My DH and I are going on vacation, finally. We have a rental car through Alamo which is fully paid for already through our travel agent. I know we probably have to make a cash deposit (not gonna happen) or give them a credit card to get the car. Do we have to have some amount available on the card? Do they run the card? Or just take it and the number just in case? Do they put a hold of a certain amount on the card?
Thanks for your help!!

best thing would be to ask your travel agent to call Alamo since she booked it for you...

however, i do think they put in an authorization hold for the $$ amount that the reservation would be in most cases....

seems to me with past experience with alamo ....they actually process the fee when you pick the car up which is a "pain" if you are canadian and going to pay cash at the end of the reservation....since we lose both ways on the exchange fee.....
we have since gotten a USD crecit card so we can get the best exchange rates ourselves for our US purchases....

either way.....get the travel agent to do some "leg work" for you

have a good holiday....sounds like you need it......with your "finally" end to your first sentence

We've already pre-paid the car. So really the issue is will they put a hold on the credit card for some amount above and beyond what's already paid for?
We will give the TA a call tomorrow, or Alamo.
Thanks a bunch for the advice...and yes, we are in great need of a vacation. I can hardly wait!!:bounce: :bounce: ;)

No, Alamo will not hold any other amount on your card. They will zip the card for any taxes not paid on the ressie, but, that is it.

Okay so what if your car isn't prepaid? I am planning to book thru national, how much will they hold on my card? I only have one card and the limit is not really that high at all.

They will hold the price of the rental, taxes, etc. They will then charge you at the end of the rental for the actual cost. Unlike Dollar, they do not add an extra amount. So, if the rental is 200.00, that is what they will put on hold.
