I really dislike fanny packs, but I don't know what else I would use to carry my stuff in the parks because I like the thrill rides and won't have anyone to hold my things. If anyone has any recommendations for a small bag that works well I would appreciate it.

I like to carry my room key, ID, money, camera, phone, sunscreen, medications, a small book, and a bottle of water with me. I'm also thinking about tucking my flip flops in if there is room so I can switch shoes for the water rides. Anything I am missing?

Thanks to all for the great community!:thumbsup2

What ever you do dont get a fanny pack! where those things ever in style? (at least for teens-20s)

Get a cute drawstring bag if you went to the toy story mania meet last year and still have that bag or a small backpack makesure you have a small makeup bag or pencil pouch or somthing for small itams like make up. :thumbsup2

I found the best back pack ever for $15.00 at Walmart! You can get it online or in their store. Eastsport Skater Backpack (product ID 11084175). I'd link to it, but I'm too new to post a link so the board prohibits me from doing so.

As far as IDs, credit cards, room key, etc, it's got a place to hold them on the side in a plastic slot like a wallet has and it can't be seen to others because its protected by a flap that holds the items Velcroed to the side of the bag. The items are held in the underside of the strap and just appear to be a pocket from the outside. It's amazing, and at fifteen bucks, you can't beat it! Lastly, it's got really nice padded straps and a thick pad on the back of the bag where the bag rests against your lumbar. It actually feels good to wear.

I just got back from a week at the world using a $15- Walmart back pack. It was an Outdoor Products model. I got it in the sporting goods section. The side web pouch was perfect for a water bottle. It held up well. They also have a fanny(waist) pack for like $9-. If you have a Walmart near by, it's worth a look.

I also used a small JanSport fanny pack that I have had for at least a decade. Perfect for my wallet, cell phone and the family's key to the world cards. Loose your wallet once due to poor pockets and you to will come to embrace the fanny pack. It's not a big giant pack. You can't even see it with a tee shirt hanging over it. I think it was spotted at the entry bag check twice in 8 days of coming and going at the parks. Embrace the fanny pack, you won't regret it.:thumbsup2

You really can wear a fanny pack that doesn't look like *that* fanny pack...I'll even call it a waist pack to make less fanny-ish! I have one from a mountain shop that I LOVE and doesn't look cheesy at all (really, it doesn't!)

If you prefer to wear a waist pack instead of a back pack, take a peek at some of these from REI....I LOVE my Mountainsmith bag, and Kelty and REI brands look nice, too!

I have a Mountainsmith too. I have used it in the parks but I bought it for hiking. This is the one I have but in a light blue. They don't have the light blue anymore.

This looks like the current version of what I have. It's a "waist pack". Fifth Avenue... sounds like it should be in the Jay Peterman Catalog right next to the Urban Sombrero.

After years of having to carry a ruck sack with all the things I need for my kids, I am thrilled to be able to revert back to using my bumbag next year.
Don't care what anyone else thinks they look like, they are ideal.

Ok I don't care what anyone says. I love my waist pack it is huge and camo color. In it I can put my point and shoot camera, video camera, sunglasses, Ipod, two large bottles of water, first aid kit, batteries for both cameras, advil, gum, 4 ponchos, park maps and touring plans, and other stuff all off my back so I stay cool and I can get at it all with one hand and not having to muck about with swinging it off my back and holding it with one hand and rummaging around with the other.

I am old enough to not really care if my fanny pack is not attractive or not really in style. I don't really care what anyone thinks.

That said, my fanny pack is an ideal size
for the stuff I want to carry. I would not want it to be a back pack, because I am digging for *something* very frequently.

I don't usually wear it around my waist, though. The strap goes on my left shoulder, and the bag itself is under my right breast. Some days, as long as there is nothing breakable in there, I use it on my waist, turned to the back, and it becomes "Lumbar support" while I am sitting down.

Of course, lumbar support is useless, if
Disney removes all the backs from the chairs in the counter service restaurants.

I have a Bagillini backpack and the Overland Donner bag (based on recommendations from the boards). I like them both. Right now I am using a Vera Bradley backpack (the smaller version- not full size). It's perfect for my needs... 3/4 diapers, wipes, wallet, camera, cell phone and sun glasses. Good luck. Let us know what you decide on. ~Elizabeth

Fanny, waist, bum - I love my small one. I wear it sort of on the side, on my hip.

I tried a backback, didn't like having to take it off to get things. Plus, it is too tempting to stuff it too much and then it gets in everbody's way!

I do like having my hands free!

I'm with you on this one. I want comfort not style. And I picked up a nice small WDW fanny pack at a flea market this summer for 1.00. It looks like new and it's perfect and won't destoy my shoulders this year. Of course now I need to figure out how we are carrying the picture mats I plan to use for autographs:) But isn't that what the ohter party members are for?

I do like having my hands free! I wish my Fanny, waist and bum were small. Mine's just flat and droopy. That's what happens when you lose nearly 100 pounds and you're 51 years old, and you're still not thin, AND you haven't a clue what the word squats really means. I'm just sure it has to do with something you shouldn't refer to in polite company! :rotfl:

Seriously though, I do like my lumbar pack, though it is on the big side. Somehow, though, I do manage to always have the junk to fill it :upsidedow. Mine of course is pink, but they don't seem to have it this year.

Love Love Love my "fanny pack"! So much easier than any other bags I've carried in the parks. I know it isn't the most fashionable but it does seem to be the most practical for me. Everything I need is right in front of me, I don't knock people with it when I turn around, I never have to take it off for rides or eating, it's in front of me so it's always in my sight (no "pick pockets") and my hands are always free to help DD's with whatever they need. Holds cellphones, cameras, spending money, debit card, KTTW, fast passes, ponchos, 1st aid supplies, lipstick/chapstick, chewing gum, snacks, a bottle of water, hmmm...think I just filled it up. Fast and easy for bag check at the security checkpoints also.

All I can say is thank heaven for cargo shorts!

I hate hate HATE taking a bag into the parks. I refuse to do it unless absolutely necessary (i.e. right now as I have an infant in diapers).

We don't bring anything in but our car keys, one cell phone, DH's wallet (or just a credit card) and the camera. That's it. We keep those items (except the camera) in his cargo shorts pockets.

(Of course right now I am forced to carry a diaper bag which I do under duress) :lmao: I did buy an Overland Donner on closeout for cheap (about $18) and it is a good compact bag for the price. Light, pockets for everything, comfy strap that fits across your body, expands enough to hold diapers, wipes and bottles/sippy. Also it is small enough to fit in the stroller basket of an umbrella stroller (Mac Quest to be specific) :thumbsup2

I'm not a huge fan of backpacks...but we did by a drawstring WDW bag last year and it was pretty nice. It was lined and it had a cell phone pocket and zipper pocket inside. If you don't have a lot to carry, its an ideal bag. I don't like having to take it on and off all the time though. We also have a WDW fanny pack but it isn't big enough for larger items. Ironically, I have to use it when we go to Busch Gardens, Williamsburg because they don't let you take any backpacks, purses, drawstring bags etc on any of the coasters. Really peeves me.
My favorite bag has been a shoulder/across the body canvas bag I got from AK Lodge several years ago. Its easily accessible, strudy and has lots of roomy compartments and organizer pockets. It can get overpacked though. My DH and I are going by ourselves this Fall and I'm thinking of downsizing since I won't be carrying everyone's stuff around.

I am also not a fanny pack person, I bought the following travelon bag #F03068 from QVC for $16.80, it was just enough to put money, credit cards, world keys, cell phone and sunglasses. They also have other styles available & they are affordable if you are looking for something to use just for the trip! Good luck on your purse/carrier endeavor!

We always carry a huge backpack because we bring our water bottles snacks, camera, sunscreen etc. We have never had a problem carrying it on all the rides. We can take it on everything from California Screamin' to Tower of Terror. Disney is easy that way. We had a hard time at the other theme parks when we found out that we couldn't take it on all the rides, nor could we leave it on the ground by the loading dock- we had to pay for a locker :( We wish we would have known that before we went.

I'm occasionally guilty of using a fanny pack when at the parks. On our first trip I started out using a standard backpack but within 2 days I had enough of having to dig through everything to get to what I needed so I switched to a fanny pack.

On our last trip I used a single strap backpack that goes across the chest which was alright but I found the strap rubbed my neck too much when it was full so I'm breaking the rules and bringing out my fanny pack for my trip next year.

I just like the convenience of not having to take it off to get anything and I also don't have to worry about setting it down somewhere and forgetting it. I guess I will just have to deal with the laughs I get.

I just wear cargo shorts or pants (depending on the time of year) and can easily carry everything I need in the parks. If I can't fit it in one of the pockets I don't take it with me. I often wonder what the heck people who don't have kids carry around that requires luggage. :confused3

Things that are bulky:
camera that is a little larger than a deck of cards
that darn poncho for the rainy day
water bottle - but have learned to skip that
mostly the extra layer for warmth for the December evening - I'd rather carry it than go back to the room and change. I suppose I could spring for a locker?

I have used the dreaded fanny pack in the past. I also have the Donner bag mentioned earlier in the thread - which I love on days when I find I have to carry just a little more (rain poncho as a good example). In general, we're of the "try not to carry anything at all" camp when it comes to the parks.

That said, I've recently purchased this bag (in black) from QVC that I'm anxious to try out on our trip next week. It's smaller than the Donner bag but just big enough for my camera and has interior slots for cards and park tickets. I used it on a trip to the state fair last week and it worked out great!

Hmm, I like the looks of this one. I've been through 3 Baggallinis, and had to return all of them because the stitching came undone within a week :sad2: - one of them I even received that way. I've tried baggallini's, backpacks, and every other carrier you can name. I always go back to my dorky fanny pack. It's ideal, my hands are free, I push it to my hip when I get on rides, it never comes off or gets lost. I don't care anymore how unfashionable I look, have you seen what other people wear to the parks? I don't worry about my fanny pack anymore!

I loved walking around with my old, beat-up backpack. It was perfect for carrying everything I needed, and I was surprised that I could take it on all the rides. For rides like the Rock n Roller Coaster, I simply put it at my feet and wrapped one of my legs through the strap.
