View Full Version : Where Would You Like To See New DVC Resorts?

Just in case DVC reads these boards, I thought we might try to plant some ideas in their heads.
Perhaps at another Disney Resort Hotel? How about Disneyland? Maybe another off-site DVC? If so, what city?

I vote for The Poly, and would purchase a minimum of 500 points instantly!

What are your thoughts?

I'm all for having a DVC property on the west coast, mostly because I'm from California and we could save on air fare. That said, we've had this type of thread in the past, and I haven't seen any movement from Disney regarding building on the west coast, but we can always be hopeful. :)

Castaway Cay would get my vote. What a spot that would be for a DVC!

Animal Kingdom...my wife and I would buy in a second.
The only thing I really miss about using DVC is waking up in the morning to animals outside my balcony.

I have pushed on a couple threads for "Polynesian Villas". There is some space available between Poly and GF. Without sending in surveyors it's hard to say whether it's adequate or not. But given how fast Poly Villas would sell, I would think they would make every effort, including (if necessary) relocating the Wedding Pavilion and/or the GF Health Club, and filling in a small portion of the lake. And I'm not convinced these steps would be necessary. A big issue is how close the monorail is to the lake, but remember the monorail is pretty close to the lake everywhere, including at the current Poly and GF!

The "Polynesian Villas" would definitly be my vote.

I think if Disney wanted to, they could MAKE room. If they changed the way that Seven Seas Lagoon Dr. entered by the raceway, and built on the current parking lot by the TTC and I believe its the Tahiti bld. Moved some other things around, etc.,etc.,...they have 42 miles of FLA. to work with. Minus whats already built.

1. Disneyland
2. AKL, but I think the construction would bother the animals and won't happen

In Route of the monorail would be a big +.

Southern Texas would be just a days drive for me.
The gulf coast, near or at Destin, Florida is also a days drive and a wonderful beach.
Disney land wold be nice also.
I like the Poly theme.
Animal Kingdom would also get my points.
Add the monorail to any of the above choices and I am diffinately buying more points. Especially if its a monorail from Texas or Destin to Magic Kingdom. But aimagine the maintenence fees for the monorail from Texas to Florida.

I have never been to Castaway (or southen Texas) it looks beautiful on the cruise line video.

I better stop here or I will go on all night.

Castaway Cay would get my vote. What a spot that would be for a DVC! This was actually discussed quite some time ago in another thread. While on the surface this would seem neat, it is not practical for the following reasons:

Transportation to and from the island.
Electricity, only available by generators. Air Conditioning would not be practical, or very expensive at least.
Insects are bad at night time
Getting supplies to the island and refuge disposal becomes expensive.
After a couple of days, the novelty of the island would wear off. Aside from swimming at the beach, or riding a bicycle around, there wouldn't be much else to do. Or anywhere else to go

In fact, any DVC resort outside of the Disney theme park areas would be in competition with all the other numerous resorts around the world. Just look at the time it has taken selling VB and HH.

DVC works at WDW, and in my opinion would probably work at DL also. Anywhere else is a big financial gamble.

Tinkerbell,

I think water access would be important for a Polynesian Villas. There is at least 1/4 mile of unused beachfront between Poly and GF, which should be enough for a couple or three lagoon view longhouses. I'm thinking maybe 200 units like VWL. If they can fit more in, great.

beachfront between Poly and GF

Hey guys, I'm building my GF DVC on that property. ;)

I think offsite DVCs are dead for the foreseeable future but if we're dreaming, I'd love to see one on the Jersey Shore, NYC or Las Vegas. I don't think they'll ever build near a casino but it would be nice....maybe they could one day negotiate a Concierge Collection deal with a casino hotel. A Disneyland DVC also doesn't seem unreasonable....maybe that will happen.

PamOKW- Wasn't it Werner Weiss who had the big report about Disney owning a very large parcel of land 20 min. S. of Disneyland, and then sold it off to Marriot or some other hotel timeshare. That would have been a great place for a Disneyland DVC.

Yes, we were all expecting the Newport, CA DVC. They also presented plans to build one in Times Square. I thought that might have happened when Disney got into the theater business and helped with the restoration of the area. The dropping of these two plans and the decision not to build out Vero seem to indicate that expansion outside of Disney-owned property isn't going to happen any time soon. Disneyland and Disney Paris seem like to only two remote possibilities for new DVC's not at WDW.

At Disneyland in California, the problem is a lack of room. If Disney had wanted to build a DVC resort there, I think that it would have been planned as part of the recent transformation of "Disneyland" into the "Disneyland Resort," including the new theme park, Downtown Disney, and Grand Californian Resort hotel. But I'll grant you that a DVC resort at Disneyland remains a possibility.

At Disneyland Paris, an on-site timeshare resort is being built by Marriott, not Disney. And announcement of this project starts at http://www.vacationclub.com/ and continues with a nice drawing and a lot more information on another page. It looks great. According to the article, "Creating the atmosphere of the French countryside with fabrics and artwork accenting garden prints of Impressionist painters, each villa will offer a golf course view along with a master suite featuring a soaking tub and two vanities, fully-equipped kitchen and dining area, living room with fireplace, washer/dryer and patio." I don't think we'll ever see DVC at Disneyland Paris.

I heard (via rumor) from a Disney Store cast member that Disney had been trying to get the contract for the new timeshare property going in on the grounds of Big Cedar Lodge in the Branson area (Ridgedale, MO). Supposedly Big Cedar went to its regulars and asked what they thought of Disney (and other companies) coming in as part of it.

Evidently the folks there didn't want what Disney could bring with it (fanatics like us?) and they steered away from Disney and gave it to some other company.

Now THAT would have been a fun resort!

As for other locations, I would LOVE to see more off-site stuff. HH is awesome (and I think any slowness--not sure if that's a word--selling there is probably in part because people have NO CLUE how awesome that place is unless they've been there).

I would vote for Disney building its own DVC place in the Branson area...supposedly it is the "number 1 drive-to vacation spot in the country" and atleast one timeshare resort in that area uses the fact that Disney 0wns a chunk of land in that area as a selling point for them!

And timeshare salespeople always tell the truth! ;)

I've heard the Branson rumor for years. I think it's safe to say that if Disney had wanted to build a DVC resort on the land that they've supposedly owned for the last ten years, they would have done so by now. Alas, if the Branson rumor was based on truth, it only reinforces that Disney has given up on off-site DVC resorts.

I would be in favor of AKL and Poly, but that might make it too congested between the two resorts. They are Deluxe and people pay a lot of money, so jamming in a DVC resort may not be practical or fair. But then again I love Poly. I think a ski resort would be nice. I know you can use points for some trips, but how about one that requires less than 2 years of points.

Caskbill:

What you describe is what thousands of people do when they flock to Caribbean Islands. Golf, tennis, water sports, etc.... I have heard about the bugs at Castaway Cay at night, but I would bet that someone told them that the bugs were terrible around some swamp land in Orlando quite a few years ago.

If I were to have my wish, I still would go for DVC at Castaway Cay. All it is is a wish. I didn't say I could figure out all of the rest of it.;)

DVC needs a ski resort. We have plenty of sun and warm, how about some snow and cold. I know many of you already have lots of that in the winter, but for us southern folks we would like some snow.

I too vote for AKL. Someone on page one said they missed waking up to the animals with DVC. Obviously they don't stay at OKW, because we always have lots of little critters to watch there. We have had great fun with the bunnies, birds, squirels and others we see there every trip!

I would vote for a new deluxe resort between the TTC and Comp which would be on the Monorail.

I believe that in the original 5-year plan for WDW when they built the MK, Disney planned a resort of that area with a Venice theme.

If you look on the satellite map, it sure looks like there is space available.

That would work for me!

Wow it sure does! Maybe that's where we should build Poly Villas. Then we wouldn't have to tear down the Wedding Pavilion.

DH and I were just looking at this area( between cont. and Poly) in May while riding the monorail. I thought it looked like enough space for a resort to me. This would be my top choice for sure. Erin

Our dream location for the DVC would be at the Beach Club. Oops, too late, we already bought that!

Okay, then we have to add our voices to the chorus calling for the Poly Villas. And I think Caverill even found the best spot for it! As long as it's close enough to still enjoy the amenities of the Poly itself.

On the off chance that something would be built outside of WDW, we'd vote for a DL resort, or a REAL polynesian resort in Hawaii.

One final idea: how many points do you suppose they'd ask to get on the International Space Station??

Disnut Dave... You took the words out of my mouth. Quite a few years ago when I first looked at DVC, Boardwalk was being sold. My husband and I left the DVC office and went and stood on the boardwalk. We were both leaning on the railing of the boardwalk looking accross the lake and I told my husband "I am just not sure, but if they ever build a DVC there (I was pointing to the Beach Club), I will be the first in line". So my dream DVC has been built.

If I had to choose another location I guess I would have to say Maui.

I believe that in the original 5-year plan for WDW when they built the MK, Disney planned a resort of that area with a Venice theme.

A few years ago, a Disney bus driver told us that the resort planned for that area could not be built. He said the land there was too unstable and prone to significant sinking... initial digging and installation of some large posts showed this and they deemed it unsuitable. This was prior to WL opening... and a reason for the choice of that waterfront location for a deluxe hotel rather than another on the monorail. If what he said was true, it would explain why Disney has left this prime land undeveloped.

When WDW was first concieved, there were supposed to be 5 resorts at the Seven Seas lagon. They were the Contemorary,Polynesian, Asian, Persian, and Venetian. The GF is now where the Asian was supposed to be. The rest of the ground supposedly was not suitable.

I know this is my same "boring" vote, but I vote for Disneyland. I understand all of the problems, but as someone once said..."...if your heart is in your dream, no request is too extreme.." We loved our one trip to DL & didn't mind using pts. to stay at GC. But DVC at DL would just be the best!

Living here on the west coast, I vote for Disneyland. I wouldn't consider it an "off-site" location because it would still appeal to us Disney fanatics! ;)
But I also agree with those who have suggested on the monorail loop and AKL.

On site I'm waiting for Eagle Pines if it has the unit size of OKW. Poly and AKL would be nice but I'm sure they will have the smaller units.

Offsite I'm waiting for those old rumors of Branson, MO - total family destination and live entertainment capital of the world.

Tinkrbell

I'll bet the question isn't "If" but "When" they will build the Polynesian Villas. Disney will probably use this as their trump card, offering it at the 25-20 year out mark at about $100+/pt. Disney knows its the most requested, returned stay hotel on property and people have a lot of "magic memories" there. Therefore making it well worth the investment in the building process. JMHO.
