Monday 27th July 2009

Packed up ready for the move to the Polynesian, called bell hop to take the luggage, they arrived a couple of minutes later, really prompt service. We spent the morning at Hollywood Studios, Glen and I made our way to Tower of Terror while John and Ash went to get fastpasses for Toy Story Mania.

We're on the front row on the left, I'm holding the camera up trying to video it so John can see what the ride is like(I think I was probably unsuccessful as I've not yet seen the result, he's probably deleted it!!!)

Met up to carry on looking around.

The plan today had been to go to DTD and eat lunch at T Rex but there was too much we still wanted to do in the parks so as we passed Sci Fi called in to see if they had any reservations, we were told we could eat at 11am,a bit early but we hadn't had any breakfast so we took it. We sat at a normal table, we had previously eaten here in one of the cars so were happy with the table.

The meal coincided with our fastpass times for Toy Story so I double checked with the CM who told us they will accept late arrivals for fastpasses but not early arrivals so we would be fine taking our time over our meal.

I don't wish to brag but I GOT THE HIGHEST SCORE on Toy Story:rotfl2: I think it was 55,000 the others got between 7,000 and 30,000. Decided to make our way to Poly now via the boat to Yacht Club, walk through Epcot to the monorail. We wanted to go and have a look at where we stayed last time as it was such a magical time for us.

On to the Poly, I'm just going to post a few photos of our arrival and our room and leave the rest to a separate thread, there's just too many of the resort!!!

My friend Jean had sent us another envelope with some goodies in including this wonderful confetti, hope you can make out the palm trees and luau letters.

After unpacking and a quick look around (including the arcade for Ashley) we made our way to MK via the monorail.

We got a fastpass for Splash Mountain for 10.25-11 (seemed odd times but 11pm was park close). Went on Haunted Mansion which was a walk on and then made our way over to the Wishes dessert buffet. Was just about at the end of the queue, we were let in about 8.55 but as the tables had been pre allocated we were OK, 2nd row back, there was a lovely little table card saying 'welcome Simpson Family' and little gold castle confetti. There was a mad dash for the food and drinks so joined the throng as Spectromagic was on its way and I wanted to be sitting back down when it went in front of the castle.

We were told it was standing room only near the railings, people started to make their way there about 9.30, which personally I found rather silly, we had a very good view seated where we were and I'm sure plenty of other people must have had a similar good view looking at the way the tables were placed. The whole idea of the party is to relax and not have to queue for a spot, anyway Tink flew right over us and she waved down at us, face on to the castle is obviously the best spot but this was a lovely way to spend an hour or so watching in a reasonably relaxed environment.

After the fireworks we went and had our ride on Splash Mountain and walked back through the park. Bed by midnight. Must just make a note about the Polynesian room safe, it was locked by PIN which I much preferred to the AK method of carrying a key around.

Way to go, Wendy for beating out those guys for top score at TSM! I hope you didn't let them forget for a long time that it was you who got the high score of the group.

There are Disney commercials on TV here that show a person opening up an envelope in various places where confetti and balloons pop out in celebration of the different events. Do you get those commercials there? That's what your confetti was for - to celebrate your arrival at a new and exciting place. Hope it was fun!

Oh it was very well organised, I'm glad the tables were set out as I'd got visions of being way, way back because we were last in the queue! As for the TV, I never get to chose what's on, we had American Gladiators and football all the time whenever the TV was on!

Ah Jean, they were a lovely surprise, we had an envelope at the HRH but it was from the holiday company we had booked with so when we were told we had one at AKL I initially assumed it was another one from them until I saw it! When we got to the Poly and they said we had another one John just looked at me and grinned!!!!! I was very careful opening the 2nd one just in case there was confetti in it as I'd made a right mess in our room at AKL. I haven't seen the commercials here but I don't watch a lot of TV, what with work and planning the next vacation I don't watch much. Thankyou for your thoughtfulness, we really appreciated it.

And I haven't mentioned the score, it may cause too many bruised egos!!!!

Thank you, it is a gorgeous place.

What a great day - the Poly looks fantastic and you got an amazing score for TSM!
I loved your pictures of the Wishes Dessert Party - I just discovered today that they have extended it till the end of October but, unfortunately, it's fully booked for the nights we could do in September. Oh well - there's always next year (if they make it permanent!).
Thanks for sharing your trip! :thumbsup2

Sounds like a great day. :)

The dessert buffet looks amazing, was it expensive? I guess it's a new thing. :)

Yes, its new this summer, cost us $17.99 each but they have now extended it to end of October and increased the cost to over $23 each.

I am not a pudding fan but your deatil about the dessert party makes this sound a possibility if it gets extended :)

The buffet looks like a great idea, very elegant too. I don't think I could spend $23 on cakes though as I am not a cake person. my DD on the other hand could eat enough cakes for both our costs which isn't good ether as she will complain she is sick during the night.:rotfl::rotfl:

We are due to stay in the Poly in December and it looks great. Do you have any tips for the stay? There are 3 of us, me, wife Donna and son John who will be 9. The Wishes dessert party looks good. Is that a prebooked event or normal for the Poly? We are not staying concierge so any advice on which block to try and get would be helpful.

Thanks for any advice.:thumbsup2:dance3:

Firstly the Wishes dessert party is at MK and is prebooked but only going upto the end of October at the moment, its nothing to do with the Poly.

We stayed in Aotearoa which was a perfect distance from Capt Cooks, if you are going to make use of the refillable mugs or getting food from there it would be a good idea to ask for a room reasonably close, some of the rooms we saw must have been a heck of a walk for that first drink of the morning! I didn't ask for anything on checking in just took what was given but it worked out well for us, if we went again that is one request I would make sure I put in. We had a 1st floor room, which worked well for us I don't think ground floor would have been half as nice. Have you looked at the Tikiman site, there is a great deal of information on there. Will see if I can find a link for you. http://www.tikimanpages.com/tiki/

Oh, arriving at the Poly is nice on the monorail but make sure you use the launch to MK its a beautiful ride. Have a wonderful trip, I'm so jealous of you going in December, neither DH or I can book that time of year for annual leave, its the first holiday we plan on doing on retirement - Christmas in Disney:banana::banana::banana:
