Hi all!

I have two children ages 8 and 10. Is it possible to upgrade the 8-year old to the adult plan? If so, do we also need to upgrade his pass to an adult one?

We visited WDW last May and were on the dining plan. Unfortunately, the kids meals did not cut it for our then 7 and 9 year old boys. I wish Disney would come up with another level for the plan. The appetites of a 3 year old and a 9 year old are vastly different.

Thanks!

Yes, you can upgrade the child to adult, and yes, you'll have to buy an adult park ticket. To upgrade him, you'll have to register him as being 10 years old.

I've also heard that he will be considered an adult from now on. No going back. I'm in the same boat with my 8 year old. The kids' menus are awful.

That's not necessarily true. He will still be in their system as a 10 year old but if you travel again, you can always correct the age when you call in. We upgraded my dd to an adult when she was 8 during free dining a couple of years ago and then went back without free dining and changed her age so that we wouldn't have to buy adult passes for her. The CM said that was perfectly ok and we didn't have any problems when we booked.

I have upgraded my DD9 the past 2 years and again this September. I have never had a problem. They can change the age in the computer. She has been 10 years old for the past 3 years!!! You do have to upgrade their ticket, but it's not much at all--well worth it!!!:)

We had to purchase one day tix to get pkg deal with free dining for 8 nights (we have AP) so it cost us all of $12 to upgrade our son to adult dining! Needless to say, thanks DisBoards (he is going to be so excited to be able to choose what he really wants)!

We upgraded our DD now 11 when she was 9 1/2 to an adult. Wasn't much at all. She hated the kids meals. Next year we will have the opposite. My youngest DS will be 10 and would hate adult menu. He's happy eating mac and cheese, pizza and chicken strips for 10 days.

If we upgraded our DS to an adult for the DDP and purchased the adult tickets, would we also have to buy the adult ticket for MVMCP? :confused3 Is MVMCP a different ticket just for the event?

MVMCP is a separate "hard ticket" so there won't be any requirement that you buy the kid an adult party ticket.

We did this for our upcoming free didnig trip for my 9 year old daughter. It cost us roughly $34 for 8 days. I suppose I could have priced out where she would want a kids meal and where she would want an adult meal, but decided to just do it and not have to worry about it. Honeslty the kids meals are dismall in most places, the adult meals will probably be too large, they need some type of "junior meal".
