Have many of you hired the strollers?

Just debating if to take our own one for DS (20mths) or hire one at the parks?
How much do they cost to hire?
Are they quite big and bulky?

I have read before on here that people have experienced theft of their stollers while they have been on rides (i cant believe this happens:sad1:).
But i suppose it can happen with the hired strollers aswell? people could just easily take them while your on a ride.

would i best to take my own chain and lock and lock it to a barrier or something? or is that going a bit to far? should i more trusting?! im sure if that was to happen they would happily give me another one free of charge you think?.

I have always taken my own and apart never had any problems *touch wood*. I think hired strollers are more likely to be stolen then normal ones.

Imo it's more likely to happen with a rented one as they all look the same as each other.

The best way of keeping your buggy as safe as possible is to take a cheap one, put something on it that stands out so it's obvious that it's your rather than someone else's buggy and to take anything of any value or importance on to the ride with you instead of leaving it on your buggy.

We haven't had any problems so far **touch wood** however we have seen a few cases of mistaken identity where two people have had the same (or very similar) buggy.

We are going to DLRP at the end of Sep and will be taking our own lightweight stroller, for our 2.5 year old. I am planning to make it stand out and personalise it (tastefully!!), so if anyone stole it we could easily see that it was ours.

Firstly, it would stand out and we would have more chance of finding it, but more importantly, if you put your initials somewhere out of view on the stroller, you could bring this to the attention of cast members/security, if you had to prove it was yours.

Alternatively, you could take a picture of it with your digital camera before your trip, and then you have more proof.

To go one further, if it has anything removable, like a wheel - this would really ensure it wasn't stolen!!!

Ideally, it would be nice to think that you would not have to worry about this,
but not everybody in this world is honest, even DLRP guests!! The expense of the stroller being stolen is secondary to the inconvenience factor of not having it for the duration of the holiday.

Saying all of this though, on a more positive note, reading through the forums tells me that it isn't a very common occurence and isn't something that the DLRP management see as a 'big' issue.

Ljay possibly another thing to consider for you is that the rented strollers at DLRP don't recline, so your little one might not be that comfy having a snooze in it.

Thank you all for your replies:)

I never thought about taking a picture before hand and making it stand out for me to notice if anything did happen.

i think i will take a lighter stroller something that is easy to fold away.

Im glad you mentioned that Elaine:thumbsup2 knowing that i will def take my own now, has ds does like to have naps during the day, i dont want a grumpy boy around the parks and he is if he doesnt get his naps:).

Right i better go stoller hunting online now for a cheap one that reclines aswell:love:

we're off next week and I've just managed to get a Maclaren Techno XT for £10 on eBay! it doesn't have a hood but is in great condition so if it comes home with us (I'm a bit paranoid about this too!) then £40 would get us a new hood and a very decent buggy.

Hope you find something suitable.

Tesco were doing value ones for £5 about a month ago! I bought one for DS when we went as he didn't have one since he stopped using it about a year ago (I'm a bit mean). It was a godsend and I'm so glad we decided to take one as he wouldn't have managed all the walking in the heat, and DD (5) even swapped and got in for a bit when it all got a bit much :rotfl:. For £5 it was a bargin, cheaper than renting one and if it went missing it would have been really annoying but not a financal disaster. Also who wants to steal the £5 pushchair when it is amoungst all the really expensive ones people seem to take?
I would warn against storing stuff on pushchairs though as we had DS cowboy hat and DD Jasmine tiara stolen frm the back of ours while it was next to us but we were distracted by the parade.:sad2:

The other issue with hiring is you have to rehire every day - you can't keep it for your stay. So queuing etc to take and return every day - not something I'd want to do.

My DD1 is almost 4.5 yrs and hasn't been in a pushchair for a good while now. Last year we didn't take a pushchair for her and she was v tired - she spent a lot of time on my DH's shoulders but it wasn't ideal. This time my Mum got a second hand one from someone at work (paid £5!). It was lightweight and just what we needed really. It was a godsend this time and I found taking 2 singles much easier than a double (we have a 15 mth old girl too who was in our 'good' lightweight pushchair).

We didn't have any probs with anything being taken off the pushchair - I did leave my baby bag on a few times but it just had baby items in - nothing valuable. Having said that, you think it doesn't happen but clearly it does.

I read a thread ages ago on here about pick pockets 'working' the parks quite regularly (it was from someone who had, had a wallet or something stolen and they'd had to go and report it to Police who told them this) - probably rich/easy pickings for them

Wow what a bargin! i will keep a good look out, ive got a few mths till we go.
sorry to hear your DD and DS things went missing:sad2: its very sad that it happens.

I was going to ask that question, if you could pay up front for the duration. i wouldnt be to keen on queuing twice aday everyday.

I have decided to def take my own, due to someone saying that the hire ones to recline, i def need a reclining one for ds, he needs his comfy naps:)

I may have that wrong then - you may be able to keep for duration but I never saw any in the hotel or anything so I'd guessed you handed back each day?? Maybe someone can confirm.

I would think in busy periods though the queue would be long so for me, it's one less queue to think about if you take your own :thumbsup2:lmao:

You also have to pay a deposit if you want to take the buggy out of the park, i think its like 150 euros but it is refundable.
