Happy September, TEAM!!!!

Here we are training into September. Kids are back in school. Labor Day signals the end of summer. Autumn and fall Harvest begins, and it's all just heating up for us as we move into our fall training!!

844.21 miles and 246:54 hours

Let's get those numbers in Guys!

Getting an early start aren't we Connie? I guess I will really have to get to the totals today!

Hey Lynn

Yup, it's an early start, but I am expecting company and I didn't know if I could get started tomorrow. Besides, I have to work hard to get the catchy phrases going before someone else uses 'em! :rotfl:

Where did August go....

Grand Baby is home and sleeping in the swing Kimmer gave him, dressed in an outfit from Terry and snuggling with a bear from Vicky. Life is good. Oh and he is wrapped in a blanket from Lynn.

Connie, I had 73 miles for last month, sorry, baby watch cut into training. I had 36 hours of exercise though.

This morning was 5 miles on the hills, total time 1:01:00, for a 12:12 pace. Very comfortable in the cool morning air. Here in Southern Kentucky we have no industry and few people so our air quality is excellent.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Hi TEAM!

Looking forward to the softer feel of fall- it is supposed to be the best season to train in Michigan but...it's the weather :rolleyes1

Rest Day :cloud9:

Congratulations Dave & Erica! PTL little Aiden is doing better. These little ones are a joy and truly a Blessing. :littleangel:

I took my little Hagen to the pediatrician this morning-they had to do a blood draw. It was a horrid experience for both of us! He was crying and said Grandma I hold you...:sad1:

Scott, I agree where did August go.
Connie, Some of the kids have been back at school for a while ;-)

Today was my first day with sixth grade and it wasn't near as aweful as anticipated.

I also did 30 minutes on the elliptical and 15 minutes of strength training.

Best,
Jennifer

Hello everyone! Yes indeed - where did August go? It was quite cool this morning. I guess that means I'd better go and dig up my running gloves and hat  I'm planning to head out tomorrow morning for a 4 miler but think I'll wear a LS shirt.

I looked into switching our flights so we could stay an extra day or two for the RFTT but the flights alone would have cost us $400 pp to stay until Monday :scared1: I'll try and drop by if there are any meets happening on the Friday.

Margie - Awww! for Hagen. Needles are never fun. Btw, can I bring you with me the next time I have to go to the doctor? I still don't like needles...

Jennifer - Glad to hear the first day went well! It must be tough having to switch so suddenly - did you have to create a new curriculum or did you get some notes from the previous teacher?

Connie - Cool title for September! Will PM you my hours and miles when I get home.

Denise - Any updates on Miranda?

Dave - Glad to hear Aiden is home from the hospital!

Sue - Getting close to Scotiabank :cutie: How's the training coming along?

Have a great evening everyone! :wave2:

Good morning Everyone!

Our company postponed, but I have a clean house and the new thread is working!! How can you beat that? :laundy:

Welcome home, Aiden!!! party:

Jennifer - My grandkids have been in school for 3 weeks. Somehow, without the smell of new crayons in the house, it just doesn't seem real until Labor Day! :lmao: I used to LOVE 6th grade. I hope you do too! They are fascinating creatures who turn from children to adolescent right in front of you! :teacher:

Margie - Do you think little Hagen will be a doctor when he grows up? :sad2:Poor baby.

Vicky - You did great on your hours. Thanks for liking the title of our new thread! :upsidedow

Weights and a three miles walk for me today. Yippeeee!

See ya - Connie :wave2:

Good Morning Team!

Happy September!!! Sept-Oct is my favorite time of the year!

Jennifer - glad to hear that you enjoyed the first day with the 6th graders - do you think you might stay there the rest of the year?

Connie - you always come up with good names for our thread!

Vicki - sorry that you could not change your flights for RFTT.

Dave - glad that Aiden got to come home!

The PT was really happy with the progress with my knee - he even started some light weight training - that was not supposed to start for 2 more weeks. Of course, he might not be as happy with me next week after 4 days of minimal exercises and probably not adequate icing! Today I will go to the gym for the first time and get some biking in, and use some of the machines for some of the leg exercises I have to do.

Have a great day all!

Good Morning Team!

Sunny with a little chill in the air this morning.

Went to spin on Sat. 15 miler on Sun. & yoga last night with a short recovery run tonight. 20 miler on the schedule for this weekend.

Vicky, This is how I feel about Scotia.:sick::confused:I'll survive but it won't be pretty. I've put in a lot of mileage just not a lot of long distance mileage. How about you?

Lynn, Enjoy your gym memebership. Continues PD for your knee.

Connie, Great thread title.

Not much else to report. Getting DD ready for back to school next week. The summer (if you can call it that) just flew by.

Make it a great day everyone.....Sue

Ok gang hopefully I'm back on track. The women have the baby well in hand and now I can concentrate on getting in some miles. I had a good 5 yesterday and another 5 today. Tomorrow is my walker group day so that will be an 8 miler. Looking at getting in a good 28 mile week.

I have a good race on Labor Day, one of the most competitive of the year.

Glad everyone is doing good.

Connie, I understand but I have been counting down to Labor Day since the second week of school.

Lynn , The plan is for me to stay there the rest if the year...but, there's a rumor that they're going to move a sixth grade teacher to Kindergarten.

Yesterday wasn't as good as the first. I have one class that just is really trying and the anticipation of it is crazy.

My doctor finally put me on something for my insomnia and I got 8 hours of sleep for the first time in two and a half weeks.

As far as running. Taper madness is kicking and I feel heavy and slow. Yesterday I did 6 miles in 52 minutes.

Best,
Jennifer

OK, I am fessing up right now......I don't have my totals.....I keep forgetting to log them.

I promise to my teamates....I will have September totals!!!!!!!!!

Small victory for me, DH and I went out for our usual 5K loop around the subdivision and we where chatting about marathon weekend and we knocked 5 mins of our time....couldn't believe it.

Just finished pilatas-sculpt or sculpt - pilates either or and it was really tough....my core won't be too happy with me tomorrow but thats ok. That just means I did it right:thumbsup2

Dave so happy to see Aiden is home, got Erica's photo. What a little angel. I think he is going to grow up to be just as awesome as his grandpa and grandma!!!!

Have a super Wednesday all!!!

Good morning!

Jennifer - I hope you have the most fantastic, busy, restful, happy Labor Day Ever! Get some sleep, girlfriend! Don't let the moving you around to different grades effect you. Look at all the experience you are getting! I know that some classes are more difficult than others, been there, done that. Find the primary troublemakers/troublemaker and keep that person engaged at all times by asking him/her questions.

Kim - Trying using the free calender at Active.com. They have all kinds of free tools including reports of your activity, shoe tracker, pace calculator and so much more. It just takes a couple of minutes to input it and you have all the info you need at your fingertips...literally at your fingertips!

Margie - The countdown has begun! 13 sleeps!

Vicki - Yikes on those flights!

Southwest has their flights and prices out for January, now. Unfortunately, they have cancelled 92 routes! It would have taken us 8 hours travel time and 2 stops and a plane change to get to Orlando! We are flying American, one plane change and 5 hours travel time. -- All the airlines were supposed to make a repair on the big planes, Southwest didn't bother making them over the last 3 years. The exhaust from the engines were messing with the flaps...anyway, those planes are all grounded now, until the repairs can be made. It is just silly for me to fly west to Las Vegas and making a stop between, so that I can change plans and fly east to Orlando, with a stop in-between!

Today is a cross training day.

See ya! :wave2: Connie

Lynn G

Good Morning Team!

Jennifer - if you want to stay with 6th grade - then I hope you get to stay there, back to kindergarten would be back where you started, wouldn't it? Is all that moving around normal or do you think it will settle down?

Dave - glad to hear that you are getting back into a routine!

Kim - do we need to ask you every day if you wrote down your workout times and miles? I keep ours in a notebook that lives on the kitchen table, so I see it daily and therefore reminded to log each workout.

Sue - thanks for the PD!

I had a good bike ride at the gym yesterday - then used some of the machine, at minimum weights. Only on one was the minimum weight too heavy for me, I will just have to do leg extentions with ankle weights I guess. I have a doctors appt this morning to take out the stitches - it is a few days early - they wanted to take them out on Friday, but I won't be here - so will have to see if they come out today, or do not come out until next week.

Have a great day everyone!

Good Morning Team!

OK where is everyone?

Got my stiches out yesterday - was told not to go overboard on bending the knee yesterday, so I skipped the bike at the gym and just did my assigned exercises. Today is PT.

Have a great Labor Day Weekend everyone, safe travels to all who are traveling.

Hi everyone! Well I survived my dental work yesterday afternoon. I had a little bit of tissue removed from my mouth by laser and it went better than I expected. I hardly felt the freezing needles which always make me nervous. Today, it's a little hard to chew or smile but definitely not as bad as I thought it would be.

Lynn - Good luck at the PT today! Sounds like your knee is healing nicely. Will the surgery leave a big scar?

Kim - WTG on the 5K! Five minutes is quite a bit of time :) For tracking miles and minutes, I use a piece of software called Sports Tracks. It's free to download and if you have a Garmin, it can download that data as well.

Connie - Glad you were able to get a direct flight! DF has an uncle who will take those really long connecting flights so he can save a few dollars (and it literally will be a few dollars). But like you, I don't always think they're worth it. Especially in the winter.

Jennifer - Take care! Is the insomnia stress related?

Dave - How did your 8 miler go?

Have a great day everyone :wave2:

Steffwalks
09-03-2009, 10:30 AM
Good morning! I'm here!!!

Lynn - Go easy on that new tissue. Don't stress it too much too soon! Getting the stitches out is always a momentous event!

Vickie - Your uncle is nuts! Okay, I didn't really mean that. I meant...that's crazy! The longer flights would have cost me more in airline miles and less in dollars. But here's the crazy thing....I used miles and got on American. If I had used SW and flown around the world, it would have cost 20,000 points more! Those 20,000 points are worth $160 in cash directly back to me. If we manage to check only one bag, I will have made $140. See, isn't that crazy??

My apologies to everyone. I am sure you aren't that interested in my travel plans!!! :rotfl:

Spoke to Margie this morning! Just 12 sleeps and I will be at her house.

Jennifer - hope they find the cure for your insomenia. That is so hard on the body & mind to not get enough rest. :flower3:

Connie Thanks! The teachers need hese breaks as much as the kids.

Lynn, Yes, after about 5 other moves that would be back where I started

Margie and Vicky, I know the insomnia is stress related (as does my doctor), the problem is the source of the stress can't be eliminated.

I forgot to post back on Wednesday that I did a 30 minute tempo. Got in 3.85 miles in that time.
Today will be my last run before the race on Sunday.
Oh and I got my belly button pierced on Tuesday.

Best,
Jennifer

Thanks all I am really trying to remember to write it all down. I am getting the milage and hours in for my training schedule but the other stuff I keep forgetting......Is that the beginning of oldtimers???:confused3

I agree, I will pay more to fly anywhere direct. I hate to fly period and the take off is the worst for me so the more ups I can avoid the better. I will have my first lay over flight when I cruise Alaska next year. The only direct flight I could get was more then the cruise...so I am sucking it up just this once....lol fortunatley I have a ton of direct flight options to the happiest place on earth:thumbsup2

Good Morning Team!

We are sitting at the Denver airport waiting for our flight.

Vicki - No big scar, just 2 small ones under my knee.

Jennifer - Good luck on your race on Sunday.

PT went well yesterday, said I now needed to work on my walking - trying to walk correctly, I guess my bones are in a funny possition, on both my legs, which puts more stress on my knees. So, I have to concentrate on keeping my knee straight - and extending leg leg more, and not limping. It is hard to constantly think about walking while walking!

Have a great day all!

Steffwalks

Good morning Team,

Lynn - It is hard to change the way you walk. I had to learn to walk all over again when I put orthotics in my shoes! You and Scott have a great time!

Vicki - How are you feeling today? I hate dental work and try not to address it in any way! I don't even like taking someone for them to have dental work! I feel like an accomplice to the torturer!

Kim, I forgot to mention ..if you use the calender at Active.com to record your training, it will even send you a daily email reminder!!! It doesn't get any easier than that.

Jennifer - You needed another hole in your middle?? :rolleyes1 I thought about one of those for about 5 seconds and then realized at my age, no one would see it, even if I actually wore a belly shirt! :rolleyes1

I did my cross training this morning! Yea, me! Pilates is better than a dental visit...some!

See ya - Connie

Well we were going to do the 5K along with the Goofy but when we tried to register today it was closed. With the baby expences we didn't have the funds till his morning, and we missed it. We were going to do it so Erica could get her tattoo with the Goofy, Donald, Mickey and Dopey.:sad2:

I had a good 5 miler this morning, it was threatening rain but never rained. I tripped and thought for a bit that I had pulled my hamstring. It seems to be ok, but scared me.:scared1:

Hey everyone! Just stopping in to wish everyone a happy and safe long weekend!

Connie - No nuts is a pretty accurate description. He's only of those people who loooooves complaining so give him a long connecting flight with uncomfortable seat, multiple delays, loud passengers etc. and he's all set :) If he had a direct flight, he wouldn't have much to say

My cheek is doing better. I'm forcing myself to look at it to make sure it's healing okay. Honestly, it just looks like a burn mark and it's about the size of a cigarette but it still makes me feel icky. I'll probably be able to eat hot foods in a day or two.

Sue - No plans this long weekend - just basic R&R. I'll probably still head to the gym on Monday even though I'm still thinking that one over :)

Margie - WTG on the mileage yesterday!

Jennifer - Cool! Was the piercing quick and painless or does it take a little longer?

Lynn/Scott - Safe travels!

Kim - I forgot to tell you that after you and Mike told us about the cruise at the Midsummer Night's race, we got a brochure in the mail for an Alaskan cruise. I asked DF to think about it - he seems interested mostly because it looks really scenic.

Dave - Hope you didn't bang yourself up too badly

Hi everyone! I was suppose to run a 10K race according to my training schedule but I was too cheap to sign up for one so I just ran around my neighbourhood. Like most weekends though, I got out late so I was running in a lot of sunshine and heat. Managed to finish in 1:05 but that was with a lot of walking and I think if I had gotten out earlier, I could have been a little faster.

Margie - The cheek is better! I had a tea today so it looks like hot foods are okay now. I'm going back to the dentist for a check up on Wednesday.

Sue - How was your 20 miler?

Set up my training on Active.com so will be able to easier keep track of my training.....thanks Connie!!!!!

Got a 10K in yesterday, felt pretty good, about 4 mins slower then we where aiming for but I was dealing with a shin splint again so had to slow it down for a K or 2 and stopped to stretch it out 2 or 3 times so I think that easier ate up the 4min so not going to beat myself up about it.

Hi everyone! Went to the gym this morning and worked out with a different trainer since my PT took the day off today. Did some ladder exercises - I think that's what they're called. Lots of hopping and jumping around on a "ladder" like grid on the ground. Nice change from the weight routine :)

I noticed I had a black toenail yesterday after I removed my pedicure. It doesn't hurt and I'm not sure where it came from but I guess I'll have to put the polish back on. Is there anyway to make it go away quickly or do I just have to wait for it to grow out?

Scott/Lynn - Safe travels! I saw your pic on Deb's blog :)

Connie - Enjoy your rest day!

Kim - I usually ask my PT to get rid of my shin splints. Not very pleasant though. Did you ice after your 10K?

Take care everyone!

Quick race report...
Hi everyone!
14.2 miles in 1 hr 52 minutes; 1st in age group (29 & under); 4th female overall

Slightly more detailed:
Started the race a little to fast and was pacing the first 10 miles at about 7:35 each. Was also the women's leader until mile 8 or 9. After that started hitting hills and the fast start hurt my ability to deal with them. Dropped from 2nd to 3rd somewhere around mile 11. At mile 13 was in 3rd overall, but could out kick at the finish.

Overall, I'm relatively happy. I knew I wasn't in my best shape, but I still managed decent. Now it's time to move on to the full and shoot for that BQ. I'm planning to meet with a coach soon because this is two races in a row where not being able to kick at the end has cost me.

Best,
Jennifer

Leaving this morning to go to my DD's in Indy. She is expecting her second baby (tomorrow is her due date) so I am going up to wait and to take care of my granddaughter while she is in the hospital. They have a TM so hopefully I'll be able to carve out some time to use it. Otherwise, my main form of exercise will be chasing after my granddaughter!

Have a great week everyone! I'll try to post when I have some news!

Good morning everyone! Back to work and school today - I thought there would be more people out and about but the trains were practically empty this morning. Go figure! Maybe some people were seeing their kids off to school.

Did my 5 miler this morning. I had to wake up at 5:45AM which was kind of pushing it anyway. Shouldn't the sun be out around that time? I think if I keep running in the morning through the fall and winter, I'll have to get a light of some kind.

Lots of runners and walkers out this morning. I usually see an older gentleman on my route but we go in opposite directions. The first time I saw him this morning, I said "Good morning!" ... the second time we passed, he said to me "Lookin' good!!". Made me smile all the way home :upsidedow

Jennifer - Congrats on your race! Fantastic time as always :)

Margie - That's a fun bike ride?! Plus you did a 6 miler on the same day! You are in great shape :worship:

Mary - Safe travels! Hope everything goes well with DD and your new granddaughter :)

Scott - Do you have any pictures of your new DL bling?

Have a great day everyone!

I can't believe I wrote up a whole report over the weekend and it's gone!!! I;m not sure if it's the server, my computer or what but I'll try again!

Princess Josie was born on Saturday night at 9:12 PM by c-section. Miranda worked hard for 2 days but it was just not meant to be. Josie came in at 7.8 lbs and 19 inches. A pretty princess for sure. She has already melted my heart and now let me introduce you to our newest Disney family member and hopefully we can get her into a walking program, at least Mom in a walking program and Josie in her stroller!

Hi TEAM!

Congratulations, Denise & Mark! Josie is Precious! :littleangel: PTL Mommy & Josie are doing good.

Vicky & Lynn– :thanks:Thank You but…I did the 6-miler on Sunday evening and the 28-mile bike ride on my Rest Day, Monday afternoon. I love to ride bike and the weather was just too nice not to do it. Too soon there will be no out door cycling here. :upsidedow

Lynn- how is your knee? :flower3:

The temperature in Michigan is great at 68 degrees- but the humidity is 90% and the dew point is 62% … Cloudy with sprinkles, it feels like you are breathing water-Nasty!

I did get in my easy 3.25-mile walk this morning. I have to report to Connie so it keeps me moving even when I don’t wan-ta ::yes::

First post-race run today. 6.2 miles (10k) in 54 minutes. Not bad for 48 hours of recovery.
I'm meeting with a coach next Wednesday and I'll let you know how that goes.

Good Luck Kim!

The knee is better, the range of motion is really improving - I had a lot of practice walking correctly at DL - ankle is still pretty swollen, but knee doesn't look bad, although it is still really black and blue. I am hoping that I can shortly start training walking again. I have been doing some light weight training and stationary bike riding.

Good Morning Team!

Always have such a hard time posting from work. Server issues maybe?

Had a great long weekend at the cottage. Beautiful weather & the leaves are just starting to change.

Saw a wolf on my long run. Made me a little nervous as we were both coming towards each other on the road.

Denise, Congrats on beautiful baby Josie. She is sooooo cute.

Connie, Trust me I have many days that I lack motivation.

Jen & Scott, Congrats on your great races.

Margie Congrats on all the mileage you are doing. :thumbsup2

Kim, Saw your other post about Goofy back to backs. Here is my 2 cents. I will be doing this. I think it's important to train the body on how to handle & recover from the many miles we will be doing both mentally & physically.
More of my 2 cents. I have done the full 2x going for my first Goofy. Both races I have always struggled after leaving AK before getting to
The Studios (miles 18-21). This is the hardest for me so I'm upping my training to a long run of 22 miles. This is just my personal issue. There have been many runners who only do as much as 15 miles in training who complete a marathon.

I'm sure Dave & Scott will have more to add from their previous Goofy
experience.

I've rambled on enough.....make it a great day everyone.......Sue

Hello....

Haven't posted in a while - sorry about that. We did the DLR 5K last Saturday, and Sarah and I did the half marathon on Sunday. My time was 3:28, and hers was 2:40. I had a hard time, and can definitely state that my "angels in green" (both virtual and in person) were what got me across that finish line.

I wish I could thank each of you in person, and hopefully I will have the chance soon..... You are amazing.

Good morning team.

I have a 12 hr shift today so today is a rest day. I'm trying to talk the GM into letting us go to 3 12s and a half day on sunday instead of a 5 day work week. I could get more LSD in that way.

I have been having issues with my achillies and yesterday for the first time in a couple of months I was able to do some hard accelerations without pain. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it's a sign of real improvement. I haven't been able to race well since it started.

Baby is good, he wakes to be fed every 4 hours at night and during the day he enjoys watching the mobile on the swing that Kimmer bought him.

Erica started putting some cereal in the milk so he would go longer between feedings, it worked he was waking every 3 hours.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Thanks to all for the pixie dust!

Sue - it seems that everyone has trouble with the marathon leaving AK! I hear that comment constantly!

I got the OK from PT yesterday to start walking again, as long as I took it slowly - so yesterday after PT I walked to the mailbox and back - .89 miles at a pace of 20.45! Today I will do the mailbox and back again, then tomorrow do the "loop" (1.25 miles). The knee did hurt yesterday, but it was after PT, and I rode the stationary bike at the gym for 20 min before going to PT. I need to get back in shape for the RFTT!

Good morning friends,

I have been having back issues. Darn it. But it is getting better now. I managed a 4 mile walk yesterday, but don't know if I will get out today. It is raining and muddy and I only have dirt roads to walk on. I will probably try to do TM later.

Jennifer - Good luck. You can beat these kids, just don't let up! Good job on the runs!

Scott and Lynn - Welcome back! Lynn you will see improvement by leaps and bounds now. I am betting on you for finishing RFTT!

Sue - I have also heard that the stretch after leaving AK is the hardest. Is it the course or the miles or just what it is? A wolf! Kewl! I saw a skunk...not so kewl.

Dave - Good luck with the achilles.

Terri - welcome back! teehee!

Kim - Quit worrying. You will be fine! I will, you will, we all will. Just follow the plan!

Good morning team! Got out and did my 11 and 5 miler runs this weekend! Really great weather! I tried a gel for the first time on my 11 miler which was quite messy! I think I ended up smearing a bunch of it over mouth because I thought I had emptied the pack but hadn't. I think I looked quite the site since I didn't have any tissue and my lips were blue from my Gatorade!

On a sadder note, I'm probably going to have to cancel my October trip. DF's grandma isn't doing too well. The doctor wasn't very specific with times - while she's not expected to pass within hours, it's definitely not going to be months. I wouldn't feel good about going.

Connie - The 11 miler was pretty good. The pace was so-so but I think I'm finally getting use to longer distances. I didn't feel tired at the end of the run, just the usual muscle pain.

Sue - Congrats to DH on his Ironman! That's incredible! The medal must be so cool :)

Terri - pixiedust: for your feet! Good luck with your half!

Hi all,

I did 15 minutes on the elliptical followed by 30 minutes of strength training.

I have a 10k coming up on Saturday, a distance I haven't run in almost a year. I'm worried that my focus on endurance may cost me some speed. I'll be quite honest, I desperately want to run a 45 minute and/or win/place overall. I feel like such a whiner but I'm itching for an overall placement at a local race, age group winner just isn't as satisfying when you're only off by a minute from winning overall.

Knee is coming along I guess - yesterday was not a good day - went to the gym to ride the bike - both knees hurt doing the bike, and I had it on less resistance than previously. Then I tried the eliptical, lasted less than 5 min, it was worse by far than the bike. The weight exercises went OK, but knee ached rest of the day. Todays walk was a little better, knee still aches, but my pace was back to 18:51, just a little slower than my previous best. Lynn...I can certainly relate to your knee problems. I know everyone says that the elliptical is easier on the knees, but not for me! And after I ride the bike, even with NO resistance, my legs feel like jelly. Give me walking/running anytime!

I've been having knee problems of my own lately. I went to my DD's last week, since 9/9 was her due date. I found myself carrying her 2 year old DD quite a bit, especially up and down the stairs to their family room to watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.:) Now, she's not a big girl by any means, maybe 20 pounds soaking wet, but that extra weight was enough to cause my knee to swell and bit and just be sore overall.

Of course, she didn't have the baby while I was there, but is in labor AS I TYPE! So, back I go this afternoon to meet my second grandchild. DH will be with me until Sunday, but if I stay after that, I know I'll be back to carrying Allison again, especially if DD ends up with a C-Section like last time. I'm really concerned because DH and I are going to WDW for the EE race next Saturday. I can't run well with a bum knee.

Pixie Dust and good thoughts will be appreciated!

Hellooooooooooo team!

:lmao: Fooled you! I am not Margie! But I am on her computer!!! I am writing this from the computer room upstairs in Margie's house! This is Connie! :rotfl:

It was a really long travel day, yesterday. I had left the house early for my 3 hour road trip to the airport. Thinking I would stop in at my DD's workplace for a few minutes to tell her bye. I got there and she wasn't there! She was in the ER with her oldest DD (11) she was having stomach pains. So, I went to the ER and sat with them for about 40 minutes. I was now running a tiny bit behind. I grabbed a quick lunch and waited to board my plane when it was annouced there would be an hour delay. When we landed it took a while to find Margie, Sara and Hagen, and then off to their house. another approximate 3 hour drive! I started my day at 5:00 am CST and ended it about 11:30 pm!

Dear Granddaughter needs more tests to determine what's the matter. So far, we have watched the boys and gone for about a 1 mile walk. But we will get in more exercise this weekend. We are enjoying a nice quiet day.

Mary - Lots and lots of PD! I hope that knee feels great soon! Can't wait to see pics of the new one!

Vickie - I hope you make your Disney trip. So sorry about Nathan's Gramma. I understand the thing with the gel. I have an Ultimate Direction gel flask. I don't get it on my that way.

Sue! You got your very own Ironman! Kewl! Thanks for the info on the marathon. Overpasses can be so much harder than hills! I think it's the slant, but don't quote me on that.

Dave Congrats to you and Erica for officially starting your training. It is official isn't it?

Lynn - Hang in there. There are always good days and bad days! You will lost more good ones as you go along. Lots of PD!

Scott - That work thing...it sure gets in the way of fun!

Thanks for all the PD. My back usually just terrible muscle tension and generally resolves itself in just 3 or 4 days, which was the case this time. It's when I push and push that it causes the extreme hip problem. I have learned my lesson about that!

That's it for me in the great state of MI!

See y'all- Connie PS I am teaching the natives how to speak Texan! :rotfl:

Hi Everyone

So much news on this thread, some good, some not and some just interesting. So nice to catch up with all of you.

Well Mark and I finally went out for 4 miles last night. We are trying to run a bit for a change. I am not a runner – never have been. Mark jogged the ½ with Miranda in 08 but I power walked it. Well Marks legs are still bad, but his lungs are great, my legs are great but my lungs can’t take the running and I have NEVER smoked – unlike him. Together the two of us make 1 good athlete.

I will be getting him to an ortho MD to have him evaluated. The massage isn’t working and he’s miserable with or without the exercise. My co-worker went to him and she’s done a couple of ½’s and continues to train. He was able to reassure her that her knee pain was minor, gave her some exercises and she was good to go. She wore a brace for a while but most of the therapy he gave her was enough. Let’s hope he can work some magic for Mark.

I will be taking 2 afternoon’s off to play with the princess and spend some time with Miranda. I hope to do a bit of walking with her and the bebe as she wants to get back into shape and start training for 2011. But the c-section does slow down the process.

Oh and for those of you on Facebook, who saw me eating that fried Oreo, I only ate ½ and none of the ice-cream. We never did take a picture of the lobster roll, scallops an crab Rangoon at the Seafood Festival now those were much better than the Oreo.

I think I’m up to date with my report, hope to post more but life does keep me hopping.

Hi team,

Just wanted to post an update. I went to see the chiro about my knee. He said good thing I came in as the quad is really tight. Said to stretch it regularly.

Now the big news...our second granddaughter is here![/IMG] No pics yet, but her name is Sarah and she weighed in at 8 lbs, 20.5 inches long. Mom and daughter are doing great. And I'm sure that big sister Allison is telling her all about going to meet Mickey! This is Allison in her back yard with her best "buddy."

Good Morning Team!

pixiedust: to all who are in need! The list seemed fairly long today.

Glad to hear the baby grandchildren are doing well!

I am planning on trying to double my milage today - 2 loops, but I decided to wait until after breakfast as it will not be really hot today. Had a good exercise session at the gym yesterday, biking was a bit slower with less resistance, but weights went OK.

Have a great day all!

Good morning team! Thanks for all the good thoughts about DF's grandma! She seems to be doing better this week! The doctor's diagnosis seems to have gone from palliative care for terminal cancer to possible gallstones! What a roller coaster! DF and I think it might have been the laxitives that were prescribed for her that wasn't letting her keep anything in. She's started eating again so she's got her energy back. In fact, she was able to kick the nurses out of her room. It made me smile (even though I know it's not that funny) because she's still got enough energy to be feisty!

I know I'm not a medical professional but I was a little bit disappointed with the doctor and nurses who were caring for her. There was an attitude that "Well at least she's lived a long life ..." and an acceptance she was a goner. I guess it was more of a feeling that they had given up on her, rather than questioning what else could be wrong. I dunno. Anyway DF said we should just go on our trip and if we need to come back, we'll do that.

Connie - That is a super long day!! pixiedust: for DG! I hope everything is okay. Have a blast at Margie's!

Sue - I have the LS out for the short morning runs already! Have fun on your 5 miler tonight!

Mary - Congratulations on your new granddaughter!

Denise - Yum - fried Oreos! I made those once :) The seafood festival sounds fun! Say hi to Miranda for us!

Lynn - Good luck with your miles today! I hope your knee is better today :) How did you like Toy Story Mania? I've been thinking of picking it up too.

Eva - How are you doing? :wave2:

I'm trying to recover from "something" this week - so the training has gone out the window. Darn it. But on the plus side, I think I'm better - so tomorrow I will try to get some miles in. Not as fast as Jennifer, but I'll give it my best shot!

Good Morning Team!

Sue - At the gym I am doing the exercises that I do in PT mostly, I do get one free session with a trainer with my membership, but I thought I would get the most out of that by waiting until I could do most anything, and then see a trainer.

Vicki - great to hear that grandmother is doing better! We really enjoyed Toy Story Mania!

Terri - sorry to hear that you were under the weather, but glad you are feeling better!

Connie - hope you are having a good time!

I did get in 2.5 miles yesterday, it was not too difficult, it was so nice out that later I took my bike out and did a few more laps around the block (not too challenging route) for another 5 miles! I then did the weight exercises at home instead of the gym. Knee still hurts more than it did, but it seems a little better each day. Today will be my last PT appt before Peru, so will see if he has any advise on how to keep up my exercise while on a tour of Peru!

Have a great day all!

Denise and Terri, Thanks! I run with a lot of former Div I and II guy runners so sometimes I feel like the slow one.

I met with a coach on Wednesday (can't remember if I mentioned that or not.). I was told that I have "potential". He wants me to shoot for a sub 3:30 in December in Memphis and than a sub 3:20 in March in DC and go from there. We'll see...

I did 7.75 miles in 1hr 4 minutes today. I have a 10k tomorrow. My goals for the 10k are: dream goal somewhere around a 45-46 minute and overall female win or place, realistic 47-48 minute and age group win, safety goal 49 minutes (new 10k PR).

I'll let you guys know how it goes. It's been almost exactly a year since I've raced this distance.

Hi everyone! The weather is starting to cool down here. I woke up this morning and it was 6C (43F). Since it was about 7AM (and Saturday), I decided to sleep in a little more until it was warmer out. My training plan called for a 12 mile run today. I couldn't decide whether I should run it or if I should be doing a shorter distance since my half is next week. I do wonder why the training plan called for a 12 miler the weekend before a race. Anyway I settled on running 8 miles instead. I did 10/1 intervals so I would go easy and somehow I ended up running the entire thing at pace (10:15 m/m). Oops. Not sure what happened since I definitely didn't feel like I was working hard. Must have been the cool weather :)

Jennifer - How was your 10K this morning?

Scott - Great 10K time! Safe travels :) Can't wait to hear all about it when you get back!

Lynn - Your french toast sounds yummy :) I still haven't made it out to the store for Toy Story Mania :( I think it might have to wait until I get back since my race is next week. As for exercising on your trip, can you take some stretching bands with you? They take up no room at all but I wouldn't know how they would affect your knee.

Kim - How's the no Pepsi going? Stay strong!

Connie/Margie - What kinds of trouble are you gals getting into :)

Terri - Hope you feel better soon!

I'm off to a family dinner! Will have to remember to eat sensibly - haha!! Have a great night everyone! :wave2:

So the down and dirty on the 10k

Time 47:14, but more importantly I ran relatively even splits (which is something my coach has me working on). 3rd female overall and 1st in my age group. I'm okay with third overall as the woman who won ran a 43:20 which I was no where close to even in my best goal. Second and I were with in about 50 feet of each other the whole race.

Long run tomorrow.

Best,
Jennifer

Good morning team.

Jennifer, great time for that 10K. I ran 47 once on a training run but my best race time was in the 48 range. The 47 was one of those running high days where everything just felt awesome. Funny how our best efforts often seem the easiest. I think there is a secret message there if one could just figure it out.

It's rained here for a week straight and it's raining now. Erica and I did a 4 miler in the mall yesterday in 56 min. That was great for her just starting back with her training. We have another 4 miles on tap for today.

I wanna go to Peru with Scott and Lynn.

Hi everyone!

Miranda and I went out Saturday night for almost 3 miles. That’s pretty good considering the baby is 2 weeks old. She is hungry to get back into shape and I’ll admit I’ve fluffed off in the past couple of months helping her. It was a nice night and we stuck to sidwalks with the baby carriage. The princess slept the whole way. Mark and I plan on some miles tonight since his paperwork stopped us last night – but I’m thankful I had paperwork to do!

Mark and I tried to run last week and now my lower back hurts so I think we’ll fire up the shuffle and crank the speed walking instead. It’ll kill his leg but he’s going for massage tomorrow night – she’ll set him straight.

Well back to work for me. My internet at home has been fussy so updates will be from work or iphone.

Take care all, safe travels for Scott & Lynn! I leave in 3.5 weeks for Houston!!

Good Morning;

Mark and I have been walking but not getting enough of a workout so I charged my shuffle and we went out for 4 power miles last night. Well 1 warm up and 3 fast. What a difference it made.

I normally don’t go out on Monday because I start early (7am)- but it will be one of those weeks where one of us has something to do at night so we’d better get some miles in when we can. I bought a dance DVD so I may do that tonight while he’s busy. I have bee at my house tomorrow so I have to spruce up the sewing room tonight. Again, I’ll be busy tomorrow night so he may go out alone. I won’t go out alone – it’s just too risky.

It’s 66 days till Disney so I need to get my legs in shape for all that walking and of course fitting in my shorts! Ahh

Have a good one!

Good Morning, TEAM!:wave2:

Will have to catch up with all your happenings later...the little guys should be arriving soon :goodvibes

Connie is going to do an official 'Report' on our time together sometime soon.

Connie & I had a great week. :hippie: no time for getting into trouble.
For our Goofy Training we did log 20.3 miles and one morning at the gym.

Saturday morning we had a really nice 4-mile walk at Celery Flats (Connie says it is missed named and should be called Celery Hills). The trail was busy as they were having The Peacock Strut Race.

Sunday we went to first service, walked 9-miles on the beautiful shaded Kal-Haven Trail, and had a picnic at the Trail Head before leaving for South Haven. Connie being from Texas wanted to see our beautiful Lake Michigan!

At South Haven we walked around for another 2-miles. Walked out on the pier, had a delightful stroll along the beach, and soaked our feet and legs in Lake Michigan. AaaaHhhhhhhhhhhh

DD is here...she fell this morning and her ankle is swelling. We might be making another trip to ER today :headache:

Good Afternoon, Team!

It has taken me awhile to get to chores caught up, Jon and I both took a brief vacation.

Had some great workouts at Margie's. She will tell you that Michigan and especially Celery Flats are flat. Don't believe it! It should be named Celery Hills! And on top of that, she's fast in them there hills! I have become a true flat lander over the years. I guess I will have to go back to Colorado and do training before I try to keep up with Margie on her "Flats"!

We went to the gym and we did Pilates at Margie's and we used her weight equipment in her house. We managed 20.4 miles for the week. it was some serious work and a lot of fun. We managed a trip to Lake Michigan which looks like an ocean, has the piers like an ocean, has fishermen on the docks, has huge ships floating around and even has sandy beaches, but it doesn't smell like an ocean and it doesn't have salt! Amazing!

Sara, Rodney and Hagen are delightful people. Hagen has officially nominated me as one of the family! A priviledge to be sure. Meema Connie, is happy to carry that distinction! :cloud9:

For this week, I got the bare minimum of training in. But I am on a roll!

Jennifer - the name of your future cat reminded me of a funny story from several years ago. We were camping on the south rim of the Grand Canyon. There were some students who had just come from the bottom and they were taking up the showers. I stood patiently in line and listened and watched as all the other girls were yelling at Hortensia to get them things. Keep in mind that Hortensia was a dark haired, dark eyed, olive complected young woman and the others calling for things were blondes. Not one of them said thank you to poor Hortensia who was running up and down the shower lines with more quarters (to get the water running again), more shampoo, extra towels, more body wash, extra conditioner, etc. Finally, I got a shower stall and I was still hearing these girls shouting at Hortensia to get them stuff (most of which was HER stuff they were "borrowing"). I finally got tired of the way they were treating her and I called out, "Hortensia, I am so glad you came with us, I don't know what we would have done without you!" All of sudden, there were thank yous and promises to pay Hortensia back. As I walked out of the shower, Hortensia smiled at me really big, but the blondes all didn't! :confused3 :rotfl:
Enjoy the kitty!

FluPanda - Get well soon.

Good Luck - Kim, Vicki, and Wilbur!! Can't wait to hear your reports!

Welcome back, Jack!

Have fun Lynn and Scott!!!

Thanks, Margie!

See ya! Connie

Good Monday Morning Team!!

We lucked out with the weather for yesterday's run. A little humid but no rain.:worship: Race started at 7:30 & driving to the race there were several times when the rain was coming down so hard you could barely see to drive.

Was doing so well up until the 25k mark. Took some gatorade from the water station that was mixed way to strong. Ended up with a wicked stomach ache & had to walk/ run for the next 10k. Finished with a 4:45.:sad2:

The race really puts the downtown core of Toronto into total grid lock. Just no way of getting around closing down major streets. During the 2nd half of the marathon course most major intersections are police controlled. When there is a break in the runners they will direct a car through the intersection but the traffic backlog is huge. This one driver got out of his car & was going crazy. 4 police were at the intersection I thought for sure he was going to get arrested. He was screaming, swearing. I was waiting for him to explode.:headache::headache: There is also alot of horn honking. I never know if it's for runners encouragement or because they're mad for having to wait.

Vicky, How was your day?

Kim, How did your son make out?

Dave, Hope your cold doesn't last long. Feel better soon.

Hope everyone's training is going well. Yoga tonight. I need a good stretch.....Sue

Hi everyone! The rainy morning it made for a pretty crummy commute into the city but better today than yesterday at the race.

About the race, let's see… I didn't end up getting downtown really late and I didn't get into line for the porta-potties until 7:20. That line moved pretty quick and I was in and out within minutes. However, there was a crush of people trying to get out to the corrals and by the time I made it out, the first three corals has already cleared out. My start time was something like 7:41AM :scared1: and all of the pace bunnies were long gone. I had hoped to run with one of the bunnies because I didn't trust my Garmin downtown - the accuracy is way off with the tall buildings and part of the race goes underneath bridges and such. And even though I'm Canadian, I don't really know how to convert kilometers to miles

I spent the first 3 miles of the race just passing people and trying to get into a less crowded space. I passed a whole bunch of pace bunnies - the 3:00 half marathon, 4:45 full marathon, 2:45 half marathon and the 2:30 half marathon but never did find that 2:15 bunny. I ran my 10/1 intervals for most of the race but had a hard time getting in enough air because of the humidity. And like Sue, I ran into a few of the aid stations with full flavour Gatorade - yuck!!

I struggled a bit with the last mile and the last stretch to the finish line - I'm not sure why. I had to force myself to keep running. I didn't have anything left for a final kick at the end. I'm not sure it would have mattered since there were a lot of people finishing at the same time and I would have had to dodge around people. Anyway, I ended up with a PB of 2:15:48 :cutie: I really wished I had a stronger finish but there will be other races.

Tonight I'm off to the gym for a light workout. No major aches or pains - except for sore shoulder but I think that's from sleeping in a strange position and not the race. I also have to start packing for Thursday...

Sue - Congrats on your marathon!! Sorry to hear about the Gatorade and stomach ache. I didn't encounter any irrate drivers but there were a lot of pedestrians who were confused about where to cross. I know it's difficult for the race organizers but I wish there was some way to let people cross Bay Street without having to go all the way up to Dundas or down to the Lakeshore.

Kim - Did you have a difficult time getting around the city to watch Kevin at different points in the race? I saw the traffic gridlock on the news last night.

Connie - Good luck with the dress alterations! Moms are always great with things like that. I'm going to PM you my mileage for September tonight. Don't think I'll have any time to run before I leave on Thursday.

Margie- pixiedust: for DD! I hope she makes a speedy recovery.

Dave - Hope you feel better soon! Glad to hear that Aiden is doing well!

Jennifer - I like your name choices :) Post pictures when you pick your little one out!

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hey Sue and Vicky great times!!!!!!!

What I thiought was funny I was rounding a corner near York and Queen St and said to Mike, I can't believe I won't see Vicky before the race. Even though we never pick a place to meet we always see each other before all the races we do. Well no sooner was it out of my mouth we rounded the corner and there was Vicky and Nathaniel.....time for quick hugs and she was off :)

DS did good considering he did not train. 5:49:19 it was also his first marathon. He had a bit of a side cramp but nothing horrible and so far today he is feeling great.

I got to see Kevin twice during the race...since the text alerts I signed up for didn't work...we had to guess on times, we saw him at 4K and at the 1/2 mark then just headed to the finish line to watch.

Hey Kim - I'm still amazed that anyone could do a full without training. Let's see him do that when he's 50!

I did 3.5 miles on Friday, another 3 on Saturday combined with leg weights. Wanted to do more, but we ended up spending Saturday at the vet with our cat - and that didn't go well, so Sunday we all rested in the morning....

Doctor today, back at it tomorrow!

Hi Team,

I've had a busy last two weeks. As I think I all ready posted, DD gave birth to her second DD on Sept. 15, and I went to her home in Indy to stay with her two year old and help out once DD came home from the hospital. I was there for 10 days, right up until the day that DH and I flew to WDW for the EEC. Yes, we were caught in that downpour! We have run in the rain before, but never when the streets were almost flooded in some places. I'm happy to say that we both finished, but I'm unsure of my time. I kept trying to hit the button on my indiglo watch to see the time, and on at least two occasions, managed to stop the watch. So, my best guess is that I finished the 5K in about 50 minutes.

Now that I'm home, I really don't know where to start. Did laundry yesterday. Must go to the grocery today as there is not much food in the house!

Hi everyone! :wave2: Not much of import to report today. I'm off for a haircut after work. Just a couple more sleeps before our trip!

Mary - Congrats on the race!

Kim - I thought the same thing too! What a coincidence!! That sucks that the email/tracking for Kevin didn't work. I hope Sportstats gives you a refund.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Good Morning, TEAM! :wave2:

Lots of rain and the chill is in the air, so I actually had to turn the furnace on for the little guys! :upsidedow

Congratulations, MaryJ on the new Grand daughter! :littleangel: And your race. :cheer2:

:hippie: hope you feeling better? pixiedust:

Vicky enjoy your vacation!

Jack, hope the desk is cleaned off- takes a lot of energy to go on vacation! :rolleyes1

Connie, did you get the gas line repair work completed?

BIL passed away - funeral was yesterday :sad1:

The Brooksie Way Half is coming up for me this Sunday. When checking the map discovered there is three sections of trails that is dirt /gravel. This is a first for me. I am hoping for no rain. I just want to finish, using it as training for the Goofy. I will be doing the Detroit Half in two weeks.

Hi everyone! I'm just waiting for the work day to end - lots to do but I'm excited about going on vacation!

Jennifer - Congrats on the new kitten!

Kim - He's doing the half. I think he's going to walk but I still have to get him to train. Sometimes it feels like dragging a load of bricks uphill.

Margie - Very chilly here too! I pulled out my heavy blanket last night. Good luck on your race this weekend! I'll keep my fingers crossed that the rain stays away. Sorry to hear about BIL

Good News/Bad News

Yesterday/Today was probably my worst day teaching ever. At the end of yesterday I was so tired/upset that I didn't even run. Then I got observed by my superintendent in my one moment off instructional time.

Anyway I came home went for an 11 mile 90 minute run and now I'm a new person. I also decided that I'm taking one of my personal days on Monday January 11 and going to go run the full (provided the quote comes back under $500 and the cap holds out until Oct. 15) and they can just take it. My kids will be fine with a sub for one day.

Sorry for the mini-rant.

Best,
Jennifer

Good for you! My DH and I have gone through some major issues in the past week with business problems - nothing I can go into but we have had numerous bank visits, calls to our credit card company, calls to a new accountant etc. What did we do last night to work things out, we went for a power walk. I guess in the end, it's what we do for US. You now need something to look forward to - to make each day bearable when things get you down. I'm glad you chose the exercise route and the marathon, rather than the less healthy route of drinks at the bar or something worse.

Great Job!

Good Morning Team!

We are back from Peru and trying to get back to normal! We had a great time hiking thru ruins - eating great food - meeting great people! Now, I have just a week to get my knee into shape for the RFTT! The trip did not help the knee, I am sure, I will see what miracles my Physical Therapist can come up with today. I did not go back and read all that happened while we were gone, so I hope everyone is doing OK!

Have a great day all!

:rose: Jenn they shouldn't judge you on your best day or your worst but All your days. We all have ups in downs in our careers ~ trust me after 30 years here, there are days I just want to say " &*%^# I'm goin' fishin" and retire. Hang in there, you're in a noble profession that has the potential to change and shape lives.

Rant anytime, thats what we're here for...... :lmao:

It's great to take a step back or power walk forward to get perspective. Especially with a spouse or significant other, makes you realize whats really important and you'll get through it together.

4.6 miles on the elliptical 40 min. some weight training then back up stairs to work. :coffee:

Lynn & Scott Welcome back, what an interesting life your two lead. I've been to some crazy places in my life, many not by choice, but you guys do this stuff voluntarily, it cracks me up!
Hope everyone is well.

Hi Everyone. Many things going on here but the family including Josie went out for 3 miles today. It was just a walk - nothing to write home about but it was a beautiful day here in NH. Even Nick joined us. Josie is now awake a bit more than last week and is looking at my big fat face. She likes my quilts and is not too sure about Mark and all that facial hair.

I will go to my profile and update my miles, hours and PM them to Connie.

Thanks for sticking with me.

Scott the facebook photos are awesome.
