View Full Version : I finally finished my Autograph Albums!!! YEAH! ((WITH PICS))

I FINALLY finished my autograph albums! Thank you so much the FABULOUS DISigners for their disigns - Donatalie, Chaos1cent, Jtanddolly, and LJCollins! :worship::worship::worship:

I took them to kinkos and had them cut as well as bound. It saved A TON of time! I ended up having to split off the character meal pages, as it would have been a novel for my DD's to carry around. So instead of 4 I ended up with 6!

I love how they turned out, and now I'll have to hide them since my 4yr old DD has already flipped through them 5 times today...:rotfl:

huh, so kinkos didn't hassle you about binding the Disney printed pages??!??

DSoltes7

Nope. It's only the printing that they have license issues with. I took in my cardstock pages with 2 prints per page and they cut them down (I only needed 2 cuts) and then bound them. No issues at all...other than my slightly paranoid state and giving my "babies" over to them...lol :rotfl2:

I think it depends on the perosn behind the counter. I took my autograph book, disney journal and they never once gave me a hassle. They even printed the pages for me. :)

The cover is cardstock, the very front and back is the cover provided by kinkos. It's a clear cover and black back. I believe that they can bind any weight cardstock and paper up to a certain thickness. Are you looking at using other materials?

Love the cake in your profile pic btw...adorable adorable adorable!!!

I need HELP, please. We are doing these for the first time. My first question is how to make them print as 5x7. Or if you've got any suggestions on how to get started.

I LOVE your books. They are just what we are wanting. I've just discovered this section of the board and now need to do the research on how to make the books. If you have ANY suggestions, that'd be great.

Thanks, Vicki

oh, my email is cvrapclark@knology.net if you can send me the info.

Yep no problem, the email is on it's way. Feel free to ask any more question that you need to. The cards I did were 4x6 image size, but the total page was about 5 1/2 by 6 1/2.

Okay. I'm making some progress. The only thing I had a problem was was getting two on a page with a large enough space in between.

Do you think it'd be easier to just put one on a page. I'm heading out to buy the cardstock now, hope it's not too much!!!

DSoltes7
09-07-2009, 11:29 AM
How large did you want the album (total size) to be? Are you sizing the actual image to 5x7 or 4x6?

Dawn

cvrapclark
09-07-2009, 01:37 PM
Sorry. I ran to Michaels.

I had used some of your templates and then tried to do my own. They are the 4x6.

But I was thinking I might like the 5x7. How do you resize to do that? Then I'm sure I could only get one per page. The cardstock was 3.99 for 50 pages so I don't think that's too bad.

Can you help me resize them to 5 x 7 with an inch at top for binding? does that make sense?

Thanks, Vicki

DSoltes7
09-07-2009, 01:48 PM
You can definitely do 5x7 but you'll only be able to get 1 image per page b/c of the margins. Even if you reduce the top margin to .75, it puts the images too close together at the bottoms.

So I guess the choice is 5x7 and more cardstock, or 4x6 and a smaller pic.

Good Luck~!

If you want to get a 1" margin at the top of each page for binding, you can still put the pictures into word and get two images per page. The trick is to set your top and bottom margins for 1". Put the first image at the top of the page, put in one space, and add the second image on the page. Now INVERT THE BOTTOM IMAGE. The upside down bottom image now has 1" of space for binding from the bottom margin. Cool, huh? And it saves all that extra card stock! :goodvibes

Thanks. But I really am clueless on this Word stuff. How do I put a 1 inch margin. Can someone please tell me step by step? I have Word 2007.

Do I go to page layout? I've been playing and can't figure it out.

The inverting sounds like a good idea. If I can get the margins right, I'll try that.

Hi everyone - great autograph books. I am getting ready to print and then bind mine this week. You mention "inverting the bottom image" - how do you do this in Word? Just don't think I have ever done this.

Thanks! kristina

cvrapclark
09-07-2009, 02:10 PM
Oh, I see where the margins are that you make 1 inch at top and bottom.

I guess my first question is how do I make them 5x7? Where in Word do I go and what do I put?

Sorry!!

DSoltes7
09-07-2009, 02:27 PM
You can rotate the image by selecting it on the toolbar, you can go under help if you don't have the button on the toolbar.

As far as margins, when you try to resize the image to 5x7, even if you rotate the bottom image you won't be able to get 2 per page, because your image is 5 inches plus an inch at the top. Don't forget about the margin at the bottom of your image. In order to get 2 5x7's per page, you would literally have the two images touching at their bottoms (with a rotated bottom card).

DSoltes7
09-07-2009, 02:32 PM
Ok so I played with Word and you can get 2 4.65x7 on a page if you reduce the margins at the top and bottom to .75 instead of 1. This will give you a VERY small amount of space at the bottom of each image, maybe 1/8 or 1/16 of an inch, but it will work.

As far as resizing the image, right click on the image and select "format picture". Newer versions of word have an "size" selction above "format picture" when you right click. It depends on your version...

Hope that helped.

Dawn

If you want the file with the 2 5x7's I can send it to you. I saved it just in case.

:thumbsup2

cvrapclark
09-07-2009, 02:33 PM
Okay. I'm fine with one per page.

Do you think it's a good idea to do the 5x7? Is it going to distort the picture any? I was thinking I may have read something about that somewhere. My brain is fried from studying this.:rotfl2:

Now I did find where you can edit the pic but it won't let me do 5 x 7. When I change the width, it changes the height. does that make sense?

Thanks for all your advice!!

cvrapclark
09-07-2009, 02:35 PM
I think we're typing at the same time!! I would love the file with the 5 x 7.

Then if you send me that, can't I just copy it and change the pics? not sure. Let me know if I can do that.

09-07-2009, 02:36 PM
I am making my images as 4x6, with a 1/2'' margin on the sides and a 1" margin on the top (making a 5x7 overall image - margins are white). You can right click the image (in Microsoft Word) and select the "size" option. This will allow you to alter the size of the image and also to rotate it 180 degrees. Just be sure to keep the lock ratio box checked, or else the characters all start to look like they need to go on a diet! :rotfl: Also, be sure that all of your images are centered on the page.

DSoltes7
09-07-2009, 02:41 PM
Are you trying to get the picture to be 5x7 or just the actual card?

My images were 4x6 but with the margins, they ended up being 5 1/2x 6 1/2.

As far as 5x7, it's just preference. Remember the larger the image size, the larger the book. Will you have a lot of pages? I didn't want my DD's carrying anything too bulky in their packs.

Once you know what pictures that you want, you can copy and paste them in to the template. The template already has the margins set up on it, in order to make it easier to just cut and paste the images. Make sure when you go into the photobucket account or shared file you click on the image to it's full size, then right click and "copy" the image. Then you go in to word and "paste" the image in to the template. Resize the image to 4x6 and voila!! You'll see on the template that I have the bottom image reversed or upside down. This makes it easier when you go to cut the page. You'll only have to do one cut through the center of the page horizontally and then another 2 inches off the right side. Then you have 2 stacks of cards exactly the same size!

I only did 1 per page. I did almost all the characters and I think they were like 70 pages. I have 2 DD's 7 and 4 and they are ok sizes, not too big. If you look in the first post, all the pages look the same, one per page, with nothing on the back. I'm going to scrap one of the books later so I didnt want anything on the back of the autograph card.

Dawn, your books are awesome! Exactly what I want to make for my kids!:)

Is it possible for you to email me your 4x6 template also?...
pinka_winka06@yahoo.com. Thank You!!

SO once I get the template do I just copy and save the pics I want onto the template? I am kind of clueless so sorry if this sounds silly asking, lol. I was at the craft store yesterday and bought one of those sketch books...it's big enough that i can slice each sheet in half so I can make 1 book each for both my kids. Should I cut the pages just a little bigger than 4x6 since the templates are 4x6? How much bigger?

Thanks again for emailing me and for posting your pics!!

It's nice to see I am not the only one w/ more than 2 autograph books. We are only up to 4 though. I think I would have freaked if I had had to do more. You have a ton of patience.

Try going over to the thread "How to make an autograph book." Since it has been so long since the last post, I don't know if u will get the templates & I wouldn't want you waiting too long. There are instruction, links to DISigners auto cards, & you can get help if needed from Music Mouse.
