruise. Our first DCL cruise was a 4 day and by the time we really figured out what to do and where to go, it was over. We definitely prefer the longer cruises, but any cruise is a good cruise and we'll take whatever DCL cruise we can.

I guess the best advice I can give besides taking it in is to look at old navigators to get an idea of what activities a 3 day Disney cruise has and pick out some you'd definitely like to do. Granted, all cruise activities are subject to change, but they keep a lot of the same ones. I would definitely suggest going to the shows and to each of the restaurants and not missing the sail away or pirate parties.

I'm an over packer, but I do try to cut down each cruise what we bring. I read somewhere to take out half of what clothes you think you need and bring twice the money and that's pretty dead on for DCL. For young kids I like to put their entire outfit rolled up including socks and underwear in large ziplocks and squoosh out the air. You can really get a lot of clothes in bags that way and when they get dressed, you know they'll match and can do it easily themselves. The bags come in handy for wet swim suits too. Don't forget to have your kids wear swim suits on embarkation day if they plan on swimming before your luggage arrives at your stateroom.

I'd also bring along a credit card and some future vacation dates for rebooking. We rebooked about 2 months after we got off our first cruise and missed the 10% discount and on board credit we would have had. Now we even like to book dummy/ghost dates and then transfer them to another date so we retain the credit and OBC.

If you have any specific questions, let me know.

kindra657
10-03-2009, 08:55 PM
I'm not sure if I can think of any specific questions yet. We probably wouldn't have booked a Disney Cruise anytime soon because we usually do Disney pretty well on a budget (using our dvc membership) and the cruises are expensive. We got the 3 day cruise for free for adding on 100 points to our dvc membership. We invited my in-laws to come because the cruise includes 4 people. We paid for the extra person and the room upgrade.

Anyways, I don't even really know where to begin asking questions. The goals for our cruise: meet other fun disney lovers, have a fantastic time with the family, eat great food, see some terrific shows, party down during the parties, get some sun at Castaway Cay, and see my dd and rest of family have the time of their lives! I really hope dd makes friends on the dcl! I think it would be really neat for her to meet other people from around the country and maybe even get a pinpal :goodvibes

Amen to that!!

Do you know anything about the fish extenders? I don't even own a sewing machine but would LOVE to have one and participate. Do you know what options I have?

Buttons are the extent to my sewing capabilities!

I bought an FE on Ebay a few years back and it's held up well. The person I bought it from is still making them and will customize the material, characters and number of pockets with in reason. If you do a search on Ebay for fish extenders, some should come up. I've seen people use little totes, stockings during Chirstmas time cruiseskl--- you name it for FE's. I've also seen some people get clear shoe sorters and just decorate with stickers. Anything that can hold items will work. We've always had a lot of fun with participating in Fish Extender exchanges.

I checked on ebay and the lady I have used for 3 FE's (one regular one for us, one Christmas themed one for us and one for a friend I bought) is still doing them. Her name is Gradysmommy. I've seen lots more FE's onboard that she's done and they've all really turned out nice.

Hanover, thank you for all the information! I looked at many FEs and wanted to try to make my own. I bought a beginner's sewing machine yesterday ($24 on sale), the materials ($13), and worked at it all day long and did it!! I am still amazed that I made something! :lmao:

I'm getting so excited about the trip!! I don't think we are going to make Palo reservations though for 3 reasons: 1) we've never been on a cruise and our time is limited on only a 3 night cruise 2) I don't want to miss any of the 3 restaurants (especially Animator's Palate) 3) I reall don't want to dress up or have to pack extra attire for dressing up on vacation. we did that one year for Victoria & Albert's. It was nice, but I like to be totally casual on vacation. Do you think I'm really missing out by not booking Palo on our very 1st cruise?

We are also probably not going to spend much time on Nassau because 1) I will be nervous about my daughter being out in a different country 2) we could enjoy more on the ship considering we don't have an "at sea" day 3) I would like the beach, but we'll have our beach time on Castaway Cay, 4) we don't really have a lot of extra money for excursions. Do you think we should tour Nassau? If we did, Atlantis looks really cool and the resort has a sale going on (which includes the waterpark passes vs. paying BIG $ thru DCL).

Any ideas or information to help me be more comfortable with my current decisions or reasons why my decisions aren't the best would be great! We will be traveling with our in-laws and after spending 5 busy days in the parks, I think we will want to relax a lot during the day and have fun at night at the family night club or dance clubs.

Are there any things that cannot be missed? What 3 things would you suggest to a 1st time cruiser and Disney lover?

You are welcome! Congrats on doing your FE!

About Palo and it being your first cruise--I'd skip it too. You will have so much going on the 3 days and the regular restaurants are all good and worth the experience of trying out. The only reason we are doing Palo is because I'll be a platinum Castaway Cay member after our December cruise and it's a free perk. It was very hard to choose a day to go to Palo in January with Pirate night being the 2nd night and I don't like to miss that and didn't want to miss meeting our wait staff the 1st night. I really didn't want to miss the last night too but it was the best choice. Ordinarily, we don't do Palo dinner unless we are on a 7 day. Brunch is definitely worth it on a 4 day but it's not offered on a 3 day.

My opinion on Nassau--- I think it's "okay". We've done the dolphin excursion through DCL in 2005 and have also gone to the pirate museum and Atlantis on our own. I think if we did Atlantis again we'd go on the water taxi. We took a regular taxi in 2006 and the driver waited about 10 minutes until the entire van filled up. There was no air conditioning and it was super hot, it smelled like yucky sweat and he drove like a maniac. We had no seat belts and I was scared!! To us there wasn't much close to the ship unless you are looking for fake purses, color changing items from the sun at Del Sol or cheap t-shirts. The last 2 times we went, DS8 wanted to stay at the club and I went to the spa for a great deal they do in port for $125---an hour long massage/facial and then an hour in the rainforest room. To me it's much better than anything else there!! While I go to the spa and DS8's in the club, DH has taken DS12 out just to walk around the port and check things out in the straw market for an hour or two. The trip in Jan my DH and DS8 will not be there so my friend and I plan on doing the spa (we can't wait!) and then walking the boys around the local area just so they can check things out. I do not want to go further than that without my DH. I just read about some tourists getting robbed from another cruise line when they went further out on their own. I know it's highly unlikely but I don't want to take the chance. We'll probably spend the afternoon at the pools onboard.

You will not be busy like in the parks, but you will be constantly going somewhere on the ship to do something. There are so many fun activities. I will have been on 10 DCL cruises by then and I've still not done lots of activities I'd like to try. Just a reason to book another one! The cruises are more relaxing in my opinion that the parks but we're still exhausted each night. Check out some recent navigators on castwayclub.com and you will see just how busy you can be bouncing from activity to activity!

The 3 things that I would not miss are the sail away party, the pirate party and the shows. I would also not miss trying any of the restaurants.

I just booked this cruise two weeks ago. It is going to be a total surprise to my children (unless I spill the secret before then!). One of their Christmas gifts is going to be a five day trip to Florida. We are not planning on telling them about the cruise until Thursday Morning.

We have been on 2 seven day DCL cruises (usually we bring 20 of our closest friends and family), so this will be our first 3 day cruise. It will be nice to get away from the cold northeast weather for 5 days.

Our crew includes me, Tammy (39), DH (Paul 44), DD (Ashley 15) and DS (Jack 14).

We are from Grand Island, NY which is literally an island half-way between Buffalo and Niagara Falls.

Count us in for FE!

All of friends are betting against me keeping the cruise a secret. They know how much I love DCL, and how much of a planner I am so, they think I won't be able to keep the secret until January. But we will see. It helps to be on the DIS because when I feel the need to talk about the cruise, I just go online!

My children think the next DCL cruise we are going on is in November 2011, so anytime they catch me on DIS, they think I am doing research for that cruise.

YAY!! looks like there are 3 of us for the FE! This is our 1st cruise ever and we are very excited. I am a Disney World nut and go there often. DVC offered a free 3 night cruise with adding on points, which we were doing anyway, so the cruise was a bonus! :woohoo: I haven't been on the boat yet, but with all the discussions surrounding the dcl and the info I've gotten, I think I am a new dcl cruiser :rolleyes1...Disney always finds ways to suck more money out of me and I love it!! :rotfl:

It'll be wonderful to escape the freezing weather in January! I just hope it'll be warm enough to swim a little on the boat and on Castaway Cay! What are your plans so far? Did you make resies for Palo? Will you? Excursions? the Spa?
What's your kids' favorite things on the boat? what characters do they like? do they like sports or anything like that?

You can do it! We booked a cruise for May 2006 about 14 months before and managed to keep it a complete secret from our boys right up until we unloaded our luggage. It was our then ds9 (he's 12 now) birthday and I told him we had one more gift for him and it was the wrapped DCL documents. They thought we were spending the day at Cocoa Beach and waving goodbye to the Magic. It was so worth the secret when we saw their faces and excitement. He looked shocked and said "does my teacher know? Does my baseball coach know? Does EVERYONE know but us? We told very few people because we didn't want somone "leaking" but we did tell his teacher and coach! For a couple days, Keegan was shining and kept saying " I just can't believe I'm on the Magic." My parents and FIL also joined the cruise and we had a blast.

You are lucky you got the cruise perk! We added on 105 points last December at BLT and just got the per point maybe $6 off discount. We cruised in February and they were offering the cruise perk then plus the $6 discount but we didn't add any. When we cruised in August we added another 100 points at AKV. We were going to do 105 since it was the last day for the free cruise but the guide we used there said we wouldn't get the deeper discount if we took the cruise. We ended up getting $23 off per point at AKV which was less than we paid for our original contract when we joined in at AKV in 2007.

We are staying at BLT for the 1st time next in 10 days. We walked through there in August and can't wait to try it out. We've stayed at Kidani twice and will stay there again next week for 2 nights. We really love it there too.

What a wonderful surprise!!! There is NO way I could keep that from my dd for 14 whole months!!!! The only time I ever surprised her was in april 2006. We planned the trip only 8 weeks out for her 5th bday. We told her that we were going to TX to visit her papaw. She remembered her 1st trip in 2005 and I sort of planted a seed about a month before we left and said, "I really wish we could go to Disney World again but it's just too expensve."

On the morning of her bday, our flight left at 7am. We woke her up with one of those cheap gas station cupcakes with 5 candles and sang to her. She made a wish and you'll never believe what she wished for!!! ;) Dh and I couldn't believe it and we could barely contain ourselves! The plane landed and lil birthday girl/sleepy head finally woke up. We knew we had to tell her before we got off the plane. Dh got the camera ready and I said to her "hey baby you're awake! The plane has landed and I have something to tell you. We aren't in Texas.......and I leaned down to her ear (I was sort of behind her facing dh) and I whispered "we are in Disney World!!" :wizard: (your wish is my command) ...The look on her face, which I couldn't see from behind her, was amazing!!! (we got a great pic of it!). The surprise was amazing and there were many to come throughout the week.

Since then, dd has become my park hopping bud! Her and I can go all day while dh poops out early! :lmao: She is who I get excited with, countdown with, and do my "single digit happy dance with!!!" It would be very difficult for me not to tell her.

At the beginning of this month, I found out that dd has a long weekend for Halloween (no school on monday 2nd and tuesday the 3rd). I knew that flights out of Detroit to MCO were CHEAP CHEAP so I decided to take a look at them...$127 round trip!!! We have APs and we use our DVC points for the room. All we had to do was pay for the flights and food and we could go to Disney for Halloween! Called dh, he said if there were studios available, to go for it. I called and there was 1 studio left at SSR. I booked it and booked the flights! I thought about keeping it a secret but I couldn't. Then we decided to invite her best friend (who's mom and I are also best friends). Millie (my bff) was hesistant because it's so far away, but she knows how much fun we have and it was an opportunity for C-Bug (Sierra) to go to wdw for very cheap! Millie agreed to let bug go with us!! !:thumbsup2 Telling her was a blast!

DD and I were over there visiting and dd said to bug "go downstairs and ask your mom if you can go to wdw with us." bug said "no ramiah, she will never let me go with you!" I guess Ramiah kept pleading with her to ask, and eventually bug got irritated with her and started yelling "NO RAMIAH!! SHE WON'T LET ME GO! I DON'T EVEN WANT TO ASK!!!" Millie and I knew exactly how this conversation was going to go before dd even went up there and started with her so this was our cue...we called them down and asked them why they were fighting. bug said "miah won't stop telling me to ask you to go to disney and I keep telling her that you and dad would never let me go!" Millie smiled at her and said "I think going to disney world with miah is a wonderful idea." Well, it took a few minutes and her seeing a copy of her reserved plane ticket with HER name on it before she actually believe us. We thought she was going to faint!! That surprise was great :goodvibes

Ok, this post is long enough...I get on a topic and can go on and on...:rotfl:

Thank you all for your good wishes! I am going to try very hard to keep the secret. My DD is begging to go somewhere this winter, she keeps saying all she wants to do is get away and work on her tan. So, when she believes her Christmas gift is going to a beach in Florida, she will be quite excited.

Our plans so far are to fly in Wednesday night, pick up the rental car at MCO, drive to Cocoa Beach. The good thing about arriving Wednesday Night is it is dark so they won't know where we are driving to until Thursday Morning. We got a room at the Holiday Inn Cocoa Beach through priceline.

I am still debating when to tell them. I saw a great video on youtube where the parents convinced the kids they were going to have lunch on the Wonder, but they were really going on a cruise.

I was thinking of a scenario where I beg my DH to drive by the Wonder, so I can get my Disney fix, and then say, come on, let's just go on this cruise, please. Then, my DH would go oh what the heck, let's see if they have availability. I think the kids faces would be priceless!:scared1:

Or I could give them an envelope at breakfast which states our plans for the next few days (As I am an uber-planner, this won't seem strange to them! LOL). I just haven't decided which way to go, luckily I have three months to decide!

I really enjoy the restaurants so we won't make Palo reservations on this trip, but I highly recommend if you have not been there to enjoy it, it is really good food. I really enjoyed the rainforest pass on our last cruise so, I might do that again.

In Nassau, we will probably explore a bit on our own, I found information on the pirate museum and would be interested in visiting there as well as the historical sites.

My children enjoyed the clubs on the last time, so I am sure they will check out the teen's area. We all enjoy the shows, and we haven't seen Toy Story yet, so I know we will watch that show.

Of course, the DD, even though she will be one month away from her 16th birthday when we cruise, is still into the princesses, Belle and Cinderella being her absolute favorites!

The DS will try to find others to hang out at the sports courts, swimming, etc. He is pretty much an active kid who likes to be on the go!

What are every else's plans?

BLT is amazing!!!! We saw it in July! We've stayed at Kidani 1x and jumbo akv 1x. Our next trip to Kidani is in Jan. We are going back down in Aug with another family (very close friends) and we are staying at bwv because that resort offers so much for everyone and its location is amazing! I have NO idea when we will be able to stay in BLT!! i'm on the wait-list until tomorrow for a studio for Halloween weekend but it doesn't look like it's coming through. I really really really don't want to stay at SSR. I stayed at OKW before and didn't care for it too much :rolleyes1...but then again, we will be in disney so I won't be complaining!!! I just love the DVC! :cloud9:

What are every else's plans?

My plans:

No plans! :rotfl:
This is our first cruise and it's only 3 days. We aren't planning anything nor making any reservations! We are on a tight budget (though I just heard I am getting called back to work in 2 weeks!...been laid off) and we don't want to fork over the extra $ for excursions and Palo when we have an entire boat to explore and fun things to do! After spending 5 days in the parks, we'll be ready for a "vacation!" Some time to relax, sleep in, lay on the beach, eat good food, have a few drinks, and have fun with DD...I really can't wait to take her to the family night club! That is an amazing thing to us! We love the night life! We love to dance, sing, have a great time, but we don't like to leave our dd. ...now we can do all of that in a family-friendly atmoshere! PERFECT!!! I also can't wait to try animator's palate, see Toy Story, both parties, and Castaway Cay! (though the name of this island irritates me!!!!!...it should be pronounced "CAY" NOT "KEY"!!!) We have Castaway Bay right by us (indoor waterpark) and I so used to it that it's hard for me to pronounce castaway cay- "key." I will try not to even call the island by name so I don't sound like a fool on the cruise! lol!

DD loves Princess Jasmine and now she's getting into Princess Tiana (Princess and the Frog). I love princess Belle ...and no, I'm not too old to have a favorite princess! My favorite character would def be Mickey! Can't wait to show you guys my tats :goodvibes
DD plays basketball, soccer, and she's trying tennis for the 1st time this winter.
DH just likes to see his girls have a good time! He likes Disney movies and characters, but he's not into the fun facts, trivia, or keeping up on new stuff. He kinda listens to me go on and on and on! lol :rotfl: Dh likes to kick back and relax. He is definitely easy like Sunday morning!

Overall, we are a fun family! We love to laugh and have a great time! I am a little more reserved around mom and dad-in-law because they are pretty quiet people and think I'm a nut (in a good way though!). I'm hoping that they are used to my Disney sillyness by the time we get to the ship and I can 'cut' up a little bit! lol!

We've been on the wait list for all 3 nights next weekend at BLT for MONTHS! I even tried Kidani for all 3 nights and couldn't get in either! I hear what you say about OKW. We've only stayed there once and I don't think I'd stay there again. We've never stayed at SSR but we've put my parents up there a couple times and they liked it---they stayed at Kidani though in Julyand said it's their new favorite along with the Beach Club. We love the Beach Club, AKV and Wilderness Lodge the best. We had a 1 bedroom for 8 nights in August at AKV and it was absolutely awesome. Much nicer than the 1 bedrooms in Jambo House and we love those too. We stayed in concierge in Jambo House 1 night before our cruise in August and really enjoyed it. We are staying there for 2 nights before our cruise in December. We really enjoyed the little "extras." We've stayed at all the moderates and Pop and All Star Moives and enjoyed those ones too. Any time we are at Disney we love it!

We'll be at Chef Mickey's this time next Friday. I can't wait. It's raining here and freezing and I really wish we were there NOW!

We'll have to get your DS14 together with Keegan (my son who is 12) and Jake (my friend's son who is 13). They are both sports fanatics especially for football and will be living at the sports deck the 3 days. I think Keegan will be trying to hang out in the Stack with Jake if he can. He doesn't really care for the lab, especially if he's not cruising with a friend. He can be quite shy.

I thought the Toy Story show was okay. I liked it a bit more the 2nd time I saw it. I think the props are great. DH didn't like it much--he said he didn't like a woman playing Sid and she pretty much screams her songs.

The pirate museum was pretty neat. The funny thing is we went to Atlantis after and had on our wrist bands from the museum stil. My dad took the boys to see some of the outside areas while DH, my mom and I checked out the inside/casino and he said the guard saw their pirate wrist bands and waved them through. We've thought about getting a room at Atlantis in the past or at the Comfort Inn, but ds8 wasn't tall enough at the time for a lot of the slides. We may try do to that in Dec 2010 when Beth, Keegan, Jake and I sail with our DH's and my ds8 and her 2 other kids. Beth and I just want to take it easy on the 3 day in January and enjoy the adult pool and adult beaches since when we last sailed together we never made it to either. We were at the Mickey pool most of the time with our younger kids and the family beach. They are awesome too but we just want to relax a bit, have some nice adult beverages and know that Keegan and Jake will be okay on their own at the sports deck or stack.

OMG that's funny!!! we almost booked a 8:40pm resie for chef mickey's for next friday!! :rotfl: I decided that was too late for dinner tho. We are only doing the QS DDP because of our budget, but we did schedule a dinner at Sanaa Fri at 5pm because 1) we can't decide between Boma and Sanaa for our Jan trip and we've never tried Sanaa and 2) our TIW card expires on the 31st! ...we wanted to do 1 TS while there and use the TIW one more time.

Maybe we could meet sometime next weekend and break the ice before our cruise!! :woohoo:

Here's our itinerary for next weekend: (Oct 30-Nov 3)

Fri
MK- AK for EMH

Sat
EMH EPCOT
BWV for Halloween festivities
Back to Epcot for Illuminations

Sun
AK
DHS for EMH (7-10)

Mon
DHS (I think Fantasmic is showing this day...I forget)
EMH MK @ 9pm

Tues
:sad1:

About the resorts, here's a quick resort resume:

March 2005 Off Property :scared1: (almost became DVC members)
April 2006 OKW-1bdrm ($$$ resie :scared1:)
April 2007 Off Property :sad2: (disney was completely booked :confused3)...became DVC members!
Nov 2007 AKV-Jumbo 1bdrm
July 2008 (just mom and dad trip!!) POFQ
Sept 2008 BCV 2bdrm & 1 studio (with friends)
June-July 2009 CSR
July 2009 AKV 2 bdrm-Kidani Village

Upcoming:
oct 2009 SSR
Jan 2010 AKV
Aug 2010 BWV

Of all these, so far, bcv are my favorite- although the dvc building looked somewhat neglected and the rooms needed a little updating. I can't wait for BLT and BWV!!! I think BLT will be my favorite for the actual room and BWV will be my favorite for amenities, pool, location, and everything else!!!

We did the QS DDP the day before our cruise in August. I was very happy not to have the regular DDP because we had a hard time just using our credits with the QS plan. We went to MK and had dinner at Cosmic Rays, did a few rides and went back for an early night in bed. I had a Dole Whip and used a snack credit. The next morning we could have had breakfast in the concierge lounge since it had tons of offerings but we wanted to use our last QS credit. We had breakfast at the Mara and used snack credits for danishes/cinnamon rolls. We had our refillable drink mugs and the 2 drinks we each got with the ddp, we saved in the rental car to use after the trip.
We were on the regular ddp after the cruise and we still had a hard time using all our snack credits. We stopped off at the super Target and bought a case of water, case of gatorade, some snacks, frozen mini pizzas and a huge box of waffles. We ended up leaving most of the drinks and snacks still sealed because we never got to use them all from having the mugs and being full all the time with the regular meals. We had to go to the gift shop and use about 8 snack credits the day we left. Although we love Kindani, the only thing we didn't like is that they do not have a counter service restaurant at Kidani and limited snacks. You'll have to let us know about Sanaa. It really looks like a nice restaurant.

On Friday, we are flying down at 9AM (we may stay at a BWI airport hotel on Thursday if we get a good deal) and will check into Kidani around noon to get our KTTW cards. Our tentative plans are to see the parade at AK and ride the safari. We have dinner at Chef Mickeys, then a haunted hay ride during Wishes at Ft. Wilderness. I'm surprising the boys with that one. Saturday we have tickets to MNSSHP. That morning we may do the AM EMH at DHS and go back and rest in the afternoon. We have dinner at the Crystal Palace. Sunday we have to check into BLT and may do Epcot. We have dinner at Whispering Canyon. Monday we leave at 7PM and will just wing it with our plans. Even the other days we may wind up somewhere else except for the meals. We took it easy in touring in August, only going to 1 rope drop and spending a lot of time at the resort, sleeping in, going to the water parks, etc so it's going to be hard to motivate the troops to get up early again. In August we hardly even went to the parks except for the ADRs we had and to ride a few favorite rides. We have AP's and have been enough that we didn't feel the need to go, go, go all day from morning to night like we used to do before APs. Next weekend is definitely a popular weekend! I know about 6 people that are going to be there. We've only done MNSSHP one other time and really loved it.

DS will have just turned 14 the week before the cruise, so he will still act like a 13 yo., LOL. The last cruise we went on all he did was spent time with the boys at the sports court.

We had a great quick trip. We couldn't have had better weather!

We lucked out with the airport hotel having free parking and a free shuttle. We were 5 minutes from BWI airport and were so glad to have booked the room there. Friday we checked into Kidani, went to Animal Kingdom and saw the parade, Festival of the Lion King and walked the Pangani Trails before going to Chef Mickeys. We did the hayride at Ft. Wilderness that night and it was awesome. The headless horseman came out at us at the end.

Saturday morning we went to Epcot and did Soarin, Test Track and walked around the World Showcase. My ds8 did the kidcot mask and got all of the country stamps. We ate dinner at the Crystal Palace and did MNSSHP. We had a great time and loved the parades. The fireworks were great too. Of course we staked out a great spot 30 minutes early right in front of the castle and the absolutely only one to stand when they started was right in front of us! Everyone (but us) was yelling at him to sit down but he never did. Another guy came up and stood in front of the 1st guys wife and they yelled at him ironically. It was a great fireworks show .

Sunday we went to the Florida Mall and then checked into Bay Lake Towers and swam until our dinner at Whispering Canyon. We watched the fireworks from the 16th floor and it was an awesome sight. Yesterday we went to Hollywood Studios in the morning and then hopped to the Magic Kingdom before flying out.

We enjoyed Bay Lake Towers but we all agreed we liked Kidani more. I'm still glad we have points at BLT but for a week long stay we'd rather be at AKV. We had a studio at BLT and it felt much more cramped than studios at AKV. We also didn't like the sliding bathroom door that didn't lock and that the bathroom sink was out of the bathroom and near the kitchen in a galley style room. I just kept thinking about all those previous guests using the bathroom and touching that flat knob to get out before their hands were washed. I made sure to lysol everything down good! We did love the fireworks on the 16th floor and the ability to walk to MK and take the monorail. The boys liked the pool but said they liked the one at Kidani more. I think we'll probably stay at BLT before/after cruises and stay at Kidani for longer stays.

By the way Danielle, I just realized that you and I were at the same park at the same time!! We were at epcot halloween morning too. The 3 of us stood out like sore thumbs because I was all decked out in my homemade gypsy costume and both of the girls were wearing their princess jasmine costumes!!!

Wow! That's such a coincidence. I don't recall seeing you but I'll have to look in the background of my pictures. We spent most of the time from about 11-4 in the World Showcase. We were in Future World earlier and right before leaving the park to go to MK for MNSSHP.

On halloween we went to DHS at 8am and then headed over to Epcot at 9:00am. We were in Future world from 9am-12:00 and then we attempted to head into the world's showcase. By this time I thought I was going to die from heat exhuastion!!! OMG!! That gypsy costume was layered and it was thick! I imagine that if I were close enough to be in one of your pics, you probably saw me cause I was pretty colorful! :lmao:

Welcome Tigger!

I just received our FE in the mail this afternoon that I ordered for our December cruise and wanted to share a picture:
http://i873.photobucket.com/albums/ab297/hanoverbrennan2001/DecCruiseFE.jpg

I had gradysmom on ebay do it. She did another one for us a few years ago, but I wanted one with Christmas colors since this is the 4th Dec in a row we've cruised and we will cruise again next Dec.

I'd be up for doing an FE exchange. I'm not so sure about Beth, but she might be interested. I did buy her family an FE from gradysmom for the cruise we sailed on with her family last December so that I could put little treats in it each day for them. She wasn't part of our FE exchange and doesn't Dis (imagine the horror!) but I'm trying to slowly bring her to our side! I wanted her kids to get little trinkets since they'd see them in our FE on our stateroom door.

I'll have the other FE on our January cruise and it doesn't have me, dh or my son's names on the pockets of that one so Beth and I and the boys can share. It does have me and Keegan's last name on the top but I don't think Jake and Beth will mind.

I made our FE from a tote bag for our last cruise ill have to put a pic up of it sometime.. Can't wait to get on board, I wish it were January already! It's somewhat of a "celebration" cruise for us.. I got accepted into The Disney College Program at WDW and Ill be starting on 2/1! and we thought it made sense to go on a cruise because we'll be in Orlando the week before :lovestruc :cool1:

Congrats on the 2011 cruise bookings! We haven't booked any 2011 cruises (yet). We are waiting to get some quotes when we are on the Magic next month since we can get 10% off and a better OBC if we book onboard. We also have to take a good look at the boy's schedules in 2011 and figure out when we can go. It's getting harder and harder to cruise with them missing school because they are getting a lot more work to make up as they get older and they both play sports and will get benched the 1st half of the 1st game after missing practices for vacation. We did get a quote for an Alaska cruise but it was $8400 for 7 days with no insurance, flights or transfers and we thought it was too much. I'd rather be on the Dream and see all the new restaurants, etc. that will be offered. Our Med and Baltic cruises were/are longer and about that cost. I saw an advertisement in our local paper a couple weeks ago for 14 days in Alaska with 6 days on Celebrity cruise line and included excursions, food on the land portion and all kinds of shows, hotel stays on land, train rides, etc for $2400 per person. I think with the Dream coming out and when the novelty of DCL going to Alaska dies down, prices my go lower. I know they have for the DCL Med cruises for 2011 (compared to 2007).

We had a Disney Cruise Line house party this weekend and I have several left over token codes for a free 4 day cruise. If anyone is intertested in having one please PM me. I know that 2 or 3 Disers won a free 4 day cruise last year after the House Party in January 2008. It would be nice if one of us won!!

Hey everyone,

I'm interested in the FE too. I think a Jan 1 cut off is good too. For our 12/5 cruise we had a cut off for Nov 1 and ended up with 15 cabins with something like 31 adults and 21 kids. We had lots of other people want to join afterwards, but we really needed a cut off because a lot of people were making things and wouldn't have the time to keep adding more. I don't think I've ever had that many FE cabins on a cruise without breaking them down to smaller groups. I have an entire duffle bag packed with stuff to give out. I'm hoping to only have one bag between Keegan and I for our January cruise. We are flying down the night before and leaving the night we disembark so we won't need too many clothes. We aren't going to get too dressed up for dinners (we won't be wearing jeans or shorts but maybe capris & tops for me and khakis/polo for Keegan). The boys are off school now for an entire week for Thanksgiving and teacher/parent conferences for report cards. I'm hoping to have the boys try on their dress clothes I bought for dinners on the Magic to make sure everything fits. Keegan's grown 4 inches since July and I kept the tags on everything just in case I need to exchange stuff.

I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!!

As this will be my first cruise doing FE, I read another thread where the person in charge also assigned a day to each participant, so they could receive surprises each day. Is assigning a day typically done in FE? If not, I think this is a great idea. What does everyone else think?

As an update, so far, I have kept the cruise secret!! Yay! Although it is getting harder, DD is really lobbying for a cruise vacation! Yikes! It should be interesting shopping on Black Friday {Yes, I am one of those crazy Black Friday Shoppers!!!} as DD usually shops with us. I will need to make an excuse for why I am picking up so much crafting supplies, when I don't do crafts!!! LOL.

I have figured out how we are going to surprise them with the cruise. As I mentioned previously, they will find out at Christmas that they are going to Florida for five days. We will be telling them that after the first night we have to change hotels because Mom got a better deal at another hotel.

So, on the morning of the cruise, we will check out of the hotel, put our bags in the car. We will have told the kids we are going back to the car rental place because I don't like the car and we will need to switch. We will drive to the car rental place, where I will turn in the car. We are planning on telling them we have to get on the shuttle to pick up our replacement car, but it's going to take us an hour because the shuttle has other stops to make first. Then, when we get to the Wonder, we are going to tell them to hurry off the shuttle so we can go on our 3 day cruise!

Hopefully my plan will work! Thanks to the DIS for allowing me to vent so I don't ruin my surprise cruise!

My in-laws will probably bring dressier clothes than us. The only time I've ever dressed up while on vacation was for Victoria & Albert's...I dunno, vacation+dressing up= Not fun in my book. We'll probably be doing khakis, capris, and nice tops as well.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving and hope you did too! Thank you!

I added your name to the roll call on page 1. I don't think we've set up an official meet yet. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm Danielle and I'm sailing with my friend Beth and both of our oldest sons. My son is Keegan and he's 12 and her son is Jake and he's 13. We are leaving our DH's and younger kids at home this trip. Our entire family's went on a 4 day last December and we'll be all sailing together again in Dec 2010. We got a great deal on the 1/28 cruise with the Kids Sail Free promotionl and after seeing what it would be to split the cost it was too good of a deal to pass up. We are looking forward to relaxing and actually getting to use the adults only pool and maybe even make Serenity Bay. It will be my 11th DCL cruise and the last time I was at either was on my 1st cruise! Generally I'm at the family beach and Mickey pool with my now ds8 and DH. Jake and Keegan have told us that they want some time to themselves (no doubt to scout out girls they'll be too afraid to say hi to). They'll probably be living at the sports deck when we are out at sea.

On the longer cruises I've been on usually they try to schedule people participating in the FE's for all 7 days that way you don't get everything on one day and none the rest of the trip. Some people give multiple items and do them on different days. I find it easier to do it all at once. The ship is huge when you are walking from one end to the other on several decks delivering them. We can schedule 3 people--one each for Thursday, Friday and Saturday and anyone else participating can deliver them when they want.... Or we can schedule morning/evening time slots scheduled if we have 6 people participating or morning/afternoon/evening by day if we get 9 or more people. Let's see how many people are going to be involved in mid-late December so we have a better picture of scheduling it.

Hanover - thank you! It was so exciting to see my name on the front page - I love the Dis folks I meet!

We decided to add another room to our cruise! My husband and his sister and her grandchild will be coming also!

Now we have two rooms
1.
Me
DH Ed
DD9 Abigail
2.
DM Nanny Jack,
DSiL Alley
DGD (is that correct?) Anna

I am not sure if they will be doing the FE but I will find out and let you know.

I know what you mean by spending time in the adult area. This will be my 6th cruise and I have only been to the adult beach once for hour last July and I have Never sat in a deck chair in the adult pool, although I have gone into the hot tub once. Also, I did not hit any of the adult activities in the evening until my June 9 cruise - they are really fun!

I will be looking for you on the adult loungers, serenity beach and the spa!

Hi Jennifer, Jen and Kindra - looks like we have girls around the same age. On our last cruise we had the girls start emailing each other in the months before to get to know each other before they arrived. We also had a separate "meet" just for the girls and they decorated foam hats and cup coolers. My daughter thinks it will be a good idea for us to put together a quiz for them to take that covers their favorite web sites or TV shows. That way they can get to know each other better.

Do we want to arrange something like that? The four girls that met in June are still friends and email each other!

Ok, so far, we haven't made any plans at all for the cruise. No palo reservations, no Nassau reservations, nada...then this evening I was looking at the website (seeing if we were assigned a room yet) and began looking at the jetski excursion. Dh and I did a jetski tour in Cancun when we were there and it was amazing! FIL told DH that he would love to do something like that but didn't think MIL would ever do it.

I told DH to call him mom and tell her she's going on a jet ski...no questions asked. She usually listens to anything that comes from her baby boy :rotfl: and sure enough, she said she'd do it!!

YAY! :cool1: I reserved a double for DD and I, MIL and FIL, and a single for DH on Jan 30 at cc at 10:00am  I'm so excited! This is going to be so much fun!

I don't think we'll even get off the ship in Nassau. I love going to the spa when we are in Nassau because it's a great deal ($125 for an hour long massage/facial and an hour in the Rainforest Room). We've been to Atlantis, the pirate museum, the straw market a few times and the Blue Lagoon Dolphin excursion before and enjoyed those.

Kindra, my DH and Keegan have done the jet skis twice and loved it. Keegan and I have done the parasailing on CC few times and loved it too. The last cruise we were on Brennan was finally old enough to do jet skis and parasail and unfortunately we almost missed docking (they had to try about 3 times) due to strong currents and it was so windy they cancelled all excursions. We could't even do the water trikes or kayaks. We found lots to do anyways!

Absybabsy, I'll add your other family members to roll call. That's great they are all able to join you!

Amanda

Amanda, I just now saw this and I think it's a GREAT idea!!! My dd is now bugging me "mommy can I get my own email!??!??!" :rotfl:

YAY!! This will be so much fun!!! we will set her up her own email and I'll let you know her address asap :)

Also, I see that you are booked on the Feb 27, 2011 dream cruise!!! yay!!!!! can't wait! This is just too cool!

edit:
we got her an email account. her email is totfan8@yahoo.com!!! yay! btw, her name is pronounced ramaya :)

Regarding the $125 deal...how do I sign up?!? Do I wait until we dock at Nassau before they offer the deal or can I sign up now?

They will offer specials on board. You can sign up now but only for the normal spa prices not the specials. On my 3 night Cruise last January they offered a "girls night out" for $125. I did it with my mother and my friend. We started out changing into robes they provide, then off to the rain forest where they provided champaign and chocolate covered strawberries. We relaxed and were called by our individual massuses (sp?) I had the facial, back massage and foot massage - it was awsome and it lasted over an hour - but scheduled for one hour. Since it was late, they gave us rain forest passes for the next day.

It was wonderful!!!! Hopefully they will have another girls night out so I can splurge on my Bday!

That just sounds heavenly!! I would LOVE to relax in the rainforest room and drink champaign and eat choc covered strawberries...ahhhh...that's a vacation! :cloud9: Btw, just saw dd's email come in, she's in bed already because she goes to daycare very early in the morning this week. I can't wait to tell her she's got her very first email ever! hehe :woohoo: She'll be very excited!

Kindra--like Absybabsy said, it's listed in the navigator when there's a special and you just call the spa and make an appointment. Luckily I've never had a problem getting in. The girls night out sounds great too!

I'm debating about getting a Rainforest pass for our cruise that leaves Saturday. I've only been an hour after the massage as part of the spa deal I've done about 4 times but would like to be able to go more often this trip. I really like it and hope to talk DH into going at least once. I had one bad experience with some nut in there last year though---it was just me and him and I stayed 5 minutes and left because he creeped me out. He was literally screaming at the poor attendant saying the saunas weren't hot enough and " it must be because all of the fat out of shape people complaining about it" and he starts with the F bomb and everything. I told the lady at the desk to check on the attendant and left. Then I go to the DVC members meeting and who sits 2 seats away from us---same guy. He makes a total you know what out of himself to the point that the DVC guide actually gets smart at him right back. Among lots of dumb comments made, when the DVC guide was calling names for different prizes, this loud mouth actually said that the guy was dead (he wasn't obviously). Turns out the guy's wife was a CM and at the CC Members meeting we find out that he caused a scene at dinner when they wouldn't let him go through the handicapped entrace at Lumieres (he wasn't handicapped) and they threated to kick him off the ship if he didn't stop his behavior. Out of 9 DCL cruises so far that is the only truly unpleasant person we've ever come across. I feel so bad for his wife! We ended up signing papers (along with several others) for the DVC guide so he didn't get in trouble if the nutty guy complained.

We are all packed up and ready for our flight to WDW/DCL tomorrow night. I've been working around the clock trying to get everything done that is due by 12/15 for work. My ds8 has wrestling for 3 hours tonight and my dh is on evening shift (he's a police officer) so I won't be getting much done tonight. It's freezing cold here and I just can't wait to be in warm weather!!

Oh I'm so happy for you that you are leaving soon (and jealous)!! hehe!

I cannot stand to be around people like the guy you described!! I am sort of loud by nature and my laugh is pretty loud- (My friends tell me it's contagious), but I'm never loud AND obnoxious in a bad way. I am loud in a way that would've told that guy a thing or two once we were away from young children and older adults :rolleyes1....I have NO problem expressing my loud opinion when it's needed an no one else has the guts to do it! :rotfl:

Would you ladies consider doing the spa during the nassau time? I think that would be a wonderful getaway and nice chance for us girls to relax and get to know one another :goodvibes. I guess we can play it by ear and see, because we can't book it now anyway. I just wanted to throw the idea out there.

I hope you have a wonderful trip Danielle and you get everything done you need to get done before leaving without excessive stress!!! :laundy:

Bring us lots of pics and a report :thumbsup2

Getting together sounds good to me. I'll have to ask Beth if she's interested but I'm sure she will be. Maybe we could get together at one of the night time events too that they in Rockin D Bar, etc. Do you have early or late dining? We have early dining and requested one of the servers my family had years ago as an assistant server that is now a head server (Miguel from Peru).

Hey Hanover and Kendra657 - I would love for us all to get together on Nassau day - what a great way to spend part of the day and get to know each other. The last couple times I did the spa, they included a rain forest pass on the day of your spa treatment. We can hang before or after our "treatments" to get to know each other. Any one else in?

On prior cruises, I have attended meets so everyone can see each other and have a few minutes to hang. I found a great place and time to be the Promenade Lounge at 3pm. Should we plan our dis meet for then?

If we run into that guy in the rain forest, Kendra657 and I will certainly have a word or two with him. LOL

Amanda

P.S. I'm in for Rock'n D Bar - is there a wine tasting on the 3 night?

Danielle, My husband is also a police officer, although he works straight midnights and have a great cruise, the Eastern Cruise has always been my personal favorite!

I would like to do a night time meet! Maybe the first night? We have first dining seating, mostly because my FIL has to eat at a certain time for medicinal reasons. We've never cruised before so we don't know anything about the servers. I just really hope we have a great server! I really would like my in-laws to have a disneytastic time!

Amanda, I think the 3pm quick meet would be fantastic! This will give us a chance to introduce our kids and meet face to face. I'm sure my in-laws and my dd will be wanting to do their own thing, so I'm open for a longer initial meet, but those guys may take off on us! :rotfl:
The adult meet in the Rock'n D sounds like a wonderful idea too!!

As long as they are offering spa specials on Nassau day, I am 100% in!! We should make sure we all know one another's staterooms #'s (we can call room to room for free right?) so that we can call one another once we get more info on the spa.
I will ask my MIL if she'd like to join. Please don't get offended if she doesn't though!! She's one of those people who are hard to get to know...you know the type; not very open to strangers and very critical of others. I love her to death but it's taken over 12 years to establish that love! :rotfl2:

This is such a great forum - lots of great ideas! I got a spam e-mail about the kids sail free yesterday and ended up booking that night! I'm alternating between being excited and wishing we had done WDW instead. But this will be new and seems like it will be more relaxing. Well, WDW isn't relaxing at all :)

We have a 10 yr old DS, 8 yr old DD, 5 yr old DS and 11 yr old DNiece.

I would love to the the Fish Extenders - that looks cute!

We are doing a back to back trip and staying on for 4 more days - is anyone else?

Can't wait to meet everyone.

Hi Diane and welcome! I see that you have an 8 year old - we have several girls around that age on this meet. My 9 year old is already emailing another girl her age - it helps them to get to know each other before they arrive. It would be great if your niece wants to email also - if she is not too "grown up" to hang out with 8 and 9 year olds! LOL

We are also working on a 3pm Promenade lounge meet on embarkation day - it will give us a chance to meet and our kids to "hang" In July, I brought some crafts for the kids to do and it really helped them to bond quickly.

Only 50 days left!

Hey guys we are back. Still unpacking and looking at a mound of laundry. Our flight was delayed due to freezing rain in the North East so we didn't get home until about midnight Sunday. We had school/work yesterday then wrestling last night including team/individual pictures and official league weigh ins. I'm finally holding my head above water with work tasks getting caught up.

Welcome to those new to our sailing group.

We had a wonderful cruise and great weather once we got sailing. It was raining and in the 60's the Friday we were at WDW. The Christmas parade taping was supposed to be that day but was delayed due to the weather. It poured all day. We were able to ride the refurbished Space Mountain and several other rides before picking up my MIL at BLT and taking her back to AKV. We had a great dinner at Whispering Canyon and went to bed early to get up early to head to the port. It was overcast and misting most of the day we boarded and at the Sail Away party. I'm not sure if the Magic had an abbreviated Sail Away party or what, but it was no where near the energy we've had the last 4 Wonder sailings. We had great weather in Tortola and St. Thomas with it being 88 and in the lower 80s respectively. We had wonderful excursions with the exception of our big taxi carrying 30 of us running out of gas a mile from the St. Thomas port and not a single cell phone or radio on any of us. Police passed us right by and luckily my DH spotted an empty passing similar taxi and flagged her down. We did the kayak, hike and snorkel in St. Thomas and two excursions in Tortola: Rain Forest/Beach in the morning and swim with the dolphins in the afternoon. We had great dinner wait staff and a great stateroom host. Palo (as usual) was to die for and we probably ingested more calories between high tea, brunch and dinner than we'd need in a month but they were worth every one. The food in the regular dining rooms was great too. We had pretty smooth sailing which was great. We were able to see the premEAR at midnight Tortola time for the Princess and the Frog (Tortola is ahead 1 hour from Eastern Standard Time). Princess Tiana was onboard and she is beautiful. The boys had a great time in the club and met some great kids to hang with. We stayed at Jambo House/AKV concierge 2 nights before the cruise and at Bay Lake Towers the day we got off the cruise. We went to Epcot Saturday during the day, had dinner at Ohana and went to MK to see Wishes. Luckily we didn't stay to 1AM for EMH hours like we planned because several monorails got stuck from a computer malfunction. Some were able to get to unload that were near stations but 3 monorails were completely stuck for over 3 hours between 1-4 AM! On Sunday we went to Hollywood Studios in the morning and hopped to MK around 2:30 until we left for the airport at 5:00 PM. It was tough leaving 85 F sunny skies in Orlando and coming back to yucky overcast, cold weather.

We rebooked on board for me, dh and our 2 boys on the 7/24/11 5 night Dream with 2 stops in CC. We also rebooked with my MIL, and DH's two stepbrohters/wives/kids (13 total) for 11/26/11 Western Magic.

They had some great $ discounts for adding on DVC points but since we added on twice last year and are content with our points we skipped it.

Castaway Cay was a bit overcast but we still loved every second of being there. The new slides and play area going up near the teen beach look great.

Please let me know if anyone has any questions.

DVCnewgirl--sorry you can't join us. I hate when our boys schools do the same thing with make up days over Spring Break and MLK & President's Days. I wish they'd just build permanent quarterly vacations in the school calendar!

Awesome trip!!! Glad you had a great time! It does stink coming home to poopy weather, I completely agree!

Was this your first time staying at BLT? How'd you like it? What type of room were you in? What did you like better?: kidani or BLT?
We are booked for the last week in Aug but I doubt we will keep that vacation week and plans may change.
The monorail situation sounds a bit scary tho!

Question: are down payments the same when booking onboard?

Kindra--it was our 2nd time staying at Bay Lake. We stayed there one night in October after being at Kidani 2 nights.

Personally we like Kidani better but they both have their pros/cons.

For BLT:

Pros:Can't beat the location!! It's awesome to be able to walk back from MK in less than 10 minutes. The monorail and boats are very convenient to get around. The bar/overlook on the top of BLT is fantastic. To see the MK fireworks and hear the piped in music is so cool.

Cons: You have to check in at the Contemporary.
We stayed in a studio each time and they are smaller feeling than the ones in Kidani. I HATE the sliding bathroom door. It has a 1 inch gap and even though it's only my DH and boys in the room with me I don't like that feeling that it's not completely private. The bathroom sink is also outside the bathroom in the kitchen galley area. Costs way more DVC points than the other DVC studios.

Kidani:

Pros: very small, quiet lobby/check in. It's not the very loud/busy check in you see at other resorts. Rooms are a great size and so beautifully decorated. The one bedroom was phenominal to stay in for 8 days this past August. I could have lived year round in it!
Where else outside of Africa can you stay and wake up with animals outside your bedroom window? Beautiful resort with great artifacts. I read somewhere they have the most African artifacts in one place outside of Africa. The covered parking is great in bad weather! Kidani is the first stop for bus pick before Jambo House and first to be dropped off. The Super Target is just down the street. It's not as far out as what people think compared to other parks.

Cons: I don't like the fact that you can't use a Counter Service credit there from the dining plan. DVC guides have told me there's been lots of complaints and they can see that changing soon. The rooms are a tad dark, but it's with the theme and is plenty to see/read in.

In terms of down payment, do you mean for the cruise or DVC add ons? If it's for the cruise, you get 10% off and an on board credit. In terms of adding on points, supposedly it's a better deal to add on while cruising. I know the guide last week said they were getting tons of add ons. We added on twice last year while cruising and are happy with our points. Of course we just got an email this week saying they are giving out free annual passes with an add on of 100 or more points to AKV and the Grand Californian. That would have been nice seeing as we just paid almost $1600 for them to be renewed. I don't recall the exact price per point for AKV but I do know it was less than when we first bought back in 2007. I think it was something like $23 off if you bought 100 or more add on points.

Danielle, I actually think I asked you this before (BLT vs. Kidani) because now I remember you saying this :lmao: sorry.
About the down payment, I was curious about the down payment on the cruise. I know it's $200 per person and I was wondering if I should scramble together an extra $600 to book our next cruise during the one in Jan. I've been trying to avoid adding on points again! If I'd stop bringing everyone with us to Disney and using my points for large rooms or multiple rooms, I wouldn't need so many points!

Did you get your Disney Visa through a DVC code? Even though I had 2 Disney Visas, I applied for another over the summer and got $100 Disney gift card after my first purchase. My husband did the same thing and got one too.

We haven't received our ME documents yet or anything on any upgrades. We are only doing ME on the way home and taking a town car from the airport to the Residence in Wednesday night. I just checked my reservation and we are still in the same stateroom. I wrote my TA to see if she can get us a more midship room on deck 2 because right now we are near the back portside. I've never been on deck 2 but if it's like deck 6 or 7, the back and the front rooms have more motion.

That's awesome about your upgrade!!

no i didn't get the visa thru a dvc code! i didn't know anything about that ...guess i'm going to have to keep a lookout for that! you said that back and front rooms have more motion...we are toward the front ...i hope i don't get too sea sick!! i need to go back to page 1 of this thread and see any updates you've made. i hope we get that week off of work for the new year that the company is considering! it'll give me some more time to get everything together! this trip is creeping up on me so fast!!!
also, MIL and FIL expressed an interest in going to dinner where they can "dress up" so we did make Palo resies for the 2nd day of the cruise at 6:30pm.
if you could choose which restaurant you would skip from the rotation, which one would it be? why?

I just checked on dvcmembers.com and under members privledges, there's still an advertisement with the $100 deal. You could always buy something, get your $25 and cancel and reapply. Or you could also apply with the $100 code and you'd have it by the time we cruise. With Southwest Airlines, we always take the deals they have and cancel and reapply. We've received 4 free flights in the last 2 years from applying to get the credit card and paying the $59 annual fee but got reimbursed $39 under a deal once and paid $59 the other time. Even with the annual fee you can't get a round trip flight for $59 anywhere these days. Marriot has great deals too with free hotel rooms if you spend $100. We always pay them off then cancel and then later reapply. We always get approved even after cancelling and we really make out!

In terms of room motion you might not even feel much more motion yourself. I was one of the kids that always got sick on merry go rounds and anything that spins. I take a bonine a few hours before we leave on embarkation day and sometimes on the ship and I'm fine. The smaller boats are what gets me good. Brennan (my ds8) has never gotten sick on 10 DCL trips but gets sick every time we go on small boats. I felt the ship the most when we were in the very last room on deck 7 and the 4th from the front on deck 8. Those were on 7 day cruises and we were traveling further and I think faster than what we'll do on a 3 night. My TA did manage to get us a little bit further from the back on deck 2. Now we are near the aft elevators as opposed to 5rooms from the back. I think that will be a decent location with spending a lot of time going up to decks 9 and 10.

About skipping a restaurant--- I'd say if you are going to skip one, I'd skip Lumiere's or Parrot Cay. I would suggest not missing the "show" in Animator's Palate. Both Parrot Cay and Lumiere's do breakfast so you can always experience the ambiance of the restaurants. Check out the menus on castwayclub.com and see which one appeals the least to them for dinner. I like being in Lumiere's on "dressy night'' and parrot cay on pirate night but they are all good on any night. We won't know our rotation until we get to the terminal so you just have to hope and if you don't get the one you request (if you did make a request) then you can make changes once you board. Last time we had to make Palo changes on the Wonder it was in Studio Sea. Beth and I are doing Palo the last night. We figure we won't have a lot to pack with it being a 3 night --you have to have everything out by 11PM and we didn't want to miss the 1st night or Pirate Night. I think Keegan and Jake will still go to dinner and we will let them give the wait staff our tips. I get Palo free since I'm now a platinum Castaway Cay Club member and I didn't want to give that perk up. We still want to try and make Disney Dreams too which I think is the best of the shows.

Thanks for all your info Danielle! Being in Cat 3, we were able to choose our dining rotation. Here's how I decided: 1st night: Animator's Palate, 2nd night Palo, 3rd night Triton's. We can order room service from any menu on the ship so if there is something someone really wants from the lunch or dinner menu at Parrot Cay, we can order room service from there for lunch or something.
How cool to be a Platinum CC member!! I'm not even a normal CC member yet!! :rotfl: Maybe by 2020 I'll be platinum like you :thumbsup2 lol!!!

Not long now! It was so cold this morning, only 59 degrees. I had to put on two pairs of sweat pants and two jackets because of the wind. It made me realize that I do not have any winter clothes. Don't think I will buy any - then it will have to be sunny and warm!

Happy 2010! I'm so glad we can say we are sailing this month! Anyone get their documents yet? We got our Magical Express tickets for the way back from the Beach Club to the Airport. We are doing a town car from the airport to the Residence in on 1/27 and back to the Beach Club.

We had about an inch or so of snow yesterday and it's been absolutely freezing here. Makes me wonder all the time why we didn't move to Florida after college like we had wanted to do. I do love our home and community but if we could just have nice weather year round I'd love it all the more!

I added the requested info to the 1st page for the FE exchange.

My son is Keegan and he's 12

My friend Beth's son is Jake and he's 13.

Hey gang - not long now - only 25 days!

I propose we meet at 3pm in the Promenade Lounge on deck 3. For the newbies - don't worry you will be able to find it!

I will be happy to put together a typed list showing everyone's name and room number to hand out at the meet. I will bring a pen to make room changes for those (me) that are still hoping for some pixie dust.

I find it is best if we have Dis names, real names and kids ages, along with the room numbers. If you do not feel comfortable posting this info, you can PM me and I will make sure it gets added.

My daughter, Abigail (9) is already exchanging emails with Ramiah. We would love to get to know some other kids around the same age, if you want to join in on the fun - please send me a PM.

I will bring an activity for the kids in the 7-10 age range to do at the meet - does anyone want to volunteer to bring an activity for the younger set? It can be simple (cruise coloring pages and a handful of crayons). I will likely bring foam cups or hats with foam stickers and letters to use to decorate.

We decided to bring my sister in law and her grandchild, Anna with us. Anna is 4 and I am going to surprise them with the fish extenders - they will have no idea what is going on - I will be delivering their extender gifts, along with my own - hopefully, I can keep it a secret how they are getting gifts every day!

We tried to go to Magic Kingdom yesterday - it was packed - the line at the transportation center was way too long. We ended up taking the monorail over to Epcot, which was much better for crowds. We rode on the new Sum of all Thrills - it was great and I recommend you ride it if you are combining the parks and cruise. The end of January is not very crowded so it is a great time to visit the parks, if you can.

How many are staying on the ship instead of hanging in Nassau? I will probably only get off long enough to grab some conch fritters and hit the coach shop (for my birthday gift), about an hour. For those who are planning to stay on board, if you want we can arrange a lunch meet. Let me know if you are interested.

Okay, that is it for me for now. I am going to hit JoAnns today to make the surprise fish extender - I have a coupon.

See ya in 25 days.

Yeah I'm way excited!!! I think we only got lucky because I procrastinated on sending in the cruise voucher. By the time the DCL recieved the voucher, they were out of Cat 4s and we were guaranteed one because we have 5 people. They could've split us into 2 staterooms cat 5 or 6 and I wouldn't have cared!!! I was reading about the different cat 3s and how their layouts are different. Looks like we got one of the rooms that no one else wants (because of the rectangular layout) but you won't hear me complaining about a free upgrade!

Anyway, I was thinking about having like a little dis party in the room since it is so big but I don't think my in-laws would be for it :sad2:.

I have a little craft for the little kids. I have these bookmarks that come with a little stick and the stick is used to "scratch" a design on the bookmark. It's kind of a "make-your-own" thing. I was going to include it in with the FE gifts but they would be great for kids of all ages to keep busy ;). the 3pm promenade sounds great!
also, if other kids join in on the emailing, let me know so that ramiah can email too. she's really liking the whole email thing :cutie:.

My friend was at Epcot yesterday too. He said that future world was a little crowded but the world's showcase was empty. He said it was pretty chilly tho too. I had to remind him about what it's like here in OH!! Poor Joe, he'll be back here in the nasty weather and I'll be in FL in a few weeks :rotfl2:.
He said that the AK is completely empty today. He said they walked onto Everest and Dinosaur without any waits at all! I hope we have crowds like that when we go!!
We'll be in a 2bdrm villa at Kidani Village from the 23rd-28th. I'll have my laptop with me (for school purposes) and I'll be checking in with you guys too. We have our ADRs all set and the touring schedule is all made out! :cloud9: I love planning :) lol

I plan on maybe getting off the ship early in the morn at Nassau but then getting right back on. I'm hoping to catch some nice deals at the spa. DH and I both agreed that we didn't want to take our daughter all over the place at Nassau (even though we hear that it's very safe). I just did a lot of research on human trafficking and I'm still a little freaked out I guess. Even if I get a spa resie, I'm still open for lunch! That sounds very nice.

We have Palo reservations for the 29th at 6:30 :thumbsup2 and we are doing the jet ski excursion on Castaway Cay at 10:00am. Our dining rotation is: Thurs- Animator's Palate, Fri- Palo, Sat- Triton's. I'll probably order room service from Parrot Cay sometime during the cruise just so I can try their food cause I hear it's pretty good. We have main dining seating. What about you guys? What dining seating do you have? BTW, how do they seat so many people and feed them all at the same time? This is still confusing me.

We got a "free" cruise voucher from DVC for adding on 100 points last year. I made the cruise reservation in March 09 but had to mail in the actual voucher 45 days before sailing. I think I mailed it in at the 48 day mark. Anyway, I didn't get a stateroom number until they received that voucher. I'm not sure where you can find your rotational dining but concierge guests are able to choose their dining rotation prior to getting on board. Only request I had was to eat at Animator's Palate the first night and do Palo the second night.
I just reserved some spa treatments for DH and I for day 2. We are doing the couples massage at 3:15pm and the exotic rasul at 5:00pm. I'd rather have an earlier time than 5:00pm because we have Palo reservations at 6:30 so I email concierge to see what they can do. Crossing my fingers! If not, I'll put my hair in a quick and cute updo for dinner. I was considering doing a 7 night cruise sometime on the Magic but I think I'll stick with the 3, 4, and 5 night cruises from here on out....these various excursions and "extras" are getting expensive!!! :headache: but it's all part of the vacation experience :cloud9:

Kindra, you are lucky about the free cruise! We added 105 points at BLT onboard the Wonder in Dec 2008 and got 105 one time points towards a cruise or Adventures by disney. When we sailed in February they were offering the free cruise but we didn't add on. We added on 100 points on the Wonder in August but the DVC guide told us that we couldn't get both the free cruise and the discounted points so we went with the discount. We got AKV for less per point than when we joined in July 2007!

Julie, you'll get your dining rotation when you check in at the terminal and get your Key to the World card. We requested a particular server but I'm not sure of his rotation or if we'll even get him. We have Palo the last night.

We may take the boys close to the port in Nassau in the morning and come back to do the spa in the afternoon. Around the straw market I've seen several police and feel pretty safe---though we have been asked by 2 people on different cruises if we'd like to buy pot (and no we didn't!)

Kindra, we really love the longer cruises because it feels more relaxing and love the sea days--- but we also like taking the shorter cruises because we can add more days at WDW than when we sail 7 days plus.

Absy, thanks for offering to print out the lists. On other DCL cruise meets I've been on, we've done a "roll call" with the information that I can start on a new post. If everyone copies/pastes their information, it will give us a start for a final list. It looks like we have 8 rooms participating in the FE.

Danielle, you have added a lot of points!! With you dedication to Disney, they should give you a free cruise! We only added on one time and it was in Chicago at the "Doorway to Dreams" last Feb. We fell in love with BLT and decided to drive over there to add on. The cruise was a nice bonus! DH wants to add more but with me being laid off this past year, it's probably not a great idea. Besides, 300 points a year is plenty for the 3 of us!...if we'd stop taking everyone else with us! Oh well, I guess we enjoy taking others with us and showing them the nice resorts (cause paying cash for them is crazy expensive!! ).

Hmmm....pot in Nassau?? Guess I'd be eating a lot at Palo!! I'd definately get my $15 worth!!!

I guess I'd really have to fall in love with the DCL for me to forego my WDW trip for a 7 night cruise! We are doing a 4 night on the Dream in Feb 2011 and I'm looking forward to having a relaxing day at sea.

**Just a side note. I call my DH "Don" or "Donald" but when we are around his parents or family, we all call him "Ramal." Because his parents will be with us, you guys will probably hear us call him that unless I am speaking directly to him. His dad's name is Donald too and it helps with confusion. I'm not sure how much his parents will be hanging with us so if you speak directly to him, just call him "Don." :goodvibes

And I am not sure if our FE present (the main one for the stateroom) is going to fit inside a pocket on a FE itself.. but we will try to! :) If they dont.. you'll probably end up with something hanging on your door (i hope no one steals them :scared1: but i doubt they will- theyre personalized!.. oo i wonder if Disney could put it in your room.. that would be very nice of them. ;)

About the cruise documentation: My in-laws got theirs and their luggage tags about 4 days ago and I still haven't gotten mine :confused3

About the spa during Nassau Day-- DH and I have spa treatments from 2p-5p.
Would you all like to meet in the rainforrest room around 11am or 12pm? How do I book an afternoon in the rainforrest room? If we have treatments scheduled, is it included for that day? Are you guys bring your DHs too or will it be for ladies only?
My DH probably would like to go onto Nassau with his parents for a little while if he doesn't go to the rainforrest room so it's not biggie either way.

Also, TDMathews, can you PM me with your DDs' names? I'd like to personalize something for the FE. Anyone else not feeling comfortable with posting their kids' names on here, could you please PM me with their names and ages? Thanks!!!

I would love to meet in the Rainforest room - I think it would be good to meet around 12 or so, after lunch and enjoy the relaxation, time depending on the specials that day!

Last time I went I had the use of the rain forest room all day with a spa treatment - otherwise it is a charge of $15 per day. I don't think I will get my husband to join us - not much of a spa guy.

Kindra - I don't know if you can find a copy of the Passporter's Guide to the Disney Cruise - it is very good and can help you get the most out of your cruise.

I bought the passporter in 07 and 08 but haven't seen the cruiseline one at the bookstore yet. I think I will wait until the newer version comes out with information about the dream! btw, I just bought plane tickets for wdw for feb 22-26!! yay! I'm going down with a good friend of mine and then DH and DD are joining me on the 26th. We are driving down to West Palm Beach for my best friend's wedding! Looks like I'll be in the world when you go on your Feb cruise and we are on the same cruise in 2011 as well (Dream)! Too funny!! :woohoo:

HI tdmathews - Looks like we have 4 nine year old girls going - Alabee, Rahiah, Emily and your daughter, Hanna. The first three are already emailing and calling each other - send me a PM if you want Hanna to join in the emailing and I will send you the email addresses. It also looks like there are 2 11 year old girls. They are close enough in age they will probably all hang out together at some point during the weekend.

I am back on the computer! We moved to South Carolina over Christmas break and things have finally settled down. Well, mostly :)

I still need to order a FE so hopefully I can get it in time. Things have been chaotic here. The cruise always seemed so far off and I kept putting things off...like finding a kennel and a pirate costume. How dressed up are your kids getting for the pirate night?

My kids names are: Eli (10), Ginger (12) Bre (9 next month!) and Silas (5). The girls are in stateroom 6111 and the boys are in 6113.

On our last cruise we were given a specific day we could deliver our gifts (didnt matter what time of day, my mom and I did ours right before we went to bed the night before our assigned day, that way when the people in the room woke up there would be some magic waiting for them!). We have no planned excursion in Nassau. Keegan and I have been several times with my DH and ds8 to Atlantis, the dolphin excursion and local straw market, pirate museum, etc. I think they will have a good police presence near the ports.

The one time we took a van/ taxi to Atlantis they did wait to fill up the vehicle and it was hot---no AC, no seat belts and apparently no deodorant on some passengers too. The driver, like a lot of the ones we saw, was rather erratic and scary. I thought we'd crash a couple times. Not as bad as our driver in Naples on our Med cruise, but bad enough. I've heard that the water taxis can also fill up like sardines.

Beth and I plan to take Keegan and Jake to the straw market, look at some of the cheesy tourist shops and head back to the ship for lunch and the spa.

Not sure if anyone on here has read this but it's worth a look just to use extra precautions: http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2372330

It's a thread about an outbreak of stomach issues some passengers had from the Wonder a week ago. I really think its' a nationwide illness right now though because I know a TON of friends have been sick all over this area with the same symptoms and a bunch of my Facebook friends from my high school in London (my dad was in the Navy) who live all over the U.S. have had it too. Luckily for us we have been clear. I'm glad the kids are off of school tomorrow and 1/2 day Tuesday. Hopefully it will clear out the germs in school. Even a bunch of teachers were out sick with it and one local wrestling team had 30 kids out sick with it!

I can't wait for the trip too! Keegan asked today if we could pack but I held off and we finished up bagging the kid FE gifts. I'll wait until we get onboard to do the adult FE gifts so I can keep them in a box to protect them. Usually we pack a day before but with my younger son's wrestling schedule we may not get the time next Tuesday. I figure we'll need 4 day time outfits, 2 swim suits each, pjs, 2 dinner outfits and pirate t-shirts/pants. It's a super quick trip for us--coming home Sunday night so not much to pack. I am checking accuweather a lot to see if I should pack shorts/capris/pants. I guess I could always take one of each! I'm sure I'll end up overpacking even though I try all the time not to do so!

I forgot to mention that I think the DVC members celebration meet on the 3 day cruise is about 2PM the day we board in Diversions (of course that's subject to change). I know it's overwhelming the first day to plan on anything for certain but it really is a nice meet if you are a DVC member. They do have DVC information sessions later on the cruise if people are interested in joining open to anyone. There's no obligation and they do a raffle for those present to win $300 on board credit. At the members celebration they give out red DVC hats and extra lanyards (you get 2 in the Captains log). You can also win things like DVC towels, bags, lunch coolers and enter for a drawing of about $100.

Kindra, I know you are DVC--even if you didn't book on points you are still able to get any perks DVC members get. You can stop by the DVC desk on deck 4 and let them know your room number and they will give you a "captains log" with DVC lanyards in it and a door magnet.

Kindra, I know you are DVC--even if you didn't book on points you are still able to get any perks DVC members get. You can stop by the DVC desk on deck 4 and let them know your room number and they will give you a "captains log" with DVC lanyards in it and a door magnet.

oh wow!! Thanks for the info Danielle!! I guess I will be meeting you there!! :thumbsup2 I can't believe that we leave this friday!!! I'm so darn excited!!!

Thank you. Then I will do it early as well. I think day 3 is Castaway Cay so I will plan on really early or really late that night so that everyone can wake up to a surprise.

I like doing it the night before that way when you wake up you have a little extra magic to start your day off :)

We are doing gifts for the entire stateroom- so it will include some kid gifts, adult gifts and also a gift for each person in the room as well. It's always fun for everyone to get a gift, even if it is a little thing :) I hope that helps?

HI Boxing Hare - you do not have to join the FE! It is optional and I will be happy to show you more about it on the cruise - one week from today!!!!!

Okay gang, we have one week - that's it. Time to pack or think about packing and time to firm up our meet.

Is everyone okay for a 3pm meet in the Promenade Lounge? For those newbies - just show up and look around - if you look a little lost, I will approach you and ask if you are there for the meet - I am not very shy.

For those with kids - I have an idea that may have them making friends in the port! On my last couple of cruises, I found other Dis members while waiting in line. It was great and the kids started to hand out right away. I suggest that the kids try to meet behind the model cruise ship in the port. Micky and friends pose for pictures on one side - we can meet on the other. Perhaps they can try every 1/2 hour on the 1/2 (10:00, 10:30, 11:00 etc) Then they can talk when we are waiting and if they miss one time, they can try the next. Perhaps they can even hang there for others to find them (with mom or dad, of course).

So who is in for 3pm and who is in for port kids gathering?

I'd like to meet up in the terminal and Promenade Lounge. I'll proably be a few minutes late at 3 since I want to do the DVC Members Celebration in Diversions from 2-3:00PM.

Here's a picture of my family. I really had to go through alot of photos to find one of me in it that was uploaded. I must remember on this trip to get more photos of myself with Keegan because I could only find one recent one with just him and I and we were wearing ponchos and soaked. Keegan's on the left in front of my husband Derek in the picture. He's now as tall as me and his hair is a bit longer. Only my older son and I will be on this cruise with my friend Beth and her son Jake. Jake has has beautiful red hair and will probably be with my Keegan at the sports deck 24/7.

Since we are doing the B2B, I don't know if we will be able to meet at the port. My girls don't know about the B2B yet, we are trying to surprise them and they have not yet caught on! I think they are talking with a few other girls and we may meet at 12:00 at the mickey pool. We will be at the 3:00 pm meet. We are leaving tomorrow and have changed our resort to Boardwalk Inn since we don't arrive until 4:30, I thought it would be fun to hang out at the boardwalk and watch EPCOT fireworks. Check us in Southwest and finishing up packing and we are VERY excited.

Kindra- have a safe trip and see you in 6 days!

5 more days until we head to the airport. I am about 98% done with work tasks that I need to have completed before we leave Wednesday. I still need to figure out what I'm going to pack clothes wise. Brennan had wrestling practice Wednesday, a match last night and we have to be at a gym for a 3 team match starting at 7:30 AM tomorrow which will go through the afternoon. Then Sunday we have to be at another wrestling match with several teams by 6:45 AM and going through the afternoon. More wrestling Monday and then Tuesday I'll finally be able to relax and pack. I almost (almost) wish Brennan didn't wrestle. He loves it though and it definitely keeps him active.

Everyone else going soon-have a safe trip and we'll see you soon!

It's so exciting to surprise kids. We surprised our boys with a cruise in May 2006 for Keegan's 9th birthday. We got all the way to the port and handed Keegan his gift--wrapped DCL documents. They were SHOCKED and so excited. They thought we were just waving to the Magic as it left the port that day. They were further surprised by their grandparents in the terminal that joined us. Enjoy the Boardwalk! We are going to be at the Beach Club when we get of the Wonder for the day. I hope the weather is good enough to enjoy the pool there.

I'm looking over this thread a little late. We are on this same cruise and really looking forward to it. Hanover, I am from PA too and have a 11 year old son who is big time into wrestling. He had a tournament this weekend so I know what you are talking about. You will love this. At the tournament a father of a son that my son wrestled, asked my husband if our son was going in the Eastern Nationals tournament this weekend. My husband informed him that he wasn't because we were taking a cruise. The father then said, "how can you take a vacation during wrestling season?". We just laughed.

DH, DD, and myself will be wearing light blue matching shirts. we are going to the dvc celebration along with Danielle so I may be a few minutes late to the meet at 3 as well. Also, I forgot to pack the little make-your-own bookmarks! :headache: I don't think I put them in the box I shipped either. Sorry. :sad2:

This was my third Disney cruise but first time participating in FE. It was nice coming back to find such wonderful items. We thank you all very much for the cool gifts. It was very overwhelming.
Unfortunately, I didn't make the meet, as we had two extra couples join us at the last minute and I was taking them on a tour as it was their first cruise.

I am so excited I am booked for November 2011! Wooo Hooo!

We are currently awaiting a big snow fall this weekend after getting a few inches yesterday. I can't wait for spring!
