Okay, so who else is watching this season?

It's kind of too early for me to form any real opinions.

Other than I pretty much LOATHE Michael Isabella already. What a sexist tool!

I also have to say I think Ash (the gay guy) is kinda cute, and the brothers are kinda hot!

What's everyone else thinking after Episode one?

I like the brothers and Mattie the french guy.

I already can't STAND Michael Isabella either. You pegged him right as a total Tool. The gay guy I think is adorable. Quite a lot of talent on this years show it looks like.

My initial thoughts: Micheal Isabella is a j*rk, so hopefully he gets his just desserts; there are a lot of people that I can't understand (i.e. thick accents, mumbled speaking), Eve seems to be not very good, Puck was super funny as a judge, and I hope they have Ted Allen on this year--I love that guy.

I already like the little twists that they are going to throw in because they are in Vegas.

I do not like the brothers. I can't really pinpoint why, yet.

micheal is a tool..you pegged him. eve has got to go. it doesnt look like she knows what she is doing. the one brother, the older one, he seems okay but his younger brother doesnt impress me much.
i loved it when puck threw the doughnuts across the room...that in itself was pricless:lmao:. the other ones i liked was the jennifer, jesse and kevin.

Ther always has to be one to bug you, it makes the show more interesting!
So it would be Michaels turn. Other than that no real opinions yet.

Thank heavens for Tivo. I'm in, but haven't watched the last episode yet. I'm so far behind on my TV shows that it's getting to the point where I may have to cut a few shows out of my "season pass" list so I have a chance to catch up.

Or maybe I should just take a sick day to catch up....

So who watched last night?

I can't say I'm surprised to see Eve go home. I was surprised she stayed last week.

Very interesting to see Mike V. win the quick fire challenge, and Brian V. win the elimination challenge. And the top four dishes did inded look fantastic!

Michael Isabella does nothing to change my impression of him. His whole "I make up names for people" thing was beyond annoying". The fact that you can't be bothered to learn and remember a colleague's name speaks volume to how big of a tool he really is.

And Ashley. OMG! No one is a bigger marriage proponent than I am. (Hello! Big Fat Gay Disney Wedding!) But c'mon. I understand that it was a great place to make a point about marriage equality, but really. Did she have to take is SO personally that other people get to be happy? So brava to her for speaking up on the issue. But there are better ways to bring the issue up and not appear to be bitter and anti-straight people. I thought Preeti was much more realistic about it. And funny that Ash wasn't shown discussing it at all. He was to busy having been delegated the flowers because he was the gay guy. :rotfl:

What did everyone else think?

I think the V brothers should be melded into one guy.

I like Brian's look better, but Michael's personality.

What did everyone else think?

We watched. Our schedule and life revolves around our Bravo programming. :)

First off, glad that Eve went home. Never have seen someone so clueless and just all around bad chef in my life. How did she even make it onto the show?

Secondly, Michael I. proves to be more of a D-Bag every single show. I was happy to see them not like his dish at all. Can't wait for him to be booted off.

Thirdly, not sure why I'm numbering these. You hit the nail on the head about Ashley. Good for her for standing up and like you said, we're a big proponet for marriage equality, but come on. I was waiting for her to go off on the judges or something for separating them into men vs women first off (which she hated), and of course the whole elimination challenge being offensive to her. She wouldn't let it go. I like Preeti and her response to how Ashley was reacting.

Fourthly, because I started numbering and should continue, they aren't showing enough of the only Gay Boy on the show. Although I thought it was funny when one of the brothers told him he needed to take care of the flowers because he was gay.

It took you this entire time to figure that out? I added him to my top 5 list the first season. :)

Have you heard about his new restaurant he just opened in New York City? Tom Tuesday Diner (http://www.tomtuesdaydinner.com/home). He actually is cooking every meal. Only 32 seats in the restaurant. Menu changes monthly due to whatever is in season. Many items designed on the fly. And get this, it's only open every other Tuesday. Twice a month. $150-250 a person.

I am floored that you all can remember everyone's name already! I'm genuinely impressed! Pretty much agree with everything that's been said already except one thing. Brace yourself for controversy. I don't like Tom Colicoluccacaculo. Whatever the hell his name is. Never did. I could never put my finger on any single thing that made me dislike but then someone who knows someone (who knows someone who knows someone etc... lol) told me that he is not a very nice person at all.

I actually wished she would have pressed the issue more! This was her platform to use and she should have really went for it. I was hoping she stepped up and spoke about it at the judges table.

My GF loves him. She has had the opportunity to speak to him on several occasions (not just meet and greets) and she really like him. Okay, so I was surprised. After Ashley's rant last week about how offended she was by the wedding/bachelor & bachelorette party challenge; I was fully expecting her to go off on having to cook for military personnel when gays and lesbians aren't allowed to serve openly (which is just as important an issue!) and not a peep from her. I'm very glad that all the chefs were so respectful of our brave men and women in uniform, despite a few of them mentioning their thoughts on the war.

Now on to the actual competition: Can I just say how much I LOVED watching Michael Isabella squirm? I knew that Preeti was going to be the one going home and I'll get to that in a moment. But he was so ticked off that his teammate won and he was up for elimination. But the judges were right. They didn't tell them to form teams. That was HIS idea. And where's the teamwork in "he did his own dish, and I did mine"? :confused3

And Preeti and Laurine. Hello! Have they never seen this show before? Every time that someone makes a pasta salad in a large group catering challenge they end up on the chopping block because they made "just another pasta salad". I'm sorry. If you decided to make that dish on Top Chef, you're asking to go home. So as much as I wanted that tool Michael I. to go, there's no way I can disagree with their decision to cut Preeti who's been in the bottom group before, and made the dreaded pasta salad.

Most of the rest of the dishes looked really good, though. I'd have loved to eat off of that buffet!

Okay, so I've been so busy the last week or so, I haven't had a chance to post my thoughts on the last 2 eps. So here they are:

Last week. Eve-glas you're gone. 2 weeks in a row of messing up the seasoning will get you booted.

Mike I. HATE. Douche-tool. Vomit.

Ashley: In your restaurant business, do you refuse to serve married couples, or refuse to cater their wedding receptions? No? Then shut it. I agree with the principle, but not the execution. Bravo, who had a gay wedding in the first season, is not out to get you. Au contraire, the simple fact that they showed your ridiculous rant in the first place instead of throwing it on the editing room floor is more than you deserve. Because it's Bravo you got a pass for your behavior. On any other network, your antics would be termed "mugging for the camera" dearest. I much prefered Preeti's stance. This is not the 1st wedding challenge that's been done. You signed up for a reality show knowing full well what you were getting into. It's like the people who go on Survivor not knowing how to make fire.

Whew. On to this week.

Mike I. HATE. AGAIN.

Laurine/Preeti - Pasta salad does not win. Period. You'd think cheftestants would know that after all this time. Loving brother Bryan, not loving brother Michael. Brother Michael has much more of the Mike I douchiness about him.

My fav so far: Jen (I think she rocks) and I'm pulling for her.

MMMMMMMMMMMMM! Escargot!

Wow. Quickfire elimination, huh? I love the new twists they're throwing at the cheftastants this season. I feel bad for Jessie. I get the impression that she's a good chef, but not suited for reality television competition. I would have LOVED to have tried several of those escargot dishes, though.

I'm ready for Michael Isabella to do something where he's not paired with one of the Voltagio brothers. They're clearly carrying him. I could see either of them winning the Elimination Challenge thise week, and fully expect to see both brothers in the finale. They're really good.

I was surpised to see Hector go. Mattin and Ashley seemed to be getting the loser edit. And the fact that Mattin LIED about the asparagus idea to the judges really ticked me off. Kudos to Ashley for not throwing him under the bus. But he's a weasel and I'd have been glad to see him go.

turkygurl

Love the escargot challenge. REALLY loved the bacon jam. MMMM, bacon.

Moving on.

As soon as I saw Mike I. pull a sauce, I knew he was going to attach himself to one of the V brothers. I think the judges can see that he's done that in 2 back to back challenges, and then copped to not preparing the part of the dish that the judges liked. (See Tom C.'s blog for a little more about Bryan's fish dish and how complicated it was to make.) And was it just me, or did Mike V. and Jen seem to be making eyes at each other? Love her. :cloud9:

Moving on, again.

I think Ashley probably stayed because their error wasn't quite as bad as messing up a steak. This is the second time Hector has messed up BEEF. It's not frog legs, or rabbit, or anything hard. It's a cow. (And also because they probably don't want to get rid of ALL the women right in a row).

As far as Ron and the Frog Legs are concerned, during the shopping, Robin talks about how "Awesome" chickpea flour is, and how "Crunchy" the result is. She asks Ron about using it, but I can't tell if his answer was "No, I don't mind using it." (As in, "Sure, we can try it if you like it that much.") or "No, I don't want to use it." But if they used it, it might explain why it was so "over breaded."

I'm just waiting on Jen to eviscerate him. popcorn:: I absolutely cannot stand the guy. He just BLEEDS insecurity and overcompensation. I'll bet women THROW themselves at him because he's so awesome.:worship: NOT.

What I can't understand though, is that he seems to be at least somewhat capable (as seen in the QF challenges where he has to compete alone), which puts him at least a step or two ahead of Ashley, Robin, and Laurine who haven't done much so far that can be called "winning." As far as a F4, I'm seeing Kevin, The Brothers V, and Jen.

It's bull that you have to pay so much money to do something like that. Is that how much it would have cost me to add my husband? For your sake I hope it is the exact same amount!

My sister adopted two boys who were her foster children. The adoption was final in 2005. This year her partner completed the second parent adoption. In order to do this they had to go to another county - the only ONE in our state that would allow the same sex second parent adoptions to be done. On top of that they had to pay several thousand dollars to complete the second parent adoptions. But if I had kids before my husband & I got together and I wanted him to adopt them it would have only cost a few hundred. How is that fair? It isn't!!!

We should pay the same amount for the same freaking service! Sorry about my little rant but it still ticks me off that people do this and think it is okay.

If my GF had been my Husband then, no it would not have cost one dime. It really isnt the amount that bugs me, but the fact we have to do it and it still gives us little protection. She still has to pay the taxes on the entire estate if I die. So she could lose everything we have worked for ( although I am making sure that will not happen).

I had friends who adopted and had to do the exact thing! They had to move so they could get a judge to do it!

She still has to pay the taxes on the entire estate if I die. So she could lose everything we have worked for ( although I am making sure that will not happen).

I had friends who adopted and had to do the exact thing! They had to move so they could get a judge to do it!

I know it doesn't mean much from me as I'm not the one who made you go through it all, but I am sorry you had to do all of that. And I'm sorry you two don't have the same protection. One of these days we will see the same protection and rights for all of us!!!

Okay, Mike I.: Good for you, you knew how to prepare cactus so you won $15K. Now maybe you can pay for some eyebrows.

Good: Love the VoBros. And Kevin's looked fantastic as well. Bryan's was seriously making me hungry!

Bad:
Robin - yuck. The whole plate looked like a load of yuck.
Ron - Don't scare me like that again. No more alcohol. If you don't drink, then don't try to make a cocktail.
Mattin - Ceviche. Not just one, but three bad ones. They asked for high end, and that is not it. Gone.

Next to go (in no particular order) - Robin, Ashley, Ron, Eli, Laurine/Ash.

I still think the F4 will be V-squared, Kevin, and Jen (unless Jen completely implodes) with Mike I. and Laurine/Ash rounding out the top 6.

Wow. Looks like Bryan V. is the man to beat, huh? Five challenges in, and he's already won three of them! And as always, his brother is right up there in the top tier as well.

I really like the episodes where they throw adverse/unusual circumstances at the contestants. I think those are the episodes that really illuminate who's really good, and who isn't.

Okay, on to my Michael Isabella hatred for this week. If his "specialty" is Greek food, why in the hell did he mispronounce "gyros" as "JY-rows"? What an idiot. As for him winning the quick fire, I like Mike V's take on it. "I'd rather make food that tastes good than worry about getting the slime out of cactus" :lmao:

And can I just say that guest judge Tim Love is HOT!!! Woof! So many cowboy fantasies come to life in that man!

Bye Mattin. I loved the accent and he was just so adorkable cute. But the VoBros are my picks. I would love to see them battle it out at the end... greased up and naked but a cook off will do too.

Jennifer would fight you for the best seat I bet. She had to be right by one of the brothers again this week. Sorry by now I don't remember don't remember which one.

Ashley needs to pull it together. There is just something about her that I really like. I think she has some of the same spunk my sister had as a teenager. I really do want her to knock their socks off and do an awesome job.

Kevin is still my pick to win.

Okay, so we finally watched last week's Top Chef episode on DVR so that we'd be ready to watch this week's episode, and . . . there isn't one? :confused3

Anyway, the deconstruction challenge was very interesting. These are the kinds of challenges that definitely weed out the weaker chefs.

It was nice to see Kevin win with his mole negro after having a difficult time with it the week before.

Kevin, Jenn, and the Voltaggio brothers continue to outshine everyone else. They might as well send everyone else home and just let these four cook until it's time for the finale.

Of course, one of them could have a bad day and be gone tomorrow. That's the beauty of this competition, I guess.

And what's up with Michael "The Tool" Isabella not knowing what eggs florentine is? It's kind of basic. Of course, Ash and Ron weren't terribly clear on sheperds pie or paella, so I should probably cut Isabella some slack. But I won't, cuz I want him GONE!

Okay, so last night's challenge? Totally bogus!

I'm all for putting the cheftestants into adverse situations, but at least make sure the playing field is even. It's total BS that some chefs got to use the stove while others had to make do with woks and hot plates.

Ash and Michael Voltaggio got screwed because their electric skillet blew a fuse. How is that fair? A power outage as an obstacle to overcome is great, as long as ALL the chefs have to face the same obstacle.

And Michael Isabella SO needs to get over himself. The fact that he admitted that he gave Robin "make work" tasks and then planned to throw them away when she's the one familiar with the flavors and ingredients they had to use . . . . UGH! What a tool! He doesn't deserve to be there.

I just can't get into this show this season for some reason, and same goes for Project Runway, which is kind of sad considering these are really the only 2 shows I used to watch weekly.

The 2 brothers are starting to get on my nerves. Every few minutes it seems like one of the brothers is giving his point of view about how he's going to outdo the other one and why he is better than the other. I'm guessing one of them is going to be so focused on outdoing the other that it's going to wind up being the downfall that sends him home.

As far as last week's show goes, I have 2 points of view here:

-I was a bit disappointed that they sent Ashley home, and a bit shocked, to be honest. Okay, even though I think Ash is a cutie, I still think he should've been sent home since he made it quite obvious he was riding on the coat tails of the stronger chefs. ;) I think they sent Ashley home because when she gave her explanation of her mistakes she seemed tired and gave a lousy feedback. Had she said something like, "The gnocchi tasted fine, but it was his decision to add the additional salt without letting me know about it", she probably would've been alright.

-I think Kevin probably would've won again had Jennifer not been his partner in this challenge. Kevin seemed a bit more deserving, but I'm glad to see her finally win one. I think the judges felt the same way as far as giving it to her just so she could have won one. I think Jennifer and Kevin have the potential to be 2 of the final 3 chefs this season.

Okay.....I'm done.

Wow. Some sibling tension going on this week. Very interesting.

And of course, Kevin, Jenn and the Volt Bros are in the top four AGAIN!

Sad to see Ash go, but kind of inevitable, I mean, if the person who made "cat food" gets to stay, you've made a pretty big mistake.

Can't wait for Restaurant Wars next week! :yay:

Hello all,
Just found this thread and just saw Restaraunt wars. I won't spoil it until I'm sure that everyone's seen it But so far I agree about Michael I. A total Meanie Greenie Beanie. I actually like Robin's food choices. She chooses to make food i've actually heard of even if she irritates everyone else. no reason to be as mean to her as they all are.

Not sure why some people went before others. I truly believe that if all is right with the world Kevin will take it hands down. A good chef plus a humble attitude. He totally deserves it

I think Robin is lonely and that's why she seems to be talking so much. She probably isn't talking all that much, but they show it that way. Since everyone is ignoring her she has to get lonely. I know I would.

Well. You called it! That is indeed the final four.

Not that I'm surprised at all. They're definitely the top four this season.

It should be VERY interesting to see who gets eliminated next week.

I wanna see Kevin and Jennifer in the top 3.

I think Jennifer has what it takes, but she's gotten tired and has, as one of the judges said, "hit a brick wall". If she had the same attitude and energy she had at the beginning of the season she shouldn't have a problem.

I would like to see Kevin win. He's got the whole package: He's extremely knowledgeable about food and what he's making, he's consistently been in the top 3 throughout the entire season, and he's got a good personality.

As for the "Smugliota" brothers.......meh.....I honestly don't care.

I'd be happy to see Kevin or Bryan win.

I have to say, I'm happy that the Volt Bros made it to the final four, but I definitely prefer Bryan's style and attitude to Michael's.

Jenn . . . I don't know. Her performance seems way too uneven to me over the course of the season, while Kevin and the brothers maintained at a high level even toward the end. They were tired, too, I'm sure. But they didn't let it get to them.

Well, the final three are the Volt Bros and Kevin.

I think Jenn is a talented chef, but I think the short time frame works against her. I think with time to plan out a menu and the resources to execute her plan, she'd do MUCH better.

I'm hoping that either Bryan or Kevin win.

I pretty much knew Jennifer was going to get the boot. I felt bad, but I know statistically she was the weakest of the 4.

I know it's a common practice, but I tend to root for the ones who I think are nice, genuine people. That's one of the reasons I wanted Carla to win last season. I'm still pulling for Kevin, but I'm not sure if he'll be able to do it. If one of the brothers has to win I'd prefer the older of the two does. I just think the younger one is a.....well.....I won't use any of the nouns that come to mind here.

One of the reasons I get so invested and hurt when someone I like gets sent home in this show and Project RunGay is that they're really the only 2 reality shows that can majorly affect the contestants' lives and careers. Sure, winning a large sum of cash on one of the other shows can buy you a nicer home and a couple vacations, but these show can affect professional reputations, which, in my opinion, can lead to much bigger things.

(I apologize if there are any typos here. I have "Captain EO" blasting on my headphones. :rolleyes1)

Oh and btw, did you hear that Captain EO is coming back for a while to Epcot next year? Disneyland gets it back around February, not sure of the dates for Epcot, but it is 100% for sure now.

Same with DL. With the popularity of Michael's movie/album and this resurgence of anything 80's, they figured it was a good time. HISTA won't be missed at DL, so it will be nice to have EO in there for a while until they figure out what to put in there. NO one goes to see HISTA anymore.
