My Hubby and I are busy getting ready to entertain family tonight for the 4th. So while I am making potato salad, and shucking corn my thoughts drift to Castaway Cay, and I ask my Hubby. If you could be anywhere for the 4th where would you pick? He happily said Castaway Cay.... I guess we are hooked. So where would you pick????

Hi Terri, I do love Disney, but I would love to spend 4th of July in New York. I spent many 4ths at a place called Fireman's Field in Valley Stream, Long Island. I love my home in Fl. but would like to go back to NY for a 4th celebration.
Don't know if you remember me, we had dinner together at Hilton Head. A Private Affair! Say hi to your hubby for us. Ave

As much as we love living in Canada, we really miss celebrating July 4th with family and friends, so anywhere in the US with a picnic basket and fireworks sound WONDERFUL to me!!!!

How about (in alphabetical order)...
<nl>
Atlanta (for the Peachtree Road Race... 50,000 runners doing the country's largest 10K, and then a Braves game with fireworks)

Boston (for the huge party along the Charles River and the outstanding fireworks)

Cape Cod (if you can stand the traffic to get out there)

Mackinac Island (always a pleasant place in the summer)

Martha's Vineyard (always a pleasant place in the summer)

Washington, D.C. (outstanding fireworks on the National Mall)</nl>
I'll tell you one place we'll never go for July 4th ever again... Walt Disney World!!! We did that last year and the crowds, heat, traffic, and humidity were unbearable. I much prefer sitting in the air conditioning reading the DIS Boards to that melt-down.

Anywhere but here in Arizona!!
It's too hot and most of our fireworks have been cancelled because of the fires. Sometimes in San Diego we would watch the fireworks from a boat on the bay. I think that sounds just about perfect right now-- although I would definately go for Castaway Cay!!
Dave, I have wonderful memories of living in Marietta when I was 8 (the Big Chicken included) and despite the humid Georgia summers, I'd take that too!!

Since I dislike heat, crowds and noise, I would pick a quiet place in the mountains of Colorado at about 7000 ft altitude and a good novel to read:D

Hmmmmmm...Castaway Cay or New York. For the 4th of July I'd have to pick New York. All the hoopla you could want or all the quietness if you are looking for that.
For any other day its Castaway Cay for me.
Happy INDEPENDENCE Day to all!!!!!!!!

Even though we are Canadian, this is the first year in about the last ten that we haven't gone to the US to celebrate the 4th with all of you. We usually go to Spokane but wherever we've gone, we have truly enjoyed the celebrations and the patriotism. We even have a US flag for our motorhome... Wishing you all a happy 4th and wishing we were there ...

Twinave,
OF COURSE I REMEMBER YOU!!!!!Especially when I hear the song "Ava maria" Thank you for sharing that wonderful story with me over dinner. Hilton Head is also a favorite spot for hubby and I. Hope you are doing good, so glad to see your name on the "DIS boards.
To all who have posted so far, I have really enjoyed reading about where you would be spending the 4th if you could. To our Canadian neighbors You made me more thankful to just spend my holiday here in America with family and friends. I hope you all have had a wonderful 4th, and May God continue to bless our country.

I think it would have to be Washington, DC......seeing the fireworks over the Washington Monument and the Reflecting Pond....doesn't get much better!~!
In a post-9/11 world I think things right her in Riverdale, Utah are just fine! Good company, good food, cold beverages and fireworks!
However, Dave's comment about Martha's Vineyard have my mind wandering east!!
Anywhere that I could be with DH-2-B and ALL of our kids would be the perfect spot for me!

Just where I spent it...On the Disney Wonder!
The sailaway party was inside because of lightning. There was a huge red white and blue ballon drop. Then at dinner they gave us a special souvenier DCL July 4th glass(plastic) and a champagne toast, while the servers marched around with flags to "Youre A Grand Old Flag". Very nice touch!

I would have to say Boston would win my vote. We were in Boston over the 4th for a business convention 3 years ago. There are all kinds of activities along the river, a concert in the evening and then unbelievable fireworks. The crowd is huge!
I would go again in a minute!

Perdido Bay,
I was actually in Perdido Key, FL for the 4th with my family from B'ham,Al. since we have a condo there. Is that where you're from? It's great but I would much rather be somewhere cooler for the 4th.
